Popular Reviews

Doggystyle by Snoop Dogg

I’m sorry I slept on this album. First time listen of an entire Snoop album and my golly what a record. I hate weed and codeine. I have no way to connect with these lyrics, but the beats and flow deserve full marks. 5/5

Slippery When Wet by Bon Jovi

I thought I’d love it. So many hits. But the album tracks felt flat. Then I started questioning if the singles were any good.

Hms Fable by Shack

Never heard of this band or album. Opened the link in Apple Music, very surprised it was released in 1999. As a teen in 99, I was obsessed with finding and listening to as much music as possible. How did this escape me? Two seconds in and I understand why. This album is bland, uninspired faff. I hate it. How the hell did this album make the list of albums I HAVE TO HEAR. Really didn’t. 1/5.

Not convinced a live album is the way to be introduced to a band I know in passing. I knew the song Kick Out The Jams and that’s it. I know they’re wildly influential. Maybe you had to be there. This live album is not it. 2/5 because this still beats the only record I’ve given a 1/5.

Live At The Star Club, Hamburg by Jerry Lee Lewis

Can we separate art from the artist? Jerry is another example of a horrible person that did a lot of unforgivable things. This album is full of energy, but he ripped his whole schtick off more deserving musicians. Gotta give a 1/5, bad artist outweighs the art this round.

1-Star Albums (15)

All Ratings (220)

Shaft by Isaac Hayes
Oct 17 2025
Fleet Foxes by Fleet Foxes
Oct 19 2025

Takes me back to being 26 and having no idea what I truly liked. This is not my style, but I have a soft spot for this album and its harmonies.

Either Or by Elliott Smith
Oct 20 2025

Another one that takes me back to figuring out my musical tastes. A (quiet) banger of an album.

American Idiot by Green Day
Oct 21 2025

I hate Green Day, not looking forward to listening. Hopefully some undiscovered gems. They made this into a stage musical after all. After listening: I can see why this translated well into a musical setting. Lots of musical tropes with a rockabilly twist. The best music I’ve heard from Green Day. Unlikely to listen to it again, but I’m impressed. 3.5 rating overall

Nevermind by Nirvana
Oct 22 2025

Classic album from my youth. All my friends loved Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Hole. Grunge hit just as I hit high school. Who can forget the first time they saw the videoclip for Smells Like Teen Spirit?

I’m a Lonesome Fugitive by Merle Haggard
Oct 23 2025

Zero idea of what to expect. Never heard of this artist or album. Pleasantly surprised with melodic slide guitars, country lyric tropes, charming harmonies and a short run time.

Surf's Up by The Beach Boys
Oct 24 2025

I really don’t get the Beach Boys. And there is whistling. No thanks.

Reign In Blood by Slayer
Oct 26 2025

Finally some heavy metal! The last few albums generated for me have been folksy country - genres i wouldn’t normally listen to. I’ve discovered some gems, but Slayer is already a fave.

Back to Basics by Christina Aguilera
Oct 29 2025

Not looking forward to this. Christina has a fine voice, but from what I recall of the singles of the era, these are too clean and pop for my tastes. Here we go… 3 songs in, and I am prepared to admit my original feelings were wrong. This album is great. I think I have singles fatigue. Ain’t No Other Man gets too many spins. End of the album. Sorry I doubted you Christina. 4/5 stars. Oh no. There’s a second disc. It’s dragging down the score to a 3. Really should have thrown disc 2 in the bin.

Devotional Songs by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
Oct 30 2025

Some “world” music making it int the list. I hate that term for such a diverse array of music that falls outside of Western norms. I’d only heard his collab on 7 Seconds (owned the single on cassette tape!) and that’s all I knew going in. I enjoyed it more than expected. Could only listen via YouTube, so I’m missing depth in the mix. The instrumentation and vocals are insane. Not an album I’d put on high rotation, but very happy to have been exposed this once. 4 stars.

Among The Living by Anthrax
Oct 31 2025

Never been a huge Anthrax fan. This is fine. Not going to top their contribution to the Judgement Night soundtrack. Solid 3/5

Copper Blue by Sugar
Nov 02 2025

Hell yeah Bob Mould! Never got around to listening to Sugar, but I love Husker Du. Very excited to give it a spin. Exactly what I expected. Love this. 4.5/5

The Colour Of Spring by Talk Talk
Nov 03 2025

80s synth pop. About time. Another solid 4.5 rating to an album I’ve not listened to in full before today. Well aware of Talk Talk, but I assumed they were another Duran Duran/Human League/insert New Wave band here clone. I was wrong.

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Nov 04 2025

This is unfair. I was brought up listening to Neil Young - he’s my Dad’s favourite artist. Such a nostalgic fave for me and I can’t rate objectively. 5/5 for Neil.

It's A Shame About Ray by The Lemonheads
Nov 05 2025

Another album I’m not excited about. Lemonheads are too slacker grunge bland for my tastes. Let’s see if a forced listen will change my mind. Not as boring as I feared, but won’t listen again. 2.5/5, straight down the middle.

Nov 06 2025

I’ve only ever heard “Lowrider” by Wat. Excited to see what they’ve got! Genuinely enjoyed my first listen. The Cisco Kid was a highlight. Heard a few samples from this record on hip hop albums. Some space jazz grooves with plenty of funk. Not my usual taste, very happy to be exposed. 3.5/5

Axis: Bold As Love by Jimi Hendrix
Nov 07 2025

The only song I know at a glance is “You Got Me Floating” and that’s because PM Dawn covered it. Generally only know the huge Jimi hits, never listened to a full album. I’m not a guitar nerd. Let’s see how this goes. It’s fine. You Got Me Floatin’ is my pick. The rest of the album is meh. I guess hippie psychedelic rock isn’t for me.

Can't Buy A Thrill by Steely Dan
Nov 08 2025

Those harmonies! Confident piano, wailing guitar…unexpected fave from this project. I’ve been sleeping on Steely Dan for too long. I didn’t realise I knew half of these songs already. My parents were of the right era, but this wasn’t their taste. My first listen to a whole Steely Dan album.

Slanted And Enchanted by Pavement
Nov 09 2025

I’m pretty sure I’ll like this. I was a little too young to appreciate Pavement when Slanted and Enchanted came out, but I remember liking later singles. First time giving it a full listen. Thoroughly enjoyable pre-grunge fuzz rock. 4/5. Would listen again.

The Visitors by ABBA
Nov 10 2025

Oh no. Not bad, but not for me. 2/5

Melodrama by Lorde
Nov 11 2025

Slick production. Never inspired to listen to a Lorde album based on her singles, unlikely to listen again. Fine, just not my taste.

The Atomic Mr Basie by Count Basie & His Orchestra
Nov 12 2025

I have no idea what to expect. Ok. The musicianship here is 10/10. But I don’t enjoy this sort of big band jazz. I would probably love this in a live setting. Too tedious as the soundtrack for my afternoon walk. 2/5 to rate it in line with albums I’ve felt the same way about.

Medúlla by Björk
Nov 13 2025

An album I know inside and out - bought the week it was released. Medulla didn’t come out long after Dancer in the Dark - another Bjork album that relied on incidental sounds. I love her approach of relying on vocal instrumentation. Easy 4/5. Deducting one point for some of the tedious moments that come from listening with fresh ears. Core memory unlocked - bought the videoclip for Oceania to watch on my iPod video

Run-D.M.C. by Run-D.M.C.
Nov 14 2025

Another nostalgic fave. I love how simple and stripped down the music is. It may seem too basic in comparison to the rap music made today, but it’s an easy 4/5 from me.

Let's Get It On by Marvin Gaye
Nov 15 2025

I know the title track and that’s it. Excited to hear more from Marvin. Enjoyable R&B. What a voice! Not something I’ll return to, but glad I’ve listened to more than just the singles. 3.5/5

Nov 16 2025

Not convinced a live album is the way to be introduced to a band I know in passing. I knew the song Kick Out The Jams and that’s it. I know they’re wildly influential. Maybe you had to be there. This live album is not it. 2/5 because this still beats the only record I’ve given a 1/5.

Nov 17 2025

Concerned as I’ve found I’m not a fan of 60s Psych Rock. The name and cover lead me to believe it’ll be filled with 60s Psych Rock. Let’s go… It’s an hour and a half, 27 songs. Not bad! Def not as “psychedelic” as I feared. More jangly guitar songs and awkward lyrics. Kinda adorable. I’ll be generous with a 3/5. Won’t relisten, but I enjoyed a taste. Also quickly realised that that the version on Apple Music is a “remaster” so not a full 27 song album. The original recordings (in Mono) then a stereo desk mix run. I’ve stuck with the original recordings. 11 songs of this is totally doable.

Superunknown by Soundgarden
Nov 18 2025

FUCK YEAH! The video clip for Black Hole Sun blew my 12-year old brain. Immediately bought the CD single with pocket money. My sister received the album on cassette for Christmas. Tape is harder to skip around, so I’ve listened to this album in full more times than I can count. 5/5 RIP Chris Cornell.

Live At The Regal by B.B. King
Nov 19 2025

A live album that sounds like love and care was put into recording it. Competent sound engineering! Finally! All instruments crisp and clear. The audience noise adds to the vibe without creating a muddy mess of the audio. I feel like all of the live recordings offered to me on this list thus far have been a pain to listen to. Not my style of music, but I’m rating it a 4 for that fact alone. Lively. I may not have the Blues, but I enjoyed this a lot.

Electric Prunes by The Electric Prunes
Nov 20 2025

Not another Psych Rock album! I’m sure they’ve inspired a tonne of bands I do like (Looking at you Dandy Warhols) and for that I’m grateful. Some gems. After a slow start, I really enjoyed the middle of the album: Get me to the World on time, Sold to the highest bidder, Try me on for size… but too many wrong turns on the journey. 2.5/5

Heartattack And Vine by Tom Waits
Nov 21 2025

Not a Tom Waits album I’m familiar with, but I do like Tom in general. Tom Waits is Tom Waits-ing all over this album. Love. 4/5

Young Americans by David Bowie
Nov 22 2025

One of my least favourite Bowie albums. It always felt pedestrian. It’s still Bowie, so points for musicianship. Hate hate HATE the cover of Across the Universe. Gotta rate this a 2/5.

Car Wheels On A Gravel Road by Lucinda Williams
Nov 23 2025

No thank you. I don’t generally enjoy Country music and this album had zero redeeming features. I suppose it was well recorded. 1/5

The Wildest! by Louis Prima
Nov 24 2025

Having a run of music I’m unfamiliar with. Not my jam, but it’s a fun album. 2.5/5

Darkdancer by Les Rythmes Digitales
Nov 26 2025

Something else from my teen years. My kind of electronica. Fun and easy. 3/5. A few duds but solid overall.

Back To Black by Amy Winehouse
Nov 27 2025

I loved this album at the time. Does it hold up? Amy sounds fab. Love the Mark Ronson production. I must’ve been going through something at the time, but it doesn’t hit the same way. Still giving it a 4/5

Fishscale by Ghostface Killah
Nov 28 2025

RZA and GZA released my favourite solo Wu Tang Clan efforts. This is a solid entry. Ghostface always performs better with others. 3.5/5

Pink Moon by Nick Drake
Nov 29 2025

Haven’t listened to this album since a guy I had a crush on recommended it to me in my early 30s. Over 10 years later, let’s see how this holds up. Had to give the album a second listen. First time I was out running errands. Pink Moon requires your full attention, otherwise easily drowned out by sounds of life. Everything is so delicate. Lovely. No need to add to my regular rotation, but this album absolutely deserves a place on the list. 5/5

Nov 30 2025

Iconic act. Lucky to catch them live a few years back. Such a great album, I left it on repeat while i cleaned the house. 5/5 good vibes.

Halcyon Digest by Deerhunter
Dec 01 2025

One of those acts I loved in the indie sleaze 2010s era because they weren’t as pop and polish. Listening with fresh ears and this album is a product of its time. Still really enjoy the dreamy shoegaze elements. I need to go back and relisten to all of those old Deerhunter albums. 4/5

Amnesiac by Radiohead
Dec 02 2025

My favourite Radiohead album. Don’t need to listen to know this is a 5/5 I’m not a person who slavishly follows and enjoys Radiohead. Fell off around In Rainbows, but Kid A and Amnesiac are up there on my personal favourite album list. We ride tonight!

Let It Be by The Replacements
Dec 03 2025

This was fine. I know they influenced some of my favourite bands. I liked it, but wasn’t blown away.

Dec 05 2025

I only know Rod’s crooning era. This is a rollicking good time. Some blues. Some folk. Slide guitar. Those raspy vocals. I enjoyed this much more than I expected. Not my thing, and I won’t be seeking out more Rod. Solid 3/5.

Music for the Masses by Depeche Mode
Dec 06 2025

Violator is a favourite album and I swore I’ve listened to all DM had to offer. I haven’t. I knew the main single and that was it. This is how I like my DM - moody, synthy, dark. Adding this to the regular rotation!

Dec 07 2025

Yereeaaaahhhhhh boooooiiiiii. Iconic. Influential. Not one of my faves, but I appreciate what Public Enemy have done for rap music. Love the Anthrax collab. 3/5

Teenage Head by Flamin' Groovies
Dec 08 2025

This project has started disturbing my Apple Music algorithm. Random artists from my previous listens end up in my “radio station”. Most of the time it’s great! Apple knows I’m expanding my knowledge and throws me new tunes from newly discovered faves. But then there are the bad ones. Latter day ABBA. That terrible Beach Boys album. I fear the Flamin’ Groovies are on that list. Not for me. 1/5.

Dec 10 2025

Nothing else reminds me of being 20 something than this album. Do I want to go on that trip down memory lane? Not many standouts besides the three huge singles. The Handshake is good. Don’t mind Future Reflections. 3/5

Da Capo by Love
Dec 11 2025

I have no idea what to expect, but check out those outfits! They’ve gone all in on “flute”. Wouldn’t say this is truly “Psychedelic Rock”. Hints of, for sure, but this feels much lighter and airy compared to much psych rock. Really enjoyed how clear and bright everything sounds.. Despite some weirdness - is that a bicycle bell? - I enjoyed this more than I had any right to. 4/5

At Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash
Dec 12 2025

Infamous recording and performance. Amazing artefact. The audience participation adds so much to the listening experience. Do I like Johnny Cash? No. But this album is fantastic.

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones
Dec 13 2025

Oh no. Bland commercial jazz incoming! I did listen to the whole album. Norah has a lovely voice, but not for me. Rounding up to a 2/5 because I enjoyed I’ve Got To See You Again. Handing out 1 star ratings to irredeemable listens.

Orbital 2 by Orbital
Dec 14 2025

Orbital sampling Sydney pedestrian crossing signals way before Billie Eilish. Throwback to raves in Uni days and attempting similar sampling techniques in my “audio” classes. 4/5

Dec 15 2025

Liars rock. Amazing to catch live. 5/5 Everyone I know loves Liars, so I wasn’t expecting the bad reviews. Maybe you had to be there in the early 00’s? Was it a Pitchfork thing?

On The Beach by Neil Young
Dec 16 2025

Another classic album from Neil. Know this album well - my parents are huge fans and they played this record constantly. It’s not just nostalgia. This album is seriously good.

GREY Area by Little Simz
Dec 18 2025

Having a problem with my old reviews overwriting a thoughtful take on the new album I’m trying to review. An option to edit submitted reviews would be really helpful! I seem a little scatterbrained otherwise. (Thanks for allowing this as a beta! Just editing some of my incorrect ramblings from earlier in the project). On this album (I hope!) - really enjoyed Simz. Been meaning to give this album a listen. 35 mins of killer, no filler. New fan! Harkening back to the garage 2-step British rap I was a fan of in the early 00s

With The Beatles by Beatles
Dec 19 2025

Oh no. I really wasn’t looking forward to the day The Beatles would end up in my list. Never liked them. No nostalgia attached. Maybe not the best album to be served up as a first album full listen.

Sunday At The Village Vanguard by Bill Evans Trio
Dec 20 2025

Unexpected gem. Would listen again when I need some peppy jazz music. Replayed in the car - perfect driving music. I kept forgetting this was a live session until the audience clapped after each song.

Eagles by Eagles
Dec 21 2025

I wouldn’t have thought I was an Eagles fan, but this is basically a smoother Crosby Still Nash Young album. Loved the two openers, but the middle fell off. I draw the line at birdsong and banjo. Great song to finish (or at least better than the proceeding tracks). 2/5 for the bangers.

Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth
Dec 22 2025

LOVE. Always have a good time with a Sonic Youth album.

Aqualung by Jethro Tull
Dec 23 2025

Finally got some Prog in my list. Loved my first time listening to of a Jethro Tull album in full. All I really knew going in was that there would be a lot of flute. Thick as a Brick. I always think of this style as 70s wizard rock. These guys inspired a lot of goth/folk/prog/metal bands that I love. Especially Opeth. Will be adding Jethro Tull to regular rotation. 5/5.

Ocean Rain by Echo And The Bunnymen
Dec 24 2025

Overwrought gothic whimsy with a punk edge. Loved the orchestral elements. Some of these lyrics are a bit much. Solid 3/5. Others did it better.

Hms Fable by Shack
Dec 25 2025

Never heard of this band or album. Opened the link in Apple Music, very surprised it was released in 1999. As a teen in 99, I was obsessed with finding and listening to as much music as possible. How did this escape me? Two seconds in and I understand why. This album is bland, uninspired faff. I hate it. How the hell did this album make the list of albums I HAVE TO HEAR. Really didn’t. 1/5.

Dec 26 2025

Did they do this on purpose? Yes. Checking everyone else’s review dates, this album lands in your list on Christmas. It’s kinda cute. What isn’t cute is Phil Spector. I enjoyed these takes on Christmas staples. Or did this album make them staples? Either way, this was a fun album. What isn’t fun is Phil Spector. Let’s give it a 3/5 and move on.

Brothers by The Black Keys
Dec 27 2025

I liked the first few Black Keys albums, this was where I fell off. Giving it a listen in late 2025 I feel the same. Songs are fine the band are very tight. Their aged blues aesthetic works. But it’s much more commercial. Even Danger Mouse can’t save these tracks. I understand how this album landed on the list, but I’m still not a fan of latter day Black Keys. 3/5

Life's Too Good by The Sugarcubes
Dec 28 2025

I loved this album as a teen. Of course I loved Bjork first, then discovered the Sugar Cubes record crate digging at a vinyl fair. Holds up! Rating this classic 4/5. Wish I still owned that vinyl…download will have to do.

Eliminator by ZZ Top
Dec 29 2025

First full album listen of a ZZ top record. I knew the singles - all big dumb catchy numbers that were stuck in my head all day. The rest was pedestrian. The same chugging guitar and zero tempo changes in the drums. Big beards and dumb lyrics can only take you so far. 3/5

Endtroducing..... by DJ Shadow
Dec 30 2025

Killer record. DJ Shadow’s magnum opus. 5/5

Elvis Is Back by Elvis Presley
Dec 31 2025

Before today I wouldn’t have counted myself as an Elvis fan. We all know the big hits. The dance. The outfits. But this felt pure and fun. Something my conservative Nan would have loved back in the day. 4/5

At San Quentin by Johnny Cash
Jan 01 2026

Second live Johnny Cash album I’ve been assigned in almost as many weeks. I’m becoming a Cash convert. The banter is as much as a star as the songs. 4/5

Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel
Jan 02 2026

No thanks. I’ve never liked anything from these two. Listening to a full album was torture. At least it was only 30 mins. 1/5 that single star is for giving The Bangles a great tune to cover.

Natty Dread by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Jan 03 2026

Not a reggae fan. But I did enjoy this more than I expected. Went back to listen to some of my faves as soon as the initial listen was over. I suppose Bob Marley is a legend for a reason. Would be perfect tunes for a sunny arvo with bevs. 3.5/5

E.V.O.L. by Sonic Youth
Jan 04 2026

Yes I might have been introduced to EVOL after a cover of Starpower was performed on Gossip Girl, but what of it? 4/5

The Slim Shady LP by Eminem
Jan 05 2026

I LOVED this album when it came out. Listening many years later, I have perspective. There are too many skits. Still a tent pole album. But 3/5. Sorry Slim.

Machine Head by Deep Purple
Jan 06 2026

Loved it. Big heavy grooves galore. 4/5

Heroes to Zeros by The Beta Band
Jan 07 2026

Only aware of Beta Band thanks to High Fidelity. What an album! I was really surprised at the range. I would have thought they were more sad acoustic and preppy. 4.5/5. Knocking off half a star for a few dull moments.

The Idiot by Iggy Pop
Jan 08 2026

Perfectly fine. Not a fave yet a good listen. 4/5 but not a regular spin.

Catch A Fire by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Jan 09 2026

A second Bob Marley album in a week? I can’t handle this much reggae. Apple Music will start recommending more of the same in my feed! But then again, I didn’t mind the last album. This was real good. Do I like reggae?? 3/5. Very confused.

My Generation by The Who
Jan 10 2026

There are 4 versions of this album on Apple Music. After wading through to find the version with the fewest tracks (12, in Mono) I sat through 36 mins of ok commercial rock that was probably edgy at the time. Not my thing. “I’m a Man” cover is particularly egregious, followed by “A Legal Matter”. 2/5 From reading some of the other reviews it looks like I’ll have a lot more The Who to listen to down the line. Yay?

Shalimar by Rahul Dev Burman
Jan 11 2026

Loved it! This is why I wanted to do this project - expose myself to music I wouldn’t have come across organically. 5/5

Station To Station by David Bowie
Jan 12 2026

Had to give this a second listen before I could get into it. I always thought I loved this album, but the first listen didn’t hook me and I started questioning my assumed love of all Bowie. Second time around worked a treat. A short but solid entry from Bowie’s Thin White Duke era 3.5/5

Frank by Amy Winehouse
Jan 13 2026

Less bombastic than Back to Black. It seems wrong to say that an album with heavy-ish lyrical content is a breezy jazzy listen, but that was my lasting impression. Cut a few tracks and this album would land in my regular rotation. 4/5

Rio by Duran Duran
Jan 14 2026

Whenever I need a mood booster, I pop on “Greatest”. Duran Duran have plenty of amazing hits. Their album tracks also deliver. Rio is simply bop after bop. No misses. 5/5. Props to the bass lines and sexy saxophone.

It's Too Late to Stop Now by Van Morrison
Jan 15 2026

I come at this live album as a Van Morrison virgin. The band sounds tight. Does Van always sound like he’s over singing and chewing on every lyric? This album is by no means something I will ever listen to again, but it was a fine intro to Van Morrison. A bit long, but I suppose we get the full concert experience. 3/5.

Disraeli Gears by Cream
Jan 17 2026

The drums sound like they were recorded in another room filled with blankets. Muffled into oblivion. Cream are known for the guitar riffs and they deliver here. Sunshine Of Your Love slaps. The rest can stay in the 60s. Vocals are so thin. Agreed wholeheartedly with the I hate Eric Clapton sentiments expressed others. I would be more understanding if Mothers Lament was a Monty Python skit. 2/5 for Sunshine and Tales of Brave Ulysses .

Sheet Music by 10cc
Jan 19 2026

J Dilla sampling The Worst Band in The World was the best thing that ever happened to 10cc. Too many ideas per song. I’ve listened a few times through and I still don’t know if I like it. 2.5/5 I suppose?

Blue Lines by Massive Attack
Jan 20 2026

I love Massive Attack, but I don’t love all of their tracks. Blue Lines carries a few classic tracks (Safe From Harm, Unfinished Sympathy) and all of the hallmarks of early Trip Hop. Hard to believe they were so fully formed on their debut, but I would recommend later MA albums over this one.

Tago Mago by Can
Jan 21 2026

Experimental noisy genius.

Shaka Zulu by Ladysmith Black Mambazo
Jan 22 2026

I’m glad this album was on the list so I could be exposed to music I wouldn’t seek out. But I found this really boring even though I tried hard to appreciate the soft harmonies. Tainted by Paul Simon.

Spiderland by Slint
Jan 23 2026

I can’t be objective. Daniel Johns (silverchair) said this album was one of his faves so 14 year old me (massive silverchair fan) hunted it down and has been listening ever since. Haunting and poetic post-rock. 5/5 I’ve now listened to this album in full over 8 times in 24 hours. Washer and Good Morning Captain are divine. All tracks rate highly. 14 year old me was onto something. Putting Slint back in regular rotation. Trivia - Will Oldham aka Bonnie “Prince” Billy took the cover photo. Makes me love this album even more.

My Aim Is True by Elvis Costello
Jan 24 2026

This was fine. I’ve never listened to a full Elvis Costello album and I liked it a tonne more that I thought I would. Some odd moments. Not prepared for a dash of reggae. Elvis’s voice grates occasionally. 4/5 to be generous.

There's A Riot Goin' On by Sly & The Family Stone
Jan 25 2026

Funky. Sampled to death. Liked this so much more than I expected to.

At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band
Jan 26 2026

Bit too bluesy for my taste. And yet another live album.

Iron Maiden by Iron Maiden
Jan 27 2026

My favourite Iron Maiden album remains Powerslave. Their self titled debut showcases what was to come for Maiden. Solid riffs. Thrash metal incarnate. 4/5

Jan 28 2026

I was 8 when this album came out so it went over my head. I’m sorry Sinead. Your voice is intense. Pure. Loved this record. There’s a very 90s feel to the guitar forward tracks. 5/5. Rip.

Sister by Sonic Youth
Jan 29 2026

More Sonic Youth? This is the third SY album thus far. Not mad about it, but I’m sure there are more bands deserving of a place. Anyway! A great album overall. Feeling charitable- full marks.

1999 by Prince
Jan 30 2026

Funky. Sexy. It’s Prince. 5/5

The Number Of The Beast by Iron Maiden
Jan 31 2026

Second Iron Maiden album in the space of a week 🤘looks like this album was released a week before I was born and has aged just as well as I have. 5/5

You Want It Darker by Leonard Cohen
Feb 01 2026

This is beautiful. I’ve been handing out full marks left and right these days. But this album needs full marks. I’ve been hooked on Leonard ever since my first watch of Pump Up The Volume. Would LC care that I associate him with a hot Christian Slater? Anyway, getting off track trying to bring some levity to this final album from Cohen. Stunning. 5/5.

Definitely Maybe by Oasis
Feb 02 2026

No. No. No. No. No. I cat stand Oasis. It’s not a Blur v Oasis thing for me. Brit Pop not my thing. This album gets a 2 for being the one that doesn’t have Wonderwall on it. Every song sounds the same.

Cloud Nine by The Temptations
Feb 03 2026

I was dancing in my seat during work hours. Not an album I’m adding to regular rotation, but it was a fun listen. 4/5.

Feb 04 2026

Eeeeewwwwww. Noooooooo. Ok, now that I’ve gotten my initial impression out of the way (never heard an AM single on the radio that I enjoyed) I have to say I liked the album much more than expected. The non-single tracks hold up. I wouldn’t have thought so until I was “forced” to listen to an entire album. Still not a fan, but their esteem has risen. 3.5/5

1989 by Taylor Swift
Feb 05 2026

I don’t understand the Swifties. Not for me. I’d be happy never hearing Shake it Off ever again. I’ve never purposely listened to a TS album. Not surprised by how many tracks I recognised - she’s inescapable at the gym, on radio, in tv shows… I desperately want to give this a 1 star before listening, but the production saves it from being the worst of the worst. 2/5

Calenture by The Triffids
Feb 06 2026

As an Aussie born in the 80s, this was the music I was brought up listening to. Hard to separate the nostalgia from the sounds, but I can’t understand the low rating by others. Not The Triffids best (Born Sandy Devotional. Classic.) but up there in the pantheon. So very 80s. 4/5

Let It Bleed by The Rolling Stones
Feb 07 2026

Gimme Shelter is a banger. The rest of the album bops along without any tracks standing out. 3/5

Savane by Ali Farka Touré
Feb 08 2026

Happy to be exposed to sounds outside of my comfort zone. Not an album I’ll return to, but worth a listen and worth a place on this list. Still not my thing and im finding it hard to rate. Going with a line ball 3/5 for being interesting.

Feb 09 2026

I saw these guys at the end of last year. And many times before. Massive fan of TVoTR. What a debut album. Experimental but so listenable. An easy 5/5 from me.

To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar
Feb 10 2026

Not my favourite Kendrick album. If only I could pull the few tracks I like from each of his records and make my own “best of”. What we have here is a classic. Wonderful mix of jazz and rap with dark themes. But I can only give a 4/5

Sincere by Mj Cole
Feb 11 2026

Never heard of this artist before. From the opener I clocked a 00’s British garage DJ/producer. Surprised Craig David didn’t drop a feature. Bland, forgettable. MJ wishes he was Artful Dodger. Why is this an album I had to hear before I died? 2/5

Woodface by Crowded House
Feb 12 2026

I know all five singles VERY well. As a person who grew up in Australia during the 90s, those tracks were inescapable. All five singles still rate highly, even Chocolate Cake. But the rest of the album is light filler. Sorry Neil. Depending on how charitable I’m feeling Woodface rates a 3-4 out of 5 stars.

Fred Neil by Fred Neil
Feb 13 2026

New to me! Undiscovered gem. Fred has a lovely voice. Gravelly with a light twang. Not so folksy and country that they couldn’t add some mystical raga at the finale. 4/5

She's So Unusual by Cyndi Lauper
Feb 14 2026

My babysitter used to bring the vinyl over so that we could “bop” around the living room while my parents had a night out (carefully, don’t want the needle to skip). So 80s it hurts. Most of the tracks hold up I never knew there were so many covers on this album. Starts to drag by the end, but I’m forever grateful for the fun memories thanks to this record (and thanks Debbie!). 4/5.

Live At The Star Club, Hamburg by Jerry Lee Lewis
Feb 15 2026

Can we separate art from the artist? Jerry is another example of a horrible person that did a lot of unforgivable things. This album is full of energy, but he ripped his whole schtick off more deserving musicians. Gotta give a 1/5, bad artist outweighs the art this round.

Ritual De Lo Habitual by Jane's Addiction
Feb 16 2026

I’ve never liked Jane’s Addiction, but I didn’t mind listening to a full album. Been Caught Stealing is awful and I hate it. The album tracks were fine. “Pets” would be the only Perry Farrell track I’d voluntarily listen to ever again (not a Porno For Pyros fan either). Giving this a better than expected 3/5

Tommy by The Who
Feb 17 2026

Don’t like The Who but I’ve always been intrigued by Tommy. I’ve heard so much about this album, but felt underwhelmed. Too long. Didn’t hit the right notes for me. Started skipping through tracks to find redeeming features. 2/5

#1 Record by Big Star
Feb 18 2026

I have no strong feelings either way. A ‘meh’ 3/5 from me. Forgettable but not bad.

Hot Fuss by The Killers
Feb 19 2026

I try to keep an open mind and face my persona biases. As soon as I opened the link today and was faced with The Killers, I had an immediate ick. I’ve never liked any of their singles. All of which were overplayed in the clubs I hit up during my 20s. These tracks ended up in Guitar Hero. I was forced to play through them to level up. Despite confronting those biases, I’ve come to the conclusion that I still don’t like The Killers and I didn’t need to listen to this record before I died. 2/5 Please never play Mr Brightside within my earshot

California by American Music Club
Feb 20 2026

So earnest and doing too much. Unfinished demo vibes. Not for me. 2/5

Dookie by Green Day
Feb 21 2026

My sister had this CD, so I suppose I could have listened to Dookie before today. I’m not a pop punk gal and didn’t like the singles at the time. A full album listen was OK. No further comment.

Logical Progression by LTJ Bukem
Feb 22 2026

I left the album on repeat as I did chores. Love some jungle beats. And the rest was nicely mellow. 4/5

Faith by George Michael
Feb 23 2026

Definite twinges of nostalgia for this sound. Those 80s synths and George’s vocals take me back to my childhood. Father Figure is an eternal fave. I can’t give this more than a 3.5/5, the rest of the album blurs into more of the same. It’s good, but nothing that grabs me.

Hail To the Thief by Radiohead
Feb 24 2026

I suppose it was only a matter of time before more Radiohead entered the chat. There’s so much interesting stuff going on musically that it almost makes up for how whiny Thom sounds. More so than usual. A headphones listen for sure, but not one of their best. Could easily have been left off the list of essential listens. 3/5

Apocalypse Dudes by Turbonegro
Feb 25 2026

I quite liked this album and will have to listen to their others. Yes it’s juvenile, but it’s also fun and irreverent. Not sure why it’s on this list though. 3.5/5

Doggystyle by Snoop Dogg
Feb 26 2026

I’m sorry I slept on this album. First time listen of an entire Snoop album and my golly what a record. I hate weed and codeine. I have no way to connect with these lyrics, but the beats and flow deserve full marks. 5/5

No Other by Gene Clark
Feb 27 2026

I thought I was going to be hit with some 40s rag time by the looks of that cover. Pleasantly surprised by some funkier, country-er, CNSY-esque tracks. Enjoyed my time with this record. I could imagine giving No Other full marks if I’d grown up listening to it. 4/5

Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós
Feb 28 2026

I listened the heck out of this album when I was 17. What?!? More music out of Iceland (that’s not Bjork). Made up language lyrics? Let’s see if it holds up. Ok, this album feels like soaking in a warm bath. Do I love it as much as I did in 1999? No. Did I ever really like it or was I trying to get a return on purchase of my CD? Cost per listen? In any case, great album that has lost some lustre (for me. I get it that people love this record). Fave track remains Olsen Olsen. Necessary on the list. Hovering just below a 4/5.

Under Construction by Missy Elliott
Mar 01 2026

What a joy to listen to Missy at her finest.

Everything Must Go by Manic Street Preachers
Mar 02 2026

I have a soft spot for the Preachers. They’re a lot more emo than the rest of the Brit Pop scene from that era. Some punk is showing. They get a generous 4 from me (my fave song of theirs isn’t on this album, that would have taken them to a 5).

Rock 'N Soul by Solomon Burke
Mar 03 2026

Loved it. What a voice! Not much variation, but who cares.

Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones
Mar 04 2026

I think i preferred it when they were doing Honky Tonk than whatever this is. A middling of the road “classic”. Boring. 2/5

London Calling by The Clash
Mar 05 2026

An important album for punk. Liked it more than I expected to.

Blood, Sweat & Tears by Blood, Sweat & Tears
Mar 06 2026

I was very confused when this album opened with my alarm song. The WTF moments didn’t stop there. Rocking out, then switch to some quiet flute. Throw some country into a jazzy track. Spinning Wheel is a BST original? So confused. Some great musicianship on display, but I’m not into it. 2/5

Foo Fighters by Foo Fighters
Mar 07 2026

I was 14 when this album came out. Grunge was everywhere. Me and my friends passed this tape around. The Big Me music vid was a cultural touchpoint. I don’t really like much Foo Fighters past this album - nostalgia only takes you so far - but I still love the raw energy of a man who felt compelled to keep making music. Some filler tunes bring it down to a 3/5

Dig Your Own Hole by The Chemical Brothers
Mar 08 2026

Some classic dance anthems mixed in with overlong filler tracks. I was too busy listening to NuMetal and Grunge in 1997, but Chemical Brothers were universally popular. Never thought too much about them until I saw CB live at a music festival. These guys know how to work a crowd. Push The Button is my personal fave. Some good music here, but I’m feeling compelled to listen to their later albums.

...Baby One More Time by Britney Spears
Mar 09 2026

Wow, the non-single album tracks are awful! I don’t miss that time in the 90s when everyone was sneaking reggae vibes into pop tunes (Soda Pop). The song Baby One More Time is a treasure, the rest was on a scale of “fun bop from the late 90s” to “unlistenable slop”. Love Britney, not her debut. 2/5

Odelay by Beck
Mar 10 2026

I’m a casual Beck fan. Seen him live a few times. Have some songs in playlists. But I’ve never listened to a full album. All I can say about Odelay is that it is very “Beck” and I wasn’t taken by the non-single tracks. It was fine but I leaned nothing new.

Larks' Tongues In Aspic by King Crimson
Mar 11 2026

Grew on me as it went. The first track was so avant guard art rock that I was preparing my ears for a Can record. Then the prog rock kicked in. Some of the instrumentation choices were so bizarre that I couldn’t tell if they were taking the piss or were deathly serious. I immediately went to listen to other King Crimson records. Leaning toward “deathly serious” but I think I’m a fan?

High Violet by The National
Mar 12 2026

The Walkmen. The National. The Editors. I’m sure there are many more bands that sound the same with similar names. The 2010s were rife with them. I remember trying to enjoy all of these bands because my friends did. I’ve seen The National (and The Walkmen et al) live in concert. Anyone’s Ghost is a great track. Overall, best left in 2010. Give me Interpol any day. 2.5/5 for the mems

Bug by Dinosaur Jr.
Mar 13 2026

This week I’vebeen haunted by bands my 20’s self tried to endure/ discover. I’m at the end of the tether, let’s give this album a try. Nope, still not a Dinosaur Jr fan. Unsure why I love Sonic Youth but the buzzy guitars of DJ don’t do it for me.

25 by Adele
Mar 14 2026

Oh no. No. No. No. No. Great voice. Not for me.

Sex Packets by Digital Underground
Mar 15 2026

Solid fun 90s rap/hip hop. Not the best example of the era, but worthy of a listen. 3.5/5

The Specials by The Specials
Mar 16 2026

I hate ska. I didn’t hate this. A sign that I should expand my world view and not judge? I suppose I did like all of those Bob Marley albums I’ve been served up in this project. 3/5

Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone
Mar 17 2026

I liked this more than I did the other S+tFS album that has already popped up in my list (are there more?). But still not for me. Definitely a case where I understand the importance of an act and their music, but I still don’t vibe with it. 3/5

Red Headed Stranger by Willie Nelson
Mar 18 2026

Totally charmed by the simple arrangements and rich vocals. Lyrics stay away from country cliches. I knew Willie was prolific but would never have guessed this was his 18th album. Undiscovered gem (to me). 5/5

Songs The Lord Taught Us by The Cramps
Mar 19 2026

Loved it. Can’t believe this was my first listen- these tunes felt so familiar. Low budget recording cannot detract!

The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest
Mar 20 2026

Classic from top to bottom. Easy 5/5

Hot Rats by Frank Zappa
Mar 21 2026

My first Zappa album. I had fun with it. Guitar jams and jazz aren’t my usual, but I’d be open to listening to more Zappa. 4/5

Songs Of Leonard Cohen by Leonard Cohen
Mar 22 2026

I love Leonard, but I’ve never been able to get into this album. Not sure why. Too folky? Too quiet? It’s missing a gravitas i expect. I know that’s because this is his debut and rarely does any artist arrive fully formed. I can hear what I love about latter Leonard Cohen forming in these tracks, but I can’t give full marks. 3.5/5

Risque by CHIC
Mar 23 2026

Chic are such a fun act to see live. I’ve luckily caught them at a few festivals, and the vibes match a festival experience. Nile is a genius. Light and bubbly album with enough going on to make 38 mins seem short. Hardly perfect, but what is? 4/5

Mar 24 2026

Only prior exposure to George Clinton or Funkadelic was via the 90s frat boy film PCU Pit Party. Oh, and Maggotbrain. What I have come to learn about my musical tastes undertaking this project - I don’t like Psychedelica. Funk is hit and miss. But, I apparently love a mix of Funk and Psychedelica with a heavy dose of rock and roll. Fun album. I can see why Jeremy Piven invited these guys to play at the Pit Party. 4/5

Mar 25 2026

Remember mail order CD clubs? We ordered Automatic for the People from one of those. I bet my parents still have it floating around their CD collection. My parents were the types of people to buy a full album and only play the singles, thus most of this record is a fresh listen. So good! I suppose 10 year old me wouldn’t have appreciated REM anyway.

Drunk by Thundercat
Mar 26 2026

I appreciate a Thundercat guest spot. A full album is too much. A couple of interesting ideas, but not enough for me to ever revisit. Give me Flying Lotus any day. Highlights - Michael McDonald! Friend Zone.

Mar 27 2026

Insipid. Boring. A feather could knock it over. If we’re putting a LDR record on the list, at least chose Norman Fucking Rockwell. 1/5.

Meat Is Murder by The Smiths
Mar 28 2026

Morrisey is an awful human. But what a voice. This is a perfect The Smiths album. Captures all of the feels from an 80s romantic gothic punk point of view. I got into The Smiths when I was recording collecting in my teens and bought vinyls from the charity bins for a couple of dollars.

Harvest by Neil Young
Mar 29 2026

Don’t even need to give this a listen to give Harvest full marks. My parents brought me up on Neil. They brought me up right.

Shake Your Money Maker by The Black Crowes
Mar 30 2026

You can tell a lot about an album by what other records Apple Music lists under “You Might Also Like” underneath the record you’re currently streaming. For The Black Crows we have Kenny Wayne Shepard, Blues Traveler, Kid Rock, Buckcherry, Bob Seger and Matchbox 20. All artists that give me a massive ick. Not the worst album I’ve heard on this list, but not for me.

Blonde On Blonde by Bob Dylan
Mar 31 2026

It all sounds the same. Bob’s vocal cadence got to me at the halfway mark. DNF.

Birth Of The Cool by Miles Davis
Apr 01 2026

Fine background music. No real feelings about this one. Sorry Miles.

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Apr 02 2026

I tried to like the first two Arcade Fire albums when they came out. I never got into the Suburbs in 2010 and I feel even more ambivalent toward it in 2026. Accusations against Win Butler also taint their legacy. 2/5.

Apr 03 2026

Love! Immediately adding to my playlist. Another band I’ll be diving into - thanks for the intro.

Here's Little Richard by Little Richard
Apr 04 2026

Lots of fun. A very important voice in rock n roll. But when will we get some Korn? Deftones?

Here Are the Sonics by The Sonics
Apr 05 2026

Why is this on the list? Mostly boring covers. The originals didn’t do anything for me. 1/5

Goodbye And Hello by Tim Buckley
Apr 06 2026

So earnest. I only know Tim as Jeff’s dad. I think my dad had some TBuckley vinyl? In any case, I liked the theatrics and weird lyrics. Sometimes a flute hits right. 3.5/5

The ArchAndroid by Janelle Monáe
Apr 07 2026

Janelle is a firecracker. I saw her on the Archandroid tour (at the Sydney Opera House, she had everyone on their feet after the first song) and thought her live show was a million times better than the record. Shameful that this album isn’t in my regular rotation. A bit hit and miss at the tail end of the album. 4/5

Future Days by Can
Apr 08 2026

I love Can. This is one of their easier listens.

Rum Sodomy & The Lash by The Pogues
Apr 09 2026

I’m sorry but no. There is something about the Pogues that sets my teeth on edge. (See also Dropkick Murphy’s) Maybe it was Stockholm Sydrome in effect, but I found myself enjoying the album the deeper I went. An hour was still too much. 2/5 Dour and depressing, I needed more Guiness and whiskey before diving in.

Apr 10 2026

Enjoyable jangly guitar 70s punk. Sounds like a lot of jangly guitar 70s punk. Didn’t need to be on the list, but I’m adding to my favourites. 4/5.

Transformer by Lou Reed
Apr 11 2026

I’ve never been a fan of the Velvet Underground or Lou Reed. I didn’t hate this, but I’m not coming away with new favourites. 3/5

Vulnicura by Björk
Apr 12 2026

Dream team of Bjork, Arca, and The Haxan Cloak. Possibly Bjork’s best record? Lionsong kills me.

The Coral by The Coral
Apr 13 2026

Never heard of them. This album sucks. Shouldn’t be anywhere near this list. 0 stars if I could.

Superfly by Curtis Mayfield
Apr 14 2026

Similar feeling to the Shaft soundtrack that I reviewed as my first album of the project. Very important. Endlessly sampled. But not for me.

Slippery When Wet by Bon Jovi
Apr 15 2026

I thought I’d love it. So many hits. But the album tracks felt flat. Then I started questioning if the singles were any good.

Apr 16 2026

I couldn’t get past the first few tracks. I took up this project to expose myself to more music, but sometimes novelty isn’t enough.

Happy Sad by Tim Buckley
Apr 17 2026

Second Tim Buckley album inside a month. I appreciate the xylophone and some other odd instrumentation. However. Tracks dawdle past their due date. Scales tip closer to “sad” over “happy”. Tim has a great voice and I love it when he starts to wail. Another 3/5 for Tim.

Talking Book by Stevie Wonder
Apr 19 2026

Maybe Your Baby is an instant fave. I only knew Superstition going in. Wow, I get it. If only the whole album was that funky. The saccharine slow love songs didn’t do it for me at all. Saying that, Stevie has more musical talent in his pinkie finger than I will ever possess.

Phrenology by The Roots
Apr 20 2026

I’m biased. I love The Roots. Things Falling Apart is a perfect debut. Have been lucky to see these guys live. Phrenology has plenty of great moments. Maybe not as amazing as their debut, but worthy of a spot on the list. The Seed is a perennial fave.

The Genius Of Ray Charles by Ray Charles
Apr 21 2026

The band is tight. Ray is smooth. A great collection of jazzy standards that I can imagine my Nan would have loved. 3.5/5

Faust IV by Faust
Apr 22 2026

Right up my alley. Adding to my playlist and seeking out the rest of their catalogue. 5/5

Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet
Apr 23 2026

Not the sort of jazz I was expecting. Something whimsical in there, but highly listenable. Never heard of this album or artist before. I lie. We get to Take Five and I have one thousand percent heard this before. The rest of the album is great. Adding to my rotation.

Grace by Jeff Buckley
Apr 24 2026

I knew this day would come. I’ve had two albums from Daddy Buckley Tim pop up, time for Jeff. Didn’t like Jeff in 94 and not looking forward to this listen. Too many housemates in uni who would crank this on the shared stereo. Leaving behind my initial bias - Jeff has a great voice. I like some of the guitar riffs. Still not a fan. 2/5

Remain In Light by Talking Heads
Apr 25 2026

Yes yes YES! The live version of Once in a Lifetime on Stop Making Sense is one of my favourite tracks of all time. SMS is my favourite Talking Heads album - my parents had the CD and played it at top volume when I was a kid. The regular recorded versions of this tracks always felt a little lifeless, but I still love them all. Watched the 4K restoration in a cinema when it came out and had the best time. In saying all of that, some tracks here bore me to death. The other half is fantastic. 4/5 because one of my fave songs of all time is on this record, but it is far from perfect.

Tea for the Tillerman by Cat Stevens
May 13 2026

Noooooooooo…….. Actually. Total 180. I don’t know what bias I’ve had against Cat, but this was heartfelt and earnest at every turn. Generous 4/5

Time (The Revelator) by Gillian Welch
May 14 2026

Light as a feather. So much space in every song. Not sure how to rate. If this was an Angel Olsen or Sharon Van Etten or Cat Power album (people of a similar era and style) it would be an immediate 7-10/10. Gillian has never captured me the same way. This album was fine, verging on boring. Unlikely to listen to ever again or explore more of her work. 2/5

The Healer by John Lee Hooker
May 15 2026

The guitar hooks can’t be beaten, but I question the amount of collabs. It was fine, but I’ll listen to the more vintage JLH albums.

Queen II by Queen
Jul 22 2026

Not a fan of Queen. This album didn’t change my mind.

Scott 2 by Scott Walker
Jul 23 2026

Every song sounds like a James Bond theme song reject. I love the weirdness. Over the top enunciation. Could be turned into a musical? Of course he covered Jacques Brel.

Want One by Rufus Wainwright
Jul 24 2026

I have so much time and love for Rufus Wainwright. Watched him perform live so many times over the years. My sister got me onto this record when it was released in 2003. His mix of theatrics and folky tunes works. His voice is stunning. The man can do no wrong musically. Every song is a banger. All killer. 5/5

Abbey Road by Beatles
Jul 25 2026

Not a Beatles fan. Never listened to this album in full (some tracks are inescapable). Will attempt to listen without prejudice. Nope. Still not convinced. I have a feeling I’ll be subjected to more Beatles over this project (I’m up to 3?). Don’t know what it is, but these tracks don’t grab me. Unmoved. Kinda bored. 2/5 for the She’s So Heavy part of I Want You.

Oxygène by Jean-Michel Jarre
Jul 26 2026

Weird ambient music that wouldn’t perfectly score a sci fi film. Loved it! Adding to my regular rotation. 5/5

S&M by Metallica
Jul 27 2026

I’ll always have a soft spot for spot for Metallica. I don’t want to know how many times I’ve listened to the Black Album. I still go to their gigs when they tour. Haven’t touched an album since Reload, and that includes S&M. Not sure why - I suppose 17 year old me thought the concept was unnecessary and pompous. I’ll admit this album works. I expected 44 year old me to agree that the record was unnecessary and pompous, but the strings do enough to elevate the material. For Whom The Bell Tolls kicks arse no matter how it’s played. The Load/Reload material is so much better. Devil’s Dance is 10000% improved. We should all be grateful this album was cooked up prior to St Anger. The only good thing that came out of that album was the Some Kind of Monster doco. I hence forth apologise to Metallica for sleeping on this album. Not perfect, most live albums lose something in recording, but a good time. 4/5

Pretenders by Pretenders
Jul 28 2026

A genuine case of thinking I would love an album but it falling flat. Chrissy has the right vibe, I love this period of 80s punk music, but this album didn’t excite me. 2.5/5

From Elvis In Memphis by Elvis Presley
Jul 29 2026

Suspicious Minds is one of my go to karaoke tracks. No idea why. My friends kept it in regular rotation when we hit up the karaoke bars around Sydney in the 00s-10s. Good times. What’s not a good time is the rest of this album. 2/5

Rock Bottom by Robert Wyatt
Jul 30 2026

Assault on my ears. Poorly mixed. Caterwauling vocals. Rock Bottom indeed. Started to get into it on track 3. I’m a sucker for reversing sounds. Loved the keyboard on track 4. Very Radiohead. Great experimental sax on track 5. Fine. I just hated the first two tracks. Strong finish. The rest is genius. 4/5

The Chronic by Dr. Dre
Aug 01 2026

The beats and production are perfection. This album is a classic for a reason - Dr Dre created a movement with his sound. In saying that, I prefer “2001”. The Chronic was just the album to punch the hole for better music to pour through. Better collabs incoming.

Dog Man Star by Suede

Everything I hate about BritPop bands in one album. Overblown and boring. Zero stars.

I didn’t hate this. Still not a fan of the Beatles or any solo work from the Fab Four.

Violent Femmes by Violent Femmes

This album is a good time. Not a huge fan, but I’ve seen these guys live so many times. A solid album. One of a kind act. 3.5/5

Buena Vista Social Club by Buena Vista Social Club
Aug 05 2026

For some reason, I think of this as a “cafe” record. Did Starbucks sell this next to Norah Jones? That’s an unfair comparison. BVSC is much more listenable than Norah. I’m ready for fruity cocktail by the beach. Not my musical preference but I appreciate the musicianship. Always love hearing music from other areas of the globe - this list gets bogged down in English language albums, and I want to be challenged. 3/5

G. Love And Special Sauce by G. Love & Special Sauce
Aug 06 2026

C-grade Beck with a dash of Chris Isaac. $3 bill y’all era Fred Durst. I think I actually like this album. Went in prepared to dislike - this record came out when I was 12, and some of these tracks were played on the alt radio stations. I don’t remember liking G Love back in the day, but I am rescinding that opinion! Saved to my iPod. 4.5/5

The Boatman's Call by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Aug 07 2026

I am a bad Australian and goth music fan - I don’t care for Nick. This album even hit when I was a moody teen and I still don’t get it. Sure he has a few listenable tracks, but none of them exist on this album. The wrong sort of dreary. So bored. Warren Ellis can’t save it. Is there a Dirty Three record on this list? 1/5

Arrival by ABBA
Aug 08 2026

Urge to rewatch Muriel’s Wedding rising! I don’t like ABBA, but their influence is everywhere. Not for me. 2/5

Many thanks to the user that noted Apple Music combined two records and only the first 8 were needed to review this record. You’ve saved me from having to listen to more of this dreck. Beginning to realise that Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound isn’t my vibe.

Rid Of Me by PJ Harvey

Holy hell fuck yes. This album holds a special place in my heart. Raw. Blast at full volume and get messy. 5/5

Live! by Fela Kuti

Vibrant. Couldn’t help myself from humming along. Hit replay again and again. 4/5

KE*A*H** (Psalm 69) by Ministry
Aug 13 2026

This list needed more industrial. Classic of the genre. Easy 5/5 I always preferred A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste, but I’m just glad to see a Ministry album on this list.

Suede by Suede
Aug 14 2026

I *just* had a Suede album last week. I really can’t stand them. How do groups end up with multiple entries when they’re all awful? There are FOUR versions of this album on Apple Music. It’s baffling how our tastes can be this varied. On to the next album! Please, no more Suede. I’ll allow that this record was better than the other one on the list. 1.5/5

Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Aug 15 2026

I just had to slog through The Boatman’s Call. Why am I being tortured with more Nick Cave so soon?!?!?!! One and a half hours! This record is more interesting than The Boatman’s Call, I’ll give it that. Some rollicking guitars and piano. Those choirs! Warren Ellis is a gem - his violin on Spell was my favourite part of this double album. But it’s still a Nick Cave (and the Bad Seeds) record. Any amount of Nick is too much. I handed The Boatman’s Call a 1/5, this one can have a 2/5. It’s really not for me.

Fly Or Die by N.E.R.D
Aug 16 2026

“She wants to move” is a classic. No idea why, but I listened to a lot of Pharrell during a depressive period in my early 20s. His first solo record. In Search Of… even Seeing Sounds. Listening to Fly or Die for the first time in years drives home why this record wasn’t in that rotation. An absolute banger surrounded by middling tunes.
