Was planning to re-listen to this today anyways and what do you know it pops up here. The lord works in mysterious ways amen

I almost made it 100 albums without having to give a one star rating, but then here comes Idlewild guns blazing. Or rather guns doing nothing at all. Just no guns.
I’ve always been more of a mezzanine freak but this is good too. However if mezzanine is not on this list I will puke.
My favorite Gainsbourg experience is the video where he gets very emotional by the choir of child Gainsbourg imitators with beards and sunglasses and cigarettes. But this is good too.
My opinions were all over the place while listening to this, but ultimately most of the quieter, moodier tracks were my favorites and the rest really wasn’t doing anything for me. Though shout out to bad liquor which felt so insanely out of place but it kind of rules

Blue Suede Shoes is a rockin tune mama.
Better than Nevermind
take me down to the paradise city
Whew a re-listen but knights of Cyndi Lauper is still the beef of the bunch
Re-listen and feel slightly more positive than years ago but still missing some juice
ehhhh there’s good stuff here but a lot of stuff that I’m not really feeling. Evil is even to make it mine is a nice run of tracks tho
Re-listen from over 10 years ago. Idk liked it better then, it’s slightly better than 3 stars but it’s not 4.
I guess this was a re-listen from 8 years ago, but I didn’t remember it at all. Probably won’t remember this time either, but its good enough to have on
Good beats yeah and an album cover that makes you go hmm
Re-listen from 5 years ago. Still a good experience.
Not sure what fx’s deal is but album overall is GOOD
man I thought I’d like this more but a lot of it just isn’t that interesting to me.
Haven’t heard this since high school but it was among the some of the first albums I listened to. Good to revisit
Alright first five I’m going to give on here, CCR has always been a blind spot for me but this album is real good.
okay frank you got me this is a cozy lil album and you say making whoopee which is cool
I thought this would be the kind of thing I’d like, but it turns out actually no
First listen was two years ago and yepppp still f.u.n.
yeah!
First listen was 10 years ago and yeeeaaahhh boiiiii this still rules
Only being familiar with trout mask replica this is not as zany as I expected but it’s still got plenty of beef in it’s heart
I revisited (ahaaa) this album though I was already very familiar with it. Of course it’s a 5.
This was already one of my favorites so yeah obvs it’s getting a 5
First heard this 6 years ago and it’s still not one of my favorite talking heads albums, but I’m always up for listening to it
Ten years since I first heard this, definitely have grown to enjoy it more and probably will continue to
Love fat of the land so I was excited to check this out and am happy to report it’s great
First heard this four years ago and it is still for my pleasure
I’ve heard this album a billion times already. One of my favorites and of course it gets the big F I VE
Can’t believe it’s been five years since I first heard this, its ggggrrreeeaaat
Never heard of these fellas before now but this is pretty fun and varied. Nothing too spectacular but I’d definitely listen again
Big fan of Sonic youth so I’m happy to see this album wind up in this list. And just look at that lil guy on the cover
Still as great as when it came out
Was planning to re-listen to this today anyways and what do you know it pops up here. The lord works in mysterious ways amen
Hadn’t heard this since I first listened five years ago, and yeah the weirdo goth vibes are still immaculate
Feels like I’m listening to the radio played over the intercom at a supermarket which is sometimes decent but is mostly just wallpaper
Already was a favorite of mine. Can rate easily as masterpiece CREAM
I guess this is meant to be the UK version. Shame there’s no Paint it Black and that Goin Home is in the middle (the track is good tho), but you do get Mothers Little Helper and Out of Time which are a lot better than most of what is here. Also Under My Thumb is so good but those lyrics yeesh
A lot to love here like underrated hidden gem bohemian rhapsody and roger’s car, but also a lot that I think is just pretty good. First heard this album in full 10 years ago and still feel about the same
More like the got an earache project!!!! Jk it’s not bad but it isn’t very interesting either
Feelin like dropping the pressure right about now
Already plenty familiar with this album and yeah it’s Sonic youth
Needs a deluxe edition that includes Neil Cicierega’s “What Is It” as a bonus track
Better than night at the opera and this is not a hill I’m willing to die on. I am just not willing to die please don’t argue with me
Never been crazy about the killers and listening to this in full for the first time did not really sway me. Still feel a little nostalgic for the sound though.
Not sure about picking a compilation album for this but whatever the hives are good
First heard this a couple years ago and it’s only gotten better
Big fan of blur as they were one of the first bands I got really into. This is not my favorite of theirs, even though I do still love it, and obviously it’s an important album in their discography as a transition in their sound.
First heard this ten years ago. I loved it then and it’s only grown on me more.
It’s chooglin time
I am not sure what significance this album has that landed it in this list, but I would have probably never heard of it otherwise and it’s quite good, so thanks list.
This album was one of my starting points that really developed my tastes in music. It’s still a favorite of mine (though Kid A is my #1 Radiohead pick) and yeah obvs 5 big fat hunky stars.
I’ve always been more of a mezzanine freak but this is good too. However if mezzanine is not on this list I will puke.
It’s mostly okay, it does have good highlights but someone needed to tell Mr Elvis to trim it down a bit
Ate a chicken sandwich while listening and felt bad
If anything at least now I’m interested in diving into his back catalogue, though this album wasn’t quite doing it for me.
Crazy coincidence that the first time I heard this album was one year ago on this day. So good and so germfree
My opinions were all over the place while listening to this, but ultimately most of the quieter, moodier tracks were my favorites and the rest really wasn’t doing anything for me. Though shout out to bad liquor which felt so insanely out of place but it kind of rules
my soul is slathered
Insulting to elephants but more people should write songs about going to the zoo
These are some HEFTY 90s vibes but I was still not prepared for soda pop
Great album and common people will always be a banger
I almost made it 100 albums without having to give a one star rating, but then here comes Idlewild guns blazing. Or rather guns doing nothing at all. Just no guns.
África Jorge and Brasil Ben, an unstoppable duo
Not as good as Los Angeles but sure this is enjoyable
I think overall I feel positive about Costello’s work, but I’m just not sure I would ever choose to listen to his albums outside of this list.
I won’t be listening to it again, but I admire it for what it is and at the very least it is offering something interesting even if it’s not really for me.
Very important in that nobody can safely say “we’re halfway there” without being hit with the whoooaaaooohhh
Got Third yesterday and now Dummy today. Decided to just go ahead and listen to the second one as well to complete the journey. Spoiler alert they’re all great
Not totally in love with all of it but this is very much my kind of thing
Very big fan of Beck’s work. I remember Guero being the first album of his I heard and one of the first albums in general I really got into. Overall I prefer quite a few of his other albums over this, however it is still really good and I feel definitely belongs on this list.
Went through a very long phase where Amnesiac was my favorite Radiohead album. Though the more time went on I grew to prefer Kid A and OK Computer, but I still believe Amnesiac has some of their strongest material and my favorite song of theirs, Pyramid Song.
I should’ve been listening to Janet Jackson all this time
Here Come the Rome Plows is one of the greatest things ever recorded
My favorite Gainsbourg experience is the video where he gets very emotional by the choir of child Gainsbourg imitators with beards and sunglasses and cigarettes. But this is good too.
I am pretty sure I’d need to devote a lot more time to this album to fully appreciate it, but I just don’t want to do that.
I had not listened to this in over 10 years and I only vaguely remember that I enjoyed it. After relistening I see now that I really should have revisited it sooner.
There he is
Second album I’ve heard in this list to feature the word choogle. We need to keep up the chooglin
Criminally low rating on this site, the album is MAGICAL and PERFECT
This was a nice surprise. Very chill with some interesting flourishes
I would have liked this more if it was half the length, but I just don’t think its quality justifies it approaching an hour and a half long.
Sounds pretty good for the 1700s
I came across this album pretty early on in my music discovery and I still contend it is one of the best britpop albums innit
We already know it’s perfect cmon
That opening track boy howdy
I’m fine with Lana’s inclusion in the list, but this album was a strange choice when NFR was right there
The guitar work is mwah chefs kiss on the mouth
While still great… not as good as I remember. Maybe it’s just the vibe that so many artists copied after this to a much worse extent has kind of worn on me.
I liked it pretty well when it dropped but I found revisiting it to be kind of a slog outside of a few highlights.
I had not listened to this nor Funeral in full in over a decade. I’ve always liked Neon Bible, but after revisiting both albums I gotta say I like Neon Bible more. At the very least it deserves the same positive reception that Funeral has always gotten.
I gotta hand it to them, I don’t like this at all
They were really cooking on mother
When he says he just wants someone to do love to I cry evertim
Happy to see PJ Harvey on the list and of course this album rules
Okay but what is a wonderwall
My opinion hasn’t changed much since this came out. It’s very pretty and I do think has moments of greatness, but I can’t survive on just the vibes for the hour runtime.
Whew that opening track is a nice sweaty bop
My favorite of the Radioheads and just a favorite in general. It captures such a uniquely alien and beautiful sound that I never get tired of hearing
I like when the audience goes AAAH
I don’t even disagree but repeatedly singing “I’m such a good rapper” is very funny to me
Yeah I mean it’s great and all but where is the bossanova????
I’ve always loved this album and am very happy to see it here, it’s so cozy and charmingly ramshackle in a way that you just don’t hear very often
I do enjoy some drum and bass, and I was good with this album being on for the first hour, but another hour of it proved to be too much for me. Even just as background music I don’t think there are any circumstances where I’d want to hear this for over two hours. I don’t think any of it is bad, just exhausting as an album experience.
We’re often forgiving of men with unconventional voices, and I don’t feel like we extend that same generosity to women quite as much. I know some people won’t like this album just because of the vocals, but Alanis’ vocals are what’s keeping this above just being average to me. Also it’s like 10,000 spooooons
I enjoy some vanilla but this is aggressive
A very good album that seems like it’d be exactly what I want, but I’ve always struggled to truly love it. Still happy to see the band made it on this list though.
Chan Chan, now that’s a song
My favorite Elliott Smith and an overall favorite album in general.
Did they forget to write endings to these songs
A nice surprise, has some really good stuff even if I’m not completely into the whole album
A bit bloated and not quite as good as what was to come, but still has some great material
The title track may be the best thing Kraftwerk has done. And they’ve done a lot of great things.
A bit of a mixed bag but they are still way cooler than I am
ooh rah babopdumalamama growl ooh rah babopdumalamama
It’s okay if you don’t like this but also not really
I think this is pretty underrated. I don’t know that I’d include it in this list, but I’m not at all on board with the complaints of it being boring.
she’s so silly
Somehow I crossed paths with Dry the Rain a long time ago and have always loved it. I wish I loved this album the same way, but who knows, maybe it’ll grow on me.
I’ve always enjoyed Slow Burn, but as a whole this type of country pop just isn’t very appealing to me
This cover is an actual photo of me listening to the cars while speeding through a red light
boingcore
overlong but yeah I get it’s inclusion.
I think we could solve a lot of the worlds problems if we just listened to more abba
love the vocals but half the songs don’t do much for me
I can’t take this level of sentimentality for the entire runtime and every chorus is just longingly wailing the title of the song over and over
Not in love with it, but it’s pretty easy to get absorbed in the vibe and there are enough interesting choices
A top ten of all time, of course it belongs here
A very strong argument for the inclusion of live albums. And overkill is nuts
Should have been toxicity but still an insanely strong debut with iconic vocals
If I ask someone for the time and they give me that nonsense I’m gonna bop em into last week
That is too many people to imagine
Yeah I don’t know about this one. It’s not bad and it does have its charm, but it doesn’t really feel like a fully realized effort. Maybe I’m Amazed is great though
As a longtime fan of Pink Moon I’ve always meant to listen to Nick Drake’s other work and it just never happened, so I am very grateful this list has finally forced it upon me. Real good stuff
When I was a teenager I hated AC/DC because I guess I hated fun or something. Now that I’ve sat through a whole album I’m still not in love with it, but past me needed to chill out
I am not sure I’d put any Dandy Warhols albums in this list, but if I did it’d be Thirteen Tales. I like them well enough, but I’m more drawn to individual songs rather than the full albums, which tend to run longer than they need to.
Speaking craniums
Goofy album cover but perhaps best Iron Maiden album?
Nilsson recorded Without You and Schmilsson decided to put Coconut right after it
Odelay and Midnite Vultures are two of my favorite albums of all time, so I’m very glad this one made it into the list. Extremely creative blend of sounds and styles
Not gonna start a commotion or rattle any snakes over it, but pretty enjoyable
I enjoyed Gasoline Alley but this is quite a step up
(Moving out of earshot of the swifities) I’m not really into Taylor’s brand of pop music but (back into earshot) this is (back out) decently (back in) good
Wilco’s best album and one of the greatest albums of all time. 100% should be in this list. The ending to Poor Places is one of my favorite moments in a song in general.
Obviously familiar with their hits and like them well enough but turns out the whole album is bangin
So that’s what it’s called
Japan has been on my radar for a while now (the country too, what are they up to over there in the ocean) and now finally listening I was surprised to learn this was not the 80s. And it’s good!!!
Last track makes me want to flail around on the ground
Despite this being a HEFTY listen, I do think it’s my favorite of the solo Beatles albums I’ve heard.
Not a sentiment I normally agree with but war rules
I never know what modern releases will end up here but this one is definitely deserved. Depending on my mood I could pick this or GKMC but I do think both qualify as must-listens based on cultural significance and quality
I was not expecting an 80s jump scare among Cohen’s discography, but when jazz police came on I was more on board with this as a strange detour from the cohen I’ve been used to
My first thought was why does he look like a Goldeneye character. Then my next thought was hey it’s the song from New Vegas. This is an album for true gamers, which I think is what Marty intended
Driving to the mall blasting shopping on repeat. This is what the lord wanted for humans but instead we’ve decided to drink prime energy and vape blueberry flavored gas to morgan wallen
Just imagine commercials for Grindr that play the chorus to Grinder. That’d be rad
This is the music equivalent of The British putting beans all over their food
Love when she says oughtn’t
Yass king
America elected Obama just to spite Morrissey
After The Paris Match I thought hmm okay maybe there’s something to this thing, and then Gospel happened and I changed my mind
Absolutely nuts that she was 18 when making this album. When I was 18 I was trying coco puffs mixed in coffee (not good btw)
Been a longtime residents fan and am surprised to see them here, and also not surprised to see the ratings. I fully support a band making bizarro music whether it’s an artistic statement or just for the hell of it, and even though I understand most people probably won’t tolerate this I do think the residents make very interesting albums that dare I say are enjoyable
Started off listening to the 30th anniversary version that’s on streaming but then learned it is actually a re-recording. Which I found to be a big relief because the original version has a much more intimate sound that I much prefer. I was not vibing with the more sterile sounding re-recording and I was not on board with the kissing sounds on hello my baby. I recommend seeking out the original for this listen
Demon Days and Plastic Beach would be my picks, but this is a very good debut
I heard this probably ten years ago and didn’t think much of it at the time. What is wrong with me? It rips and I’m stupid
I like the instrumentation, but the whole thing kind of just washes over me with no real desire to return to it. Except wolf of velvet fortune is pretty sick.
First time revisiting since it released. I wasn’t super impressed at the time, and I mostly feel the same way now. Though overall I’d say listening was a slightly more positive experience this time around
I’ve been courted and sparked
Going dingdingalingdangdong has never sounded cooler
Get real this rules
Sorry Sheryl I am busy Tuesday nights
It’s good, but doesn’t grab me as much as the other Yes albums I’ve heard
Not quite sure what to make of this. I don’t really think this works as live album, nor as an adaptation of classical music, nor as a must listen. I can’t say I really disliked it, but it feels kind of cheap and silly in a not so endearing way a lot of the time
WOW never heard of this before but it really held my attention. Such good performances all around.
Some of the production sounds a bit too much like the type of 80s soft pop that I do not like, but the songwriting is there and Chapman is so good
Like many hip hop projects from the 90s this probably should have been trimmed down. But killer album regardless
As someone who never really listened to U2 prior to this project I was interested in hearing what is considered one of their best after having a terrible experience with All That You Can’t Leave Behind. However now that I’ve also heard Achtung Baby I’m not so sure that I’m going to connect with U2. This was a better experience but still not one I really enjoyed.
A real head scratcher for sure. There are a few good tracks but what on earth were they thinking with some of the vocal effects and instrumentation. Definitely not their best effort
Happy to see Sebadoh here, such a fun album
I know this is not a popular opinion but I’ve never felt this album is the masterpiece many people say it is. It’s very ambitious and does have some great tracks, but I still feel like his earlier work is stronger
Been a very long time since I last heard this, so I was due for a revisit. Turns out it’s still great!
Does the vocalist know he doesn’t always have to make sounds
Not being familiar with this album caused some whiplash from seeing that album cover to then starting the first track. I didn’t know they could be punk in the 50s
Nothing about this really strikes me as bad, but I was terribly uninterested for the most part
A truly unique album that I think is Nick Cave’s best. It is disturbing, beautiful, funny, with some killer performances and storytelling. Stagger Lee and Curse of Milhaven both go so hard
The last leg of this album is insanely strong, but I just don’t really love the first half that much
To go from Ray of Light to this is quite a step down. It’s fine for the most part, but not her strongest effort
This is enjoyable, but is a Bollywood soundtrack really the most representative album choice? Even the Wikipedia excerpt is just about the movie, which itself is apparently partly an American production. I’m glad other countries outside of UK/US are included here but there are other Indian albums that I prefer over this. I think the beginning and final tracks are particularly strong, but I sort of lost interest towards the middle.
baby mash potato do the alligator
I appreciate what this is going for, but I really don’t think it succeeds all that often. The more atmospheric touches just feel kind of tacked on and not all that creative
For an album with this amount of energy I did not feel very excited or interested in what they put together
I had listened to several albums by this band many years ago, and I think it is telling that I didn’t remember any songs. This is bland, and that’s coming from someone who generally likes britpop. I guess I should revisit a couple of their other albums to see if anything reminds me of why I listened to them in the first place, but it’s not looking promising
Enjoyable, but it’s hard to get over the big question: why on earth was this picked over Zen Arcade???
Real good stuff. The ox is wild
A very good inclusion for this list, you can’t think of essential 2000s indie without this album. They’ve had their hits worm their way into the mainstream though I’d still consider them under appreciated. I prefer Congratulations and Little Dark Age, but this album is full of bangers and is also quite comforting to me
A very nice surprise. I was not familiar with Robert Wyatt but now I’m interested to see what else he’s done. This was a very interesting listen, lots of creative choices going on
Always loved this album, glad that it got included
Love to see Justice here, this album goes hard and I still haven’t heard anything that sounds quite like this
Fantastic debut. Catchy with lyrics that still resonate
Way too long and not what I’d call good, but it can be silly fun at times. And shoutout to ben stiller
For a 2019 album I was surprised that I had never even heard of the artist. But wow this is good, and I’m pleased to see the rating average on here is so high. I can’t speak for cultural significance but this is definitely a good modern pick based on its quality
Normally I’m into sillier lyrics, but these are just so corny and delivered in such a sleepy way that I just can’t get into it. Then it’s only worsened by the fact that every song goes on for so long
What a voice, just wish I liked the music more.
Captivating performances and really cool instrumentation throughout. I was already a big fan of Starsailor but clearly I needed to check out his other work
Top tier punk
The queen of noises
It had been a while since I heard this but it’s only gotten better. Insanely high peaks
Quite a comfy album and spies is excellent, but as a whole I’m really only vibing with it and not loving it
Not a Beck album I listen to frequently as I really need to be in the mood for it, but it is incredibly beautiful and among some of his best. Though admittedly I consider most everything prior to The Information as some of his best.
Incredible how they made this using only the sounds of pets
I recognize the talent here and don’t necessarily dislike it, however this is definitely a “it’s not you, it’s me” album
There is a very good album in here, but it’s hidden within a bloated experience. I really enjoy the highlights but they are joined by some midlights
Never really heard anything by ELO outside of the hits, but even for this being over an hour all of it is quite enjoyable
Love Wilco so I was surprised I wasn’t familiar with this album. Fun and beautiful compositions and there’s the interesting angle of all the songs being previously unrecorded Woody Guthrie lyrics. Overall a nice surprise.
People will do anything to see Johnny cash
steven wonderful does it again
Not quite as good as what was to come on Are You Feeling Sinister, but there’s still a lot to like here
Now I’m no jazzmanian devil but this doesn’t strike me as anything special. Pleasant for sure, but not a favorite
No idea what this album’s deal is but it sounds like if a country’s national anthem was an evil rock opera which is pretty cool
The curse of being born with a thom yorke voice is that you’re lucky enough to have a good voice, but you’ll always be labeled a thom yorke knock off. Which I think is unfair because Rufus is doing a lot of cool stuff here
I had heard their last two albums around the time they came out and liked them pretty well but never really returned to the band. This is definitely resonating more than those did, so perhaps I need to do a deep dive
There’s something about this that I find a bit more palatable than a lot of other 80s albums in the same style. I think the singer helps a lot and there are some livelier cuts that keep things from getting too stale
I’m a sucker for this type of 90s lofi slacker rock and am very pleased GBV made it into the list
Always liked sweat loaf but never heard the full album and whew wee it’s nuts
leopointing.gif
There’s a lot to take in here. I was feeling pretty positive about the album in the first half, lots of bops and just generally a fun vibe. But then there’s Nasty Girl which sounds good but the content of the song is questionable. Then the second half of the album slows down. They aren’t doing anything that interesting so it just drags. Then the last track should be a nice sentiment but just makes me feel like I’m in church. Not a total waste of time but there’s too much I could do without.
I was partially satisfied so I suppose they can pat themselves on the back.
I consider myself pretty tolerant because I made it 400 albums without considering anything to be annoying. Then g love showed up
Listened to this on a Monday while happy for a more immersive experience. Maybe I wasn’t happy enough though
This album felt inescapable when it came out and yet I had forgotten it existed until now. I don’t know when the last time I saw any mention of this band, so I think perhaps it was premature to include it here. That said, it is enjoyable, but I never really got into the hype surrounding it.
Despite its length it is quite pleasant the whole way through, I never got tired of it being on and thought more than a few tracks were great
I want to join a dirt band
Double albums are obviously controversial because if you don’t like it then you’ve got a lot to sit through, but Mellon Collie hits for me the whole way through.
Not in love, but I think there’s a lot that is quite good and it did spark some interest in listening to his other work
I don’t hate it, but 80s cheese is really cranked up here. I was into seven more days though
2 scott 2 walker
Yes give me more robert straight into my shleepy veins
Just keep giving me Sonic Youth.
mom would never let me get this wild
~*set me on fire*~
While pleasant at times, I don’t think I love parades as much as she does
I’ve always been aware of the libertines but surprisingly never listened to them despite this being from a genre and period that I was very into. Not surprisingly I enjoyed this a lot
I am not too sure that the final track is strong enough to warrant being more than half the album’s length, even though I do like it. Still, quite a lot to like here.
Yeah I get the rating here, this is an album that really tests the limits of what I’d consider “enjoyable”. I certainly wouldn’t just listen to this album for fun, but I did like the experience. I’d take it over any album that fails to be interesting.
If… is certainly a rollercoaster
A long time favorite of mine 5/5 would get spiritualized
I hadn’t heard this in a very long time because back when I was a LOSER I deemed this too uncool to enjoy. Now that I am smart and beautiful I think it’s pretty good.
Yes it’s very good, but I no longer have any desire to revisit any of his albums
This is pretty average to me, cool sounds but overall not doing anything that other trip hop or psychadelic haven’t done better. 3 EPs is better but I’m not sure I’d say either of these are a must listen even if I had enjoyed them more
Love how there’s a silly song about vegetables shortly followed by an evil instrumental that seems to exist just to induce dread
ooby dooby what more is there to say
