Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
Apr 30 2025

Heard this one a few times before. Psychedelic, atmospheric, but just a couple of standout songs for me. Will revisit. Embryonic is still my fav Lips record.

Parallel Lines by Blondie
May 02 2025

3 songs: 5 stars the rest: 1-2 stars Album: 3 stars

Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits
May 03 2025

contrary to the normal 80s three minute songs - most are over six - totaling 9 tracks at nearly an hour long great guitar riffs groove smart use of keys a few big hits, other decent songs I hadn't heard before 3.5

Funeral by Arcade Fire
May 05 2025

Solid indie alt rock record. Helped define the indie aesthetic in that decade.

May 06 2025

Some high notes, some low. Hadn't heard this record before, mostly sticking to their first two. Pleasantly surprised. 3.5

Blur by Blur
May 09 2025

with the exception of Song 2, mostly uninterested

Blunderbuss by Jack White
May 10 2025

Jack White is a talented musician, this album had a couple standout tracks, but not enough to bring me back for a full listen. 3/5

Oar by Alexander 'Skip' Spence
May 12 2025
Beauty And The Beat by The Go-Go's
May 13 2025

Up there with the best of the punk/new wave explosion of the 70s/80s.

Dare! by The Human League
May 23 2025
Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth
May 26 2025

Their influence is apparent in much of the music scene today, especially post-punk and psych rock. I unfortunately haven't spent much time with Sonic Youth, I will now.

Freak Out! by The Mothers Of Invention
May 28 2025
Slayed? by Slade
May 29 2025

not bad but not too original for the time

Exodus by Bob Marley & The Wailers
May 31 2025
Eliminator by ZZ Top
Jun 06 2025

Only 4/11 songs worth listening to. Mostly lyrically lacking. 2/5

Seventeen Seconds by The Cure
Jun 07 2025

Seems like they're still trying to find their sound in this one. Full of mostly emotive soundscapes.

Faust IV by Faust
Jun 08 2025

great experimentation and groove 3.5/5

Boston by Boston
Jun 14 2025
1999 by Prince
Jun 20 2025
The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Jun 21 2025

Underwhelming compared to their first two albums except for the title track and Sprawl II.

Pearl by Janis Joplin
Jun 22 2025
Ys by Joanna Newsom
Jun 29 2025
...And Justice For All by Metallica
Jun 30 2025

Long time Metallica fan and just recently discovered that since this was Jason Newstead's first record and the first record since the Cliff Burton's passing, the rest of the band mixed the bass way down so it's barely audible. This used to be my favorite Metallica record but I have to dock it a star for that.

Slanted And Enchanted by Pavement
Jul 04 2025

Genre defining sound. Stephen Malkmus's voice is an acquired taste though.

Songs for the Deaf has always been the album of theirs that has drawn me most. This one has its moments. I can still hear Kyuss peeking through in a lot of this album, which is great, but I still feel they're searching for their sound here in the first album.

One World by John Martyn
Jul 08 2026

The music was OK, but couldn't get over the mumbling vocals.

The Rise & Fall by Madness
Jul 09 2026

I'm convinced some albums made it on this list because of one hit song, which I feel ruins the spirit of this exercise. One point for Our House (which sounds nothing like the rest of the album), one point in general for the talent of the musicians, not the songs themselves.
