The Pleasure Principle by Gary Numan

Perhaps the best album of the 1001 albums at this point. It sounds timeless yet it is also a pure distillation of 80s synth music, yet again somehow made before the 80's. I can only imagine how influential this album must have been. An artist I've never heard of before, although I did recognize some tracks from general exposure to the internet. Definitely an album I am adding to my rotation. Not a perfect album, it can be a little repetitive at times, but that gives you move opportunity to keep listening to the catchy beats. It does kind of drag near the end als the energy dips during "conversation", but then it picks up again during "Cars". (Kachow) I'll grant it the first 5/5

Reggatta De Blanc by The Police

Did not expect too much of it but ended up liking it! The bass is funky and stanky and the drums sharp and clear. Favourites are It's "Regatta De Blanc", "alright for you" & "does everyone stare". The latter has a bit of a buildup, but sounds like a joy near the end. I don't particularly like the slower songs like "The Bed's Too Big Without You" & "Walking on the moon". Overall I'd give it a weak 4. It definitely has soms song I will he revisiting, but also some I will probably never give another thought again.

Aftermath by The Rolling Stones

The music is fine, albeit boring, but it's 60's rock that is to be expected. However these lyrics.... Naw man this aint it. Paint it, Black isn't on the UK version so I don't see a single redeeming quality to this record. 1/10

Low by David Bowie

I don't see how this has meaningfully contributed to music history. It's kinda weird, like alien circus music, but not in a way that is THAT out there. I guess it's better than other Bowie Albums as he is singing less and generally the vibe is more chill. Still I dont hear anything that would make me want to ever revisit this record Another bowie record that is a miss for me.

Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock

A musical journey that bounces around with this indescribable energy that is infectious. Songs without lyrics that you will still sing along to somehow. I've had the great honour of seeing Herbie live earlier this year. He is getting old and you can see that, but you won't hear it. He plays with the same youthful energy you hear on this 1973 recording. Everyone in his band was perfectly in tune with each other and together they made a wonderful tapestry of sound which was the best live music experience I have ever had. One of my favourite albums, so it will not be surprising that I give it a 10/10.

Dub Housing by Pere Ubu
Nov 13 2025

Navy: bedankt voor de nieuwe stim. Boy that sounds swell! On the surface: funky ringtone Dub housing: Caligari housing: what is happening? Thriller: it certainly is a song? (Pa) Ubu dance party: slaps Overall: strange but interesting. Niet een album wat ik ooit nog een keer zou willen luisteren behalve misschien bepaalde nummers als ik in een goblin bui ben. Als artistieke expressie geef ik het een 4

...And Justice For All by Metallica
Nov 14 2025

Dad metal hell yeah. It slaps One nitpick I have is that all metallica songs in general sound mostly the same to me including this album. That sounds is good, but I don't see why I would add more than 2 metallica songs to any playlist of mine. Not an album I would put on again probably or would specifically recommend, but good music nonetheless. 4

Led Zeppelin III by Led Zeppelin
Nov 17 2025

Strong country and folk inspirations, which admittedly are not my cup of tea. I do appreciate the blues rock on "since I've been loving you". I liked the first half, but from gallows pole onward the country/folk influences take over and I started nodding off. I don't think the singers voice really fits this more quiet style of music I'd give the first half a 4.5 and the second half a 2.5. overall that rounds out to a 3.5. Because i dislike albums that arent cohesive in quality I'll go with a 3. However, I have found some new songs I am adding to my catalogue.

Aladdin Sane by David Bowie
Nov 18 2025

In the past I've really tried to like Bowie, but I just kinda don't? Something in his music doesn't click with me. Individual songs have parts I like, but they often feel like they kind of drag. I appreciate him as an artist. He has a strong artistic vision and he is daring in his sound. However it just isn't my cup of tea. Fav: Let's spend the night together. Worst: Aladdin Sane

Abbey Road by Beatles
Nov 19 2025

I don't care for the beatles. I generally think they're mid. I was thus expecting to give this album a 1 or 2 at best. I was pleasantly surprised by a few songs, but most were forgettable as I expected. The kind of songs you put on and forget you are listening to after a few minutes. Favs: Octopus' garden, I want you so heavy & the End.

Nov 20 2025

Not always good, but always interesting. I don't often hear Indian influences in music so this was actually refreshing I don't like when albums have track with just some noise like "when the noise appears boy", but other than that I enjoyed it. Would give it a 3.7/10, but I'll round it up to a 4

The Pleasure Principle by Gary Numan

Meat Is Murder by The Smiths
Nov 24 2025

Sounds like a soundtrack to a 80s/90s movie set in a small village. This means it is both good in capturing a particular vibe, but also kind of falls to the background. I don't really like the singers voice, it sounds too much like whining to me, especially when the subject matter is so dire such as in the titular song. No particular song stands out to me, although everyone of them was at least okay. If I had to choose a favourite it would be "nowhere fast". Fine music to have on in the background while you're drinking a beer in the pub, but that's about it. 2.5

Live! by Fela Kuti
Nov 25 2025

Fela Kuti is a legend for a reason. The only gripe I have with this album is that I wasn't alive to see this played live and now I'll have to carry that burden of knowing that for the rest of my life.

Nov 26 2025

Interesting and punky. I can see how this has influenced punk of even today. Courtney Love has a powerful raw voice that is really unique. 3.5

Innervisions by Stevie Wonder
Nov 27 2025

One day this man will die and I will shed tears. Very good record, although I prefer songs in the key of life. Never listened to this one back to back and I am thankful for the experience 4.5

Kimono My House by Sparks
Nov 28 2025

Very interesting and unique record. Energetic, entertaining and exciting. Definitely will add songs like: "this town aint big enough for both of us" & "amateur hour" to my playlists. Solid 4

Reggatta De Blanc by The Police
Dec 01 2025

Did not expect too much of it but ended up liking it! The bass is funky and stanky and the drums sharp and clear. Favourites are It's "Regatta De Blanc", "alright for you" & "does everyone stare". The latter has a bit of a buildup, but sounds like a joy near the end. I don't particularly like the slower songs like "The Bed's Too Big Without You" & "Walking on the moon". Overall I'd give it a weak 4. It definitely has soms song I will he revisiting, but also some I will probably never give another thought again.

Blue by Joni Mitchell
Dec 02 2025

Beautiful, but boring music with very personal lyrics. Joni does some interesting progressions I didnt see coming. Still, singer/songwriter music without basically any instrumentation isn't my cup of tea. I'd like to give it a higher score, but I was mostly just bored during the songs.

Deloused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta
Dec 03 2025

Fantastic progrock. Energetic opening and the energy just keeps rolling until the end. It's artistic, sometimes bordering snobby but always entertaining. It combines influence of rock, metal, some latin and even some jazz. True progrock that I will definitely listen to again. It's a concept album, meaning it tells a story. I am a sucker for concept albums and I tend to listen to them repeatedly front to back. The songwriters use words that sometimes sound like nonsense, but I feel are used to drum up images more than to be interpreted literally. On the surface the albums meaning could be just "drugs are cool". However the imagery is trippy and horrific. It feels more like an alien abduction than a psychedelic trip. The album is based on a story of the bandmembers and is made more poignant as one of the bandmembers died to a drug overdose shortly after the release of this song. My interpretation is therefore a person trying to imagine and depict in fantastical terms how a persons last moments might have been as they slip into nothingness. Heavy stuff. No skips or songs I disliked. Although Cicatriz Esp has that progrock thing where they play strange sounds for an entire minute, which I am not a fan of. A strong 4.5, although I can understand it's not everyones cup of tea.

Dec 04 2025

This album is very special. I liked the first few songs but halfway through I got kinda bored. "Electricity" picks up some steam again, but most of the momentum is soon lost during "the individual" which is just noise. "No God Only Religion" was very interesting again however, although a little too long for my taste Overall I'd give it 7. There are definitely songs I will come back to, but as an album it is far from perfect.

Third by Portishead
Dec 05 2025

Really interesting trippy dark ambient music. Some parts were really cool, but others would drag and be too experimental for my tastes. Still I appreciate daring artistic choices. 6.5

Surfer Rosa by Pixies
Dec 08 2025

Dark, disjointed and grunge. Sounds like it was recorded in a haunted school hallway. Cool sound, but not my thing

Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock
Dec 09 2025

A musical journey that bounces around with this indescribable energy that is infectious. Songs without lyrics that you will still sing along to somehow. I've had the great honour of seeing Herbie live earlier this year. He is getting old and you can see that, but you won't hear it. Everyone in his band was perfectly in tune with each other and together they made a wonderful tapestry of sound which was the best live music experience I have ever had. One of my favourite albums, so it will not be surprising that I give it a 10/10.

The Holy Bible by Manic Street Preachers
Dec 10 2025

Wait this album doesn't sing the praise of the lord?!? They hate Reagan and Thatcher and I like that. Pretty standard good rock. Not much to dislike or like about it though.

Rapture by Anita Baker
Dec 11 2025

It's alright. The kind of music you'd listen to after you put the kids to bed and you have the house and a bottle of wine to yourself. Like the sax and other instrumentals, but the songs sound roughly the same. 3.5

Group Sex by Circle Jerks
Dec 12 2025

More punk. Hurray. Punk isn't really my thing and this isn't particularly good punk. I like some of the guitar riffs and it's only 15 min long. Still, I would rather listen to anything else. 2/10

The Stone Roses by The Stone Roses
Dec 15 2025

How have I never heard of this band before?! Nice easy going vibes. I often dislike ethereal vocals, but here they really fit and I appreciate them. The band plays really well and they sound like they would be a joy to listen to live. The album has a diverse sound ranging from chill rock vibes in I wanna be adored, to the psychedelic sounds of don't stop and the funky bass of Fools gold 8/10 an album I will be adding to my rotation

At Mister Kelly's by Sarah Vaughan
Dec 16 2025

Beautiful. I like instrumental jazz more than jazz with vocals, however Sarahs voice more than makes up for that. Her voice has warm tone akin to a mug of warm cocoa on a cold night. The instrumentals are simple, but tight to accompany Sarahs vocals. Live recordings can be hit or miss, but in this case it's pretty well done. I can imagine myself sitting in a corner booth with a pack of cigarettes and a glass of whisky, both of which a greatly dislike, but it's more about the vibe. They make a few mistakes along the way, but I find them to be charming. They make a joke of it and professionally keep the show running. In my opinion this makes it more real, because mistakes happen. Life is about how you deal with them. It'd give it a strong 8.

Off The Wall by Michael Jackson
Dec 17 2025

It's okay because at this point in his career he probably wasn't touching kids (cope) Jokes aside, in my opinion the best Michael Jackson album. Filled with disco tunes that prove Michael deserved to be at one point the most well known man on earth. Should be no surprise that this gets a 5/5

Dec 18 2025

Jamiroquai have somehow made music that sounds fresh and new before I was even born. This album is funky and jazzy, with vocals filled with soul. Jay Kay is invited to the cookout

1977 by Ash
Dec 19 2025

First song is good enough to make you think the album will be good, but not good enough to save the rest of this clusterfuck. Painfully boring slop. Genuinely the worst listening experience so far. Why is this in this list??

Dec 22 2025

Not great, but decent as I had expected. Too pop-y for my tastes and I don't like the vocals. Some of the instrumentals are pretty good though.

The Genius Of Ray Charles by Ray Charles
Dec 23 2025

Slower, more ballad-y songs about love aren't my usual go-to. Ray Charles' voice has a lovely raspy quality to it I really enjoy though. Good music to put on in the morning while drinking a cup of coffee. After 2-3 songs you will have heard everything this album has on offer though. After a while I get sick of hearing lovesick ballads. Who hurt you Ray? 6/10

...Baby One More Time by Britney Spears
Dec 25 2025

It's britney female dog. The tracks sound like random beats from the electric keyboards I used to play with during music class in my youth. This is somehow positive. It reminds me of simpler times. When owning a house was the standard and when you could walk into a place of work with a can-do attitude and get hired. A time I ofcourse never lived, but sounds swell. Some of the slower songs are boring to me but I cant give an album with bops such as Baby one More time and the beat goes on lower than a 7.

Dec 26 2025

I have listened to 2.5 song before I gave up. I abhor Christmas music. Instead I will be listening to Tyler The Creators Igor, which is a wonderful album, perhaps even his best. This wonderful concept album follows the story of tyler in a very toxic cycle of love and rejection. This album solidified his title as the creator. It's art it barely has any rap and still slaps. If it was not for the track Boyfriend, it would get a 10/10. Oh yeah and this christmas music gets a 1.

Dec 29 2025

I just don't care for Bob Dylans voice. I don't understand the hype. I fear there will be many more Bob Dylan records among the 1000.

Dec 30 2025

Just straight up good jazz. Don't have many notes, I just love it. Would not give it a perfect score, but I can't put my finger on why. Regardless a great piece of black classical music.

Pretenders by Pretenders
Dec 31 2025

Not bad, just not very interesting 80s music. After having already listened to many albums fron the same decade this one is just okay. The guitar riffs are very repetitive and the drums are pretty uninspired.

Jan 01 2026

Honestly not bad for country-ish music. It's kinda cute and catchy. Not something In would listen to, but still

Step In The Arena by Gang Starr
Jan 02 2026

I like hip hop, but I can be very picky. Older hip hop doesn't really interest me often. The beats are simple and repetitive and many lyrics simple. This album is a little better than I am used to, but still the album doesn't really impress me. It's good, with nice flow, lyrics and somewhat funky beats, but it's just too simple for my tastes. It doesn't help that the album lidts a whopping 18 tracks. I would immediately believe you if you told me this album isn't their greatest work, because it just isn't it for me.

At Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash
Jan 05 2026

An album where Johnny Cash sings about being a bastard to prisoners is not something I thought I'd enjoy as much. A good example of the location really adding something to an album

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Jan 06 2026

Some of the fastest 45 minutes to pass. Dreamy, but somehow also energetic. The guitar cries like it is in beautiful anguish. If I had to pick a gripe, I dont appreciate the parts that are noise/not music, but hey it kinda fits the vibe 5/5

Jan 07 2026

He'll yeah Surprisingly good bass and influences from example blues-rock. I did not expect to like this as much as I did. Definitely better and more unique than metallica if you ask me. The guitar riffs are freaking insane on this record and not in the over the top kinda way. They are catchy groovy and brutal in a balanced way. Did I listen to any of the lyrics? No but I don't care. I am here to headbang while vacuuming my house. 8/10

Trio by Dolly Parton
Jan 08 2026

I love Dolly Parton as a person, but I don't care for her as an artist. This album is filled with only slow country ballads. I don't think I can imagine a combination that fits my tastes less. It's well made, just boring

Siembra by Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
Jan 09 2026

Wow this is simply amazing. A wonderful breath of summer air between all of the 80's and country music. The instrumentals are mixed clearly and make you swing around in your seat. Will definitely be listening again. 9/10

Aja by Steely Dan
Jan 12 2026

I dont have too much to say. Steely Dan is okay. Some songs have some swangin', but they are kinda samey

Aftermath by The Rolling Stones
Jan 13 2026

The music is fine, albeit boring, but it's 60's rock that is to be expected. However these lyrics.... Naw man this aint it. Paint it, Black isn't on the UK version so I don't see a single redeeming quality to this record. 1/10

Oar by Alexander 'Skip' Spence
Jan 15 2026

This amount of country in this list of a 1001 albums really shows how much Americans centre themselves. Almost no one outside of the US cares about country. From here on out I will not be wasting any more time with country music and I will be skipping said records unless it really brings something interesting to the conversation. This album does not do such a thing. The history of the artist is 10x more interesting than the music itself.

3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul
Jan 16 2026

Ahh De La Soul. By no means the biggest name in hip hop, but they are in my opinion a big contributor. I love jazz rap, but it can be a little self serious at times. De la soul in my opinion shows a more eccentric side to jazz rap that you don't often see. It is a good vibe and I am always happy to see them as a feature such as on Tom Misch' "it runs through me" and ofcourse "Feel Good Inc". Overall a good record and a good reminder for me to give their newest record a shot

good kid, m.A.A.d city by Kendrick Lamar
Jan 19 2026

FINALLY some good food. This album is a masterclass in storytelling. If any other artist made an album like this, it would overshadow their entire career and serve as a benchmark for all of their other releases. For Kendrick, this was just his first of many truly great albums of many.

Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós
Jan 20 2026

Haunting and beautiful. Not my type of music, but I can definitely recognize the quality this band puts on display. It is the kind of album that you need to listen with headphones. You don't need to give your undivided attention to it though. If its your thing it will pull you in. I can totally understand how someone might find it too atmospheric or boring. I also really appreciate that a relatively niche icelandic band is also on this list. If I ever go to see the northern lights, I'll have my soundtrack ready. 8/10 If I ever learn icelandic it might go higher, but as it is the most difficult language in earth, I'll pass

Violent Femmes by Violent Femmes
Jan 21 2026

Pretty interesting record. Never thought acoustic punk could work, but it does. It is kinda raw, but that is punk for you. Also sounds pretty new for it being released in the 80s The songs didn't make a huge impression on me though. Not a single one really got me moving in my seat or really pull me in. Just a good 7/10

Merriweather Post Pavilion by Animal Collective
Jan 22 2026

The album cover is trippy, which should prepare you for the contents of this record. The music itself is alright. Nothing really grabbed me.

Mermaid Avenue by Billy Bragg
Jan 23 2026

This is country. Idc. It's boring enough that I didn't even finish the first song. If I somehow missed a piece of generational art, I'll die a rube (or the opposite I suppose). Instead I listened to the amazing 2024 record "The New Sound" of Geordie Greep. An amazing record I expect with time to only ripe and become better. It mixes prog-rock, samba and elements of jazz. It's a thrilling ride following one mans descent into insanity as he loses his grip on life because falls in love with a lady of the night. It is an album with energetic highs such as the amazing "Holy, holy", but most songs will have me moving. Only "Motorbike" is a little bit meh. But by the time you reach the last three songs you might, like me, be an emotional and physical wreck. Then is the exact moment Greep hits you with the most touching songs "As if Waltz", "The Magician" & "If you are but a Dream". The first time I finished this record I felt my brain synapses make new connections and I knew my life was changed. That is the power music can have. 10/10 Of course unless its a country record which I'll give a 1.

Definitely Maybe by Oasis
Jan 26 2026

I find it interesting that most reviews I've seen of this record either give it a 5 or an 1. This record does nothing really special, it's like the stones and beatles had a mediocre baby. It's wayy too poppy for my tastes, but it isn't awful to listen to. Just plain boring. 4/10

War by U2
Jan 27 2026

Its aight. The singer seems to think that singing as if you're standing on a cliff dearly holding on to the life of your young child makes it more emotional. However as he uses the same tone for almost the entire album, it loses it power and makes it sound kind of goofy. It feels kind of self-important and meaningless. Yes war and atrocities are bad, but do you have anything actually meaningful to add to the conversation? If you like christian-light rock with a kinda social message this is the record for you. For everyone else: move on. 5/10

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
Jan 28 2026

Nah. Who outside the US cares about this drivel? The guitar is boring, Bruce's singing moreso. Not gonna waste my time finishing this record. Instead, I listened to Black Messiah from the late and great D'Angelo. I knew some songs from this record already, but it could not prepare me for the absolutely amazing record it is. Its jazzy, soulful and if you ask me one of the, if not the best R&B album of the 21st century. It's often leans into the more experimental side, but never strays too far. Enough to be tantalizing, not enough to be grating. Each song is just an instant classic. Unlike Nebraska, which sucks. 2/10

The ArchAndroid by Janelle Monáe
Jan 29 2026

This record is an absolute treat. Janelle somehow combines elements of many different genres such as R&B, Funk, Hiphop, Pop, classical, brassband and probably more and puts it in a sci-fi concept album. Very daring, but the spectacular execution pays off. This woman deserves to be one of the most well listened to women. I'll now promptly listen to this record again and afterwards listen to her entire discography.

Odelay by Beck
Jan 30 2026

This record feels experimental and daring, but not really to my taste. I appreciate the risks they took and I think there will be lots of people who thoroughly enjoy this album, I just am not one of them.

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Feb 02 2026

Only slightly better than Meat is Murder, but by a long shot not good enough to enjoy.

Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette
Feb 03 2026

Inside me there are two wolves. One loves rap and rock. The other one loves funk and jazz. Both fucking love white girl music from the 90s and 00s. Honestly surprisingly good instrumentals. "You oughta know" has some stanky bass and other songs have some genuinely good guitar riffs and tight drum sections. Although I dont appreciate the balads, most other songs are pretty catchy and fun. However if not for the legendary "Ironic" this record most likely wouldn't be on this list. Its strong shoulders carry the weight of the ballads pretty wel though. 7/10

Catch A Fire by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Feb 05 2026

Bob Marley is always a treat. His music and reggae in general does have the tendency for me to bled into the background. To me it isn't really music to actively listen to. That's fine however as his music always puts me into a good mood and this album is no exception.

Let's Stay Together by Al Green
Feb 06 2026

This record is like a warm shower. I love classic r&b. As usual, do not care for the slower ballads, but all around a good record.

Wild Is The Wind by Nina Simone
Feb 09 2026

I've recently got a new appreciation for blues. Nina Simone was an amazing singer with a wonderful warm tone to her voice. Normally I don't like slower songs like "Four Women", but this song touches something in my soul. I adore this record.

With The Beatles by Beatles
Feb 10 2026

Why o why is only the last song on this record mixed properly. I REALLY dislike only hearing the vocals in my right ear. Other than that this record is fine. The beatles sound like they actually enjoy making these songs, something which can't be said on later records.

Time (The Revelator) by Gillian Welch
Feb 11 2026

One song of this americana singer songwriter country adjecent music is fine. I dont wanna listen to an hour of this though. 3/10

american dream by LCD Soundsystem
Feb 12 2026

Very interesting daring album. I've heard of LCD soundsystem before, but this definitely makes me want to listen to more of them

Chris by Christine and the Queens
Feb 13 2026

This is fine? On one hand I appreciate that there is some queer rep in this list, but on the other hand I feel like there should be many other better options. It's just pretty standard pop, but gay and French.

Seventeen Seconds by The Cure
Feb 16 2026

I dont have an outspoken opinion on the cure.

Feb 17 2026

I can't really articulate why, but listening to 80's punk/rock bores me to death. I just don't find it interesting. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, also just not anything worthwhile to it

Stephen Stills by Stephen Stills
Feb 18 2026

Pretty good, more than I expected. Some interesting influences from varying sources.

This Year's Model by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Feb 19 2026

Very peculiar sound. After a few songs I grew pretty bored of it though. Still, I appreciate an artistic choice and this record has to be up someone alley.

The Infotainment Scan by The Fall
Feb 20 2026

Experimental, but repetitive in my opinion. The vocals frankly suck, but in such a way that they are hilarious in a way. I'd rather be in silence than listen to this and thats says something. The instrumentals are fine, but not good enough to carry the record.

Bad by Michael Jackson
Feb 23 2026

Here is a record that definitely belongs on this list. A piece of music history filled with bangers. Not personally my favourite MJ record, but very close.

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
Feb 24 2026

Good riffs, heavy and dark atmosphere. Too slow for my taste. I also only now realise that Jack Black sounds a lot like Ozzy.

McCartney by Paul McCartney
Feb 25 2026

I don't care about Sir Paul McCartney. It has some interesting guitar and bass sections, but mostly it isnt my thing. Better than the beatles though.

Clube Da Esquina by Milton Nascimento
Feb 26 2026

Really good and refreshing. The mixing can sometimes be really shit though, which is a real shame. I dont appreciate hearing the piano directly inside my right earlobe.

Madman Across The Water by Elton John
Feb 27 2026

It aint my vibe, but I like Elton John as a person and musician. Would I ever put it on again? No. Would I complain if some puts on some Elton John. No.

Songs For Swingin' Lovers! by Frank Sinatra
Mar 02 2026

I can't describe why, but Sinatra scratches an itch in my brain no other artist can. It's just plain good

Garbage by Garbage
Mar 03 2026

I actually kinda liked it until for some reason random beeps and boops started playing out of rhythm in the last few songs. I thought I was going crazy

Smash by The Offspring
Mar 04 2026

It is 2004 and I am playing Tony Hawk's pro-skater 4 on the gamecube. I am playing the colour tag game against my 7 year older brother and am severly losing. I am hoping for my favourite system of a down song to come on so I can use the morale boost to hopefully beat my brother. Instead Blackball from the Offspring comes on and my brother proceedes to score an infinite amount of points by doing a trick I don't understand with my 6 year old brain, locking down the key point on the map. I lose, but it's fine, the music is good and I want a rematch.    I love skater punk. 9/10

Music in Exile by Songhoy Blues
Mar 05 2026

What a beautiful record. It is filled with soulful music that makes you want swing and miss a place you have never been to. I will have to give this record a few more listens with the translations at hand. This might be one of my favourite albums of this year and it is only March. Gems like these are the reason why I love 1001 albums

Halcyon Digest by Deerhunter
Mar 06 2026

Not really my thing. If gloomy indie rock is your thing you'll probably love this as it's of high quality. It seems like a record with interesting lyrics that need multiple listens to digest. However, as I don't find this style of music enjoyable, I won't be doing so.

Queens of the Stone Age by Queens Of The Stone Age
Mar 09 2026

A little bit grittier and muddier than their later work, but nonetheless very good. I do think the drums on many songs aren't their best work, although I really dig Bronze and Mexicola.

Pornography by The Cure
Mar 10 2026

I dont have an outspoken opinion on the cure. This album sounds like what the goth kids in southpark listen to. I could dig if only a few songs had the very present echo effect, but its presence on atleast half of the songs makes it sound pretty samey to me. Not an experience that was outright negative, but kinda boring. 4/10

Sea Change by Beck
Mar 11 2026

Moody country-like record. None of those things are my thing. It's good music, but my kinda music 6/10

Guitar Town by Steve Earle
Mar 12 2026

I went to guitar town and everyone there knew ya. Country singer song writer. Eh. Not my thing. Skipped most of this record

Inspiration Information by Shuggie Otis
Mar 13 2026

This record is amazing. It uses broad influences and combines them in a beautiful tapestry. It's very modern for its time, which might explain why it initially flopped. It's hazey, bluesy and jazzy. Definitely adding many of the songs to my rotation and giving this record another listen.

Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone
Mar 16 2026

Old skool funk always is great for my soul. Sly was truly revolutionary for its time and music of today would not be the same without them. It's large influence now laid out, is this record any good? I ask this because in many cases, music might be influential, but not particularly good (cough the Beatles). However I am glad to say, this record stands the test of time. It's funky, soulful with some great messages. Definitely a new favourite and a great pick for the 1001.

Imagine by John Lennon
Mar 17 2026

John Lennon hit his wife and was a piece of shit. The least he could do is make some bangers, but the only bangers he makes are his former wife hitting the wall. 0/10

Mar 18 2026

I adore Muse and I adore this album. One of the few bands that go out of their way musically to create a distinct sound that evolves rock while still making good listenable music.

Melodrama by Lorde
Mar 19 2026

I find it difficult to form an opinion about this record. The cover is beautiful, Lordes singing equally so and the production is of very high quality. At release it would have probably sounded fresh and a nice departure from pop of the time. I however am listening to it in 2026 and it's sound does not hold up in my opinion. I have heard Jack Antinoffs formulaic enough these past few years as it seems every lady in pop has to make atleast one album with the guy. This is some of his better work, still halfway through a number the formula becomes boring as musically it doesn't do anything exciting. The vocals are good, but in my opinion don't fit really well with the production style. A singer with more energy, more 'oomph' to their voice would fit better. All in all it's a fine album that isn't helped by the fact I don't care for breakup songs

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Mar 20 2026

The Isley brothers are so influential on black music. Their music is sampled in so many songs that their page on "who sampled" is 20 pages long. For good reason. It's R&B and funk at its best. Even though my favourite song of theirs isn't on this record, it is still an absolute treat. This has reminded me to give their discography a good listen.

Funeral by Arcade Fire
Mar 23 2026

This sounds derivative and not very interesting. Not plain bad, just boring

Out Of The Blue by Electric Light Orchestra
Mar 24 2026

This is what I guess the beatles sound like to beatles heads, cuz it's pretty good. Large, orchestral and very present. Little bit long and poppy for my tastes, but all around decent.

Mar 25 2026

When I was a kid I believed this kind of music would be playing in the club. Probably because I really liked the blade movies (still do). Against my expectations I found that most clubs actually play music that was popular when I was a kid, the same music that is played in supermarkets, but then a lot louder. I'd rather have this. Techno is hard to make. It has to walk the edge between entrancing and repetetive. This record I feel walks the line beautifully. It is like an undulating black mass, constantly growing and changing, but continuously progressing forwards. It is a matter of taste of course, lots of people will find it to be too repetetive. Some songs (like parts of Banstyle and blueski) are in my opinion, but for every repetive minute, there are several interesting ones.

Rings Around The World by Super Furry Animals
Mar 26 2026

Very interesting album. All over the place, ranging from britpop/rock to experimental break-core parts that sound like a terraria boss fight of No sympathy. It might not be everyones cuppa tea, but it is good artistic expression. One of the more interesting and enjoyable records on the 1001 list.

Timeless by Goldie
Mar 27 2026

I can't say I've thoughtfully listened to every minute of this record, but that is not really the point. I can imagine myself completely escaping the banality of life in a underground rave listening to this. Having said that, it is a little bit too slow and sometimes repetitive for me to truly dig. But is sounds fresh even though it is old. Solid record innit. 7.5/10

Live And Dangerous by Thin Lizzy
Mar 30 2026

A fun energetic album filled with hardish rock. Everything about it is pretty good, although they don't do anything new or daring.

After The Gold Rush by Neil Young
Mar 31 2026

I dislike his high nasaly voice and I don't vibe with american folk music. Didn't finish it. Wasn't worth my time. 1/10

Green by R.E.M.
Apr 01 2026

I appreciate 80s punk for the critical voice they often gave a megaphone. More modern musicians should follow their footsteps and stick their necks out, especially in times like these. However, I really don't like the sound of 80s punk/alternative rock. It just sounds corny man.

The United States Of America by The United States Of America
Apr 02 2026

A very strange but wonderful record. Can't say I enjoyed every second, but every second was interesting.

Darkdancer by Les Rythmes Digitales
Apr 03 2026

This record is a portal to another time of chrome and optimism. The production is wonderful and the lyrics nonsensical in the best possible way. The cover art looks like something spray painted on the side of a carnival attraction. The kinda music you'd expect to play during an early 2000's snowboarding game that you let play in the background while you do your homework or play with your bionicles, because it's just that rad. Not all these points might sound positive, but they actually are, because it all just fits. Not all music needs to be a high-brow intellectual affaire. This record doesn't try to be deep and it succeeds. For that and just the sheer quality and dancability I'll afford it no less than a 8/10. Fav are Music Makes You Lose Control (which is actually older than the Missy Eliot song, neaT) & Jacques your body

Apr 06 2026

My favourite part of a Kanye West song is the production. My least favourite is his raps/vocals. This record ocicillates between genuinely pretty good and genuinely garbage. Even though the production is often great, even that sometimes falls flat. Some samples are over used (such as the One Piece is real song) which can cause that samples to feel jarring. All that said, every song on this record is iconic and I understand why it's on here. I greatly dislike records with fluctuating quality, so I can't give it higher than a 6/10.

Violator by Depeche Mode
Apr 07 2026

Didn't know what to expect but it was actually pretty decent. They have a strong dark vibe going that isn't really my thing, but is executed pretty well nonetheless. Not an album or artist I would give another listen, but one I would recommend to someone if I know this type of music is their thing.

On The Beach by Neil Young
Apr 08 2026

Why is Neil back again. Please leave. I guess this record in particular is a little bit better than the rest, but still I hate this guys voice.

Apr 09 2026

This is so amusingly bad. Tainted love is kinda a banger, but even on there the singing is just straight up atrocious and it does not get any better. The synths are also badly mixed. It sounds like music made comically bad for a sketch. I'd like to give it a 1, but it has entertained me more than any country record before so I'll settle for a 2/5

The Sun Rises In The East by Jeru The Damaja
Apr 10 2026

Old school hip hop that isn't particularly good even for it's time. The mixing and beats are sometimes kinda whack. For instance on "Brooklyn Took it" the vocals are wayy to soft and the beep on "Mental Stamina" is genuinely irritating but just keeps repeating throughout the entire track. Da Bichez however is pretty good with a nice sax beat, although I don't particularly like the lyrical contents (although it is very mild for its time). The latter half of the record is miles better than the first, which is a baffling choice. If it wasn't for this project I would have dropped the record before getting to the actually good part. It has better flow, better lyrical content such as Ain't the Devil Happy speaking on black empowerment and more interesting beats in general. These tracks are only slightly good enough to make up for the bad start though. Also I find his pose on the album cover hilarious for some reason. Why is he sitting like that with his fists balled hahaha. Also are the twin towers on fire??? 7/10.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Apr 13 2026

De production is nice and the record has a good atmosphere and theme. It's a little long and not to my tastes. I don't care for indie folky music, but this was surprisingly nice. Still not something I would ever put on again

Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem
Apr 14 2026

LCD Soundsystem feels old and new at the same time. A very unique band that makes unique music. My favourite songs have this slowly rising tension in them. Like emotions welling up, refusing to be ignored any longer before exploding in a wide array of colours. The kind of music to play while cycling home from a party at 5 in the morning while the sun is slowly rising. That being said, I need to be in a very specific mood to listen to their music. Outside that mood, their music is repetetive. When I am in the correct mood however, it sweeps me away.

Fun House by The Stooges
Apr 15 2026

I didn't expect to like this as much as I did, as I don't really like Iggy Pop. This record sounds like grimy blues rock with a sound that is very ahead of it's time. The thick suffocating bass and steady, but tight drums are intoxicating. The vocals are the part I liked the least, but not enough to be distracting on most songs. Altogether a record I quite enjoyed and might put on again, particularly when I am on a treadmill.

Apr 16 2026

Cee-Lo Green is a strange man. He can make some genuinely good music, but often when working with other people. It seems mr Green misses a certain something to make the best of his excellent qualities. This record is a good example. The best songs are the ones where he has either Pharell or Timbaland as a feature (both great producers), the rest are however very meh. Not bad, it's kinda soulful, but nothing to speak home about. A far cry from the highs Cee Lo can reach in for example Gnarls Barkley.

Power In Numbers by Jurassic 5
Apr 17 2026

This shit is delicious. The beats are simple, but soulful and hit. The variety of voices from the four rappers offers a nice variety. Often in rap groups there are one or two really good voices, while the rest are okay. Not here, they support eachother really well and their parts flow into each other extremely well as if they are actually four heads of the same multiheaded dinosaur. The record is a tad long, but the songs are pretty varied, so that isn't a big negative. The only song I disliked was One Of Them. A more traditional 90's rap track with a darker track and tone. I don't think this fits their style and the casual homophobia is really unneccesary. The following "Hey" which is as soft as a summer breeze makes the dark sounds of One Of Them only more jarring. The track isn't bad enough to sour the entire record, however it is sad how close this record came to true greatness only to fumble at the last second. Another record that I probably would never have found without this list. A great addition. 8.5/10

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones
Apr 20 2026

If this was playing live in a cafe I'd really like it. However, the slower numbers are not very interesting to me, although they arent bad

Hunky Dory by David Bowie
Apr 21 2026

Well let's give Bowie another shot... I really didn't like Aladdin Sane. In retrospect it might be one of the records I enjoyed the least of the 100+ records. Bowie just doesn't click with me and that record is often pretty grating. This record isn't as grating and has some pretty nice tunes. The songs flow nicely into eachother and the production is actually really nice. Particularly the string section of Life on Mars is really nice. The following Kooks is also pretty fun and cheerful. If this record was a lemon, I've just squeezed every good drop of juice I could get from it, because after this song it all goes downhill. Quicksand and Fill your heart are just straight up boring. Andy Warhol has a minute long intro only to bait you with a nice guitar riff that leads to just another uninteresting song. By the time we've reached song for Bob Dylan I really want to put on something else. Queen Bitch is alright, but not enough by a long shot to make up for the previous four songs. The Bewlay Brothers is barely a song. It's one minute spoken word with an intermezzo of 30 seconds of song that's actually kinda decent followed again with a minute of spoken word. In the end this records feels very meh. Bowie is certainly capable of making music I enjoy, which makes it all the more enfuriating when he teases that in front of me only to take it away once more. Not everything is made for me and that is fine. However I am not looking forward to the other 7 records on the 1001 list of Bowie. Who knows, perhaps I will find a song or two I will actually like. 5/10

Hejira by Joni Mitchell
Apr 22 2026

I really liked the opening song Coyote. After that however I had trouble finding songs that resonated with me. None are bad and I'd probably enjoy listening to these songs live. Just isn't my thing.

Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins
Apr 23 2026

[small change after reslistening] Grunge is back on the menu boys. Heavy dark guitar riffs. "tortured" music has to walk the line between sounding insufferably whiny and cathartic. This record walks that line reasonably well and I can imagine many a teen in the 90's listening to this stuff on their way to school. It also helps that the singers voice, although high and nasaly not too much on the forefront. The mix is very clear in general. The drums and bass really jump out, which is in my experience pretty rare in this genre. It's kind of impressive that they have managed to get such a clear sound while still sounding grunge-y. It's good for a grunge record, but I don't like grunge. 7/10

Apr 24 2026

An angry whiteboy raps about being mad and disliking being famous for more than an hour straight. It's an interesting timecapsule and a classic, but I would not call it "good". It's bad, raunchy and that's exactly the point. It's made by a rotten guy, made for a rotten audience in a rotten system. In that way it has some interesting things to say as a culture study. However the copious amount of homophobia en misogyny (even for its time) makes it a hard listen and hard to defend. The runtime doesn't help as this record can't seem to decide whether it wants to be gangster rap, horrorcore or some kind of satire. Some tracks (such as Remember me and Amityville) could easily be cut as I don't see what they bring to the record. In general when people express Eminem is their favourite rapper I see it as a major red flag. Either they don't know enough about rap to have a favourite rapper (which is fine) or they are racist. Because Eminem doesn't have the best beats, the best flow or the best bars. But he is angry and white. If you identify with this music, I have bad news for you. All that being said, Eminem has some bars, good flow and brings a very infectious manic energy to this record. This energy can be too much such as in "Kim" which sounds like a horror movie made into a song, but that's a matter of taste I guess. There is a reason from among all the white boys trying to stake their claim in the rap game, only Eminem made it big. If the record was a little shorter, more self-concious or more overtly critical of the systems that created Slim this record could easily be a 9/10, but it just isn't. 7/10

Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet
Apr 27 2026

After a streak of in my opinion very mid record, we finally once again have a banger. Very smooth with interesting time signatures. There's a good reason why Take Five is THE jazz song non-jazz listeners know. The rest of the record isi nice as well, but does tend to fall away into the background. That isn't really a negative, but I do tend to like music that forces you to pay attention to it. Still a nice record to put on when you're chilling with people that don't particularly care for jazz, but you still have a craving for some jazz and want to put on some jazz regardless. How many times have I said Jazz now? 8.5/10

Led Zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin
Apr 28 2026

This record is a lot harsher and harder than Led Zeppelin III and I like this sound much better. Song after song are just bangers creating a ride from start to finish. Very strong blues influence and a sound bordering metal. This record makes me look forward to the rest of the Led Zeppelin records that will without doubt be on this list.

Apr 29 2026

Take on me is a great song, but the rest of the record is not really worth listening to. The rest is either simple 80's pop or kinda sad singer songwriter stuff. Nothing that better artists have not done. Traces of the exentricity from Take on Me can be found in the strange beats of other songs, but not enough to make this record worth it.

More Specials by The Specials
Apr 30 2026

Ska music is inherently goofy. Certain parts of songs sound like a scrapped jamaica mario 64 level. This is not bad per se, it's playful and I kinda like it. However the trackks are just very badly mixed, it sounds blurry like I am trying to listen through a bad speaker. Ghosttown & Friday Night, Saturdaymorning are pretty alright, but this record is wayyy to long to just have 2 good tracks. Still it does it's thing and for that I'll give it a 5.5

Screamadelica by Primal Scream
May 01 2026

Not at all what I was expecting from the name. I didn't particularly like or hate this record. It wasn't my thing though. Too repetitive and not enough Oomph.

Are You Experienced by Jimi Hendrix
May 04 2026

Hendrix is an absolute legend and this record is monumental. Having said that, is it actually good? I would say yes definitely. People often talk about Jimi's guitar, which is obviously great, but no one seems to talk about how well the rest comes together, including Jimi's sultry voice. You need great musicians to accompany a great like Hendrix. Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell know how to keep up. It's psychedelic but mostly bluesey, something people also really understate. Having said all that, I don't particularly like this older style of production, but it definitely isn't as bad as some famous records (looking at you Beatles) This record should be here and among the most influential records of modern music.

May 05 2026

It's aight. Sounds the strangest band someone's white grandpa might like. I don't really see why this record would be influential and worth putting on this list.

Eagles by Eagles
May 06 2026

it's just kinda meh

The Clash by The Clash
May 07 2026

The clash is very influential in a genre which I don't really care for. It doesn't sound like it's from the 70's, I'll give them that. The instrumentals are alright, but pretty boring and sounds mostly the same between and within songs. The mixing is also pretty bad. I'd like to like it more as it has some good messages, but it's not my thing.

May 08 2026

My chronically online gen-Z ass brain was shocked when the main riff of Voodoo People came on. Jokes aside, a genuinely good 90's rave record. It hits and keeps going all the way through. The hooks and drops are solid.

Disraeli Gears by Cream
May 11 2026

This record misses a certain something. An "Oomph" that makes the songs hit. It feels like the musicians are just kinda holding back in some strange way? It is not bad per se, but it doesn't excite me. Also apparently Eric Clapton is a dick. So that sucks.

Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin
May 12 2026

Man this record made me miss this wonderful woman. She had an amazing voice and this enthusiasm that just oozes out of your speakers. The backing vocals and instrumentals are also just stellar, making this a worthy addition to the 1001. A joy to listen to. 9/10

Ray Of Light by Madonna
May 13 2026

This is such a strange record. It tries to be many things, blending styles from EDM and pop, but often fails to stick the landing. It just isn't cohesive and honestly, Madonnas singing isn't a good addition to the record. It's just a strange blend between pop-y style vocals and kinda trippy instrumentals. What's worse is that while the instrumentals are all over the place, the vocals are just mostly the same in every track. Blending genres can be done well, as is seen in Janelle Moneé's Archandroid, but this record just shows how hard it can be. At least Madonna tried something new, something which can't be said about many of the records on this list. 6/10

Horses by Patti Smith
May 14 2026

Too folky for my taste. I like the tone of her voice though. Not too much to say about this

KIWANUKA by Michael Kiwanuka
May 15 2026

A modern classic that I've been meaning to give a listen for a long time. An amazing example of the amazing music that has come out the last few years. An absolute shame that so much of this list of 1001 is filled with 60's - 80's records with a single hit while absolute pieces of art like this exist. This album is grand, tells an amazing story blending influences from jazz, blues and soul into a beautiful tapestry of sound. I have literally nothing negative to say about this record. I guess it has some slower songs like "Hard to Say Goodbye", but this song is good enough to be the absolute top of many other records on this list. An absolute 10/10

My Generation by The Who
May 18 2026

Yep, that's a 3. Apprently there are like 5 records of these guys on this list. Why? I can't imagine all five added something to music. We'll see.

May 19 2026

It's fun and playful. The sound engineering is a little whack though. Not a record I think you HAVE to have heard. Somewhat better than a lot of the other brit pop/rock on this list. However that is a very low bar. 5/10

Vauxhall And I by Morrissey
May 20 2026

I feel like I have heard this album atleast 5 times before on this list. It is genuinely boring and uninspiring. The old heads that made this list should get their heads out of their asses and listen to anything made after 1990.

Call of the Valley by Shivkumar Sharma
May 21 2026

What an amazing record. I drifted away completely to another place and another time. A true treat. The instrumentation is amazing and fresh like a mountain spring. So much so that I had to look up which instruments were used in this amazing work. I have a new appreciation for a whole new genre of music and I thank this list for this. I have no metric to compare this piece of art so I'll just give it a 10/10 as this is now the standard.

Floodland by Sisters Of Mercy
May 22 2026

80's goth rock sounds cool, but is just samey and boring. The same few melodies and bass lines keep repeating while accompanied by husky deep voiced vocals. It's too slow to be invigorating, too fast to be chill. It exists in a strange middle place. This isn't a critique against this record but against the genre as a whole. Goth seems to be more about the aesthetic than the music itself. Everyone knows what goths look like, but people (at least those not young in the 80's) rarely know what the music sounds like. Still this record knows its niche and dives hard for it. It isn't bad, just really not my thing. 5/10

Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers
May 25 2026

This is a difficult record to rate. On one hand it's iconic, catchy and has some genuinely amazing hooks and songs on it. On the other hand it also has some stinkers on the second half and is mixed atrociously. I just wish a it would be remastered from the ground up because it could be a great record, but I just can't listen to a lot of the songs, even the good ones without kinda hurting my ears. A real shame. 4/10

May 26 2026

As I am listening to this record the first rainfall in a few weeks is hitting ground. The air is filled with the musky smell of petrichor as the ground sucks in the much needed moisture. It is a smell that puts me at ease for as long as I've lived. This record is like that smell. It is soul. 5/5

In Utero by Nirvana
May 27 2026

An interesting album, due to its context and contents. It's context is well known, so I'll leave that aside. A lot more 'rough' than most Nirvana songs that I have heard, which makes sense. The more poppy numbers do better with a general audience. Still I like most of the songs on this record. They are not just rough, but they carry emotion and have catchy riffs. Some songs Scentless Apprentice and Tourette's are not my thing, but hey they are good artistic expression. I have added a few songs to my playlists and I found it an interesting listen front to back. Nirvana lives up to the hype. 8.5/10

Low by David Bowie
May 28 2026

I don't see how this has meaningfully contributed to music history. It's kinda weird, like alien circus music, but not in a way that is THAT out there. I guess it's better than other Bowie Albums as he is singing less and generally the vibe is more chill. Still I dont hear anything that would make me want to ever revisit this record Another bowie record that is a miss for me.

Tago Mago by Can
May 29 2026

This may be the strangest record on this list, which is saying a lot. The first four songs would be the strangest songs on any other record, but on Tago Mago, they are the regular ones. These songs are really interesting and fun to listen to. They are the kind of songs you have to pay attention to the whole way through though. They take you on a journey, and you need to follow the journey every step of the way, otherwise you'll get lost. But what a magical journey it is. That is until all semblance of sanity dissolves during the last two minutes of Halleluwah, which up to that point was a rather normal track. The following half hour I tried to follow, but sadly I got lost in the insanity ridden poisonous swamp of Tago Mago. Maybe it's good that it doesn't make sense, because if it did, it would probably mean I myself have descended into insanity. Then, the last song is just normal again? Like waking up from a strange trip, the titular song is what I then would say: Bring me Coffee or Tea. Overall a strange, but wonderful experience. Will I ever listen to it again? Perhaps if I ever have a free day to smoke copious amounds of weed and see if this time I make it through the swamp. Until then, I'll leave this experience where it belongs, my memory. 8/10.

Who's Next by The Who

I was not prepared to be reminded of CSI New York on this monday morning. This record is pretty okay. Not much of it stands out. It's the grandfather of poprock, which makes it definitely influential and worthy of being on this list. However that does not make it memorable. I do have to say it does not really sound like it's from the 70's. If you put a gun to my head, I'd have guessed either the 80's or 90's. It starts strong, but quickly loses steam. It has some really mid ballad-y songs and more folky songs, which are just meh. Behind Blue Eyes is pretty good, but that means this record only has two decent songs. Luckily the record has a short run time. 6/10

Aqualung by Jethro Tull
Jun 02 2026

You can have a little flute as a treat. I don't care what other reviews say, any instrument can rock if you play it with attitude and that's exactly what this band does. This record went by in a flash. It doesn't suffer from the common prog rock pitfall of being too grating at times or including 10 min interludes of ambient sounds. It's more on the normy side of prog rock, but that still makes it more interesting and experimental than 95% of the music on this list so that's fine by me. A wonderful combination of a broad array of instruments and sounds with a variety of interesting messages about how we view the homeless, religion and more. 5/5

Bright Flight by Silver Jews
Jun 03 2026

Sad, slow and folky songs aren't my thing. Silver Jews isn't gonna change that. It's mixed very well and this would be a plus, if this didn't mean you could hear the bad vocals so well. I can say that the vocalist's voice fits the tone in the sense that he sounds pathetic. Atogether, it's just pretty bad. I have heard no songs on this record that could at least partially redeem this record. The one good thing I found in this track is the tennesee joke. It's so hilariously bad that it's kind of charming. But I am obviously grasping for straws. 2/10

Larks' Tongues In Aspic by King Crimson
Jun 04 2026

Where In the Court of the Crimson King is an ethereal record that sounds like a myth being told to you, this record sounds like three goblins standing around a couldron throwing in random sheit to create a potion that will either destroy them or make them invulnerable. I don't know what I just listened to, but I mostly like it?

Our Aim Is To Satisfy by Red Snapper
Jun 05 2026

Electronic records take up a strange place in this list. It feels like for every electronic record there are at least 4 folky singer songwriter records and yet, people complain that there are too many. People write this record off in particular as just simple electronic music without merit. I tend to disagree. People fail to recognize, partly due to the very short description, that this record isn't purely electronic music at all. There is an entire band behind this. When you look at this record in that way, it's actually rather interesting and fresh for its time. As I'm not that familiar with this genre and time of music, I don't know if its place on the list is merited. However, there are many many records that really don't deserve it simply because they are bad, and this record is not one of them. Now to talk about the record itself instead of about reviews: The record sets a good vibe. It blends a more trip-hoppy atmosphere with punchy drums, funky bass and vocals. It's actually really similar to a lot of modern drum and bass tracks in that way. The real instruments do add a very nice quality to the songs. I've always found that live instrumentation makes tracks like these less repetetive and soulful. It's good music to put on and listen to in the background. It's not a record that has blown me away, but it has pleasantly surprised me. 8/10

Jun 08 2026

Now this is the kind of folk music I appreciate. I don't think it's punky at all, but the spirit may lie in the lyrics which I for the life of me cannot comprehend. This record has two things holding it back. The length and the awful christmas song. I would've given it an 8, but those knock it down to a 7. I REALLY hate christmas songs.

Jun 09 2026

Nah. I tried to listen to the first song, but it's just the anthesis of what I like in music. It's just mediocre poetry sung in a grating voice accompanied by two chords on the guitar. I can understand why Bob Dylan is on this list, but there is no good reason why he should be here 7 times. I am not going to waste an entire working day listening to him, so I won't. I am vetoing Bob Dylan.

2112 by Rush
Jun 10 2026

This record sounds like a trip across the globe with friends to defeat an ancient evil. Really good and fun, but it's missing a certain oomph to pull it into the 9/10 territory. 8/10

Fuzzy Logic by Super Furry Animals
Jun 11 2026

Started off okay, but got worse each song. Still somehow better than the beatles.

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
Jun 12 2026

Some have described parts of this record as manic or with high tension. This made me actually look forward to this record. This is what made me push through the first few songs which were just plain boring. Than I realised, some of these are supposed to be "the manic" ones such as the ledge. Apperently manic sounds like a room of white 50 year olds linedancing. I have to give it to them "the Ledge" and "That's enough for me" are the highlights, but only because the rest of the songs are dreadfully boring and unispired. No surprise this is one of their less popular record. But the question remains, why is it on this list? I am not even going to pretend I finished this monsterously long record. I have better things to do. 2/10 which is a point for every song I didn't hate.

Dusty In Memphis by Dusty Springfield
Jun 15 2026

I did not expect much, maybe another mediocre folk musician from the 60/70's but this record blew that out of the water. Some pretty nice soul. Not much that really blew me away, but pleasant.

Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix
Jun 16 2026

I am blessed to have similar features as the great late Jimi Hendrix. Because of this I am often approached by people on the street to tell me I look like him. I see this as a great privilege, because Jimi might be one of the most gifted musicians of the past century. This record reflects that genius. I will admit that it's an acquired taste. It is more jazzy and experimental than his other works, but this is in my opinion where he shines. Pure musicality distilled into 1 hour and 15 minutes. I often wonder what the world would be like if we got even four more years of Jimi. We will never know, but I am thankful for what we got. Next year I am dressing as Jimi for Halloween, that's for sure. 9/10

The Message by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
Jun 17 2026

Corny AF but enjoyable. One of the grandfathers of rap. Many of the samples used are laced with funk and disco which give it some much needed spice. The lyricism is pretty mediocre, but Flash at least tries to talk about important topics in an easily understandable way. The simple lyrics and rhyming schemes make sense for the time as rappers used to be hypemen at parties. A few songs I will revisit, or atleast look up the sample off. On this list with good reason, but very dated. 7.5/10

A Seat at the Table by Solange
Jun 18 2026

A beautiful laid back RnB record. Little slower than I am used to enjoying, but the sheer quality makes up for it. Perfect to put on during a nice sunday. I adore musicians who (at least partly) produce their own music. You can feel the difference in artistic expression and cohesion in their records and Solange is a great example of this. Solanges music ofcourse draws comparison to Beyonce's records. Where Beyonce's voice is a big bombastic megaphone, Solanges voice is a clear spring filled with cool fresh water. I also rather like her approach in tackling social issues, something her sister can learn something from. People should compare Beyonce to her clearly more talented sister, not the other way around. Difficult to rate. On the one hand I don't see myself quickly putting this record on again as it just isn't music I tend to listen to, but I have to acknowledge the quality of this record. 8.5/10

Jun 19 2026

A really interesing record. I did not know this song was a movie score to be honest until reading other reviews halfway through the record. That is a merit, as generally movie scores don't make good records. Its dark, ambient but also rather trippy. It has some good almost drum and bass like beats, but also offers some more slow songs. The leitmotif has a unsettling quality to it. Many songs have this, combined with some excellent synthesizer songs it creates a very suffocating feeling. Very good music to put on in the background that still demands some of your attention due to its interesting progressions and instrumentation. Very fitting for halloween. I kinda wonder why it's on this list. I guess it's pretty experimental, or maybe the author just really liked this movie and this score. Who knows. 8/10

Tres Hombres by ZZ Top
Jun 22 2026

Three men, drinkin' some bourbon while talkin' shit and watchin' the game. 3/5, a point for each man

Remain In Light by Talking Heads
Jun 23 2026

Strange, bizarre even. The record does some interesting things, but it often sounds like the artists just noodling on their guitars/synths and singing random notes which range from okay to just bad. It feels very random = good. For instance Houses is very funky and sounds like a great jam session, until the thing that sounds like a long fart comes in. The fart leaves, making the song groovy again, only for it to return again and again. It's like they replaced a great trumpet solo with farts. Why?? Some songs lean more into funky or afrobeat influences and less into random sounds and are much better. The drums and bass do some heavy lifting as they are the ones that keep the songs sounding like songs and they do so very well. But because they have to keep steady they have little room to change it up. The result, songs that do strange things on a surface level, but sound repetitive once you start digging deeper. If they were gonna be strange, they should've leaned into it completely and do some beat switches halfway through or just anything different with their drum and bass. A pioneering band that pushed the envelope and incorporated cool styles into their music, but as an album not pleasant to listen to. I genuinely feel tired after listening to this record. I prefer the drummer and bassists' side project Tom Tom club where they still sound strange, but have more room to make good sounding music. 6/10

The Hissing Of Summer Lawns by Joni Mitchell
Jun 24 2026

Another day, another Joni Mitchell record. I have nothing against her, but she doesn't make music for me. I will say that the instrumentation on this record is a lot more interesting than the others I've given a listen, but still not enough to keep my attention.

Hypocrisy Is The Greatest Luxury by The Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy
Jun 25 2026

Concious rap is very hit or miss. The message has to make enough room for good flow and beats. This record does an OK job in that regard. The beats are darky funky and have some experimental sounds. The lyrics can sometmes be a little corny such as in my opinion in "Television, the drug of the nation" but his takes are very true and relevant even today. I also appreciate the range of topics discussed in this record. The nature of hate, discrimination, Palestine, technology, political activisim in music and probably more. His takes are pretty nuanced for a record from the 90's. This is especially interesting because other records on this list from the same period or even more recent include things like casual homophobia. Will I listen to this again? Probably not, unless I am feeling especially introspective on todays problems. I do listen to concious/activist music, but it is often the more energetic/manic songs like "Hypocrisy is the greatest luxury" that I am drawn to. 7.5/10

Metallica by Metallica
Jun 26 2026

Difficult to rate. Love it or hate it, this record contains some iconics tracks. It also contains songs that you will most likely never hear outside of the context of the album as they are completely forgettable. Not bad, just kind of metallica flavoured white noise. Don't get me wrong, this record has some great highs with an excellent start in Enter Sandman. However, it quickly loses steam and sticks to repetetive riffs that sound the same across songs. I thought "...And Justice For All" was a little bit simple at times, but here they seemed to have turned up the dial to max. I get it, everything for commercial success, but it's kinda sad. Especially when they do somethhing different such as in "Wherever I may Roam" where they actually use an arabian scale the song instantly becomes 10x more interesting. But maybe I am just a music hipster. Still the riffs are generally good, the drums punchy and you can actually hear the bass in this mix for a change! This record could have easily become a 10/10 if they tried a little harder instead of making songs that sound like the sole purpose is to complete a tracklist so they have a place to sell their singles. 8/10

Parklife by Blur
Jun 29 2026

One of the more decent britpop/rock records I have heard on this list. Not a high bar, because a lot of it has been pretty mediocre. It's fun, playful and has decent instrumentation. I keep forgetting Damon Albarn is in this band so I was kinda shocked to hear his voice randomly pop up.

OK Computer by Radiohead
Jun 30 2026

Too much radio, not enough head. What can I say? It's anti-britpop: sad, progressive and try-hard. This makes it (in my opinion) automatically better than most it's contemporaries. It is however often way too whiny and not their best record, which is In Rainbows. That comparison isn't fair as that record contains some of hmy favourite songs to exist. Still, OK computer has some gorgeous instrumentation, with tight drumming, sweeping guitars and when the whiny vocals do click with you, there is nothing like the agonizing, crushing sadness and self-loathing of a radiohead song. Art exists to make you feel things and radiohead are kings of this. Favs: Exit Music(For a Film), Karma Police, climbing up the walls. 8/10

Butterfly by Mariah Carey
Jul 02 2026

Mariah got pipes. That's all though. Very standard late 90's popballad album. Don't really see why it's on the list.

Guero by Beck
Jul 03 2026

I kind of enjoyed listening to this record while biking. It did nothing to pull me in and felt a tad long.

Bitches Brew by Miles Davis
Jul 06 2026

Musical horrors beyond my comprehsion. 8/10

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Jul 07 2026

It's aight. I liked the bluesy parts, but the rest was forgetable.

Car Wheels On A Gravel Road by Lucinda Williams
Jul 08 2026

No. Country, like the country it comes from and its president, is a bloated corpse that deserves no attention. This list would not reach 500 without the copious amounts of country and britpop. Really shows the gigantic ego of the anglophone world.

The Cars by The Cars
Jul 09 2026

It's fun, but it hasn't aged all that well. Not like it's bad, but I can't imagine anyone discovering this in 2026 and thinking "Wow I really like this! From now on I am going to listen to the Cars." It's like white bread. Favourite: Just What I Needed Feels like the very definition of a 6/10.

Bossanova by Pixies
Jul 10 2026

The pixies sit on a strange place between punk rock and pop rock. On one hand their more messy screamy parts are too punky for me while their chord progressions and hooks are too poppy for my tastes. It's fine and the pixies have definitely had a big influence on the genre. I don't see why this specific record is on the list though. It isn't anything special in their discography as far as I know. 6/10

Rage Against The Machine by Rage Against The Machine
Jul 13 2026

I have a great love for metal, funk and music that criticizes power. This record has all three. The bass lines stink, the riffs go hard and the message is clear. Nothing more to say.

Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen
Jul 14 2026

According to the second most popular review, I must be a communist. Пролетарии всех стран, соединяйтесь!

Figure 8 by Elliott Smith
Jul 15 2026

Someone describes this as Dylan but then electric. I get that comparison, but that's not a merit for me as I don't like Dylans discography. It's a lot better than that though, even though I expected to dislike it. The "electric" parts really pulled the songs up a notch. The all around tone is bright, but somehow still sad in a way. I think the right word is poignant or if I wanna get even more woozy the japanese "Mono no ware". The feeling of saying goodbye to a friend you don't see often after spending a lot of time together or a breakup that also feels like a relief to finally be done. The fact that the artist apparently committe suicide makes this even more sad. I can imagine this feeling most likely pervaded his life, which is why it is reflected so strongly in his music. In this way the music is a great reflection of his soul, which I think is beautiful. If the record had less singer/songwriter/folk parts I'd perhaps even give this a 4/5 or 5/5, but as it stands I can't say enjoyed enough of the record to merit that. I have added some songs to my list however, which is why I rate it: 7.5/10

Jul 16 2026

This record really couldn't decide what it wanted to be. It wasn't bad, but I also didn't notice when it ended and spotify started playing different music. Thats says enough

Cut by The Slits
Jul 17 2026

70s british ska punk. Not my thing.

Moondance by Van Morrison
Jul 20 2026

The first song sucks, but the rest are kinda nice. On of the better more folky songs on this list.

White Light / White Heat by The Velvet Underground
Jul 22 2026

What is this? It's weird. It's artsy. It's not fun to listen to. The audio quality is atrocious. Did not hear much to redeem this.

Want Two by Rufus Wainwright
Jul 23 2026

The opening sound is straight out of a movie soundtrack. The rest of the record is much more poppy mostly. The instrumentation and production is overall pretty good. Not my kinda music though.

Welcome To The Pleasuredome by Frankie Goes To Hollywood
Jul 24 2026

What an interesting diverse record. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. It's very 80's, but it takes all the best things from that era and condenses it into a powerful funky record. It also contains some very well known bangers such as Relax. Their cover of war is not that good however. The original wins by a mile, but it is passable.

Natty Dread by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Jul 27 2026

Just a reggae record. Like all reggae it's nice but repetitive.

Fulfillingness' First Finale by Stevie Wonder
Jul 28 2026

Stevie Wonder does not miss. Although I as usual don't care too much for the ballads or religious songs, it is filled with sunshine and fuck. A little less amazing than his other works though.

BEYONCÉ by Beyoncé
Jul 31 2026

Damn JayZ must throw some D, cuz Beyonce seems to be really horny for him. Which makes the fact that he was probably cheating on her while they made this record kinda sad. The record is a little better than I expected. The production is tight and good, the vocals strong and overall vibe good. The lyrics are... very 2010's coded. A lot of references to drinking and sex. By todays standards they are ultra corny, but it was the vibe then. People needed their bread and circus. This entire record seems to have been made in some kind of lab to produce the highest possible quality pop that would make women drop their ass in the club and generate plays. If that is your measurement for music, this record is a 10/10. Would I say this record meaningfully contributed to music in some way. Nah. Has it and will it enterain a lot of people? Yeah.

Dire Straits by Dire Straits
Aug 03 2026

It is truly a shame I haven't given Dire Straits a listen earlier. Ofcourse I knew the Sultan of Swing, but this record is packed with great records. I will definitely be giving this record a few more listens atleast.

Paranoid by Black Sabbath
Aug 04 2026

Did not know Black Sabbath had this many big hits in a single record. The record is good and surprisingly laid back. At times it takes on an almost bluesy sound. It is strange that they helped pioneer a sound that nowadays sounds completely different.

Chirping Crickets by Buddy Holly & The Crickets
Aug 05 2026

Probably very influential at its time, but not that good. It's just very old pop that is fun to listen to as a novelty, but in the end is still pop.

She's So Unusual by Cyndi Lauper
Aug 06 2026

Honestly pretty surprising. 80's pop is more often miss than hit for me, but this record is actually very fun. It has some big hits, but the rest are actually pretty well made. As a vocalist Cyndi works overtime. It isn't easy to belt like she does on this record. The melodies are addictively catchy. If I was a teen in the 80's this would've defitively been my jam. It is just fun pop with not a lot of depth, but that's okay sometimes. Really makes me wonder why I haven't heard of her before while other 80's idols are more well known even though they often kinda suck. 8/10

Document by R.E.M.
Aug 07 2026

It's not bad. Just very okay. It's strange to think this was one day alternative rock as it now just sounds bland. It has some country influences, but that does not do it any good in my ears. Can't say I enjoyed it, but if this were playing somewhere I wouldn't want it to be turned off. 6/10

Axis: Bold As Love by Jimi Hendrix
Aug 10 2026

Another great record of Jimmi. It all went by in a long psychedelic funky rush. Altough psychedelic, it was all very listenable. I especially liked Spanish Castle Magic.

Urban Hymns by The Verve
Aug 11 2026

"Another artist/record I've never heard before. I wonder what this will be like." Is what I thought before that dang violin started playing and I was transported to a 2000's car commercial. Jokes aside a pretty decent record.

Bone Machine by Tom Waits
Aug 12 2026

Tom Waits has a bone to pick. Interesting record, but one I can imagine ever putting on for a casual listen. I am not one to pay much attention to lyrics, but this record def had some interesting things to say.

Aug 13 2026

A fun ride, but too juvenile if you ask me. This is a shame because the beats and their flow is great. However the lyrics are often icky and at a point even transpobic. Not too surprising for its time, but I have also heard rap from this era that didn't fall into this pitfall, so it's not a valid excuse.
