Mj ColeI like electronic music. I did not like this. Boring, repetitive drum beats. Dull vocals. Basically the same song again and again. Only made it halfway through the first side. Baffling inclusion on this list.

Melancholy. Never heard of this one before. Definitely gotta be in the right mood for it, but much more enjoyable than some of the bland 60s rock on here. Cool voice.
Refreshingly different and a good listen. Very similar to a lot of the post -hardcore I listened to back in the day.
Sounds like it was recorded with a potato. It's a shame because I could detect the strains of decent music beneath the horrible static. I had to skip some songs because it was just...too much. Like listening to feedback.
Some great tracks on here. Love the chilled out vibe and it didn't overstay its welcome.
Not too surprised that the only track I've heard hear is Imagine. Nothing else has jumped out so far. A bit of a rock-a-billy vibe.
The first few tracks take me right back to my early 20s. I loved intro, crystalized and VCR. I think the second half of the album gets a bit dull though, which brings it down to a 3 for me.
Some great tracks in this. Always loved The Scientist and Clocks but hadn't heard much of the rest of the album. Green Eyes I really enjoyed. Think this one is a 4 for me.
I DONT EAT NO HAM N EGGS COZ THEY'RE HIGH IN CHOLESTROL Also shout out to track 9 rhythm and of course can I kick it. The whole album flows so well and the storytelling in some of the tracks, like I Left My Wallet in El Segundo, is great. I found myself really wanting to catch every lyric and mostly was able to do so.
5 stars just for Where Did You Sleep Last Night. Such a great end to the album. Also loved the interaction between the band throughout the album. Also loved The Man Who Sold the World and Something in the Way. Didn't love some of the other tracks and wouldn't describe myself as a big Nirvana fan but this is a great album.
Pretty cool album. Never heard of these guys before. Very listenable and not overly long.
My first 2 star. It just doesn't stand out from the crowd. There was some nice guitar but I was pretty bored and glad when it ended. There's just better rock from this era. Hope this is their only album on the list.
Melancholy. Never heard of this one before. Definitely gotta be in the right mood for it, but much more enjoyable than some of the bland 60s rock on here. Cool voice.
Love a good blues album and this is great. The first track I've definitely heard before and the rest is fun to listen to while in the kitchen. Had me grooving along and didn't go on for too long. Loved it.
Some real bangers on this album. Love the high energy, made for a great morning commute. Some long tracks on this but I really enjoyed it. Favourite tracks are Mindfields and Breathe.
Can't say I really vibed with this. None of the tracks stood out for me and one or two I almost skipped because they just sounded...not good. Not for me.
Honestly not as bad as I thought it would be. I don't know any of Kravitzs' songs except for Fly Away, but I moderately enjoyed this album.
Really solid album. Supersonic and slide away are great tracks.
I enjoyed this one. Listened on a Sunday morning while doing odd jobs around the house and the vibe was perfect. I do love easy listening Scottish rock. I'd probably listen to this again so 4 stars for me.
Amazing album. Such a great sound, I really love this era of music. Dangerous was my favourite track.
Tough one. The mixing is amazing. Fantastic use of sampling makes some tracks really fun to listen to. It's a shame I just don't gel with their style of "shout-rapping" and reminds me why I could never really get into the Beastie Boys. I gave this album two listens and definitely really enjoyed some songs. I was originally going to go 3 stars but I think by the end of the second playthrough I'll go 4.
Pretty intense listening, had to really pay attention to catch the lyrics. I've never been a big punk fan but this album actually had me chuckling at some points on the way home. The lead singers voice reminds me a lot of System of a Down. Loved the short, punchy tracks, most of them were less than two minutes and I think they were the best ones.
Would never have listened to this album without this project. But I actually really enjoyed this. Loved some of the random sampling throughout the tracks, especially considering this is from 1979. Each track was quite different from the other and I didn't get bored, ended up listening to a few tracks twice. Favourite track: Persian Love.
Very enjoyable album to listen to. My first time listening to an ABBA album fully through, so probably good to go one that doesn't have a bunch of hits. Very listenable compared to some albums on this list
Simple, beautiful storytelling. Felt like I was sitting around a campfire being told stories. So nice to be able to understand every word as well. This is what country music should be.
Eh boring to be honest. These British 60s rock bands don't do that much for me. Last track was good.
Went in to this thinking I'd hate it but honestly had a pretty good time with it. Some cool riffs and great songs. Probably a bit long but not something I'd ever listened to before.
Pretty good but overly long. Some great solos in this, I especially liked Still In Love With You. Nothing jumped out enough to go more than three stars though.
Lovely voice. Easy listening country album but not my cup of tea.
Have listened to before. A great album that's fun to listen to.
Reminds me of early high school r and b. Some cool beats in here but nothing stand out that warrants a place on this list tbh.
Love me some Elton John and really enjoyed this album. Obviously starts with one of his best songs, Tiny Dancer, and it's hard to beat that one. Like others have pointed out, Indian Sunset is a pretty cringe song but at least I learned where the samples for Ghetto Gospel came from! Love the theatricality of Elton's music.
A pretty cool album. Probably my longest song so far with "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" which was also probably my favourite of the album. A nice smooth listen for my afternoon commute.
Wow, Van Halen's first album had Eruption. TIL.
Not for me. I don't mind some punk stuff but it's just not that enjoyable to listen to. Good thing it was only 15 minutes.
Unabashedly love the first few Eminem albums. A staple of teenage years. Really enjoyed this re listen although the lyrics are definitely pretty fucked up. They made me laugh though.
A few good tunes in this that I'd heard before but didn't know who they belonged to. Not a huge fan of live albums though.
Not my favourite stuff from the Kinks but I'm a pretty basic fan.
Seems like everyone's giving this either a 1 or a 5. I'll go 4. It's a good listen.
Great energy, I struggled to hear the lyrics but could've been my car speakers. Never heard of these guys. My second early punk album in a week, looks like I'm getting an education in punk rock.
Honestly I was gonna give this a 2 but then I listened to the back half of the album after smoking a joint while on a walk with my dog. That led me down some rabbithole of 90s soul that more for a very enjoyable start to the day.
Pretty, but boring. I got sick of it by the third song. Prefer something with a bit more oomph and this doesn't have it.
Great stuff.
Didn't go into this expecting to enjoy it but I really got into the theatricality of it all. Good fun.
Refreshingly different and a good listen. Very similar to a lot of the post -hardcore I listened to back in the day.
Funky shit.
I didn't mind it but it was very same-same throughout. Perhaps their other album which is on this list I'll enjoy more, as I do often like these kinds of albums.
Some great riffs and I do like the lead's voice. Sure are a lot of English 60s bands on this list though...
Nobody: The Sonics lead singer: WAAAAAH!!!!
Love Smashing Pumpkins. Also love the top reviews hatred for them.
Strange, lovely, different.
Some great riffs and dirty cool guitar. Liked some songs a lot, wasn't a huge fan of the female vocalist.
Wonderful album. First few songs just hit so good. Simple and beautiful. I've listened to this before so just enjoyed listening to it all as one piece.
Had a few of these on repeat in playlists over the years: Sun It Rises, Blue Ridge Mountains. Never sat down and listened to the album through. Very enjoyable although better suited for listening in a relaxing spot rather than my afternoon commute - but alas that is the only time I get to listen to most of these albums :(
Ok so I didn't know much about Clapton but had a read and damn he sucks. But the album...it's pretty good. I like the Bob Marley cover and the rest of the album was good. He's certainly a good guitar player. Standouts: Steady Rollin' Man and Mainline Florida.
The most 80s of albums. But seriously pretty good fun, even if it does get a bit tiresome by the end. Buffalo Stance is a tune though.
A few solid songs but I just didn't get what the album was trying to be.
Fuckin 60s brit rock. No.
Terrible weekend of music for me. I think this is my first one star. Unlistenable.
I've never gotten into the Stones. There's a couple of hits that I like but they just feel overrated to me. This album didn't do much for me. Obviously the stand-out track is Paint it, black. The rest of it just didn't really stand out from an already crowded list of 60s rock (I'm starting to think it's the worst decade for music - personal opinion, don't hate). Also the last song just waffles on for wayyyy too long and the lyrics are cringe-city.
Not bad but nothing that really jumped out for me too much. I just don't think she's got enough *something* in her vocals that makes the album worth placing on the list. I did like the beat on Don't Wish Me Well.
Very enjoyable jazz album that turned into a kind of afrobeat. Felt it went a little too long but it went perfectly with my early morning drive to work.
Despite the amazing album cover, I didn't enjoy this at all. Just felt like a rip-off Pink Floyd.
This shit goes hard. Never listened before and first time hearing the original Hurt which I really liked.
Exactly what I don't like about country music, distilled.
Literally didn't even know Courtney Love was in a band. This was a pretty sweet album, kind of Nirvana meets Amyl and the Sniffers. I dig it.
A combination of 90s dance beats and Bjork's strange, twisting vocals made this album an intriguing one. I don't think I've ever listened to a Bjork song so I had no idea what I was in for but I found this a pretty fun experience and it had my foot tapping along. I've no doubt it was pretty innovative for 1993. I'll be interested to see what her other albums on the list offer.
Another solid 90s rock album from Hole. Weirdly I had both of their albums within three days?! Anyway I enjoyed this one too, maybe slightly less than their first but it's still very enjoyable. Favourite was probably the last track, Petals. Great lyrics and I never realised Courtney Love was so good.
There were a couple of interesting tracks but it just felt like wierd-ass background music. Not much of interest here.
One of the first albums on the list that I've previously listened through multiple times. Been a big fan of Endtroducing for years but haven't given it a full spin for quite a while. It still stands up for me. No doubt it's a wierd one that will turn off some people but it just hits a lot of points. Love the sampling, the weird, random voice-samples. Favourite tracks: Building Steam with a Grain of Sand, Napalm / Scatter Brain.
5 obviously.
Very gothic. Very 80s. I wouldn't describe it as 'good' persay, but I enjoyed the ride.
Went into this thinking it would suck but this was a fun album. Just good solid rock. Nothing groundbreaking but very enjoyable.
One of the best live albums of all time. Just such a great connection between Cash and the crowd. Love the imperfectness of the tracks, how he pauses to chuckle or make a joke. And of course the music is just great, not a bad track on this.
Had to adjust my expectations as the name 'Cowboy Junkies' definitely had me prepped for something harder than this. It was much slower, softer and calmer than I expected. Not bad but I did get a little bored with it as there wasn't much variation to the vocals, lovely as they are. Probably a 3 for me - quite listenable but not something I'd revisit.
Look it's pretty good but I can't say it truly vibed with me like some of their other stuff. Have to see how some of their earlier albums go.
Funky, prince/MJ vibes.
Such a strange, interesting album. I never knew what the next track was going to bring. Great lyricism, creepy and funky tones. There's really not much like it.
Four stars for walk alone.
Simply one of the best albums ever recorded. I've already listened to this album many times so this was just another enjoyable re-listen. Can't say much more than what's already been said by other reviews. 5 stars.
Despite the sh*thouse album cover, this wasn't too bad. I liked the Sonny and Cher cover the best - which doesn't say much about their original stuff. But it was a good 35-minute listen for my drive home.
Not really that memorable for me. I did like her later album though.
Look, Elvis was obviously a huge thing, even if he did just repackage black music. But listening to this compared to black musicians from around the same time...this just sounds dated. Nothing against the King but probably just 3 stars from me.
This is of my era but never got into then. There's a good single or two on here but nothing that really hits for me.
I'm sure this is a great album but samba just is not not really for me.
One of my favourites. Still can't understand the lyrics but it doesn't matter it's about the vibe.
Wow two five-star albums in a row. Great start to the week. Great album, although I prefer Wish You Were Here.
Despite this album coming out during peak Indie times when I was in high school they never came across my radar. I was into Vampire Weekend, Two Door Cinema Club, Bloc Party etc.. Didn't expect too much from this but I really enjoyed this album, and would probably listen again. Favourite tracks: Hysteric and Heads Will Roll.
Great album, well deserved as one of the top of that era. Maybe goes on a bit too long but a very enjoyable listen. Haven't given Stevie Wonder too much airplay before but he's a fantastic artist. Can't believe this is his 18th album!
As soon as I saw the album cover I knew this was gonna suck and I wasn't wrong.
So many bangers, just a great album. First few tracks are the best.
Alan Wake-ass music. Creepy.
Love the sound of this album. Easy 5 stars for me. Such a cool voice.
I'm no jazz aficionado, but I do really enjoy some Miles Davis and other artists. I can tell this is technically very good but it just doesn't give me the same feeling as, say, Kind of Blue. It really just felt like one long song that didn't change that much and didn't resonate with me unfortunately.
Funky with a whole ton of influence from a bunch of genres. I liked the tracks with lyrics the most - probably my favourite was the title track. Also love the album cover, very cool.
Never really got into the offspring as a teen, despite dabbling heavily in this genre. Oh I knew their most famous songs but hadn't listened to this album at all. It goes alright, definitely helped to usher in a new era of punk rock/nu-metal.
Haven't listened to this album by Massive Attack before. I mostly enjoyed it but I definitely prefer the vibe of their next album, Mezzanine. I just wanted this to go a bit harder.
As an Australian I feel a compulsion to pronounce this band "zed-zed" top, which is perhaps why I've never given them a listen. Thoroughly enjoyed this album though. The guitar sounds great and it goes hard.
Been a fan of nick drake for a long time. One of these things first is one of my favourite of his and the album is great. I probably prefer Pink Moon but this is a great record.
Need a Duolingo course for Cocteau Twins lyrics. Still enjoyed it, not as much as their later albums from the 90s, but still a really good album. Favourites: Lorelei, Donimo.
Gotta be in the top ten on this whole list. Starts out so strong with Five Years and Soul Love, Moonage Daydream and of course Starman. Probably my favourite Bowie album. RIP.
I think this just scraped a 3 for me. Didn't love it but there were some cool bits. This list is making me realise I really don't like prog rock that much - too wierd, not enough substance, just dudes saying stuff then jamming for way too long.
So refreshing to get some hip hop. I love the beats on these 80s tracks, so good to cruise along to. Great album, with some cool bits of rock thrown in.
Didn't think much on first lesson but enjoyed it a lot on the second. I think this 50s 60s country is growing on me.
Damn this album still goes hard. The beats are solid and the lyrics are brutal. I'm not surprised it achieved such notoriety. So good to drive around to!
My first of apparently 7 (!?) Costello albums on here. Nothing special, I quite liked Alison.
Little mermaid soundtrack.
Had heard of Rush before but never listened previously. Daunting 20-minute opener which was a bit discombobulated and not particularly 'epic' as you'd expect it to be. The rest of the tracks were decent, with Zeppelinesque vocals and some good solos.
Not my favourite Miles Davis but still a decent listen. I preferred the last few minutes.
I like electronic music. I did not like this. Boring, repetitive drum beats. Dull vocals. Basically the same song again and again. Only made it halfway through the first side. Baffling inclusion on this list.
I knew my afternoon commute was ruined when the first track began with that scream. Downhill from there.
Such a great voice, I did find some tracks a bit dull. Not overly my thing.
Peak 80s political folk music. Quite enjoyable, the lyrics are poetic and tell a story.
My first Eno album and very enjoyable. I loved the vibe from Here He Comes onwards. Look forward to more.
First Beatles album! I loved Eleanor Rigby and I'm only sleeping but honestly for me it fell off a bit after that. I know this is supposed to be one of their best but I'm not the biggest Beatles fan and I just don't get what is so great about this one. Still, 4 stars for those two songs which really are very good.
A strange one but pretty good fun to listen to. Solid alt rock which doesn't take itself too seriously.
Sounds like it was recorded with a potato. It's a shame because I could detect the strains of decent music beneath the horrible static. I had to skip some songs because it was just...too much. Like listening to feedback.
I really enjoyed this. From the first song (which is the only one I'd previously heard) the album is strong. The lead singers voice it very unique and gives the album a very angsty vibe - in a good way. 80s emo-folk-punk? A win.
Never listened to this before but definitely heard of it. There's some real bangers in here, even if it is a bit dated.
Really not feeling this.
A couple of great songs in here and some middle range. Not sure about the Honky Tonk stuff.
Really enjoy the Smiths. I've listened to The Queen is Dead countless times but never really gave this album a listen. The blend of the upbeat guitar and Morrissey's unique voice is just so good. Love the gloomy lyrics that contrast with the guitar. Gave this one a few listens, look forward to the next Smiths album.
Kept waiting for this album to coalesce into something clearer but it never did. I couldn't really enjoy the chaotic nature of the tracks, nothing seemed to stand out. A second listen through with my headphones in was definitely better but still only scraped this from a 2 to a 3 for me. I like indie-pop but this just didn't work for me.
This was much heavier than I expected for an album from 1970. A great ride with cool vocals.
Very mid - level. Just bored me a bit to be honest.
Aside from Porcelain and Honey I'd never listened to this album. It flows so nicely. Lovely, warm beats I'd happily listen to again.
Not too bad but the lyrics are a bit Edgelord.
Really enjoyable, old school as heck but great beats.
There's no denying his poetic lyricism. While I've never been a huge Dylan fan, that's mostly through never actually seeking his stuff out. I ended up listening to this album twice (almost) and really quite enjoyed it. The lyrics are fantastic and the storytelling is great. Still can't get behind the harmonica behind everything else works for me.
This hits all my favourite things - 80s and gothic. And damn...those drums. The drummer was going ham on this. Great discovery.
Ugh sorry Kate, this was a toughie. I quite like your other album but this was pretty hard to get into.
I love the music but can't stand the vocals. It's too glam-rocky or something. It's a shame cause the songs go hard af.
Love this album. I listened to it a lot while working on a farm in Scotland so it brings back great memories for me. Love sufjans voice and pretty much every song on this album.
Never given solo Morrisey a listen before but I actually enjoyed this album a lot. Especially the last couple. Even if it doesn't reach the heights of the Smiths he still has a great voice and wonderfully moody lyrics.
Goddam this was really good. Listened twice and really enjoyed it. Kinda like Fleetwood Mac but more new wavey
I've never actually sat down to listen to Dolly Parton but I was excited to see this pop up. Of course I've heard of her and know her as one of the great icons of country music, but I was glad to really enjoy this album. Simple storytelling with a great voice, I enjoyed every song. This is what country music should be. Gotta say this list has really shown my what good country music should be.
Beautiful album. Stevie Wonder just has such a fantastic voice and the music he produces melts like butter. Favourite track : they won't go when I go.
Ok so Clapton sucks, but this album was pretty decent. It waffled on far too long in some parts but he can definitely play guitar. Layla is obviously a great tune.
Refreshingly different album. Never actually sat down and listened to this in whole. There's some fantastic tracks [19-2000, Clint Eastwood, Sunshine] and some that are just a bit boring, so 4 stars for me.
Fun but cheesy album that does grow old kinda quick. Heard the top songs a lot on the radio which kills it a bit.
Amazing debut album, such a great sound, amazing guitar work. Every song works.
Fairly uninteresting.
Such a great album. I'd heard The Weight before but nothing else. The last few tracks especially I really enjoyed, especially I Shall Be Released and Chest Fever. Will absolutely listen again.
Wowee what a voice. I've heard of Janis Joplin but never listened to before. This lady can sing! Very enjoyable, listened twice.
Some obvious really great songs on this album - Smells like teen spirit, Come As You Are, Lithium and Something in the way. A few of the others I didn't really gel with. 4 stars.
Seriously great britpop/indie/electronic (?) album. I listened to a bit of Hot Chip growing up but never this album. The track Look At Where We Are is so good, I listened to it at least 3 times. I'll definitely be blasting their whole discography. 5 stars for me.
These guys really know how to make guitar sound fucking cool.
I wasn't minding it until the last few tracks which probably took a star off for me. The grindy-rock whiny vocal thing worked for a bit.
Some fuckin sick riffs in here. The lyrics are very full on...album starts out singing about Auschwitz I think? But still...goes hard.
Not a bad jazz album. Very dark in parts and then interspersed with some kind of almost latin sounding guitar. Probably not one I'd revisit.
Aside from that classic last song the rest made for a reasonable if forgettable listen. I do enjoy 80s tunes but found some of the songs a little repetitive.
I'm sure this is considered very good but honestly it just bored me. Giving it 3 stars because it wasn't bad enough to go lower.
Three absolute bangers on here - Fall at your feet, It's Only Natural and Weather with you. The rest is decent too but - especially growing up in Australia - those three are tunes that I grew up hearing.
2 Costello albums down
Got a soft spot for this one. I actually really like Caleb's voice and it's my wife's favourite band so gotta give em a 5.
A cool concept but pretty unlistenable, like their other album.
Some really great singles on here - especially California Dreaming...such a good song. I really liked how they layered the vocals and changed up the main vocalist between tracks.
I love a good blues riff and this has plenty of them. Once I realised this was a jam album and just let the music flow by it was really good. Yes it's super long but it didn't really feel it.
Mehhhhh, I thought being Jeff Buckley's dad that I would like this more. But really the songs are wayyy too long and just kind of boring.
Nothing terrible about this album but bit of a stretch to say I need to listen to it before I die. Which to be fair applies to a lot of this list. 2.5 stars rounded down to 2.
I get why some might not like this one but it's got a few cracking tunes on it. Its not a relaxing listen, every song is very sharp and "spiky"...I don't have the musical knowledge to describe it properly.
Only cowards who are lying to themselves give this a 1. Keep on rollin' baby.
This was a nice listen. I found some of the lyrics just ok but the general vibe of the album is very cosy, good for headphones. Saved So Long, Marianne to my playlist.
I'm young enough not to have heard the title track played to death on the radio. Sure I've heard it a bunch of times but never properly listened. It's such an iconic song and the whole album really holds up well. I can easily see myself listening to this again.
Very cool deep voice although tbh the album bored me a bit. Might have got it at the wrong time.
The vibe is immaculate.
Look I'm sure this is a good album but after the second track I saw there was still 50 minutes to go...nah.
Pretty good jazz album overall. Not sure what else to say.
Solid MJ album. Off the wall was probably my fave.
Heroes is a great tune but a lot of the others fell a bit flat for me. Why does it sound like he's singing from the corner of the next room over? I didn't mind the soundscape ending but it was a bit strange.
Look I know this is conceptually a pretty good album but it fell a little flat for me. Maybe the lyrics didn't really hit right?
Wierdly good. Dark tones and beautifully simple music. Enjoyed.
I've never listened to a Beach Boys album and I only know one or two of their songs from advertisement jingles so no pre-conceptions here. I genuinely really enjoyed this album. It had a lot of different elements in it and I feel like it really pulled them off. Also side note, check out Dennis Wilson's wikipedia about his interactions with Charles Manson. Crazy! Dude had a wild life and a pretty tragic end.
Lead singers voice is so good and really works with the music. Guitar work is great. I'll listen to this again.
I don't really have enough knowledge of reggae to compare this to anything. Sounds like reggae to me?
Enjoyable. Plinky plunky
This was huge back in the day. And look some of them are great to sing along to.
Listened to this while doing some house painting and it was great. It actually gave me Metallica vibes at times. Good vibes.
Such a dirty album, in the best. Real sleazebag vibes. Cheating. Lying. Handjobs in a cinema? Fun stuff.
Not bad but it didn't really grab me in any way.
A pretty good listen but not too memorable.
Pretty generic pop rock stuff.
A very enjoyable rem album as always.
What da fuq
This wasn't as bad as I thought it would be going in. I moderately enjoyed it.
Not sure what to say about this one. It was kinda meh
Didn't enjoy as much as other pixies stuff I gotta say.
One certified hit and the rest I could take or leave.
Easy five star. Such great sound. Amazing guitar.
A pretty decent album to listen to but not their best.
Bruh 90 minutes of this dude I can't
Not as good as their earlier stuff. La Grange was top tier for me. Still, the first few tracks were quite good.
Really enjoy the quieter songs not so much a fun of their louder stuff.
Pretty enjoyable album although nothing really stood out that much.
I like Bowie's biggest hits but don't really care that much about the rest of his stuff. This falls under the second category for me.
Chat gpt show me an album that I'll really just not enjoy
I can see why this was a big deal back in the day. It deserves a thorough listen but I just didn't have the time unfortunately.
Sorry, this just be some 60s thing I'm too young to understand. No but seriously it's not bad I guess but I doubt I'll go back to it.
