It is less compelling without the visual element for me, the music is cohesive but feels one note for me when trying to listen while doing something else - it really requires my full attention to pick up all the different things going on. The underture is where it got going in this listen.
Very 90s, not in a bad way but you can hear their influence on lots of things that came after. The vocals are sparse but that feels purposeful, can feel same-y after awhile but as a result is very cohesive.
The guitar playing is sick for sure, cannot be denied but not my scene. So screamyyyy.
Hadn't listened to this in a long time but really enjoyed the back half of the 'complete' recordings with stuff I hadn't heard before. South Side and Bodyrock remain favorites. 3/5
A master at work. Foxy Lady, Purple Haze, and Fire all still sound amazing. 4/5
My first favorite Beck album, reminds you of what heartbreak really feels like.
Have never been a big stones gal but I’m starting to understand
I like so many CCR songs and I didn’t realize how stacked this album was. So many jams.
Pretty forgettable, not bad but the Americana inflected, white guy rock is not doing much for me
Blue suede shoes is obviously a classic but a lot of the other songs don’t yet have his distinct vocal performance
So great, Sunday Bloody Sunday kicks it off perfectly and I love the guitar instrumentation
This album is shockingly good. I only knew Lovefool but this whole album is really solid and has a lot of great songs.
A classic, can't be denied. Their best album in my opinion.
It reminds me a ton of oasis but it seems like these fellas were first? Catchy tho, I like the opener and the guitar instrumentation.
Starts off pretty scream-y before going into some stone cold classics. Heart shaped box, all apologies, dumb, rape me are all-time favorites.
This is a great album. I can hear how much of an influence on Prince he is through some of the early tracks. Short but effective.
I really liked this album (outside of the most egregiously misogynistic parts) esp come clean and jungle music.
Not as impactful as when I first heard it but the guitar parts are better than I remember and I appreciate politically overt music when people often are scared to say something inflammatory
I know people love this band but I’ve just never been able to figure them out. The whole album is so glum (except for heavy metal drummer)
Judy blue eyes would honestly be enough to give this 5 stars. It’s such a gorgeous album, I never get sick of it.
I’m not really a bossanova person, it’s not bad it just doesn’t really do anything for me
It’s tough bc the album is good but wow the misogyny hits harder as an adult.
This album is beloved but I feel like it’s never been a massive favorite of mine, though I enjoyed it more this listen and his version of Hallelujah is my favorite. Also def noticed the influence on Thom Yorke.
Brilliant album, I'm always impressed by Lauryn Hill, she can do it all and has such a unique flow
Not my favorite Beatles album and the first disc is superior (except for Helter Skelter) but it’s still objectively awesome
Not particularly memorable or remarkable for me
I’ve just never been able to really get into this band. I find it to be kind of a snoozefest.
Kind of overwrought and dramatic, a few good songs but not what I know and love (or expect) of The Bee Gees, sounded kind of Beatles-y/John Lennon in parts
Not really my jam, I can hear how influential it is and I like the cover of "Be Thankful for What You've Got"
Fell in love with a girl is still great and you can see the seeds of their future greatness
Common people is obviously well known and reasonably catchy but the rest is kind of a snooze for me
I liked it more than I expected to, can def hear the Bowie influence
First exposure to maiden, liked it more than I expected, the guitars are incredible
It’s ok, not really my jam. A little screechy/dissonant at times
Not bad but kind of forgettable, would rather listen to the Byrds
Didn’t realize how many versions of classic Christmas songs were from this album specifically, Phil Spector is scary but the songs are good
It’s just so good, Ice cube was so ferocious and the production is really good
I only knew the singles but I really like this album, will def return to it
I love the Killing Moon so much but the rest of the album bled together a bit, I think I will like it more on repeated listens.
Epic, Karen O is a true rock star.
This is nice but not really my thing
I can tell this is objectively good, I just am not a jazz lover. Certain screechy horn sounds make me feel violent.
I prefer pink moon but I liked it
I liked this, never listened to much nick cave before
This album is so good, their music always sounds kind of timeless bc it doesn’t chase trends and Sade’s voice is so ethereal and otherworldly.
Ya know I’ve just never been able to properly get into the dead. It’s good but doesn’t hit me where I live.
Not my bag, I liked the purely instrumental tracks but I can’t handle two hours of this.
I just can’t get into them. I think the vocal and musical delivery are too similar or something, I find it boring, nothing hooks me.
They had such a clear perspective right out of the gate. Obviously they would go on to do more sophisticated albums but this is great
Never got that into the eagles beyond knowing a few songs and of course the title track. Not really my bag
I liked this more than I expected because I’ve never been able to get into Roxy music.
What a way to start. Kind of tapers off for me tho and the last song was a bit sus.
Good to finally learn where the Jackass theme came from
She has a great voice but not my thing
This shouldn’t work but I loved this album. A mix of so many strange things and very 80s but I dig it.
Perfection. All time fav.
I love this band and I love this album, can’t believe it’s been 20 years
Presence of Janie’s got a gun and love in an elevator elevate it slightly. Liked the closing track too.
Not my favorite Cure album lyrically but I love the atmosphere
Lovely, beautiful album. What a body of work.
All along the watchtower makes it essential
I love Elvis Costello and this is an epic debut.
Genius. Perfection. Brilliance.
Finally found an Eno (solo) album I like, really enjoyed it more than I expected
I can understand why it’s interesting, unfortunately that didn’t cause me to enjoy it
Just ok to me, but has a few songs I remember fondly (sparks, shiver)
Spectacular sounding. I love Linda Rondstadt’s vocals
Isn’t really grabbing me…
I really enjoyed this more than I anticipated I would, I didn’t know the band well but had been exposed to samples and stuff. Very cool, I loved the big, atmospheric, swelling nature of the songs
GOD TIER album. And she was 19! It’s been in my rotation for 30 (gasp) years and it holds up. Sleep to dream, shadowboxer, and, of course, Criminal. Brilliant record.
I liked it more than I expected to, the drums are so good.
Not my favorite Otis songs (other than "I've Been Loving You Too Long") but his voice is so amazing, so evocative. Always cuts through.
Brilliant. Not my fav clash album but such good driving guitars and incredible drums
Kind of a tough one, I liked the music for the most part but stuff that probably played as subversive at the time (jump scare use of the n word) is kind of exhausting now.
Just ok for me, might need another listen
I can’t get over how much I dislike the lead singer’s voice. Kind of atonal Bowie or more theatrical David Byrne or something. The music I would probably enjoy if I weren’t so distracted.
It’s between a 4/5 for me but there are so many classic songs that I love. Brings together all my favorite aspects of punk, reggae, r&b
Pretty dang good. I love “America” so much. A perfect song to me
This didn’t age super well for me but I liked it when it came out. Still like Revelry.
I hated this slightly less than I typically hate tom waits
Hate hate hate. This all just made me feel violent. Idk what this did to my brain but it was bad.
I just think this is one of the greatest albums ever. So many incredible and off the wall songs (from if I was your girlfriend to starfish and coffee to adore). My favorite Prince album and arguably his best.
I really loved the first half and then it fell off a bit for me but she has so much raw talent. You see it honed and sharpened in her brilliant follow up album.
It’s almost a 5, really great album, cohesive vibe, songs that are still popular.
Kinda boring, maybe need another listen.
I liked this way more than I expected to
Not really my thing, I liked the disco opening track
Not really my thing but it was kind of interesting
I more appreciate everything this album unlocked rather than loving it outright. Ian Curtis’ voice is a little tough for me by the end, but I love Disorder
It started off ok but some of the disparate sounds and weird wailing started to get to me, I never got into them as a band in earnest
I liked it, interesting to think about the timing of this with the Beatles and stones
I don’t love the lead singer’s voice, it’s kind of thin to me, and the songs all started to sound the same. The guitar parts were great tho.
Has one hit on it, otherwise not bad, I have a soft spot for Americana (with pretty fly for a white guy on it) but this was fun
I love this album, it’s so comforting and precise. A really beautiful work
My mom loves Billie Holiday and I’ve never really just sat with one of her albums and I really enjoyed this. So emotive, so sad. Idk that I will return to it often but I was moved
Great album like 3 stone cold classics
This is kind of a vibe, I had this album in high school and kind of forgot about it but I enjoyed on this re-listen
Not particularly memorable for me, sometimes the music/guitar reminded me of U2 but with much worse singing. Kind of a “whatever” for me
Man. I love this album. This is my favorite over Blonde, pyramids I think is one of the best songs of the 2000s easy, love the way it brought r&b back into the pop music conversation. So much to enjoy.
Not my fav Bowie album but still great. Golden Years is forever in my rotation
Two songs that I know and like are on here and I had no idea of the titles. But I enjoyed it.
I forgot how many great songs are on this album, a classic like almost every song is great
So many hits and my favorite post Beatles McCartney effort
It was pleasant enough but I don’t see myself revisiting songs beyond the delightful Waterloo sunset
