Stan Getz
4/5
As a Brazilian lady who likes Bossa Nova, this is tricky. I can kinda see why it is on the list (samba jazz) but most of the songs are Tom Jobim's or Ari Barroso's- which on my view, I would stick to the originals.
However, it is well executed as "elevator jazz bossa nova" and Stan Getz is a pretty talented saxophone player. It feels weird though listening to some classic songs like "desafinado" as instrumental.
I will give it a 4, but people should know the powerhouse of Tom Jobim, Ari Barroso, Bebel and João Gilberto

Linkin Park
4/5
I was unsure if this album was on the list because itbis not in the official selection, and I am happy itbis here in this selection.
Hybrid Theory was huge in the early 00s, and as a teenager, I lived the impact- from bubblegum pop to screaming like Chester Bennington.
This album is amazing, all the songs are energenitic and a banger after banger, the experiment more in the B sides. The hip hop fusion with rock they managed to do is so so iconic, impacted a whole generation, this album is so necessary for the list.
My criticism in the Robert Dimery selection is that the 2000s onwards are so neglected...
4/5
RIP Chester Bennington
And it goes to the day he died and I was taking the bus home and a guy was crying compulsively while singing Linkin Park.

Tim Buckley
2/5
Ok album. I can tell fleetwood mac members possibly a huge fan of him and there are lots of similarities with Dylan. I found his voice flat after a frw songs and not much innovative melodies. It was the 60s though..
Nick Drake
5/5
Nice surprise! Nixk has an excellent guitar with captivating melodies and lyrics. Definitely will be an album I will be returning to many times
Arcade Fire
2/5
Oh my god. That is a great disappointment. I never listened to a whole Arcade Fire album and it is horrible. The melodies are too cluttered, most of the lyrics are shallow and simple, and the delivery of Butler on the vocals are tiring after a while trying to mimic Bowie.i dont see the hype, really.
R.E.M.
4/5
Great timeless album, I would never have guessed it came out in 88. It is quality REM, although it gets a little bit repetitive towards the end. Still a great listen!
The Black Keys
4/5
Great album. Dan auerbach shines in his vocals and guitar skills. It is amazing how two guys can make magic in their music. Very enjoyable album
Ride
3/5
It was quite enjoyable showgaze and glad to know this was one of the first bands of the genre. The album is too long in my opinion though, but the first half is really good. Great discovery, will be back to their catalogue soon.
Fiona Apple
3/5
I just love Fiona Apple, but from all her masterpiece albuns, Fetch The Bolt Cutters is not my cup of tea. I feel most of the gome production kinda sparce and not really fitted for her. Some songs like "Relay" and the title "Fetch the bolt cutters" rely so much on repetitive sentences and being such a word wizard as Fiona is, it is such a shame. I also know angeee is one of the main characteristics of Fiona's music and delivery but, honestly, it got tiring in this album. It is still a great listen but I feel a few songs really stand out: " I want you to love me", " Shameika", "rack of his", "cosmonauts". I really hope she writes more thoughtful and tiny happier songs eventually.
Kid Rock
3/5
Kid Rock is not someone I would gratefully listen to but here it goes. It is not the worst thing I've listened to, I do enjoy the melodies and the rap/rock/country fusion. Some good melodies and guitar riffs there. However, the lyrics are, again, not something I would happy listen to, but he had a rappee persona and he just behaved as one. I can't believe he namedropped Matchbox 20 in one of the songs. It was fun to see some names like Eminem making part of it as well. I can see where the hate is coming from, but honestly, it is an ok album, I can see why it is groundbreaking, but I dont think I will return to it that soon
Fleet Foxes
5/5
Fleet Foxes always deliver some masterpieces and their first album just show how brilliant their lush instrumentals alongside with the cosy atmosphere can delighttge listener. Although it is summer now, I felt transported to a winter cabin with a hot cocoa listening to this. Great lyrics and one of the best folk ever written.
ABBA
5/5
Well ABBA is ABBA, it can never go wrong. Easy and flowing good pop with some of the best hits of the bands. Although, I really didn't get the title track.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
4/5
Well, who needs murder mysteries podcasts when Nick Cave delivered this album?
.
The production and the singing of Nick are really good in setting the listener to murder stories. The first two songs are slaps in the face which are kinda soothed by the ballads with PJ Harvey and Kylie Minogue. I personally think OMalley Bar was too long and Death is not the End a very funny and ironic way ro end the album.
Good album, but you really need to be in the mood and prepared to listen to it and rake all the gruesomeness. I wasn't.
GZA
3/5
So, Im not a massive rap fan. I like the atmosphere of the album and the film snippets on it, the flow and the background is pleasant but apart from that I dont know how to judge this album. So 3 stars
Marilyn Manson
2/5
Another arrist I would willingly listen to. I managed the whole 1:11though. It wasnt the worst thing Ive listen but the scream and whisper do freak me out. I think the production is quite good, really good melodies that got me hamming ro it, but the whhole story and lyrics is not my thing. Too creepy.
Cyndi Lauper
5/5
Wow, that is a classic pop album! It is kinda 80's dated but it is good in a way because it shows well the production and the sound of the time. Most of the songs are pleasant and I love Cyndi Lauper's voice. Some of her classics also present. Definitely will revisit it
The Who
3/5
Never heard a full album of The Who. It was an OK experience but honestly expected moree. The production is Ok, some voxals are good and it is good on the background but ..meh
Metallica
3/5
That was a good listen, but not my favourite Metallica album. There was too much repetition on guitar riffs, but it is undeniable the talent and the unique sound they developed.
Madness
5/5
It's weird that in UK Madness is a really famous band but anywhere else not people know them. Their blend on rock and ska with well driven piano and metal section is so envolving and catchy that it is really hard not to like. An easy 5 out of 5 album to me. Good melodies and clever lyrics as well
Michael Jackson
5/5
Well that was one of the most easy listening albuns I have ever listened to.Full of funk R&B and the amazing vocals of Michael Jackson, ans surely one of the albuns that influences loads of artists. I see so much of Justified by Justin TImberlake in here, what a copycat!great opening as well, really hard not to dance!
Beastie Boys
4/5
It was surprisingly nice for a rap album and I really enjoyed how they blend rock to rap so well. I really enjoyed the beat but sometimes the rap seemed repetitive.
.
It would be a 3.5 out of 5, but I am giving it a 4
Nirvana
2/5
I am not a grunge fan and I honestly never understood Nirvana hype. I understand why they are important, and I could tell good melodies and good live vocals in the songs...butthey are so boring. The overwhelming screaming, why??? Two satrd because the instrumental is not too bad, but I honestly think they are too overrated
4/5
I never understood why Muse had a big following but aftwr listening to this album I can understand why. They got a niche of metak and pop that somehow worked. The album was good, they hit the nail on some songs (mainly singles) but Matt Bellamy falsetos can be overwhelming at times and the guitars to repetitive
I kinda feel it is a concept album but meh. The fact that itvwas a soundtrack for twilight doesn't help as well.
Tortoise
3/5
Never heard about this band before and it was an OK listen, as it was intrumental and great for background music, but Im not a massive fan of post rock.
There are some good instrumental bits but most of it was forgettable. 2.5 but making it to a 3.
Meh
Everything But The Girl
3/5
So this is an ok album, auite good to have it on the background but mostly forgettable. While the production is good and pleasant most of the rracks sound the same and there is not much that Tracey can do with her performance to highlight the lyrics.
.
I will give 3 out of 5 but it shoukd be 2.5. And I dont understand why this album.is in this selection if there is another album of the band. Why is this in the list and huge pop changing albuns like Spice Girls Spice isn't???
Norah Jones
5/5
Oh my god. That was such an easy listening and beautiful album. The piano and the instrumentation are lush and her voice and interpretation lead the listener all along. Crazy to think she was 21 at the time and it is so cool to see her evolution with her career.
.
I know this album is not in the official book and wth, it should be. It was so big at the time and I kinda miss the early 00s.
.
Easy 5 out of 5!
Elton John
4/5
I've never dived into an Elton John album before! It's quite cool, John's voice and performance shines the lyrics and the instrumental is really captivating.
"Tiny Dancer" is easily the strongest track, and overall it is a good setlist, but some songs are long.
4 out of 5
The Streets
1/5
Well, I dont understand why this album is here when Otiginal Pirate Material is already in the list.
I appreciate Mike Skinner is telling a story but, man, the execution sucks so bad. The way he raps, the half rhymes and most of the instrumental is so flat, boring and horrible to listen to that the narrative cannot be saved.
.
Not even the fact the song "Fit but you know it" is an inspiration for Arctic Monkeys song in their first album .
.
1 out of 5
Black Sabbath
3/5
Never listened to Black Sabbath before but I'm aware this is a classic.
The guitar solos are really good and the songs are OK. Although metal is not my cup of tea, I might give it a listen more times.
Metallica
3/5
We are less than 30 albuns in and this is my secon Metallica album. And it is a compilation.
I do understand the power and relevance of Mettalica and I must confess that the blend of metal and orchestra is not a bad idea. There are some interesting melodies clashing and it's a surprisingly good listen. However I wonder why the album is in the list if it is a compilation album. I honestly don't think I will have to listen to "Master of Puppets" twiceThe projectbis good but not worthy of enterisng thenlistbas I think it is designed to Metallica fans rather than the general public, and as I am not very familiar with Mettalica discography it's like meh but ok...
.
It is a 3, I would like to rank it as a 1 as I feel it does not belong in the list. 1999 had so many good albuns as well
Curtis Mayfield
4/5
What a great surprise! This is a really good album, I love the groove and the energy even with the falsetos. Definitely will be listening to more Curtis' music!
4 out of 5 stars!
Blondie
3/5
I ws looking forward to listening to Blondie, but oh boy, I think I was expecting way more from them.
.
The album is ok, but the lyrics are too simple and the instrumental is ok. Apart from the singles ("One way or another" is quite poor in lyrics), the songs donshine much and the album overall is meh.
Beach House
3/5
I honestly never understood the hype on Brach House, but I also never listened to this album.
I mean, it is an Ok album, quite cohesive and the minimal dreampop instrumental is spot on, and good to have on the background, however, the singing of the vocalist is so 2010 coded it brings me backt to that time that I felt all the songs were sung the same way.
.
I understand why the album was considered good, bit it is not good enough for my personal list.
3/5
The Cramps
3/5
Now I know where the aithors of Lost Boys drew inspiration from.
I appreciate the idea that this album is coming from, rockabilly, surf music and punk with teenagers as vampires bit, oh boy, same riffs and the singing gets so boring.
I mean itvis an ok album but it is kinda cringe.
3/5
Wire
4/5
Wow that is a great discovery. I just love that the songs are short and straightforward covering lots of diverse sounds within punk. It feels atemporal as well.
Might listen to this album some more.
Television
3/5
I was aware of Television but never heard a song from them until now. The album is ok, I can see why a lot of people drew inspiration from them. The first half is good, especially "Marquee Moon", but some of the songs, especially the last one, "Torn Curtain" dragged.
.
I think after 5 70s albuns in a row I might need a different decade.
.
Fistt half was 4, overall 3 out of 5
Stevie Wonder
5/5
Oh my god, what an album! So easy listening with smooth funk soul melodies and Stevie's silk voice and harmonies. There are no bad tracks on it, all pure gold.
I listened to this album at breakfast and my 2.5 daughter was jamming listening to "Higher Ground." I had to repeat it 3 times and all of them were amazing, it is nice to see her dancing to the song.
Cant wait to listen to more of Stevie Wonder, definitely one of the singers that deserve more attention on my part.
An easy 5/5
Frankie Goes To Hollywood
2/5
Ok. I was born in the 80's so this band is brand new name for me, although I do remember "Relax (Don't do it), might have hearrd in a TV show or something. The album is eclectic but not in a good way, it does bring all the cheesy sounds of the 80's, that electronic sound with rock and pop that is especific of that time, again not in a good way. Apart from that the album is bloated.
It looks like a 1 hit wonder entered this list, and once again I ask myself if this is really an album to listen before I die.
.
.
If it is 1 hit wonder, I prefer the New Radicals.
John Lennon
5/5
We are 30 + albuns in and this is my very first beatle/ beatles related album. I'm going to be honest and John is not my favourite beatle, but as being the first album after the band, this is really not too bad, on the opposite it's amazing.
I really dont know if most of the songs are in a compilation my dad had when I was a kid and most songs are familiar, but I really loved the piano driven instrumental and lots of jazz references. I didnt pay too much attention to the lyrics I confess, I know it would trigger me, but yep quite decent album and made my morning lovely
5/5
The Rolling Stones
3/5
I've never listened to a whole Stones album but happy to start with the first.
It didnt take long to realise it was a cover album (first song actually), and although they do a terrific job , I wonder why it is even on this list.
.
Their only Jagger/Richards song stands in poor quality comparing to the others.
.
I enjoyes the album, will give it a 3, but shoukd it really be in here???
Elvis Presley
4/5
Late Elvis os stoll good, but this album felt like some fillers and dragged a little bit. Still I appreciate the voice and the instrumental of the songs, it was another pleasant morning with Elvis' voice being the soundtrack of our morning.
As being the first Elvis allbum on the list thatbI review. I give it a 4
AC/DC
5/5
Never listened to a whole ACDC albumbefore and what an experience! The whole album is great, energetic with great guitars and impossible not to feel the urge to dance.
.
The album is really cohesive as well. Easy 5/5
Finley Quaye
3/5
Well I had so many mixed feeling listening to this. At first I hated but then some soulful songs would come and I would love that, then weird reggae comes back again, and no, I wasnt feeling it...Overall I felt an ok album, it is all over the place but cohesive.
.
I can see it was acclaimed but it makes me wonder why is this on the list. I've never heard of him before and some easy listening songs remind me sooo much of Morcheeba. It feels weird.
3/5
Hookworms
4/5
This was a great discovery. Microshiftbis a good album and I really liked how they blended the eletronic in a post punk scenario, the lyrics are also good and I felt energised after the album.
.
My only criticism is, again, why is this on the list? Hookworms have circa 6 thousand listeners on Spotify and around 2 thousand followers on Instagram. The only big sites covering it was Pitchfork (7.9) and Drowned in Sound (much better review than in Pitchfork, btw). I understand that the music is good but were they relevant enough to be in the list? The same year we had Mitsky- Be The Cowboy who did something similar with much bigger cultural impact.
.
I really love to discover new good music but if I had the curation of this list I would not put albums like School of Velocity (Miaoux Miaoux) or Ginger Root (SHINBANGUMI), albuns I love with passion but unfortunately didnt reach much people...
Still I give them 4 stars, but wish to have discovered it on the list of best albuns of 2018.
Snoop Dogg
2/5
Geez,
Well itvis really hard to take this album seriously, I laughed out loud at some lyrics, although they didnt age well.
Im not a huge fan of rap, I like the instrumental, the basslines, but yeah, I dont think I will be listening to this again
Depeche Mode
4/5
I like Depeche Mode but I think you need to be in a certain mood to listen to them.
Never listened to Violator before , but I knew the singles very well. I really like their unique soud, so dark but so polished, so envolving as well.
4/5
Fiona Apple
5/5
Less than 50 albuns in and this is my second Fiona Apple album (and I think we are done with her, sadly).
I really like Tidal but this is the possibly the one I dont like much in her diacography after the scattered Fetch The Bolt Cutters. I find it weird that Tidal is on the list as well, it was clear that she was still finding her sound in this album, so much influence of classic jazz, but even as a vocalist she was not as sure as the other albums.
I fell When the Pawn... would be better representation of her sound in her list, as it is her best album.
I will give it a 5, as I love Fiona, but itbis not my favourite on her discography
The Byrds
4/5
This is my first The Byrds album and, even aware of them, I know I need to do a deep dive on their discography.
What a thoroughly amazing album, I had the best breakfast ever. I think the only let down is that most are cover of Dylan songs, but I just love how theyhave their unique sound, and their covers just look like their own songs.
I will give it a 4, although I keep my criticism that cover albuns should not belong to this list.
Al Green
5/5
Wow, I was totally unaware of Al Green, but could easily recognise some songs that were singles! What an easy listening, easy going album, so effortless so good instrumental, the best vibes for my breakfast with my toddler. Got her dancing to the title track.
A well deserved 5
Gang Starr
2/5
Meh. Rap is not my favourite genre, so yeah gave it a listen and yeah it is an ok album to have it in the background and the DJ did create a good atmosphere to rap to, but I just struggle to like the rhymes.
Although I do appreciate the rap on the early 90s. It is more bearable and listenable than the current ones...
4/5
This album sounded familiar, and then I realised it started strong with the singles as I recognised it all. The album os overall ok, you can tell Bono can be a skilled vocalist and the guitars scream U2. I can see why The Joshua Tree put them in the map. The album is good bit not great
3.5/5 round to 4
Blur
4/5
Oh Blur. I remember being 12 and screaming woo-hoi in a futsal competition in school and I was the only one who knew the reference (trying to be the cool kid and failing hard at that age).
Aathough I never listened the whole album before I was familiar with the singles. I feel the first 5 songs are qute strong and display well the sound of this time in Blur's career that I feel is their best, and the sound that they are known of. There are a lot of different ideas in the album and I do appreciate them, although the album is cohesive the second half is not as good as the first.
4/5
Liz Phair
4/5
I've always wanted to listen to this album and wanted to do this right so I listened to Exile in Main St. before this album. Meh, not necessary, saw the lunk but oh boy, Liz Phair did great.
Grungey album in which she says quite a few things women wants to say about scum men we find in the way. Although with Sabrina Carpenter in mainstream now, it might not feel so much of a shock factor. But it was a good album and made me realise the criticism when Liz release "why cantI" for romcoms in early 2000s.
4/5
4/5
I have mixed feelings about this album. I am not a huge fan of prog rock, but this somehow was quite enjoyable. I still dont like the instrumental excessive part, but the songs are great when they are actually playing the song (with the lyrics).
I know it is part of the genre, but yeah this is better than Pink Floyd (or ehat I know of them)
Herbie Hancock
4/5
Well that was quite pleasant.I was only aware of Hancock bit never listen to an album. It is not only jazz, but oh, the grooves! Another great morning
4/5
Stan Getz
Big Brother & The Holding Company
3/5
Well I never knew Janis Joplin was in a band...
The album is ok, you can see why Joplin's voice was a powerhouse, however I struggle to understand the choice of fabricating a live album in a studio...it feels live but it is weird.
I enjoyed most of the songs but the long jamming really annoyed me at times, I see, yeah it was "supposed" to be a live album, but the length and the jamming really let me down.
Maybe I just should see with the late 60's mindset, but honestly, I dont care.
3/5
Talking Heads
4/5
Whilst listening to this album, I was thinking "ow tune-yards drank from this album, this sound" the afrobeat and the singing is so innovative, the sounds are so vivid that still resonates.
I knew "Once in a Lifetime " but honestly, I never liked David Byrne, so I never digged into their sound.I mean, it is innovative and deeply influential, I liked it but it didnt get to the point that I love it...
...am I okay to just dig w h o k i l l instead?
Blood, Sweat & Tears
3/5
Itvwas an ok album but it felt a little bit all over the place. I like the jazz influence and it's obvious they are good musicians but, yeah, some of the songs are not for me.
The White Stripes
4/5
This is for the teenage me who used to dance to "Fell in Love with a Girl" in the lounge.
.
This album is alright, quite innovative at the time, but not the best of White Stripes. I can be too long and with random tracks just rocking out, and White's voice can be tiring...but it still rocks.
4/5
Steely Dan
4/5
That was a good surprise. Although I never heard of Steely Dan before, I soon recognised some songs that used to be played in easy listening radios. The album is so nice, I really like the instrumentals and the easy vibe. An easy 4
Johnny Cash
5/5
I really don't like live albuns butbI can see why this one is on the list. The historical gig of Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison. What an amazing album! The songs were tailored for audience with amazing storytelling and a voice that captivated everyone. An easy 5
PJ Harvey
3/5
I had never listened to a whole PJ Harvey album before. It is Ok, I was expecting more. The sound is very very early 90s as expected, but I really dont see anything that stands out. I think it is mostly girl rock for men to listen to.
The Fall
2/5
Well punk/post punk is not much my thing. I can see how influential it is (better than recent bands), but it was painful to go through the whole album. One review mentions that it's like listening to a drunk complain....yeah that's how I felt
Portishead
3/5
This album was so good...until the sharp noises started to annoy me. I understand why this album is on the list, but you need to be in a state of mind to be listening to this.
Also, I want to know why they started with a guy explaining the theory of 3 in Portuguese...
3/5
Public Enemy
3/5
I am usually not a huge fan of rap, but honestly, I did enjoy this album. I like the flow and mostly the melodies and the atmosphere this album brings.
Cant believe this is a live album. They were tight
Prince
4/5
Thatbwas a good surprise. Although I feel most of the prince album are all over the place I do appreciate his different ideas and views on music, it is always a journey through music.
4/5
The Replacements
3/5
This album is a little bit all over the place. Punk, post punk and alternative in one place. However, it is not cohesive and I dtrugglwd to have a good time listening to it
Pink Floyd
4/5
Well, I am not a huge fan of Pink Floyd, but, yeah,I havr to admit that they are good, and this album is quite good. I can see ehy itbis in the list and it is enjoyable, however the long introductions and the lady singing all over the tracks may sound weird, but it is undeniable a cohesive album
4/5
Nico
4/5
I am still on fence about this album. The instrumental and the melodies are wonderful, but Nico's voice... it is clear that she doesn't know how to sing.
I might give this album another listen as the instrumental is really really good, but I found myself questioning ehybis this on the list
Still a 4/5, mainly because of melodies.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
Well never listened to a whole album of Creedence, and what a treat. They have an uniquebsound thatbis so soulful, definitely will get more of them in rotation.
De La Soul
5/5
Oh my god, what a fun album. Inwas aware of De La Soul, but honestly, thus is a fun rap album that made me enjoy rap.
5/5
3/5
Well another punk album. I can tell the diversity of ideas in this one, but still... it's not my cup of tea.
How many punk rock albuns are there in the list?
3/5
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
I literally covered Bayou Country a couple days ago. Green River shows ta more mature sound which thry reach in a few months and this is impressive.
A thorough great album, really enjoyable.
4/5
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
2/5
I've made onto disc 2, but yep, bluegrass is not for me. I understand the album is important because it bridges old bluegrass artists to the 70's generation, but itbis not too digestable. I wonder if Robert Dimery could not care to dig into bluegrass and just popped this album in the list as a bluegrass representative.
2/5
The Isley Brothers
4/5
Oh my god, what an amazing album! It is a great song after a good song. It is not perfect because some of the songs linger for a long time, but the fun vibe is perfect.
.
I've learnt that I love soul with this project. I am loving it!
Sarah Vaughan
5/5
I first got introduced to Sarah Vaughan at Jewel Kilcher's biography, she especifically mentioned Sarah's voice control. Although I have listened to some of Sarah's songs, it is in this album that her voice control is crystalline. The way she reaches her lows delivers her highs and deliver the message of the song is something magical. The whole album shows well, even in her imperfections how amazing her voice and charisma are.
I am learning here that I love Jazz and Sarah will be definitely an artist that I will be revisiting a lot!
5/5
Marvin Gaye
3/5
Well I was expecting more of this album. There are some great songs in here (What's Going On/ Inner City Blues/Mercy Mercy Mercy) but the album feels a little bit all over the place.
I can understand why this is on the list but it's a 3 for me
Stereolab
4/5
One of my favourite Brazilian band is heavily influenced by stereolab, hoever, I had never listened to them.
This was a really surprising and anjoyable album, they could manage to innovate using eletronic and keeping the atmosphere light. Definitely will spin more albuns and the name of the album is just very funny.
4/5
Megadeth
2/5
I delayed about 2 weeks to listen to this and it is definitely not for me.
All the songs sound the same except for Dawn Patrol.
I understand it is popular and I appreciate the skill to play those solos, and even the eplace on the list, but this is too niche for me.
2/5
Frank Sinatra
4/5
That was a beautiful listen. The instrumental is gorgeous and the voice and delivery of Frank are iconic. I obviously knew already "I've Got You Under My Skin" but the whole album is such a joy to listen to.
Another artist that I will listen more often. Also such a joy to have Frank Sinatra playing while cooking and eating breakfast!
The xx
5/5
Oh my god, this took me back to 2009. I love this album, I think what the xx was so innovative: melancholic atmosphere with minimalism in which you can pay attention to the most of what's happening at the song.
I feel this list don't give credit to newer artists, but this album they nailed. The Phoebe Bridgers, Gracie Abrams and even Billie Eilish wouldn't do their whispered vocals if this album didn't exist. Also what would it be of Alt-j's experimentation?
5/5
And I still pray this trio will do an amazing album like this again
Charles Mingus
3/5
I have mixed feelings about this album. There are some very beautiful parts but also some very messy saxophone sounds that turn the music into cacophony.
3/5
John Prine
3/5
I put this album to spin and was "oh no another country album "(I had Nitty Gritty last week), but this actually I didn't mind much and actually lied it. And it was the storytelling- the observation of those small moments in everydayblife you find happiness.
Might listen to it again reading the lyrics.
3/5 the album is okish
Björk
3/5
I am obviously aware of Bjork but this is the first time actually listening to a whole album. I am glad that it was Vespertine as I feel it is an accessible album that blends well the eletronic beats to the orchestra. The melody and instrumental are beautiful, however Bjork voice and interpretation ruin it. I know I know, "you don't get her art", but honestly, she is not a good singer, and although her poems are above average, she still tries shock value to ger her message.
It is an ok album, I can see why it's on the list but it is 3/5
.
I genuinely think at this time she was maybe ebetter than nowadays which shock value with weird art speaks louder than her own songs.
Supergrass
4/5
Whata fun album. I never thpught Supergrass would offer such a round britpop album
4/5
Radiohead
3/5
I dont know why but Radiohead to me, is always a chore to listen to, and most of my favourite bands are heavy influenced by them.
So,ok, Hail to the Thief has some good tracks, like the single "There, There" or the opening "2+2=5", but the album drags, and mostly, in my opinion, it is not the instrumental that is quite clever (althoughthe electronica did not do any favours at times), but, man, Thom Yorke voice and wven some of the powtry gets tiring.
It is a 3.5 for me but rounding to 3 because lots of people will judge by the name and not the content
Dion
3/5
I was born in the 80s and all music that I can remember being played is something similar to what Dion delivers in this album. Very cheesy lyrics and melodies.
.
A 3 star album to me.nok in the background but not somemthing I would choose to listen to. Also the album is over an hour long, so yep, it doesnt help as well.
Prefab Sprout
4/5
I wasn't expecting this. The album is really good and I really like the lyricism on this one. However, the album does feel a little bit too much 80's
But thay was a good discovery, might listen to more of this band
3.5
But I will round it to 4
Turbonegro
3/5
Well this list is full of unknown bands, which is good in a way.
Well I like the production and the energy of the album but the highlight is obviously the hilarious lyrics.
It's a good album, but why is it on the list? How influential is it?
3/5
Otis Redding
4/5
This is a really good album, amazing atmosphere and great groove and vocals. Really enjoyable 32 minutes in which Otis does a great job, however, my only problem is that most of the songs are covers.
This is one of my main criticism with this list. How are we supposed to really know an artist if most of the songs are covers?
4/5
The White Stripes
5/5
Less than 100 albuns in and this is my second The White Stripes album. And what abpleasant listen, way better than The White Blood Cells. It took me to 2005 when I used to watch "Blue Orchid" and "Doorbell" videos on MTV, I used to hate "Blue Orchid", but what a fantastic song. Them switching to piano and experimenting with marimbas is so so cool. It stll feels fresh after 20 years and, honestly, this is the wxciting White Stripes I remeber.
I don't know if Elephant is on the list, but well, ai am giving it a 5. For the innovation and yep, nostalgia as well
Paul McCartney and Wings
5/5
Wow, what an album! I am writing this review while listening to it for the second time. Although I had never before listened to the whole album, I was familiarvwithbsome of the songs, if not mostbof them, I am sure I had listen to them in easy listening radios before.
I love Paul McCartney, it os really hard for him to write a bad song. All of these songs were so good, so many catchy melodies and great lyrics that just made me happy.
I think it also reflects how much talent he borrowed to The Beatles.
An easy, easy 5
Sleater-Kinney
3/5
Another band I am very aware of but never listened to an album before.
Well, I can see why they are on the list. The album is quite sharp with good instrumentals and vocals and goid energy, but one thing this project has taught me is that punk, grunge and similar sounds are definitely not for me.
3/5
The Monkees
4/5
Oh, The Monkees. It's always a pleasure to listen to them. You can tell that this album is slightly more serious than the goofy fun songs but it is still good.
I am so glad they are on the list
4/5
Nick Drake
5/5
What a beautiful, beautiful album. The smooth atmosphere created with the gentle guitars and the beautiful voice and interpretation of Nick Drake is just too captivating
This project has introduced me to this artist and now I am a fan. Although I don't think Five Leaves Left is as good as his previous album, it is still a great listen
.
5/5
Stevie Wonder
5/5
It is always a nice feeling to have a Stevie Wonder album to listen to, never a chore.
What another fantastic album, his melodies, lyrics and interpretation are amazing and it shocked me that he even sang in Portuguese on one of the songs.
I had Innervisions before, which I felt more developed butvIbpoved this one too!
5/5
Kanye West
3/5
Well, that was surprising. I had never listen to a whole Kanye album before and now I get all the praise. It is quite innovative the production (although some songs feel very 2014), but, overall it was an ok experience.
I hated the tracks with Jay-Z, he and his gangsta rap...kinda ruined rap for me.
It is a 2.5 album for me but rounding it for a 3.
I just hate rap, the lyrics and vibes are a no for me)
Queens of the Stone Age
3/5
Thusbis a good aalbum, but honestly, not as great as Songs for the Deaf.
Quite repetitive riffs and ideas, although it shows well the original sound of Queens of the stone age and the lyrics of Josh Home.
3/5 for their debut
Machito
4/5
Oh, what a fun album to listen to! The bongos, the fun atmosphere, the amazing rhythm.
And yes, this is an album I didn't know I had to listen to before i died
Derek & The Dominos
4/5
Never knew some of the Eric Clapton songs were under Derek and The Dominos. I genuinely thought it was a new band, but then I heard the iconi c guitar of Clapton.
It is a really decent album, you can tell he did this band to show off his guitar skills, but I really enjoyed it.
4/5
Neil Young
4/5
This is an album that I've always wanted to listen but always found an excuse to not listen.
I was expecting a lot from it as it is the best album of basically all my favourite artists but I was a little bit underwhelmed with his voice.
The production and the storytelling is great, so it is understandable how influential this album is, it is a beautiful album.
.
However, I thought Neil Young pull out his album from Spotify, yet, I listened to Harvest there...
.
Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
4/5
What a fun album. Ihad lever listened to a whole salsa album before and it was great. The instrumental is great the brasa section is so detailed and infectious thay it is impossible to not stand still.
I loved the lyrycs as well "Pedro Navaja" tell a story like a country song full of details
4/5
2/5
I am not sure about this album. It is really 80s synthpop but the ones that are so 80s that I just cannot bear. It was a chore to go through the album, the "Satisfaction" cover was not good, and the lyrics most times are...weird
2/5
I know they are important, but man, this is not for me
The Young Rascals
4/5
I underestimated this album by its cover, but what a lovely album. I had never heard about this band before but they bring the best of 60s pop but also experimenting with different genres, and damn, this even have a Spanish version of this album.
.
4/5
Ella Fitzgerald
3/5
I was really aware of Ella before this album, but never heard a song of hers before. This is a goos album, her voice is beautiful and her interpretation is great, however my only criticism, as this is a looong album at one point it becomes backgound noise.
There are some standout songs still but it hardly grabbed my attention. I stilll want to learn more about her, might give a try on other albuns of her discography, but yeah, a 3h long album does not help much
3/5
Pink Floyd
3/5
I know the omportance of this album, but itbis too long. I feel like I need more tome to digest and actually listen to the album properly, reading the lyrics etc, but it is too long, too atmospheric and too boring at times.
I did like the second part best, though
3/5
Beatles
4/5
What a pleasure to listen to this album. 30 minutes of great fun with well-known tracks showing some cool and very early 60's tydpical Beatles.
I dont think this is their best work but a solid 4 for me.
Taylor Swift
5/5
Oh, Taylor Swift. It is a surprise to see evermore here as it is the most overlooked album in her discography, as it was released late 2020, and connected to Folklore.
.
I must admit I never liked Taylor Swift much...until folklore and evermore, although I always followed her career at a distance. Evermore, for me, is a strong album, her lyricism shines in a unique way exploring some dark themes in a clever way. Her partnership with Aaron Dessner gives a touch of Sujan folksy that I've always secretly wanted Swift to explore. The lyrics also tell stories that although seem fictional mirror a lot her life at a time, and after the release of Midnights and The Tortured Poets Department, the context was given to put the pieces together. This easter eggs, detective work that she makes available for the listener, it is quite clever and unique in music, you will have to revist her work to get clues and, therefore, more plays for Miss Swift. Most of songs here are also linked to literature, which not many pop singers usually do.
I will give it a 5, although it isn't a perfect album, more for the unique dynamics and the obvious influence she has at the moment. To dominate so well the music industry is not an easy job, and although I hate she does it so well, I love the richfulness of her "lore" and how amazingly written are the songs of evermore.
Fav songs: "right where you left me", "cowboy like me", "no body, no crime", "ivy" and "coney island".
Madonna
3/5
Ok, I've always wanted to listen to this album, but as a pop enthusiast, this is quite a let down.
The melodies and instrumental feel very dated and for 2025, just a feel songs ("Like a Prayer", "Cherish") translate well.I know why this album should be in list but it's not good and not coherent. Madonna was never a good vocalist, but some of the songs here are painful.
Thank God she did better albuns afterwards.
ButbI am really disappointed
3/5
Bob Dylan
4/5
Thatbwas an interesting listen, I thought I would enjoy more thel yrics of Bob Dylan than the melodies but I thoroughly enjoyed the melodies and especially the harmonica.
I feel like I have to sit down and re listen to thisalbum reding the lyrics, it's quite good, I ama surprised
4/5
Linkin Park
The Offspring
4/5
One thing that I discovered with this challenge is that I am not a fan of punk. But surf pop punk with funny lyrics? Count me in. Always loved The Offspring but never listened to Smash before, and it was fun and funny listen, just what I expected.
Easilynone of the best bands of the 90s, and highly influential, even if some people here don't get them.
Every teenager in the 90s or 00s do get them
4/5
Fela Kuti
4/5
This is a great album, the vivid instrumental and horns set a party theme melodies that contrasts with the lyrics, and Injustblove when this happens.
Zombie lyrics are great, it could be used as a metaphor not only for what happened in Nigeria.
.
I enjoyed the 2 first songs, although the album came to me as a 4 songs..
4/5
Nina Simone
4/5
I went tto this album expecting something more classic but these songs are poppy and really really enjoyable. It is hard to believe it was scrapped songs
.
4/5
Taylor Swift
3/5
I know I will get backlash but I dont think this aged well. Taylor skyrocketed to fame when she released 1989, the album plays with the 80's influence but also is a good representation of a very synth fake pop that was all over the early 2010's (and I am not a fan- Rihanna, Katy Perry kinda oversaturated the sound).
Taylor knew reallybwell how to choose the singles "Shake It Off", "Style" and even "Blank Space" are great songs and work well, but songs like "Bad Blood " I wish you would" " All You Had to Do Is Stay" - they are so overproduced and even the lyrics, Taylor strongest characteristic, get lost in the complaining.
Also, you can tell so much from this fling she had with Harry Styles from the lyrics, she was 25 at the time, but she sounds like a teenager in some of the songs.
I love Max Martin as well, but yeah, early 10s he marstered this full on weird synth pop.
And ironically, this reminded me brat by charli xcx. Ironies of life.
3/5
It would be 5 out of 5 if only the singles were there.
The Blue Nile
4/5
That was an interesting listen, the instrumental is really nice and rich, some details that really mesmerised me. The production of the album is superb and you can tell they are scottish by the melancholy, it's like you could feel the rain pouring outside.
I know the Blue Nile by "Downtown Lights" and although Hats has a more varied sound, this is a good listen
.
3.5/5 rounding it to 4
James Brown
3/5
I had to listen to this album twice to get it, and honestly, its a little bit underwhelming. I don't know if there are more James Brown albums here in this list, but I was expexting more fast paced and energetic songs, all the fun that I know him for.
Also live albuns are such a chore... I understand ehy they did it but yeah it draga a little
Red Hot Chili Peppers
4/5
Oh, Chilli Peppers are so good in this album! Thebintrumental is so good, they are smashing it, you csn tellb that in this album their consolidated their sound. From the well known singles to the b-sides thae album is quite enjoyable and funky. Made me and my daughter dance in the kitchen!
.
.
Also, who doesn't like RHCP?
The Smashing Pumpkins
4/5
Wow that was surprising. I've always thought The Smashing Pumpkings were boring, but this album is great. The introduction leading to "Tonight Tonight" sets the album perfectly and it's great that they can rock and still keep the light and "melancholic" atmosphere. Also, the vocals do make a difference. Otbis quite refreshing to listen to a really good album like that- the only problem I have is that the album is too long, but it kinda pays of when "1979" comes up.
4/5
