They really abbeyed that road huh. Come Together is like the most overrated Beatles song I swear to god we did a 60’s music assignment and every group but mine played that stupid song holy crap. Tho back to the album, it’s a Beatles album so what more can you say, it’s an album which you can smile to but I’m def listening to it 55 years too late haha Fav song: here comes the Sun

i've given a listen the cure a few times over the course of the last few months, and this album is their weakest... not to say it's bad, just alot of the similar sound, and when it's the sort of the like rock-ambience sort of music this album has, it gets a bit too much into the background. However, the songs on individual listen ARE BEAUTIFUL it's so immersive in little pockets and would be a cool vinyl to own as something for a backing vibe. this music wouldn't be in anything pornographic tho... fav song : The Figurehead

This album is… interesting. I am sure that this album could have gone without being on the “1001 albums to listen to before you die”, as it’s not anything special from what I’ve heard from R.E.M. I had to give this album multiple repeeps to actually get a favourite because I like… forgot it. All I can remember from the album is the part where he says “monkey monkey monkey” LMAOOO. I really hope their other albums are better, esp with the 18 million monthly. Fav song: fireplace

When I heard the 12 bar blues in "I love your loving ways", I knew I was in for a TREAT. Which might be a good time to say that 12 bar blues are more of the time boring (expect when jazzheads do em <3), but when they be an album opener OOOOOOOOOOOO goodness how much do they cook. so yeah, what more can I say? beautiful brass lines on the songs which have em, the piano is just drop dead GORGEOUS OMMGGGGGGG she is such a talented pianist as well, esp climaxing on If I Should Lose You. Either Way I Lose is such a clever idea of having bass vocals doing... bass hahah. what a wonderful way of ending the album little issues having her vocals sometimes not really hitting it tonely but that's prob due to experience compared to her 70's stuff. def deserves to be on not only a top 1001 but a top 201 albums :D fav song: That's All I Ask

I can't understate how the post 2000's Shin Megami Tensei soundtracks / shoegaze has made me be able to appreciate this sorta music. When guitar go fuzzzz me be buzz. With that being said, that prob moved the album from like a 4/10 to a 6/10, because this sorta music ain't my style. The hits / the first half of this album are pretty decent tracks, but because of how popular this style of music has become, i've become very mellow to it, if they have more of an ambient-experimental album i would probably enjoy it more hmmm. Oh and something in the way was pretty cool as well. I can really see it's mass appeal for sure, it screams "teenage rebellion" or whatever Ben says it means haha. (also i was watching anime when listening to this (shoutout to RE:zero) and the episodes were pretty peak and it helped with the vibe so that might of helped) Fav: Come as You Are

This is a 2/5 because of "i'm not a fan of metal" rather then a "this is a below average album". For all merits, this is a FANTASTIC METAL album, everything from the dual metal vocals (which is just a staple in current metalcore sorta stuff), to that mmmmm bass and the drums are just all well done. It's just something I can't mesh with well, esp since playing metal over 30% volume gives me headaches. I do prefer their more melodic stuff over their intensity... so yeah, good job Slipknot. Fav song: Child of Burning Time

This album goes from good to shit to A DROP DEAD BEAUTY. The start of this album has a lot of cool instrumentation decisions in a unique way (prob cause it's mostly MIDI stuff), and I was excited for an album with that direction. No One Receiving whilst having weird but pretty cool intentional vocal choices made me ponder if this was just gonna be another one of those "albums" that seems to litter this 1001 albums (the rock albums with a lil quirky change in them), or something unique and not expected. Sadly over the first 7 songs, the album just drops down in quality, ending up me letting it be background noise, with Julie With being... not a good song at all. I was so tuned out. I had 4 songs to go. I didn't want to continue. I hear the start of By This River. I froze. The gentle piano melody grabs all my attention. The backing chimes help add so much ambience. His vocals come in. They work so well. The midi strings come in. It gives the piece such a melancholic feeling to it. I hate making this comparison, but it honestly reminds me of "Waterfall" and "Quiet Water" from the UNDERTALE ost. But I think this does the vibe SO SO SO much better. The rest of the album complimented By The River so well... it saved the album. I assume this was the part after Science, because did the album just resonate with me once finishing. This album reminds me of the Grand Canyon :) Fav song: By This River (did i even need to say)

It's an american blues rock album. It's alright, nothing too special and i liked the songs with piano which gave it a lil ragtimey feel but it just ain't my cuppa. would be fun in an american pub played live tho fav song: seeing things

I think this album best matches the vibes of the cover / name of it, it's just so smoooooth, Reggae has that just feeeels that come from the kinda swinging drums and beautiful vocals. I had to rate this album up a point on relisten because man is it just so well made. There's not a bad song on this whole album, just vibes, I think Maxi Priest is the reason why I'm a fan of this sorta style of stuff. Fav Song: No Sympathy

This is the most like... medieval a rock album can sound? It def gives the vibe of being from the early 1970's, as the effect pedals and the synth are super limited for the time, but they did do well for what they had on hands. Probably the most "above-average" album i've ever heard lmaooooo Fav Song: Child in Time

breakbeats are so delicious. i can't understand how goood this album is, even if it's sounds like sex music. i should probably check out more trip-hop if this is what it sounds like. tbf the album starts a lil weak but it gets SO GOOD BY THE END. fav song: aftermath (beep)

I feel like this album is very... corporation pop. It's super safe music, there a few songs on this album which given to someone for not the ideas of it being safe pop music, would the songs be like pretty fun. Would give Adele the chance for her to be able to showcase her works. This album would also be best heard live, it NEEDS those big speakers and width needed for it to shine. Fav Song: Send My Love

I actually listened to this album twice within the 24 hours, one in the afternoon on the train and one during midnight cruising home. It fits both vibes very well... it's a very fun album, an album to bop your head to! It's just a solid album through and through, however I'm not sure if I would listen to any of the songs in isolation. Fav song: Feelin'

Elvis Presley is a interesting artist, such a talented singer for the time and did bring the music industry lil more booming. however in personal taste, i'd rather listen to the original versions of the songs hmmmm. a true 5/10 fav song: money honey

It's good cruising music, the album has some very nice instrumentation in it, and has a nice vibe :D . I think the first half of the album is kinda boring but the 2nd half has alot more sauce. the slap bass do be slapppppinnggg yummmm. fav song: Train in the Distance

This album fits the name of the band SO WELL!!!!!! They ARE cowboy junkies. I just feel like I’m a saloon worker making food behind the counter and in the corner of my ears I just hear. This. Something I might put on if I’m ever out in the outback haha. The vocalists voice is just so soothing omg. Fav song: working on a building

When I opened this album up straight after reviewing the last album, gotta be honest. was a little disappointed. The first track SUCKS. however as the album goes on... it does get better. I do love the completely different styles, showcased in songs like "Close Behind", which gives like Video Game music vibes, like something out of Xenoblade, which gave me a little shock. Oh and when "The Book and the Canal" came on, WOOOOOOOAHHHHHH did it give me chills, such a beautiful piano and string section melody, would fit right into WALL-E. Could they PLEASE change the album cover please, that sucks so much. Trumpets are very sick tho.

This album is so long. I kinda get it, like, it’s an album from 1969 so why not do anything else haha, but this album just DRAAGGGSSSS ONNNNN. It feels like an elongated jam session, though honestly I prefer listening to alor of these tracks over like the Beatles LMAOOO. Fav song: Underture (even if some of the notes are so jwysuwokwhsua off key)

Overall, this is good album. I preferred the songs without the rock influence but it's just... so beautiful. Hope we get more albums like this :) Fav song: Endlessly

it's such a long album, especially for someone not into the beatles. i get why it's in here hahahaha, but man does this album drag so much in the 2nd half, by the end it just feels like a jam session lmao. it has some good tracks tho. fav song: my sweet lord

This is like my 5th time listening to this album in full... and I swear with every listen this album gets better. Just his voice alone is just powerful enough to give it a perfect rating, and to think it's just... this... from him. man. the world didn't deserve jeff buckley. fav song: grace

this album is kinda a blur. it's got so many ideas throughout each track, however, it's so BRITISH. laughing with my track at most songs at the different directions it was going through, has psych stuff to crooner stuff to just standard rock, to like the most british stuff ever. very fun album.

For a live album, this sounded pretty good, love how the name of the album was the place they performed the set. though it's rock music and it sounded a lot like a bunch other stuff i've heard recently.

I am a trumpet player. I play jazz as apart of a bunch of my college assessment tasks. Miles Davis is my favourite trumpet player (i know, basic pick for someone's who's played for 8 years now haha). Somehow i've never heard of this album before, so yeah. Brilliant. As soon as I saw it was a 2 track album I knew I was in for a delight. I love jazz fusion, and I never knew Davis did an Jazz Fusion album, though knowing his stuff from the 90's, why am I not surprised at all. Having Hancock and Corea on piano OOOOOOOOOOOOo just incredible stuff. Sadly don't know the other players on this album :( I need this on vinyl.

what a LOVELY swing band to grace my ears. Louis on vocals and trumpet was just such a nice and cheerful thing, and Keely on backing vocals was a nice duality. very simple but so rich in soundssss.

A Latin inspired album by a French guy. I’m sure there is some story about the most insane story whilst this album was playing, because the vibes are immaculate nom. Would love more live I think.

For an album to actively captivate me for the entire 2hr 15min, this album must mean… something. I didn’t even mind it being double length. Great samples, great drums, the rap flowed so well. Great product

I feel like this album is what I think IS 2000’s pop. Surprised there isn’t a hit on the album with the amount of solid tracks on here. Aguilera’s voice is also just mmmmmm so good

Oh I KNOW people gonna hate this album to pieces, don’t even need to look at the reviews to see that. Beautiful 90’s electronica with nice choice of sampling, great drums, and gets better with every song. I knew it would be a baller album when the “when time becomes a loop” bit played for 2 minutes in the nice stereo sound bit at the VERY START OF THE ALBUM. crazy producers like to do crazy things to almost gatekeep their albums from the folk who wouldnt like it haha.

i don't have much to say... it's just an album. Bob Dylan doesn't excite me nor bores me - he just exists and i listen and think nothing. 3/5 because it's in the middle.

One of my friends loves this album and ngl when I heard some songs from this it didnt click. But when I heard the full album I was pretty surprised at how much of a vibe this soft rock album has. Pretty good with its instrumentation and its ability to move away from “conventional stuff”.

Honestly surprised to learn this is an album from 2002 - this has such a mid 90’s style to it. Tho saying that, going off that era, this wasn’t special for the time so yeah. Enjoyable experience tho

This is my father’s favourite band and I get why. Super high level production with a mixture of jams and experimental synth work. Plus I love the bass, I use basses with almost the exact same sound.

The problem I’ve found with this 1001 is that gave me Illmatic FIRST, so every single hip hop album from the 90’s is instantly compared to that, and since that’s the goat, hard to beat. This was pretty good nevertheless, I did like the sampling more and more throughout the album, but nothing really rememberable.

hmmmm. i have to think that they weren't JUST in it for the money. my main issue with most 60's music is that i find it too bland, but this opens with just, idk how to describe noises, and that's awesome. not something i'd revisit but an album i'm glad to have listened to

Stevie Wonder is such a talent to the world. Whilst not his best album, this album is just… so insane. Every song oozes with charm and fun, it’s like you get transported to another world of just soul and vibes. I knew half the album also haha. Phenomenal listen on my morning commute

I didn’t know just changing the language to French makes 90’s hip hop like 20x cooler. It is a vibbbbeeeee with how his flow and the samples behind it are so simple yet effective.

What do I need to say about this album that hasn’t be said already?

I was half in doubt and half in interest when I told my father about this album prior to listen to it and he was like “OH THIS ALBUM IS AWESOME”. Turns out he was right. Damn. Awesome alt rock with insane production like it doesn’t have a bad track in it at all.

I can’t believe this is one of the biggest exports in the UK scene ??? Like really??? Not that I didn’t enjoy it a lil, but like it’s not that good of a rap album. The sampling is nice, some vocals but overall it just falls extremely flat

2 because it’s below average. The Beatles are influential, but it doesn’t means I particularly enjoy listening to them. Like it’s such an important part of musical history and that’s really my only enjoyment of this album.

I love the instrumentation in this - it’s so rich and I love whilst it’s a folk rock album, they’ve taken so much liberties in making it as genre fluid as they could for the time. Nice listening experience - wouldnt mind listening to it in the car.

Instrumentally I wouldnt rate this as high as I have - it’s just alright rock music. But since the rock isn’t that like impactful, I almost had to focus in on the lyrics, which was a shock to hear how powerful they are, always love an album talking about gender norms and breaking them. Note: I hadn’t listened to the last song before writing this - the last song is def the best one on the album. Love me my ragtime? music.

this is just not a 5 star album. what a masterclass of an album for the drum and bass scene in the 90's. whilst it's long length at a bit over 2 hours, it doesn't have a bad moment throughout it's whole listen. i love the genre - and have made some myself, so it's a cool listen to see what the "best" of the genre in the 90's was like. solid 9/10 album.

Middle of the road Beatles album, nothing too special from it compared to their white album or abbey road.

This album isn't the most exciting thing in the world - I feel like this is the sorta album that would be helped with nice rain ambience behind it. It did help with with my studies though - so i'll give it that.

I listened to this album with my mum, and she described it the best “If I was in the 60’s and at a bistro, this is the perfect music that would be playing behind all the banter”. Perfectly summed up, it’s nicely spaced and has enough interesting stuff to be like “oooh that was nice from x”

This is a fun album. Is it a good album? Not really, but it’s fun. The same drums and vocals are throughout this whole album and it’s almost like one 29 minute long song. Maybe id give it a 3 if I didn’t already listen to this album this year already, it’s not the sorta album to listen to more then once in your life

You can tell it’s their debut album cause it feels so raw and unpolished - but hey how awesome huh. I rate this album and it’s def above the pack for the era it dropped in.

Look, I love funk, but this kinda missed the mark. Not like bad missed the mark, it just doesn’t have that hook to it to make it be a proper special album. It has its fun moments but it really drags at times.

This is one of the worst albums i've heard so far - but not a one because those are reserved for the WORST things in existence. Terrible voice, most songs are boring but there was some nice moments in here overall, esp with the songs with strings in it.

Beautiful jazz from Ellington, 2 hours of just… nice solos and playing from the whole band.

I find with a lot of the entries from the 60’s I’m looking at them too much from a current perspective rather than a complete overlook of the album. Realistically I found this to be alright - nothing special, solid roots but nothing to make it pop. But, that’s just the time it’s being played in. If I was in the 60’s and there wasn’t too much else to obsess over, I wouldn’t mind.

what a revolutionary album for the time. it's very experimental and pushes the bounds of sampling and effects for the time. that's all the positives i can say for this album. it is far from properly listenable, i could not imagine listening to this album again without it giving me a headache haha. i see it more as a piece of art rather then like... actual music, even though there are songs which have the conventional music flow haha.

i was listening to this on headphones and was like "this isn't right". i moved it to my phone speakers and had a great time with it. it's such a chill album, great vibes, if companies hold music was at this level of quality i'd probably enjoy calling up companies 10 fold. i doubt this'll be something I well, ever return to, but it def had a hold on me hehe.

What have we got in this... country? ew. metal? can be tasteful SOMETIMES. some poser white guy? ew. i think this album is just not for me. Cowboy might JUST be the worst song i've ever heard I laughed so bad. I almost fell asleep listening to this album too so that's that too. I feel like this is for the people who think they can just start a band in their garage and expect it to blow up and them to get all the chicks and be living the life. nothing redeemable from it.

Out of I and IV that i've listened to so far, this is def the weakest one IMO. didn't grab me the same ways the others have so far. def cool parts and all. I do wonder though, what's the importance in listening to all 4 of them, it's not like they are too different from each other imo.

So so so indie, always interesting to get an album that i feel like defined what would be the sound of 2010's indie rock and stuff like that. The oldie influences are used kinda tastefully (which is insane cause i don't like most rock to come out in the 60's)

A lot of my friends really enjoy The Gorillaz... all I can say to them is. How? I'd rather the guy start a composing shtick and write some Y2K inspired Video Game Bangers rather then this bland ass album. There's some good ideas, but terribly executed with annoying vocals and just weird instrumentation choices. 19-2000 was def the main highlight of this album, but again; remove the vocals, and pop it into a video game (i'm thinking a gas station theme for a game like Simpsons: Hit and Run but yea). Shame cause it's the sorta music I would describe as I would fancy but it fails the mark so much.

When I think of Eminem all I think about is that millennials are so offended when someone doesn't think of him as like the king of rap lmao. He's like alright, his vocals are better then the beats he's rapping over, it's kinda sad how lamish the beats are at times... though it's def a good album, def a bit too long for just hearing Eminem's voice but it had The Real Slim Shady on it so really does my opinion matter?

easily the best prince album. has a good blend of poppy stuff, funky stuff, rocky stuff, and stuff just makes you want to disassociate from life (in a good way). plus who doesn't like purple rain the song? easily deserves it's praises even with a few half misses on the album.

this is the new meaning of grunge to me, get outta here soundgarden and nirvana. i feel like the genre kinda needed more energy and more intensity so it's crazy that it's gone the OTHER way. i do prefer soundgarden over this tho.

I had to sit on this review for a few days to really get my thoughts in on this album. It’s brilliant shoegaze, a genre which I personally have fallen in love with over the last few years, and especially this year when I listened to Loveless as the first album of my year. This doesn’t hit to the same highs as loveless, but the overall quality of the album easily makes it something I’ve already returned too. It’s more pop oriented rather then the average Shoegaze album, but it helps it rather then diminishes it. Plus the vocals being kinda washy and not that audible is actually amazing, an audio representation of how I listen to vocals in music.

This album is just beautiful. The one thing I just love about kate bush is it just sounds... always so interesting, she'll just take any and every reference of music she finds across the globe and fuse them together. Also running up that hill has been kinda saved on me, i'm sure i'd hate to listen to this if this was in 2022 haha.

shocked to hear that this isn't a motown album - it's got the vibes and everything (she prob did take it from black artists in retrospect). such a nice album to listen nevertheless, a bit of everything from the 60's

pretty cool to listen to new wave before it realllly blew up in the 80's. def an important album for the genre but since it's half a formative album it lacks that substance of it that the greats that followed it. good album tho!!!!

I was slightly disappointed by this - I guess I’m used to their 70’s stuff and was expecting more OOMF in their works - not to say it wasn’t bad at all - they had hits esp in the 2nd half that kinda redeemed the album.

really has this "oh we have this diy not polished punk sound" that my ears and soul doesn't like. isn't terrible but i'd be glad not to hear this again. the closest is really see through tho

Started off a little rough but then I realised it was an electronica album and that’s kinda half the point of it so I switched my mindset and by the end I was enjoying it a bit :) . Would be THE definition of the genre lmao

If ur going into any album and thinking it’s gonna be the worst album you’ve ever heard - well, anything excites you. I hate 60’s psych rock and I hate country music, so seeing this album was like a “oh. No.”. Surprised that they kinda complimented each other? Def a weaker album on the list for sure and it doesn’t help that it wasn’t on streaming so dealing with the pains on YouTube didnt help at ALL. A 4/10 can be awesome when u didnt think it could be that good

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL JAZZ ALBUM. this is like perfect background music, everything is just tasteful, all the songs just work and are so cohesive, and i love the moments where the band goes into just talk and chatter. really made me feel right at home

Very strong album instrumentally, I am such a sucker for synth heavy albums - which makes sense for a new wave album haha. I’m not too much of a fan of the vocal delivery but that’s a personal thing, it works

It’s a beautiful electronic pop album with just great vocals. Lorde undoubtedly deserves the attention she has received. Plus green light is just so iconic.

what a beautiful bluesy big band type album. Charles' voice is just... immaculate, and the songs with the huge string sections too just make my heart feel so fuzzy inside. A LITTLE too long tho, the same vibes for 75 mins sometimes rocks but if there was maybe 2-3 songs less this might be one of the greatest albums i've heard on here.

this is an album that made me laugh and that's NEVER a good thing if i want to think this album deserves to be on the list. It's not all bad but it's just super quirky.

Holy snoozefest, there’s maybe 2 good tracks over this 20 song run. It’s probably influential… somehow… so I kinda see why on the list this would be there.

Her vocals are the best part of this album, it really is the foundations to what she did become. A little bit disappointed that there wasn’t any special songs on here but the vibes are great

I didn’t think they’d be a longer album on this list than 69 love songs, but I guess I’m wrong haha. 6 CD’s worth of beautiful singing and standards from Ella, which sunk into the background quite nicely for myself. Due to its length it really started to drag on the 5th CD, but for what that’s worth it’s insane it took 2 hours for me to feel a bit fatigued.

It’s very 80’s, for its credit and its lack of like… uniqueness??? Nice listening experience and the vibes are cool but didnt really get too much special outta this

Hi I’m a band in the 60’s and we’re gonna be so quirky to name ourselves “The (blank)” because wee LOVEEEE the Beatles but Theres a hole in the market because those “losers” have made more experimental music so we’re gonna make the same slop as they did just… 5 years later. I don’t really like this type of music it’s just at least with the Beatles that they are special cause they created this vibe, and these guys didnt.

I saw talking heads and thought “oh yeah this’ll be a good album - I know a few of their hits” and this just kinda disappointed me cause theres just nothing of substance to this album - maybe I’m just looking into it wrong tho.

What a generational album. Crazy that this is just straight vibes throughout the hour run, it def sat a great groundwork for everything that came after in the hip hop scene. I don’t agree with a lot of lyricism in, made me a lil like… oh. Great album nevertheless

A beautiful dance / electronic album. Has a little rocky start but as soon as Porcelain hits. Wow. Spectacular stuff. Sampling is nice and very tastefully used with great synths and strings. What isn’t there to like?

it's a good rock band which has a solid list of tracks that are neat if i got stuck in a car with but not anywhere else. sometimes i feel like there's too many of these "forgettable but good" rock albums on the list, which kinda sucks for it being a list about tryna be dirverse.

This might be one of the best albums I’ve never heard of from the list. Beautiful and dreamy electronica pop and it’s such a vibe with the Cocteau Twins style vocals :)

It’s opening to the local band you kinda wanna see but half was dragged by a friend core. I’m sure for the 80’s this must of been innovative but this sounds just what I hear everywhere, which makes this album feel boring and flat

This album is special to me. I remember as a tween always grabbing this cd from my dads cd collection and listening to it, but one day I just… forgot it was in the CD player and then we took it out to the tip… my father was not happy but years later I paid for a copy of this CD and we all were happy. Nevertheless, what a classic record, 80’s hip hop can never get old for me esp if it’s this album.

This is a rock album… yeah it had some great moments throughout it but none of it is anything rememberable ? Nothing bad tho

I felt violated listening to this album. Like at points this album physically made me feel uncomfortable. It’s so sad because so many of the songs have great hooks to them, it’s like they had great ideas and were like “how do we make this into the worst thing you’ve ever heard”. I can justify a lot of noise… like hell I gave DOA Throbbing Gristle a 3/5. I can’t justify this. This shoulda stayed in the studio as a drunkmen’s idea for laughs and giggles.

I’m a little… disappointed from this album. I guess I’ve never been too into the Rolling Stones / the sorta genre of the time, and this is nothing special from it. Theres more from aftermath which was given earlier in the list for me, this just felt like Rolling Stones filler album

If I think there’s a single focal point of where my music taste came from originally - it probably is this album. Well, this album and Every Open Eye (which is arguably better than this album haha). I remember my dad first showing me this album the year this came out at the ripe old age of 10. It instantly captivated me, beautiful synth pop with such great vocals, which I kinda had a thing for British pop vocals at the time thinking back to it. Road trips would always have this record on rotation. So in a part, this reminds me of childhood too. The mother we share and Recover especially, it’s just… perfect. And then I wonder why Magdalena bay is my favourite band of all time haha, it all makes sense now. Thanks CHVRCHES

sometimes i'm listening to an album on the list with someone else and they say the most accurate thing ever and i'm like "i gotta steal this". so this album, kinda filler stuff, which is insane to be on the 1001, like this ain't meant to be here. my father's like "oh this sounds like an album which they were forced to make to be able to go on a tour" and i'm like... OMG YEAH THAT'S IT. there's the random good song on here but it's almost pointless.

This album is a bit better than a few of the last boring 60’s rock album that I’ve had on the list - but it’s not that special either. Just not a fan of the back ends of the longer songs - have a great hook then just overstay their welcome.

Maybe I just have the wrong opinion on what “shoegaze” sounds like cause I didn’t really get that vibe too much from this album compared to MBV or Slowdive or Ride. I did like the use of drum machines on this album, added a nice contrast to it! Nothing fully grabbed me tho

This is just a standard run of the mill David Bowie. I didn’t find it innovative nor did I particularly dislike any of it, it’s a fascinating experience.

Hella frontloaded album - first few songs blew my mind but then afterwards it kinda turned into more average stuff - but still very cool nevertheless.

My rating of this album is going to be a bit confusing compared to what my thoughts are on this. This album reeks to me of “oh so this new introspective electronica album came out at a time where the reviewers wouldn’t know the legacy of the album in the future. A bold stance “destroy rock & roll”, very likely a reference to the “destroy disco” moment that launched rock into the stratosphere in the late 70’s and early 80’s. And I’d argue, did rock and roll ever return to the grace that it had after 2004? Apart from a few explicit exceptions, I don’t think so. And that’s probably why the critics of this list decided to put it there - because they thought audiences might resonate with it the same way it did - and move into more electronic focused decade - which, again, I feel like that happened. But that’s maybe a bias I have from being into current electronic music haha. To the album itself. The electronic elements are nice, some songs really bring that 2000’s electronica feel to it really well. But some songs are just… cringe. Idk why electronic artists make these 7-9min songs where they’ve got these repetitive boring catchphrase, esp on the title track, naming just almost random artists from the 70’s and 80’s that most fit the bill of rock and roll, but… Stevie wonder? Wham? What????? Why we confusing soul and pop with rock and roll??? It’s confusing. This album didnt last in the general public conscious, even in the electronic sphere I had no clue of Mylo and all straws lead to Coldplay’s album. Something like Modjo’s self titled would fit 100x better on the list with a more coherent vibe to it. I guess the difference is this album samples rock classics as an anti-tribute to them??? I feel like the average bedroom producer makes better electronic music nowadays than this album, mostly cause the songs just GET to the point. Haha, imagine a dariacore album on here, now that genre samples similar to what Mylo did here.

This probably woulda been the prog rock album that I would have been like “I don’t like prog rock but this is the oddity”. For the first 36mins, yea that was true. The original of the L’s theme from Death note was like a “woah” moment, really lived to make me kinda enjoy the first piece. I saw a comment that was this sounds like Final Fantasy music, and yeah, it so does. 36mins tho, it turns from great to instantly uncomfortable with the grunt screaming. I don’t like this. If I’m prepared for it, I don’t mind it, but it’s 30mins of beauty then 8 minutes of just pure uncomfort. Completely ruins the flow of the album.

It took me 2.5 months and a relisten of this album to get my full thoughts on this. This is without a doubt the best PyschRock album i've ever heard, i don't like the genre so this was a lil treat. also my mum's fav album. I do find that Light My Fire is significantly better then the rest of the album, if it was to THAT quality for all of it i'd probably rate it higher haha.

i will always have such a sweet spot for 80's soul... beautiful voice and great synths. two elements that make anything peak (don't quote me on this)

This just reminds me of high school concert band. One of my favourite songs we ever played was Splanky, such an explosive song to do, and whilst I didn’t play the lead trumpet part (I prefer 2nd cause I got to solo over everything), it’s something I always go back to. The rest of the album is just gorgeous, sweet trumpet melodies with lovely woodwinds and just sweet keys. I could listen to this music for my whole life and be just fine.

was expecting female vocals smh clickbait existed back in the 1970s. they did have some tunes on here, esp going out of their way not to be every rock band and add some more instrumentation in a nice way, prob eno pushed it into their heads before he left haha.

was on a road trip with a genesis fan when this album pop up and the light on his eyes when he got to listen to his fav Genesis album is something i'll won't forget. phil collins cooked on the drums and Gabriel sung well, cool moments but Prog is just not my genre as much as people say that it should be haha

i feel like to me this is one of those "VERY" innovative rock albums from the early 70's that i should get but i don't cause everything else sounds like it from the time. i did like the bits where it went out of the norm and had bits of sax and stuff in it haha

this album falls off a cliff after the first half, which i was like "ooooh this is some good 80's synth stuff" and then it just gets into that ambient experimental stuff and like sure that's cool for some people but that's not the vibe i wanted esp from the first half.

I'm just not into whatever leonard cohen makes... it's good sure but it's just boring and got bored half way thorugh

The vibe I get from this album is like “what if a band was made up on electronica musicians who just love to make their uni professors proud by using new instrumentation in synths and vocal effects live”. It’s good but it feels like what rock guys would like in an electronic album, which as an electronic fan I often find to be kinda lame at times.

One of the most interesting albums I’ve heard on the list - early punk mixed with hard rock but has a bunch of not rock influence in it. It’s not to my taste one bit but the quality is there.

muse is the sorta band that i was really happy to see on the list when it generated yesterday. often i'm disappointed in what the list generated post 2004, especially the albums within the 2000's because it often feels like albums that they think MIGHT get relevance in the future but most of the time they are unknown, but they've hit the head on it this time. it's just lovely rock, def has radiohead influence but that's quite cool

I quite liked this early hip hop album, it just has charm that you can really get from hip hop of the time. Backing beats are pretty cool too. I did find it a lil repetitive towards the end however

But after listening to this, i get it. if there was only 1 slot for Fiona, Tidal deserved it. It's just beautiful. her voice, the instrumentation just invites a flood of emotions, which was perfect for the train home on a friday night LMAOOO. Shadowboxer a generational song.

Jamiroquai... oh my god. Look, i've known them for years at the points, i've listened to Traveling Without Moving and thought "wow what a great album", but WHY DID I MOVE ON FROM THEM??????? this is a phenomenal record, just lovely polished 90's acid jazz with just the energy needed to just... live life high. Too Young to Die is just a crazy song. Yeah I totally get the Stevie Wonder comparisons, but honestly, that just makes it better, he's transformed Stevie's song in such a dynamic and just GREAT way. masterclass of an album.

The funk and soul elements on this album are mmmmmmm so tasty, but it has absolute MISSES on the album too. Fascinating product from the 70’s it’s a cool album.

Lil quirky story whilst I was listening to this album. I was holding a cup of water in panic to not drop it whilst being on a bus. I needed to focus hard on it. This album wasn’t bad enough for me to be annoyed whilst doing but not good enough for me to be distracted on my main goal.

Just a beautiful sung jazz / mid century pop album from the 50's, with a lovely Orchestra to back it. i could just listen this to this all day and not get bored haha

This is probably the highest 3 I can ever give an album. It’s just lovely bossa nova with lovely charm to it. Nice vocals too. I don’t think it pushes the needle too much however.

I’m not a prog rock fan and it really shows that I don’t like the album. YZZ was the highlight cause my guitar friends like that stuff but yeah not for me.
