This Is Hardcore
PulpThis is really good - I totally forgot about how good it is, and definitely almost on par with Different Class. There is a touch of Bowie in the songs, which I really like
This is really good - I totally forgot about how good it is, and definitely almost on par with Different Class. There is a touch of Bowie in the songs, which I really like
Positive. Great voice. Great mood - many track would be good for an after party or early morning
Loooong - but still beautiful. Some great tracks throughout. But it can be difficult to stay focused for the entire album.
Pretty solid - full of easy, listenable dadrock tunes
Certainly a good album, but I am not as overwhelmed by this as some of his other albums. Stand out tracks are no. 4,6 and 9. The other songs are generally too slow for my taste
Perfect
Pretty good - reminds me a bit of Rush (or... it's the other way around)
You could argue that this album can cure a bloated stomach, a headache or back pain… but apparantly not if your spouse is older than 35 yrs. Thus only 4/5
You can’t deny the quality here, but it’s not my cup of tea
So many fantastic songs. Prince was such an amazing artist
Yeah… no… this is not for me. It’s not that they are bad at what they do, but to me, this is very uninteresting.
Very nice album - Quiet and beautiful
Amazing - I was immediately impressed and intrigued by this.
Fairly good. It seems more fun and joyous than some of the other British punk bands from that era
The good songs are GOOD, but there are definitely also some fillers on here
This is fairly good. There are, however, a few forgettable songs on here also.
Country is generally not my jam. Neither is this album, but some of the tracks are actually nice to listen to, if I’m on my daily walk in the nearby rural area. Emmylou Harris is amazing on the songs
Hmm… props to his voice, the produktion and all the collaborations. But it’s not at all my favourite style of music.
Party till the break of dawn. Fun album, but there are better albums to come from BB. I can’t wait
This is a wonderful album full of amazing songs
I appreciate the fact that this is an important release in music history, but I am not too fond of the genre
I love this album - a real classic! Not their best album though.
This was a real fun listen. You can hear they all have a really good time. Sam Cooke’s voice is great and legendary
Barrgh… this is too repetitive for my taste
I fahking love it
First time listen. I was afraid of certain types of dad rock, like for example Steely Dan, when I was younger, so I never got to sit down and listen to this. But this is really, really good - I am happy I listened to it, and I am going to return to this again!
Good times… that song is just too damn long, and for me, it’s the best song on the album. Of all the songs on the album, I prefer the most upbeat ones. But generally, I really do not like this type of disco. I wanted to skip so many songs, but fought through the pain. I lile the bass lines and guitar work though.
Too repetitive - and I don’t live through chemistry. I need some more lyrics to reel me in. When the guitar or the piano jumps in, I enjoy the songs on here a little more. But I could never put this record on again
Great surprise - It’s something else than it’s cover art… although in itself that is a great cover. The music is groovy, fun, well played and just a great soundtrack for so many occasions!
This is a strange mixture of everything. I was positively surprised after the first half of the album, but when A Gospel hit, I was not impressed with that and the rest of the album - in general, the album is just too many genres to cope with at once.
It’s pretty good - It’s not something that I would put on again, as I am not into this genre, but it does make me feel good though.
I love and laugh at Morrissey’s lyrics and self pity. But I miss Johnny Marr’s jangling guitar and melodies on this one. Morrissey solo is just not on par with The Smiths, which to me is perfection
Stone cold classic - This was a huge part of my teenage life growing up! I could listen to this album on repeat. So many great songs.
This is not for me. It does not invade my heart.
It’s fine. I actually like blues, but this gets repetitive at some point. The three last songs are the most interesting because he is on his own Props to Bonnie Raitt. Her voice is amazing
This is a great album full of wonderful little songs. Plus, it has one of the best songs ever on here: Father and Son
There are so many good songs on here, and I had actually forgotten many of them for many years until I re-listened today. It gets a little repetitive for my taste, but definitely not as much as Fatboy Slim. The last handful of tracks are real nice surprises
This is sort of okay - I would like to know why this belongs in the book before many other 2018 releases.
This is really good - I totally forgot about how good it is, and definitely almost on par with Different Class. There is a touch of Bowie in the songs, which I really like
I was positivest surprised. I had never heard this album, but it is damn good!
There are some real classic hits on here - but it’s front loaded, and I get a little bored towards the end of the album
If you like Van Morrison, it’s hard not to like this album. I enjoyed it
Pretty cool - and I understand it’s cultural and musical importance. I am more of a post punk guy though
I wanna visit dusty old bars and drink beer. This album is cool as fuck 1970 was an insane year in music.
Hmm - starts out as one thing, and ends up sounding totally different. It’s okay but nothing more - and definitely not as interesting as other 80’s pop bands from Britain
I like the hits - and a few other songs on here, like The Beast. But generally I’m not into hip hop. I think they should have left out all the skits between the songs. It adds nothing positive, and it works much better on Queens of the Stone Age’s Songs for the Deaf, where it’s supposed to be from a radio
Amazing album
Hmm… I don’t know about this. It’s not really my jam
It’s “okay” for me. But it’s kind of like a watered down version of music that I enjoy much more. I don’t agree that this is something I need to hear before I die
I am thoroughly and positively suprised. I knew some of Willie’s hits, but I’ve never listened to any of his albums besides Stardust. I really liked this one - I totally understand why Willie Nelson is such a respected artist and legend. This is an album that I will put on again.
I not all that into this kind of music. I enjoyed some of Daler Mehndi’s crazy songs back in the late 90’s, but I’m not young and drunk all the time anymore, so I never put on music from India
Makes me want to sit on a porch and drink beer in my rocking chair.
I love Portishead’s Dummy and selftitled album from 1997 - I never really got into this at the time of its release. It’s good, but not totally on par with the two mentioned albums.
This is just an amazing album, and Elliott Smith was such a talented artist
I’ve never really listened to PJ Harvey… which, based on this album, is a real shame. I’m happy to have listened to this
This is a really great album - I enjoy this very much, and this album is my favourite from Arcade Fire
I listened to the hits all the time back in the day. When I listened today, it was fun to hear the rest of the songs, which I never really listened to back then. As always, I think it gets a little repetitive
If you don’t love this album, you have a heart of stone. It is such a great classic
It’s like The Beatles but bad…
It’s okay - definitely not as good as the ones I really like by New Order. I think this record needs a little more punch and bite. I guess I’m more of a Joy Division/early New Order kind of guy
Pretty good - not my favourite Blur album. But there is a handful of good songs that I really enjoy. They are more experimental here than earlier
This took me by surprise. The mix between cultural genres is pretty good. I had never heard of the artist before, so it is nice to be exposed to new music when it is this positive
It was quite enjoyable - I had never heard much from Peter Gabriel outside his biggest hits. He’s very playful and takes us around the world
Wow - so many hits. Eminem was everywhere in the early 2000s - and it is understandable. Both the hits and the rest of the songs on here are so catchy - I really like his rapping/rhyming style, and the production is just amazing, but the skits in between are a little too much. I could live without his singing in Marshall Marhers, and I din’t really like Drug Ballad and Kim. Time has not been kind to many of his lyrics on this record. It was a different time”.
I just really like CCR - both Fogerty’s voice and the atmosphere that the music brings. There are some fillers on here, but most of the songs are great
Amazing album. Post punk is one of my favourite genres, and you can hear on this album, that this is where we’re headed. I really enjoyed listening to this. For some reason I had only heard The Light Pours Out of Me before, but the rest of the album is just as great. The music reminds me of Television.
One of my favourite The Cure albums. This is just beautiful
From track two to finish, this is just great! I love listening to this in the morning
Not for me - but it doesn’t hurt me either. Sweet Like a Champion is actually a good song. It’s unfortunate that many of the newer albums in this book are by bands/artists that few have even heard of - they failed to make a real impact over the years, so I guess we could live without listening to these (obscure) artists.
It’s good. But I think there are too many of the sugary sweet songs on here - I need more of the real funky shit
This is so fantastic - from start to finish. One of my favourite Dylan albums, although I have a good handful of massive favourites of his.
I think this might be my favourite album of the ones I’ve been introduced to in this process of listening to all 1001 albums. I don’t think I have heard any Pavement songs in my life before this, but it’s amazing. I really enjoy this style of music. I can hear both Pixies and Arcade Fire in this. So it’s kind of a middle thing between the two bands, which is just perfect.
It’s great to hear this concert and experience how real blues sounds like.
A very nice and smooth listen - the album fits with a quiet evening
This must be my favourite of Wonder’s albums - there are so many great songs on here and it doesn’t feel like a double album
Love the songs - and the cover picture 😃
I just don’t like this kind of music with its repetitiveness
Pretty cool - I’m definitely going to listen to this again. I’m a fan of the minimalism
This is my favourite Stones album - although their run of albums from the late 60’s to early 70’s all make good candidates. There are some songs on here that remind me a little of Guns N Roses on their Use Your Illusion I - I know, controversial
A classic that I’ve listened to many times as a young boy. All songs are pretty good, but there are better Springsteen albums out there. However, this is a very important album in music history
I have to give this a 2/5. I kind of like to listen to it for short periode of time, but it’s too long, and I have to choose the correct situation to enjoy it in.
My favourite Doors album - at least most of the time. You can hear Jim Morrison’s demise, but at the same time, the songs on here are just awesome. L.A. Woman is probably my favourite Doors song
It’s pretty good. It’s The Talking Heads’, Simple Minds’s and New Order’s little brother aspiring to achieve the same quality, but not quite there yet. Do I also hear some Bowie hiding?
It’s okay. I can hear where Duran Duran got their inspiration - but I think this album lacks an edge
It’s difficult to know how the reception of this album would have been if he hadn’t died just after the release. I think that there are some good songs on here, but overall it’s too messy for me to really enjoy. The songs that stand out are Lazarus, Dollar Days and I Can’t Give Everything Away
There are a handful of great, classic songs on here. It’s hard to follow up Thriller, though. But that’s not this album’s fault.
Meh - waste of my time. I could have easily lived without this. And it’s not like I can hear newer music out there that’s been inspired by specifically this album rather than other albums from either before or the same time as this. Could it be that Dy-Na-Mi-Tee was a single. I think I heard it before. It’s okay
It’s better than I thought it would be, but I thought it would be terrible. It is within the range of rap/hip hop that I like, but I like it when the artist rhymes at a real high level - Ice-T could be better
Wonderful album from start to finish. One of the best bands from post 2000, and one of my three favourite Arcade Fire albums
Production wise this sounds great, but the music has me on the verge of boredom.
It’s okay, but nothing more. I understand that it is interesting to see what McCartney was up to after The Beatles. He could have done better - his solo stuff is better IMO. The last song on this album is the best
This is great - very catchy and fun
It’s fine - but not something I would put on again.
There are a couple of good songs on here. I really like the Stones cover and Freedom. Some of the other ones are also good, but generally this is just not something I would choose to listen to. I get the feeling that George Michael’s style is so different from anything else
This is just weird… no thank you to most of it. - maybe it was very special back then, and that’s why it is historically important. The guitar playing om The Sage is nice though
I really like this. I never heard much of Willie Nelson’s but I have listened to this from time to time over the years. He really knows how to do covers of songs
Pretty good. I will definitely listen to this again in the future. It’s very 1967, but that’s fine by me.
This is weird - but still kind of funny. I can’t decide if he’s just joking, or if he’s serious though. I reminds me of Ross from Friends playing on his keyboard
Musically, this is good. But the language barrier brings it down for me
There are a couple of good songs on here. Jaco Pastorius really shines. But in general, it’s all just too much
Well… this is basically just a mixture of sounds made by a man who never credited the people he stole from. It sounds good but it’s just all over the place
Beautiful work of art. Is it soft post punk? I really like it from start to finish.
Lovely tapestry for a sunday morning. Buuuut there are passages in each track that are a little too uninteresting, though
It’s okay - but I didn’t think that there were real standout tracks. Perhaps My October Symphony is one of those. To me, there are better PSB albums out there
This is great - you really get the feeling that you’re there experiencing the show - Johnny Cash was so good at connecting with the crowd
It was almost over before it even started. Wow - James Brown and his musicians were just on fire. Very enjoyable
Wow - this is the first time I’ve listened to this. I had to listen to it again straight away. It’s just amazing - I never knew I loved The Black Keys.
It’s okay - but I've heard music in the same genre, that - to me - is more catchy. But I am intrigued and would like to delve more into this bands discography
This is not very good. It it, however, very, very weird
This is such a great album and, naturally, the one that got me into listening to Neil Young.
It’s quite alright. It’s kind of the same as much of what also was around at that time - I just not as good - but maybe a few more listens will do the trick
Not really my jam…
This is just wonderful - a breeze to listen to
Boring and tiresome for the most part. Sometimes the pace picks up, but it’s just weird for my ears. I’ve never heard of the band so they must not have left
I really like this. I know how important Eno is, and it’s easy to understand why - not only based on this album. But there is so much on here, that I can hear has inspired other musicians
If I had listened to this for the first time today, I might not have liked it as much as I do. I’ve listened to this many times earlier in my life, so it’s an important album to me, but I understand that it might be a little too much/strange/all over the place
I really like this - there’s a good mix between different types of songs, and Jack White’s voice and guitar playing is just awesome. I miss Meg White’s drumming, but love the variety in songs because Jack White is calling the shots.
I did not enjoy this at all…
I can see why this is relevant and important in music history, and there are definitely also some good songs on here, but I did not enjoy it as much as other post punk/pre grunge albums.
It’s quite good - I’m sorry to say that I find this mix between reggae and new wave more interesting than most original reggae I’ve heard in the past.
Well… I’ve listened to this countless times back when it was released - and I do still like the hits, and songs like “One of God’s Better People” but the album takes forever to really get going. And it’s really dated. You can hear that it’s a pop record from 1997.
It’s okay. It’s a good mix between The Beatles, Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones and other big names from back then. It’s never as good as those other bands - The Kinks are just more “middle of the road”. Best tracks: House in the Country, Sunny Afternoon and I’ll Remember. So it’s better towards the end.
Tapestry for my youth. I still enjoy it whenever I put it on as a 44 year old
This is a great album. There are no bad songs, and I like this type of punk. It’s not too dirty or fast paced
Musically it’s pretty good. But most of the lyrics seem to be written by a horny teenager… it’s dumb. And there’s just something a little off about the entire album, I feel. Nighthawkin’? That did not age well, did it?
This was hard for me to listen to.
Good ol’ OG blues
This book might be a little too stuffed with albums and bands like this. This album is, however, pretty good. But I might have some folky, psychedelic, jazzy music fatigue. The album is only 34 minutes long, but somehow it feels longer? 3/5
This is just a wonderful record - It doesn’t really feel outdated, and if I didn’t know, I would have never guessed 1989. (Well, maybe apart from the lyrics on for example Deeper Understanding) The more I listen to it, the better it gets… and it doesn’t hurt that David Gilmour makes a guest appearance
This is just terrible and to the brink of annoying to listen to. Not my jam
Yet another post 2000 record from this book, that I just do not like. What’s wrong with me? …or the editors of the book?
It’s okay. Not something I needed to hear before I died. It’s way too long
This is pretty great - one of my favourite Roxy Music albums
This is great album from start to finish. Not my favourite by Bowie. I’m more into his Stardust period. But still… this is just great
I need to listen to The Hives a little more. It’s fun and catchy. I just don’t understand why the book adds this compilation instead of one or two of their studio albums
It’s okay - to me it’s just on par with Greetings from L.A. although I enjoyed that one more musically (not lyrically) But I’m generally not a fan of Tim Buckley I’m not sure I am going to listen to this many more times in my life.
Too much of the same thing. It gets boring very quickly. And oh my God! why does the album have to be so long?
This is a classic. I love the catchy melodies and beats. But most of all I love Snoop’s style… but not so much the lyrics - they are, as many hip hop lyrics from back then, very outdated. But late 80’s early 90’s hip hop is just amazing
Very good classic, but it’s too long. Hip hop and rap are not my favourite genres, so I get tired of it after a while - It’s an important album with an important message. Politically charged rap and hip hop will always be better than gangsta rap to me.
This is not nearly as good as their debut. The style here is too weird and not that catchy compared to the previous album. But still… it’s eighties Music from GB. Gotta love it
This was a nice, cozy surprise. It might not be the most inspiring or groundbreaking, but it is just good music, very well produced and performed.
I guess it’s pretty good. I am not the biggest hip hop fan so it has to be really good to catch my attention. There are definitely some catchy moments on here. And her rapping is crazy good, but I quickly get bored. The Rain is really good though
Awesome psychedlic gem
Amazing record. I always fall into a comfortable place when I listen to this
This is just one of those records that means so much to me, and it will always be an important part of my life
This is great - Musically, I can hear Rolling Stones all over the record, but more punky and fun. It feels like a live record, which I really love.
This is weird, boring and pretentious. Not for me
Hmm - There are three good songs in the beginning of the album and then the rest is just not very interesting. One World is okay though and the title track is actually pretty great also
It’s fairly good - but I am more of a rock person, so I normally wouldn’t put this on voluntarily. But I’m glad I listened to it. It’s just too long! I prefer albums to be around 40 minutes. Not more than one hour
I like punk, but to be honest I’m not too fond of the very fast punk like this. But I did bob my head and tap my feet listening to this record though.
Nick Drake was an amazing artist - this album is great, but I like his other two albums better. There’s too much production going on here. Poor Boy is too jazzy for it’s own good compared to the other songs. But there are still some amazing gems on the album.
Musically/hook wise/Biggie’s rapping abilities: amazing Lyrically/content: I’m too old for this kind of thing Skits: dumb/unnecessary It’s terrible to think about what might have been going on in the background with P.Diddy pulling the strings
This is pretty cool. I really enjoy these post punk albums. The bass on here is great and drives the melody forward. But I’m not completely won over compared to for example Joy Division, Television, or Magazine. I don’t really know what it is - but I am still really happy that I was introduced to this, and I am going to listen many more times, that’s for sure
23 tracks in less than an hour… is this speed punk? Well it’s quite okay to listen to, but it’s not my cup of tea - unfortunately it reminds me of waiting in line on the telephone. It’s only when Wiz Khalifa or Kendrick Lamar contributes, that I remember that I don’t need a doctor’s appointment.
Amazing! For the most part - the saxophone can get a little crazy sometimes, but in general, this is just great music with a great vibe
I’ve always loved Slipknot. The mix between metal, pop, hip hop, industrial, groove and everything in between is just great. This album is by far not my favourite by them, but I still enjoy it. Joey Jordinson on drums is simply incredible and can’t be denied
Yes… The Beach Boys are an important part of musical history, and it only takes one second to know that it’s them when you turn on a song. That doesn’t make everything they made, good music. Help me Rhonda is good though… perhaps because of the nostalgia that hits me when I listen to the early Beach Boys songs. And a song like Kiss Me, Baby has that beautiful vocal arrangement that we also hear a lot on Pet Sounds This album is not the Beach Boys I like. Pet Sounds is where it’s at! And that’s more like “Brian Wilson ft. the Beach Boys.” But this is still fun to listen to, but the lyrics… oh my God they are terrible
Wonderful and beautiful music
This is a wonderful album
Might be the best hair metal band/albums of the 80s. I think they are massively underrated
I listened to this album to death back in the day. It’s so nostalgic for me. But it’s their debut, that really stands out in my book. That one is a genuine masterpiece. This is not up there, but still very enjoyable
I don’t really like this type of music. I get bored easily by this - Yes, I know the massive hit Smooth Operator, and I noticed that she was a huge star when I was I kid, but it’s just not for me. The quality of the music and her voice is undeniable though
Yeah, we get it. He almost got killed. I have never liked the 90s gangster rap and hip hop - It’s just too far from my reality. Tupac was a real asshole - read up on it. He was a rapist, was violent and a murderer… maybe people should stop idolizing him I am not into the hip hop genre, so that doesn’t help either
It’s okay. I’m not really into this genre. I do remember, though, that I really loved her later album The Velvet Rope, so hopefully that album is included in this 1001 book. But this style is just not for me
This is great - I like Iggy the best when he’s David Bowie. I’m not sure China Girl would pass today, but it’s the best song on the album
I’ve spent many years trying to get into The Rolling Stones. I knew many of their hits, and liked them. Suddenly a handful of years ago, I sat down and listened to this album. When I did, and Gimme Shelter started, it clicked. That song is an absolute masterpiece, and I began to appreciate the band more. There are, though, a little too many honky tonk songs on this album for my taste. This album is one of my favourites by the band though, but Sticky Fingers is the one that hits it home
Pretty good stuff. It’s nice to listen to on a quiet morning while getting ready to do very little. Perhaps put on a checkered flannel shirt and grow a beard… drink a flat white
I get tired of it quite fast. It might be the lyrics that are almost obnoxious - same with the vocals
I love this album - lots of great, catchy songs.
It’s okay, I guess - for some people. I got stressed out from listening to this. It’s all over the place.
Oh dear… this is just terrible in my ears. It starts okay, but as it progresses, it just gets worse and worse.
Asshole
Unmistakenly Beck! It’s pretty good. Especially Girl, Black Tambourine, . Buuut 54 minutes of this gets a little too much at a time for my taste. I don’t really get why I have to listen to this before I die. There are definitely other Beck albums that fit that bill much better: Mellow Gold, Odelay or Midnite Vultures. Even Morning Phase.
This is an awesome album. The sound is insanely recognisable and I just love the riffs and the drum work!!
