1001 Albums Summary

Ok album. Not really my thing. Nice playing of the band but not that into falsetto singing

Great album. Highlights: velouria is a classic, dig for fire, is she wierd. Best pixies album? Maybe not.

Chintzy vibes. Saccharine and maudlin. Voice has the emotional range of a fan coil unit. Couldn’t make it through the whole album.

Bit of a weird creepy vibe.

Quite progressive. Wooden ships was a favourite moment

Songwriting isn’t great. Production hasn’t aged well. Mid.

As good as lounge music gets? Not quite, but almost. I like the trip hop influence to the album. The sound is great. Has some good moments. Ultimately it can feel a bit shallow, by resorting to breakbeats and non-sequitur samples, it kinda avoids eye contact a bit. Olsen and Roygbiv stand up pretty well and sound pretty fresh nearly 30 years later.

A few good tracks but generally too much teenage angst

Really good album. Amazing chops, and quite groundbreaking in terms of the sound, musicianship. Ramble on slaps.

Alexis Petridis? More like Awrongis Petridis. This is not Youngs best album. Iconic but I can’t give it a 5

Its not bad, just ok

It’s got some nice moments, but it felt a bit reliant on bjorkisms, and the production was a bit off. Some of the sounds were incongruous. Stonemilker and history of touches were high points and there were good ideas but overall just a 3

Not a huge fan of this

2 bit album. I don’t find the lyrics interesting, and I certainly don’t find the music interesting. The guitar sounds farty and the singing is devoid of range and depth.

Based off the name, and the high number of covers, I assumed this would be a joke album or a bit of a gimmick. Surf rock riffs with bongos and blaxsploitation style funk with bongos. And those hiphop sample moments. It’s fine, and at times, pretty good actually.

Nice album, quite enjoyed it. Good guitar, drumming - love the bass playing. Vocals are a bit mid and songwriting although complex didn’t do that much for me

Not his best wor

Ambitious concept album. Didn’t hate it, however it has some big problems: her voice is a bit robotic and polished without conveying feel. The production is often very run of the mill, and cery commercial sounding- which is odd for a concept album. the drums sound very generic for example, and there is simply too much going on. It’s a big hot mess. There are lots of bad guitar solos.

Pretentious prog rock, very unsexy, can see this being popular with very badly dressed real ale drinkers above a certain age.

Loved this album, as did my 9 month old. Clearly works on a lot of levels

Great album..was hovering between a 4 and 5.

I normally hate all forms of graffiti as it’s vandalism and usually illegal, but in this case I make an exception as it turns out it’s not literally graffiti, but an album name. 5 stars!
