1. Moby Dick
2. Bring It On Home
3. Whole Lotta Love
A good sax solo will do that to people
Drums on "Blues for Huey" are unmatched
"Maesha" is really good
1. Life During Wartime
2. Drugs
3. Heaven
4. I Zimbra
Regular John is good, the rest is fine. Which pretty much sums up my experience with Queens of the Stone Age. If they're on, I'm not going to say turn them off but I'm also not going to turn them on in the first place.
Just a lot of fun, Oye Cómo Va being the standout
Is Racing in the Street one of Springsteen's best songs? Really good album though I think the hard rock sound for Adam Raised a Cain was the wrong way to go.
Very interesting experiment. I don't think it quite works all the time but I like it.
It's the Beatles, man! How can you not enjoy them? Side 1 is much better than side 2 though.
Solid album but overall, not terribly moved by it.
Kanye West is an awful person, this album isn't much better
He's grooving. And so am I.
I fucking hate that Eric Clapton is such a piece of shit because I did really enjoy parts of this album
I feel like there's a lot of potential here but it's lacking that something extra, which is probably energy. The atmospheric sound is interesting but at times it feels like they played a wrong note or didn't hold one for long enough. At the end of the day, it's fine I guess.
It's fine. Memory Gospel, a B-side, clears everything that did make it on the album by a country mile, except for maybe My Weakness.
Eh. It's alright. Some good stuff but also some mediocre stuff. 2.5/5
Perfect album if you're an angsty 14 year old. Sadly, those days have passed for me. In the End is still a banger though. 3/5 for nostalgia reasons.
Damn good album. Man on the Moon and Nightswimming the standouts.
Dinosaur Jr. just kicks ass
A lot of the lyrics in the back half of the album are very problematic, especially by today's standards but the power of this album is undeniable.
It's nice. Some good songs, nothing groundbreaking but it doesn't need to be. 3.5/5
Just aggressively mediocre. 2.5/5
There are some songs I really like but it's so stretched out. It's fine. 3.5/5
Genuinely don't know what to make of this album. There is some music in here that I adored followed by some music I was baffled by. There are also some off-putting lyrics. Really can't make heads or tails
Muddy Waters is just that guy.
Was expecting to like but not as much as I did. I loved this album.
The second half is like Pet Sounds-lite, which means it is still absolutely incredible. First half isn't too shabby either. 4.5/5
I'd probably rank The Bends fourth out of Radiohead's big four but The Bends to High and Dry to Fake Plastic Trees is an unmatched song run
The fuzzy, hazy guitar and Janis' voice? Chef's kiss.
James Brown! James Brown! He still is the godfather of soul y'all
Also I don't get the people who say crowd noise distracts on live albums. I love it, it adds energy to the recordings
It was funky, I had some fun but nothing special tbh
Just a banger album. 4.5/5
I don't understand the complaints about some of the songs being too long, grow up y'all.
Do you ever have that itch deep inside you that only certain music seems to scratch? Otis Redding's voice scratches that itch for me.
This was ass. Some of the instrumentation was fine before it eschewed any interesting directions and became generic, offensively inoffensive rock music. Combine that with self-indulgent, self-important, uninspiring lyrics you get some ass music.
Is it punk? Blues? Garage? All of them? Whatever it is, it's great
I can appreciate the blending of genres and styles but overall, it's just not really my thing. 2.5/5
I don't think I can say anything that hasn't already been said
The beats are great but the lyrics are less so
If I had to rank every album on this list, I feel like this one would end up right around the exact middle. Some fantastic moments but something is keeping me from loving it. 3.5/5
Not as good as Kid A but still very interesting and good
Such a good time, I'm a sucker for a good drum beat so I will be relistening in the future.
I think there's a time and mood that would make this a 5/5. Grading student essays is not the time or mood. It was still a very nice listening experience.
Interstellar Overdrive. That's it. That's the review. 4.5/5
Kate Bush AND Laurie Anderson!?! Yeah it's a good album
*insert Skate 3 clip of Jesus shredding for our sins*
I can understand why people dislike this album. I also disagree heavily with those people. This album has only gotten better for me with each listen.
The title track is the standout but I really enjoyed this album.
RIP Bowie, went out on a high note.
After the first three songs, I was thinking 5. It became a bit of a slog, so it dropped to 4. Then Green Eyes came on and I hated that song so it dropped to a 3. Upon further reflection, I do like the rest of it so 3.5/5.
Garbage (band & album name) this was (is?). Garbage (bad music) this was not.
This was nice and relaxing. Sarah Vaughan is obviously terrific but I also just feel a little meh about it. Great album cover though.
This was my first Morrissey solo album. While this isn't a bad album and there are some songs I quite like, this isn't the Smiths. Another review on here says this album makes you realize Johnny Marr was the heart of the Smiths. I don't agree with that. I think they're both the heart, they suit each other and make each other better. Though this album probably does need some Johnny Marr.
Also why are there more Morrissey solo albums than Smiths albums on this list?
When I first listened to Pink Moon, I thought it was fine but I didn't quite understand why everyone was so enamored with it so I hadn't listened to any of his other albums before getting assigned this one. I really liked this album so now I think I need to revisit Pink Moon. I'm older and wiser now, perhaps I'll understand it more. Bryter Layter gets a 4.5/5.
Just banger after banger. Love the way it seamlessly transitions from dance music to noisy, angry punk
Outside of Waterloo Sunset, it's just really forgettable. Not that it's bad, I just don't care that much. Indifferent.
Outside of the last two tracks, this was mid as hell. 2.5/5
I need to listen to more of Jorge Ben Jor immediately.
Technically proficient but so utterly soulless. Safe and uninteresting, boring, bland. The unseasoned chicken breast of music that you drink your lite beer with. Car commercial fodder.
Everybody Wants to Rule the World and Listen - two thumbs up
The rest of the album - it's fine
I never dislike R.E.M. but I hardly ever love them. This album is no different. 3.5/5.
I liked it, except for Slut. Bad song, kind of brings down the average.
I don't have a whole lot to say about this. I liked it. Didn't love it. 3.5/5. RIP Amy, I wish she would have been able to make more music
This is like the 5th highest rated album on rym. Is it good? Yes. Is it really good? Yes. Is it the fifth greatest album ever? No. Can I see why people might say that? Eh, kind of I guess. Still damn good, maybe it'll grow on me. 4.5/5
It's so fucking goofy. I love it.
I have a couple thoughts. 1) I can definitely see why this was popular and influential. The beats on this are really good. 2) As it seems with a lot of late 80s/early 90s hip hop, these lyrics age very poorly. 3) I feel like they could have cut out a lot of the sex packets stuff and had a better album that aged a little better. 4) OR they lean entirely into the sex packets stuff and explore more into how people would react to/use these packets. Either direction would have produced a better album I think
The first part of the album is really good, it kind of lost me in the middle, but the end really brought me back. 4.5/5.
Easily like top 3 grunge albums
Not really my thing but I respect it. There is more artistry here than some of the shit on this list.
I feel like I should like this album more than I do. It has a lot of the component parts of the music I tend to really like but for whatever reason, I'm kind of indifferent to this album. 3.5/5.
Closest an album can get to a 5 without being a 5.
I think the album goes on a little too long but it's damn good and I will be putting it into the rotation.
This site really needs to add half stars because this is the most 3.5 star album on the list.
Top 10, Top 15 albums all time.
At times fun but mostly boring. Outside of le freak, this album is super bland. 2.5/5
I don't get why the ratings are so low. The album is a little long but it's also really good, especially the Philip Glass and Scott Walker written songs. This is the closest they'll ever get me to care about Divine Comedy though.
There was some recent discourse on Twitter about how some bands (like the Cure or Smiths) are "singles bands" which is a totally ridiculous notion. Mainly because Queen is the real singles band. There's like 3 good songs here surrounded by a bunch of middling to bad ones
Perfect alternative rock background music 👍
I didn't expect this challenge to attract so many people with bad taste. What do you mean an average of 2.96? Get better ears y'all
Is this their best album (besides Led Zep IV)? Zeppelin was probably my favorite band in high school but, before this challenge, it had been a while since I listened to their albums in full. I remember liking this album but not putting it in the top tier of their albums. That has changed with the re-listen. Fantastic album. In the Light probably my favorite track. I think side four is probably the weakest but it is still a lot of fun.
