Reviews (page 15 of 15)
Man this album took me back. HS grad year. I’ve never listened to the whole album but it was so good. “The drugs don’t work” is a beautiful song.
I enjoyed some of these tracks but others....
I've seen a side to The Verve i've never heard before. My favourite discovery here is "The Rolling People". There is a nice mix of different sounds here, though I found the pacing of this album a bit off, constantly switching between slightly upbeat and then down again, which is why this isn't a 5/5 (a Coop 2/5). Not a good review due to only listening while cooking lol
Great song. So so album.
First year. Robert Gordon university. Garth see flats. On repeat.
suburban hymns more like it
Any essentials list is going to be subjective but this inclusion is the first so far to really raise an eyebrow from me. Oh well: it probably dates me more than anything. Got absolutely spammed by Bittersweet Symphony in the late 90s, especially during one of my few and brief MTV watching eras. Didn't recognize a single other song off the album. Surprised by several Eagles-esque, lightly countrified sad-ballads amongst the offerings.
I will come back to this
Was a good album, but the best songs were on the first half and the rest didn't slap as hard.
I've heard the very popular single off this album. Sonically the album was very uninteresting to me with exception of "This Time" Like a less interesting cold play
Excellent

A little too long for it’s own good
The first song is overplayed. Gets better starting with the second and third songs. The Drugs Don't Work is an okay song, better if your drunk. Decent album don't like it as much as I remember when I was younger.
8.1
Sehr emo.
Pretty good but sounds the same throughout the album.
Unsure how much I liked it - need to relisten
Love this album but really only 4 decent songs!
Nice og chill album, har avskrevve det pga bitter sweet symphony
Bittersweet Symphony takes me back. I like the rest too.
Beautiful album, a little slow for my liking
4.1
Classic 90s
Great opening track. Tracks 3&4 both phenomenal. Hits a few songs which are ok but seem more filler. Great Segways in between songs.
Couple great songs. 3.5
Great brit rock album
This has aged poorly.
The opening and closing tracks are great, not a lot of underdeveloped potential on the track listing.
sounded kinda same-y at times but it was a vibe
Solid. I now know where Cold play stole their first songs.
Decent album that can't hold the high quality of its opening title nor of some other britrock staples
-Smooth flows, dodgy themes, no filler tracks.
One very Iconic Song, but too poppy for me.
Bitter Sweet Symphony & Lucky Man sind nice. Der Rest ist gesülze.
Sounds very nice
good. deserves another listen
Stone cold classic
Starts with a bang with Bittersweet Symphony, then it's like "Oof, what happened?"
Always amazing
Good one, some great songs
Alternativ, 90’er, melankolsk, stryger, psykedelisk, indie
Knew the big song but pretty solid all around
"Bittersweet Symphony" has always been... not my favorite song, but I tried to shed that bias and listen with fresh ears. Still not doing much for me. It's a really long record, doesn't really do anything for me. And I like shoegaze, which this album has in spades. Nah. Favorite track: "Catching the Butterfly"
"Bittersweet Symphony"
This was such a breezy listen. Such good driving music, too. Also I don't hate Bittersweet Symphony as much now, so there's that.
Starts with their biggest hit, and that's where it may as well end. Super generic, all the tracks are way too long considering the lack of diversity on the album, honestly super shocked this album is even on this list. Probably the biggest example of the British influence on this list. Would honestly only give half a star for the hit if I could
Alt rock/pop, 3,5/5
2/11 Another great, psychedelic Britpop album. Standout Tracks: Bitter Sweet Symphony, Sonnet, The Drugs Don't Work, Space And Time, Come On / Deep Freeze
LOOKING AT THE HEAVENS WITH A TEAR IN MY EYE 🥲
Wow, first song is a banger that I recall from my childhood but they made a mistake of putting there bestbsong first. Also a really fucked up thing was said in the drugs don't work song about cats being drowned in a bag.
was a good album with indie vibes
It's got a few good songs but the others are a bit weak in comparison
Its not bad, just a bit boring. Has a few classics on it though. Bitter Sweet Symphony is great, so is Sonnet and The Drugs Dont Work.
