I think I’ve outgrown the allure of Jim Morrison, but the musicianship is still top tier.
Listen, I know Ella is great and these songs are classic but… this shit is too long
Another solid Beck and Dust Brothers collab
Really good. Amazing orchestrals
Amazing voice. Only really know a few of the hits before this one. Solid album.
Big OutKast fan. This isn’t my fave album of theirs but I get why it’s on the list. Some serious bangers.
Def more produced than Live Through This which I still listen to every so often. Love’s lyrics and Melissa Auf der Mar’s bass are so good. Makes sense Billy Corgan helped on this record cuz there’s def some smashing pumpkins influences to it.
Love Pixies but never spent too much time with Frank's solo stuff. I really liked this record.
A certified classic. Is Flava Flav sorta annoying? Ya but he earned it.
Ice-T hard as fuck. Bodycount, bitch. But this shit is too long.
Not bad. No Motorhead or the like.
Never heard of him before and loved it. Will for sure revisit
Billy seems to have some relationship issues. Top notch production though.
Gabriel > Genesis. Great debut album.
Great stuff. Drums sound heavy and snappy. Everyone brings it.
Stan : That's what they called themselves. Like, "The Clash". The only band that mattered. They called themselves that for a reason.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
This album came out when I was coasting through college and changed the trajectory of mainstream hip hop.
Lounge tunes. Made me wanna put on a suit and smoke a cigarette but probably wouldn’t revisit.
I have a lot to say about this album, and also not a lot to say about it. I can appreciate the lyricism and some of the strange rhythms. It's both wildly entertaining and sorta stupid. I'd listen again, but I'd make sure to take some drugs.
The only Elvis that matters.
Top tier string pluckin’. Sick voice.
King Louie from Jungle Book? Hell yeah. Nice horns and hilarious lyrics.
This is sort of when they started to suck. Howlin for you is trash but I enjoyed relistening to this and would definitely not complain if someone put it on. Some of the instrumentation sounds like wu-tang beats.
Production and musicianship is good and I know she's a good songwriter, but this ain't for me.
The stuff truck commercials are made of. Decent road trip tunes. Not really into the bluegrass jam kinda thing but it's fine. Is Stills even that good of a singer though, really?
Sure, Seven Nation Army is overplayed but Jack's songwriting and guitar playing is top tier on this record. Meg providing a thumping ass heart beat keeping everything on track without Jack getting too carried away. Their most cohesive record. This shit rules.
It's got fun beats but he's a pedo.
Definitely sick of the singles but a lot of other good tracks I wasn't familiar with since I only listen to the records when they're on a shitload of drugs.
A little dated for my liking. A lotta better electronic albums from this era in my opinion. Didn't hate it but it was sorta annoying.
One of the best rappers and producers there is.
Not my fave Aerosmith record but it’s def got some tracks.
Sounds like a flex, or not true, but I was obsessed with this album when I was 5. My older cousin was a teenager and had me remember all of the skull faces on the cover by name. This disturbed my mom. Are some of these songs dated? Sure. Does it still fuckin' rip? Hell yeah.
Never heard these guys before and it was a ripper of a good time.
One of the best, if not THE best record of their's.
This shit blew my fucking mind when it came out. It still hits so hard. Perfect album.
Godfathers of Electronic. Gotta love it
This album will always remind of when the grade 10 talent show when the teacher band played “sultans of swing”. Mr. Kulka could shred! In retrospect I shouldn’t have dared Matt Gies to yell, “SLAYER!” during the performance. What a couple of little shits we were.
A gamechanger album. And some great vids. So good.
I should probably review this album higher but REM have so many albums and even though this one is really good, it’s not one of their tops for me.
A pervy, old, junkie writes a buncha dumb songs.
Not her most popular, but actually one of my favourite Bjork albums.
Just solid fuckin' rock n roll tunes. Love the way Bonham's kick sounds.
Lyrics are so good and everything sounds so clean and bright. Love it.
All the Ronettes songs are the best. I sorta hate Christmas music but I can dig these vibes.
I never really listened to Talk Talk before but I really liked it. A lot of sounds going on but they all work together. I'll def check out their discography
It's Bowie, so it's obviously good, but I can name 10 or more albums I like better than this. Good time though.
Don't fuck with a lot of old school blues, but Muddy is a straight up fuckin' G.
I recently tried to get a kid from work into Tom Waits and told him to start with Rain Dogs. It freaked him out. This might've been a more accessible album to start with.
My second nick drake album. Love this dude. Gotta get both on wax
I’ve heard of these guys my entire life and maybe even heard a few of their songs before? Maybe just the Mrs. Robinson cover from Wayne’s world 2. Regardless I was a little underwhelmed. They’re fine just kinda boring. I’d give it a 2.5 if I could.
Big Fela Kuti fan, so was stoked to hear one of his son's albums. It's definitely a good time. A little long, but fun.
I once saw Butch Vig at a movie theatre in vancouver but was too chicken to say hello after the flick. Anyways, this album rules. A lot of different influences but never confusing.
Not sure how I completely missed this band/album but it's sweet. Funky, fun, chill. A lotta different vibes and all equally cool.
Fuck yeah. Maiden rips. So many good shreds and Dickinson sounds so good.
Nothing beats sniffing some Elmer's and jammin' out to this rippin' album.
Sort of a bummer because I think the music on this album is fucking great, but I find his singing underwhelming and borderline annoying.
Healthy mix of pop bops and rippin' bangers.
So weird and kind of awesome. He's like a crooning Eric Burden with the humour of Nick Cave and Warren Zevon performing an operatic spaghetti western in Vegas.
Top ten hip hop albums of all time. 🙌🏾 All amazing rappers and the beats are gritty and soulful all at the same damn time. Not sure if I like this or miseducation better but they’re both perfect albums.
I appreciate this album way more after watching Mike Judge's "Tales from the Tour Bus". Homie could crush! In all honesty I've been getting more into country these days, so I enjoyed this. Hits a little less corny in my old age.
Jane's is one of those bands where each member is just so fucking good at what the do. A straight up classic.
I've never fully deep dived into Elton, mostly because I'm sick of hearing the same singles my whole life. Sort of embarrassed it took me so long to finally give this whole album a listen. Even though it contains a few of those said singles, in the context of a full album, they're pretty great. Also so many great songs I never heard. Nice work, E.
I'm giving this a 4 'cause it's obviously sweet but I've heard it way too many times and prefer listening to some other Mac albums. Like Tusk!
More digestable than Trout Mask Replica for sure. Sweet that Ry Cooder plays on it. Again, I know I should like Captain Beefheart more given what I'm into, but I still sort of think he's overrated.
Some serious finger waggin', toe tappin' stuff. I loved his cameo in Big Mouth.
These guys a boring version of all the good bands from this era. Also his lyrics are weak. He's trying way too hard.
Def makes me wanna hit the sock hop and boogie.
Great album by the best band ever. A game changer.
Some sick bass grooves and classic hip hop vibes. Sometimes the hooks are kinda corny but still a decent listen.
His voice is pretty fuckin' sweet. Quite a fun record. That "imagine" cover though, wtf.
Yusuf's one of the best singer/songwriters to ever do it. I also listened to the re-recordings of this album and they're also still great. His voice has aged like a fine wine.
A classic. Paved the way for all the amazing trip hop and even better massive attack albums that followed
Swan dress Bjork rules. One of her more tender albums that I don't throw on too often. That being said, the singles are hard.
I've heard a lot of Gruff Rhys collabs but never got into these guys. I dug it! A lot of stuff going on but it's just fun and weird. His vocals aren't anything amazing but it has that flaming lips sort of charm.
My least favourite of the Berlin trilogy, but still some real solid stuff! Curious what other Bowie albums are on here... Hoping there might be some of the weird later stuff too.
Bro. This shit SLAPS. Saw them on this tour in grade 10 with Coal Chamber. Elite stuff.
I love this era of the lips. Obviously Yoshimi was the one that got me super into them, but this is just as good. Love Friddman's production. One of the most fun live bands. I recommend hallucinogens.
Not for me. I'm not crazy about her voice. Even the massive attack stuff is my least fave of their songs.
I didn't love these guys when they came out but I really like 'em now. I think they matured well and I appreciate going back and listening to the older stuff. Coincidentally, my favourite album is tranquility based which I guess old school fans hate.
This is the only Wilco album I really know and I always say I'm gonna deep dive into their discography and always end up just putting this on. However, this time I'm actually gonna do it! ... maybe....
Kinda crazy I never listened to the Fall before considering how much I love Post Punk. It's a good time. Not my favourite but I wouldn't turn it off if it came up on shuffle.
Real elegant stuff. I loved this album when it came out.
A precursor to so many shoegaze albums and bands I love. Also her voice is amazing.
Love Elliot Smith. Top tier sad guy music. Reminds me of college.
I forgot how epic this album is. So good. Giving it a 4 but could very well climb to a 5.
When we talk about the brilliance of artists like Gabriel or Bowie, Kate Bush should be part of that conversation. Amazing.
Never heard these guys before and they're sick. Synthy punk. Hell yeah.
A classic! Annie is great
I saw Al once and he came out in a white suit and handed out roses to all the old white ladies. What a stud.
Cliche, but I listened to this album while travelling around Germany alone and when I spent two weeks in Berlin. I love it.
Another crop of fun tunes from the horniest man alive.
I always get jazzed when Kraftwerk comes up. Can't not be happy vibing to these tunes.
Unpopular opinion, but I can't fuckin' stand Fast Car. I don't get the hype. I know she's talented. Good voice, good songwriter, good guitar player, but I can't get into it.
I actually thought I was still listening to Tracy Chapman when this album came on. I went back and re-listened to her album after. It should really be a 3 instead of a 2, that was unfair.
I'm a big Jeff Buckley fan, and never actually heard Tim. Good stuff! Still prefer Jeff.
Love Norah. Makes me wanna sip a martini in a smoky bar. I like this album but I think she's only gotten better and more experimental overtime.
Top 10 albums of all time. A fuckin' masterpiece.
Not bad, not great. Basslines are dope. Sorta reminded me of Franz Ferdinand and how they may have expanded upon what the Jam did.
One of my fave artists of all time. Great first album. She only gets better
Simple rhythms, catchy melodies. A mix of tracks that are fun, romantic and melancholy. Not the greatest gym tunes, but I enjoyed!
Seems like 3 is a harsh rating but let it be known I still enjoy and respect this record. It starts strong, then there's some duds, then it picks back up again. I like the acid Beatles.
I've known of Mike Watt and Minutemen my whole life but never really got into either. This post Minutemen band is an interesting story. I didn't blow my mind but it's still enjoyable. A mix of funk, punk, jazz and what not and so on and so forth.
Do you remember when you saw your first Jaguar Shark? I do. It was in college and it blew my mind.
Put the coolest dudes in a room together with a bag of weed and some hallucinogens. Get it!
Unreal production on this record. Her voice and lyrics are so great. Sad she's gone.
I'd only heard the title track and maybe one or two others but it's pretty epic! I would actually give it a 3.5. I'm sort of classic rocked out these days, but younger me would've rocked this a lot more, I imagine.
Morrissey is a boner, but I'll always love the Smiths. I'm a Queen is Dead guy, but this record is also great. Lotta grunting at the beginning. Grunt more Morrissey. Jonny Marr is the best.
A great debut. I rocked the shit out of this in Grade 10. Their songwriting got more complex on their following records, but all of the tracks on this one are bangers. Serj is a beast.
A prog masterpiece. You can tell the first track influenced Mars Volta. The whole record rips.
Hell yeah. I had highway star as my midi style ringtone back in the flip phone days. Shit RIPS.
Love the Kinks but maybe more of a greatest hits type guy? I feel like this album could make it to a 4 though, there's some great classics on here.
I think Teenage Head was also a band? Never heard this before. Recognized one track from maybe a Tarantino movie? Good stuff though, would for sure go back and listen again!
A 90's classic. Miss Layne. What a G
A second Elliot record! Figure 8 is great but Either/Or is better imo. I wonder if XO is on this list?
Crazy the producer died saving this record from the fire. I love all the little trip hoppy beats on some of the songs. A healthy mix of lounge and trippiness but I prefer the trippy stuff.
People say this is her best album. For years I've been saying it's "White Chalk." Hot take I know, but maybe I was wrong. Gimme a break okay?
Monster voice. Good times. Would throw on at a party to get the people boogiein'
I needed a bit more of dat funk but still enjoyed. Really need those .5 scores. 3.5
This is when Tom starts to get weirder. But he balances it with some classic crooning so it doesn't immediately weird out his fans. I dig.
One of my favourites and one of my heroes. I've seen her perfom this live in full and I'll be seeing it again soon! It’s a mini rock opera.
Don't think I've ever actually listened to Fats! I dig, but it appears a lot of these older jazz/blues records are capturing me as much as they probably should.
Solid debut but not my fave Massive Attack record. Light my Fire cover is brutal.
A game changer and so original when it came out. I still revisit this album often. Demon Days gotta be on this list too!
I've heard this album way too many times, so it's no longer one of my faves, but obviously great song writing.
Not much to say other than this fucking rules.
Very stoked to see a Sault album on here. I loved all of these. Inflo is such a good producer and the mystique that surrounded the collective when they first started releasing albums made it all the more fun.
Oof. Not for me. I feel like I’m too nice on here so this will be my first 1. His voice is just sorta annoying? The weird beats with acoustic whining, dude, I dunno.
I’ve listened to a lot of Blur and probably even heard every album but I don’t know them as in depth as a lot of Damon’s other projects, but I’ll say, the other dudes deserve some recognition for their sound. It’s not just the Damon show. Do I know their other names? Of course not.
When I first moved to Vancouver in 2009 I was in a big Depeche Mode phase. I love this album so much that when we went to the tour in Seattle, instead of buying a tour shirt I bought one that was just the violator cover… I wish I knew where that shirt was today.
What’s his mothafuckin’ name?!?!?!
A Westcoast, G funk, gangsta classic. I've heard it way too many times, but when it came out in Grade 6 it was hard as FUCK.
I dunno man. It’s fine. Got bored.
Motorhead obviously fucking rips, but a Live album? I hope there's some studios on here.
This album is both really fun and really annoying. I think it's just the vocals that annoy me.
One of the best jazz hip hop records with some of the best features by one of the best rappers ever. Come on maaaaaan
The celtic stuff is kinda nice but this is mostly boring as fuck.
Crazy how much he sounds like Jamie Foxx!
I'm giving this a 4 'cause Queen rules but I'd actually give it a 3.5. Only reason is because if Freddie Mercury is your singer, why are other people singing songs with their sub par voices? Pull your head out of your asses, other guys, and let the man sing.
I actually prefer the Crazy Horse stuff.
Great voice and obviously a fuckin canadian legend
I've really only ever listened to Different Class but this album is also great. Some serious U2 vibes on it. Fight me.
It's fun. Gets sorta repetitive after a while. I'm sure it's more fun actually live. Don't love the live albums on here. Probably would've enjoyed more if some stud put a rose in my mouth.
Legend. One of my faves. So happy I got to see him a couple times. Coachella 2008 was wild, baby.
It's fine. Doesn't grab me as much as some other female country stars like Emmylou Harris. Wrecking Ball better damn well be on this list.
Roky's a goddamn legend. The rhythm section on this album kills it. Is this the best album with an electric jug player on it?
Clapton's a fuckin' wiener and I'm sick of the blues.
A straight up Canadian legend.
I never knew this collab album existed. Some serious songwriting and great voices on this. Gotta grip on wax.
A masterpiece that I've heard a billion times and never gets old.
I didn't hate this as much as I thought I would. This makes me believe that Morning View is also on here? I dunno if I NEED to listen to 2 incubus albums before I die, if so. I did see them live once and it was pretty sick though. This DJ needs to chill though.
Unpopular opinion but rainy day woman is fucking annoying. The rest of this album is great though.
Outside of that Metallica song and her dating Mick, I don't know a lot about her music career, but I loved this record. Definitely going to listen again and peep some others.
At one point this was my favourite Bowie album. I've sort of gotten way more into his later stuff, but I still have a deep appreciation for this one. It was played a lot in college.
Fuck yeah. I prefer Fugazi as an Ian MacKaye project but obviously this fucking rips.
Homie can write a massive song with a huge band or a nice little ditty with just a gooter. What a guy.
Solid debut. They definitely have better albums than this. I swear they were singing, "the good scone" in that track. Would've been a better lyric. Who doesn't love a good scone?
Don't think it's my favourite anymore, but it's for sure the Beatles album that really got me into them back in the day. Some songs I'm sick of, but still full of bangers.
I feel like this is the album where Beyonce when from safe(ish) pop star and started experimenting a bit more. Obviously those types of songs are still on this album, but the beats are more interesting than previous albums and got more peeps into her.
Some obvious bangers, but I prefer Off the Wall and Thriller. I feel like this is the transition where he started... you know...
I've heard the title track way too many times and thought I was sick of it, but in context of the album it still rips. This album is great.
I thought this was gonna be cool after the first track, but it's just a bloated album with way too many ideas and no real direction. The lyrics are sorta wack too. It's got good instrumentation though, I'll give it that.
Love the Pretenders. She still sounds great today. This album pairs perfectly with a blue rare steak.
I recognized a few of these tracks and really enjoyed the album. I actually love a lot of the drumming on here.
I always go back and forth on what's the best Wu-Tang solo album. Today it's definitely this.
Another banger Queen album.
10/10 no duds on this record. A straight up classic.
The best part of Grade 6 was yelling, "you stupid dumbshit goddamn motherfucker."
I'd love someone who paid my rent too. The tongue in cheek lyrics are fun and the beats are good. His voice is soooort of annoying? But it also works?
Probably my most listened to MJ record since it was stuck in Dandan's tape deck for a whole summer. Love it.
She can def sing! Song great songs and some I'm sick of having heard on the radio too much when they came out. Respect though, she knows Bron.
Never heard of this and was expecting to love it. I can appreciate the sampling, beats etc, but it didn't blow me away. Some rhyming is great and some is annoying.
The two extremes of Beck. This and Midnite Vultures. This is my favourite though.
