Love Belle and Sebastian's quirky very Scottish take on pop, their lyrics are outstanding poetry. "Words are Mightier than the sword and I could Kill you but with these words I would just make you cry!" lovely stuff.

Classic Eagles, what a good album, love the title track,
This is more west Coast Rock than earlier Eagles Country Rock. (Possibly Joe Walsh's Influence?)
Life in the Fast Lane, was apparently influenced by a conversation between Glen Frey and a Drug Dealer during a highspeed car ride! Liked the more rockier sound when this came out and Hotel California has to be an all time classic single.

Oh Boy Marc and Tony Visconti at their creative heights. Just love this move from Psychedelia to Glam you can hear Bolan moving as you play this he was a fame Junkie and was much loved for sure. Musically the transition from The 60's peace love and understanding to the Anarchic Punk of 75+ can be traced through the Glam of Bolan Bowie et-al. (And of course onward to the New Romantics who where Glam + Thatcherite values!)
The poetry of Cosmic Dancer and the pure pop of Get It On and Jeepster make this a worthwhile listen alone. Love the horns on Girl remind of Billy Braggs arrangement of horns on some of his tracks.

Now This is A challenge for me! I always linked Taylor Swift to Manufactured Pop or Country. So Listening to this Album for the first time! (My Daughter had suggested that there is more to Taylor than meets the eye but I have to be convinced. After Listening to this I am NOT CONVINCED! derivative manufactured pop for the teenage girl I fear! Can't say I've been converted by this. Best song on the Album... so hard to chose but if I had to chose I suppose Champagne Problems sort of breaks the ManPop mould a bit. but as I say not a fan or convert. Okay I suppose reluctantly I might concede that "Shake It Off" is a goodish pop song but still not convinced that this rates as an LP to hear before I Die!

Hmmm, late 80's Pysch Rock/Shoegazer music, whilst seeing some merit in the originality and creativity must admit I prefer Jason Pierces later work with Spiritualized than this rather raw output. "Revolution" & "Suicide" are a little to heavy on the fuzz/psych for my taste and I find the whole album a little self indulgent at times. Top Tracks for me are "Let Me Down Gently" and "Any Way That You Want Me" (which I found Reminiscent of the Beach Boys) which are much more mellow and precursor to the Spiritualized modus operandi I think. Don't get me wrong I do see the credit and influence they have had on music, just a little to heavy for my taste.

Never heard of this band or this album before this posting so a brand new experience! Not a lover of Math Rock, but I quite like Breadcrumb Trail, reminiscent of Dark Side era Pink Floyd in some places. I can see the influence this band had on others, sad to say it isn't something that appeals to me greatly. I find it at times monotonous and repetitive but I suppose that is the point. Tch You Millennials what are you like! I would link this to bands like Fugazi and GSYBE. As I say not something that I would personally add to my collection, but I do see merit in the Album.

Ah Phil and the Girl fans! what a difference from the first iteration, but I think Phil Oakey was always a "Pop Star in Waiting" rather than an Alt-Rock star. Great Band and a good album! Probably one of the best "Art House" band ever, love their early stuff and their later stuff. Tina Weymouth was the thinking Mans Bass player of choice and was the the stuff of teenage fantasy for me. In my opinion "Stop Making Sense" which I think came out a couple of years after this is a) the best Live Music Film of all time and b) Classic tunes for the post punk era. I think my favourite here has got to be Once In A Lifetime!
The Overload is reminiscent of Curtis Era Joy Division/New Order to me so who was influencing whom?

Not usually hot on film scores but this is different, the lyrical Jazz of "Playground Love" starts this off wonderfully.
Interesting to note that it is rumored that Thomas Mars lead singer with Phoenix is lead vocalist "Gordon Tracks" on Playground Love, which makes sense as he later married Sophie Coppola! Some ambient tunes so I wasn't overawed but I found it entertaining. "Suicide Underground" and "Playground Love" the standout tracks for me.

The 90's were my early parenting years so missed a lot of interesting stuff including Rap and R & B, but being on oldish child of the seventies (18 in'77) I would have probably erred toward Britpop rather than American music at this time. But what does Missy bring to the party here, well I like "Hit em wit da hee" with Lil' Kim. The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly) is a good reworking of I can't stand the rain but my favourite track is "Pas de Blunt" who'd of thought those young lads from Birmingham UK would be so influential! An interesting exploration with some super production values from Timbaland

A good listen, like others have said this is typical of the era and the British rock and pop of the time. Influenced by both the Beatles and the Beach Boys, close harmonies lyrical content etc. I also hear the Kinks and Small Faces in this Album. See Itchycoo Park/Beechwood Park link. Love "This Will Be Our Year" and of course "Time Of The Season". "The Butchers Tale" is a great anti war song too. Recorded at Abbey Road allegedly with John Lennon's Mellotron that was used on "Sgt Peppers" which was recorded before this. love the lyrical bass work on Care Of Cell 44. A fine piece of 60's pop/rock ephemera.

90's Big Beat what's not to like about this Album, the mixture of humour and serious point making continues to make this relevant 23 years later. But the reality is you can't separate the music from the videos really. "Rockafella Skank" and "Praise You" are stand outs for me. Just love his inventiveness and his cheeky British lad like humour. Classic Pistols, The Filth and The Fury (Headline from the Sun the day after their Today with Bill Grundy Interview) Malcom Mclaren was a master manipulator of the media. A terrific example of British Punk, Not the first British Punk Album (That was the Damned on Stiff Records) but seminal for sure. Johnny and his sneering lyrics, the sheer energy of the music was such a relief for this 18 Year Old in '77. Pistols, Clash and Damned, what a good time the mid 70's were for British punk, link that with New Wave and Pub Rock and you had the perfect alternative to Prog Rock Navel Gazing. Holiday In the Sun & Bodies were both favourites and of course Anarchy, GSTQ, Holidays In The Sun, Pretty Vacant all top Punk Singles. A must have in any Vinyl Collection. It is in mine!

Not heard this before and to be honest I find it a little dull and repetitive. Reminds me a bit of Keane and that general "Millennial Malaise" type of Indy Rock. It is OK but not a favourite of this listener. Best Track for me is probably the Robert Fripp co-written "M62 Song" which at least has some nice lyrical guitar work. Nice piece of 90's power-pop, reminiscent of the 60's and the Monkees (who in turn of course were a parody of the Beatles) Scouse Powerpop didn't change much from Moptoppery and Merseybeatism to this late millenium version, but you do have to admire the craft of "There She Goes" as a piece of pure pop. But this is different, had never noticed the link between Cave and another hero of mine Leonard Cohen, but the connections are undeniable on this album. Beautiful songs throughout. Really Liked "Galleon Ship" and "Hollywood" as standout tracks. Amazing that this isn't all about the death of Nick's son Arthur. Oh Dear, another Dance Album! I missed the whole Ibizian experience as we were heavily parenting at the time. I am sorry but I suppose "you had to be there" to experience the real feeling of this music. Acid House obviously has it's merits and Musically this album is at the top end for me but..... just don't "get" the love of the repetitive beats etc. But I suppose you had to be there and popping some "e's" "Pacific 202" The stand out track but not a record in my collection I'm afraid.

First time of listening to this artist, never crossed my musical path before. Apparently an influential album to the hippy elite in the late 60's. A musical story of a Shepherd's day in Kashmir. Nice relaxing album with, musically, a fusion approach. I like it but not to the extent of buying it.

I have this original vinyl in my collection, but first heard the band on the "Live At The Roxy" album where they did "Oh Bondage! Up Yours" a classic of the oeuvre! So....was Donavon (Britains answer to Dylan) influential on the Beatles? The use of Sitar on this album preceded Sgt Pepper and the eclectic psychedelia of this album is seen as the first real "Psychadelic" album. Something Else By The Kinks
The Kinks
Interesting that this album was not as successful as some of the "Greatest Hits" albums released at the same time, this is the kinks changing their style from pop puppets to the brilliant masters of influential sardonically English pop/rock. Highlights include the great "David Watts" later recorded by Paul Weller and The Jam. The fraternal bickering that has unfortunately dogged the band through the years is writ large by the fact that, another highlight, "Death Of A Clown" so clearly written by David is credited as David/Ray because Ray added the La-Las into the refrain! Love this as a piece of musical history and also an important part of the Kinks journey to the "Village Greenary" that is as quintessentially English as Music Hall, Ian Drury and Only Fools and Horses! Great choice and of course has the classic "Waterloo Sunset" to boot! Rightfully on this list.

1st time of listening. Love Willie Nelson, his lyrical aptitude as a writer is clear from his back catalogue but what I like about this is that he has developed, through others songs, a wonderful, simple narrative about the red headed stranger. Love the title track and "Denver" and of course the recurring "Time Of The Preacher" "O'er The Waves" (Which to me is reminiscent of The Harry Lime Theme) and the honky-tonk Piano (Played, I believe by Willie's sister Bobbie) of down yonder. Stan Getz
Ahh the sweet sound of 60's South American influenced Jazz. Takes you back to Sean Connery as Bond, the Girl from Ipanema etc... A simpler time maybe?
My first time of listening to this album but the tunes see so familiar. "Desafinado" has been used on so many soundtracks I think.
I like the cockiness of "O Pato" this music has a confidence is of the the era, the post war blues had gone and their was a new optimism of better things to come. The silky smoothness of "Samba Triste" is also of the era.
It is such a shame that drummer Buddy Deppenschmidt and bassist Keter Betts don't get the same billing as Stan & Charlie for this is definitely an ensemble piece and without these two it would not have had the same impact or influence I think. Justifiably on this list I did enjoy it.

Late Noughties Psychedelia/Pop not really my thing and my first time of listening. I always find Psychedelia to be a little bit Navel Gazing and much more about the bands and their concepts rather than the audience. (Never got how some bands play to each other rather than out to the Audience) not to my taste, even though they are obviously good musicians I found this hard to listen to... I suppose a bit like how I found it hard to listen to YES in the '70's. If I had to choose a favourite I suppose "My Girls" and "Summertime Clothes" have some credit. But let's be honest I am never gonna love this being a child in the 60's and a Teenager during the '70's Punk was my thing and anything longer than 2.5-3 mins in terms of song length was definitely old hippy stuff! I could say there isn't a bad one on this but my particular favourites are

Classics like "Sunshine of Your Love" and "Strange Brew" and the Jack Bruce Composed "Take It Back" with some lovely R & B Mouth Organ from Jack are all classics. Stevie at his height I think three of the albums from the early/mid 70's "Talking Book" "Innervisions" and "Songs In The Key Of Life" are Stevie's best and most creative work. you can hear his musical progression through these and I think "Songs" is his Opus Magnum. But This is a close second with Talking Book. The most revelatory thing is that the genius played most of the instruments on most of the tracks. "He's Mistra Know It All" "Living For The City" "Too High" all favourites but to be fair there isn't a bad song on this album. Already in my collection and justifiably on this list.

Shake Your Money Maker
The Black Crowes
Hmmm, first time of listening, I like some of what I heard but this is standard 70's mainstream Rock/Blues but 20 years later. Reminiscent of Aerosmith/Stones/Faces I think. some good tunes but not earth shattering really. I can see the merit and I liked "Jealous Again" the classic cover of Otis's "Hard to Handle" and the "Hurt"-like "She Talks To Angels" (In fact the connection between the Crowes and Nine Inch Nails has just occurred to me) As I say some good tunes but standard Rock 'n' Roll to me and yearning for the 70's in the 90's I think. Not in my collection but I see the reason it is on this list!

Before And After Science
Brian Eno
Post Roxy Eno here and quite interesting mix of electronic and rock music. I loved Roxy and his creative influence was obvious throughout their early years. Whilst not an Eno aficionado I can appreciate his place in rock history. Didn't dislike this album and reminiscent of other electronic rock of the era, (Bill Nelson's Red Noise/Hawkwind/Kraftwerk etc) I particularly liked "Backwater" "Kings Lead Hat" (Nods to Mr Byrne et al) and "Spider and I" (Which I think could have been from Bowies Low album in sound)
A positive album and can see, influence wise, why it is on the list but I don't have it in my collection.

Morrissey
Post Smith's first outing for Mr Morrisey, Steven, the quintessential English, working class rock star, starts life without his Anchorman Johnny Marr, with a good attempt at a smiths light album. I do like it but it lacks the musical power of the Smiths studio albums.
I liked "Little Man What Now" "Everyday Is Like Sunday" and "Suedehead"
I am so disappointed at his support to the extreme right wing views he has professed in the past and although I understand that unless I sat and spoke to him I can not profess to understand what he believes I feel his statements have undoubtedly damaged his and the Smiths legacy.

Songs Of Leonard Cohen
Leonard Cohen
Classic Album, Classic singer/songwriter/poet, one of my favourite artists of all time. This isn't my favourite Cohen album but has classic songs "Suzanne" "Sisters Of Mercy" and "So Long Marianne" all became staples for his live shows but also for every busker on London Streets from 1968 onwards!
I am so happy I luckily got to see him live on one of his last tours of the UK (Which he had to do after being ripped of by his ex manager) He was amazing and had a brilliant band including a flamenco guitarist (Javier Mas) it was one of those nights where music just flows over you. He was and remains one of my musical heroes, maybe because he was primarily a poet, like Dylan and music was the vehicle for his poetry. Oh My Favourite Cohen Album: The Phil Spector Produced "Death of a Ladies Man"

Birth Of The Cool
Miles Davis
First time of listening and a little embarrassment for not having listened to it before. So Miles went from Be-Bop to Cool Jazz in this one recording, it is amazing how smooth the nonet are across all the tracks, like they have been playing together forever. Loved "Moon Dreams" "Deception" "Godchild" and "Boplicity". It is amazing how modern and relevant these tunes sound today. It just goes to show how ahead of their times Miles and Gerry Mulligan et al were in the late 40's Early 50's. Yup this is one that is justifiably on the list I think. Cool Cats indeed!

James Brown Live At The Apollo
James Brown
First time of listening to this album, I was much more aware of his late 60's/70's output, but it is amazing that in 1962, when the Beatles were just starting their Mop-Toppery that James had an audience screaming at the Apollo and was already known as the most hardworking man in showbusiness. A great live album that highlights the skill and artistry of both the band & the Famous Flames and the sheer soul of JB's musical ability as both an artist and an arranger. My favourites on the album are "Lost Someone" a great expression of lost love (or is it lust!), "Think" and the "Please, Please, Please" Medley. A good pick for this list I think.

Alice In Chains
First time I have listened closely to AIC, haven't heard this album before and somewhat surprised. The mix of Heavy metal/Grunge was not as disturbing as I thought it would be probably because of the quality of the vocal harmonies of Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell that , at times, to my ears had a Steely Dan type quality to them.
Some good songs on this album, my favourites are "Rain When I Die" "Junkhead", "Angry Chair" and "Would" which to me is reminiscent of Nirvana at their height.
Not a great Heavy Metal/Grunge enthusiast but I can see the positives in this Album

Lana Del Rey
I have got into Lana Del Ray recently, she borders on ethereal and some may see her style here as repetitive, but I would argue that the words are the thing here. A searing indictment of the hypocrisy of Americana that I think is in line with David Lynch's world view. Love "Not All Who Wander Are Lost" "Yosemite" The Joni Mitchell Cover "For Free" some interesting other songs here. Glad we are update to this year, as this tome must change regularly! (Does this mean we are now on more than 1001 Albums? I am early in on 157 at the moment! Absolutely love this game!

oh another classic soul album here, The Rev. Green doing what he did best and laying down the most seduce-able music possible, that smooth, smooth voice and the great backing band are superb. I absolutely love the Brother Gibbs "How can you mend a broken heart" with Al's timing on this as near to perfect as anything in the soul/r & b oeuvre. Of course another classic in the title track which is a standard now of course. Love Al and love this Album.

first time of listening to this one, some good tunes here. I think this is one of Siouxsies most lyrical of offerings. John Megeoch's Guitar sound was obviously influential to Johnny Marr as it is reminiscent of early smiths stuff on this earlier album. Love "Spellbound" and "Arabian Knights". a good LP not sure if it would be in my list though.

Well, this is mock rock at iut's worst I think, a pastiche of the New York Dolls, with sub Sex Pistols and Adam and the Ants. I get a Mott the Hoople without the talent or irony vibe. (Not surprising as it was produced by Dale Griffin & Overend Watts) I can get what they were trying to do but for me it is a mediocre punk/glam offering. If I had to choose a favourite Track it would be the title track. Not one for me I am afraid.

The Byrds
First time of listening to this one, aware of "So You Want To Be A Rock & Roll Star". I can see why this was called the American "Revolver" as you can hear the Beatles influences throughout. A great album I think and gives warning about the powerhouse the Byrd's became both collectively and Individually in American rock music. You can hear the birth of the CSN&Y harmonies on "Why"
Loved the aforementioned "Rock & Roll Star" "Everybody's Been Burned" "Thoughts and Words" and the Byrd's usual, a Dylan cover "My Back Pages"

You Want It Darker
Leonard Cohen
As I have said before Leonard is one of my musical heroes. I love his poetry and his sardonic, wry lyrics. His use of top notch musicians to back him is also a credit. This is obviously a sad sad album being his last studio album before he died (There is a posthumous album completed by his son Adam "Thanks For The Dance") Love "You Want It Darker" "Treaty" (I wish there was a treaty between your love and mine!) "Leaving The Table" (Shadows of Roy Orbison on the guitar here) "Traveling Light"
These are all songs of love, life and coming death, beautiful in their simplicity and more powerful when you realise that the man was suffering in great pain from his ailments and the vocals were recorded at his home whilst his collaborators were working in studios elsewhere. (lockdown before lockdown eh!)
Farewell Leonard my musical friend for the last 40 years! Rightfully on the list I believe.

Randomly had 2 Leonard records in a row! What are the chances of that! This one from the end period of his first career, (Before his manager nicked all his money!) This is a bit like Leonards "Highway 61 Revisited" His (over)use of synths on this was a shock to some. A great album with some classic Cohen Tracks "First We Take Manhattan" "Everybody Knows" "I'm Your Man" and the wry, humourous "Tower Of Song" (I was born with the Gift Of A Golden Voice!)

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Neil and Crazy Horse at their early height here, The classic "Cinnamon Girl" and the title track which are still on Neil's Live set list are great songs and were an auger of things to come from the maestro of Country Rock and such an influence on Grunge 30 years later. Danny Whitten, (Pre the experiences that invoked another Neil Young Classic, "The Needle And "The Damage Done") on guitar and some great harmonies shows off his brilliance in these roles.
"Down By The River" is another great track and a classic in the genre, again Crazy Horse were the right people at the right time for Neil 1969 and still are today even though their have been many iterations he always gets the right people to play/sing with him.
The final track, "Cowgirl In The Sand" another classic Neil Young standard, again highlighting his influence on both (Believe or not) on Punk and Grunge music. A great Album rightfully on this list. I love it!

My All Time Favourite Clash Album. Uncle Joe and the Boys doing some great work, moving on from the pure punk power of The First album. Everything about this album is great from the Faux Elvis cover to the mixture of Punk/Reggae/Ska that oozes through the 4 sides.
You realise how musically good this band was and what untapped genius was still in there when they split.
Favourites here are "Jimmy Jazz" "London Calling" "Rudie Can't Fail" and "Spanish Bombs"
But as I say not a bad track throughout so this is in my top 10 Albums of all time and a jealously coveted (by my Son) part of my record collection. He'll get it... eventually!

Sepultura
Brazillian Thrash Metal, Not my Genre I am afraid. don't see the musicality or the creativity here, just seems bland to me. I find the voice repetitive and hard to listen to too. Standard Thrash Metal 101 that I might hear from any Teenage band from the 90's. Can't pick a favourite as this would be disingenuous and I feel betray the whole point of this exercise.
The only thing of any credit for me is "Orgasmatron" a cover of Lemmy and Motorhead so that shows how bad this album is!
Sorry Metal fans but this is on the far end of the tolerable spectrum for me.

Strange one this as it is tagged as industrial music I was expecting more of an "Einstürzende Neubauten" feel, but this is something different. Heavy reliance on sampling/tape loops I can see credit in it's ingenuity and creativity, but..... I realise I am not an aficionado of Swiss Post Punk Industrial music. "Criers Les Cheins" "Charlotte" "Envoye'" (Live Zurich21/12/89) are the most appealing tracks I think but not one on my list of greatest albums I am afraid. Brothers In Arms
Dire Straits
Oh Mark Knopfler, what a guitar hero he is and do you know who one of his guitar heroes is.... Hank B Marvin of the Shadows! Amazing the influences that have made some of the best pop-rock of all time.
I first heard of Dire Straits when the NME reported of one of their early gigs in Deptford at a pub that was late 70's early 80's (Sultans of Swing era) next thing I am watching them on this Albums tour at Wembley Empire Pool and who did Mark bring on as special guest with them for a couple of songs.... none other than Hank B Marvin!
A great pop/rock album, they were masters of MOR rock and this is a prerequisite for any pop/rock collection. Love "Money For Nothing" (with Sting on backing vocals) "So Far Away" "Walk Of Life" (Listen to Hank and the Shadows influence here) "Your Latest Trick" and the title track "Brothers in arms" all pop/rock magic. Love the album, in my personal collection already. Rightfully on the list as far as I am concerned.

Isaac and the Bar-Kays 60's Black Awareness soul here, with some excellent musicianship and Jazz like interpretations of classic pop songs Bacarach & Davids' "Walk On By" which is, I believe a definitive cover, and Jimmy Webbs' classic "By The Time I Get To Phoenix". The musicianship throughout this LP is outstanding with orchestrations, by Johnny Allen which are worthy of the best arrangers.
You can here how influential this album was on soul music throughout the 70's and into later decades.

great influential album which I personally love and it is rightfully here.

Billy visiting Americana and his hero Woody Guthrie with his mates Wilco here. I love Billy, the "Bard of Barking" as he really knows how to write love songs for blokes and political songs for everyone. What can I say, he has been on my musical journey with me for the last 30 years. Get to see him when I can because he is both jolly decent chap and a political hero. This isn't his best album but can see why it is on the list. I would prefer to see earlier works like "Don't Try This At Home" or "Talking to The Taxman About Poetry" on the list.
Favourite tracks "Walt Whitmans Neice" "Way Over Yonder In The Minor Key" and "Ingrid Bergman".

John Coltrane
Coltranes' masterpiece here, superb Modern Jazz that has completely stood the test of time with the first track "Acknowledgement" being so recognisable through the many times it has be nodded to by other artist since it's release in 1964.
Some great riffs by 'trane himself on Sax but also some wonderful meandering piano pieces from Mcoy Tyner who seems to just let the muse flow through his fingers. Both this ably backed by some great drumming and driving bass playing by Elvin Jones & Jimmy Garrison respectively. sometimes when a group of musicians paly together the magic just happens and I think it did when these four came together in 1964!

Bob Dylan
First time listen although I have many Dylan albums I haven't heard this one before. Some interesting tunes on this late 90's outing, not least, of course "Make You Feel My Love" (which is far more creepy when sung by a man than it is when sung by Adelle for example) I like the arrangements which are stripped back and, I feel, reminiscent of earlier Dylan fare.

Beatles at their Mop-top height here! Some great tunes on it from the Beatlemania era and pre |John's "Bigger Than Jesus" Gaffe. can really see their progression as songwriters, as usual George just gets a look-in songwriting wise. "All My loving" "Till There Was You" Covers "Please Mr Postman" & "Roll over Beethoven" highlights for me. Of course in the top 1001 albums of all time!

Fairport Convention
The first outing for the wonderful Sandy Denny with Fairport. A great debut for her too. I loved the french interpretation of Dylans "If You Gotta To Go Now" "Si Tu Dois Partir" which is both a great version and also incredibly inventive and ironically gave the Fairports their only UK charting single to date. Great album that moved the band forward.

The Rise & Fall
Madness
Just love Suggs and the Nutty Boys, their cheeky cockney music hall inspired Ska is just typically English,(Small Faces/Kinks/Blurlike) not taking themselves too seriously whilst producing some great music. Not sure this would be my choice of a Madness album for this list (I prefer their debut for it's rawness) but some great tunes on here. "Tomorrows (Just Another Day)" "Our House"
"Blue Skinned Beast" and "Primrose Hill" my favourites on this one.

Miriam Makeba
Great debut from Miriam Makeba, an interesting mix of both African and European music. She had a lovely voice with different styles interpreted on this album. I Liked "The Click Song" "Mbube" and of course the humorous "One More Dance" later adapted by Ester and Abi Ofarim for a number one hit in the UK.
Really enjoyed this early, intrepid trip into African music. Rightly on the list.

Prog Rock eh! Now when my more "Intellectual" mates were raving about this and other prog product, I tried but never really understood it. I was into the Jackie Lynton Band, Dr Feelgood and Kilburn & The High Roads at the time.

Deloused in the Comatorium
The Mars Volta
First time of listening, sounds like early 21st Century Faux 70's Prog Rock to me. Intellectual navel gazing, with their backs to the audience. Or am I just a biased old punk! Cedric Bixler-Zavala sounds like Jon Anderson in his Yes heyday. Clearly very good musicians, just wished they had chosen a different style. I can of course see the quality here just don't particularly like the music. Never really liked "Concept" Albums as they are usually more important to those writing/playing them than to those listening (Exceptions to the rule here both Tommy & Quadrophenia by The Who).
Hard to pick a favourite track on this one but I suppose "Take The Veil Cerpin Taxt" is the most listenable although as always with Prog Rock it's length (8 mins 42 Secs) means it overstays it's welcome! Not on my list I am afraid.

Vol. 4
Black Sabbath
The Sabbath at their most drug fueled best, their coherent approach to heavy blues is quite wonderful. I love "Supernaut" "Wheels Of Confusion" "Snow Blind" "Cornucopia" and the much gentler "Changes". Ozzy at his best vocally and Tony Iommi is at his height guitar wise. The Rhythm section holds it altogether via Geezer and Bill Ward which is amazing considering the overindulgence in chemicals that they all allegedly were involved with at the time. Proper "Spinal Tap " stuff in real life. (A Gold Painted Bill Ward could come straight from the Spinal Tap Script on how they lost a drummer!)
Good to see this on the list.

Beatles
Moptoppery again, some great tunes on this first soundtrack from Richard Lesters film which helped to define the Fab Fours public personalities. See Peter Jackson's "Get Back" TV series to get a sense of the "Real" Beatles.
Highlights on this album the Title track that takes me back to my childhood, "And I Love Her" (The first bass line I ever learnt. "The Things We Said Today" (A Classic), finally "You Can't Do That" a tour de force of early Beatles songwriting.
A great power pop album, that was influential on both sides of the Atlantic. (There would have been no Monkees without Dick Lesters' Beatles films!) Rightly on the list in my opinion.

The wonderful Ms Simone. First became aware of her in the early 80's when a girlfriend introduced me to "My Baby Just Cares For Me" before it was a hit due to the Chanel No 5 advert! Her voice is visceral and speaks loudly of her struggles and battles with her mental health.

Favourites Include the Above Title Track, "Travelling Man" "If I Lose My Mind" and "She Never Met A Man (She Didn't Like)"
A really good example of country music as "White Peoples Blues" some heart rending lyrics and a search for the strength of her roots in working class poverty and the fate of white working class women through "Torch Songs" is epitomised throughout this album.

Ah Chrissie Hynde, alongside Debbie Harry, every 70's straight teenage boys fantasy! (Gail Advert was my personal fantasy!) What can you say about the Pretenders, Chrissie was a Music Journalist turned Superstar (Gamekeeper turned Poacher really) and this was a great debut album.
Shame that the band was destined for tragedy with both James Honeyman-Smith and Pete Farndon died too early.
My Favourites on this are "Stop Your Sobbing", "Kid" "Private Life" and "Brass In Pocket".

Oh Dear.....Thrash metal, not a genre I like or are comfortable with. Can see very little in this album of credit in my opinion from the initial track "Angel Of Death" No matter how you explain it, it is about Dr Josef Mengele which as far as I am concerned is a no go area for items of entertainment, without proper condemnation, which I don't get from the song.
