Don't like this style of country particularly. Very samey. Much prefer Johnny Cash latter output. That being said, it's a unique album and interesting listen between songs.
Once In a Lifetime aside, I don't like this as much as I'd hoped. I think its the production as I love the sound on the live albums. Appreciate the originality for it's time.
I find this tedious. So formulaic and predictable. I don't like blues music much anyway. And the lyrics are so literal and on the nose. His voice is cool though which just gets it a 2. It's the kind of thing that might be fun to watch live if your drunk in a bar in Louisiana, but I would need to be drunk and that says a lot.
I liked this much more than I thought I would. I didn't take to Eminem back when this came out as too many neds were into it. It's a genuinely exciting and engrossing album. Lyrically sharp, well produced with a lot of variety with unexpected twists and turns, and some great hooks. Intentionally shocking and clearly designed to court controversy, it does at times become puerile. There are some songs which are genuinely uncomfortable listens too, which is obviously the intention. Still, holds a special place as I saw him live not long after this was released and to this day it's the only time I have seen the biggest music star in the world live.
It's fine. The old school style is cool and was probably a welcome break from all the gangster rap that was dominating hip hop at the time. There's some nice samples and songs which have a strong soul influence. For me though, although it's solid and good, it's also unremarkable without any clear stand out tracks.
I do appreciate the ambition and originality in this album. And the bangers really are top drawer. Don't love all the tracks when they go a bit too far into African music territory for my taste. But it's a great journey of a record. I really need to listen to more of Paul Simons work beyond this.
I like music that's a bit weird but this is absolutely beyond me. Occasionally it drifts into something that gets me interested but the vast majority is a slog to get through. I presume you need drugs to properly tap into whatever is going on.
Great album. One of the best from the 90s grunge big 4.
I really like this. Loads of influence on other bands I like. Didn't know that basement jaxx used M.E. as a sample for Where's Your Head At either. Highly innovative considering it was released in 79.
Boring. Occasionally bits pique my interest but it never seems to go anywhere other than slight variations of the same thing. Dance music like this is only worthwhile if there's a cool live show to go with it and you are on it. Otherwise it's just repetitive dullness when it's an album. Fine as background music I suppose but that's about it. Cool album cover though.
Bloody awful. These guys are good musicians but Christ this was hard work to get to the end. Jam after jam after jam for over an hour. I never liked ginger baker and this has made me like him even less.
Classic. Still sounds amazing and not surprised that it is so highly regarded then and now.
Brilliant album. So much variety from song to song but seems to retain a signature sound throughout. 2nd half stronger than the first and there are a few tracks that could maybe be shaved since it's over an hour but this is minor and does not detract. Great memories listening to this.
I thought I would like this but it doesn't click with me. I can hear the influence it's had on other bands that I do like. But I hate this style of production. Drums and guitar tone I don't like. Don't like the vocal style either. From what I hear this was a bit of a departure from their usual sound so I would be intrigued to listen to more from them.
I liked this a lot more than I expected to. Never liked Alright back when it came out and dismissed the album as I thought it would all sound like that. There's lots of energy here though and a bit of edge to some of the songs. Really well crafted. A bit twee at points but overall really enjoyable and I feel like I may have done them a disservice all these years.
When it's good, it's really good. First five songs are great, but the album becomes a bit messy with noisy chaos instead of the songs and hooks that make it good to start with.
It's fine. There are a few nice songs and I like the vocal style. But nothing that really stands out that would make me a fan.
I was intrigued to listen to this again as a 41 year old instead of as a 14 year old. First four songs are great, then it has a big drop off and contains some truly dreadful stuff. Loved Korn as a teenager but I'm not going to listen to this again. Except the bangers of course.
Obvious 5/5. Classic album. As are all the first 5 Sabbath records.
This is really good. Love his voice. Like a mix up of John Grant, Radiohead and at times Tom Waits. Such a diverse record too.
It's ok. There are other stones albums I would far rather listen to though.
It's brilliant. Contains some of my favourite Neil Young tracks. Great feel and dynamics throughout.
I didn't like this as much as I thought I would. Just didn't jump out at me with any memorable tracks. It's not bad at all. Just not to my taste.
This type of music isn't really made for me. But there's no doubting the talent here. I much prefer her songs when things are a bit more stripped back without so many layers. The duet at the end was a highlight.
There's songs which are amazing, some I don't like and some which are bizarre. It's a winner overall for me even if it polarises.
Brilliant album. I can see me revisiting this a lot. So much going on and had me hooked from start to finish.
It's decent enough. I've always been a passive fan of the manics and revisiting this album hasn't changed that. For me, they are one of those bands that have a solid greatest hits set, and that's as far as it goes for me.
A couple of half decent songs but ultimately I find this band tedious. There are some interesting stories and messages contained in the lyrics but unfortunately they are delivered by an absolute tadger.
Its not really my thing but I don't dislike it either. She's got a great voice and the album is very pleasant and soothing.
Not for me at all obviously. It's the kind of music that is pleasant enough in the background if you're dining in la vigna.
It's really good. Love the groove on so many tracks and there's so many hooks. Not really my genre but when it's done this well it's hard to find fault.
A bit too twee for me. It's well crafted and occasionally does pique my interest when it hits a nice melody, but this style is just not my cup of English tea.
When is great, it's really great. There's some classic songs on here that have stood the test of time. The fuzzed out jams are a bit much to have on record and I don't love Nico's vocals. But I think this would have been amazing to see and hear back in the day.
Utterly awful album. The best songs are the ones which are mercifully just unoriginal and boring. How on earth this is considered to be an album that must be heard before dying will remain a mystery to all who have to retrospectively endure it as part of this challenge. If only someone had actually killed The Zutons before they had a chance to create this.
I like The Cure and this album is fine but I much prefer the dreamier, brighter sound they did later than the bleak gothy stuff in here.
I liked this. I think music like this is so much more interesting live than in the studio. His voice is amazing and the musicianship is top notch. And the drumming is brilliant. This is the type of blues I want to hear. The fact that it's live and the band and vocals are so flawless is highly impressive. Sounds great for a 1965 recording too.
Can't really go wrong with Creedence. They have their sound and style and they do it very well. Always warms the heart.
Well crafted, catchy synth pop. Not something I would personally listen to again but I can see why it's so popular.
It's got a cool vibe and sound but songs are too long and it gets a bit samey after a while. Sounds like they were written for inclusion on 80s buddy cop films or something. No bad thing I suppose. Renegades of Funk is a banger.
I really like this. I've listened to this album before years ago and it still stands up. It feels genuine and I found it interesting to lock into the lyrics and get a feel for the world that he lived in.
Really good album. I've always liked this band. It's not as good as 1965 though.
It's brilliant. Never actually listened to them other than knowing the big hits. These songs stand the test of time and you can hear how much they have influenced those who have followed.
One of my favorite ever albums. An absolute masterpiece from start to finish.
A brilliant, beautiful record. One of the all time great songwriters at the top of his game.
Awful. 2 decent songs doesn't save this chucked together bunch of demos and half finished ideas. I don't understand why it's on this list.
Interesting concept but musically not for me at all.
I've never heard of this before. However, I feel like I've heard it in countless hotels and restaurants as background music.
Its varied and interesting at points but absolutely not to my taste. Paper planes was quite decent.
Really good. So much energy and so many ear worms. Track 3 is a bit unnecessarily long but other than that its a really strong record.
There's bits of this I really like. And bits that are just meh. I never really liked the big single from this album when it came out so never checked them out further. It's got some nice enough tracks on it though.
This guy clearly is talented and the music is not unpleasant. But there's nothing to appeal to me here to make me bother listening again. It's probably kind of hard to get into this unless you understand Portuguese.
Some lovely folk songs. Some stuff that reminds me of a shite Scottish ceilidh. So a very mixed bag.
