Some great tracks on here, but some drag a bit on the second half. Solid 4/5.
A classic and, IMO, one of his best. Five stars
Not a huge fan of Simon and Garfunkel. 2.5 stars.
A classic. I'd say parts haven't held up as well as "It Takes a Nation" but it's still great. Mid 3 to low 4 out of 5.
David Berman is one of the best songwriters of all time and this is one of his best.
Queen is not a band I've every real cared or thought much about. Their brand of theatrical, over the top, operatic, rock never appealed to me much. I like my rock music more sleezy and unpolished. Add to that that I tend to ignore overplayed "classic hits" that I tend to hear all the time whether I want to or not and this is a band I've ignored. All of that said, there are some bangers on this album. The best song here is '39, which is stripped down and doesn't even really sound like Queen. I'll give it 3/5 stars. Not my favorite, but solid.
This came out when I was in middle school and it was a huge album. Has it aged well? Yes and no. Production is top notch, but the album is plagued by dumb skits and misogynistic lyrics. Still a classic but not perfect.
I really did not enjoy this. Not sure who this album is for. Seems well liked by critics, but I pretty much hated it.
I understand some of the appeal of Cash, but for me it's more style than substance. In that I mean that the mythology around Cash is bigger that the substance of his records. He has limited vocal range and it shows. There are plenty of better country artists, if Cash is even Country. I like a few of the songs here and even like this album, but I don't think it's worthy of the iconic status that it has.
Of all the bands from the 1960's and 70's, the Doors might be the most overrated. These are mostly blues songs done poorly. Jim Morrison sounds terrible throughout the album. I'm unimpressed.
I like electronic music, but this, to me, seems like an odd pick for this project. If someone set out to make an album with the goal of selling as many tracks as possible to people interested in making car commercials, this is probably what it would sound like. I think there's better electonic music out there and Moby strikes me as a one trick pony.
