Such a moody album. Feels like floating for 45 minutes on end. Gorgeous tones and breathy vocals make this an album for the ages.

This is awful. I want to give it less than 1. It has a lot in common with things I adore, however, there's enough wrong to make it terrible. The 'singing' is the worst thing of all, it's barely even a voice, just some whiney sound in the background. The production is all off, the music is a mess. The worst I've had to listen to in this project so far.

I'm sad and I listen to Loveless every night. This is one of my top 10 favorite albums of all time. Come on now.

Fitting to get this one right after it's been officially added to streaming services! If you showed me just the first track and told me "this is what shoegaze is", I'd be totally hooked. Unfortunately, I feel the album falls off a bit and loses a good bit of it's edge that got me hooked. While the flood of reverb is nice to listen to, the way it's used doesn't impress me nearly as much throughout the rest of the album. Despite all this, the album still comes across as a stellar and unique listening experience, so hats off to mbv for killing it with this album.

You need to be in the mood for this one. It's supposed to be a classic, but for me it's too fragmatic and not enough real songs. I'd rather listen to The Smashing Pumpkins and Silversun Pickups

There are some cool musical ideas on here but I don’t like how you can barely hear the vocals and the droning distorted guitar gets kinda tiring. There’s not a lot of contrast. I liked When You Sleep, Sometimes and What You Want the most

Why bother having lyrics if they are just going to be mixed super quiet so you can't hear them? Why bother listening to an album when you could just play one song on repeat, or just not play it in the first place?

Some good sounds, slightly phsycadelic guitars. Enjoyed the album, vocals fairly non descript but sound good and atmospheric.

vocals are NOT what I expected. reminds me a lot of smashing pumpkins sometimes. Not a huge fan.

I can hack this in small doses, but after a while the fuzzy, abstruse nature of the music all just blends into a monotonous melange. Perhaps I'm simply not in the right mood? What would be the right mood? And how crap would this sound without any feedback?

I absolutely didn't get it....it's not bad, but it's not good also...it's strange, but also very simple and raw...It's not for me, but I recognize something that should be for me....I Don't know...

I've listened to this album probably around 20 times since I first heard it and I'm no closer to understanding what they're saying now. It just sounds so cool and I always feel totally immersed in a wave of guitar chords and ethereal vocals. 5/5

Another one of these. People tell me they're like the Smashing Pumpkins. They're no where close. It's just shoegaze nonsense with droning low vocals. That genre is the worst. I can't imagine these albums are high on the list to get replaced by the next great albums in the next update.

Banging shoegaze - THE shoegaze album. Dreamy as hell, good listening. Music itself is not overly interesting, but neither is a warm blanket.

I really love everything about this album and yet have always wished there was slightly more structure to the songs - if only because the stuff that feels more like a traditional arrangement is so freaking good. But really, I’m just not aware of anything that quite sounded like this before they unleashed it onto the world. Now? Like 20 million bands borrowing elements from this sound. That’s probably praise enough.

there are some "3" songs on this album... just not enough of them. thought i'd like it more, but too much non-differentiated droning. so many folks say this is a 5... i tried again. i just don't get it.

Shoegaze music just isn't my thing, what can I say. Very droning, very little melody, so much distortion that I can't appreciate what I think could be some good guitar riffs and drum fills. Not a fan of the singer either.

Album felt very much like a rock band performing in their garage. Felt very raw but lacked any interesting sounds.

Although having worked as a sound engineer in hard-rock and thrash-metal. I did not really like this album.

I could love this less. Same ethereal energy as Virgin Suicides with more arena sounding guitars. Reminds me of Viva Voce and solo drive to Presidio.

It wasn't for me. Also why did they mix the vocals SO SOFT. It was a painful listen and I'm not sure why they made it so. But that's just me.

I thought they were emo. This was more ambient. Pretty decent.

Best track: "I Only Said" Clearly influenced the Smashing Pumpkins

Another mediocre album by My Bloody Valentine. Lots of noise songs with ok use of effects but not really My thing. Last couple songs were pretty good which ups its rating a bit would give it a low 2.5

I have not heard of this band before but I like the style of music. Gives me girlfriend vibes. Genre is "shoegaze".

A classic shoe gaze album that defined the genre. Personally not my favorite shoe gaze album (I prefer Cocteau Twins), but still overall decent to listen to.

7/10. Have seen it on many 'top albums of all time' lists but I don't really get the hype. There's some good songs on here (Only Shallow is great) but its not as good as everyone makes it out to be. Still an enjoyable album!

This is the brand of shoegaze that I don't super love. It's pleasant enough, but the fuzzy lyrics and lack of focus on melody really bring it down for me. I'm not sure I completely understand the universal acclaim this band/record gets. Best track: Soon

Gorgeously textured, so much so that I can almost taste them. A warm, enveloping blanket. Wonderful music to smoke to, if it isn't obvious. Favorite tracks: "Only Shallow", "When You Sleep", "Soon"

One of THE worst albums I have listened to, so far the worst one. I don't know how people like this album. The production is dog trash, the lyrics are corny, I can't hear a thing in the vocals, which by the way, the vocals almost always ruins the songs, and I'll just leave it at that.

I think this might be an album you have to listen to A LOT in order to "get it". I just am not sure that will happen for me.

first song, the moment they sang, i'm in love <3 which is expected bc I say this is one of my genre and i can't believe I've never tried listening to them before (aaah right i know now why, they're not on spotify!). i like Sometimes best I think, When you sleep for lyrics and peak shoegazeness. Blowin a wish din pala. outro of what you want!

This is the second album I've had by this band on here, and the second time I've wondered why. Is there a reason anyone needs to hear shoegaze before they die? Is it coincidence if it makes me want to kill myself? Occasionally this album accidentally breaks into something resembling melody and song structure - "when you sleep" being the obvious example - but only for a few moments before going back to its reverb and feedback safe space. It's like listening to a garage band whose guitarist has just bought a multi-effects pedal and can only go a couple of minutes before fucking around with dumb sounds no one else cares about. 2/5.
