I like the storytelling on here, and the atmosphere that the band and Nick Cave creates. I am not sure if I think this is as good as, or better than, for example Let Love In, Abattoir Blues or The Boatman’s Call which are the other albums that I know from Nick Cave and band

A fun listen - I like the style. I could have lived without the cover of Under the Boardwalk, but there are so many other bangers on here
I bought this as a digital copy back when the band offered it for “free”. I never really listened to it though. But I have listened later on in life - and it’s pretty good actually. Easier to get into than Kid A.
Incredicle
This is really good - I totally forgot about how good it is, and definitely almost on par with Different Class. There is a touch of Bowie in the songs, which I really like

Positive. Great voice. Great mood - many track would be good for an after party or early morning
Loooong - but still beautiful. Some great tracks throughout. But it can be difficult to stay focused for the entire album.
Pretty solid - full of easy, listenable dadrock tunes
Certainly a good album, but I am not as overwhelmed by this as some of his other albums. Stand out tracks are no. 4,6 and 9. The other songs are generally too slow for my taste
Perfect
Pretty good - reminds me a bit of Rush (or... it's the other way around)
You could argue that this album can cure a bloated stomach, a headache or back pain… but apparantly not if your spouse is older than 35 yrs. Thus only 4/5
You can’t deny the quality here, but it’s not my cup of tea
So many fantastic songs. Prince was such an amazing artist
Yeah… no… this is not for me. It’s not that they are bad at what they do, but to me, this is very uninteresting.
Very nice album - Quiet and beautiful
Amazing - I was immediately impressed and intrigued by this.
Fairly good. It seems more fun and joyous than some of the other British punk bands from that era
The good songs are GOOD, but there are definitely also some fillers on here
This is fairly good. There are, however, a few forgettable songs on here also.
Country is generally not my jam. Neither is this album, but some of the tracks are actually nice to listen to, if I’m on my daily walk in the nearby rural area. Emmylou Harris is amazing on the songs
Hmm… props to his voice, the produktion and all the collaborations. But it’s not at all my favourite style of music.
Party till the break of dawn. Fun album, but there are better albums to come from BB. I can’t wait
This is a wonderful album full of amazing songs
I appreciate the fact that this is an important release in music history, but I am not too fond of the genre
I love this album - a real classic! Not their best album though.
This was a real fun listen. You can hear they all have a really good time. Sam Cooke’s voice is great and legendary
Barrgh… this is too repetitive for my taste
I fahking love it
First time listen. I was afraid of certain types of dad rock, like for example Steely Dan, when I was younger, so I never got to sit down and listen to this. But this is really, really good - I am happy I listened to it, and I am going to return to this again!
Good times… that song is just too damn long, and for me, it’s the best song on the album. Of all the songs on the album, I prefer the most upbeat ones. But generally, I really do not like this type of disco. I wanted to skip so many songs, but fought through the pain. I lile the bass lines and guitar work though.
Too repetitive - and I don’t live through chemistry. I need some more lyrics to reel me in. When the guitar or the piano jumps in, I enjoy the songs on here a little more. But I could never put this record on again
Great surprise - It’s something else than it’s cover art… although in itself that is a great cover. The music is groovy, fun, well played and just a great soundtrack for so many occasions!
This is a strange mixture of everything. I was positively surprised after the first half of the album, but when A Gospel hit, I was not impressed with that and the rest of the album - in general, the album is just too many genres to cope with at once.
It’s pretty good - It’s not something that I would put on again, as I am not into this genre, but it does make me feel good though.
I love and laugh at Morrissey’s lyrics and self pity. But I miss Johnny Marr’s jangling guitar and melodies on this one. Morrissey solo is just not on par with The Smiths, which to me is perfection
Stone cold classic - This was a huge part of my teenage life growing up! I could listen to this album on repeat. So many great songs.
This is not for me. It does not invade my heart.
It’s fine. I actually like blues, but this gets repetitive at some point. The three last songs are the most interesting because he is on his own Props to Bonnie Raitt. Her voice is amazing
This is a great album full of wonderful little songs. Plus, it has one of the best songs ever on here: Father and Son
There are so many good songs on here, and I had actually forgotten many of them for many years until I re-listened today. It gets a little repetitive for my taste, but definitely not as much as Fatboy Slim. The last handful of tracks are real nice surprises
This is sort of okay - I would like to know why this belongs in the book before many other 2018 releases.
This is really good - I totally forgot about how good it is, and definitely almost on par with Different Class. There is a touch of Bowie in the songs, which I really like
I was positivest surprised. I had never heard this album, but it is damn good!
There are some real classic hits on here - but it’s front loaded, and I get a little bored towards the end of the album
If you like Van Morrison, it’s hard not to like this album. I enjoyed it
Pretty cool - and I understand it’s cultural and musical importance. I am more of a post punk guy though
I wanna visit dusty old bars and drink beer. This album is cool as fuck 1970 was an insane year in music.
Hmm - starts out as one thing, and ends up sounding totally different. It’s okay but nothing more - and definitely not as interesting as other 80’s pop bands from Britain
I like the hits - and a few other songs on here, like The Beast. But generally I’m not into hip hop. I think they should have left out all the skits between the songs. It adds nothing positive, and it works much better on Queens of the Stone Age’s Songs for the Deaf, where it’s supposed to be from a radio
Amazing album
Hmm… I don’t know about this. It’s not really my jam
It’s “okay” for me. But it’s kind of like a watered down version of music that I enjoy much more. I don’t agree that this is something I need to hear before I die
I am thoroughly and positively suprised. I knew some of Willie’s hits, but I’ve never listened to any of his albums besides Stardust. I really liked this one - I totally understand why Willie Nelson is such a respected artist and legend. This is an album that I will put on again.
I not all that into this kind of music. I enjoyed some of Daler Mehndi’s crazy songs back in the late 90’s, but I’m not young and drunk all the time anymore, so I never put on music from India
Makes me want to sit on a porch and drink beer in my rocking chair.
I love Portishead’s Dummy and selftitled album from 1997 - I never really got into this at the time of its release. It’s good, but not totally on par with the two mentioned albums.
This is just an amazing album, and Elliott Smith was such a talented artist
I’ve never really listened to PJ Harvey… which, based on this album, is a real shame. I’m happy to have listened to this
This is a really great album - I enjoy this very much, and this album is my favourite from Arcade Fire
I listened to the hits all the time back in the day. When I listened today, it was fun to hear the rest of the songs, which I never really listened to back then. As always, I think it gets a little repetitive
If you don’t love this album, you have a heart of stone. It is such a great classic
It’s like The Beatles but bad…
It’s okay - definitely not as good as the ones I really like by New Order. I think this record needs a little more punch and bite. I guess I’m more of a Joy Division/early New Order kind of guy
Pretty good - not my favourite Blur album. But there is a handful of good songs that I really enjoy. They are more experimental here than earlier
This took me by surprise. The mix between cultural genres is pretty good. I had never heard of the artist before, so it is nice to be exposed to new music when it is this positive
It was quite enjoyable - I had never heard much from Peter Gabriel outside his biggest hits. He’s very playful and takes us around the world
Wow - so many hits. Eminem was everywhere in the early 2000s - and it is understandable. Both the hits and the rest of the songs on here are so catchy - I really like his rapping/rhyming style, and the production is just amazing, but the skits in between are a little too much. I could live without his singing in Marshall Marhers, and I din’t really like Drug Ballad and Kim. Time has not been kind to many of his lyrics on this record. It was a different time”.
I just really like CCR - both Fogerty’s voice and the atmosphere that the music brings. There are some fillers on here, but most of the songs are great
Amazing album. Post punk is one of my favourite genres, and you can hear on this album, that this is where we’re headed. I really enjoyed listening to this. For some reason I had only heard The Light Pours Out of Me before, but the rest of the album is just as great. The music reminds me of Television.
One of my favourite The Cure albums. This is just beautiful
From track two to finish, this is just great! I love listening to this in the morning
Not for me - but it doesn’t hurt me either. Sweet Like a Champion is actually a good song. It’s unfortunate that many of the newer albums in this book are by bands/artists that few have even heard of - they failed to make a real impact over the years, so I guess we could live without listening to these (obscure) artists.
It’s good. But I think there are too many of the sugary sweet songs on here - I need more of the real funky shit
This is so fantastic - from start to finish. One of my favourite Dylan albums, although I have a good handful of massive favourites of his.
I think this might be my favourite album of the ones I’ve been introduced to in this process of listening to all 1001 albums. I don’t think I have heard any Pavement songs in my life before this, but it’s amazing. I really enjoy this style of music. I can hear both Pixies and Arcade Fire in this. So it’s kind of a middle thing between the two bands, which is just perfect.
It’s great to hear this concert and experience how real blues sounds like.
A very nice and smooth listen - the album fits with a quiet evening
This must be my favourite of Wonder’s albums - there are so many great songs on here and it doesn’t feel like a double album
Love the songs - and the cover picture 😃
I just don’t like this kind of music with its repetitiveness
Pretty cool - I’m definitely going to listen to this again. I’m a fan of the minimalism
This is my favourite Stones album - although their run of albums from the late 60’s to early 70’s all make good candidates. There are some songs on here that remind me a little of Guns N Roses on their Use Your Illusion I - I know, controversial
A classic that I’ve listened to many times as a young boy. All songs are pretty good, but there are better Springsteen albums out there. However, this is a very important album in music history
I have to give this a 2/5. I kind of like to listen to it for short periode of time, but it’s too long, and I have to choose the correct situation to enjoy it in.
My favourite Doors album - at least most of the time. You can hear Jim Morrison’s demise, but at the same time, the songs on here are just awesome. L.A. Woman is probably my favourite Doors song
It’s pretty good. It’s The Talking Heads’, Simple Minds’s and New Order’s little brother aspiring to achieve the same quality, but not quite there yet. Do I also hear some Bowie hiding?
It’s okay. I can hear where Duran Duran got their inspiration - but I think this album lacks an edge
It’s difficult to know how the reception of this album would have been if he hadn’t died just after the release. I think that there are some good songs on here, but overall it’s too messy for me to really enjoy. The songs that stand out are Lazarus, Dollar Days and I Can’t Give Everything Away
There are a handful of great, classic songs on here. It’s hard to follow up Thriller, though. But that’s not this album’s fault.
Meh - waste of my time. I could have easily lived without this. And it’s not like I can hear newer music out there that’s been inspired by specifically this album rather than other albums from either before or the same time as this. Could it be that Dy-Na-Mi-Tee was a single. I think I heard it before. It’s okay
It’s better than I thought it would be, but I thought it would be terrible. It is within the range of rap/hip hop that I like, but I like it when the artist rhymes at a real high level - Ice-T could be better
Wonderful album from start to finish. One of the best bands from post 2000, and one of my three favourite Arcade Fire albums
Production wise this sounds great, but the music has me on the verge of boredom.
It’s okay, but nothing more. I understand that it is interesting to see what McCartney was up to after The Beatles. He could have done better - his solo stuff is better IMO. The last song on this album is the best
This is great - very catchy and fun
It’s fine - but not something I would put on again.
There are a couple of good songs on here. I really like the Stones cover and Freedom. Some of the other ones are also good, but generally this is just not something I would choose to listen to. I get the feeling that George Michael’s style is so different from anything else
This is just weird… no thank you to most of it. - maybe it was very special back then, and that’s why it is historically important. The guitar playing om The Sage is nice though
I really like this. I never heard much of Willie Nelson’s but I have listened to this from time to time over the years. He really knows how to do covers of songs
Pretty good. I will definitely listen to this again in the future. It’s very 1967, but that’s fine by me.
This is weird - but still kind of funny. I can’t decide if he’s just joking, or if he’s serious though. I reminds me of Ross from Friends playing on his keyboard
Musically, this is good. But the language barrier brings it down for me
There are a couple of good songs on here. Jaco Pastorius really shines. But in general, it’s all just too much
Well… this is basically just a mixture of sounds made by a man who never credited the people he stole from. It sounds good but it’s just all over the place
Beautiful work of art. Is it soft post punk? I really like it from start to finish.
Lovely tapestry for a sunday morning. Buuuut there are passages in each track that are a little too uninteresting, though
It’s okay - but I didn’t think that there were real standout tracks. Perhaps My October Symphony is one of those. To me, there are better PSB albums out there
This is great - you really get the feeling that you’re there experiencing the show - Johnny Cash was so good at connecting with the crowd
It was almost over before it even started. Wow - James Brown and his musicians were just on fire. Very enjoyable
Wow - this is the first time I’ve listened to this. I had to listen to it again straight away. It’s just amazing - I never knew I loved The Black Keys.
It’s okay - but I've heard music in the same genre, that - to me - is more catchy. But I am intrigued and would like to delve more into this bands discography
This is not very good. It it, however, very, very weird
This is such a great album and, naturally, the one that got me into listening to Neil Young.
It’s quite alright. It’s kind of the same as much of what also was around at that time - I just not as good - but maybe a few more listens will do the trick
Not really my jam…
This is just wonderful - a breeze to listen to
Boring and tiresome for the most part. Sometimes the pace picks up, but it’s just weird for my ears. I’ve never heard of the band so they must not have left
I really like this. I know how important Eno is, and it’s easy to understand why - not only based on this album. But there is so much on here, that I can hear has inspired other musicians
If I had listened to this for the first time today, I might not have liked it as much as I do. I’ve listened to this many times earlier in my life, so it’s an important album to me, but I understand that it might be a little too much/strange/all over the place
I really like this - there’s a good mix between different types of songs, and Jack White’s voice and guitar playing is just awesome. I miss Meg White’s drumming, but love the variety in songs because Jack White is calling the shots.
I did not enjoy this at all…
I can see why this is relevant and important in music history, and there are definitely also some good songs on here, but I did not enjoy it as much as other post punk/pre grunge albums.
It’s quite good - I’m sorry to say that I find this mix between reggae and new wave more interesting than most original reggae I’ve heard in the past.
Well… I’ve listened to this countless times back when it was released - and I do still like the hits, and songs like “One of God’s Better People” but the album takes forever to really get going. And it’s really dated. You can hear that it’s a pop record from 1997.
It’s okay. It’s a good mix between The Beatles, Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones and other big names from back then. It’s never as good as those other bands - The Kinks are just more “middle of the road”. Best tracks: House in the Country, Sunny Afternoon and I’ll Remember. So it’s better towards the end.
Tapestry for my youth. I still enjoy it whenever I put it on as a 44 year old
This is a great album. There are no bad songs, and I like this type of punk. It’s not too dirty or fast paced
Musically it’s pretty good. But most of the lyrics seem to be written by a horny teenager… it’s dumb. And there’s just something a little off about the entire album, I feel. Nighthawkin’? That did not age well, did it?
This was hard for me to listen to.
Good ol’ OG blues
This book might be a little too stuffed with albums and bands like this. This album is, however, pretty good. But I might have some folky, psychedelic, jazzy music fatigue. The album is only 34 minutes long, but somehow it feels longer? 3/5
This is just a wonderful record - It doesn’t really feel outdated, and if I didn’t know, I would have never guessed 1989. (Well, maybe apart from the lyrics on for example Deeper Understanding) The more I listen to it, the better it gets… and it doesn’t hurt that David Gilmour makes a guest appearance
This is just terrible and to the brink of annoying to listen to. Not my jam
Yet another post 2000 record from this book, that I just do not like. What’s wrong with me? …or the editors of the book?
It’s okay. Not something I needed to hear before I died. It’s way too long
This is pretty great - one of my favourite Roxy Music albums
This is great album from start to finish. Not my favourite by Bowie. I’m more into his Stardust period. But still… this is just great
I need to listen to The Hives a little more. It’s fun and catchy. I just don’t understand why the book adds this compilation instead of one or two of their studio albums
It’s okay - to me it’s just on par with Greetings from L.A. although I enjoyed that one more musically (not lyrically) But I’m generally not a fan of Tim Buckley I’m not sure I am going to listen to this many more times in my life.
Too much of the same thing. It gets boring very quickly. And oh my God! why does the album have to be so long?
This is a classic. I love the catchy melodies and beats. But most of all I love Snoop’s style… but not so much the lyrics - they are, as many hip hop lyrics from back then, very outdated. But late 80’s early 90’s hip hop is just amazing
Very good classic, but it’s too long. Hip hop and rap are not my favourite genres, so I get tired of it after a while - It’s an important album with an important message. Politically charged rap and hip hop will always be better than gangsta rap to me.
This is not nearly as good as their debut. The style here is too weird and not that catchy compared to the previous album. But still… it’s eighties Music from GB. Gotta love it
This was a nice, cozy surprise. It might not be the most inspiring or groundbreaking, but it is just good music, very well produced and performed.
I guess it’s pretty good. I am not the biggest hip hop fan so it has to be really good to catch my attention. There are definitely some catchy moments on here. And her rapping is crazy good, but I quickly get bored. The Rain is really good though
Awesome psychedlic gem
Amazing record. I always fall into a comfortable place when I listen to this
This is just one of those records that means so much to me, and it will always be an important part of my life
This is great - Musically, I can hear Rolling Stones all over the record, but more punky and fun. It feels like a live record, which I really love.
This is weird, boring and pretentious. Not for me
Hmm - There are three good songs in the beginning of the album and then the rest is just not very interesting. One World is okay though and the title track is actually pretty great also
It’s fairly good - but I am more of a rock person, so I normally wouldn’t put this on voluntarily. But I’m glad I listened to it. It’s just too long! I prefer albums to be around 40 minutes. Not more than one hour
I like punk, but to be honest I’m not too fond of the very fast punk like this. But I did bob my head and tap my feet listening to this record though.
Nick Drake was an amazing artist - this album is great, but I like his other two albums better. There’s too much production going on here. Poor Boy is too jazzy for it’s own good compared to the other songs. But there are still some amazing gems on the album.
Musically/hook wise/Biggie’s rapping abilities: amazing Lyrically/content: I’m too old for this kind of thing Skits: dumb/unnecessary It’s terrible to think about what might have been going on in the background with P.Diddy pulling the strings
This is pretty cool. I really enjoy these post punk albums. The bass on here is great and drives the melody forward. But I’m not completely won over compared to for example Joy Division, Television, or Magazine. I don’t really know what it is - but I am still really happy that I was introduced to this, and I am going to listen many more times, that’s for sure
23 tracks in less than an hour… is this speed punk? Well it’s quite okay to listen to, but it’s not my cup of tea - unfortunately it reminds me of waiting in line on the telephone. It’s only when Wiz Khalifa or Kendrick Lamar contributes, that I remember that I don’t need a doctor’s appointment.
Amazing! For the most part - the saxophone can get a little crazy sometimes, but in general, this is just great music with a great vibe
I’ve always loved Slipknot. The mix between metal, pop, hip hop, industrial, groove and everything in between is just great. This album is by far not my favourite by them, but I still enjoy it. Joey Jordinson on drums is simply incredible and can’t be denied
Yes… The Beach Boys are an important part of musical history, and it only takes one second to know that it’s them when you turn on a song. That doesn’t make everything they made, good music. Help me Rhonda is good though… perhaps because of the nostalgia that hits me when I listen to the early Beach Boys songs. And a song like Kiss Me, Baby has that beautiful vocal arrangement that we also hear a lot on Pet Sounds This album is not the Beach Boys I like. Pet Sounds is where it’s at! And that’s more like “Brian Wilson ft. the Beach Boys.” But this is still fun to listen to, but the lyrics… oh my God they are terrible
Wonderful and beautiful music
This is a wonderful album
Might be the best hair metal band/albums of the 80s. I think they are massively underrated
I listened to this album to death back in the day. It’s so nostalgic for me. But it’s their debut, that really stands out in my book. That one is a genuine masterpiece. This is not up there, but still very enjoyable
I don’t really like this type of music. I get bored easily by this - Yes, I know the massive hit Smooth Operator, and I noticed that she was a huge star when I was I kid, but it’s just not for me. The quality of the music and her voice is undeniable though
Yeah, we get it. He almost got killed. I have never liked the 90s gangster rap and hip hop - It’s just too far from my reality. Tupac was a real asshole - read up on it. He was a rapist, was violent and a murderer… maybe people should stop idolizing him I am not into the hip hop genre, so that doesn’t help either
It’s okay. I’m not really into this genre. I do remember, though, that I really loved her later album The Velvet Rope, so hopefully that album is included in this 1001 book. But this style is just not for me
This is great - I like Iggy the best when he’s David Bowie. I’m not sure China Girl would pass today, but it’s the best song on the album
I’ve spent many years trying to get into The Rolling Stones. I knew many of their hits, and liked them. Suddenly a handful of years ago, I sat down and listened to this album. When I did, and Gimme Shelter started, it clicked. That song is an absolute masterpiece, and I began to appreciate the band more. There are, though, a little too many honky tonk songs on this album for my taste. This album is one of my favourites by the band though, but Sticky Fingers is the one that hits it home
Pretty good stuff. It’s nice to listen to on a quiet morning while getting ready to do very little. Perhaps put on a checkered flannel shirt and grow a beard… drink a flat white
I get tired of it quite fast. It might be the lyrics that are almost obnoxious - same with the vocals
I love this album - lots of great, catchy songs.
It’s okay, I guess - for some people. I got stressed out from listening to this. It’s all over the place.
Oh dear… this is just terrible in my ears. It starts okay, but as it progresses, it just gets worse and worse.
Asshole
Unmistakenly Beck! It’s pretty good. Especially Girl, Black Tambourine, . Buuut 54 minutes of this gets a little too much at a time for my taste. I don’t really get why I have to listen to this before I die. There are definitely other Beck albums that fit that bill much better: Mellow Gold, Odelay or Midnite Vultures. Even Morning Phase.
This is an awesome album. The sound is insanely recognisable and I just love the riffs and the drum work!!
Great surprise for me. I’ve only listened to Cocteau Twins whenever Spotify sends me in that direction. I have never listened to the band in full, but this was a nice listen. Dreamy, grand, exciting… Kate Bush’y or Björk’y - I do get a little tired of it after a while, though. I will definitely listen to this again
I’ve never really understood why they put live recordings in a book about “albums”. But the live recordings I’ve encountered in this project are very fitting, so it does make sense. This is an amazing live album - I love Neil Youngs music, and to get to listen to how he and his bands sounds live, is great. I love how it starts out acoustically and then Crazy Horse steps in around halfway through
It’s okay - I didn’t think I would enjoy it, but here we are, and I think it’s fine. Although I easily get tired of listening to this type of music for too long. That’s also the case here. But in small doses, it’s okay
It’s just so damn good. Full of catchy songs and a great classic vibe. I love it. If you don’t know already, go read the story behind this band - and listen to their two other records also. They are also amazing. Their second album might even be better than this.
Great voice. Not my favourite genre of music. The emperor’s new clothes could have been an 80s hit. But it came a couple of years too late. 3/5
It’s good I suppose. I’m not really into the whole sexy-buttery-soul vibe in music, though, so I’m not going to put this on again ever, I think
It’s fine. I never really connected with this type of music.
Great album - there are so many classics on here. It is, however, the weakest album of the big four by Metallica. Removing the bass from the mix was such a dick move!
An amazing album from start to finish. The mood, the voice, the whole thing… it’s just fantastic. And to think that it closes with the masterpiece, Glory Box… that’s just insane
This is a great album from start to finish. I love Bolan’s voice and guitar-work.
It’s okay - I have to listen to it a couple more times, because it does remind me of other stuff from the same period, that I like. But I think it laves that special something… The voice needs some getting used to
This is a fun album to have playing in the background when you are playing cards and drinking beers with your buddies. The hits are great, the others songs are fine. Eddie Van Halen was an amazing guitarist.
So many hits - such good pop quality
I really don’t care for this kind of music, and to me, the fact that it’s still so new makes it falsely placed on this 1001 list. It’s uninteresting
Amazing! It’s crazy how good this is
I have nothing new or interesting to say about this. 4/5
This is an odd mixture of great psychedelic rock and garden gnome tales… I like the psychedelic rock type songs the most.
I have dreaded this day for a long time. I have always identified myself as someone who doesn’t like Beyonce’s music and music of this genre. After having listened to this, I still indentify as such a person, but I can tolerate some of the songs. But it’s not fair that it’s 1 h. 33 mins. - that’s just too much Beyonce and friends for me
This is great. There are some real gems on here - especially Pale Blue Eyes. But I do think that the record is front loaded. The closing song, though, is wonderful
I’ve always loved Muse. The hard rock version of Radiohead, and to some extent Queen’s younger cousin. There are some amazing songs on here, and it is definitely one of Muse’s best albums. Knights of Cydonia might be my favourite Muse song.
It’s pretty fun throughout the album
It’s okay - it quickly gets tedious and repetitive though. Definitely not as strong as Maggot Brain
Yikes - I had not expected this. I like Weather With You, so I thought that I would also enjoy the rest of the album. But no. Not at all
This is great - so many good songs, that had just been lying in the “no thanks, George” pile. He had so much to show us outside of The Beatles, and it’s just wonderful stuff
It’s a nice mixture between rock and rap/hip hop (as far as I know - I’m not really into the hip hop/rap genre). I can hear that they are very good at what they do. But I just don’t really want to listen to this type of music Some of it is fine as background noise and The Seed 2.0 is great
A masterpiece
I bought this as a digital copy back when the band offered it for “free”. I never really listened to it though. But I have listened later on in life - and it’s pretty good actually. Easier to get into than Kid A.
I kinda like it. I think it needs a few more listens, but there might be too much weird stuff going on compared to other Flaming Lips records. Favourite tracks: Buggin and Feeling Yourself Disintegrate
Hip hop and rap never really achieves to touch me emotinally like rock or jazz can. I can hear that this is quality, I guess. It is more up beat and playfull than other hip hop, that I’ve tried to avoid in the past, so that is positive.
This is very good - and I get Pavement, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones and other nice vibes from this. I wish, though, that I only had to listen just one of the discs in this project - 1 h. 17 m. is way too long. But actually, I can’t decide which disc I like the most. It might be disc 2
It’s pretty good. I like the style, the atmosphere and her voice. I just don’t quite get why such a new album is on this list
Listened to this to death back in the day. Yeah… I’m older and wiser now but who cares - this is still a lot of fun!
Amazing album - right down my alley. But I also really like Television, Queens of the Stoneage, The Black Keys, The Strokes, so it shouldn’t surprise me
This is pretty good. I like the feel of it. Favourite tracks are Concrete Jungle and Little Bitch. But I need that punch that punk or post punk gives, that ska doesn’t. I like the tracks that are closest to the Clash in style - the others are not nearly as good
It’s Bowie so it’s good. I love Bowie, and he has created so much amazing and powerful music, so he means a lot to me. There are some good songs on here, but it’s definitely not as strong or catchy as his prime work Favourite tracks: Love is Lost, Where are We Now?, Valentine’s Day (although that might be a little too bland) and You Will Set the World on Fire I never really got into this, even though it might be a spiritual follow up to Heroes judging by the cover art.
So many classics. Yeah, I know, we laugh a little at Kiedis’ lyrics sometimes, but there are still a very good amount of amazing songs on here. I listened to this album so much in my teens.
Someone mentioned in a review that she is the female Tom Petty. I can see that - it’s a pretty cool observation. However, in her own right, Sheryl Crow has an amazing, amazing voice, and she really makes every song sound interesting. The genre is not really for me, but there is something here that’s still interesting enough for me to keep listening. I do think that Solidify, The Na-Na Song and What Can I Do could be dropped from the tracklisting.
This is a wonderful addition to the Christmas Playlist. So many hits, that most people recognize which make it a good choice for most cheerful Christmas parties or preparations
I’ve never really enjoyed electronic music that much, so it gets repetitive.
It’s better than his “There’s no place like America Today” album - This has less sexy-buttery-soul-vibe compared to the “America” album
Amazing - and playful, weird and almost arrogant. This is the type of electronic music I like; the old stuff
Terrible
Very nice collection of songs - I do tend to skip the most country-ish songs, though. But the rest are wonderful songs by great legends
It’s good. Very nice to listen to - Coldpay’s dark and gloomy cousin
Full of hits - fun to listen to although I rarely choose to do so. It’s only fitting when I chug beers with my old buddies
It’s pretty good - there are som real bangers on here. But there are also a couple of fillers - some songs/melodies that get too repetitive. But I will definitely put this record on again in the future
It took me a couple of listens, but now I really like it. I’ve always known the occasional Nick Cave songs, but I’ve not really delved into it until now. I’m glad I did
It’s okay - it’s a little too much after a while though. Not as strong as other bands such as Duran Duran. It’s like there are too many sounds/instruments going, where I would say that Duran Duran have perfected it and created really strong hooks with the same tools and genre
Perfect - simply perfect. And it has maybe one of my top 10 favourite songs on here: Mayonaise
It’s not for me… Ms Jackson and one or two other songs can do, but I get tired of listening pretty quickly. This was a chore to get through. And spare me from the skits. I do like their voices though
It starts out strong - but the second track almost made me want to turn the music off - and Bloodsport is also too repetitive. But there are definitely a handful of quite good songs on here
Yasss!! Galloping madness! Not my favourite Maiden album, but Run to the Hills is so close to being my favourite Maiden song
This is just amazing! And also weird and strange - I love it. And always have. Even though it is not the best Beatles album, it was and is still such an amazing tour through song/music display for others to learn from
Hmm… there are two good songs: Jealous Guy and Gimme the Truth… but that’s about it. Imagine was overplayed in my childhood, so I never need to listen to it again Lennon without the Beatles is just not for me.
I must have listened to this a lot back when it came out because I remembered all the songs. It’s actually pretty good - I have not listened to the band since then though, so there’s a fine line between good and forgettable with this one
No
How come they were able to create two such amazing songs as Sunday Bloody Sunday and New Year’s Day and then for the rest of the album give us such forgettable songs? Surrender and 40 are the best of the rest
It’s Bob Dylan, so I’m drawn to it… buuut it’s definitely not my favourite Dylan - this type of blues does not really fit him
The music is good… but the whole thing is just too weird. Many of the songs could fit okay as soundtracks for different movies, but I don’t have those movies to reel me in, which makes this whole thing uninteresting and almost annoying. I know that all the songs are tributes to artists, band and movie directors, but it just does not work for me. In a moment of clarity was the hoghlight
I was very positively surprised by this. I Think I could see myself putting this on again in the future. Favourite tracks: 1,2,5,6,8
It’s taken me from the time it was released and until now to try and appreciate this record. It hurt so much when they released this after OK Computer, and I still think it’s difficult to really appreciate it. I’m getting closer, though. Ask me again in 25 years
Well… each song sounds like a different band or artist that they either are emulating or have inspired. Which of course isn’t bad. I hear some 13th floor Elevators, Jimi Hendrix, Rush, Cream. I actually really like this - even though I must say, that there are so many psych rock bands from this era in the book that it is almost too much
Overall I really like this. I didn’t know what to expect, and was pleasantly surprised - especially by the first three tracks. The fourth and sixth songs must be some kind of a PRE-post-punk songs - although I can hear some Stooges in there also. E-Musik was too long and repetitive though.
For me this is a masterpiece that I thoroughly enjoy - and I always have. Well maybe not Fitter Happier, but the Beatles also had some weird shit on some of their best albums
Cult of Personality is definitely a banger. The rest is very enjoyable but it all seems a bit outdated so I probably won’t put it on anytime soon
Meh… there are some good tunes on here, but I really don’t think there is anything extraordinary which makes it one of the most important albums in history
Okay - a couple of hits that I think are okay. But I just don’t like hiphop enough to want to listen by free will. The Music never touches me the way that other genres do
This is quite a good album, definitely. Only Happy When it Rains is amazing and Stupid Girl is also a great song.
This is almost very good - but it’s so stressful. Overall the music is pretty great. Her voice is actually also pretty cool. It’s just the mannerism, rhythm and repeating in her singing that stresses me out in many of the songs. Cold Light, No No No and Y Control are my favourites on here
I don’t know too much about Elvis Costello (plus band) - Only the biggest hits. I can hear who they were inspired by and who they inspired. It’s definitely easy to hear that a former Beatles producer worked on this album. I think it’s too clean sounding - I know that there are earlier records from them that are more to my taste from what I have listened to. It doesn’t really click with me. But The Loved Ones is a good song - and also Pidgin English
I love Miles Davis’ trumpet playing of this type. Although it is relaxing there are many passages with tempo, which is also great - this is just the kind of jazz I love. I am dreading, though, the day when I have to listen to Bitches Brew, which is definitely not my taste
Incredicle
How can you not give this/her a 5 star review. When I listen I keep thinking, this must be the best female voice ever recorded. It just so goddamn good! And the music is just so catchy - it’s not something I would put on regularly though, but this record is just so damn good that I can’t give it less than 5 stars
Talking Heads jam without the greatness of David Byrne. But it’s still pretty good though
Yummy guitars all over the place! I love it. George Clinton and his companions are legends - this is an amazing album overall. There are a few tracks that I could live without though: You and your folk, Me and my folks, Back in Our Minds and maybe Wars of Armageddon
This was a positive surprise. I really liked it, and I will definitely put this on again on a frequent basis
It’s a nice album full of nice songs… nothing really outstanding. I find myself liking the Neil Young songs the most
Amazing
It’s fine - there are a couple of pretty good songs on here, which makes it worthwhile. However there is something about it, that I miss, apparantly
I like the storytelling on here, and the atmosphere that the band and Nick Cave creates. I am not sure if I think this is as good as, or better than, for example Let Love In, Abattoir Blues or The Boatman’s Call which are the other albums that I know from Nick Cave and band
I can appreciate a few of the songs. But there are also a handful that are just “too much”. But a song like Telescopic Alchemy is pretty good
It’s good. And after having listened three times in a row, I can also say that there are some memorable bangers on here, but I still struggle with remembering them all and telling them apart. Opening track, Housequake, Starfish and Coffee and The Cross stand out
The production is amazing - it’s so crisp. And the musicianship is also amazing - plus, Animal and Pour Some Sugar are bangers. But time has really not been good to hair metal. It sounds so outdated, and the strange thing is that the songs all feel so damn long (because they are). I need more epic guitar solos in the songs. But I can see why this was such a massive hit back in the day, and I also listened to this and other hair metal bands, a lot, as a teenager, in the early 90’s
I don’t know what really to think about this. Musically, it’s nice but also boring at the same time. And the lyrics… ???
Amazing record. I had never listened to this, even though I love jazz and Count Basie. This will move into my regular rotation for sure
It’s better than I had expected. Maybe because it’s dad rock, and I’m a dad? I remember when I was a kid, I definitely did not like this type of music, so I had low expectations going into this. I get kind of a 70’s The Beatles vibe if they has never disbanded However, this is just waaay to long. I do get tired of it at some point
In the morning of the Magicians is quite good. Other than that, I get bored
Really great album - I enjoyed it very much. The title track is a classic.
Zero, Skeletons, Soft Shock, Dull Life are great! I might like this album better than their Fever to Tell The acoustic versions on this release on Spotify are also a nice treat
If I had to choose to listen to hip hop, it would this kind of Kate 80’s/early 90’s stuff. I really don’t enjoy hip hop in general, but this is pretty good, actually
It’s good - but I would not necessarily choose this again. It might fit perfectly as a movie soundtrack, and I would enjoy that movie
I love it - most people do. Those that don’t love it, don’t have ears
As it is with hip hop and rap, I am not the biggest fan. But if I had to choose, it will always be late 80’s early 90’s like this right here.
Yeah… this is too weird for me
Unfortunately I am not driving down the North American West Coast in my convertible, so I’m not really enjoying this record all that much… But if I were driving down that coast, this is what I would put on. Take it Easy, Earlybird and Tryin’ are really good songs. Chug All Night belongs on all juleboxes on the sleazy bars on that drive
This is just awesome. I once played in a cover band called Sour Cream in which we played all these classics
Not the worst I’ve heard. I can tolerate early 90’s rap - and to be fair, this is actually okay. But I just find it hard to connect to
This is a wonderful record. I love the stripped down songs and the atmosphere of this record
Masterpiece. One of my favourite albums
It’s fine - I can use it as background music, but I would not necessarily put this on freely anytime soon though
This quite good! I had only heard Lately before, which is an amazing song. I loved the two earlier records, and listened to them a lot back in the day, but for some reason I never got to listen to this, which is a real shame.
I know… three strong females with great voices and careers. I just don’t like this kind of country
It’s fairly good, but repetitive. The songs feel like they are all too long. There are a couple of classics, and the musicianship can’t be denied, buuuut it’s just too repetitive
I think I’m suffering from sort of psychedelic/acid rock fatigue. This is fine, but I am not surprised by anything nor do I really need to listen to this again
It’s okay - nothing memorable. Although, I might have heard Big Sur back when it came out, but it was not something that made me want to go listen this. I actually wanted to skip most of the songs towards the end
Little Wing is such an amazing song - and yes, Jimi Hendrix was an amazing guitarist and pioneer within guitar playing. I do like some of the other songs on here, but I prefer some of his other albums over this.
I had to listen on YouTube. But it’s a very nice album, which I enjoyed quite a bit
A very nice album - I enjoyed it a lot. I did, however, listen to Suzanne just after the record ended, and that song is somewhat a better version of all these songs on here. Plus, some of his choices for instruments are a bit weird on here.
Come on… It’s just too early to say that this is so important and special that it needs to be on this list. I completely understand and respect the message, but still… I enjoyed the track X though, but this type of music is just not for me
He’s a very sick individual who occasinally makes good music. I just never listen to it freely - not only because he’s that person, but also because I really never cared about this type of music - it doesn’t really move me emotionally
This was really a joy to listen to. And Spotify sent me on a journey through lots of other great artists afterwards. Apparantly I love this genre
As with his other album on this list, I really don’t know what excactly to think of it. It’s okay, but also kind of boring, or at least a little “off”.
First song is a real classic - I don’t think I’d heard any of the other songs besides that and It Ain’t No Fun to Me (which is also really good!) before. I started out liking the record, but at some point it just became a little too much cream and butter for my taste.
Yeah… it’s really not for me. This is the type of country I do not like
This is great - and different from the later Maiden albums. Prowler and Running Free are classics and some of my favourite Maiden songs
No thank you
So over the top it actually *almost becomes good… but only almost, because I find the whole thing funny instead, which isn’t the intent, I think. I’m not sure I have the stamina to listen through this from start to finish again, but there are a few songs, that are good on their own
The magic of PJ Harvey is completely gone here. This is not very good, and often just annoying to listen to
This is good - very catchy to listen to. Do I hear some Television here?
It’s catchy, but the lyrics are dumb at best, and I really don’t like gangsta hip hop and rap. Snoop is just awesome though!
3/5 and that’s me being nice. Totally overrated. I prefer his comeback er a, and Vegas era much more
I understand the historic/musical importance of hardcore bands like these, but it’s hard to listen to. Luckily it’s often over before you know it. 21 minutes is completely fine
So many bangers… but I would argue that there are fillers on here, like “The Girl (Beatles Song Collection) is Mine” and “The Lady in My Life”
There’s a lot of great stuff on here. Many Hendrix hits and gems, but the other songs on here are also pretty great. Overall this is a 5/5 record
It’s not bad, it’s not good, it’s just bland. Favourite track: Dying Days. Other than that I was quite bored
Love his voice. Some of thee songs are too long, so it’s hard for me to really distinguish it all from each other and thereby enjoy it thoroughly.
Amazing
It’s cool. I’ve never really listened to Judas Priest besides some hits.
I don’t know what to do with this. I really like it, but I am not in an Irish bar! But I want to be. Because I’m not in a bar or at a folk music festival, I get Irish folk music fatigue after a good handful of songs. This record is too long for my taste.
Wow - extremely underrated compared to their peers. I LOVE this!!! I only really knew their biggest hits Alright, Moving and Pumping on Your Stereo before listening today. This is going into my record collection asap
This is great. If you like Depeche Mode, this might be the best of the albums. Although Black Celebration and Music for the Masses are also insanely good
It’s really hard to listen to. I have found out that I enjoy his very early work much more. This strange voice that he has chosen is just too hard to listen to. Only a few songs are okay for me
No… this is just not very good
So many classic hits. Enjoyable - insane bass!!
A Design for Life is such an amazing song, that has loved rent Free in my brain for almost 30 years. This song almost single handedly gives this record 4 stars. There are some tracks that I don’t really enjoy, but Everything Must Go, Small Black Flowers and a couple of other are pretty good. 3/5
It’s okay. Not really my jam. I don’t suspect I will put this on again
I am actually pretty positively surprised by this. I only knew Come on Eileen, and didn’t really know what exactly to expect. I get The Cure and Talking Heads vibes, which is a very good thing. I like most of the songs, and will get back to this on a regular basis for sure
Holy shit, this is good!
Amazing album. Her voice is incredible, and the mixture of different genres is awesome.
This quite okay. I do get a little tired of it after a while. I remember the song The Mother We Share from back when it was played on the radio. I don’t really agree that this is something so important that it needs to be on this list, though
3/5 I like this more than his debut and early work in general. I prefer the more upbeat songs on here the most - the country songs are not my jam
This is incredible
As always, I love his voice and his whining, so this was definitely enjoyable. It’s not as good as The Smiths - one of my favourite bands, but this record, Viva Hate, Your Arsenal and You are the Quarry are quite good albums. There is just something about Morrissey - even though his politics are shit!
Amazing - one of my favourites not just of Bowie, but in general
Yet another amazing album by The Smiths. Girlfriend in a Coma/Band in a coma ready to break up? I wish Morrissey and Johnny Marr never had a fall out
This is kinda strange, but I really like it. And the musicians joining him on the records are incredible also.
A lad insane. This is an incredible album!
I don’t really like this type of music. I get that he has a good voice, but I am bored
It’s okay - there are some gems on here, but they are too far and wide. The album gets too long for me. It should have been a 35 minute album. I could have listened to the songs that are too bluesy on other blues artists’ albums, and perhaps they would also be better there
I think I might begin to like this as time goes by and I’ve listened to it some more. I had never heard of him before, but I really find his music quite interesting
This is just too weird. But I heard it before I died, so there’s that.
Amazing. Teenage me loved it and 45 year old me still loves it
Once again as it is with all hip hop… It is not a genre that I enjoy very much, but I do appreciate her talent
Definitely not a genre for me. I’ve always hated going out to clubs or overcrowded bars - this music reminds me of that. Red Alert rings a bell… But I would never put this album on freely
This is amazing - I hear a lot of The Cure, Joy Division, Magazine etc. in this. The best soup you could serve me
The Talking Heads Jam… some of the songs are good, but for the most part, I don’t think this is very strong. I like Rip it Up (could have been shorter though), and Turn Away, but the rest are forgettable to me. I was actually more excited to find out what Spotify had lined up for me after listening to this album Funny that this is the band with Edwyn Collins
No thank you. It’s even worse than I feared
It’s good - cool guitars and stuff. Too bad that it is not completely live. I especially love the guitar on Still in Love With You. I’m a sucker for those pentatonic notes
It’s a wonderful album. She has a great unique voice and style. I like the more upbeat songs on here the most
It’s a too cute for me - and very dated
So groovy and fun to listen to… although that weird flute kills Watermelon Man. The rest is cool though
Wonderful album
Amazing album. Sad and dark and fragile and beautiful
It’s relatively hard to listen to. I do like her on the Velvet Underground record, but that’s also because of the music and atmosphere. The music and atmosphere on here is not that great
Not for me
It’s quite good all around, but I find myself liking the more bluesy tracks more. No Woman No Cry is a real classic
It’s not really something I would put on and enjoy. There’s something about the production I find to be “off”. It’s kind of boring and her voice is not very interesting
It’s fine. I would never put this on, as I don’t really know which occasion I could find where it fits in
It’s pretty good and enjoyable.
Amazing album - I’ve listened to this a million times, and never get tired of it
I love jazz, and actually also some Bill Evans Trio albums. This is also good, but I think there’s too much upright bass melody/noodling gong on for my taste
I wanted to skip this before even listening. I am not at all into hip hop or rap. I can enjoy some early stuff. But this is just not for me.
Strange but also kind of cool
A great record that, to me, was kind of a comeback record for the band.
This is definitely not my jam… Too buttery soft at times, and too boring at other times
Yes! So cool
How do I rate this? I don’t like the music, but as a teen I’ve been to many parties, where the music was played, and being a drunk teen is fun. The record is significant in music history, so it might be fair to put in on this list. However, this type of pop music is just so cookie cutter, and the music from other artists of the same kind (both girls and boy bands) was just not good
Stone cold classic
The music is wonderful and I can tolerate Tom Waits’s voice on here compared to his later work
Amazing… this is just incredible.
Yikes
Nope
Yeeees - this is such a great album!
This is pretty good. I had never heard of Alexander Spence before, but I’m glad I was introduced to this album. Is good, but weird… I get psychedelic Nick Drake vibes. Reading the backstory of this album is quite depressing
It falls into the category of old school hip hop I can tolerate, but I would never put this on freely
A great classic full of catchy tunes.
Born to Run (the song) is an absolute masterpiece. The rest of the songs are good/very good, but they kind of blend together. I have a hard time telling them apart. I like The River, Darkness at the Edge of Town and Nebraska more than this album. But somehow I think I would rate them all 4/5. Perhaps Nebraska gets a 5/5
I don’t really know if I like this or not. I wanted to skip track 2 constantly because I felt it was a bad version of Moonage Daydream. But other songs on here are quite okay. It’s like a psychedelic folk/country universe
Hmm… some of it is good, but I think it needs some sort of edge Matty Groves is good and Tam Lin closes in on something interesting - almost Jefferson Airplane-ish. It’s definitely the best track on here
It’s historically important - the music is fine, but it’s definitely not something that really moves me. I’ve heard many of the songs during my lifetime though, and if the right situation comes, I would probably bob my head a little
Swamp blues. I love it
I’m very disappointed. I had high hopes for this… it’s too pretentious. There are glimpses of gold hidden in some of the songs, but definitely not enough to make it worth my while Stop speaking over the music
This is great. I often forget that I really like Beck and listened a lot to him back in the day. This album along with Mellow Gold and Midnite Vultures are a great trio of albums
Awesome songs + nostalgia = 5/5
This is The Beatles for “small boy” me. I like revisiting this record from time to time. There are some fillers on here though. Can’t Buy Me Love is one of my favourite Beatles songs even though I prefer post “Rubber Soul” Beatles
This might be one of the first “Big albums” that I really fell in love with when I was young and had begun my musical journey
At the right setting and moment, this fits perfectly. A warm day on the terrace with a drink would be a nice setting
To me Rod Stewart will always be kind of kitsch. He was all over the (wrong) place when I grew up - I didn’t really like his hits that were overplayed on the radio. And this record is not even that type - it’s not very interesting. I like his contribution in The Faces much more. I appreciate that he has a distinctive voice that everybody can identify in a heartbeat, but this record is kind of dull
Sorry, man. I really don’t like this mess
This was a hard listen… I totally respect Tina Turner and her career, but this is so 80’s in the wrong way. There is so much amazing music from the 80’s, but this type rubs me the wrong way. The hits were overplayed in my childhood to the point where I never want to listen to them again “I can’t stand the rain” is pretty great, but I’ve heard better versions though. Let’s stay together is almost good, but it turns into that damn 80’s sauce that I really don’t like, and Help is just awkward
Overall this is a record with an amazing atmosphere, and Kate Bush’s voice and performance is great. Jig of Life pulled me out of it all, unfortunately and I think that side 2 of the record is a little too much at some point
This is where it gets really interesting for the teenager, exploring The Beatles. And that was also the case for me. It’s a good mixture between early Beatles and experimenting Beatles
My ears and mind are totally tuned into Neil Young. I love this record! It’s crazy to think that many people hadn’t heard this until 2003 when it was re-released.
To me, it’s not as strong as I, II and IV, but close enough, though. There are some real bangers on here
I love swinging Sinatra. This is great!
It’s impossible for me to describe the awesomeness of this album
This is crazy. 12 hours ago the news broke that Brian Wilson had died. I love Pet Sounds so much, and there are many similarities on this record, which is great. But it lacks some of the magic from Pet Sounds. It’s not as grand, but there are definitely some great, great moments on here. Brian Wilson leaves an amazing legacy behind. Rest in Peace
She had an incredible and captivating voice. This record fits that perfectly - its full of great songs that I often revisit
Could be the soundtrack to one of those early 90’s MTV type romantic drama/comedies. It’s fine, but nothing outstanding - I think it needs some sort of edge - like Pavement or Dinosaur Jr. has
It’s okay… nothing outstanding. Actually some of the songs annoy me a little. It gets a 2/5
A very enjoyable listen. I will definitely put this into my jazz rotation
This is amazing - legendary and incredible
The cover art is misleading. I wish this music were as mellow and laid back as the cover, but instead it’s a strange mix between a weird Las Vegas show and psychedelic singer/songwriter atmosphere. She switches between singing well and phrasing very annoyingly. I’ve listened to this before today also, but it never really managed to reel me in - I get annoyed by the whole thing
What’s Going On and Mercy Mercy Me are amazing, but I find it hard to really connect with the other songs. They need some sort of hook or recognizability that the other two songs have
I guess it’s fine… I can’t really get on board with it though.
I’ve suffered from “late 60’s psychedelic music fatigue” during this whole listening project, but this album is great! I had heard it a few times before today because it’s one of those albums which are always mentioned as “one of the greats”. It’s wonderful - and short. Time of the Season is such a great classic. I could have been without a couple of the songs towards the end though, like This Will Be Our Year and Butcher’s Tale
It’s quite nice. Nothing spectacular though
Very pleasant all the way throughout. Not crazy good or anything… just pleasant and enjoyable. Of course I knew Scarborough Fair and Homeward Bound, but the other songs were also pretty good, perhaps excluding “A Simple Desultory Philippic (or How I Was Robert McNamara'd into Submission)”
It’s doesn’t really do it for me.
I understand the importance of this record and the band members. I’ve watched “The Decline of Western Civilization”, and the biopic “What We Do is Secret” about the band and Darby Crash. But hard-core punk is just not for me
This is really not a genre for me. It’s not bad, but I would never put this on
I like some Prince - definitely not all. I gravitate towards the songs where he rips the shit out of his guitar. There are only a few of those on here - and too many songs that get repititive. 3/5
I can’t stand this… Girlfriend is an okay song. I guess because of the background theme. Otherwise this is not for me
It’s pretty good, but I can only enjoy it in small doses. I paused after the first 8 tracks, returned and stopped after the first 13 tracks from the original release, but listening to those 13 tracks were a nice experience. I just know that I would need a few breaks in between listening.
Sometimes this is my favourite Dylan album.
This genre is not for me. I get bored and want to skip the songs. Even when Waterfalls was on MTV all the time, I couldn’t find the love for it. But they are good at what they do
I like their 2008 album, but had never heard this one. It’s much more raw and even has a little The Strokes vibe mixed with some southern twang Towards the end when it becomes more southern in its style, I begin to enjoy it more
It’s fine. I get some 70’s vibes, which is not too bad. I’m not sure I am going to listen again, though
Rockabilly- and crooner-punk. Pretty good.
This sits a few steps below the post punk, I really enjoy. I like it but it doesn’t grab me the way that post punk usually does
This is pretty great - I always enjoyed the hits on MTV, but never really dived into their catalog, but it’s two great albums from them on this list, which is a surprise.
It’s fine - Not anything special
It’s okay - Although a little weird at times. I don’t know when I would put it on though
Yeah, I don’t know…. - not something I would put on again anytime soon
I still haven’t found what I’m looking for on this album. The first three songs are incredible - it might be one of the best openings of a record ever, but the rest are definitely not up to par
I might enjoy this as background music at a beach bar, but it gets repetitive and I would never choose this to play voluntarily
Hmm - I think I like this. After a couple of listens, I feel intrigued to put this on at other occasions in the future
I’ve tried so many times… I just can’t enjoy this
It’s well written and well produced, and there are actually a selection of pretty good songs on here. It’s much more interesting and fun compared to other artists in the same category
Some of it is fine, but it’s not quite as interesting as what I normalt listen to from this era
This is just great - One of their best albums
Not my favourite - at all
I don’t know, man… it’s a mixture between good and cringe… I was listening while charging my electric car. At first, while waiting, it was a fun listen, just like how I was enjoying the battery going from 12% to around 70%, fast… but as time went by, it became less of a joyful experience to listen, and I wanted it to end, just like my charging session
I love it - It’s a real classic for me
I respect her and her voice is great, but this is just not music for me. So, so boring
This is amazing. One of my favourites
Way too repetitive… Da Funk is the closest to something that I like on here. Why did the record have to be more than one hour long??
Ozzy died yesterday - it hit me harder than I would have thought. RIP - Prince of Darkness. This is a perfect album
Very, very nice. Right up my alley in terms of this genre
It’s weird that I like this, but I do. Kraftwerk manages to create weird, almost pretentious, music, that is so catchy and fun to listen to
It’s not outstanding in any way, but pretty good. I can hear some Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr. and perhaps even som Heatmiser on here
This is a great album - Although I could have lived without the track Buried Alice in the Blues
Mother, Hold On, Worning Class Hero, Isolation and Love are good songs on an album that perhaps could have been a little shorter - there are too many sub-par songs on here
First album in the book. It’s good - Sinatra had a wonderful voice and it’s just a good listen. I’m also a sucker for his Christmas songs
This is dumb… but at the same time there are a few okay-ish songs on here
It’s actually not that bad. I’m just done with 1967 and cute psych pop…
Wonderful and pretentious jazz
Such a great record
It’s great - I picture a room full of people smoking cigars, having exotic drinks or dancing - while in the middle, at a round table, a group of gangsters are plotting their next move.
Overall a very good album. Steamroller is bad, though. And Oh Susannah is unnecessary. Fire and Rain is amazing
Terrible
It’s okay - I don’t think it has that thing that makes it interesting or makes me want to listen again and again. Plus, it’s more than an hour long! Come on… it should have been 35 minutes at the most
Yes please!
Enjoyable
It’s not for me. I never liked eurodance
High quality - there are so many good songs on here
Piece of My Heart is great - Janis’ voice is great on this album, but it’s a little weird that it’s “live”
It’s pretty great, although I’m really not that into hip hop. But I like this and the message much more than the dumb objectification of women and praise of violence, drugs and guns on other hip hop albums
I’ve tried a couple of times before, but I struggle to really enjoy Tim Buckley’s work. Some of it is fine but it doesn’t really grab me. Generally it’s too medieval/psych folky for my taste.
If I had to listen to hip hop, this would be on the list
It’s pretty cool, but I get a little tired of it after a while.
Amazing album - I’m beginning to like Peter Gabriel’s music more and more since starting this listening project. Robert Fripp’s guitar on this album is so good
I like punk because it paved the way for post punk, which is what I really love. But this record is pretty good - although there is nothing that really stands out
Yes, it’s always impressive when one person can play all instruments and mix and record everything singlehandedly. But oh my God this is boring
Yeah… I’ll pass. It’s pretty weird and pretentious. Musically it’s fine, but the melodies are uninteresting. Suddenly, I like disco more than usual
This is so crazy good. Each song is recognizable and distinguishable from the next, and it’s so catchy and raw. This is the type of punk I love
No thank you
Soul, funk and jazz mixed together. It’s nice
Love it - Quiet, Loud, Quiet. Raw
This is just friggin’ awesome
I’m not sure what to make of this. I can hear why it’s an important record, but I really don’t like it. The whole thing is weird and annoying
It’s definitely not as good as their first two records, which are really, really good. But there are a good handful of good songs on here. It starts off pretty bad with the first two songs before it picks up slowly after that - it’s not until Stroke it Noel, that I get hooked. I usually skip Femme Fatale and Nature Boy.
This is so weird - but delightfully weird. I like it
I have rarely felt as much pain as when I listened to Comfortably Numb on this record. I really like Take Your Mama, but other than that I’m not really into this
This is pretty awesome
Amazing - superb from start to finish
It’s fine, but at some point during my listens, I want to choke that vibrato
I get so bored
One hour of this is too much… actually one song is enough.
Very lovely album
I can’t really point out any stand out tracks here. There are Elvis Costello releases that are better than this
I enjoyed some of this when I was younger. Today I don’t really enjoy it that much anymore. Scooby Snacks is still cool though
12 year old me would have loved this. 45 year old me really like most of it
I’m never going to be a fan of hip hop or rap in general. This is, however, pretty good. Common is good at what he does, and even though I really don’t like Kanye West as a person, he is very good at sampling and finding interesting musical bits to use in music. So overall, this is good, but not something I would actively put on again
Musically important? I guess. Good? No
I don’t know what to think. I actually think I like it, but it feels too much like a demo recording. They should have chosen the best “songs” and spent time working on them. I think the record has massive potential
This is Music starts the record off real strong. But it goes downhill pretty fast from there. …and then it picks up again midway through
Weird vibe… it gould fit into a comedy heist movie from the mid 60’s
Starts off good with Time to Pretend - the hit. I think that the rest is pretty good, but I don’t think I’m going to listen to it again - It’s not really for me
This was everywhere back then. There are many hits, they are good, they are catchy, but the rest is forgettable and generally, it’s not a genre for me
It’s pretty cool - there are some bangers on here. It prefer the ones with the most catchy guitar riffs. I must admit, I’m a sucker for the late 80’s early 90’s Aerosmith. That’s what was on MTV in my youth. Along with Walk this Way of course
I’m sorry… I just don’t like this type of music. The musicians are good, but I just can’t listen to this and enjoy it.
Reminds me of a jam band version of Television, The Smiths and the likes… It’s actually okay, but it doesn’t really hit me the way those other band have done Favourite track: Was there anything I could do?
Pretty enjoyable. I was pleasantly surprised
I never really got on the Mothers of Invention/Frank Zappa train. It’s fine, this record, although I think there’s too many long passages of soloing
It’s pretty good. I’ve never heard Them before. It has that post-punk vibe that I like, so I might dive into this and other stuff from them
It’s fine - Jeff Beck was so good. I have been listening to so much psychedelic/blues rock from this era, that I’ve become a little tired of it though
It’s just so good - ingrained in musical culture
Love it
I would be in the target group for this, but there’s something missing here before it really hits with me. I do like some of the songs, like Ripple for example. I imagine sitting in a cottage out in the wilderness
It’s fine - I like the hits, but I am not really into this disco pop thing
It’s a struggle… it’s just too much - It’s like they try too hard. Epic was a massive hit when I was young, so I still kinda enjoy that. War Pigs is also kinda good because it’s War Pigs - One of the best heavy songs of all time. I’d much rather listen to Sabbath’s own version though
It’s one of those must haves on vinyl. It’s fun to look at all the different inlays. Oh yeah… the music is good too
Pretty cool
It’s not for me. I need something catchy within this type of music - or some songs that are more leaned back - it’s Way too stressful. NIN and early Marilyn Manson fits my taste much more
Some big hits that I really like, but I wouldn’t choose to listen to the rest of the songs again. I must have heard The Rockafeller Skank a million times because of FIFA 99 on PC Praise You is genuinely a great song
You have to be in a certain mood… I do like it though. I just rarely listen to it
Tainted Love is the really good song on here - the rest is not up to par. It’s not bad though, just not nearly as good as Tainted Love
Wow - I had never listened to Fiona Apple apart from a few hits and cover songs. Big mistake - I love this. Her voice is incredible
I know that this has been a positive surprise and a hidden gem for many of those going through the list of 1001 albums. I’ve listened to the album many times now, but I still haven’t really connected to it. It’s fine, but not amazing by any means
It’s good, she’s good, the music is good. But it takes forever to get through… I guess it’s something that would fit as background music at different occassions - perhaps during Christmas. At least some of it has Christmas vibes
It’s fine. I always picture listening to this at some sort of a beach bar. Wait a minute… I think I saw James Bond walking by
This is definitely rock bottom - terrible and weird
I’m not sure…. This is really not for me.
It’s better than what I got the impression of from the reviews on here. I think I’m going to listen to this again in the future.
I never really knew that I liked Simple Minds apart from their biggest hit, Don’t You (Forget about Me) but this is actually pretty good
80s awesomeness
It’s uninteresting. It’s just not something I would ever listen to.
I’m not all that impressed. It’s fine but nothing outstanding, although for some reason I’ve heard pt. 4 so many times before. It must have been on a Synthesizer Greatest compilation
This is right up my alley
I like it - it’s pretty cool, so I will definitely listen to this again
It’s pretty cool although I could live without the rockabilly type songs
This is just wonderful
It’s pretty good - I hear some Ramones, New York Dolls, David Bowie and Iggy in here
Not for me. The songwriting seems very amateurish and there are some songs where his voice does not fit the style
Industrial Nirvana - I like normal Nirvana better though
It’s fine. Not really something I would Ever choose to listen to though
I’m intrigued. It’s some sort of discount version of Television - not only because of the lead singer’s voice. I also get a Bowie/T Rex vibe I need to listen a few more times - however it’s definitely not as strong as for example Television or Magazine
Great stuff
It’s okay - I’m not the biggest Tom Waits fan.. The Music and atmosphere is great on here but I struggle listening to his voice, however it’s not too bad on this record
Hmm… It might be too shoegaze’y for me. Loveless is kind of the perfect mix between this record and their debut
Yeeeees
I guess it’s fine. It’s not really my thing
I really like this. Very catchy - and Teenage Kicks is a banger!
Classic Aerosmith was pretty cool. Pre hair metal and quite funky
Amazing
It’s fine I guess… but not for me. I would never listen to it voluntarily. I never listen to hip hop
Perfect for the long drive down the North American West Coast
I had heard about this before, but never gotten to listen until now. I am pleasantly surprised
Very enjoyable - The Cure Light with horns. But that’s not a bad comparison at all.
It’s good. Annie Lennox is a legend
Not really my jam
It’s quite okay - noisy but still okay. Too bad I can’t listen to this on Spotify but have to listen on Youtube
I get why it’s in the 1001 book. There are quite a few hits and real classics on here.
This is great. I’ve never listened before but I will definitely do so again. It reminds me of The Stooges and even a punkier version of Television
Great album with a good handful of songs that are extra great, like Tunic, Kool Thing, Disappearer and Titanium Expose
I just had Goo pop up on here yesterday. Well, Goo is really great - and to me, Daydream Nation is just as good
I am really trying to be a Yes man. I am almost there, but within Prog rock, there are other band I like more, and they also have a different vibe.
She has an incredible voice, but the music is definitely not for me. Of course you can hear that all the people behind this project are skilled, but it’s so bland. I had to put on some Joy Division to comfort myself
It’s a hot mess that never catches my attention
Too weird for me
Yeah… no…. Loving this might require a thousand listens or some sort of substance in my body
Important in musical history, fun to listen to, but not at all the best early punk out there
Love the title of this album so much… but this type of country is so, so terrible
It’s good - but also too dated for my taste. But of course this should be in the 1001 book
This is very good - just like the other Sonic Youth records in the 1001 book
I’m usually quite sceptic when it comes to newer additions to the 1001 book. But this is actually quite cool and catchy
It’s fine in small doses. But this album is just too goddamn long
It’s actually nice to listen to - I had zero expectations before listening for the first time
Pretty cool record, you can hear in the lyrics that they are just young dudes trying to get laid. I could live without the track We Will Fall.
This is for some strange reason fairly okay - for a country album.
Pretty good
bleh
Nice and chill record
RIP Mani. This is a really good and classic record. So many catchy tunes
It’s so great - a real classic - I can listen to this whenever
It’s fine - good as background music but I could definitely have lived without listening.
Psychedelic folk? Well it’s actually quite okay
There are a couple of great ones on here, but it’s definitely not my favourite Rolling Stones album. Too much honky tonky
I would have thought that I would enjoy this, but that wailing voice is just unbearable
Great - but there are better Blur albums
I don’t really know when is a good time for me to listen to this type of music…
Weirdly good actually. It’s nice that it’s not a total psychedelic rock fest, but that it’s chill instead
It’s Bruce. It’s fine - maybe a bit too dad rock-y. Why is this even in the 1001 book? His 18th album. There’s so many other bands that could have used this spot
Amazing album. Important soundtrack to my youth
Track A is awesome Track B starts out awesome and becomes annoying Track C is annoying all throughout Mode D is also too much
There are some really great songs on here, but as with the other Rolling Stones records, it gets too honky tonky sometimes. I enjoy the songs that are punk/blues in their style, and luckily they weigh the most on this album
I don’t really know what to think. There are a few good songs on here, like No More Mr. Nice Guy, Generation Landslide and I Love the Dead Inspired by The Who and inspiring Guns N Roses?
It’s not really my cup of tea. I’m aware of their huge popularity when I was a kid, but it never resonated with me then. But It’s a Sin a really great
A nice relaxing album
I guess it’s alright - I don’t really care for psychedelic music anymore
I’ve never really been into hip hop, but I enjoy this and other early hip hop more than today’s type of hip hop.
Dinosaur Jr. is just great - I have enjoyed listening to them since starting this 1001 project.
I guess it’s fine for those who like this genre. I’m not into hip hop and rap, so I get bored and loose interest pretty quickly.
No
Like a Prayer is amazing. Express Yourself is also a banger. Cherish is a really nice 80s pop song. There are some fillers - or at least songs that definitely aren’t good enough to stand the test of time, but all in all this is just a good pop album - and of course a cornestone in pop music generally.
I will never listen to this again
Pretty cool
Did Blur and even Morrissey look this way for inspiration? The Jam have been very underrated by me up until this listening project. This is pretty good
Pretty good - and there’s more to come
It’s fine because it’s early era hip hop - I’m not really into hip hop though
Perfect! and not only because everybody else says so - but because it is
It’s fine but not something I would ever put on. I would enjoy it in the right situation though. His cover of Imagine should never have happened, and the album is just way too long
Amazing album
Fine album - it’s easy to see where Dylan got his inspiration. Buuut Dylan did it better
Before Coldplay became too much - there are definitely a couple of great songs on here
I listened to this to death back in the day. Especially No Leaf Clover. Overall this was a fun spin on Metallica that I didn’t know I would enjoy as much as I did. It’s a fun take on a live concert, and I always felt that it’s a bit pretentious to diss on this album
This is very cool - Björk is just awesome
Great collection of songs - although too long. I would have enjoyed it more if the track list were at least cut in half
It’s pretty cool, but I could have lived with just one disc, not two. It’s too much of a good thing all at once
Annoying, weird, messy and pretentious
A fun listen - I like the style. I could have lived without the cover of Under the Boardwalk, but there are so many other bangers on here
This is actually very nice. I had never heard of her before
Almost over before it even began - which was pretty cool because I’m not really into hard-core punk.
It’s fine - and fits a certain type of situation, but not a situation that I find myself in all that much. It’s interesting how the first track introduces us - like never before - to Indian Music
Hmm… this is hard to really love. There are moments on here, but they are few
A struggle to listen to
It’s wonderful
It’s too proggy for me. No real catchy tunes
It’s pretty cool. Karen O might have listened to this before forming Yeah Yeah Yeahs
I love both Eno’s and Byrne’s work from other project before and after this, and I get the importance of the record. I don’t really enjoy this one though.
Yeah… I don’t know. Not really my jam
I love Alex Turner’s voice, his swagger and his sense for melody. This is pretty cool, but I feel there’s something missing. I can’t quite get excited about it even after three listens
Cool stuff - The Ska/Punk Beatles
Some bangers on here - I am generally not into hiphop, but this early stuff is the better choice for me. These guys are just friggin cool.
RIP Bob Weir This is a very nice album - I like the style and atmosphere
She has a great voice, but the music bores me and it’s way too honky tonky
Great record. I listened to this a lot back in the day. But I don’t know if it’s actually good? I’m biased
There is something about this, that really appeals to me. I haven’t listened to Devo that much before, but I think it’s pretty great
Hmm - it is definitely not as good as I had thought. I guess it’s some of his other stuff that’s good. It reminds me of Bruce Springsteen, Van Morrison or Bob Dylan, but the jam version
It’s quite alright - kind of a grungy/dark version of Sonic Youth and sometimes the Cure.
Didn’t need to listen to this. It’s too inconsistent
Horror rockabilly… it’s fine, but a bit too stressful for me.
It’s fine as background music I would say. It’s kind of a weird mix between crooning and honky tonk… like Sinatra and Elvis
Wonderful album - I like the vibe, just like her other album from this period, Folklore, which I might like a little better than this. The three collab songs on here are especially good
This was on heavy rotation in my late teen years back in the 90s - buuuut I don’t listen anymore - and he’s a creep, so let’s just leave it there.
I like the shoegaze elements but not the dream pop part of this. The problem is that I think the dream pop takes up most of the space. A song like Helicopter is just terrible to me. Some tracks remind me of weird solo John Lennon, which is not very fortunate.
Make it stop!!
It’s not really my thing but I can hear that it’s quality
It reminds me of Pink Floyd without David Gilmour’s guitar. I usually need that. But it’s actually pretty great anyway
Behind the psych and folky stuff, there’s this type of country I just don’t like. Sorry, but this record is not good
Hmm - I really only enjoy that last track, the mega hit Don’t You Want Me. The rest are just fine but nothing outstanding
I never really got into them - and apparantly I hear that this is not the record for it. It’s fine - it reminds me of REM and perhaps even Counting Crows. I’m intrigued and will go listen to their earlier stuff
Hmm - I Can see where they are headed, but they are not quite there yet. Plus, the lyrics are crazy
It’s not bad. I can hear the quality, but it is just so damn repetitive. I love the album cover
It’s definitely nice to listen to in the background while doing som office work - however, there are passages in some of the songs, where the sitar takes up too much space. Plus, I can’t really distinguish the tracks from one another. P.S. I heard that some band in the 60s heard some dude play the sitar in a movie studio, and then, later, the band tried to play the sitar on their own songs. Pretty cool story
I can hear how this band must have inspired a lot of other artists. I just don’t really like this record - It’s too messy and loud
Blast from the past. It’s good but there are other FF albums that are much better, but it’s impressive what Dave Grohl did on this album
I love this album. Furthermore, Peace Frog is one of my favourite The Doors songs. But come on… Roadhouse Blues, Waiting for the Sun, You Make Me Real, Ship of Fools, Queen of the Highway, Indian Summer. If you like the Doors you are in for a treat
I know that this is hailed as one of the greatest albums of all time. I can’t really tell. I guess it’s fine.
Artists should always be allowed to evolve… but I’m not on board with this.
I’ve always liked Indian/Pakistani music. This is fine - But I never listen to music like this “just because” though
This is definitely good. Take on Me is of course the best song on here, but there are other strong contenders, like The Sun Always Shines on TV, Love is Reason and Here I Stand the Rain. It’s Duran Duran without the obvious hit potential
Masterpiece
A great (maybe underrated?) Radiohead album. 2+2=5 is a great opener. Sail to the Moon is wonderful. Go to Sleep, There, There and Myxomatosis are great. I tend to gravitate towards those tracks that are more guitardriven.
Masterpiece
Some of it is fine, but there aren’t really any catchy songs. Plus, I don’t need more than one hour of this
This is really good. Terrible to read about the aftermath
This is pretty awesome
I love it
I’m not too sure about this. I like the hits, but it’s not really my favourite genre
Nirvana, Fugazi, Sonic Youth…. They all did it better. The songs on here are too long and it’s hard to digest. I thought I liked track three but found out that it was either the end of track two, or the beginning or middle of track three. Definitely not the last part of track three
It gets better after a few listens. I Think I’m going to put it on now and then. I like the idea of writimg each song as a counterpart to Exile on Main Street
The hits are fine, but I just can’t take it, when the music repeats itself for so long
It gets better towards the end. It’s almost as if Nick Cave came to visit the studio. I like the track Pale and Skinny Girl, Jenny, Western Sky and Highway 5
Masterpiece
Album cover 10/10 Music: 6/10 It’s pretty good, actually. Rocky Music and Brian Ferry are an aquired taste, but there’s something pretty good about this album. It’s not as weird as some of the other albums, and more rock oriented.
How many times have you listened to this?
This is great - I love Morrissey’s whiny character and lyrics… Not his very unfortunate comments throughout the years. The songs are great, but sometimes I really miss that Johny Marr jangling guitar on here, though
It reminds me of music I like. But it lacks that real quality and catchy elements
The sound is not good. It’s clear that it is live, though. I’m not really sure, what I think about it. I guess I understand why people enjoyed this back in the day. They might have found it dangerous and cool. It’s neither good nor bad. It’s just there
It’s okay. I don’t think I will go back and listen again, though. Where are they now? Is this really one of the most important records of all time?
Guilty pleasure. It’s fun, dumb and energetic. RIP Sam Rivers Limp Bizkit and Fred Durst are falsely accused of being the main reason everything went nuts at the Woodstock festival. Look at the 2021 documentary Woodstock ‘99: Peace, Love, and Rage which gives a more nuanced view of the situation compared to the Netflix doc “Trainwreck” which almost solely accuses Fred Durst and the band.
Of all the hardcore punk bands, this would be the one that I like the most. The melodies and catchiness is actually pretty good on this
I would have preferred shorter songs. This type of music does not benefit from being dragged through the theater type of genre
It’s good - nothing really stands out here, though. There comes a time when I have to turn it off, as the reaggae style gets too tedious
This is pretty great! But I would have preferred it to end just before Across the Wire. It’s too long
This is some weird shit. But still pretty good. I guess it’s supposed to resemble a movie soundtrack. That actually works
A great album - one of their best
Wonderful voice and production. But jeeezz this is boring
This is amazing
I really don’t think that this album belongs in the book. The music is fine, but why not just have one album in the book? Three albums by Kings of Leon are at least two too many
They are good at singing songs that are well produced. That is all
It’s a little too weird but overall it’s a little better than what I had thought beforehand. I’ve always stayed away from this because of the name, cover and countless inclusions on terrible compilations from TV shopping commercials
West coast dad rock at its finest
Funky and cool - but it gets repetitive at some points. I really enjoy the short funky songs the most. I could have lived without the rest of the album
It’s a nice listen. It definitely fits with a nice, relaxing dinner.
Hmm - I know why it’s in the book. But it’s definitely not very good
It’s fine - I’m not really into this type of music though, but there is an old school charm on here, that I can appreciate
Some great tunes on here but there are also many over-the-top songs
Yes please
I actually appreciate the song Beautiful, and perhaps Fighter might work in certain situations, plus Dirrty is fun because of Redman. Other than that it’s a pass for me
This is not really doing it for me - It’s close to being good though
This is great
It’s a nice listen. I was dreading this, as I am experiencing 1967 fatigue after starting to listen to all these albums from the book. But it’s a nice record that I probably will revisit
This is so great
It’s good. The musicians are great, I like to listen to it all, but it’s not something I would put on regularly
I think I was expecting some sort of annoying electronica. Luckily I was pleasantly surprised, because there was very little of that. Overall this was definitely a nice listen. I guess the track No Sympathy, which is the most electronic, is my least favourite but it starts out really strong
This is very nice. I was listening while walking around London at night
I think I’m going to call someone, then have them let me wait, while I, at the same time, walk around the city. All jokes aside - Street Life is awesome but the rest is mediocre
It’s okay - although the musicians are good, the singing gets too stressful
I’m definitely not into honky tonk and classic country. I like dark country, Johnny Cash and some Willie Nelson. But if I had to pick a honky tonk album to listen to, it would be this
I’m not sure about this. I doubt that it’s something that I will really enjoy
It’s pretty cool.
I do not like this type of country
It’s catchy and fun - but it doesn’t sound like something from 1998 at all. Maybe if they had released it ten years earlier or ten years later it would have made sense
Terrible - like Corey Feldman or Nick Jonas playing a “guitarsolo” for 40 minutes
So great - not on par with the two previous albums (5/5), but still great. Sara is amazing
One of my most listened to albums from that era. I still enjoy this from time to time - I have to give it 5/5.
I’ve never heard of this artist. This is pretty good and feels both classic and timeless
Weirdly enjoyable - a mix between psychedelic and east coast mellow rock. I like it
There are some great hits on here. I enjoy them whenever they are on the radio. The overall genre on the album is definitely not my jam, so I wouldn’t put this on anytime soon though
A nice pop record - it all feels well known, even though I’ve only heard the hits before
I was surprised - positively. I thought it would be some sort of upbeat annoying electronica, but it was a collection of nice dreamy pop. There’s nothing that stands out on the record, though, so it’s not necessarily something I’m going to revisit
One of the big ones… that I’m listening to for the first time. It’s fine actually. But I could live without it
This is pretty good, and I don’t like this type of country - Dolly is a legend
Hard pass
This is actually pretty good. His voice is really good on here - and Maggie May is a banger, but there are actually other songs just as good on here
Pleasantly surprised - very nice album to have playing in the background
I’m underwhelmed. I heard from people that this was great. Not to me though
I like it - but it’s not a strong as the other three albums I’ve listened to from the book, Sister, Goo and Daydream Nation.
It’s pretty good. It’s nice to hear some French for a change. I love the jazzy vibe
Amazing - but they will get even better
I’m not into this drum and bass thing
This is what I wrote about Bayou Country: I just really like CCR - both Fogerty’s voice and the atmosphere that the music brings. There are some fillers on here, but most of the songs are great. I would write the same about this album. Bad moon rising is a banger though, and this album doesn’t have those cover songs so it might be the better of the two albums
This album is much better than their “Not in Love” hit. Is it dad rock or Prog rock?
I know people praise this - I just can’t stand this type of soft, buttery music. It bores me
Rolling Stones light or even The Stooges? What? Is that Elvis? It’s an okay album actually
Duran Duran, is that you?
Yes
It should never have started out with such a long intro - but after those 6-7 minutes it actually gets pretty cool. I will say, though, that I need a break before the end of the record. But two listening sessions make it work
I have tried so many times over so many years. Hip hop is not for me
It’s okay - I really like the African vibe, but could have lived without all the blues mixed into the songs
I am not into hip hop and rap. But what Kanye does with the genre is amazing. There are are a couple of great tracks on this, but for a non hip hop fan, there are a couple of his other albums that I enjoy more - oh btw I have to rate it for the music and not his terrible, sick persona
Pretty good, buuut also kind of boring at times. He’s very talented though. There are definitely better albums in his discography
Incredible
Two hours? It’s just too much. I can handle this in small doses. One or two tracks per day
Did this album really have to be on the list? Oh well… The album is actually decent with five pretty big hits, but I don’t think I would put this on again anytime soon. The hits are good and fit on a U2 greatest hits playlist to play for the kids
Greatest hits playlist from my youth
Congratulations on being experimental
Not for me
Yes
Yeah… so, this is not really the Björk I like. But respect to her for doing this
This was a nice surprise - I totally forgot about this band. It’s pretty good
Yes
I’m not into hip hop. I’ve tried so many times, but it just does not move me in any Way. I like his voice on here - it’s pretty cool.
Yet another one of those late 60s albums. This one is fine but nothing stands out or is memorable
I’m not into hip hop. I guess this I good?
Pretty cool. I usually listen to the studio albums though
Pretty awesome. A nice mix between rockabilly and shoegaze
Amazing
It’s fine - but I would prefer all the songs to have that guitar from the track Night Train
Masterpiece
I get Paul McCartney vibes… is it only because of the voice? I don’t know. But it’s fine/boring
I am almost 730 albums into my listening project. I never really listened to Frank Zappa or the Mothers before. This is definitely interesting but perhaps not something I would put on again anytime soon.
Amazing
Love it
I know that I shouldn’t like Eric Clapton because of his terrible remarks about black people and because of the fact that his guitar playing is stolen from true blues musicians. But I still like the music and the vibe. I can play his records on used vinyl. That way I don’t contribute to his economy
Not as accessible as some of her other albums. It takes some time to get used to, but my experience is, that after a handful of listens, it gets so much better
This is wonderful - makes me wanna play Fallout… and Red Dead Redemption
It’s not really my jam
An album with a handful of very nice songs. I had heard Cars are Cars before, but I had never heard about the actual album. Allergies is not a good opener, but after that the songs get better
Awesome!
Fantastic classic album. Fell on Black Days is such an amazing song. Chris Cornell might have had the greatest hard rock voice of all time.
Do you have ears and a heart? I do - so we all love this. It starts out strong, but I could have lived without songs like Head over Heels, I Let the Music Speak and btw: the bass player for ABBA, Rutger Gunnarsson, is a beast
I guess it’s fine. Very middle of the road. Nothing really stands out or makes me want to listen again
It reminds me of the music I would skip when I was a rebelling teenager. But I’m a responsible man in the middle of my fourties now, so it’s kind of nice to listen to. Buuuut I am not able to listen throughout without the need to listen to something with an edge. This really does not have any edges
Fairy jazz in the Icelandic forrest. I respect what she has done with this album, but I just cannot listen to it all in one sitting. It’s too experimental and lacks the structure of music that I am used to. I have no problem going back to her albums, Debut and Post - they are more up my alley
It’s perfectly fine - I like his voice and the music is also good. But I struggle to find the thing that really hooks me. Maybe we could have skipped this one from Elvis Costello - there are already other Costello albums in the book.
Yeah… I get it. It’s pioneering and groundbreaking. But listening today might not really do it justice. It sounds very outdated. I like the Kraftwerk inclusion and Who You Funkin’ With which is more like Run DMC
Fourth masterpiece in a row for Sabbath
Weird shit
Classic album full of big ones.
Yeah, yeah, yeaaaahh. It would probably be fitting to listen in the car on a drive with friends to the keg party.
Pretty good. Of course, Jeff Beck’s guitar playing is crazy good, and it’s an interesting fact that Ronnie Wood is also part of this, but I actually really enjoyed Rod Stewart’s voice. Maybe not so much the lyrics though
Pretty cool. Might be as cool as The Rolling Stones - Rod Stewart definitely had the better voice
It’s nice. Nothing that really blows me away though. Actually there are more than a few weird tracks on here that I could live without. Armistice Day is the stand out track for me - positively
