Lynyrd Skynyrd
4/5
This is one of those albums that absolutely blows my mind to find out it was the bands first album. Nearly prefect with some of the bands biggest hits. And then to end it with Free Bird may be one of the biggest mic drops in musical history. Really enjoyed this one!

Kendrick Lamar
2/5
Better than most hiphop today but not really my cup of tea
The Cure
2/5
Spacey. Moody. Alright.
The Zombies
3/5
Classic 60’s psychedelic vibes. Some did it better but still good.
Gorillaz
3/5
Funky album. Good stuff
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
Good blues & rock n roll infusion. Wife liked it too
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
Lures you in with the folksy Simon and Garfunkel sounds that have become a stereotype before hitting you over the head with the electric Bob Dylan-esque A Simple Desultory Philippic crammed with pop culture references of the day. Holy shit what a depressing note to end the album on. Fantastic album
Manic Street Preachers
1/5
Who the fuck is Kevin Carter? All the songs sound the same to me. Not really a fan.
Soundgarden
3/5
I see why people like it but it’s not what I’m usually going to be reaching for.
The Clash
3/5
Like if a british punk band decided to be a reggae band instead. Somehow it works
Yes
4/5
Who would’ve thought the clap could be so enjoyable. Album is a banger!
The Byrds
3/5
That sure was a Byrds album.
Ice T
2/5
Never really listened to Ice T but it was alright. Not my favorite rapper.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
3/5
It’s a pretty good album by a pretty good Elvis
Stevie Wonder
2/5
The good songs are really good. Some went on longer than I felt they needed to.
LCD Soundsystem
2/5
Lots of musical influences evident on this album. The second half of the album was song after song of “oh I know this song”.
Serge Gainsbourg
1/5
Music was pretty funky. Lyrics were all gibberish to me being in French. Not a fan of the spoken word style. Story is pretty gross.
James Brown
2/5
This album hits pretty good if you know what I’m saying. It sure does pack a big punch for such a little package if you’re picking up what I’m dropping down. It’s like a lead pipe to the head if you feel me.
Tim Buckley
3/5
It’s like a less moody Jim Morrison singing in a smoky whisky bar.
Doves
2/5
Sounds like blur or oasis but not as good as either of those
Beck
2/5
Sounds like blur or oasis but not as good as either of those
Beck
3/5
Funky and wacky sounds. Prefer it over the previous Beck album yesterday (Sea Change).
Steve Earle
2/5
Decent country album. Steve has a good voice
Mudhoney
2/5
It ain’t no Nirvana but it’s alright.
Supertramp
3/5
Opens on a high note with school and goes right into the banger bloody well right. Continues to jam on throughout. Dreamer is a jam and ends with the awesome crime of the century
Echo And The Bunnymen
2/5
60’s psychedelic meets 80’s synthwave. Not bad
The Smashing Pumpkins
4/5
Strap the fuck in, it’s a long one. Practically the Smashing Pumpkins greatest hits, but also consistently good throughout.
Rush
4/5
Great album. Tom Sawyer, yyz, and limelight are all fantastic as well as the spooky witch hunt and closer vital signs.
Grateful Dead
2/5
A much better band live when they are grooving with the audience. Not horrible but nothing special
Nick Drake
2/5
Have often heard about this album and Nick Drake. Glad I finally listened to it but probably won’t be a frequent relisten
The Cars
4/5
Practically a perfect album. Hit after hit. And it was their first album!
Nick Drake
3/5
Like a folk singer with a bards lute. Sick bass on man in the shed. Actually probably prefer this album over Pink Moon.
Devendra Banhart
2/5
It’s like I should be smoking a joint out in a garden with Devendra playing
The Birthday Party
1/5
Was this on this list by mistake. My god that was awful. About turned it off after the 500th “pow” on Hamlet and after hearing the rest of the album it would have been a good choice.
The Temptations
2/5
Not terrible but nothing really jumps out at me. It’s like a funky barber shop quartet trying to do psychedelic music but doesn’t come off as cool as that description sounds.
Prince
3/5
Prince’s usual funky self. Can’t go wrong with Prince but it’s no Purple Rain or 1999.
Silver Jews
2/5
Alright but lyric heavy, feels like reviewing after one listen is inadequate but what do you do. An alternative band doing a country album, not as good as a country band doing country music but probably better than a country band doing an alternative album.
Kraftwerk
4/5
The album had me feeling like I too was a robot in a cyberpunk dystopian environment. Seems like an album with a lot of utility. I mean I feel like I could jam to it while doing chores, while gaming, studying, or just put on some headphones and let my imagination run wild. I dig it.
The Mamas & The Papas
2/5
Your typical 60’s hippy music. Some good stuff on there but nothing mind blowing
Bauhaus
2/5
Fitting music for the Halloween weekend. But there’s better music
Joni Mitchell
2/5
Thought album was ok. Good song writing mixed with some jazzy vibes. The last song is dope (Twisted)
Arctic Monkeys
5/5
A kick ass album. Peak Arctic Monkeys. Brings me back to rolling in the old Bronco.
Fatboy Slim
2/5
Overrated. Great album if you like tripping your balls off at a rave while hearing the same samples be repeated nonstop for 7 minutes until the next song comes on and the cycle repeats.
Nirvana
5/5
Probably my favorite nirvana album beside unplugged. So many great songs on here.
Laibach
1/5
An interesting concept for a band for sure; industrial metal parodying fascist dictatorships (god I hope it’s a parody and I didn’t just give fascists views/listens/clicks). Unfortunately between the singer’s Arnold Schwarzenegger sounding voice and music that sounds like it would fit into an 80’s movie training montage it’s hard to take it too seriously. Also, as a non German speaker, if you make very militaristic sounding music and sing in German while wearing nazi uniforms I can’t tell if you’re making fun of them/making a statement or are legit just a bunch of nazi and I almost have to err on the side of caution. Sorry not for me
Bob Dylan
3/5
Always enjoy Bob Dylan and will never be bummed to listen to him, but this isn’t my favorite album of his.
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
Psychedelic blues, what’s not to love?
The Kinks
2/5
Happy go lucky album. Seems like it would be hard to be upset while listening to this one. Doesn’t mean I want to relisten to it though necessarily.
Duran Duran
2/5
Makes me feel like at an all inclusive resort in Rio in the 80’s.
David Bowie
3/5
David Bowie is the man but this isn’t a greatest hits album. Not the greatest Beatles cover I’ve ever heard but Fame is just so dang funky.
Louis Prima
4/5
When I saw this listed as “vocal jazz” I thought it was going to be a slog, but what a fun album. Its got the original version (I think) of Hanni El Khatib’s “you rascal you”, some other songs that I either know or know from covers, and the great opener just a gigolo (gigolo, gigolo). That’s not even mentioning the greatest song ever, banana split for my baby. Also thought I recognized his voice and thought maybe I was just getting confused with another famous Louis that makes similar music, but nope, this mofo voiced king Louis from jungle book. Respect.
Meat Loaf
4/5
Always felt like meatloaf should have been bigger. This album is a good reason why I feel that way.
4/5
Ziggy is cool as hell. The songs are spacey, weird and good as hell.
Willie Nelson
3/5
Good country western album. The last song makes me feel like I’m in an old western saloon.
The Sugarcubes
2/5
There’s times I think I get the hype around Bjork, like she has a good voice, but then other times I just accept I don’t get it. Either way she’s not for me and I like her even less with this band than her solo stuff
Bob Dylan
4/5
Great Bob Dylan album. Has some of my favorites of his, as well as fun songs I’ve never heard before (the final 2 tracks in particular).
Country Joe & The Fish
3/5
Haven’t ever really listened to these guys other than a couple of songs from their Woodstock set. Pretty good stuff. Really dig the dark and moody Bass Strings.
Billy Bragg
3/5
Very middle of the road album for me which surprised me since I like everyone involved and thought I’d really like it. Didn’t bore me but didn’t floor me.
Super Furry Animals
2/5
This album didn’t do much for me. Not the worst I’ve heard but it was basically just background noise.
Stevie Wonder
2/5
Boring with superstitious wannabe song (You Haven’t Done Nothin’). I have come to the conclusion I’m just not a Stevie wonder fan
ZZ Top
3/5
Classic ZZ Top. Knew about half the songs, the other half is basically more of the same. But they’re good at what they do so more of the same isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Miles Davis
2/5
Good for background noise when trying to concentrate but not what I would call an album I must hear.
Nina Simone
2/5
There’s some good stuff but not really my jam
The Avalanches
2/5
Enjoy as background music but isn’t the greatest album I’ve ever heard.
Public Enemy
1/5
Have never understood the hype of public enemy. Did not enjoy.
Radiohead
2/5
The album is alright. Nothing mind blowing but I’m not a huge Radiohead fan so 🤷♂️
Bruce Springsteen
2/5
Not a bad album but a slow rocker for sure.
Girls Against Boys
2/5
Wife said it sounds like wannabe Nirvana. Sounds more like the eels to me. Not as good as either in my opinion.
Rufus Wainwright
3/5
Typical dreamy sounding Rufus Wainwright
Bob Marley & The Wailers
3/5
My first listen to Bob Marley outside the Legend album. Good stuff.
Living Colour
3/5
A very 80’s rock album but the song lyrics still feel modern.
Japan
2/5
New wave synth pop but like depressing.
The La's
2/5
Sounds like a 90’s band playing 60’s music.
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
Great jimi album
The Notorious B.I.G.
3/5
Kind of a big deal in the rap community. Essential rap listening
Brian Eno
2/5
A very strange album of instrumentals, samples, loops. I wasn’t crazy about it but more listens might change that.
Elbow
3/5
Pretty chill album. Some songs sound like oasis others have a Dave matthews sound.
Dusty Springfield
3/5
Soulful album. Perfect for cooking to
Nick Drake
3/5
Nice easy listening album
Elvis Costello
3/5
Like 50’s rockabilly meets early punk music.
Adele
1/5
Overhyped mom music. Not my scene
Derek & The Dominos
3/5
Good blues album with a decent Jimi cover
ABBA
2/5
Not a fan of abba and this didn’t even have any of the “good” abba songs on it.
Steely Dan
4/5
This is a fun album with the typical music I expect from Steely Dan and the song straight from the 1920’s (east St. Louis toodle-oo). This album was funky in all the right ways
Shack
3/5
A very 90’s alt rock album. Sometimes sounds a little REM-ish
New York Dolls
2/5
Not really a fan of a lot of 70’s punk. Repetitive noise with a decent song every once in a while.
Slade
3/5
This album confused me because it sounds like 80’s hair metal but came out in like 1972. Guess that’s why it made the list, for being so ahead of the times. Then it goes into ballads and a weird band member introduction over another bands song at the end of the album. WTF was that about? That said I didn’t hate it!
Also is this one of the bands that inspired Lovefist of the GTA universe? Sure seemed like it. I’ll have to look into that.
The Who
3/5
Pretty good album but not the best rock opera I’ve ever heard.
Led Zeppelin
5/5
Banger and banger. About as close as you can get to perfect album. Every song is amazing.
XTC
2/5
It’s an interesting album to be sure. Never really listened to XTC so didn’t know what to expect other than assuming it was going to sound like music from the 80’s. It was decent
Bob Dylan
4/5
This is a great album. Some classic Dylan on here.
Björk
2/5
This album seemed like a great fit for the days leading up to Christmas. Felt like songs to get me in the mood for Xmas without being Xmas songs. That said, I still am not a fan of Bjork.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
4/5
This is a great album! Perfect blend of rock, folk, and punk. “Hey hey my my, rock and roll will never die” may be one of the coolest lyrics in rock music and one of the few times I’ve gotten chills down my spine when I heard it live (and that was a cover not even the original!)
Dwight Yoakam
2/5
Decent country album. Got a little too religious for me at the end there
Eminem
5/5
Early Eminem is some of my favorite rap so this one is going to be a winner in my book.
Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
2/5
Depressing 80’s music without any of the fun parts of 80’s music
Joni Mitchell
2/5
Not crazy about it. Joni Mitchell just doesn’t really do it for me I’m realizing.
Various Artists
3/5
Don’t like Xmas music but can’t argue that this isn’t a classic.
Björk
1/5
Maybe it’s because I’ve listened to more Bjork this week than my entire life, but god this sucks. Where’s the music.
Charles Mingus
2/5
This was an alright jazz album. I feel like it had a lot of sounds that have become common but it was probably groundbreaking at the time.
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
2/5
The album was alright. Synth poppin to make the 80’s proud.
Joan Armatrading
2/5
Soulful album. It was alright
John Martyn
2/5
Not bad just kind of boring
Tortoise
2/5
A chill album that was nice for ambient music while doing chores. Definitely a time and place album
George Harrison
4/5
For being as big of a Beatles fan as I am, I really have slept on a lot of their solo works, only really exploring the big songs. I knew a couple off this album but this was a new experience by one of my favorites and I really should have checked it out a long time ago. Not as tight as a Beatles album, but still really well written songs with great music. Also really dig all the jams at the end.
The Beau Brummels
3/5
Very typical 60’s album. Light, short, and sweet. Didn’t over stay its welcome. I enjoyed it.
Iron Maiden
4/5
On paper I shouldn’t like Iron Maiden as much as I do. I don’t really like heavy metal, their style isn’t really my style, and at a quick glance I’d think they are just trying too hard. But I really like them! Their songs are just fun and dark at the same time and they’re pretty dang good at what they do. The imagery is also pretty cool. The music makes me want to go workout, and I don’t usually workout. It just gets me so pumped.
Television
2/5
Decent album. Nothing exceptional but it wasn’t terrible by any means
Harry Nilsson
3/5
2nd half of the album is better than the 1st but the whole thing is good.
LCD Soundsystem
2/5
Very repetitive.
Dagmar Krause
2/5
Dusty Springfield
2/5
Realized after a while that I was listening to the deluxe version. Was thinking I like the album but just a little too long. The original version would have been the perfect length and I would have enjoyed that more.
Elton John
3/5
Elton John is always a good listen but not exactly a greatest hits album
The Sonics
2/5
Kind of feels like cheating when the album is a greatest hits of other artists music!
Goldie
1/5
God this was absolutely awful. I always thought I disliked house music but this made me realize I hate it. It wouldn’t be so bad if the songs were a reasonable length but when they are all 6+ minutes and some 10, 12 or 21 minutes it makes me want to rage. Don’t even know why I wasted my time after the second song. I knew what I was getting for the rest of the album and looked and saw the song lengths for the rest. I should have just quit this one. It effectively made me stop doing this Album A Day journey for about 2 weeks because I was dreading continuing this garbage for another hour and a half.
Leonard Cohen
2/5
Even though he’s never been my favorite artist, I certainly get the appeal of Leonard Cohen. This was a decent album.
The Go-Betweens
2/5
There were probably so many heartbroken and just sad in general kids listening to this in the 80’s. Not necessarily my cup of tea but it wasn’t terrible
Portishead
4/5
I love a good triphop album and this album is so good. The music and the vocals work so well together it gives the album an almost ethereal sound. Love it.
Fleet Foxes
3/5
Nice and peaceful. Makes me want to go camping.
Ozomatli
2/5
Nice mix of Latin and hip hop elements.
Nightmares On Wax
2/5
Some decent songs but more often than not just seem like drum loops which don’t justify the length of song that they usually are. I think I would like most of these songs better in playlists but as a whole the album started boring me.
Blur
3/5
Good album. You can hear the future Gorillaz poking their heads up occasionally
Creedence Clearwater Revival
5/5
Another stellar album by CCR. Short sweet and to the point with a bunch of classics on there
The United States Of America
1/5
This album was basically a test to see if they could get the most obnoxious instruments on an album. Gong? Bang that bad boy. Kazoo? Betch your ass. Car horns? Yeah we can probably make that work (don’t know if they were actually car horns but it sounded like traffic at one point and I almost shut it off at that point)
Liz Phair
2/5
Decent 90’s alternative album.
Beatles
5/5
Was going to rate this a 4 because it’s far from my favorite Beatles album, but then I sang along to every song so I feel like that puts it back up to a 5. Lots of good stuff on here
John Lee Hooker
2/5
Alright blues album but kinda slow. Prefer the first half.
Belle & Sebastian
3/5
I like belle and Sebastian but seldom think any albums are amazing front to back. This one was pretty good though
Pearl Jam
3/5
Never been a big Pearl Jam fan but I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Still not crazy about them but thought this was a good album
Os Mutantes
3/5
Well that was a trip that I didn’t hate. You can hear influences of Brit pop, rockabilly, and swing bands all mixed a Latin twist.
On an unrelated note there is a “slurping” noise throughout that sounds exactly like my 2 yr old asking for a drink and it triggered a Pavlovian response from me to constantly reach for my water bottle. Do with that info what you will.
Paul McCartney and Wings
4/5
Try to not sing this album for the next week after listening to it is quite the challenge. Catchy and not even mad at the earworm that burrows into my head after listening to it
Dr. John
3/5
Very unique album. Spacey, spooky, and funky all in one. It was a cool listen
Deep Purple
2/5
A good live albu, but a little too jam bandy for me. Perhaps in the right mood it would have ranked higher for me
The Streets
2/5
This man just whined for an hour and I listened to it all. He has no flow it’s like listening to Christopher walken rapping
Raekwon
2/5
Basically a Wu-Tang album but didn’t enjoy it as much
Moby
1/5
Janelle Monáe
2/5
I like the variety in sounds. There were a few shrilly parts that were unpleasant that drove my dogs nuts
Cypress Hill
2/5
After years of seeing Cypress Hill popping up in movies and tv shows I just can’t take these guys seriously. I also don’t care for the strange high pitched voice.
Bruce Springsteen
2/5
Did someone bet Bruce Springsteen he couldn’t make a country album? This seems like his attempt at a country album. It’s ok. Had some good stuff but not my favorite of his
Lynyrd Skynyrd
4/5
This is one of those albums that absolutely blows my mind to find out it was the bands first album. Nearly prefect with some of the bands biggest hits. And then to end it with Free Bird may be one of the biggest mic drops in musical history. Really enjoyed this one!
Donald Fagen
2/5
Wasn’t as big of a fan of this as most of his work with Steely Dan. Technically the music is still great and you can sense the professionalism in it, but it just seems to be missing that special something that makes Steely Dan songs so great.
Radiohead
3/5
The songs on this album had a haunting sound which I really enjoyed. I liked this one.
Blur
3/5
Decent 90’s alternative album. Some good songs on here.
Abdullah Ibrahim
2/5
Meh. Lower side of 2 stars. Jazz just isn’t my jam.
Morrissey
1/5
Shitty music by a pretentious racist prick. Straight garbage music. Zero stars if that was an option.
4/5
Some say muse is overproduced garbage. I disagree. People probably said the same thing about Pink Floyd back in the day. I like it.
Bill Evans Trio
2/5
This would be good music to play in a hotel lobby or similar situation but just not going to be something I go searching out.
David Holmes
1/5
Like a bad score from a crappy video game circa 2002.
Kings of Leon
3/5
Is this guy speaking another language? No idea but I still dig it.
Tears For Fears
2/5
Slow 80’s ballads. Pretty good still
De La Soul
3/5
Went in expecting to not like it much but was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed all the samples they used.
Pink Floyd
5/5
Love this album. One of the goats.
Germs
1/5
I could see this album influencing the punk genre and paving the way for those that came after. But this could be the most influential album ever, I still did not enjoy it one bit.
Dire Straits
3/5
Slow dad rock. Not a bad thing but just didn’t like it as much as I thought I would.
Buzzcocks
2/5
Better than a lot of early punk music but still pretty repetitive. At least these guys know how to actually play their instruments.
Bee Gees
3/5
Saw Bee Gees and expected a disco album but instead got a weird concept album with sounds similar to the Beatles. Was pretty good.
Little Richard
4/5
Classic American rock n roll.
Missy Elliott
3/5
Good album. Definitely a product of the early 2000’s!
The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
2/5
This album didn’t do much for me. Just didn’t meet my expectations. Think I preferred the jams on the deluxe album over the actual songs from the album.
Thin Lizzy
3/5
Decent enough album. Not the greatest live album I’ve ever heard.
Klaxons
3/5
I didn’t expect much from this but was pleasantly surprised.
The Icarus Line
3/5
Never heard of this band but I enjoyed this album.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
Nick cave is Halloween music without the songs having anything to do with Halloween. His voice and the music are just haunting. It’s pretty good too!
Van Halen
4/5
Not a huge Van Halen fan although I get the appeal. Really did enjoy this though
Ice Cube
3/5
Oh look it’s that nice family movie guy Ice Cube this should be a wholesome albu- oh my! A good 90’s hip hop album - angry and offensive.
Peter Frampton
4/5
Probably one of the best live albums ever recorded.
The Clash
3/5
This was an interesting album. Always enjoy the clash even if they aren’t one of my favorites
Michael Jackson
3/5
Almost had to bump it one more for the big hitters on the album but the rest of the album was just ok for me
Ice Cube
3/5
Another classic 90’s hip hop banger.
Ryan Adams
1/5
Great artists can be pretentious as hell and no one ever cares. This sexual predator is not a great artist. He sucks ass and is among the worst ever. And this album sucks too
Metallica
3/5
This is a pretty good album!
The Roots
2/5
Not my favorite hip hop but it was still decent
Funkadelic
3/5
Good psychedelic funk album. Maggot Brain is an awesome jam. Would probably give it another star if some of the songs were just a bit shorter, seemed to overstay the welcome and get repetitive. Still grooved though.
Prince
4/5
Great album by the purple one
Radiohead
3/5
Radiohead always has me kind of bouncing from “this is boring” to “this is great”, and this was no different.
Ray Charles
2/5
First half is definitely more lively and energetic
3/5
Devo is fun and experimental sounding. More punk sounding than I usually associate with them.
Pixies
2/5
Never understood the hype of the pixies. Seem very pretentious. This album didn’t change my mind
Miles Davis
3/5
A pretty good jazz album.
Beatles
5/5
This is up there with my favorite Beatles albums. Just fantastic.
Aphex Twin
3/5
Like an old video game soundtrack. Not going to be the first thing I choose to listen to but it fits a certain mood nicely.
Garbage
3/5
I have always kind of wrote off Garbage so I wasn’t expecting much from this album, but I may been wrong. Enjoyed this more than I thought I would.
Red Snapper
2/5
Found myself bobbing my head along with the music but I didn’t necessarily enjoy it
A Tribe Called Quest
3/5
This has some classic hip hop songs
Megadeth
3/5
Not bad, but I’m just not a big fan of heavy metal.
Q-Tip
3/5
This was a decent album, nothing crazy.
Keith Jarrett
2/5
Found myself bored pretty early on. Just don’t really want to listen to an hour long solo of any instrument. Bet it would sound great in a waiting room though.
