I don't feel I'm giving this album a fair shake before writing the review. The opening number while huge and grand is not catching my ear at this point in time. It feels like, on a possible relisten I would have developed more musical taste to fully appreciate it. However at this time, it's not really doing it for me.
Gigantic! Where is My Mind! Banger of an album. Rock heavy, great listen.
I feel I lack the musical education to truly appreciate this album.
DLZ is catchy, and I'd listen to this album again. However, overall, I'd say its a mid-tier album.
I just do not understand Bowie. I'm trying, but I just don't get the appeal.
I used to slam on Coldplay as their singles just don't do much for me. I will say as a whole the album does stand up and I do get why people enjoy it.
While I was familiar with The Boys Are Back in Town I couldn't have told you who the band was. This album is now in my rotation list. Banger.
Enjoyable listen. Without this its not an album I would have spent any time with.
Feels to much like homework trying to get through it in an attempt to listen to all the albums on this list.
Not sure I am a fan of psychedelic rock. None of it caught my ear, everything felt unsecured to anything and sounded a ton like the Beatles. Not a fan.
While Guitar Town catches my ear the rest of the album ends a bit ho hum for me. While I have historically been a fan of country music the ear worms on this album just don't seem to be there. I won't dispute it's impact or that it's a good album. Just doesn't really hold my attention.
While it has Tainted Love and Where Did Our Love Go I continue to find myself ignoring the rest of the album. If this practice of listening to these albums has taught me anything its that I have way more musical knowledge then I thought but need to spend more time listening deeply.
This album really falls down about half way through. Starts out super strong and then past track 6 just becomes bland pop.
Having never listened to this I can say this album slaps. May become a 5/5 on further re listens.
There is zero way I can be unbiased about this album. I grew up listening to Nirvana in the 90s in Seattle after Cobain died. Anything less then 5 stars would be an insult to younger me.
It's... fine? Listening to it made me think I was listening to a Beatles cover band that was trying some original music.
Most of the album blends together like a rock mess. Veering into one to many solos that ultimately makes this very forgettable for me.
3/10 songs are great, but the rest really drag down the album. I'd rate 1.5 stars if I could.
Most of this album is just so dull.
An album so forgettable I already forgot that I listened to it.
1/7: "I Wanna Be your Dog" - Kind of boring. Just not catching my attention.
2/7: "We Will Fall" is absolutely awful. It just draaaaaags and goes on for 10 minutes basically in a chant. I'm now dreading having to listen to the rest of the album. Not awful in the way I can ignore. Awful in a way that it forces you to pay attention to it and watch the progress bar steadily progress to relief by ending this atrocity.
3/7: "No Fun": This album some how got worse. Is this a torture device employed by the CIA? Is this my life now?
4/7: "Real Cool Time": The names of these are ironic right? Are all of the Stoogies fans suffering from Stockholm syndrome?
5/7: "Ann": My ears are bleeding, there is no end in sight. I am pain. There is no end.
6/7 "Not Right": If play this loud enough I will go deaf and this awful record wills top right?
7/25: "Little Doll": I just realized I clicked on the double disc version of this. To my wife and children I love them, this is my end.
Fine album, nothing grabbed my attention.
Overall pretty forgettable.
This album is a fantastic example of why this process has value. I would have never listened to this album otherwise, and have never heard of the band. Yet I find myself really grooving with it and enjoying the sound despite not understanding the lyrics. Call me a fan.
2/5 - interesting idea that has some neat moments but over all a lack luster entry.
While it has some absolute bangers and is a classic its not one I plan on re-listening to often.
I started this generator to expand my musical education. I was already familiar with Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral before embarking on listening again. I first listened to it in the '90s when I was an angry teenager.
This album fed my soul, it fed my anger. I became defined by it. I was ANGRY at everything. I knew the chorus to Closer wasn't about sex, it was about violence. Violence I wanted to commit on everyone else.
Violence I always just kept to myself. Listening to this album in the dark of my room.
Eventually I grew up. Decades later, I revisit this album. With fresh eyes, and the internet to read up on the album. I learn it's about a " misanthropic man who rebels against humanity, and kills God before attempting suicide."
To borrow from High Fidelity, "Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?"
I may never know.
First listen 2.5/5 - Need to give it another listen to ensure that I gave it a fair shake, but just am not really compelled to do so.
2/5 - While I really want to like this it's really not landing with me. Listening to this album feels like what Bob Dylan must have had on repeat before releasing his first album. I understand why its on the list, just isn't my jam.
3/5 - While I would have loved a reason to listen to You've Come a Long Way, Baby it was a fun ride of hearing the first album released. While I wasn't deeply familiar with the tracks the talent did shine through and reminded me to go dig into his discography again.
While the self titled album was peak Metallica for me, this album goes HARD. It was already 5/5, but I have a deep nostalgia for the album. I'm happy to say it still holds up and to give this album another 5/5.
2.5/5 - Youngs vocal range can be grating and times. Some of the songs are fun, and worth re-listening to. I can see why fans of his music would probably flock to this album in particular, but to my particular taste, its just.... Fine?
2.5 - Overall forgettable.
Beats were nice, groove was good. Would listen to again.
2/5 - This may be teaching me that I'm not the biggest fan of prog rock. This was... Fine? No real interest in listening to it again.
3.5/5 - Having listened to loads of '90s country I can hear the influences this album would have had on shaping music that came after it. Overall an enjoyable album and while I wouldn't mind listening to it again, likely not one I would go out of my way to listen to again.
4/5 - While I don't speak the language I have a hard time hearing lyrics in hip hop. As such lyrically it blended into the beat and became a wall of interesting sound and texture. An album I would seriously consider revisiting.
3/5 - Not a huge fan of synth pop, and can't say I would have loved this more if I listened to it when it was newer, but an enjoyable listen with a number of banger singles.
Immigrant Song carries this album hard, but I'd be remiss if I didn't recognize this as a banger of an album.
I can see why folks could like this album, there are sparks of greatness that just never quite deliver. I keep wanting to get into a song, and then it veers away meandering off into the night.
I never considered myself a fan of reggae, but this was a surprising enjoyable album.
Heart of Gold and Old Man really carry this album but I found it to be really an enjoyable listen.
An enjoyable listen that drags on the final track with Kanye telling a story over the beat on the end track. The skits are funny, but would be irritating on repeat listening.
5/5 - While a huge fan of Hurt when this came out I don't know I've ever really given this album its due. It's fantastic. The covers are exceptional. And the final song "We'll Meet Again" when taken in the context of this being his last album is tragic. Amazing record.
4/5 - Enjoyable listen with a few songs that I recognize and enjoy.
3.5/5 - while I dont love the rap style it was an enjoyable listen that if I were to find on rotation more frequently I would deepen my enjoyment of the album
2/5 - While I see why this record is on the list, it really didn't do much for me. It just seemed lack luster, and meandering with nothing really grabbing my attention.
3/5 - Enjoyable metal, would listen to again but nothing really stood out to my ear.
2.5/3 - I can't tell if I was just not in the mood for disco today, or if this album just wasn't my jam. While it has some fantastic tracks, We are Family, He's the Greatest Dancer being standouts, this one just wasn't pulling on my ear.
2/5 - While I recognize Brass in Pocket I can't say I'm a fan of this album. I find it rather bland.
3/5 - Fun live album to listen to.
