One World
John MartynThis was really refreshingly new to me, never heard of this artist before. I just loved the tape-loop guitar sound with kind of jazzy, bluesy sounds layered throughout. I'm definintely going to revisit this.

I've never heard of Fairport Convention before but really liking this celtic kind of rock from the 60s. Matty Groves was really a great song, Tam Lin was also very good too, and Sir Patrick Spens. I like the vocalist, she sounds sort of like Grace Slick. I think I'll be revisiting their albums again and I think it's a 5 star for me. I learned a little bit about the singer, Sandy Denny too and didn't realize she sang with Led Zeppelin on Battle of Evermore, one of my favorite songs.
Way way too long and boring. It jumped styles a lot and not to my taste and I guess I don't really like the vocals. I own YHF from Wilco but that is a lot more experimental I think. Definitely skipped many tracks on here and was annoyed by it by the end.
Wow this album was really good, I especially liked the guest vocalists and her unique singing voice. "Bird Guhl" was especially moving and I recommended this to my kid already for her to listen to. Really a great album for me today.
I loved this, even the crazy weird moaning and Halloween like screaming of it. I had never heard of CAN before but I will be listening to this again here shortly. I loved the grooves of this, especially Halleluhwah and Paperhouse. 5 stars for me.
The first 1/2 of this album was pretty OK for me but the 2nd half, around Warszawa and beyond is amazing but that's probably my love of 70's Brian Eno showing through.
This was alright, I had not heard most of these songs. Unfortunately I'm going to go with a rating of 1 I think, and I'm unlikely to revisit it as opposed to "Live!" London, 1974. That live album is probably a 4 for me - edited, bumping this up to a 2
This was better than I expected it to be and I gave it a fair listen without skipping. Even though, going in I knew it was not for me since I believed it to be way outside of my cultural experience. I am completely unfamiliar with this genre and themes but I can see how it was so apparently influential. There were some rhythms and samples that were pretty good and included much more styles from RnB than I expected. I'm glad to have heard it but I know I'm not revisiting this.
This is already more approachable to me than when this first came out. This was so huge when I was \"coming of age\" as a Gen X'er in the 90s in high school, but the popular culture of that era always seemed to pass me by. (ha! even today) I'm familiar with most of these songs already because they've apparently permeated into my core being because of my age and when this album came out. I watched a TON of MTV leading up to this time too, and I definitely remember this \"Smells Like Teen Spirit\" video, it was played all the time. There were a few tracks new to me but I'd say I enjoyed this more than I expected to and would probably revisit it.
This just OK for me, I only recognized 1 or 2 songs off this album and I didn't enjoy it as much as Nevermind from Nirvana but there were a few memorable tracks like Big Me and Exhausted. I probably won't revisit this either, but I read that Dave Grohl recorded a demo of this album all by himself after Cobain's death, so that was really impressive.
I've never been a huge fan of the vocals of the singer. This album was pretty uninspiring for me, and not memorable. A few things here and there were interesting to me but nothing worth coming back to for me. Maybe 3 but probably more like 2.5
This is a solid 4/5 for me and I had no idea what to expect from this band. The vocals and guitar are really pretty good and I think it's tastefully heavy with just a nice hint of Jamiroquai for me. I can definitely see the appeal and will be revisiting this for sure. I think I've heard Drive before but it was just so-so for me, but Pardon Me was a great song. Lots of things for me to come back to on this album for sure.
2 or 3 for me. It's kind of a baseline corny English \"Herman's Hermits\" feel for most of the album and then some psychedelia thrown in some spots and some fun and weird tracks. favorites so far: opener - title track last of the steam powered engines sitting by the riverside all of my friends were there wicked Annabella people take pictures of each other
There is undeniable energy on that opening track that I have definitely heard before, but maybe not this original recording. An overall 3 for me I think. This reminds me of when I stayed up late listening to "Blues Before Sunrise" on my local radio station with my walkman as a kid, I probably fell asleep to that show every Saturday night for a few years. liked, distorted harmonica sound! i want to be loved blues had a baby and they called it rock and roll cross-eyed cat
A couple of good gems on here but not my favorite Talking Heads album. 3 I would think.
This was a lot better than I thought. Such a great storyteller and I recognized most of these though I tend to skip past Billy Joel on the radio thinking it's not for me. I listened to this whole album and have a much better appreciation for him afterward. definitely a 4 I think for me
Instant 5 star for me. My wife and I danced to Perfect Day at my wedding. Love this album and all its glam-rock quirkiness. Favorites are Satellite of Love, Perfect Day, Walk on the Wild Side, I'm So Free, Wagon Wheel, and basically the whole album.
Opening track was really pretty nice and chill, perfect for the rainy/overcast day when I listened to it. I'm impressed with his vocals for sure. Next track was a bit more bluegrassy/country that has never been my jam but he's a great singer. throwback '50s sound for the 3rd track for Hotel Room The Ocean was a pretty chill vibe too, I did like that. Some things on here I did enjoy but probably an overall 3 for me.
I'm a fan of The Who but this album did little for me, I think this isn't something I'll return to. I've heard only 1 or 2 of these tracks before
This is a great album, I've already owned and listened to this a lot
also one of my favorites that I own. I love the sound of this album and Brian Wilson's lyrics of course. Definitely a 5 star
I did own a compilation CD back in the day with some Donovon on it, and I haven't heard it in years, I love the title track. Legend of Girl Child Linda not so much. Lots and lots of sitar Bert's Blues is pretty good Love Seasons of the Witch The Trip is pretty good too, the Fat Angel is pretty groovy maybe a 2 for this album, not my favorite but some hidden gems in there and 2 tracks I love.
2 stars for me. not my speed really, kind of catchy 90's brit-pop but nothing I'm coming back to really.
I really like the chill vibe of this album, I have this CD still somewhere.
I had never heard of him before but something about this album just was the perfect soundtrack to my morning. I listened to it twice back to back. 5 stars for me.
pretty meh and boring on this one. i'm not inspired by any of the tracks and I haven't heard any of them before. I might go with a 1 on this album, nothing redeeming here for me.
son of a preacher man is wonderful and that song is 5 stars. it's one of my wife's favorite songs of all time. song's I really enjoyed: "don't forget about me" "so much love" "I don't want to hear it anymore" I love her voice and the motown sound of this album and it's a strong 4 for this overall I'd say.
wow. this is just bonkers crazy. I've not heard anything quite like this or anything from this band before. It's not something I'd put into my music listening rotation, but it was fun to listen to all the way through. Each track I was saying "what the hell?" This is a strong 4 I think for how fun, crazy and unpredictable it was. Change was really good
This came out in 2002 and was popular as the "CD of the month" when my wife and I were dating, so this has a lot of memories for me. We both really liked this album, and especially the title track. The Flaming Lips were actually touring recently in our town too but we sadly couldn't make the show. That was every bit as fun, weird, sad, and wacky as I remember it being. "Fight test", and the album's title track, and "do you realize" are my favorites and a strong overall 4 now that I listen to it again after so long.
Boulevard of Broken Dreams brought this from a 1 to a 2 for me, but I'm not a green day fan.
sixteen blue is good, and androgynous, and answering machine. I'd say this is an overall 3 for me. some tracks I didn't mind
The first few tracks are really amazing but I was less impressed with the rest of the album, even calling myself a U2 fan. I'm at a 3 I think.
Kracked wasn't too bad. I'm not a huge fan of the vocals. I do like a lot of noise and distortion but some of this is getting to be a bit much for me. Interesting Cure cover on Just Like Heaven, stopped really abruptly. I'm probably at a 2 here.
I just wasn't in the mood for REM today. I have a couple of their most popular albums and enjoyed listening to those back in the day but I'm not really impressed with this album. Maybe a 1 for me, nothing really memorable at all in my first listen.
I had this CD back in the day, I really enjoyed it at the time, along with Automatic for the People. This seems edgier and sharper than Murmur, which I did not care for.
I was pleasantly surprised by this album. I have never really cared for much of the Steely Dan I've heard in regular radio rotation, and never really enjoyed the harmony of voices that they have but listening to this album had really changed my mind on how talented they are. A couple of things on here were corny and twangy I'd say but a lot of this was really good and I listened to it twice in a row!
Quite a bit better than what I thought this would be. Much rockier and funkier and quite good. I new the opening track, Love the One Your With of course, and I'm kind of tired of that song so I think I was expecting more tracks like that. But this was much better, I'm probably 5 stars here.
67 years later and still amazing. I really liked that they included the out-takes. Her voice is amazing and I loved listening to this. I torn between a 4 and 5 for this album. Thinking back on this after listening I'll go with a 5
This was better than I expected and my recent harder listening habits have made Black Sabbath more tolerable to me. Easily a 4
Not really feeling this album today. I'm probably going with a 2 so far. There's some tracks that I thought were alright, Bird of Beauty and You Haven't Done Nothin' but most of this album wasn't memorable for me.
Not really excited about this band. I'm not a fan of the vocals for sure. I've heard "Here Comes Your Man" before and didn't realize that was the Pixies.
The strings and the horns are fun in this album. I've obviously heard the theme song but nothing else from Isaac Hayes before, enjoying it so far. Some really groovy stuff on this so far, especially like the 20 minute "Do Your Thing". Oh I forgot he was Chef in South Park! Prob a 4 for me
Instant 5 for me. Love his album and I don't even have to listen to it to rate it.
I've heard most of these songs before, and this was better than expected. I've never been a huge Van Halen fan but after listening to this album, I'd definitely call it a 4 out of 5.
Overall a 3 I think. I was not really inspired by this but I didn't dislike it. Some of beats were good for working with it on in the background.
Not a fan of this hardcode punk sound. Some interesting things here and it was really short! Only a 15 minute album on Spotify. I'm going with a 2.
Highlights for me are few on this album. This isn't really jiving with my mood for the day and pretty depressing that this is his last album. "Traveling light" - is alright "It Seemed the Better Way" - sounds like something from Twin Peaks I'm probably at a 2 for this album.
This was pretty good, I hadn't been much of a White Stripes fan in the past so I wasn't sure I'd like this but it wasn't too bad, I'd say a 3.5 but I'll rate it a 3
Meh. These were OK: - Your own back yard - Born to be with you / streetheart - Good lovin' man 2 definitely for me on this album, was really pretty boring
I was really surprised by this. It was a fun groove to have on this morning while I worked, not at all what I expected. I think I'll be returning to this album for sure, and maybe look into other albums by Primal Scream if they're like this.
This had a really nice groove to it that was fun to work with having it on in the background.
Can't really stand the vocals and sloppiness and buy into the hype around this album. Submission and Pretty Vacant weren't terrible and Anarchy was ok. I've heard Anarchy and God Save the Queen before. 2 star for sure for me.
Amazing voice, a really good album
This was just OK, I had heard Rooster since that was really popular, some of these tracks I had to skip because I really disliked them, but some weren't so bad, overall a 3 I think.
Wow I can't believe this was recorded in 1965, they had a pretty rocking sound much earlier than I thought. I listened to the mono remastered release and heard a lot of songs I'd never heard before. Obviously My Generation and The Kids Are Alright are great but heard several more songs on here that I liked. Overall a 4 I'd say.
Always an interesting sonic experience with Radiohead. I never had listened to this album before, I had OK Computer and Amnesiac. I'd probably go back and listen to this again being a fan of those older Radiohead albums. Tracks I liked: All I Need Reckoner plus a few more
Wow, this singer is great! Not at all what I expected, a really good listen that has a ton of hard energy to it. 4 stars
I was between a 2 an 3 here, some good beats and head-bobbing moments. Definitely not my taste but probably a 2.5
I started reading the reviews before listening so I knew what I was in for but they had no way to prepare me for this. It is every bit as insane as I was led to believe and more. I listened to the entire thing in 1 sitting without interruption. It’s got really great moments of jazz in this, 5% of the time. The rest is like a firetruck siren and the musicians were in a giant blender. This has altered my ears and my brain permanently. Now I can taste music. Now I can see through time.
I know So Far Way, Walk of Life and Money for Nothing of course. That's a pretty iconic song, and I remember the video and Weird Al parody. I really dislike Walk of Life though. Money for Nothing is great Your Latest Trick is really sappy and most of Why Worry was too. Why Worry was really boring until the last few minutes and it's a pretty chill vibe for this morning. Around the 6 min mark though. Ride Across the River is pretty cool, I like the guitar in that song and the guitar in One World. Overall a 3 probably but Money for Nothing holds this album up. I keep thinking I'm listening to Steely Dan, which I did enjoy listening to when one of their albums came up. I was hoping this album had Sultans of Swing, which is a really great song, but no.
Wow, loved every minute of this album, it was great! 5 stars for me and will listen again certainly.
This is what I imagined an album made by the Looney Tunes cartoon character Taz, the Tasmanian Devil, would sound like. Not my jam today nor will ever be I'm afraid.
Overall I thought this was really good, I'm a fan of Lou Reed and I feel like she was similar to him. I'll go find more Patti Smith to listen to, apparently Because the Night is popular of hers, but not on this album. I liked: Gloria Birdland Free Money Land: Horses/Land of a Thousand Dancse/La Merde Pretty solid 4 star album for me.
A tiny bit of jazz underneath some of these tracks but definitely not for me. Some good beats but unfortunately not a fan.
I know most of these songs and I do really enjoy The Police but haven't listened to them in a long time. I think this is overall a 4 for me for sure. Favorites: Murder By Numbers Synchronicity King of Pain Wrapped Around Your Finger (I remember that MTV video with the candles) Least favorite track is absolutely Mother!
I think I prefer older Police than Synchronicity, though I gave that a 4. Coming back to the Police after a long time, I'm enjoying it so far, I think this is another 4 album for me.
Just Like Honey was pretty good, I did enjoy that song. Also found these OK: - The Hardest Walk - Taste of Cindy - Some Candy Talking (reminds me of Velvet Underground) - Sowing Seeds I do like a trashy, distorted guitar sound, but this is a bit much. Plus a lot of the songs sounded very much alike. I had to skip a few songs where the background distortion was so crunchy. Going with a 2 for this album
I'm coming back to Nirvana after years of avoiding listening to them. I ended up really enjoying their early studio albums, and of course I remember when this live album was recorded. It was just played everywhere. I'm not a huge fan of the unplugged series of albums. I think this was pretty good but I'm going with a 3 on this one, not super inspiring to me.
Never heard of this band. Only a few tracks off this album are available to me on Spotify so this is a partial review. I do like 60s psychedelia but not a big fan folky-rock or country-rock like 8:05 and Mr. Blues. Indifference was pretty good. Rounder also I liked, and Sweet Ride was pretty good. Overall a 2 from what tracks I could review.
Not at all a fan of Elvis and the cult that followed him around. The vocal styles are irritating and the mix of rockabilly is just uninteresting to me.
Definitely a 3 star album for me, some of these tracks I've never heard before. Fame and Young American's really carry this album and I love a lot of David Bowie.
Pretty mellow and chill downbeat vibe today, kind of reminded me of Air. It wasn't too bad, I think this was a 3 for my mood today.
This was really good and I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did, really smooth R&B and he has an amazing voice! I think it's a solid 4 star for me.
There was a lot of really interesting songs on here that I had never heard. I've heard Tiny Dancer of course and do enjoy that. Indian Sunset was really powerful, and Razor Face was really silly but fun. Overall a solid 4 star album for me and I'll probably revisit this one for sure.
Wow that was super funky, and a really fun album. I had never seen the movie before and know that this was a soundtrack, so it makes me want to go watch it now.
This was sort of catchy, I see the Take Me Out song is hugely popular on Spotify and I think I've heard that before in a tv show or movie maybe. Some good guitar licks in here and some catchy beats but overall not too memorable for me by the end, decent background music by that point. Maybe a 3 star for me.
This was a good 3 star album for me. I had never heard of them before and I was kind of reminded of really early The Cure but maybe a bit more boring. Strange House in the Snow was totally bonkers, and the live track at the end of Sleeping Gas was pretty good. Several pretty good tracks on here that I may return to, or may look into their other albums, so I guess that means a 3 star album.
Well I got to say I did not expect to enjoy this album as much as I did, very emotional and moving and I really enjoyed the covers of Hurt and Personal Jesus, plus a lot of other songs on here I'd heard of before. Unexpected 5 star album for me, especially after going back and watching the music video for his cover of Hurt.
I know their popular songs on here but never listened to this in it's entirety. Wow they just harmonize so well on Scarborough Fair. A Simple Desultory Philippic was a fun poke at Dylan. Homeword Bound is also a great song, and 59th St Bridge, but I'm pretty bored with this rest of this, not a huge fan of folk and there's not enough folk/rock here for me. I'm probably at 3 just for those tracks I already knew.
I'm pretty uninspired by this album, minus the wonderful track: Bang a Gong, which I love.
There was a lot of interesting listening going on here, with the strings and horns. Really interesting late 60s rock that I had never heard of before, I'll probably revisit some of this group as well.
absolutely not into this. I really dislike his style of singing and vocals. it's just not for me. 1 star
Really not for me but I'm not it's audience obviously. I've never visited hip hop and rap as a genre. This had some good beats but not for me.
I do enjoy Radiohead, I did back in the day and it's been fun to revisit it. I dug this CD out so I could listen to the physical copy. I'm having a hard time telling this album apart from Kid A so I'll go back and listen to that at some point.
I have this on CD and I haven't listened to it in a long while. I ended up listening to the extended 2hr version on Spotify while playing some video games and it actually complimented the game quite a bit. A lot of this was repetitive but I think that was just the extended mix, overall a 4 as I enjoyed it, I have another Moby CD that I'll have to dig out.
Pearly Queen is really good don't be sad was just ok who knows what tomorrow may bring is cool feelin' alright is a great cover Roamin Thro The Gloamin was pretty cool too Means to an end, good Overall I really enjoyed this album, I've never heard anything from Traffic before besides Mr Fantasy, which was not on this album. I think I'll be revisiting this for sure.
This was pretty groovy and a lot of fun! I recommended this to my kid to listen to as well, the latter part of the album I was losing interest but overall I'd say a fun 4 album.
I do really like Miles Davis and I guess I hadn't heard this album before, being earlier than Kind of Blue. While this was really good, it didn't grab my attention like other recordings of his but overall a 4 for me.
This was a pretty solid and fun Rock album that I know I've heard tracks off of, and maybe my kids played for me before. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
About 1/2 way through and really liking this so far, it's really resonated with my mood for the evening. I'll definitely revisit Sonic Youth and this album I think. I certainly would have listened to this a lot when I was younger, I'm not sure why I didn't discover them until this album challenge. Not super thrilled with the word-jazz of In The Kingdom #19. My 14yro son accurately described this as "sounds kinda goth" Bubblegum is a lot of fun
Wow the messages are still extremely important and relevant today, and wasn't what I expected it to be. I'm going with a 4 since I'm definitely not a hip hop fan but the lyrics and his emotion he's delivering is really good.
I love Lou Reed, and I own White Light, White Heat so I'm pretty familiar with this style. I have not heard these songs on this Velvet Underground release at all. Pale Blue Eyes is great and I think I've heard that before Beginning to See The Light was fun I'm Set Free I liked The Murder Mystery was good too, some crazy things going on in there and got kind of long.. oh I've heard After Hours before too, that's a great song. Definitely a 4 star album for me.
Surprisingly catchy! I've heard the 2 popular songs on there, We Got the Beat and Our Lips Are Sealed. This was pretty good have on in the background without focussing too much on but I did enjoy this
I've never heard of Fairport Convention before but really liking this celtic kind of rock from the 60s.
I own some of these tracks on New Order Singles, I haven't heard these: This Time of Night Sunrise Sooner Than You Think Face-up I own Singles, Substance and Get Ready on CD so I'm a New Order fan. I learned a little bit about Joy Division looking this album up too, so I think I'll explore their work more since New Order was founded from the remaining members. I love this sound and the vocalist, and this is definitely a 5 star for me.
So I completely thought Pavement was somebody else. I'd never heard this before, and it's just OK for me. I guess a 3 so far listening about 1/2 through the album. Nothing has really grabbed my attention yet. Loretta's Scars is alright "Here" sounds a lot like Lou Reed to me Jackals, False Grails is alright I think this is a 3 for me.
wow, this was an amazing album. 5 stars all the way
I have no idea why I haven't listened to more Queen before. This album was great, a lot of prog rock themes going on here which I love. Reminds me of some Rush and Led Zeppelin, I'll definitely be revisiting this and pretty soon too.
Own this, love this, own other Dave Brubeck albums too.
I've listened to it for more than an hour, it's a 2 hour double CD and I'm not super inspired by this album. I do like electronic music and this was a decent fit into my workflow this afternoon but I've heard and enjoy better electronic music than this. I think I'll go with 2 star.
I'm a Pink Floyd fan, even an early PF fan and knew of some of the stories of Syd Barrett but never have listened to his albums. I had heard of Golden Hair, and did enjoy that song, there was a cover of that song done really well by Slowdive. The rest of the album wasn't my favorite, I'm going to go with 2 star I think.
This was a fun album, not really my interest but I have heard the Aerosmith collaboration before. Overall fun 3 star for me.
I whole lot of love this album
wow this whole album was amazing, I especially loved Solid Ground.
Definitely some good grooves in here but I felt like the tracks were dragged out too long and wasn't too inspired and skipped around a bit. 2 star for me.
I hate Randy Newman's singing. Automatic 1 star
I was pleasantly surprised by this album, even though there were some corny rockabilly tracks and I've never liked Fogerty's singing. I went into this not really enjoying what I've heard from CCR before but changed my mind to a 4 for this album.
Originally thought this was boring and not for me, but I did start to warm to this slightly this morning. I liked "Because Of You" and "One In A Hundred" so far. Pretty light hearted, lullaby like music with guitar and some harmonica. "Where My Love Lies Asleep" is a very soothing, sleepy like old time cowboy music. Not really in the mood for this today and musically it's not my favorite but I'll go with an overall 2. I skipped the last couple of tracks.
Definitely enjoyed this, I had never listened to Iron Maiden before and will be checking out more of their albums on some more friends recommendations
Carry On, Almost Cut My Hair, Woodstock, Deja Vu, I really like and have listened to those on a compilation album a long time ago. I love their harmony of voices. I never cared for the slide guitar on Teach Your Children. Overall a really great album with just a few misses for me, 4 star.
I really can't quite classify what I just listened to there. I enjoyed this for sure, very unique mix of styles here. I think I'll go with a 4 overall
This was really interesting to listen to, and I had just listened to the Spirtualized album "Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space" which I think was similar to this in a lot of ways. I'm going to go with an overall 3 and maybe not quite as good as the Spirtualized album but a fun listen
Really great stuff on here, I had never heard some of these tracks. Love Cloud 9, overall a 4 for me.
There were some really interesting and pretty songs in this album, it was really a unique listen for me. Broken Heart was really pretty and I did enjoy that track plus "No God Only Religion", "Cool Waves" and several more on here. Cool, "Cop Shoot Cop" is a nice 17 minute jam so far that I'm kind of enjoying. Overall though I think this isn't much beyond a 3 for me. Interesting though for sure
I've heard enough of this to decide it wasn't for me. I love PJ Harvey though so I'm going to give this a 2 star. - edited, a pretty low value of 2 star though
I did enjoy this, there are some hugely popular tracks on here that I've heard before, and I'm reminded of Radiohead when I listened to this and I do like Radiohead. I think I'll come back to this and recommended this album to someone already.
Overall a pretty pleasant listen! I knew of "Ricky Don't Lose That Number" of course but I never thought I enjoyed that song. Listening to it again I thought it was catchy and enjoyed the album overall. I think I'll go with a 3.
Definitely not feeling this, not for me and I'm getting nothing from it. I actually can't stand the vocalist and the beats aren't enough to hold my attention
I've listened to it enough to know it's not for me. I definitely like this better than the album from The Streets in this album challenge but I'll give this a 2.
I didn't care for some of the growling and screaming here but this album was alright, overall I don't think I'm going to come back to this and have it at a 2.
This was quirky and fun and I absolutely recognized some tracks on here but the rest was pretty obscure. I like a bunch of these even though the lyrics were pretty corny but I think I'll come back to listening to Queen again. 4 star
I love this album, I own it from a long time ago. It's not my favorite Cure album but I really love the doomy vibe I get from the 2nd half of this. 5 star
this had a really nice groove to it and I had heard the first track for sure. I've always been meaning to listen to Al Green so I'm glad this came up today. 4 stars for sure
Thunder Road and 10th Ave Freeze-out and the title track were actually pretty good, and I know I've heard some of those before. Jungleland I also enjoyed too Overall I think I'll give this a 4, I enjoyed a lot of this album.
Overall pretty good, I didn't expect this to be super great from what I hear on the radio but I was nodding a long to some things here. Rudy was great and there was a nice hidden theramin in Hide In Your Shell, overall 3 stars I think, but maybe a mid 3.
Nothing super interesting here, I mostly listened to this in the background and didn't enjoy the sound much. I think 2 star
Overall a great album, a bit less energy than my all time favorite Bob Marley album, Live! 1975.
Ex Lion Tamer is ok. I enjoy the tempo changes I hear a lot in these songs in the beginning. then it got of repetitive. Mannequin is alright too, and Champs. I recognized Strange too from the REM cover, I never knew that version was a cover of Wire's version. So far I'm thinking a 2.
This was amazing, super cool, long play Santana-like vibes on some tracks. love this.
Tony's Theme was fun, but mostly I didn't find much inspiration here. 2 star I think. Brick is Red is also ok.
This was an interesting listen, and I sent this to my college kid thinking they might like it. Overall I enjoyed it, and laughed at some of the wacky lyrics. Maybe a 4?
"I Don't Know" was alright, and I enjoyed some of "What You Do To Me" but I did not like "Metal Baby", "Pet Rock" is ok. Overall I'm not a huge fan, it was alright but I don't think I can give this a 3 and a 2 instead.
This was pretty good, I can only compare to Bob Marley with my limited raggae listening but it was overall pretty good, I'd go with a 3 I think.
Overall a sold 3, great harmony and many of the tracks I know and love
Really groovy stuff, I instantly recognized the opening track. Lots of great grooves on here and a lot of elements I've heard elsewhere too, a strong 3 here for me.
I really liked the psychedelic rock here and had only heard a few of these songs. Very fun for me and a strong 4
A fun journey into the 1980s for me, and I've heard those famous tracks "Shoot That Poison Arrow" and "The Look Of Love" a ton. This was a fun album for me that got my mood this morning up and running for the day. I'd say a fun 4 star!
Pretty amazing, I hadn't listened to this whole thing before but I recognized something from it being KC fan. I loved the weirdness of this, plus the album cover is so interesting! easy 5 star.
No doubt that Southern Man is a powerful song. I like "Birds" too and "Only Love Can Break Your Heart", and "When You Dance I Can Really Love". Overall a good 4 album, I'm just not a huge fan of his vocals but appreciate the song writing for sure.
I recently was introduced to this album before and thought it was amazing. His song writing, vocals and music are great, this is an immediate 5 star album and I'm glad to revisit listening to this today.
Definitely a 5 star album. His voice is so smooth and the song writing is amazing. I heard Mercy Mercy Me before and What's Going On but nothing else before. I loved that all the tracks blended together really nicely after Mercy Mercy Me and I really liked the extended Right On. I'll be revisiting this in the future for sure.
I just love the sound of the Sultans of Swing, In The Gallery is also really good. I recently listened to another Dire Straits album in the album challenge and discovered that I kind of like them. I think overall this is a 3 star album for me.
This was alright for me but it just didn't match my vibe today. I think the song writing was really good but I'm going to go with a 3 today, a little too melancholy for me.
Hero, E-Musik, and After Eight were ok on this album, they had a simple repetition that I kind of liked, might be good to have on in the background while working and not concentrating on it. The beginning of this album felt very ambient and minimalist to me and then picked up quite a bit. There's kind of a punk feel to the distortion and tempo in a bunch of these songs that I didn't mind plus electronic wind sounds and backmasking voices with flangers
didn't care for the opening track. sound kind of too busy, almost trying too hard to sound unique there with all the layering going on. 2nd track had a good acoustic guitar part in the beginning The Bride was alright and Stillness Is The Move had a unique sound, I liked the sound of the vocals. I didn't care for Useful Chamber at all and skipped it half way through overall this isn't for me I think, possibly a 2 today.
A Sailor's Life was really good, I enjoyed that song and Cajun Woman was alright. I just love her voice too, I had listened to another Fairport Convention album in this challenge a few weeks back and really liked that one. 3 stars overall
This was better than expected, you can kind of hear that she's burning herself out in the lyrics of this album, sad that she deteriorated like she did. Overall a 3 in my book.
I enjoyed this and knew most of these songs of course. Some of the songs I hadn't heard were pretty catchy too. I originally didn't like The Cars much but I've grown to appreciate them a bit more now. 4 stars
This was certainly an interesting listen, and I enjoyed this kind of punk-raggae. I'd never heard of this band before. Overall a good 4 star record
Really great voice and this was funkier than I expected it to be, only knowing "Smooth Operator" ahead of time. I thought it was going to be more boring adult-contemporary but it was a nice listen and really smooth. I don't think I can go to 4 though, a strong 3.
Pretty sleepy easy listening for me this morning. I Shot The Sheriff was the obvious highlight for me, Steady Rollin' Man also good, Let It Grow a lesser extent. Overall probably a 2 here, I'm just not feeling this today. For Clapton, I do really like Derek and the Dominos and Cream especially but not so much his solo work. I did own 24 Nights which I thought was really good too.
I made it through almost 1/2 of the album and I knew some of these songs but definitely not my speed even growing up listening to Bob Dylan from my parents.
I liked Blackened when it slowed down about half way through. This feels like the Quake II video game sound track. The title track is alright. I'm sure this was pretty epic when it was released. I avoided Metallica and metal in general when I was finding my own music tastes in high school <%large_number%> years ago. I think I've listened to this album before though. One isn't bad either or Harvester of Sorrow and Frayed Ends of Sanity So far I'm at a 3 overall, not my super favorite but I can understand the appeal.
I own this on CD so it automatically gets bumped up, listening to it again I've really enjoyed it, my favorites are Nothing, Behind the Wheel, Never Let Me Down Again. I also learned that the CD might have a hidden track on it, which is interesting! Overall 5 star
I really enjoy listening to Peter Gabriel, and I know this album really well, an easy 5 star listen for me.
Well not my favorite but undeniably good music on here. I knew of some of these popular tracks and enjoyed a lot of the other ones, super funky!
This was overall enjoyable, and I hadn't listened to it before, though I had heard Pump It Up from somewhere before. I think his voice is sort of annoying but overall this was better than expected.
Well I was pleasantly surprised at this and I knew several of these songs already. Pretty solid 70's rock and I shouldn't have dismissed them by not listening before. Overall a solid 4 star album for me.
There's really not a lot here that appeals to me. Sure it was influential I bet, and I immediately recognized Hey Ya! with 1.5 billion listens. "My Favorite Things" was really an interesting take on that jazz song too that was enjoyable but overall a 2 for me.
Wow this album was really good, I especially liked the guest vocalists and her unique singing voice. "Bird Guhl" was especially moving and I recommended this to my kid already for her to listen to. Really a great album for me today.
This was really fun and silly as I expected Flaming Lips to be, I am a big fan of Yoshimi vs The Pink Robots but I've never listened to this album before. I recommended it to my wife since she's a fan too, I think this is a fun 4 star album for me.
Well I'm definitely not a country fan but I have a lot of respect for Dolly Parton. It was listenable for me for sure but I'm going to go with a 2 since country is not for me.
I've heard enough of this album (probably 2/3 of it) to go with a pretty solid 3 for me. I'm not sure hugest fan of the vocals but it certainly was undeniably influential.
I listened to almost all 2 hours of this, it was really awesome! I haven't heard Deep Purple in a long time but they really had a great show in Japan for this live album. Ian Gillan can really belt it out, very impressed with this album.
Wow his energy! He's definitely killing it in this concert.
eays automatic 5 stars for me
Another 5 star album that I've listened to many, many times. It's not my all-time favorite Pink Floyd Album, that would be Meddle, but this is a great one.
Everybody Hurts is a really good song. I enjoyed this so far knowing most of the music. Man On The Moon is also great. I didn't have this album on CD back in the day but I had several other REM CDs and enjoyed them, though I think I prefer older REM. This is a pretty good 4 star for me with some really great popular tracks.
Automatic 5 star for me. Listened to this so many times!
The One wasn't that bad, but overall I could not stand this album.
There's certainly some fun samples going on in this r&b record, Killing Me Softly was really pretty good, I didn't realize that this was Lauren Hill singing. It's not for me but a pretty good 3 album with the samples and Lauren's voice was really good, and a nice cover of No Woman No Cry.
I love 60's psychedelia, and never heard anything from this band besides obviously In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. Some pretty solid psychedelic rock on there, and In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida just gets an automatic 4 star for me, a stark contrast to the opinion of my album challenge partner :)
Well this album was a fun ride and all over the place! I had never heard The Pogues before, and I think I'll listen to more of their albums. Definitely a good 4 star album.
Well the highlight is certainly the title track, really love that song. Great album overall, and a good 4 stars for me.
I know the 3 popular tracks on this album and have never listened to anything from Cheap Trick that I haven't heard on the radio. I do enjoy Surrender quite a bit but overall an ok 3 star album for me.
Not my favforite. I had heard Beth before and had no idea that was Kiss. Overall ok but not my speed.
Bluesy? Folksy? I really enjoyed this album and loved their sound and the vocalist. It just fit my mood pretty well today and I think I'll look up more of their recordings, especially the 20th Anniversary recording of this Trinity Session album. Definitely a good 4 star album for me.
Tentative Decisions is pretty good, the first couple of tracks were super corny. Happy Day was ok and I did like No Compassion. Don't worry the government I've heard before and enjoyed, along with Love Building on Fire. First Week and Pulled Up are kind of catchy. I do like the groove of Sugar On My Tongue. This is kind of hot and cold, jumping between corny and pretty good so far for me. I do love Psycho Killer track and know that one really well. I think I'm between a 2 and 3 on this album.
I don't really know where to go with this album. I like some of their sounds. The vocals were really strange and unintelligible. I'm torn between a 2 and a 3 with this but I think I'll go with a 2.
"Stop me if you think you've heard this one before" isn't bad. "Last Night I Dreamt that Somebody Loved Me" was ok but nothing in here for me beyond a 1.
Mayfly was pretty catchy but overall I'm not a fan of the whispy vocals much. Judy and the Dream Horses I've heard somewhere, a movie soundtrack maybe? I do kind of like that song but not overall enough to raise this album beyond a 2.
I did enjoy this and recognized some of the popular songs. I'm between a 3 and 4 here
This was pretty groovy and enjoyable but not much above a 3 for me.
This is another amazing album, automatic 5 star for me.
I own this. I love this album. Automatic 5 stars for me
This didn't do anything for me. I'm going to go with a 2
I just love Bittersweet Symphony, and The Rolling People is pretty good, I've never heard anything from The Verve besids Bittersweet Symphony. So far I'm liking their sound, sort of a throwback to 1960s rock. Some of the slide guitar songs like The Drugs Don't work aren't my style. I feel like I've heard Catching The Butterfly before, that's kind of a good groove. Weeping Willow is good too, overall I think this is a better version of Oasis
I'd never heard this before and I just love the sound, the keyboards, and saxophonist especially. I'll be revisiting this certainly, and it had a nice relaxing vibe to my morning this morning that meshed well.
That was so funky! Like Muppets From Space level of funkiness! Really pretty good, but I'm going with an overall 4.
Undeniable that this is a 5 star record. So many great hits on here and I never considered myself a Fleetwood Mac fan, only heard things on popular radio but what I did hear I enjoyed.
Automatic 5 star for me, I own this and loved listening to this on headphones in my bedroom in high school.
I know some of this album, but this is much earlier Clash than I've listened to. I've always enjoyed Combat Rock and I just love Sandinista so I recognize some of these tracks probably from there. Overall enjoying this, I think I'm at a 3 or 4 at the moment.
Strangered in the Night is pretty good and Fooled Again, I've head the popular tracks of course, but I've never been a Petty fan. I do remember some of the MTV videos he did in the 1980s but I'm going to go with a 3 I think.
This was really refreshingly new to me, never heard of this artist before. I just loved the tape-loop guitar sound with kind of jazzy, bluesy sounds layered throughout. I'm definintely going to revisit this.
Waterloo Sunset is a great song, but the rest of this wasn't very memorable for me. I'm going with a 2
I'm getting a strong Björk vibe with this artist. Really cool and intersting mixes going on here, and I recommended this to my teenager too.
Overall I think this was pretty good, maybe a mid 3 star album. I haven't listened to The Doors in forever and a lot of these songs were new to me.
Hard to believe that this is one person playing all this and that it was all improvised as well. It is definitely impressive for sure
Great stuff, and great classics on this album.
Really great, I loved this and I listened to about 2 hours of the extended mix! I'm going to revisit this again.
Some fluffier tracks on here but overall a solid 70s rock album that I really enjoyed
A lot of unique and interesting variation in between songs, Moon Birds was OK too, I think I'll go with a 3 here
Way way too long and boring. It jumped styles a lot and not to my taste and I guess I don't really like the vocals. I own YHF from Wilco but that is a lot more experimental I think. Definitely skipped many tracks on here and was annoyed by it by the end.
Band on the Run is really good, and I love Jet but those were not enough to elevate this album above a 2
A pretty cool retro vibe with their sound. Overall really fun album
Nothing for me here, really screamy and grungy.
I found some of this appealing and I like their doomy sound in some tracks, but overall not enough to bring it past a 2 for me. Interesting for sure but not quite there.
Heroes, the title track is just an amazing song. I've always loved that song from Bowie. I'd never heard a lot of these tracks, Black Out is also good. I love Brian Eno as well and I can hear his influences for sure on Moss Garden and Neokoln. Definitely a strong 4 for me.
I listened to 90% of this and pretty impressed with it as it's a solid 4 star album for me. Some really great musicians in this album, though Bowie's voice seemed to have more limited range but that's understandable since he was in his 60s. Overall really pretty good.
I do love The Cure, especially the later 80s and 90s albums. I'd never heard this one before from 1980, overall a pretty decent mood and some experimental sounds going on that I enjoyed. I think a 3.
Kind of reminded me of a slowed down Dandy Warhols maybe? Overall not too bad for me.
There was some fun things on this album but overall a 2 for me and not too memorable.
I'm just not in the mood for this today, the vocal harmony is really good but I'm going with a 2 for now.
This was a pretty fun album that I enjoyed, I had heard Stupid Girl before, it's probably used in a movie or TV show at somepoint. Overall I thought it was pretty solid 90s rock and maybe a 4 star album and I'd recommend it to my kid.
This was pretty iconic. I never thought I was a Black Sabbath person, I'd always dismissed them and Ozzy. It turns out this is just my speed. 5 star.
Automatic 5 star album for me. I own this on CD and love "That Lady"
I have this on CD from back in the day. It was hugely popular when I was younger but I'd go with an overall 3 now.
Overall pretty good, Sick Things was really pretty cool and Unfinished Sweet (minus the drilling sounds) and I've heard No More Mr Nice Guy of course. Overall a pretty good 4 star. Reminds me of Frank Zappa and maybe Sensational Alex Harvey Band?
This was an interesting blend of kind of punk and rock from 2009 that I'd never heard of before. It did start to get a bit repetitive for me but it was overall a decent 3 star album.
Nothing really standing out here for me as interesting. 2 star, it's not bad but not holding my interest.
Was not a fan of this, there were only some moments of 2 star quality for me but overall a 1
I love this album and have it on CD. I played the heck out of this and really thought this was a heavier sounding U2 that I really enjoyed. 5 stars for me
Undoubtedly a great singer, just not really excited about this 1980s smoothness here. 2 stars
I loved this, even the crazy weird moaning and Halloween like screaming of it. I had never heard of CAN before but I will be listening to this again here shortly. I loved the grooves of this, especially Halleluhwah and Paperhouse. 5 stars for me.
This was just alright for me, I think it would have been a 3 if it weren't for the vocals that I really didn't care for. I listened to about 2/3 of the album and gave up. 2 star
"I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man" and "You've Got The Look" are pretty good but overall I'm not excited about this album beyond a 2 for me. I do enjoy the earlier popular radio play songs that Prince did earlier than this work.
This was really great! I had never heard this artist before and really liked the sound
A 5 star famous album. I had skipped around this to the more popular tracks that I had heard before.
I've seen the movie on VHS, and my friends and I snuck into the theater underage to see it playing at my local theater in the 90s. I own this as CD #1 in my collection and listened to this many, many times. It has been a while since I've listened to it again, but this is an automatic 5 star listen for me, brought back a lot of memories.
I'd never heard this really early Miles Davis before, but I'm really familiar with Kind of Blue, Bitches Brew, etc. This was really matching my mood today but was too short! Overall 5 stars for sure
Never heard of them before or of this genre of 'sophisti-pop' Overall really enjoyed most of this album, it was a wild ride of styles though. Overall a 4 star I think.
Not for me today. It's a trashy, noisy cacophony.
I had never heard this album. I've heard Imagine of course, and Oh Yoko. I really liked Oh My Love as well, a good 4 star album for me that I may come back to
Wow I had never listened to Adele before, definitely a great voice and catchy and emotional tracks. I'm not sure I'll go and seek out more Adele, but a solid 4 star album for me.
Really interesting and enjoyable, I was a Björk fan in the 90s and early 2000's but haven't revisited any of her more recent albums. Definitely liked this, at 4 stars. My favorite was Post in '95
Kind of a high energy Brit-pop, and grungier. I've never heard it before but it was a good listen today. So far maybe 4 star?
Pretty alright, dance music with Madonna's singing. A 3 star overall for me.
I thought this was pretty interesting, I have his Sea Change album from 2002 and this was a bit edgier and different in a good way, overall happy with it and a good 4 star album.
"The Weekend Starts Here" and "Song For Lindy" are really awesome so far. "Everbody needs a 303", "Give The Po' Man a Break" also good. Overall a 3 though for me.
Overall pretty good listen but did not match my mood today, I'm pretty sure I've heard one of these songs before. Salsa isn't my fav genre but overall a solid 3 for me today.
Well this was really good, it matched my mood for the day pretty well actually! I love this kind of sound, and some of it reminded me of a few Aphex Twin albums I own. Overall really good, and I'll revisit this sometime I know. 5 stars from me.
I've been meaning to listen to more Soundgarden, having missed them in the 90s. Overall a really solid 4 star album, some really good tracks on here, and Black Hole Sun was just super popular I remember and had heard it a lot before, also Spoonman too.
I was very surprised at this. I just absolutely could not get into Murder Ballads, my only Nick Cave listening experience before so I was going into this double album with some bias, but it was really really good. I went all the way to 5 stars on this one. I'll be listening again, don't let Murder Ballads turn you away from this one!
I'm at a 3 here, it was pretty easy listening today and blended into the background but I couldn't really pick out anything that caught my attention. Not bad, but pretty average for me.
Well I like glam rock, and I like a little punk. But this combo here doesn't really work for me and going with a 2.
I really do enjoy New Order going back a long time. I've heard probably 3/4ths of these songs from the Substance 2 disc compilation that I've got.
I do enjoy this but I think I prefer the movie's soundtrack to the studio album
5 stars, I really like the last track "I can't give everything away" and "Lazarus". Really sad to learn he passed away only 2 days after this album was released :'(
Much heavier and darker than the PJ Harvey I'm familiar with in the later 90's and 2000s. Overall a 3 but not something I'll really come back to.
This was great. I really enjoy Fela Kuti's music and didn't know his son was a musician too and this is also really good. Definitely 5 stars for me.
Pretty good, she has a great voice for sure and some of these I've heard before. Overall a 3 for me
Pretty great. Definitely a genius and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. 5 stars.
This was pretty interesting, I recognized the first track and reading about the band on wikipedia read about their initial bassist, Richard Hell, that I own a CD of. Good 4 star album for me.
Really good, I have never listened to Count Basie before and enjoyed it, overall a 4 star album for me.
Not my favorite for sure, and I really disliked their version of "Under the Boardwalk" but a 2 star album for me.
5 stars. Really enjoy Fela Kuti, and only a few days ago learned about his son Fema Kuti and his album. This is definitely an iconic album.
Never been a 80's MTV era ZZ Top fan. I know their popular hits of that time and can remember some of the videos but not for me. I had never listened to earlier ZZ Top before because I never liked them in 80's, but Tres Hombres is great. I had listened to that as part of the album challenge a few months ago and really enjoyed earlier ZZ Top; just not 1980's MTV ZZ Top.
Kind of like a grungy punk with horns? Not my jive today, at 1 star
This album was really quite unique and really weird at times. I had never heard 10cc before that I know of. There was such a wide range of styles here, almost proggy rock and then some approaching countryish towards the end? Not unpleasant for sure, I think I'll listen again and look for more 10cc in the future so I think that makes this a 4 star album.
I'm impressed enough with it for a 4, which is really unusual for me since I've avoided most hiphop in my music listening. It's got really high energy and great samples, plus poignant lyrics that must have been hugely influential in 1988. Flava Fav was kind of cringeworthy most of the time though. I went back and revisited "Bring The Noise", "Black Steel In The Hour of Chaos", "Caught, Can We Get A Witness" and I really liked the harder rock of "She Watch Channel Zero?!"
I knew so many of these songs and didn't realize that I enjoyed them until I listened to this. Pretty easy 5 star album of recognizable hits.
Wow so funky! This was a really fun trip and I really enjoyed about 90% of this, the last few tracks were crazy noise. Overall a solid album
This was interesting, I really like the retro synth sound of this and I went back to listen to a few tracks on headphones for a better experience. Whenever I have to do that to an album, I ratchet up a star! 4 stars for me.
Meh, on this. I do like 80s electronica but this was not very memorable for me. 2 stars
Overall pretty good! I really like the funky samples and instruments like flutes and things in it. Overall a decent 4 star album, another surprise for me for a hip hop album, not really being a hip hop listener.
Well this was a great live album, with a ton of hits and tons of energy. I really enjoyed this one, I haven't revisited The Who in a long time but glad I listened to this.
Insta-5 star for me. I love this album and it was my first cassette tape of Rush that I got from a friend. Side A of the cassette was all of 2112 and I would listen to side A all the time and rewind it, skipping side B a lot. Side B is really great as well with Something for Nothing being an amazing song. The whole album is amazing and was my gateway drug to Rush in high-school. To this day I proudly wear my faded black naked-man 2112 T-shirt much to the rolled eyes of my wife and kids.
Photograph is pretty good, and have heard it a bunch before. I remember watching some Def Leppard videos on MTV back in the day, overall pretty solid 4
I'm a fan of later The Cure for sure, but I have never listened to this album. Wasn't my favorite.
Overall pretty good, i'm not a huge jazz fan but I'm a casual jazz listener. I think the 2nd half of the album was more interesting and I'm going to go with a 4 overall
This is better than I thought the Monkees could do for sure. I had heard 1 or 2 of these tracks before, but if I jumped right into the middle of the album without knowing it, I wouldn't have guessed it was the Monkees. 3 star for me.
Overall pretty good and catchy, recognized a lot of these songs and I think the Artist formerly known as Prince was included on some songs? Overall a 3 for me however
Meh, not my favorite REM album, I had never heard this one before. Orange Crush is really good though. 2 stars
Never been a NiN fan, and listening to it was like listening to a horror movie soundtrack. Some bits in here were entertaining, so I'll go with a 2 star.
"All My Friends" is a decent enough song, but not really above a 3 here for this album so far
Angst level of 5 for sure. Definitely respect that she made this when she was only 21, which was about the same age as I was at the time this came out. Pretty much the sound of 90s and Gen Xers. Listening today for the first time years was alright, definitely some cringy moments and overall a 4 I think for me. "You Oughta Know" is pretty great, so many iconic hits on this album.
Overall really great, I've always enjoyed listening to Van Morrison, especially his 1974 live "Too Late To Stop Now" album. This had a few studio versions of tracks I hadn't heard before, only knowing the live performances. I'm probably at a 5 star on this album
I own this on cd and really enjoyed it when it came out. I haven't listened to it again in years and was a pretty solid 4 star album I think
I have this on CD but it's been ages since I've listened to it. I remember enjoying this and it was good to revisit it.
Most of this was 3 stars for me, some pretty annoying vocals and noise but the peaks and valleys evened out to a 3 I suppose.
Love this, own it on CD, and pretty much an automatic 5 stars. (though it sort of slowed down towards the end but the first 1/2 is definitely on fire)
Pretty meh on this. Maybe a 2 star, I was hoping more here
This was alright, I recognized the intro track from a commercial or radio maybe. Maybe a 3, it was kind of a dreamy background music.
This was really good, I had listened to some Tangerine Dream a few times before and this really complimented my focus for this afternoon. I ended up listening to the 2.5 hours 2018 Steve Wilson remastered version of this album and enjoyed it. 4 stars for me.
well that was pretty awesome. some less interesting songs in there like 1959 but the rest was 5 stars for me! I listened to it twice!
A lot of this is new to me, even being a modest Bowie fan. Really good stuff, and a 4 star album for sure but then the remaining tracks at the end brought this to a 5 for me.
