Really not my thing, despite a couple of interesting tracks, it's very moan-y and self-centred and overall feels quite repetitive.
Some cool beats but does feel somewhat repetitive and the humorous nature of the lyrics is not always for me. Props to "Too Much Too Young" though. I wouldn't turn it off if it came on but I wouldn't suggest to put it on kinda thing.
Better than I thought and some good bass lines in there too (Backstreets I think). I wouldn't choose it but I'd listen to it!
A million candles burning / For the help that never came
I struggled with some demons / They were middle class and tame
If thine is the glory / Mine must be the shame
Top class writing as expected from one of the masters. The opening track alone is worth it.
The whole album is somewhat sad, somewhat angry and yet somewhat horny (as per my wife's description). It's great!
This is a transformative album, not one you can reach out to on any given day, but it'll certainly make its presence felt on the days you need.
I didn't care for it as much as I wanted to... Given I like Pink Floyd's other records and this has a couple of famous track on it, I was open to liking it, but the concept album thing just didn't work very well for me. Just feels like it didn't age very well in a way? Odd.
What to say about Bringing It All Back Home? There's a couple of songs on this that I don't particularly care for, but overall this is such a fantastic record which has had tremendous influence on me.
Good beats, maybe not my first choice but love the blend of dialogues and hip hop (very influential for the French rap group, IAM).
Alright, and good energy, but not something I'd reach for.
I thought I'd like this even more because there's some really good stuff, but still something makes it not quite deserving of the 5 stars.
Some good tunes and pretty chill, something I'd happily put in the background but hasn't rocked my world
Some cringe lines but some good tunes even if some of it can feel a little middle of the road it’s overall pretty and makes for a good listen.
Absolutely excellent, whatever it requires of you to get into, it gives you back tenfold.
Not unpleasant but I wouldn’t reach for it again, somewhat unremarkable. A couple of songs particularly painful.
Couldn't even get to the end...
I've enjoyed that, some good tunes and beats, will return to this for sure
Crafted and accessible, I’ve enjoyed it and would return to it
At some point I thought this would be a 4 but it’s not that interesting in the end…
Strange mix of styles? The Jacques Brel inspiration is evident but somehow this is like if Jacques Brel did dirty Disney songs. Some of it is interesting I guess but not my thing.
I think that was maybe less interesting than the previous one...
The album starts out super strong and maybe slows down as it goes (the last 3 tracks aren't exactly as interesting...) but overall it's good and you can hear some of the tracks that will make the DNA of Gorillaz.
Certainly impressed by the drumming on some tracks and it's interesting to hear the melting pot of influence. The occasional cool bass line too. However some tracks are real misses ("Mother" especially). Overall it's good but I don't think I would listen to it routinely.
Cool, but also a bit boring?
A bit punky and some tracks are interesting but broadly not very remarkable
Yeah, that's a solid album, no completely duff track and some bangers. Recommended even if it's not life-changing.
It was good and enjoyed it more than I thought (and I can see where The Antlers took inspiration) but I can't figure out if it's _really_ good?
It's a great album with only a couple duff songs on it, but not my favourite Beatles era.
It's not bad but not my thing... Definitely a bit same-y and the last song is... not needed?
You can see where the Stone Roses got inspired and overall it's good but I wouldn't choose to put this on regularly.
I liked it more than I thought I would!
Despite some lesser tracks after track 12, it remains an excellent album and certainly hallmark of my teenage years
Great from start to finish, no bad song in there really and super iconic of that time, spending hot summers reading comic books and dreaming about "the sprawl"
Some quality tracks and grooves and maybe some lesser once but it's an album that deserves a few more listens to find what works for you.
I could tell there were some interesting things in there and clearly some good musicianship (and can also see some Pulp in it), but it failed to capture my interest. It's not bad, but I don't think I'd listen to it again unless someone could point me in the direction of the things worth listening to.
I didn't gel with this, some cool tracks in there and a good interesting sound, can hear a bit of RATM (last track) and generally a nice heavy sound, but I guess I'm not massively into this anymore.
Hard to rate this anything else than a 5 because of how much I've listened to this previously and how influential it's been in my music taste but maybe it could be a 4 for a couple of the tracks that jam less for me (Scentless Apprentice notably) given how much I love Nevermind. That said, I could do it to With the Beatles but not sure I can do it to In Utero... 4.5?
Pretty good! Made me want to explore more of her work.
Surprisingly good. It was maybe a bit of a guilty pleasure back in France but the album is remarkably well constructed and though it may be a bit too sprawling for its own good the first half is solid.
That didn't really work for me. It's not terrible but I've no desire to hear it again.
There's nothing wrong with this really but I just couldn't get into it no matter how many times I tried.
Some cool riffs and basslines and while it's kind of entertaining, it's not really my thing. I didn't mind it though.
I had great memories of this album but with this recent listen maybe it doesn't shine as well anymore. It's still really good and a good sound, but something of the magic hasn't been retained maybe?
Can't deny it's pretty cool and influential but it doesn't always make for a faultless listen.
Not terrible but pretty unremarkable, won't be listening to that again even if I didn't hate it.
I know this one is supposed to be amazing but even when it came out I didn't get along with it. There are some good tracks on it but the flow and vibe don't always work for me. I wouldn't turn it off and there's only a couple of skips on it but it's not the Kendrick album I'd reach out for. Cool baseline on "Good Kid".
I didn't get on with that very much... Not my thing.
There's some great sounds and orchestrations in there but maybe not some great _tunes_ you know? It's very listenable and pleasant but won't be going back to it just yet.
I mean it sounds kinda cool but I didn't want to explore it more than that.
I'd never listen to the whole of it and though I think the album is a little too sprawling for its own good and sometimes extends in unsuccessful corners, the core of the sound and beats is solid and enjoyable.
Pleasant voice, boring tunes
I didn’t really get on with this when it came out, thinking they were less refined Daft Punk and less weird Mr. Oizo. In time I’ve come to appreciate the construction of the tracks and while I wouldn't think of listening to the album in full there are enough stand out tracks to warrant a listen once in a while.
It was alright? Some good bits and some boring bits. Maybe I missed something but don't think I would actively listen to that again. Not bad though.
I've listened to this so much, it's a treat and I'm looking for reasons why it shouldn't be a 5 and finding none. Everything is rendered with emotion.
When I first started I thought this could be a 4 but the more I listened the less I thought I'd return to it. While it's interesting sonically, I didn't find anything I'd come back for.
Pretty intense album which doesn't make for casual listening but lots of interesting sounds and rhythms which deserve repeat listens.
There are some absolutely genre-defining tune on this and at the same time some pretty forgettable stuff. Sadly the stuff that's great is the stuff that's well known and maybe the rest is not for a reason... (Except Bargain and at a push Love Ain't For Keeping).
Not my thing even if it's not entirely unpleasant.
I thought it sounded like Spiritualised but then I realised. It's fine in most cases but doesn't quite enthral like their next iteration.
Certainly joyful but the repetition didn't do it for me, it's entertaining but I can't see myself putting this on again.
Some good sounds but the lyrics are... subpar? Not sure I'll listen to that again but I might.
As live albums go, this is pretty good but the music itself can be quite middle of the road. The performance does enhance what could be a little middling otherwise, but not sure I'd want to listen to that again very soon.
The one famous track saves the album from being just a piece of litter its era. It's noisy in an unpleasant way with none of the qualities of that have made their contemporaries long lasting. There's a couple of tracks that are totally unappealing but the ideas within run their course after 30s.
Noel was given the gift of a catchy tune and uses it to the fullest extent here and the lazy-cool lyrics instead of sounding cringy are somehow stadium worthy. It's a great album to listen to which has a kind of effortless simplicity that anyone has to reckon with.
Like a mashup of The Kinks and The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band without being able to really touch either. Not unpleasant but forgettable.
Big Flaming Lips vibe with more assured vocal style and less interesting ideas. The first two tracks are nice and gave me hope but the rest of the album feels like watching someone else’s holiday pictures. I didn’t hate it but it’s more boring than it had to be.
More interesting than I thought at first, pleasant overall and probably deserves repeat listens.
I started off pretty well but then rapidly settled in the mid territory. Not really seeing what the fuss is about even if it wasn't terrible...
Yeah that was great, well worth a listen even if it tends to sound a touch similar throughout
Not a duff track on this, solid throughout even if the lyrics are sometimes... less than? But it's just the funk rock reference for me and I've listened to this about 6 million times when I was 14 and re-listening to it now (in fact, having listened to it a few months ago) it's just so good. The ultra-compressed sound makes it a little fatiguing but it gives it such an energy.
That didn't really do it for me, there are some interesting moments but it's overall not a treat to listen to and couldn't pick out a song I'd like to listen to again.
The "rock" angle of the whole thing feels pretty middle of the road now and though there are some pleasant melodies throughout there's nothing I'd return for or that makes me want to investigate further. Feels a bit like some Randy Newman/Toy Story stuff sometimes which again is not unpleasant but doesn't make for passionate listening.
I had actually never listened to this album before even though I knew some of the key tracks on it. It's good and rewards multiple listens, the mood shifts a little throughout and Superstition makes the rest of the album sound "less than" just because it's so above it all, but it has a strong start and each song has something worth listening even if sometimes the tunes feel like they lose themselves there's always a sound, a bit, a lyric worth returning to.
It's pretty fun and some decent tunes, quite heavy without being obnoxious but there's only so much distorted guitar noodling I can take... Maybe worth revisiting?
What to say about one of the greatest and most kaleidoscopic album of all time? I once thought I (finally) understood the track ordering while on mushrooms in Amsterdam. I don't remember but I still think the Beatles are talking to each other through song in this sprawling opus which shows the breadth of what they were capable of. If only a single album could get top rating, it might have to be this one (even with Revolution 9 included).
Started out thinking this would be my jam but it became quite gooey in the middle and I lost a little interest (particularly Lonely's the only company). I think I just wanted it to be a bit edgier with a bit more D'Angelo mixed in... but maybe I'll come back to it? First instrumental track is strong, and until the mid-way felt like it had more Stevie Wonder inspiration.
I've been well aware of Otis Redding but never before put a full album on so this was an interesting experience. Predictably it was pretty great but for some reason it didn't capture me as much as I expected it to.
I'd heard it before and had a brief period of listening to it, including one during a plane flight (the intro track is great to listen to after take off). A couple of the more noisy tracks prevent it from being an all-time great in my eyes, not because they're trash but because they denote too much from the vibe in my eyes. It's definitely a great album and worth a listen.
Very surprised by this! Had never heard of Jah Wobble before and the result is really quite interesting. I don't know it it'll reward very many repeat listens but there's some killer bass on this.
The euro dance vibes didn't start this very well, but some bits of this are quite intriguing. Still not my vibe, I wouldn't listen to it again, but I'm pleased I did.
It's hard to rate such an influential album and though maybe its listenability has lessened as I've aged, the stand out tracks on it are so strong and it's easy to ignore the noisier tracks.
I think I liked it more than I thought. It holds together pretty well in the end. At first I thought it was running out of ideas a bit after the first 5 tracks but on repeat listens it's still entertaining. It's not the best thing ever but it's made me curious enough to try again.
I started out thinking I'd like it and then after the first listen wasn't so sure if it fulfilled my expectations but then it rewarded repeat listens. Some pretty cool tracks on this and lots of interesting ideas throughout even some things might need a bit more time to gel. Overall, it's still pretty spectacular and varied and definitely worth returning to even if I wasn't sure it was quite "it" at first.
It's a bit cheesy but there's some solid groove in there and even if something feels slightly passé about it, there's loads for the listener here, worth a shot certainly but don't know if I'll ever get back to it (except for Hang On to Your Love maybe).
It sounds pretty good but also pretty middle of the road? I don't think there's anything worth returning to here really but I wouldn't turn it off, just sounds pretty generic now.
Though not entirely unpleasant it was mind-numbingly boring.
This started off pretty interesting but settled in the more anecdotal. I didn't have any song I wanted to listen to again without it being necessarily being a duff album. Worth exploring a bit more maybe?
Flaming lips and Beach Boys with a hint of Talking Heads and yet it's not a slam dunk. It's got some of that surrealist lyrics from the Love era but it's just not working that well for me. Lots of ideas but nothing to return to while not being terrible. It's a hard one.
This is kind of an overwhelming album, it goes in many different directions and the layering is very dramatic. It's maybe too much and too diverse to be a repeat listen but there's no denying it's electrifying and deserves to be returned to.
I've listened to this a lot and there's a reason it's on this list. A lot of stuff that on paper is not my thing, but the voice and emotion captured here makes it worth a listen for pretty much anyone regardless of their musical interest.
Something about this brand of art punk that doesn't work for me. There's plenty of good bits but it never coalesces into something I really want to listen to again.
This is better than it looks and you can feel plenty of contemporary influence but it's not quite my thing still. Worth a listen definitely but doubt I'll go back to it.
