I have enjoyed Neil Young in the past, but his vocals on this record were hard for me to listen to.
Best Track: Over and Over
I really enjoyed listening to this album! 60s stuff is a blind spot for me, so I appreciated getting exposed to a band I had not heard of.
Best Track: Maybe the People Would Be the Times or Between Clark and Hilldale
Awesome album! I feel like once you get past the first few tracks, it really hits its stride and is mostly really strong the rest of the way through. No surprise, the Stevie Nicks-led songs steal the show.
Best Track: Storms
Fun listen, I had heard “Under My Thumb” a million times, but I wasn’t expecting this record to be so bluesy!
Best Track: Under My Thumb
I am famously a Beatles skeptic, but I liked this album. I felt like the first half of the record was a lot stronger than the second half, but overall very solid.
Best Track: She’s Leaving Home
I just listened to Aftermath a couple days ago, and I definitely enjoyed this one more. I feel like, when I think of The Rolling Stones, this is the exact vibe I hear in my head.
Best Track: Rocks Off
Good band, good album. Kind of wild that this record and its titular track came out just a few months after the Bob Dylan version. I’m still confused about how that all happened.
Best Track: Mr. Tambourine Man
Such amazing soul and emotion in her voice. I really loved this album and there are songs on it that will stick with me for a long time.
Best Track: Help Me
I can definitely appreciate what The Stooges mean to the genre, but this album just didn’t do it for me.
Best Track: Ann
I’d consider myself a U2 fan, but I hadn’t listened to this album outside of the couple hits on it. Good stuff pretty much top to bottom.
Best Track: Mysterious Ways
Pretty good record with a few very cool songs on it, but it never really got its hooks in me. I think if I listened to this album ten years ago I would have loved it.
Best Track: Ashes of American Flags
I was ready to write this record off before it even began, but it was a genuinely fun listen. There are some awesome guitar parts, and its just a handful of the more strange songs that keep it from being a big winner for me.
Best Track: Morning Will Come
The only way I can describe this record is “epic.” The way the first handful of tracks all flow into each other is awesome, and there is such an undeniable gravity behind so many of these songs.
Best Track: In the Lap of the Gods… Revisited
What an album! This record just kicks so much butt, and just about every song on here is a perfect encapsulation of what Alice in Chains is all about.
Best Track: Rooster
Lovely record. I didn’t think a live album from 1957 would sound so crisp and well-produced, and there was a playful tone from Vaughan just having fun the whole way through, even when she made mistakes.
Best Track: Willow Weep for Me
This is the perfect encapsulation of Y2K pop, and unfortunately that’s not always a good thing. The title track is a masterpiece, but the rest of these songs are so flat and mind-numbingly repetitive.
Best Track: …Baby One More Time
Overall not a bad listen, but it felt a little more like a collection of songs rather than a cohesive record.
Best Track: All The Pictures On The Wall
The music was definitely solid. Maybe the narrative of this concept album hit a little more for the people of England in the 60’s, but I was born in New Jersey in the 90’s, so it didn’t quite resonate with me.
Best Track: Some Mother’s Son
Absolutely awesome. It’s so incredible how a band with such a signature sound can keep things so dynamic and varied throughout a record.
Best Track: Comfortably Numb
There’s always a place in my heart for bossa nova, and this feels like such a quintessential record for the genre. Sinatra’s voice works so well for the style, and it still shines through even in a little more understated than his most famous hits.
Best Track: Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars (Corcovado)
The first album this site ever served me was 1990’s Ragged Glory, and it was nearly unlistenable. This album, however, was pretty dang good! Much closer to the Neil Young I enjoy, and a ton of really fun songs on the record.
Best Track: My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)
Objectively solid hip-hop album, just not quite in my wheelhouse. Some legitimately great songs on here though, and I love Common’s voice.
Best Track: Faithful
I don’t think I 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 five minute instrumental stretches, but I respect it. Some absolutely great tunes on this record.
Best Track: Limelight
This is the type of album that makes me grateful I got involved with this site. Really cool stuff and a couple songs that really stuck with me after the first listen. I also had no clue Neil Young was a member, so that was fun to find out.
Best Track: Expecting to Fly
This is the epitome of a rock opera. The songs are theatrical without being forced, and long without overstaying their welcome. Great stuff.
Best Track: For Crying Out Loud
There are a couple great songs on this record, but they’re mixed in with some serious nonsense. It’s pretty crazy, because I can see a clear pipeline from Sonic Youth to some bands I truly love, but this just didn’t do it for me.
Best Track: Wish Fulfillment
This album just doesn’t need to be this long. There’s a better record hidden in here if you just scrapped half the songs, and it would still be plenty weird.
Best Track: The Carpet Crawlers
This album has some definite nonsense, but it also gave us two truly iconic alternative rock songs, so I can’t be that hard on it.
Best Track: Where is My Mind?
That guitar tone just makes you want to run through a wall. Such a signature sound, it’s kind of crazy that Seven Nation Army starts this album off, and then there are so many other amazing songs and the energy is so varied throughout.
Best Track: Ball and Biscuit
Super fun album and a very easy listen. Just feels like one of the great examples of rock from this era, and there were quite a few songs I would go back to.
Best Track: The Slider
I tend to gravitate towards new age when it comes to 80’s music and I thought this was a very solid entry in the genre, I just wish there were a couple true standout tracks I could hang onto.
Best Track: Treason
It was interesting listening to a version of The Temptations that I wasn’t familiar with, I just don’t think it was the best version of the group.
Best Track: Hey Girl
Serious, who is this for? I was going to be a little generous, because there are some enjoyable musical elements within the record, but the subject matter is too icky to ignore.
“Best” Track: Melody
It’s kind of incredible this album came out in 1986. I’m not sure if the Beastie Boys are the weirdest dudes ever, or if they are truly just musical geniuses. Either way, this is a unique song and I’m glad this music exists.
Best Track: Slow Ride
Immaculate beats, impeccable flow…and Norah Jones? I had a great time listening through this record, would have been completely off my radar otherwise.
Best Track: Won’t Trade
I can’t remember the last time I had this much fun listening through an album for the first time. I was so excited for the next song every time, and every time it delivered.
Best Track: Graceland
I liked this album fine enough, John Fogerty’s vocals wear on me just a little bit when it's not for one song at a time.
Best Track: Who’ll Stop the Rain
I can always get behind some folksy violin, but this record had just a little too much disjointed nonsense for my liking.
Best Track: Last Dance
This is the kind of record that you don’t have to be in the mood for, because it just always fits the mood. Just amazing stuff from one of the legends of the genre.
Best Track: (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman
It was interesting listening to a very different version of this group than I’m familiar with, but that’s also why I didn’t love it. There are some perfectly good songs on the record, just not much to write home about.
Best Track: Don’t Wanna Live Inside Myself
It was fun to listen to some Jeff Beck guitar playing, but overall this record kind of just blends in with other rock music of the era.
Best Track: Over Under Sideways Down
I don’t know how it took me so long to listen to this band considering they influenced just about every one of my favorite bands. You can hear the impact they had on punk, emo and alternative in every song. It’s all just so good.
Best Track: These Important Years
The fact that Fiona was so young when this album came out makes it all that much more staggering. The vocals and raw emotion permeate through every song and it’s hard not to get chills.
Best Track: The First Taste
I had trouble figuring out how I felt about this record. I think the more alt-country type songs are so awesome, but they felt at-odds with the more folksy songs throughout. Overall, pretty solid, just a little discombobulated.
Best Track: I Dream A Highway
Lyrically, this album aged remarkably (and depressingly) well. Musically, I just can’t see myself going back to it very often.
Best Track: Satanic Reverses
Joplin’s voice is unmistakable and iconic. You have to be in the right mood to listen to a whole album of it, but when it hits, it hits.
Best Track: Piece of My Heart
Excellent album, and I didn’t realize so many of Peter Gabriel’s hits are all on this record. I really enjoyed my time listening to this and I’ll be back soon.
Best Track: In Your Eyes
This album is an absolute blast. Costello’s energetic and almost zany vocal style immediately grabs you, and the few slower songs throughout the record keep it varied and make for such a fun listening experience. I loved it.
Best Track: This Is Hell
This is a fantastic 80s pop album with quite a few absolute bangers on it. I also learned that “I Can’t Stand the Rain” was sampled by Missy Elliott and it wasn’t just her singing in “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)”
Best Track: What’s Love Got to Do With It
Pretty standard Brit-rock with some really good guitar tones throughout. “Song 2” is one of the most famous rock songs ever, so that definitely counts for something.
Best Track: Song 2
I was not prepared for the start of this record to be the theme from The Exorcist, and I also didn’t expect that every time I thought these long arrangements were starting to lose me, they won me back. Really awesome for what it is, and the story behind the production of this record is equally captivating.
Best Track: Tubular Bells - Pt. I
I was pleasantly surprised by how dynamic this album was. The slower tracks mixed in well with the more expected pop rock stuff, and overall I thought it was a great listen, especially at only a brisk 36 minutes or so.
Best Track: English Rose
I was really expecting to like this whole album more. The first two tracks are so awesome, but it dropped off a little from there for me. Chapman’s voice is undeniably incredible.
Best Track: Fast Car
Another album I really thought I would like more. I really respect the unique sound of TV On The Radio, but a lot of the songs on this record felt so monotonous.
Best Track: Staring at the Sun
This album definitely has some good bits sprinkled throughout, but I feel like there is a certain goofy element that messes up the vibe I was hoping for.
Best Track: Go To Sleep
It’s pretty crazy to listen to an album and understand just how much it impacted music that came after it. Nyro’s style clearly paved the way for future singer-songwriters like Fiona Apple and Tori Amos, and her voice is absolutely awesome. The album itself is a little bit scattered musically for me.
Best Track: Stoned Soul Picnic
The Black Keys in all their fuzzy glory. This album feels so connected to that era of alternative rock and it was great to re-experience the hits. Really fun listen.
Best Track: Tighten Up
Newsom has a truly mesmerizing voice and it pairs so magically with the harp-led instrumentation of the album. My biggest gripe was it all felt a little too freeform, and I got lost a little listening to such long songs. I think it works best as a more passive listening experience.
Best Track: Emily
This record is like if someone heard David Bowie playing off in the distance one time and tried to recreate it from memory. Dissonant nonsense, total mumbo jumbo.
“Best” Track: Sea Song
Tom Petty is one of the true greats. I can’t say this record is the best front-to-back example of his genius, but “Breakdown” and “American Girl” sure are.
Best Track: American Girl
One of the great realizations I have come to over the last couple months is that the experimental prog stuff is just not my cup of tea. Some alright bits in here though, and I do love the album cover. Just too much nonsense.
Best Track: A Time and a Place
Pleasantly surprised! I was expecting this to be some standard arena rock, but I loved how interesting the music was and how much the songs pulled from other corners of the genre.
Best Track: Hello Hooray
Rough listen. I actually enjoyed “Jennifer” a good deal, but overall I felt like every time I was getting into a song, some more droning nonsense came in.
Best Track: Jennifer
Chuck D and Flavor Flav’s voices pair so well together. When they’re going back and forth on the same track, it absolutely rules. There were some misses on this album for me, and at times I felt like the samples were a little too hectic and cluttered.
Best Track: Revolutionary Generation
Much like my previous experiences with The The, this record is a mixed bag. Some songs are legitimately awesome, some songs are a little too odd, even for me.
Best Track: Out of the Blue (Into the Fire)
The first few songs were solid pop, but I felt like this album really started connecting with me once the more folksy songs began. I hadn’t heard of The Triffids before, but I will be going back. Great record to listen to while making dinner.
Best Track: Blinder By the Hour
I found myself appreciating this album more than actually enjoying the music, but it’s definitely a solid listen. Also, remarkably clear and crisp for a live album.
Best Track: Soon Forgotten
This album is so important to me and reminds me of when I first started college. Every song is so thoughtfully produced and arranged, and somehow the tracks dance between this deeply personal intimacy and an element of whimsy. It’s all just perfect.
Best Track: Casimir Pulaski Day
Definitely not what I was expecting, in the best way. Incredible energy behind every song and I was a big fan of the instrumentation and the vocals. It was insane to read about the lyricist’s disappearance shortly after this record came out.
Best Track: Yes
Kind of mixed bag for me and definitely more poppy than I thought this group was, but not necessarily in a bad way. I enjoyed the vocals and the ambient indie of it all, but it did feel a bit repetitive at times.
Best Track: No More Runnin
Really effective concept album, felt very personal without being so literal. The instrumentation is always on point with this duo.
Best Track: Old Friends
I understand why this album is on this list, but as far as listening experience is concerned, this one was hard to get through.
Best Track: Around the World
I think this is the first time I listened to a Radiohead record front to back. I was surprised by how much crunchy guitar was in here and thought it melded nicely with Thom Yorke’s vocals. There were a handful of great songs in here, just a few pockets that missed me.
Best Track: Karma Police
This is the second straight Radiohead record I’ve been served (I got OK Computer yesterday). The hit rate on this one is just not as high. There are some truly great songs on here, but there are also several that I was not fond of.
Best Track: Sail To The Moon
Maybe it’s because I am constantly conflating Ryan Adams and Bryan Adams, but I was pleasantly surprised with this record. It was a great blend of rocky-rolly as well as some heartfelt ballad-type stuff. Fun listen!
Best Track: Harder Now That It’s Over
Alright, three out of my last four albums on here have been Radiohead, but man, THIS is what I was waiting for. There isn’t a single bad song on here, no overly eccentric tracks, but still a perfect encapsulation of how this band blends such melodic and somber tones with angst and distortion.
Best Track: High and Dry
This may have been the first Beyoncé album I’ve listened to in full. I didn’t realize how horned up she is! Tons of great tracks on here, and it is a pretty good blend of sensual and soulful.
Best Track: Blue (feat. Blue Ivy)
The first half of this album started off super strong for me, but it lost steam in the second half. Really cool guitar tones.
Best Track: Into The Light
Really fun record, no skips and quite a few excellent jams! I really appreciate that Yeah Yeah Yeahs find a way to be in between genres and mix so many elements well and in a way that is always interesting.
Best Track: Hysteric
Plenty enjoyable, just a little samey for me. Unfortunately, when you listen back to a lot of these 70s rock albums, they sort of just sound like each other. Definitely a couple great jams though.
Best Track: Thirteen
I just love Nick Drake’s sound. There is nothing being overproduced, but for some reason his sound and his voice both feel so ahead of their time. I could listen to this again and again.
Best Track: Northern Sky
I would argue without a doubt that this is one of the most important albums of the 90s, and the hit rate on this record is actually absurd. This is a perfect encapsulation of that incredible 90s angst, and Alanis’s voice is one of a kind.
Best Track: You Learn
This sound is so timeless, but I couldn’t help but feel like this record was just missing a little extra something in every song.
Best Track: Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)
It’s groovy, and I’m all for quality over quantity, but these songs are insanely long. 19 minutes long for that final track, and a lot of spoken word just doesn’t quite do it for me. It’s fine as background music but I’m just not feeling it.
Best Track: One Woman
It’s always fun seeing how a band has evolved when you listen to their older stuff. Really fun listen, has a great raw energy to it that I enjoyed a lot.
Best Track: From The Ritz To The Rubble
A great example that understanding the language is not a requirement to enjoy music. This is a ton of fun, but I’m just not sure I’d go back to it in a hurry.
Best Track: Papa Bohnheur
Fun listen, you really never have to guess if you’re listening to Jack White or not. I’d say there isn’t a bad song on this record, but I’m not quite sure anything really blew me away.
Best Track: Blunderbuss
This album started off so strong, but as it went on I felt like it was a little hot and cold. Some song connected with me in a big way and some just fell flat.
Best Track: Police & Thieves
I really enjoyed the tone of this record, especially the bluegrass elements, but it’s just so long. When there are over 20 songs on an album, I just don’t know if every song can connect. Solid listen though.
Best Track: Colorado
That guitar sounds is more recognizable than a lot of singing voices. Really cool record with some of Jimi’s biggest songs no doubt, and only a couple that weren’t for me.
Best Track: May This Be Love
This was such a fantastic listen. I love how well everyone’s vocals just blend into an incredibly cohesive and lovely sound, almost like a trance. It’s all just so good, I adored this record.
Best Track: Got A Feelin’
I listened to this album on the train, and I think that is a perfect way to enjoy it. My mom used to always play “The Weight” when I was a kid, and listening to that one really made me feel emotional and nostalgic this time around.
Best Track: The Weight
I found this record to be an extremely mixed bag. There are a couple standouts for sure, but a lot of stuff was pretty forgettable.
Best Track: I’ll Spend My Life With You
As far as arena rock goes, there isn’t a more perfect example than this. So many hits on this album, but I can’t quite give it a perfect score due to the cringey edginess, and Axl Rose’s voice is a little tough to listen to for a full hour.
Best Track: Sweet Child O’ Mine
What a delight! It was nice to hear this version of the band beyond just the songs I had heard on this record. I’m not surprised this is the album the band itself is the most proud of. I loved this sound, and only a couple tracks were a slight miss for me.
Best Track: Death of a Disco Dancer
Who knew songs could be over ten minutes and good! Very interesting perspective that this record really only has five songs, but is still one of Pink Floyd’s defining works. It’s just not my personal favorite of theirs.
Best Track: Wish You Were Here
Classic sleepy indie! I loved this sound and I was honestly surprised to see this album was from 1998. It almost feels ahead of its time considering the volume of this type of music that came out in the 2000s. Great listen.
Best Track: Get Me Away from Here, I’m Dying
I consider Iron Maider one of my favorite metal bands by far, but I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a full album. I really enjoyed the raw sound on this record, I just don’t think Maiden became Maiden until Bruce Dickinson took over.
Best Track: Phantom of the Opera
I enjoyed the music, but I felt like it’s a bit better served contributing to a nice cozy morning and not as much as an active listening experience.
Best Track: Pannonica
Super cool record, Nick Cave’s sound is so interesting. He has this haunting way about him that makes his voice so intriguing to listen to, even when he’s not “singing.” Quite a few standouts on this album.
Best Track: Nature Boy
It was interesting to listen to a version of Bowie I hadn’t heard before, but this sound just wasn’t for me. It felt a little too silly at times, but overall definitely not bad.
Best Track: Sound and Vision
Doesn’t get much better than “Run to the Hills,” but I felt like other than that and “The Number of the Beast,” the record didn’t deliver front-to-back as strongly as I was hoping. Still, great listen.
Best Track: Run to the Hills
What a blast! More proof that an album can absolutely deliver even if you only know one out of every ten words. So much fun.
Best Track: Saca Tu Mujer
For all of Mariah’s fame to come after this album, this is her at her best. I absolutely love the true R&B showcased here, while she still has the room to let her vocals shine. Really amazing stuff. Also, the Bone Thugs fit so well on “Breakdown,” and I loved it so much.
Best Track: Breakdown
Don’t come after me…but I think I liked this more than The Pixies? It’s a tad long, but I really enjoyed this sound and some of these songs were genuinely fantastic and almost refreshing.
Best Track: Headache
I do love the fact that this was a secret recording and surprise release, but the majority of songs just didn’t quite do it for me.
Best Track: Where Are We Now?
There aren’t many voices more lovely to listen to than Dolly. And I’m not just saying that because, as a former East Tennessee resident, I’m legally mandated to.
Best Track: Early Morning Breeze
Maybe I don’t like David Bowie as much as I thought, or maybe I just like the hits. This is the second Bowie record I’ve gotten this week (I previously got The Next Day) and neither of them really connected with me at all.
Best Track: Wild Is the Wind
The best genre to come out of the 80s, and one of the best bands to come out of the genre. The hits on this record hit so hard, but there are a few tracks that miss ever so slightly.
Best Track: Pictures of You
Really fun listen! It’s crazy the range of popular music in 1995. You could have told me this record came out a decade earlier and I would believe it. Lots of great jams and enough diversity throughout to keep it engaging.
Best Track: Underwear
Mott The Hoople just knows how to have fun. Their sound stands out in such an interesting way and it always feels just zany enough to be fresh but not too zany that it feels disingenuous or goofy.
Best Track: Hymn for the Dudes
I had a great time listening through this album. I love how varied the songs are, and how Method Man does some quirky things with his voice at times to mix it up. Some great features on here as well, big thumbs up.
Best Track: All I Need
There were some good guitar parts, but it was the keyboard playing that really carried this listening experience for me. I wasn’t too crazy about the vocals.
Best Track: Child in Time
I don’t think we need 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 Pixies album on here. I wasn’t too crazy about it, a lot of nonsense and quite a bit of songs I didn’t feel like listening to all of. Still a couple standouts though, so that’s something.
Best Track: Dig for Fire
Unexpectedly great! I love this type of understated blues and Neil’s voice is just incredible to listen to.
Best Track: The Dolphins
The first half of this record was a little hit or miss for me, but this thing finished strong. A good handful of legitimately great songs, and a genuinely fun listen that I’m sure inspired a ton of my favorite bands.
Best Track: Lost in the Supermarket
Excellent lyricism and storytelling from Leonard Cohen, as always. My big gripe is that, musically, it’s not as interesting as I would like and leaves a lot of the songs feeling kind of one-note. Still a good folk record, for sure.
Best Track: The Partisan
“Ace of Spades” is obviously a classic, but after that, it all just blends together in a mostly forgettable blur. Pretty cool guitar tone though.
Best Track: Ace of Spades
Just a brutal listen. Sulk? Yeah, that’s what I did the whole damn time I was listening through this album. In all sincerity, why is this on here? There is just heaps and heaps of much better music in this genre.
“Best” Track: 18 Carat Love Affair
I wasn’t expecting this to be so pop-rock! Solid listen for sure, I just don’t know if I’m going to hurry back for another listen.
Best Track: Legs
I can honestly say I haven’t heard a sound quite like this, but I was pretty into it! There were a couple misses, but overall really unique and a really fun listen.
Best Track: Sidewalk Serfer Girl
Good listen, kind of exactly what I expected from Cream. Great guitar, some fun jams, but nothing that really broke through to me other than the fact that Sunshine of Your Love was one of the first riffs I learned on guitar way back when.
Best Track: World of Pain
I love REM, from Michael Stipe’s vocals to the way you never really know what kind of vibe you get from track to track. The varied energy and instrumentation makes this such a fun record to listen through.
Best Track: World Leader Pretend
I wasn’t initially getting into it through the first couple songs, but this record really won me over by the end. It sounds almost like a proto-St. Vincent, really fun sound and strikes the fun balance between being silly and also beautifully melodic.
Coming back to say, THAT’S A MAN SINGING?? Holy cow, those are some unbelievable pipes.
Best Track: Hasta Manana, Monsieur
This was so captivating. The first song is almost like listening to every genre all at once, but from there you really get introduced to what this group is all about, and they way they blend so many sounds successfully at all is so impressive. Some songs weren’t quite for me, but these guys won me over for sure.
Best Track: Cuando Canto
The perfect music to listen to riding the train late at night. Really great mood to this entire record, and such soul while also feeling so calm and mellow at the same time.
Best Track: Soukora
This is the type of record you put on for an instant mood boost. Every song, everyone just sounds like they are having so much fun. I love how unserious it all feels, while also being a genuine delight to listen to.
Best Track: (Nothing’s Too Good) For My Baby
It’s always so impressive to hear a band sound fully realized in its debut album. I love listening to the Talking Heads and going through more of their catalog.
Best Track: Pulled Up
Such an excellent listen, and I was especially glad to hear some songs I hadn’t heard before that were also tremendous. There were just a couple songs I felt kind of lukewarm on, but this was a blast.
Best Track: Waiting in Vain
Those first three songs rival the best opening of any album of that era/genre, just banger after banger. The rest of the album is perfectly good, but it just doesn’t compare to that opening run.
Best Track: My Best Friend’s Girl
A very specific listening experience for a very specific mood. I enjoyed the hauntingly beautiful melody, and vocals to match.
Best Track: Song For The New Breed
It’s so weird, but so interesting to listen to! I really don’t know if I like it, but I did like listening to it. I probably won’t hurry back, though.
Best Track: Longue route
It’s Christmas music! Wonderful for about one month a year. Some great tunes on here, but not all of them are my favorite version of the songs. Also, Phil Spector murdered someone.
Best Track: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) by Darlene Love
Two things you can count on listening to the Smiths: excellent guitar playing and mesmerizing vocals. That is on full display here, and the songs range from good to great. I was close to giving this listen full marks, just a couple songs didn’t hit me as much as I would have liked.
Best Track: I Want the One I Can’t Have
When mom says “we have St. Vincent at home,” but it’s Modern Kosmology by Jane Weaver. Jokes aside, this is a very solid album and there were a couple songs I absolutely loved (“Slow Motion” and “Valley”). Nice listen for sure.
Best Track: Slow Motion
This feels like if the movie 𝘚𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘧𝘪𝘴𝘩 was an album. It’s definitely weird, and not necessarily bad, but I have to draw the line between a 2 and a 3 somewhere.
Best Track: Neptune City
This is ELECTRIC. It’s basically every great Van Halen song, and it absolutely rips. Iconic vocals, iconic guitar. Can’t say much more than that, and as far as the genre is concerned, it doesn’t get much better than this.
Best Song: Runnin’ with the Devil
There is a remarkable number of great songs here, especially for a 69-song album. If this was only a meager 50-song album, I’d have no problem giving it a 5. There are just a few too many tracks I felt could have been omitted.
Best Track: All My Little Words
No thanks! Trance nonsense, super annoying listen to be honest.
“Best” Track: Jacob Street 7am
Iconic sound, and iconic that he performed at a prison. I definitely enjoyed listening through it, but overall it just didn’t grab me as much as I would have liked.
Best Track: 25 Minutes to Go
Rap is not always in steady rotation for me, but it’s so easy to tell when you’re listening to the best of it. This is such an incredible example of NY rap, and I can’t think of too many people with a flow that matches Biggie.
Best Track: Juicy
Rob Halford’s vocals are just so great. I love how this album blends a pure punk sound with a little more of the rock & roll tone that some records of this genre tend to miss at times. Really good.
Best Track: Metal Gods
What a delight! This is the exact type of album that makes me grateful I started listening through this. A sound I never would have sought out on my own, but I am so glad I listened. I’ll be going back for sure.
Best Track: Big Iron
This is without a doubt the style of Bowie I enjoy the most. Just weird enough, and still very pleasant to listen through.
Best Track: Changes
Undeniably electric presence, I would’ve taken more favorably to this if JLL wasn’t one of the most notorious scumbags in music history.
Best Track: Great Balls of Fire
Femi was in his bag of tricks with this one! Immaculate vibes and a really fun listening experience, a couple songs were just a tad too jammy and repetitive for my taste.
Best Track: Nawa
What a surprise jam! I’ve got all the time in the world for 90s alternative and this group did an insanely good job covering so many different aspects of the genre in one record, without it feeling disjointed. Really cool sound!
Best Track: Lately
Totally enjoyable listen, it just felt very down-the-middle for me. I can’t say too much negatively about the sound, just nothing that hooked me too much.
Best Track: Marquee Moon
