Less rock and more country. I hear his influence in the band Pavement's music. Love Ooh Las Vegas.
Some amazing songs on here and some self-indulgent stuff as well. Overall a good album once you know your place as a listener.
I remember hearing this back in the day. Forgot about this recording. At the time it sounded very advanced for it's time. There were some others out there, like the Ninja Tune artists, but this recording was certainly ahead of the curve. Some acid jass, techno, electronic, hip-hop influnce this recording. I can still listen today and it takes me back to the late 1990's, before Y2K.
Not my favorite R.E.M. record. This and the previous record, Document, started getting R.E.M. on the pop music stations and more heavy rotation on MTV. To me the sound became to polished and to overproduced. While there are still some amazing songs on this record, it just was not my style. I was a big fan and went to every show when they would come into town, but by this record, I was less interested in the band. This album was really less jangle pop as the previous albums and R.E.M. seem to lose their college radio station sound. That is fine, we all have to graduate from college someday. However, for R.E.M. their college sound was what drew me in and made them endearing.
Love David Bowie. Love this record. While I was too young to know this record when it came out, I have grown to appreciate it in my years. Sound and Vision is a favorite of mine and if one song can encapsulate the mood, feeling, sound of the record, it is this one song. The production is fantastic and this record is a favorite of many and I can see why. Certainly a top three record from David Bowie for me.
Not my cup of tea generally. This album is fine but I preferred. Countdown to Destruction.
When this was released I really knew Jay Z but more casually. This record was somewhat groundbreaking for him and really brought him to the forefront of hip-hop/rap music. Great production and excellent music combined to make this a record for the ages.
Not their best album but a very solid album. This was more mainstream, if one could say that, compared to the previous albums. Some very good songs.
Other than a couple of songs, this album is a bit dated. However it was certainly ahead of its time and still resounds in the mind.
This record makes me feel good all over. Very quality record and I forget about its existence until times like this and it makes me happy. Love this band and I have been lucky to see them a few times and early in their career.
While not my typical kind of music, I did grow up with Ozzy Osborne and Black Sabbath was just before I would have started to listening to rock and metal. A good album, but just not my speed.
Never heard of this artist. At least not as a solo artist, if he may have been part of some group. This album was fun, quirky, and the vocals were fun and catchy. The music on the first song was fantastic and match the vocals perfectly. The following songs felt like they were telling a story. Sometimes jazzy, sometimes rock n roll, sometimes folksy. I think I will have to put this record on replay for the next few weeks.
One of my favorite albums of all time. On my desert island top 10 list of records. Songs that still find a way to my heart.
One of my favorite records of all time and it is not even my top U2 album or (three). Some really lovely songs and the mood it sets is transcending.
I really enjoyed many of the songs on this record. In fact I own a physical copy. Get Free is a song that I still listen quite a bit today. For a 20 year plus old album, it still sounds as fresh as when it came out.
One of my favorite records from back in the early 90's. But what I remember this is the time that Brit Pop was just starting to make its way with music in Britain, countering the dirty rough music America was putting out. At the time this sounded raw and inspired and now looking back and contrasting it against bands like Suede, Elastica, Blur, Oasis, and even Radiohead to some extent. Those were heady times!
I respect Run DMC but not a fan of their rap. I was into more other ones.
Not a Neil Young fan. I should say not a fan of his music, but I do respect him as a person and as a musician. This album is a classic and probably should be in everyone's record catelouge.
Love this record and surprised to find it here because it is a bit obscure.
My favorite RFTC album. I think this record is amazing and I try to share this with friends whenever I get the chance. Sadly, most of my friends have a narrow taste in music. Not that it is a bad taste in music, but they don't get out much. The mixture of rock guitar and drums, brass, and a little punk makes this album, band a classic.
For me this record is pretty darn good. It's not my favorite of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. However, I think it has the best song ever written and sung by Tom Petty in "American Girl"
Not a huge fan of this album. I do like Julian Cope's projects and not hating this one, but it would not be on my turntable often.
Little Wing is one of my favorite songs. That being said, I have to be in the mood to listen to this album. It is a generational thing so for me I have very little relationship with the record. It is a fine record but only can indulge in it a few mosels at a time.
Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain is still my favorite, but this album is ok.
So not my favorite Public Enemy album. It is good but I prefer Yo! Bum Rush the Show, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, and Fear of a Black Planet much better. Musically and lyrically this was a good album but I prefer the others.
This is a fun rock and roll album. A little before my time but some fun and rolicking songs. One hit song to really tie it all together. Obviously the better version of the song vs Quiet Riot's.
A good record but not my favorite Buzzcocks album. Certainly see the influence they had on punk and post punk music.
Enjoyed one song. Not my cup of tea, though I have seen Faith No More play live back in the day.
I have this record. I just don't see it as one of the 1001 records you have to listen to before you die. If other New Order records are not on the list, then I just don't see how this makes the list and others do not. Not a favorite New Order record of mine.
Surprising album and more so knowing that he was already sick and knew he was going to die soon. Sadly he died a few days after the release of this record. A bit avant guarde but still David Bowie was always ahead of the curve or trying new things. Not a regular on my rotation but a very good record indeed.
First of all I cannot believe it is over 20 years ago that this record came out. It still sounds very fresh and new. The whole NY scene at the time was fantastic. You have the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Interpol, The Strokes. LCD Soundsystem. Plus you had other bands like The Walkmen right around that time. What a time to be alive and watching great music in New York. This record reminds me of that time and the music, plus the album is fantastic.
A very good album produced by Nick Lowe. Such a well produced album but certainly with a Nick Lowe influence. Not my favorite Elvis and the Attractions album but a very good one.
Love this record. My favorite Elvis Costello and the Attractions album. I cannot say enough about this recording. Means a lot to me and it brings back nostalgic thoughts when I listen to it.
One of my favorite albums. A seminal recording. Songs like Killing in the Name, Bombtrack, Freedom, still strike a chord today in the political environment of 2025. Those songs inspired young people, like me, and help cement values that are more about people over country.
While not my favorite VU album, it is still one of the best of a generation. So many songs on this recording that inspired so many artists that followed. A dark but lively album.
A very fantastic album, with great musicians. No woner it won best new album in the Mercury Prize. Too bad here in the US is was not as wildly listened to or played on the radio.
Classic lo-fi chill electronic music. They really set the tone for a lot of musicians in this genre. I love this record. One of my top 50 I would say.
Definitely a side A type of record. I loved side A of this album. A very good album and set the tone for lot of goth electronic music.
I have this record as a special edition. First time for me hearing Bjork. It is a fun record and showcases Bjork's voice and the quirkyness of the music of the Sugarcubes.
An albumn that changed my generation but also changed music. I had this album on play continuously when it first came out. Today I still listen to songs on the record.
One of my holy grail records. I have had this in my collection for almost 40 years (just under). Over time the songs get better and better and I realize how great of a songwriter Paul Westerberg was on that record (a fool as well). The innocence but the bravado of the band shows well in this recording. They we just starting to get going yet they faltered in the end. The story was just starting of what could have been.
Another album that is in my top 50 of all time. This recording was being played non-stop when it first came out and I couldn't get enough of it.
Love DJ Shadow and this record working with James Lavelle was ground breaking in my opinion. They would later go and work together on the UNKLE first release, which also was an amazing record.
The first record I bought with my own money. I loved this record at the time it came out and I still do. Such good memories and the music is very good.
While groundbreaking this album is not a favorite of mine, but there are quite a few songs on this record that I still enjoy listening to today. The legend of Elastica and the influence of this record still inspires many bands that I listen to.
