Tonight's The Night
Neil YoungI can't believe I'm saying this, but Neil made a good album here. I really enjoyed it! Favourite track: World on a String.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but Neil made a good album here. I really enjoyed it! Favourite track: World on a String.
While there were a few highlights in the first half, come the end the songs were rolling past unnoticed. Best song: Bullet The Blue Sky.
Very consistent and enjoyable. Favourite track: Strange Meadow Lark.
I'm not a big fan of rockabilly or live albums, but this had some really enjoyable tracks. That said, if it ran longer I could see it being rated lower. Favourite track: Your Cheating Heart.
I feel like I may end up saying this a lot in this journey, but this is another album that's mostly fine with a few highlights and a few lows and leaves me feeling ambivalent towards towards it. Favourite track: Ballad of a Thin Man.
Enjoyable. Favourite track: Runaway Child, Running Wild.
I’ve never listened to The Who before so didn’t know what to expect. I really enjoyed this album, great sound and enjoyable lyrics. Favourite track: Baba O'Riley.
Leonard Cohen excels at writing songs about women, and as that’s most of what this album was I had a blast. Favourite track: Winter Lady.
I usually like feminine vocals more than masculine, and when I first saw todays album was by a woman I was really excited. Sadly the first some didn’t do anything for me, and while there were a few songs that hit the whole album failed to create a vibe that captivated me. Favourite track: Concrete and Barbed Wire.
Favourite Track: Rock My Plimsoul.
Out of all the three stars so far, this may be my favourite. Great sound and some songs I recognised (hello Gotta Get Up!). Favourite track: Without You.
I love the historical context of this album and enjoyed it's varied sound. Shout out to Sex Machine for reminding me of Splatoon so much. Favourite Track: Sing A Simple Song.
My side quest to become a hip hop fan has been greatly boosted by this album - I loved it! Favourite tracks: A Day at the Races.
Like French, horror coded Randy Newman - a mix J'adore! Favourite track: Rue des tempetes.
Nirvana are a perfectly passable band who make perfectly passable music that all blends together into a blob of fine. Nothing was bad, but by the time Something In The Way and Endless, Nameless I was starved for anything interesting and these two tracks did give me a little hope. I just described this album to a co-worker as one which sets up to dive only to walk back down the stairs. Favourite track: Something In The Way.
Passive music that doesn't excel... I have spent a lot of time in Excel today. Favourite track: The Man Who Would Be King
Easy listening, fun presentation. Favourite track: Crown of Love.
This album nothing for me. Favourite track: Career Opportunities.
Loving that Buffalo Springfield sound when it hits. Favourite track: Lo and Behold.
As this started and the first two tracks didn't blow me away there was a moment when I feared Bowie was overrated. The the third track played, and the fourth, and so on and this album turned out pretty great. Favourite track: Drive-In Saturday.
Atmosphere can only get you so far and all of these tracks are repetitive and too long. Most endurable track: Oh Lord, Give Us More Money.
I have never listened to a Kate Bush album before, but I am a Bush fan. Seeing Running Up That Hill as the first track and my all time favourite Kate Bush song on this album got me really excited, and I am sad to say that this album was only fine. A third great and a third forgettable, sadly this album doesn't get a recommendation from me and I really hope Kate can win me back next time. Favourite track: Cloudbusting
More of this reminded me of the Sims 3 soundtrack than I care to admit. Favourite track: Poor Boy.
Do I like Hair Metal?? Favourite Track: Beating Gets Faster.
Another one of these albums that sounds like most of the other albums... Favourite track: Lonesome Suzie.
I had already listened to Inner City Blues at some point and had it liked. Three stars feels like such a nebulous space but this isn't good enough for four. This is why I like half stars! Favourite track: Save The Children.
Another one of those albums that started hopeful and then fell into the 3 star range. I look forward to listening to more Zeppelin tho! Favourite track: The Battle of Evermore.
This album sounds like classical Hollywood and Christmas specials. Favourite track: Love Is Here To Stay.
I can't wait for more Neil Young. Favourite track: Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere.
Lucky to be a three star as it was a bit too trance for me. Favourite track: The Weekend Starts Here.
This album felt cosy and warm. Favourite track: Just One Of Those Things.
It starts with a certified banger and then just keeps going with songs that aren't as good and all mesh together and then suddenly BOOM Anything Goes. Favourite track: You Make Me Feel so Young.
The Clash clashed with my taste. Favourite track: Hateful.
I wish this scored higher because I really liked it. Sadly the numbers don't like and although I lived every track not enough of them were memorable and it sits just below the threshold for a four star. Favourite track: Mind Over Matter.
Good music, not great music. Favourite track: If I Was Your Girlfriend.
You start with two decent tracks and then the rest is bad? Favourite track: Rockafeller Skank.
Just last week I was talking to my co-worker about how I'd never listened to an Adele album despite humming her songs regularly. Fixed. Favourite track: Someone Like You.
Sadly this one didn't grab me like I wanted it to. Favourite track: Love to the People.
This is only the second non-greatest hits Queen album I've listened to, although I think I enjoyed this more than their "greatest hits"! That said, favourite track, of course: Bohemian Rhapsody.
I liked this for the most part, but was also left with that old "I wish I liked this more" feeling... Favourite track: S.O.F.T.
Sort of a lot of nothing. Favorutie track: Don't Be Square (Be There)
I guess this is a hard album title to live up to but there was more bollocks on this than I was expecting. Favourite track: Pretty Vacant.
This album was very consistent, with highs and lows regularly. The big issue is after an hour and a half you feel the lows more than the highs. Favourite track: Dracula's Wedding.
I really struggled with this one and kept zoning out. Favourite track: Walk This Way.
I liked this, a couple of the songs are great but it also did little to excel. Favourite track: So It Shall Be.
I liked the energy but not the album. Favourite track: Jersey Girls.
You know when you turn on the radio in Fallout? Favourite track: The Lip.
No 21. Favourite track: Send My Love (To Your New Lover)
Don't google musicians I guess. Would I have liked this more if I didn't? We may never know. I found some of the lyrics unpleasant and some of the sound bad thought. Favourite track: Tourniquet.
I love Robbie, but have never listened to one of his albums before. This confirmed that was a mistake - it has some of his greatest hits nothing misses. The middle stint from Ego Agogo to Let Me Entertain You is stunning. Favourite track: Angels (basic).
This album reminded me of the Beatles if the Beatles were dull and had one sound. The track titles were very enjoyable. Favourite track: The Good Humor Man He Sees Everything.
This album was wild in all the best ways! A fun time was had, the adventure was real. Favourite track: They Are Night Zombies!! They Are Neighbors!! They Have Come Back From the Dead!! Ahhhh!
Sonic soundtracks be like: Favourite track: Peaches En Regalia.
I guess I don't like Madonna... Favourite track: I Deserve It.
Really enjoyed the vibe and energy! Favourite track: Safesurfer.
Fine, and weirdly Christmassy. Favourite track: Tokyo Storm Warning.
This was my favourite album for most of my teenage years, enough said. Favourite tracks: I Wish You Would and Wildest Dreams (They are both top tier music for me and need to be acknowledged).
Just a bit dull, innit. Favourite track: Soma.
I enjoyed this one but it peaks at the start and that’s sad. Favourite track: I Should've Known.
This album made time fly and was never unpleasant. Favourite track: Slow Ride.
Elevator music, but the good kind. I'm never sure how I feel about these repetitive types of beats. Favourite track: Spring.
Oh boy did I find this really dull. Oops! Favourite track: What She Said.
I don't like Bayonetta as a game but this album sounds like Bayonetta looks and that is a vibe I can get behind! Favourite track: As Heaven is Wide.
I was expecting this to be a 4 star but alas it didn’t quite make it. I love the lyrics and story telling, it’s the closest something has gotten to Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds musically without being Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds. Favourite track: Die Dreigroschenoper Tango Ballet.
Great first and last tracks but the in between didn’t do it for me. Favourite track: 5000 Miles West of the Future.
More of the interesting albums, less of this. Favourite track: She Floated Away.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of the last Smashing Pumpkins album on this list, but honestly this was a treat! I enjoyed most of the songs a bunch, but like with a lot of longer albums I did get fatigued by the end. Favourite track: Zero.
My main complaint is that it’s only 7 tracks. Favourite track: Unfunky UFO.
Starting off sounding like Big Brother but ending up reminding me of Girl Ray. Favourite track: Flipside.
You Can Call Me Al gave me a jump scare of recognition. Overall this was fine, didn't blow me away but also didn't drain me. Favourite track: Graceland.
I found this very dull and kept zoning out even when giving it my full attention. Favourite track: Southern Man.
A lot of nonsense but also some gems (Glass Onion my beloved!). Favourite track: Honey Pie.
I’ve spent the last 5 days having my brain rattled by theme parks so some jazz is a lovely and needed come down. Favourite track: So What.
This is a three star album. Favourite track: Stop.
I listened to this in between issues of Star Wars Bounty Hunters and it was the perfect space outlaw soundtrack. Favourite song: More Than A Feeling.
I like the Beatles... I think? Yes. Maybe? Oh no... Favourite track: She's Leaving Home.
I usually like the start of albums more than the ends, but 77 flipped that on its head - for the first half I was sure this would be 2 stars then suddenly I had to buy some potato's because this brought the bangers. Favourite track: No Compassion.
I liked it. Favourite track: Que' Onda Guero
Great first track then it's Stumble of the Conchords. Favourite track: Safe From Harm.
It samples Star Wars and references Star Wars so this was always going to be positive. Favourite track: Goldfinger.
Exploring music over the year so far has been both fun and informative. Example: At the start of the year I would have never guessed I was into metal. Another example: At the start of the year I didn't know how much didn't care about disco. Favourite track: Love Less.
This was an album. That's it - that's the review. Favourite track: Like A Song...
Somewhere between the Crash Team Racing OST, Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds, and 80's Doctor Who. Favourite track: Golden Lady.
When I first listened to this album a couple of years ago I really didn't think Eminem would be for me. I was shocked how much I enjoyed the album then and I am still slightly surprised when I revisit it and still have a blast! This album feels like a time capsule of a moment - listening to it you can see why it became a phenomenon and while it's yet to inspire me to check out more of Eminem's work it has earned a place among my favourites. Favourite Track: 97' Bonnie & Clyde.
Mostly not my thing, sometimes a little my thing, “huh, that word by this band makes me uncomfortably”. Favourite track: L'America.
Introvert by Little Simz is an album I really like, so when this came up I was really excited to get into it - I’ve heard it before, but as I knew Introvert better that was my go to so this was always second. I have been living my life wrong - this is better and (I think) will be my first 5 star album from this list. It made me happy, it made me tear up, and most importantly it made me think of Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage. Favourite track: Sherbet Sunset.
Jazzy. Favourite track: Minor Chant.
This album created a liminal space inside my head. It was very pleasant but also hard to review for that reason. Favourite track: Moon Dreams.
Not bad, George. Favourite track: Kissing a Fool.
I really liked this one. Favourite track: Tunic (Song For Karen).
Not my jam. Favourite track: Tribilin Cantore.
Now this is what I wanted from a Beatles album! I liked it a lot, and not just the tracks from No. 1, but that said... Favourite track: Eleanor Rigby.
I liked the start and then it fell off (drink). Favourite track: Gallows Pole.
A fun soundscape which would be better if the tracks were more distinct and didn't roll from one to another so much- WAIT. THIS IS WHERE FRONTIER PSYCHIATRIST COMES FROM?? Autumn leaves falling down like pieces into place... I get it. Favourite track: Frontier Psychiatrist.
The sound of a Hastings street in the early hours on a Sunday. Favourite track: Radio 4.
Fun music. Favourite track: One.
Battle Toads soundtrack. Favourite track: Breaking the Law.
When someone is listing classics this better be up there - none of the songs miss! Before this I wouldn't have been able to tell you a song Dusty had sung and now I know she's responsible for so many hits with just this one album? In awe. Favourite track: You Don't Own Me.
I find a lot of soundtracks unfocused when put together as albums, and this is no different. Favourite track: Baby Let's Dance Together.
Favourite track: Lust to Love.
Messy but enjoyable. As all over a clouds on an overcast day. Favourite track: Wor.
Thriller is a song I feel I was gas lit into liking at school because everyone else did and we used it as a PE warm up song. It's Horror pop so it should be my jam, but I can never tell if I like it or not. The rest of the album is most good, but the last two tracks let it down. Favourite track: Human Nature
Pleasant tunes. Favourite track: Samba Triste.
The Bowie - Beatles midpoint in a way really vibed with. Favourite track: Love You.
Yep, this is some old American stuff I haven’t heard before and will probably never hear again. Favourite track: Hot Burrito #1.
I enjoyed this album even tho it was hell to track down, not being featured in England or Hungary - I’m still not sure if I listened to it all, and some of the tracks had to be covers. Due to these issues, this album may be rated lower than it otherwise would. I am not sorry for this. It gave me unneeded stress on my holiday. Favourite track: Believe.
Coldplay do make some undeniable bangers. Favourite track: The Scientist.
Favourite track: Torn Curtain.
I don't fully know what this is but it was a lot of fun. Favourite track: Johnny Ryall.
Great vibes, fun. Favourite track: Deee-Lite Theme.
Took a while to get going, but the back end is great. Favourite track: Eat Yourself.
Not Pure Heroine but that was to be expected. Favourite track: Green Light.
Very enjoyable, but another that didn't blow me away. Favourite track: Ain't Talking 'Bout Love.
Adrenaline shock to the system as it starts, but sadly the initial momentum is something that couldn't be kept up. Still,. I had never heard of Alanis Morissette before and to find someone who partially sound tracked your childhood is always fun. Favourite track: All I Really Want.
Diet The Beatles. Favourite track: Hung Up On A Dream.
Sadly I found this all rather repetitive and dreary. Favourite track: Suicide.
Fun vibes but a back half that overshadows the first. Favourite track: (Songs for My) Sugar Spun Sister.
I love jazz! Favourite track: Soon Forgotten.
Enjoyable vibes but more ambient than AHHH. Favourite track: Where I End and You Begin.
Another one of those albums I've enjoyed but will probably never touch again. Favourite track: Jericho.
Not for me. Favourite track: Take a Little Time.
Dimond City Vibes. Favourite track: You Done Me Wrong.
It's fine but I wanted to like it more than I did. Favourite track: Me Myself and I.
A great album for ambience, sadly not for much else. Favourite track: Spray.
I really had to force myself to keep paying attention except one track which slapped. Favourite track: The Murder Mystery.
The sound of the dreams the BFG uses to knock out insomniacs. Favourite track: Night Raid.
Speaking of the best track, I'm feeling a Sense of Doubt that this is a good album.
Not what I was expecting - more electric and poppy. Still, I like the vibe and the lyrics. Favourite track: Computer Blue.
I like it when it goes French. Favourite track: J'ai fait tout.
I like the genre shifting and louder moments but sometimes it left me in a bit of a funk. Favourite track: Freddie's Dead.
The better Daft Punk, but still a bit of a head ache. Favourite track: Remind.
Competent, but not something I will ever return to. Favourite track: Devil In A New Dress.
A good country time. Favourite Track: Simple Twist of Fate
Mumbles in punk. Favourite track: Superabound.
Good vibes like Beatles? Favourite track: Loose Fit.
Congrats to Randy Newman for taking whatever these dudes are doing and finding a way to make it memorable. Favourite track: That's Just Too Much.
A lotta good stuff in a small package. Favourite track: Please Don't Stay (Once You Go Away).
Snooze then suddenly WOW for those last three songs. Favourite track: Welfare Mothers.
I saw “Pet Shop Boys” and for some reason expected the worst, which is weird as I had no prior experience with the band. This album turned out to be a lot of fun - I really enjoyed the sound as a contrast to my other recent listens. Favourite track: Go West.
Sure has that 60's vibe. Favourite track: World of Pain.
Another good background vibes album, but this one bringing the call of the valley with it in a beautiful way. Favourite track: The Prophet in the Mountain.
For some reason The Rolling Stones and The Beatles are linked in my head. This is weird due to the following: a) I have a long history with listening to The Beatles but this is, as far as I'm aware, my first time with The Rolling Stones b) They sound very different. Favourite track: Tumbling Dice.
Favorite track: Much Too Much.
Favorite track: Old Times Good Times
Overated? Favourite track: On The Run.
Favourite track: Downbound Train.
Fairy Tale of New York is the all time great Christmas song and its so nice to have an albums worth of context for it. The Progues are expert story tellers and even though this album has some real stinkers the highs defiantly outweigh the lows! Favourite track: Medley: The Recruiting Sergeant / The Rocky Road to Dublin / Galway Races.
Well, this made One Love a worse movie. Favourite track: The Heathen.
Stalls after the first track but finds momentum again by the end. Favourite track: Please Forgive Me.
Very messy. Favourite track: Pharaoh's Dance.
I don't know what my type of music is but I know it's not this. Favourite track: Things Behind The Sun.
This album may coast on it's title track, but damn it is a good title track. The rest isn't bad, just not memorable after the HIT ME BABY ONE MORE TIME! Favourite track: ...One More Time.
Jazz! Favourite track: Blues to Be There.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but Neil made a good album here. I really enjoyed it! Favourite track: World on a String.
Favourite track: Respect
When the best tracks sound like Muse I have to ask why I'm not just listening to Muse. Favourite track: An Audience With The Pope.
Compressed fever dream. Favourite track: Something's Wrong.
Just so much fun! Favourite track Up to Me.
This is the worst 3 star album yet. Favourite Track: Blowin' in the Wind.
Favourite track: Get Innocuous!
Iron Maiden apparently have good music as well as good album covers. I wasn't expecting them to be my thing but this actually rocked! Guitar noises. Favourite track: Phantom of the Opera.
Repetitive in a way Exodus wasn't. Favourite track: No Woman No Cry.
I wasn't initially vibing with this, but then it got me with "Guess I'm Doing Fine", the last couple of days have been emotionally volatile for me but this album really brought me back. Great lyrics, relatably sad but tinged with hope. What a stellar album! Favourite track: It's All In Your Mind.
Neil, my boy, you are rolling! Favourite track: Are You Ready for the Country.
This album felt like a great holiday, and has made me finally decide to work out what "Spongebob vibes" are. Favourite track: El Cuarto de Tula.
I just like it when woman yell. Favourite track: Man or Map, I like both the Ma's.
I have always enjoyed the diversity of the Billy Joel songs I've heard and my first experience with one of his albums didn't disappoint! Favourite track: Scenes from an Italian Restaurant.
It's actually rude to start an album with one of the most iconic pieces of music ever and then have it be so mediocre.
This album sounded like the most relaxing day in a swimming pool, call refracted lights on white walls. Favourite track: Honey.
This feels like the kinda rap album my dad warned me about when I was younger... Favourite track: It Was A Good Day.
Favourite track: Geosha Boys and Temple Girls.
I didn't realise cutting every song in half could make an album feel three times as long... what a load of nothing! Favourite track: The World According to Nouns.
Some good stuff. Like a bit of good stuff. Two good things. Two really good songs. What more do you need? Favourite track: Somebody to Love.
This captured the best Beatles vibes but better as there are women. Favourite track: Straight Shooter.
Kings of Leon is a name I've heard around. Kings of Leon will continue to be a name I hear around. Favourite track: Crawl.
Favourite track: Violence.
Favourite track: In The Mouth A Desert.
My new favourite chill time album. Honestly the vibes here are unmatched! Favourite track: Night Time
Favourite track: Heart Attack Man.
I listened to this in 5 parts as it was a real beast, and I must say disk one made me doubt it was worth sticking with. Disk two made me glad I stuck with it with Papa Was a Rodeo being the real turning point, and disk three was honestly great all the way through. 69 songs allows for love to be explored in all angles, and the variety on display here is impressive. Sadly, at the same time, 69 songs is just too many and the quantity over quality experience means that this album failed to achieve "good". Favourite track: Papa Was a Rodeo.
Favourite track: Streets of Bakersfield.
I like when it sounded like the Persona soundtrack. Favourite track: Lemon Firebrigade.
Favourite track: Abba Zaba.
This is the sort of hip hop I have been waiting for - is there anything that's worth more than peace and love on the planet Earth? Favourite track: U.
Out of all the albums that sound like ambient video game music this is my favourite album to sound like ambient video game music. I adored this front to back! Favourite track: Rainy Day.
Favourite track: Rikki Don't Lose That Number.
As this is my first Elvis album I feel like I should say a few things. It's a shame I have no things to say. Favourite track: Blue Suede Shoes.
This is one of the most 80s things to ever 80s. Favourite track: Time It's Time.
Favourite track: Trouble and Me.
Favourite track: Deacon Blues.
Pink Floyd are not my band. Favourite track: Wish You Were Here.
What a stunning album to be recommended on the 6th of November 2024. It's inanity and honesty heart breaking that women have been signing about and fighting for the same issues of rights and bodily autonomy for so long, and I just despise the men in power. Why can't we grow? Why can't we push forwards?? Why are we stuck in stasis as a society? Anyway, this album is spectacular. Favourite track: Ladies First.
In my second year of university I wrote an essay on Bauhaus. I didn't particularly like abstract art at the time and did dread it, but an assignment was an assignment and I took my lack of investment as a chance to learn. Quickly I became enamoured in all the modern art of the time, not just in Germany but in Denmark and Russia as well. It really was a special time to be a creative with raw experimentation and a lot of pushing boundaries. When it came to third year and my chance to write my dissertation I decided to write a follow up comparing the art of abstraction with the rise in video games and how some indie games are the modern day interpretation of things like Bauhaus. The idea never hit me to look into music as I wasn't that big of a music person at the time, but I can't help and think if I did stretch to another modern interpretation I would have found Bauhaus a lot sooner and would have known that this album would disappoint me despite the artists name. Favourite track: Of Lillies and Remains.
Favourite track: Angel Angel Down We Go Together.
A few good lyric but nothing stood out to me. Favourite track: Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before.
Favourite track: Egbe Mi O (Carry Me).
My father was a fisherman. My mama was a fisherman's friend. Favourite track: Duncan.
