1001 Albums Summary

So - most songs sound very similar to their big hit, "Come On Eileen" but that's mostly do to the unique vocalization and instrumental makeup of the band. "Old" was different and I liked it.

Amazing that this is just three dudes! They have so much range and can create completely different vibes from song to song. I'd forgotten how much talent they have. Really enjoying this walk down memory lane.

I can see the appeal, cool concept of a party in progress. Would probably like this a little more if I was sippin on gin and juice.

Hard rocking and not very deep... but a good vibe overall. Spent many hours listening to this after it came out and remember getting pumped up by most of the songs. It hits different decades later. Less straight up rock, more posturing and pretentious. I can still sing along but don't feel much for it anymore.

Prince is a genre unto himself... but I thought this album would hold up better than it did for me. Love the first two songs (1999 and Little Red Corvette) but couldn't really get into any others.

Never heard of this guy... really liking the vibe. Feels like a male Sade. Could see vibing to this again.

I bopped along with every song and really enjoyed the simplicity of the lyrics and music. Hit me as a fun time the whole way through.

Liked the club sound - not earth shattering but very consumable.

Every song on this is iconic and defined R.E.M. as a band to pay attention to! This album got me through an entire summer.

Not as compelling as I thought this would be... I think they made a bigger impact with later albums.

Excellent - had only heard two of these songs but they are all really intricate and so well crafted.

A few cool moments, but really not Bowie's best.

Enjoyed the groove but felt a sense of sameness from song to song.

Solid harmonies and guitar work - might actually try to play a few of these someday.

Loved it when I first heard it and still love it today - the sense of play and whimsy, combined with strong melody makes this the best Bowie album in my opinion.

Hadn’t heard of them but liked it. Late eighties, early nineties indie sound with some solid writing. Could have easily played this in college radio at the time.

Solid 90s rock

My wife loves the Smiths, so I have heard all of these songs before, but had never listened to the album as a single experience. It's pretty good. I'm not into them but really liked the variety and innovation it shows.

The weight is clearly the best song, but you can hear aspects of other his in some of the the tunes… but they don’t really stick with you.

Surprised at the complexity and melodic aspects… expected it to be much more of the prog-rock noodling. It’s there, but didn’t really get in the way for me.
