Navy: bedankt voor de nieuwe stim. Boy that sounds swell!
On the surface: funky ringtone
Dub housing:
Caligari housing: what is happening?
Thriller: it certainly is a song?
(Pa) Ubu dance party: slaps
Overall: strange but interesting. Niet een album wat ik ooit nog een keer zou willen luisteren behalve misschien bepaalde nummers als ik in een goblin bui ben. Als artistieke expressie geef ik het een 4
Dad metal hell yeah.
It slaps
One nitpick I have is that all metallica songs in general sound mostly the same to me including this album. That sounds is good, but I don't see why I would add more than 2 metallica songs to any playlist of mine.
Not an album I would put on again probably or would specifically recommend, but good music nonetheless.

Strong country and folk inspirations, which admittedly are not my cup of tea. I do appreciate the blues rock on "since I've been loving you". I liked the first half, but from gallows pole onward the country/folk influences take over and I started nodding off. I don't think the singers voice really fits this more quiet style of music
I'd give the first half a 4.5 and the second half a 2.5. overall that rounds out to a 3.5. Because i dislike albums that arent cohesive in quality I'll go with a 3. However, I have found some new songs I am adding to my catalogue.
In the past I've really tried to like Bowie, but I just kinda don't? Something in his music doesn't click with me. Individual songs have parts I like, but they often feel like they kind of drag. I appreciate him as an artist. He has a strong artistic vision and he is daring in his sound. However it just isn't my cup of tea.
Fav: Let's spend the night together.
Worst: Aladdin Sane
I don't care for the beatles. I generally think they're mid. I was thus expecting to give this album a 1 or 2 at best.
I was pleasantly surprised by a few songs, but most were forgettable as I expected. The kind of songs you put on and forget you are listening to after a few minutes.
Favs: Octopus' garden, I want you so heavy & the End.
Not always good, but always interesting.
I don't often hear Indian influences in music so this was actually refreshing
I don't like when albums have track with just some noise like "when the noise appears boy", but other than that I enjoyed it.
Would give it a 3.7/10, but I'll round it up to a 4
Perhaps the best album of the 1001 albums at this point. It sounds timeless yet it is also a pure distillation of 80s synth music, yet again somehow made before the 80's. I can only imagine how influential this album must have been.
An artist I've never heard of before, although I did recognize some tracks from general exposure to the internet. Definitely an album I am adding to my rotation.
Not a perfect album, it can be a little repetitive at times, but that gives you move opportunity to keep listening to the catchy beats. It does kind of drag near the end als the energy dips during "conversation", but then it picks up again during "Cars". (Kachow)
I'll grant it the first 5/5
Sounds like a soundtrack to a 80s/90s movie set in a small village. This means it is both good in capturing a particular vibe, but also kind of falls to the background.
I don't really like the singers voice, it sounds too much like whining to me, especially when the subject matter is so dire such as in the titular song. No particular song stands out to me, although everyone of them was at least okay. If I had to choose a favourite it would be "nowhere fast".
Fine music to have on in the background while you're drinking a beer in the pub, but that's about it.
2.5
Fela Kuti is a legend for a reason.
The only gripe I have with this album is that I wasn't alive to see this played live and now I'll have to carry that burden of knowing that for the rest of my life.
Interesting and punky. I can see how this has influenced punk of even today. Courtney Love has a powerful raw voice that is really unique.
3.5
One day this man will die and I will shed tears.
Very good record, although I prefer songs in the key of life. Never listened to this one back to back and I am thankful for the experience
4.5
Very interesting and unique record. Energetic, entertaining and exciting.
Definitely will add songs like: "this town aint big enough for both of us" & "amateur hour" to my playlists.
Solid 4
Did not expect too much of it but ended up liking it! The bass is funky and stanky and the drums sharp and clear.
Favourites are It's "Regatta De Blanc", "alright for you" & "does everyone stare". The latter has a bit of a buildup, but sounds like a joy near the end.
I don't particularly like the slower songs like "The Bed's Too Big Without You" & "Walking on the moon".
Overall I'd give it a weak 4. It definitely has soms song I will he revisiting, but also some I will probably never give another thought again.
Beautiful, but boring music with very personal lyrics. Joni does some interesting progressions I didnt see coming.
Still, singer/songwriter music without basically any instrumentation isn't my cup of tea. I'd like to give it a higher score, but I was mostly just bored during the songs.
Fantastic progrock. Energetic opening and the energy just keeps rolling until the end. It's artistic, sometimes bordering snobby but always entertaining. It combines influence of rock, metal, some latin and even some jazz. True progrock that I will definitely listen to again.
It's a concept album, meaning it tells a story. I am a sucker for concept albums and I tend to listen to them repeatedly front to back. The songwriters use words that sometimes sound like nonsense, but I feel are used to drum up images more than to be interpreted literally. On the surface the albums meaning could be just "drugs are cool". However the imagery is trippy and horrific. It feels more like an alien abduction than a psychedelic trip. The album is based on a story of the bandmembers and is made more poignant as one of the bandmembers died to a drug overdose shortly after the release of this song. My interpretation is therefore a person trying to imagine and depict in fantastical terms how a persons last moments might have been as they slip into nothingness. Heavy stuff.
No skips or songs I disliked. Although Cicatriz Esp has that progrock thing where they play strange sounds for an entire minute, which I am not a fan of. A strong 4.5, although I can understand it's not everyones cup of tea.
This album is very special. I liked the first few songs but halfway through I got kinda bored. "Electricity" picks up some steam again, but most of the momentum is soon lost during "the individual" which is just noise. "No God Only Religion" was very interesting again however, although a little too long for my taste
Overall I'd give it 7. There are definitely songs I will come back to, but as an album it is far from perfect.
Really interesting trippy dark ambient music. Some parts were really cool, but others would drag and be too experimental for my tastes. Still I appreciate daring artistic choices.
6.5
Dark, disjointed and grunge. Sounds like it was recorded in a haunted school hallway. Cool sound, but not my thing
A musical journey that bounces around with this indescribable energy that is infectious. Songs without lyrics that you will still sing along to somehow.
I've had the great honour of seeing Herbie live earlier this year. He is getting old and you can see that, but you won't hear it. He plays with the same youthful energy you hear on this 1973 recording. Everyone in his band was perfectly in tune with each other and together they made a wonderful tapestry of sound which was the best live music experience I have ever had.
One of my favourite albums, so it will not be surprising that I give it a 10/10.
Wait this album doesn't sing the praise of the lord?!?
They hate Reagan and Thatcher and I like that.
Pretty standard good rock. Not much to dislike or like about it though.
It's alright. The kind of music you'd listen to after you put the kids to bed and you have the house and a bottle of wine to yourself.
Like the sax and other instrumentals, but the songs sound roughly the same.
3.5
More punk. Hurray. Punk isn't really my thing and this isn't particularly good punk. I like some of the guitar riffs and it's only 15 min long. Still, I would rather listen to anything else.
2/10
How have I never heard of this band before?! Nice easy going vibes. I often dislike ethereal vocals, but here they really fit and I appreciate them.
The band plays really well and they sound like they would be a joy to listen to live.
The album has a diverse sound ranging from chill rock vibes in I wanna be adored, to the psychedelic sounds of don't stop and the funky bass of Fools gold
8/10 an album I will be adding to my rotation
Beautiful. I like instrumental jazz more than jazz with vocals, however Sarahs voice more than makes up for that. Her voice has warm tone akin to a mug of warm cocoa on a cold night.
The instrumentals are simple, but tight to accompany Sarahs vocals.
Live recordings can be hit or miss, but in this case it's pretty well done. I can imagine myself sitting in a corner booth with a pack of cigarettes and a glass of whisky, both of which a greatly dislike, but it's more about the vibe.
They make a few mistakes along the way, but I find them to be charming. They make a joke of it and professionally keep the show running. In my opinion this makes it more real, because mistakes happen. Life is about how you deal with them.
It'd give it a strong 8.
It's okay because at this point in his career he probably wasn't touching kids (cope)
Jokes aside, in my opinion the best Michael Jackson album. Filled with disco tunes that prove Michael deserved to be at one point the most well known man on earth.
Should be no surprise that this gets a 5/5
Jamiroquai have somehow made music that sounds fresh and new before I was even born.
This album is funky and jazzy, with vocals filled with soul. Jay Kay is invited to the cookout
First song is good enough to make you think the album will be good, but not good enough to save the rest of this clusterfuck. Painfully boring slop. Genuinely the worst listening experience so far. Why is this in this list??
Not great, but decent as I had expected. Too pop-y for my tastes and I don't like the vocals. Some of the instrumentals are pretty good though.
Slower, more ballad-y songs about love aren't my usual go-to. Ray Charles' voice has a lovely raspy quality to it I really enjoy though. Good music to put on in the morning while drinking a cup of coffee. After 2-3 songs you will have heard everything this album has on offer though. After a while I get sick of hearing lovesick ballads. Who hurt you Ray?
6/10
It's britney female dog.
The tracks sound like random beats from the electric keyboards I used to play with during music class in my youth. This is somehow positive. It reminds me of simpler times. When owning a house was the standard and when you could walk into a place of work with a can-do attitude and get hired. A time I ofcourse never lived, but sounds swell.
Some of the slower songs are boring to me but I cant give an album with bops such as Baby one More time and the beat goes on lower than a 7.
I have listened to 2.5 song before I gave up. I abhor Christmas music.
Instead I will be listening to Tyler The Creators Igor, which is a wonderful album, perhaps even his best.
This wonderful concept album follows the story of tyler in a very toxic cycle of love and rejection. This album solidified his title as the creator. It's art it barely has any rap and still slaps. If it was not for the track Boyfriend, it would get a 10/10.
Oh yeah and this christmas music gets a 1.
I just don't care for Bob Dylans voice. I don't understand the hype. I fear there will be many more Bob Dylan records among the 1000.
Just straight up good jazz. Don't have many notes, I just love it. Would not give it a perfect score, but I can't put my finger on why. Regardless a great piece of black classical music.
Not bad, just not very interesting 80s music. After having already listened to many albums fron the same decade this one is just okay.
The guitar riffs are very repetitive and the drums are pretty uninspired.
Honestly not bad for country-ish music. It's kinda cute and catchy. Not something In would listen to, but still
I like hip hop, but I can be very picky. Older hip hop doesn't really interest me often. The beats are simple and repetitive and many lyrics simple. This album is a little better than I am used to, but still the album doesn't really impress me. It's good, with nice flow, lyrics and somewhat funky beats, but it's just too simple for my tastes. It doesn't help that the album lidts a whopping 18 tracks. I would immediately believe you if you told me this album isn't their greatest work, because it just isn't it for me.
An album where Johnny Cash sings about being a bastard to prisoners is not something I thought I'd enjoy as much. A good example of the location really adding something to an album
Some of the fastest 45 minutes to pass. Dreamy, but somehow also energetic. The guitar cries like it is in beautiful anguish.
If I had to pick a gripe, I dont appreciate the parts that are noise/not music, but hey it kinda fits the vibe
5/5
He'll yeah
Surprisingly good bass and influences from example blues-rock. I did not expect to like this as much as I did. Definitely better and more unique than metallica if you ask me.
The guitar riffs are freaking insane on this record and not in the over the top kinda way. They are catchy groovy and brutal in a balanced way. Did I listen to any of the lyrics? No but I don't care. I am here to headbang while vacuuming my house.
8/10
I love Dolly Parton as a person, but I don't care for her as an artist. This album is filled with only slow country ballads. I don't think I can imagine a combination that fits my tastes less.
It's well made, just boring
Wow this is simply amazing. A wonderful breath of summer air between all of the 80's and country music.
The instrumentals are mixed clearly and make you swing around in your seat. Will definitely be listening again.
9/10
I dont have too much to say. Steely Dan is okay. Some songs have some swangin', but they are kinda samey
The music is fine, albeit boring, but it's 60's rock that is to be expected. However these lyrics.... Naw man this aint it.
Paint it, Black isn't on the UK version so I don't see a single redeeming quality to this record.
1/10
This amount of country in this list of a 1001 albums really shows how much Americans centre themselves. Almost no one outside of the US cares about country. From here on out I will not be wasting any more time with country music and I will be skipping said records unless it really brings something interesting to the conversation.
This album does not do such a thing. The history of the artist is 10x more interesting than the music itself.
Ahh De La Soul. By no means the biggest name in hip hop, but they are in my opinion a big contributor. I love jazz rap, but it can be a little self serious at times. De la soul in my opinion shows a more eccentric side to jazz rap that you don't often see. It is a good vibe and I am always happy to see them as a feature such as on Tom Misch' "it runs through me" and ofcourse "Feel Good Inc". Overall a good record and a good reminder for me to give their newest record a shot
FINALLY some good food. This album is a masterclass in storytelling. If any other artist made an album like this, it would overshadow their entire career and serve as a benchmark for all of their other releases. For Kendrick, this was just his first of many truly great albums of many.
Haunting and beautiful. Not my type of music, but I can definitely recognize the quality this band puts on display. It is the kind of album that you need to listen with headphones. You don't need to give your undivided attention to it though. If its your thing it will pull you in. I can totally understand how someone might find it too atmospheric or boring.
I also really appreciate that a relatively niche icelandic band is also on this list.
If I ever go to see the northern lights, I'll have my soundtrack ready.
8/10
If I ever learn icelandic it might go higher, but as it is the most difficult language in earth, I'll pass
