A Seat at the Table
SolangeOkay, I really love this. I love the stories interspersed throughout. I love the musical style. I love the message. It’s just good all around.
Okay, I really love this. I love the stories interspersed throughout. I love the musical style. I love the message. It’s just good all around.
This is really interesting, partly because I can’t quite figure out what it is. There are times I think I hear Arabic, and then times when I think I hear French. And it sounds mostly Arabic, but then sometimes it doesn’t. It’s so interesting.
Okay, I’m not going to lie, I actually really love this. It’s so calming and relaxing. Daughter liked it, too.
I enjoyed this one. It was completely different to anything else I’ve heard in this collection so far, and it was nice to listen to. It was interesting and pretty varied and felt like it was introducing me to world music.
I quite like world music, so I enjoyed this one.
I was only really familiar with the more mellow of their songs, so I didn't realize they used so much electric guitar. Also, they definitely have an 80s sound, though this is a 70s album.
Enjoyed listening to the Rolling Stones. Would listen to more of them.
Dancing Queen is one of my favorite songs, so I enjoyed that one. Found Dum Dum Diddle peppy and Tiger sort of catchy. Otherwise, enjoyed listening but not enough to buy the album.
The very first notes were pretty jarring. So far I like the songs themselves, but I’m not a huge fan of the electric guitar heaviness. I like the vocals and the melodies, but the electric guitar makes my ears want to bleed.
I'm finding it difficult to get through this one. I don't really like the heavy electric guitar, and I find the songs really repetitive.
I think I may have enjoyed this one the most of what I've listened to so far. I didn't actually know most of the songs on this album, but I liked pretty much all of them.
That was extremely enjoyable. This is the first album that I would actually consider downloading for repeat listening. I had heard "Green Onions" on the radio, but I also liked the other songs. "Behave Yourself" stuck out to me.
I didn't love the album, but I didn't hate it. The last song, "Along the Banks of Rivers," caught my attention the most.
I’m finding this one okay. I don’t really love it, but I don’t hate it. I can manage to listen through it without wanting to turn it off, but it’s not something I’d really choose on my own.
I liked the music pretty well, though I found some of the extra sounds on the tracks a little strange.
I actually enjoyed the song that came on from a different album more than this one. This was another one that I found okay but not really compelling.
It's good background music, but not something I’d sit and listen to specifically for the listening experience.
I liked every song on this album, and I think the organization of the album was really good, too.
This album has a bit of a New Age sound to my ears, though Wikipedia tells me it is an Icelandic rock band. I remember hearing about them before, but I can’t remember exactly why. I like the album pretty well.
I didn't love this album, but I found it okay to listen to. I'm not going to download it, but I didn't mind listening to it.
I find some of the songs more enjoyable than others. Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of gravelly voices, so it’s not my favorite, but it’s okay.
I love it. I like blues music, and I like music from the 60s. And the live version of this was not nearly as annoying as live rock music.
I mean, it sort of sounds like most any other alternative rock band of the 90s. It’s alright, but not really anything to write home about.
I don't enjoy metal at all, so I was glad when this one was over. I can see how it is a good example of the genre, though.
I like 60s music, so I liked this one pretty well. I liked BB King better, but this one was good.
That was enjoyable.
You know, I don’t really mind the sound – it’s the kind of harder sound that I actually like. But the lyrics put me off. There’s a bit too much swearing for me; I appreciate a well-placed swear for emphasis, but this is gratuitous. There’s also some misogyny in there that bothers me.
The amount of instrumental tracks surprised me, but I liked this one, probably better than many of the 80s albums I've heard.
I like the sound of this one. This is one I would consider buying and would look into more of his music.
This feels like listening to the Oldies station with my mom on car drives. :) Another pleasant listen, with the folk sound that I like.
I’d never listened to 80s country, but I liked this. I also liked the stuff that came on afterwards on Spotify.
I didn’t mind the sound of this one, but I didn’t find it particularly memorable. It’s almost got a little bit of a 60s sound on some of the tracks, but a definite 90s sound on others.
I liked this one.
The beginning actually reminds me a little bit of the Kidrock album from last week. I guess that was a sound for that time period. I like the rest of the album (after the first track) better, though I still wouldn’t buy the album.
I liked this, but it wasn’t particularly memorable.
Okay, so this is great. I don’t really know why I haven’t been more into Queen before. This album has a sort of cinematic sound. I loved the quirkiness of the second song. They are so varied! Like, they have so much versatility in their style, and I think it’s fantastic.
Honestly, so many of these British rock bands from the 80s and 90s just sound the same to me. And this one has some really annoying songs where they repeat the same thing over and over again and just wear me out.
Meh. S’okay. A little weird.
This one was pretty good.
So far this is not my favorite kind of music. Will have to see what the rest of the tracks bring. Okay, I found that to be okay. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t end up hating it.
I really like this one! I would consider downloading this one for listening again.
This is a very pleasant jazz album, and I’m actually really excited to see something from the 50s come up. I don’t think I had ever really listened to any Miles Davis before, although I’d heard lots about him.
I know this first song! I don’t think I knew it was by Carole King. I feel like I’ve heard of her but didn’t really know anything about her. And I know the second one, too. I guess she’s a pop queen of the 70s.
So far I like this one. I think the soundbites add some interest to the songs, and I like the sound of Spanish music. I liked this one a lot. I would consider downloading this one.
This one was pleasant. I liked it pretty well, but I don’t feel a need to download it.
I liked this one pretty well.
This one was interesting. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t really love it all that much.
I have never really heard this kind of music, but I like it so far. It was an interesting mix of styles to my ear. It was good to be introduced to something new, but I don’t need to download it.
This is my wheelhouse! Loved hearing some R&B; takes me right back to my high school days.
So some of these songs surprise me. There’s a harder sound, and then suddenly there’s something that sounds almost folky.
I liked that album. It was good background music.
I feel mixed about this album. I mostly like it, but there’s stuff that sort of annoys me on it, like I can only understand what he’s saying about half the time.
I was surprised at this one. Honestly, the cover art had me a little nervous that it would be kind of hard and creepy sounding, but I didn’t mind it. It’s definitely 90s; not sure it would find a hold in today’s milieu.
I quite like world music, so I enjoyed this one.
Finally, a rap album! I’m wondering how I’m going to feel about this one, though, as I’m not a big fan of glorifying violence. So I actually liked this one more than I thought I might.
I liked this one. It was pretty good background noise and nothing really annoying in it.
I feel like this is such an iconic album, and I’ve never listened to it. And why have I never really listened to Prince in general? I’m not sure why he wasn’t played on the stations I listened to growing up. I liked this one pretty well and am still perplexed at the lack of Prince in my growing up radio life.
I think I like early rap better than late 90s and 2000s rap. I think it had a different sound and purpose. And I think my own feelings of “I don’t like rap” from that time period were probably colored by my influences.
Wow, this hit the ground running. And I definitely hear the 80s in this so far. I like this one. It’s something I wouldn’t mind hearing on the radio, but I don’t like it enough to actually buy it or search out more.
Not sure why I never really listened to Willie Nelson. I like his voice, and I like older country. So far, I’m enjoying this one.
Liked it.
I liked this one better than yesterday’s, though not as much as Purple Rain. I think maybe I’m not as into 80s music as I once thought.
This one was okay. I don’t really prefer albums where the person is sort of speaking the song, so I guess I didn’t like it as much as the other album by him that I’ve listened to with this project.
The first track sort of turned me off, but then I liked the rest of them. I would listen to more of them.
I think this one was more accessible to me than some of his more drug-strung-out ones.
I’ve never heard of them, but I like the description on Wikipedia of folk-rock. I tend to like that, so I anticipate that I will like this one. I really like this one. I would buy their albums.
This album is really interesting because it really doesn’t have that mid-90s sound. I like it, though.
I liked this album, but I usually like the 60s albums so not really a surprise. I will admit that I got a little annoyed by the repeat of some songs, but that’s partially my whole not loving live concert albums.
Okay, I’m not going to lie, I actually really love this. It’s so calming and relaxing. Daughter liked it, too.
So there are parts of this album that I like okay and other parts that annoy me.
Wow, nothing like getting off to a loud start! It was okay. Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it.
It’s so interesting to listen to this because it sounds so tame to us now, but I just have to imagine how scandalous it sounded to adult ears at the time.
I feel…ambivalent about this one? Like, I sort of like the music, but I also sort of find her voice annoying. And the slightly obsessive part of me was really annoyed by the “lie-lock” wine song.
Nothing particularly stands out to me, but it was pleasant listening.
So this is kind of unexpected. I don’t hate it. It’s not at all what I expected. It’s sort of a whole mood type of album.
Ah, so I see where KidRock got his inspiration now. You know, I didn’t hate this, but so many of the songs just sounded the same to me. It didn’t really inspire me. It wasn’t so bad that I couldn’t make it through, but it just really isn’t my thing.
I can really hear the beginning of the 80s in this one. It’s…strange. I don’t hate it, but I find it mildly annoying, mostly when the guy is sort of yelling.
I don’t think I’ve ever actually listened to the Sex Pistols, even though I’ve most definitely heard of them. Wait, why does this guy sound like the lead singer on the B-52’s? You know, I’m not really digging this album so far. Okay, so yeah. I don’t really like hard rock. I’m a big fan of alt-rock, but hard rock is not my thing.
Yep. Don’t like this.
This is so much better after the previous two albums. Honestly, it could be something I wouldn’t like much on its own, but hearing it after two albums I really didn’t like gives it a boost. So yeah, I do like this one. It’s definitely heading toward that alt-rock vibe that I prefer, and it’s good background listening music. I might actually consider looking up more of them for further listening.
Didn’t have a chance to listen. Didn’t hate what I heard, but a little too much language for my taste generally.
false
This has got that kind of 80s pop music feel to it. Like…I imagine smiling people bopping their heads to it when it came on in the car.
Okay, I really love this. I love the stories interspersed throughout. I love the musical style. I love the message. It’s just good all around.
This one was okay. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it. I can appreciate the space for this kind of music, but it is not something I would choose to listen to very often.
I enjoyed this one. It was completely different to anything else I’ve heard in this collection so far, and it was nice to listen to. It was interesting and pretty varied and felt like it was introducing me to world music.
I honestly didn’t think I’d like this one, but I did! I guess the whole country punk thing is up my alley.
I appreciate the importance of jazz, especially from older times, but I don’t really love this type of jazz that much. I was quite impressed by the saxophonist, though!
I liked that pretty well! I didn’t really know what to expect, but it was pretty good listening for doing the dishes and such. :)
Some of these songs surprised me. There was one that was a little 50s-esque, but I swear it was all sexual innuendo. And it was just generally…not as heavy as I expected.
This one was solidly 80s and good background music. I give it a solid 4.
So I’m a sucker for world music, so I love this so far, although the Spotify link says 1969, not 1987. Love.
This was an interesting concept album. It made for decent background music, but not really something I’d want to listen to multiple times.
I liked this pretty well actually.
I honestly don’t really see how this one is so much different/better than the typical 90s electronica. I mean, it wasn’t bad, but I didn’t find it to be anything special.
I liked this one a lot in some spots and not as much in other spots. I’m not a huge fan of the jazz improv thing where a soloist goes on and on and on and on… But I generally liked it.
Okay, I’m really excited about this one because I really like the Beach Boys! And I already know some of these songs. And it didn’t disappoint. Some of the songs weren’t as good as others, but it was pretty good as a whole.
I really like this so far. It reminds me a little bit of Lior, who is one of my very favorite artists. So there were some songs I really liked and others not as much. I think in general I would look for more of this artist.
So I didn’t mind the beginning of this album, but I’m finding the last couple of songs to be really annoying. I’m ready for it to be over now.
This album is…strange? It’s almost got a feel like a musical.
This is a very 80s sound. Daughter and I enjoyed it as background music.
So I really like this! I think I would consider buying this whole album, actually.
This already sounds very 80s right from the start. Yeah, I don’t really like this. It’s not my cup of tea. It’s not so much 80s as…heavy metal?
This album went by so smoothly, I didn’t even recognize when it was done. It was pleasant enough to listen to that I didn’t find myself wanting to turn it off, but nothing really caught my attention, either.
Ooh, this is right up my alley – acoustic, singer-songwriter! I really liked this one and would definitely look up more from this artist.
So I don’t hate this, but I don’t really love it. I can hear the beginnings of disco in it, and I think I’m not the biggest fan of disco.
I sort of liked and didn’t like this album. It was just *slightly* too country twang for my taste, but I didn’t really hate it. I also found some of the songs to be surprisingly relevant.
Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it. Just sort of alright.
Wow, I just really hate this so much. It sounds like experimental music, I guess, and I just really hate it.
This was pleasant to listen to.
This one surprised me. I for some reason thought Pink Floyd was very rock, but it’s…mellow. I guess it’s sort of stoner, and maybe that’s why it’s got that whole cult following.
That was quite enjoyable. I liked her voice, and I liked the smoothness of it. I mean, this is sort of where the idea of “smooth” jazz came from, right?
I mean, Joni Mitchell is classic, and surprisingly, I’d never actually listened to one of her albums. I enjoyed this one and would look for more of her in the future.
Yeah, I still don't like heavy metal.
This album is surprising. There’s piano solos and rock and just all kinds of stuff. It was such a variety of music on this album that it kept me interested.
I don’t hate the music in this, but the content is not my favorite.
This is an interesting mix of styles. I don’t really know what I expected it to be, but it’s more diverse than I expected.
I liked most of this album, though there were a few songs that didn't quite hit the right spot.
This album definitely confirms the stoner vibe for me. ;) It wasn’t bad to listen to, but I still think it’s not going to be something I come back to over and over.
This one was interesting and great background mood music.
The lead singer reminds me just a tad of the B52s. I feel like that sound must have been popular in the late 70s, as I’ve now had a couple of albums like that. Not a bad album in general, though not one I need to seek out more.
I actually really like this album. I would actually look up more by them and consider getting an album for my playlist.
The Carpenters is always a good one. It was nice to have an album I like on my birthday. ;)
Okay, yep. Still don’t like metal. Not sure I’ll make it too far into this one before I just turn it off. Yeah, I’m definitely not making it through this one. I think it’s probably the worst of the metal albums I’ve had on here. I think I’d give it 0 stars if I could.
I really wanted to like this album, especially as it was his last (?), but I didn't really. I found it too repetitive and just...weird.
Nothing like getting into the hard swearing right off the bat. It’s getting better as it gets further into the record. There was definitely a point where there was just so much swearing that I wasn’t sure I wanted to listen to the rest of it. I like the sound, and some of the content is appealing to me. Other parts of it, I don’t like as much, but…it might be a cultural thing?
I like some of this okay and other of it not as well. I feel a little guilty about that because I’m sure some of it is just cultural. However, even though I don’t really like electric guitar that much, I can appreciate how impressive Hendrix’s guitar skills are.
This is pretty enjoyable, actually. I hadn’t ever heard of them, but I do like reggae.
I don’t love his voice, but I don’t mind it either. It’s definitely pretty classic, and not as hard as some stuff, so I liked it pretty well.
This one was alright. I still don’t think I like The Who as well as I thought I should, but I certainly like this one better than that live one.
The very beginning stuff was a bit too hard and electric for my taste, but it got a little more to my taste later in the album. Not too bad, but I don’t know that I’d be looking them up.
I really enjoyed this one. In fact, I wonder why I don’t actually have any Madonna albums. I pretty much like every song of hers I hear, so…that’s a mystery.
This album was alright. I didn’t really love it, but I didn’t hate it.
There were parts of this album I liked quite a lot and other parts that I found kind of loud and annoying.
So I really like Meat Loaf. I knew that I liked that one song that came out in the 90s and got all popular, but I pretty much like all of this album as well. It’s got that sort of ballad-y sound that Queen has that I totally missed out on since I didn’t really listen to 70s music.
Well, it’s the Beatles, so it’s hard-pressed to be bad. ;) I liked this one, and it was interesting because they sounded young still to me on this one.
Sort of standard 90s alternative, I think. I liked it, but it wasn’t particularly memorable to me.
This is really interesting, partly because I can’t quite figure out what it is. There are times I think I hear Arabic, and then times when I think I hear French. And it sounds mostly Arabic, but then sometimes it doesn’t. It’s so interesting.
I quite liked this album. I had only heard one or two songs by Earth, Wind & Fire previously, so it was nice to hear more by them.
So this is definitely the kind of 70s music I wish I’d heard more of growing up. I like this one, very groove, funk.
I generally liked this one, though I found some of the songs a bit…strange? I usually like singer-songwriters, though, and this one was pretty good.
This has an unfinished sound, which is kind of interesting. I’m also not sure if some of the songs are covers of earlier songs? At any rate, I don’t hate their sound, but I’m not in love with it. And some of the songs toward the end were definitely just too hard for me.
I remember hearing about Amy Winehouse, but I never really listened to any of her music. I like 60s music, and this is inspired by that era, so I liked it pretty well. It was smooth to listen to.
I mean, I knew I would like this one because I like Simon & Garfunkel. I have to say I was thrown by the electric sound at the beginning, but I liked it better after that.
Yeah, this is again in my favorite eras and genres of music, so I am a big fan of this. Also, I was surprised to see that this was her 12th studio album! I didn’t realize she had recorded so many by this time!
I heard “Chan Chan” in college in…music theory, I think? Anyway, I really liked that song, so I anticipate liking the rest of the album. Yes, I absolutely loved this album. It was so relaxing and beautiful and just good. I should download it.
I have to say the title of this made me a little nervous that it would be a metal band, but I actually quite enjoyed this one. It was really good.
Yeah, I don’t really find this enjoyable at all, beyond “Tainted Love,” which I probably only enjoy for the nostalgia of that commercial when I was in high school. Most of these songs I find annoying. A couple aren’t so bad, but generally, not my thing. Just realized the ones I like are covers of older songs, so…yeah.
I mean, I don’t hate electronica, and this is pretty decent so far. I don’t consider myself the biggest electronica fan, but I found this fairly enjoyable. It was not a pain to listen to at all.
This was extremely pleasant background music for the stuff I was doing around the house. I was a little leery because sometimes I find the improv parts of jazz to be annoying, but this combination of instruments and chill sound worked well for me.
This album was…interesting. I wouldn’t say I loved it, but I didn’t hate it. It was just a bit strange to my ears.
This one was alright to listen to. Honestly, I didn’t find it particularly memorable, but I didn’t find it annoying, either. It was pretty decent.
I like these beginning chord progressions. Although, the music is sort of drowning out the lyrics. This is another of those albums where I like some of the songs and find others a little annoying and/or a little too electric for my general taste.
This one was alright. I knew a couple of the songs, but there were some that were a bit strange, lyric-wise. Which I guess is to be expected with the album title.
I’ve always been a fan of 50s rock and roll, so I quite enjoyed this, though it was quite difficult to actually find this particular album. I ended up cobbling together most of the songs from different albums to sort of listen to it. Anyway, it was enjoyable.
This one was interesting. I’m finding that I don’t hate electronica. I mean, I don’t *love* it, but it’s alright sometimes.
I’m enjoying this more than the other album by them that I heard. It’s a little less hard to my ears, I guess. I actually like some of the songs.
I already knew I liked the Beatles, so it’s no surprise to me that I enjoyed this album. I like their earlier stuff more than later stuff, and I hadn’t heard a lot of these covers before. It was nice to hear some stuff I hadn’t heard before.
This one surprised me a little. I wasn’t really sure I would like it, but it’s pleasant with some surprising instrumental pieces that I enjoyed.
I wasn’t sure I would like this, since it’s listed as hard rock, but I actually like it pretty well. I wonder if maybe I just like the 70s more than I thought, since I’d not had as much opportunity to listen to it growing up. Like I think the 70s hard rock is different from the 80s and even the 60s.
I liked this one pretty well, though I don’t know that I would look up more on purpose. I wouldn’t turn it if it came on, though. This is in my wheelhouse era of music, so I was pretty sure I would like it.
I like soul and funk, so I’m not surprised that I’m enjoying this album. It’s got a nice groove for whatever you need to do around the house. That instrumental song was a delightful surprise, as well. It was quite a nice listen.
I like this quite a bit, though I anticipated I would, as it’s sort of in the space of the things I typically like. I hadn’t heard of them before, and I honestly had a hard time understanding a lot of the words – I wondered if some of them were in Gaelic, since it’s a Scottish band. But I generally liked it.
This first song is totally throwing me for a loop, as I was under the impression that Black Sabbath was metal, and this is totally ballad and nice. I like this first one. And the second one has a similar sound. I am so confused right now. So I’m wondering if I misunderstood what the sound of metal bands really is or if this is an atypical album for them. I actually liked it, and I usually don’t much care for metal.
This album has more of a country sound to my ears, but Wikipedia says it’s a rock album. Either way, I like it. I don’t know that I’d necessarily look up more by this artist, but I did enjoy this album. It was good music for chilling.
I like the beginning of this one. It has an alternative sound, which is my jam. I really liked this album and would look up more of this band. I’m surprised I didn’t hear more of it when it was new.
So I don’t really love this album so far. It’s not terrible, but I don’t really like his voice and singing style all that much. Honestly, I don’t even want to listen to the whole album. It’s just not my jam.
I feel like I’ve been deceived about 70s rock bands my whole life. There are all these bands that I’ve heard of but had been given the impression that they were hard rock/metal, Alice Cooper included. I actually like the beginning of this album. And I’m beginning to think there’s a whole decade of rock I’ve missed out on my whole life. So I found that I didn’t love this album, but I didn’t hate it, as I feared I would when I thought it was going to be metal.
I like most world music albums I hear, and this one was no exception. It was good background music for kiddo and me while we played a card game.
I liked “I’m Only Happy When It Rains,” when it was on the radio, but it was a time when you had to buy the entire album for one song. I never got to know the rest of the album as a result, but I will probably enjoy it. To be honest, I don’t think I would have liked this back when it came out, but I definitely see it fitting into my music tastes at times now. It suits my mood today.
So far I’m finding this just okay. I don’t hate it, but it’s not really jumping at me, either. Honestly, it’s just a lot of the same, and by the middle of the album, it was starting to grate on me.
I found the first song to actually be a little bit jarring, but I settled into the music after a couple of songs. I feel like I have heard the song “Alright” before, though I do not recall hearing of this band previously. In the end, I found this album alright (heh), but not really one I’d make an effort to hear again.
To be quite honest, I just wasn’t in the mood to listen to this. It’s not the worst thing I’ve ever heard, but it just didn’t strike my fancy. So I only listened to a few songs before turning it off.
Right off the bat, I pretty much hate this. It’s so loud, and it’s just grating on me today. I am feeling pretty mellow, so that’s not helpful. But I’m not sure I’d like it much anyway. I don’t even want to listen to it, so I’m moving on.
Honestly, I listened to this while doing other things, so I don’t even really remember it. I think I liked it alright, though it wasn’t stellar.
This is pleasant to start with. Of course, my history shows that I usually highly rate global albums, so there’s that. This was an enjoyable album and good background music for the other things I had going on.
I liked this one, as I anticipated I might. It was nice background music for what I was doing around the house, and it was a genre that I enjoy.
As much as I really wanted to like this one, I mostly found it too repetitive for my taste. I do like his voice and can hear the good guitar playing, but I didn't really enjoy listening to it all that much.
I had mixed feelings about this one. I liked parts of it and found other parts of it to be a bit repetitive and annoying.
This was okay for me. I didn't really love it, but I can see its appeal to people who enjoy this type of music. It was just sort of eh to me.
As I expected, I really enjoyed this one. I would definitely put this on a playlist.
I don't hate the sound of this, but I find some of the lyrics to be...annoying? It's alright, but I wouldn't add it to my music library.
