Needed this one to come up and remind me what an actual 6 star album sounds like. Not the most original opinion for this to be one of my favourite albums ever made I know, but it has to be up there. Every song builds off of the pageantry of the last, building a sprawling epic that maturely explores some deeply existential themes. The one-two punch of Time into Great Gig in the Sky in particular elevates me out of my chair. Only to pull you back into the retail addicted monotony of our modern day-to-day lives with the excellent Money.

This sounds great, people need to open themselves up to weirder sounds more. Especially the production of the music from Regiment, Help Me Somebody and The Jezebel Spirit, very danceable, infectiously so. I like these weirder albums. I should’ve given The Modern Dance a better chance.

Appreciate that ‘weird’ experimental albums are on this list. Even if they don’t get rated so well by everybody else it seems. I feel a lot of the sounds explored in this album inspire a lot of the more contemporary music I love today, for that PIL deserve their flowers. Don’t get me wrong, none of this is going on my playlists anytime soon, but it’s a cracking experience as an album.

Maybe it’s just because I got Metal Box before I got this one, but man, there is just nothing interesting me here at all. Just sounds astoundingly safe. Radio Free Europe is a very strong track though, credit where it’s due.

There’s so much personality in André 3000 and Big Boi’s performances, which brings a tonne of energy to the album. Combined with some very punchy production (Especially on tracks like Bombs over Baghdad and Xplosion) and it’s hard not to bob your head for the entirety of the hour+ runtime. Not sure I can get into the interludes to be honest. When I’m already a little weary about how long this album is, they just get a liiiiittle annoying. Wasn’t really pulled in by the humour of them either. Heavily felt some fatigue on the back half of the album. If this was trimmed down it’d be an all-timer.

There’s a fine line between weird music that’s good and weird music that is godawful to my ears. I recently gave Metal Box by Public Image Ltd 5 stars on here, but if that album was just a teensy bit zanier it would’ve been a one. I regret to say this album starting with a noise that would kill my nan on the spot is a teensy bit zanier.

Title song and N.I.B are 10/10 tracks. First half of the album is outstanding, the B side just isn’t as solid though, with Evil Woman and Sleeping Village probably being a 1-2 of the weakest songs on the album. Still, can’t ignore the brilliant, ominous, deeply occult aura of this album. I’m sure parent groups must’ve hated this on release back in the 70s! Feels very ahead of its time. There’s a harmonica solo, THEN a bass solo. Incredible really. Favourite Song: N.I.B Worst Song: Evil Woman, Don’t Play Your Games With Me

So much of this album is very outdated, with the corny, one-note flows, identical in just about every song in the album, couple with some weird lyrics (Think he said something about preferring underage girls in The New Style? Ick). On the bright side, the singles are great. Fight For Your Right and No Sleep Till Brooklyn both have such a rousing energy. Feels like in those two they actually get the rap/rock fusion correct, unlike the rest of the album. Those two songs do make me want to explore the rest of the Beastie Boys discography, I'm hoping they get it right on later releases. Favourite Song: No Sleep Till Brooklyn Worst Song: Girls

This album in particular is what got me not only into rap but listening to music seriously in general, listening to albums in full and engaging with them in a meaningful way. A part of me wishes somebody else's album did that for me but here we are. I miss the old Kanye.

As a man with zero memory of the 20th century, I hadn’t really ever heard Cat Stevens talked about amongst my peers. Sure, I’d heard ‘Wild World’ and ‘Father and Son’ before, but that was the height of it. This is what this generator is for really, because I would’ve gone my whole life never even thinking to listen to this, which would’ve been a shame, because it’s bloody fantastic.
