My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Kanye Westnot sure his ego will handle 4 stars
not sure his ego will handle 4 stars
Excellent. It doesn't get more Radiohead than a song about a video recording you'll leave behind after you die
NOW That's What I Call Dad Rock
Definition of "meh". When your most famous song is a cover of a song from a movie maybe you're not that good
Every Track In Its Right Place. Sublime
the irish bruce springsteen
bof bof
not my cup of tea - most songs a 1-2. Elevated to 3 because I do like Mr. Tambourine Man
Prefer kind of blue. Flashes of brilliance but mostly boring
was ok - would fit a skateboarding video soundtrack but wouldn't listen to it normally
very wet
Lovely stuff
not sure his ego will handle 4 stars
Under "meh" in the dictionary is a picture of this album
A couple of good songs don’t make a good album.
pretty decent - paul weller has a big range of styles
lots of classics on here I didn't know were the same artist
Excellent. It doesn't get more Radiohead than a song about a video recording you'll leave behind after you die
Won the mercury prize - must have been an average year
couple of ok tracks. most sounded like kids had taken over an open mic night
Super Funk
music wasn't as trippy as the alum cover
This and hot chip kick started my love of electronic music. One of the best album opening tracks
Feel like once you’ve heard one art rock band you’ve heard them all. Do we really need tortoise when we have mogwai?
it was ok - all to say really.
I really miss live music
the best band to put on at a party
Didn’t really connect with the lyrics - maybe need to live in the south USA and drive a truck. Some nice music though
Move your feet to the Cuban beat, unless you don’t have any feet
NOW That's What I Call Dad Rock
Spent more time listening to the lyrics as I wasn’t working this time and they are incredible. The music I do find repetitive throughout though
What I like with Sigur Rós is that the voice sounds like an extra instrument as I have no idea what he's saying. This is also a problem as I can't connect with the lyrics.
First time listening to a Nick Cave album and really enjoyed it. Liked the macabre themes to all the songs, and the dark humour.
On second listen I did like this album more - I think I would have loved it had I discovered it during my indie phase of high school
Possibly the greatest album opener of all time. And doesn’t drop in quality much after that. Head banger
Pure nostalgia. One of the first albums I would listen to on repeat on my CD Walkman in the car.
2nd track was quite fun. Found the rest quite boring though, folk is really not my cup of tea
Pleasantly surprised by this, not skim instant classic but got really into a couple of the tracks.
For someone I’d never listened to this was excellent. Both the lyrics and her voice were incredible. Put me in a good mood listening to it.
Was pleasant enough, not one song jumped out and grabbed me though.
Heard the name but never really taken any notice of Eels before - I guess they got lost in the rest of 90s alternative rock. However really enjoyed this. Liked Everett's lyrics and voice.
Love this album, though Damn. may be my favourite Kendrick album, this is the first one that got me into his music. Definitely my favourite hip hop artist
This is what I thought that Zombies album would be more like - enjoyed this one more.
A couple of good ideas on there - but overall this is just someone new to garageband trying out all the features
Enjoyed this one. Not enough that I’m going to explore the rest of their catalog but was good to head bob along to
Very uplifting - made me want to go visit latin america
Was very disappointed in this album, I like a few police songs but only Every Breadth You Take was on this album, I found the rest pretty forgettable
Stevie Wonder’s music can’t help but put a smile on my face. My favourites of his tracks aren’t on this album - but still a banger
This was enjoyable, if not a bit samey throughout. I prefer Iggy Pop's solo stuff - well Lust for Life.
Again not really a fan of folk, but a few of these tracks I really liked - the less folky ones
Incredible from start to finish, the 70s had so many bangers. Perfect Day is one of my favourite songs of all time I think
Heard that song Family Affair before loads - no idea it was them, a classic. Rest of album was ok, didn't grab me though
Really find his voice irritating after a while. Some of the lyrics are quite sneery as well
What a voice, what great lyrics. The last strings track was beautiful
One of my favourites and first got me into psychedelic music. The bass line and guitar coming in and out on Third Stone is what sold it for me. Foxey Lady is just such a great song
Pleasant enough, pretty forgettable for me though. Big band is alright for background music in films but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen
Best of new wave, banger after banger
Was ok - he has a great voice, no denying, but a bit mundane
Always left wondering whether I love the song because the opening few bars remind me of a the original sampled song and kick my enjoyment neurons off. Nonetheless enjoyed this
not sure if this or IV is my favourite - but it doesn't really matter, both are bangersssss
Forgettable - what was the point of listening to that.
Excellent debut from PJ - better than the last one
groovy
was ok - felt like songs that would be used at the end of an 80s film about a battle of the bands, with everyone cheering afterwards and carrying the band out of the arena on their shoulders
Ok
Couple of good songs, his voice is very dreary though
Reading about the album, apparently he heard a bootleg cassette of South African street music and got on a flight out there to record new sounds. What a extraordinary final product
Really doesn’t do it for me. Find his voice annoying, also don’t think it was very soul
Shocker. The talking bits were very cringe
More soulful then the soul man
I do like the hits Paradise City and Sweet Child - but the rest of the album is a bit flat and similar
Enjoyed this one
This was good but there's better Queen albums IMO
A weird one - loved the first and last tracks but the rest of it didn't do much for me
Good background music
Liked this one - always enjoy some blues
Lou Reed and Nico’s voices are a match made in heaven.
Very good. This is more of the folky protest stuff I like - Buckley's voice is great
Nice album. I met Billy Bragg at a record shop in Austin, lovely man - hated Thatcher
Like the last Paul Simon this was very pleasant to listen to
Didn't do much for me
the king of synth
got into the guitar riffs on some of the track, also following along with the english translation was an interesting story
It's hard not to enjoy blues music
Yes Cressey the first track was very very good. Rest was pretty good as well. Think I preferred the murder ballads though
Yeah he is good. Tiny Dancer is just a great song
OK - obvs sweet dreams is a banger, rest is a bit meh but still fun
Incredible debut album. Glory Box is sublime
Would play this on repeat on first ever iPod on car journeys. What great memories
This was ok, probably not going to come back to it ever though
Never really listened to smashing pumpkins, not sure why as definitely style of music I like. this is a great album if not a bit too long. His voice can also come across a little whiny
yawn
Yep liked this quite a bit - not as good as Massive Attack or Portishead but still great Bristol music
Wikipedia says this is "speed metal" which makes sense as every song felt like it was being delivered at 100mph. Excellent
meh, this was ok
Enjoyable, I liked the heavy use of keyboard
Bit boring, Another Girl, Another Planet added a star though
This was ok, can never differentiate good from bad Reggae but it's enjoyable to listen to. Also read Marcus Garvey's wikipedia while listening and learnt a fair bit. Interesting guy with some controversial views
A few stand out songs, was pretty good. Don't have much more to say
i now understand why I've never heard of the auteurs. Wasn't bad but was very mundane rock. Liked the first track though
Liked this one, soul music I always find so relaxing
Never heard of these before but right up my street. Loved the ambient tracks, and the soundbites they drop in, not quite a 5, maybe a 4.5
At first I found jarring but by track 5 it had grown on me, once I got past the shouty shouty frontman
This was pretty good! Never heard of them before, sounded 90s so was surprised to find it was early 80s
Love this album, find the music so otherworldly and hypnotic. Yoshimi pt 1 is a Jam
Definition of "meh". When your most famous song is a cover of a song from a movie maybe you're not that good
Don’t usually like country but this was nice, great voice
love this album. The samples and electronics work on every track. My favourite is frontier psychiatrist, banger
Ok, was a bit bored on some of the tracks though
Other than There She Goes this was rather bland
This type of music is always easy to listen to in the background, wouldn't say I love it but it's got a certain something
Very floaty. Enjoyed this, not as much of the floating through space album
OK, nothing special. Kinda music that would be first on at 11am at a festival
Phenomenal, Light my Fire is one of my all time favourite songs. Album as a whole is great, love the keyboards
Was ok, a lil boring - bit like the pixies
Very pleasant rock
Always like Motown music but find it can be similar and hard to stand out. Enjoyed it though.
It is a classic, heard imagine so many times it can be a bit tiring, but think jealous guy is the best anyway
Found this really unique, love the singing style. Excellent cover of Grapevine as well
Not really my cup of tea, but can hear the talent in his voice, like some of the orchestral music as well
Every Track In Its Right Place. Sublime
Loved the lyrics, enjoyed the music style but folk never going to be something I truly appreciate I think
Our House is a banger, as is Tomorrow's just another day. However feel like the only great madness album is the greatest hits, they have a lot of shit
Not as good as robots but still loved this. The opening 2 tracks are fantastic
American Girl was great - the rest was average rock - imagine it would be good if you were doing a road trip across USA
Thrash is just one of those genres I'll never get into
Was pretty good, think I prefer some of there other stuff though, like London Calling album, some of this felt a bit flat
A classic. Love the unique guitar style
Used to listen to this a lot, great record with loads of different styles
Surprised me, was very enjoyable and had a lot of different styles
Impressive voice, but got a bit repetitive for me. Aware of the impact he's had on modern music though
One of the best of 2017. Such a fun album, especially Tokyo
wasn't that great - seems like all 80s bands were one hit wonders. an extra star just for take on me which is great tbf
A mix of songs that are fun to listen to and cool samples and others that are a bit dross. I remember seeing MIA at Bestival and Josh spent the whole time waiting for Disparate Youth as he thought she was Santigold
Kinks have some of my favourite songs from that era, but on their albums there are some really boring songs. Waterloo Sunset and Death of a Clown are bangers though.
I'm not the biggest metal fan but can appreciate some of it. This was just shit from start to finish though
Opens with one of the best pop songs of all time, but thought it was pretty dull after that, surprised
Country is probably my least favourite genre except for a few artists. This didn't fall into them. 2 stars as I liked a few of the lyrics
This was pretty good, not as great as their later stuff -some of it was very simple and similar, but enjoyed it a lot
This was ok - it's not something I usually listen to so not sure if it's good or bad in that genre but I enjoyed it
This was a very fun album
Found this really dull, think it was his voice. very repetitive
Not as solid as The Doors, but still a great album. Morrison's voice is just so good
Find his voice boring. Whole album felt flat and not much to it
Really liked this one, not heard of Love but every time I find a new album from this era usually end up liking it. Recognised a few of the tracks as well
I've said before how I don't like most country and this is the perfect example of the kind I don't like. Boring
Excellent stuff. Love finding bangers on this list that I've never heard of. Loved the weirdness of it
Very fun
Do like kraftwerk but it does get a little repetitive
Mixed bag, liked some of the songs, but a few were too much
never really listened to dire straits. but knew money for nothing and walk of life - great songs. the rest was a bit meh and boring
The album that started a generation of indie copy cats in UK.
Find soul music like this so easy to listen to, just comforting
Pleasant enough. Repetitive but I liked listening to it
After 1 track I was thinking this could be a 5 star album, by track 4 I was 2 stars. This is my problem with reggae. It gets tiring fast after the initial rush. How does anyone love this genre I’ll never know
A bit of fun, bit over the top - maybe more of it's time
Alright, bit too musically for my taste but some enjoyed some of the songs. Wouldn't rush back to listen again
Can't deny this has bangers
I was bored by this. Lots of people love sufjan and never really given him a chance, maybe this was the wrong place to start?
Quite fun lyrics - but still sounds similar to most other country
Liked this, great to work to. Would have been fun clubbing in 90s to this
Easy to understand why this is regarded as one of the best albums ever made. Every track could be the best track on another 70s rock album. Sublime
This was fun, his lyrics are great.
What a talented 30 minutes. Great solos on all instruments, as good as jazz gets imo
This was ok, hasn't got most of my favourite chemical brothers songs on there though. Found a few tracks quite boring
Not the usual genre I listen to but this was good, liked Kendrick's song
Not bad at all but nothing really stood out for me. Just a collection of good rock songs, not sure I’ll listen again in a hurry
Excellent disco album, prefer thriller or bad but this is great
Loved this, although it is quite top heavy. Band on the Run, Jet and Bluebird are the best tracks. Also love Mamunia. Do think Paul had the better career after the Beatles.
Interesting, was quite fun and enjoyed the jazzyness. Probably not going to listen again though.
I do love a bit of Prog-rock. Love the building up in the songs. Dreamer and School are just great fun songs
Always love Robert Smith's voice and there are some good songs on here, but the best are on other cure albums, some of this was a bit boring
Yes it's very good, lots of bangers. And didn't know Gangster's Paradise was a ripoff. Bit too long though and some filler
Liked this, although maybe a bit too much harmonica
Opens with an absolute banger, so many songs on this album I didn't realise were them. It's incredible on first listen, will be listening again
Big fan of sitar on track 3 This was pretty fun, never heard of them before. Can definitely hear how they influenced other bands
Enjoyed it - not an album i'm going to listen to loads. Think I enjoy iggy's solo stuff more
Love this, can't believe it's just 8 months after first album. Great covers as well as originals
This music just always makes me feel so dreamy. Her voice is perfect for dream pop . One of the best albums of this genre
Enjoyed this, very pleasant to listen to. Not as pop-y as earlier stuff. She has a great voice
Top 3 Beatles albums for me. Good day sunshine and Eleanor Rigby are absolute tunes. And the Sitar on Love you to is incredible
This was a lot of fun. Love the guitar sounds bit dad rocky. Think this is my favourite version of Hallelujah as well
The best cure album for me, Lullaby, Disintegration and Pictures of You are beautiful songs. The cure are still a bit to drab for me in places to be 5 stars but I enjoyed it a lot
Best album from the 00s indie era (from Britain anyway). Great story telling and so much energy
The best Coldplay album, never really reached these heights again, and got really bad after 3rd/4th. Yellow and Sparks are beautiful songs
Was fun to listen to, gets a bit repetitive though
nice to listen to but was bored by track 6. All felt same-y. First Neil Young album i've listened to so assume there must be better than this as he's meant to be a legend.
Their most accessible album and the gateway drug to the rest of their music, an excellent precursor to OK Computer. You can tell they wrote some of these songs with headline slots at festivals in mind, they're just great loud bangers.
This is jazz music I really like, great music to work to. Blue Rondo and Take Five are bangers as well.
A masterpiece in ambient music. Can always put this album on and just feel better, chills me out. The opening bars to Xtal is some of the most peaceful music I know
Amazing album cover Chic are a strange one, have some of the best party songs I know, but a lot of filler on their albums (133M vs 640k streams on this album show that on Spotify). Le Freak and I Want Your Love are 2 of the best disco songs but their was a lot of other more boring songs on this
First impression I got was they're very similar to the Doors, opening track sounds like something off "The Doors" album. I love the doors so I'm liking this. The final track is an epic, maybe a bit too long but loved it's use in the Simpsons so I'm giving this FOUR STARS
Liked the more blues style on this one
My favourite Portishead album, the drums on Machine Gun are great. Love The Rip as well, such a beautiful voice
Good tunes to party too. Had fun listening to these at school and university. People compare to daft punk, don't think they are that good but still great
Enjoyed this. Helped by the fact in my head it was just chef singing this in the canteen. Good soul music
An average indie album, would give 3 stars, however Maps is a banger and I think drags it to a 4
An album of 2 halves and I love them both. One of the first ambient stuff I listened as I loved Bowie and got me in to it
Was my least favourite Radiohead album when I was younger and first got in to them, now love it. Like Spinning Plates is a beautiful song (really recommend listening to the live piano version on the I Might Be Wrong EP). Also love the version of Morning Bell on this album compared to the one on Kid A. They were pumping out so much great stuff in those 1999-2000 recording sessions.
Seeing this played in full live over the summer, looking forward to it. Sexy Boy and Kelly Watch the Stars are bangers, rest is good
Some of the lyrics were fun, however I think I just find his singing style too annoying to ever listen again
I love the Kinks, and this is a great album, hasn't got most of their best hits but still solid. Sunny Afternoon is such a great summer song
My mum had this album on cassette and it was in the car for nearly a year. 1 year of driving around listening to this.
This was fun and reminded me a lot of being at school. Rendez-Vu and Red Alert are bangers, the video for Red Alert is great as well. Also love the sample of On My Radio by The Selectors on Same Old Show. There was a bit of filler though
I came to Pulp quite late, about uni time, they are now probably in one of my top 3 bands, Jarvis's lyrics and voice are just amazing, I love the storytelling in his songs. This album I haven't listened to as much as His 'n' Hers and Different Class but still love it. TV Movie is so sad, listened to that one a few times. The last track Like A Friend is v good as well, makes me think of a lot of past interactions
I've never seen a Bollywood film, maybe I should watch some the music is fun. Usually I enjoy listening to soundtracks because I can remember the scene the music is from when listening so it's strange listening to this and not knowing what it's for. Cha Cha Cha Stars As Andy Dufresne once said, “I have no idea to this day what those two Indian ladies were singing about. Truth is, I don’t want to know. Some things are better left unsaid. I’d like to think they were singing about something so beautiful, it can’t expressed in words, and it makes your heart ache because of it.”
Parts of it were interesting and it was fun, but probably not going to listen again
This was fine to listen to, most of it didn't grab me but did enjoy Catch the Sun and The Cedar Room
This was really fun to have on while working, some of it reminded me of Todd the bongo player from Flight of the Conchords
Very self indulgent, there were moments of greatness but they were few and far between. Don't know maybe this needs more listens but I just don't think I want to give it more time
Always think this album starts really strong with Disorder and then doesn't reach those heights again. Do love it though, and Ian Curtis's voice. She's Lost Control is a great track. And I Remember Nothing always reminds me of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-KvyKNSV7U
Very "Dad rock", liked it a lot. Also why I like this list, an album I'd probably never have listened to, and not heard of Peter Frampton before this.
Haven't listened in years, forgot how good it is. Think I might prefer Demon Days, but this was so groundbreaking at the time I remember. Think this was my first album I got (but not bought as my uncle pirated it for me). The music video for 19-2000 was so cool. I remember there was this flash website where the song would play on repeat and you could drive around in the car, was great
This contains my favourite Hot Chip song, Flutes, and Hot Chip are one of my favourite bands so has to be 5! HOT POTATO, HOT POTATO!!
It's a bit cheesy but I do like it. Brings back fond memories of Chris Balestrini lending the CD to everyone at school
