GI by Germs
Dec 03 2025
Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Dec 05 2025
The Chronic by Dr. Dre
Dec 06 2025

Beats and sampling are innovative and fun but the lyrics full of misogyny, violence, and profanity detract from the overall creation. Despite Dre being in his late 20’s feels like he’s permanently stuck in adolescence.

At Budokan by Cheap Trick
Dec 06 2025

Was a little excited when this popped up next in the album rotation. Live Rock album. All right! But after first listen it’s a meh. Songs rock, and live recording adds energy but keep thinking how is this album and band different than the plethera of other stadium rockers during this era??? My unfamiliarity with much of the songs probably didn’t help. Maybe with another listen this album would grow on me. For now 3 stars.

Let's Get It On by Marvin Gaye
Dec 07 2025

What an album. Starting off with the classic “Let’s get it on” and only getting more sensuous as it goes. Smooth R and B for all occasions. Rated 426 on Rolling Stones top 500 albums. Agreed. Going to add a decimal to the star system. 3.8 stars.

British Steel by Judas Priest
Dec 08 2025

All I knew of Judas Priest was the song Turbo Lover. This album widened my appreciation of the group. The songs rock although the lyrics are lacking. Flat out fun! 3.5 on my scale.

Illmatic by Nas
Dec 09 2025

Enjoyed the beats and the lyrics. Think it’s better than The Chronic which came out 2 years before. Ranked 44 on Rolling Stones top 500 albums. 3.8 on my scale.

A Northern Soul by The Verve
Dec 10 2025

Psychedelic wall of sound. Grows on you. Like fungi. My rating 3.3

Alien Lanes by Guided By Voices
Dec 11 2025

Loud. Unpolished. Beatlesque? Noisy. Experimental. It’s like they had fragments of songs and then added music and recorded it. Even with that, some of them are catchy. My rating 2.5

Fromohio by fIREHOSE
Dec 12 2025

Notes of early REM, Violent Femmes. Great musicianship. Songs ok. My rating 2.3

Revolver by Beatles
Dec 13 2025

I mean it’s the Beatles. Enough said. My rating 4.8

Dig Me Out by Sleater-Kinney
Dec 14 2025

The songs aren’t bad but that voice. Whoa. Is it a choice? Is a result of stretching her voice? Either way, it distracts from most of the songs. My rating 2.8

Traffic by Traffic
Dec 15 2025

It was fine. My rating 3.2

If You Can Believe Your Eyes & Ears by The Mamas & The Papas
Dec 16 2025

Harmonies blend nicely on these catchy folk pop tunes. Can see why they were liked in the 6Os. My rating 3.3

Metallica by Metallica
Dec 17 2025

Great rocking album. Metal made accessible to the masses. Musicianship spot on and lyrics well thought out. Amazing. Still, a 4.4 on my scale.

Bad by Michael Jackson
Dec 18 2025

The King of Pop at the height of his powers before all the Ickiness kicked in. The bass lines drive all the hits and the synthesizers freeze it into a certain time and place. My rating 3.6

Pretenders by Pretenders
Dec 19 2025

Punk pop perfection. This debut album is a nice introduction to what the 80s sound will become. My rating 4.2.

The Scream by Siouxsie And The Banshees
Dec 21 2025

My rating 2.8

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Dec 23 2025

Fantastic! Top to bottom. Complete listen. My rating 4.8

Basket of Light by Pentangle
Dec 24 2025

British Folk music. Not my bag, but the songs grew on me the longer I listened. My Rating 2.8.

Caetano Veloso by Caetano Veloso
Jan 14 2026

My Rating 2.4. Not for me. I have enjoyed other Latin selections on this list but this one fails to impress.

Armed Forces by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Jan 18 2026

My rating 3.8. Loved it. Screams 80s new wave.

Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem
Jan 20 2026

Quite enjoyed this. My rating 3.5

Kid A by Radiohead
Jan 21 2026

My rating is 3.3.

Electric Warrior by T. Rex
Jan 24 2026

My rating 3.0. Besides Bang a Gong and Jeepster what do you really have???? Mediocre pop.

Haunted Dancehall by The Sabres Of Paradise
Jan 25 2026

My rating 2.6. See beginnings of electronica and industrial but seems incomplete.

Back To Black by Amy Winehouse
Jan 26 2026

My rating 4.2 Fabulous album. Love the nostalgia sounds alone side the cutting lyrics. Just Great.

Guero by Beck
Jan 27 2026

My Rating 3.8 Fun, meandering album with styles taken from all over the place.

Phrenology by The Roots
Jan 28 2026

My rating 3.2

Public Image: First Issue by Public Image Ltd.
Jan 29 2026

My rating 1.2 This is a bunch of self important pretentious crap. Even he can’t believe people bought this con.

Songs Of Leonard Cohen by Leonard Cohen
Feb 01 2026

My Rating 2.0. How can you make this album sound so sad and boring when you have templates already set up for you to transform your poetry into something insightful and catchy???? See Dylan (Freewhelin Bob Dylan) and Simon and Garfunkel ( Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme)

Wild Is The Wind by Nina Simone
Feb 02 2026

My rating 3.2. Loved the first song and appreciated the political nature of the second but after that got bored with the string of overly melodramatic torch songs. I guess not for me. Maybe give it another listen???? &&&&

On The Beach by Neil Young
Feb 03 2026

My rating 3.4. I’m just not a Neil fan. The longer I listen the more I think , ok, but what’s the fuss about????

Underwater Moonlight by The Soft Boys
Feb 05 2026

My rating 3.2. I enjoyed this. One of the reasons I like this experiment. The chance to listen to artists that you haven’t heard of but enjoy.

Joan Baez by Joan Baez
Feb 06 2026

My rating 3.0 Enjoyed the variety of songs included and her guitar and vocal work is excellent. I could do without the warbling but atleast it’s not on every song.

Protection by Massive Attack
Feb 09 2026

My rating 3.2. Reggae infused ambient electronica. Ok but nothing special. Liked Protection and Karmacoma.

Who's Next by The Who
Feb 10 2026

My rating 4.2. Really an amazing album. Not a bad song and different throughout. Incredible to me this came out in the early 70s with its use of synthesizer and guitar.

Destroyer by KISS
Feb 11 2026

My rating 2.4. Even with Detroit Rock City and Beth this album is bad. It leaves me thinking what was the Kiss phenomena all about??? it seems to me it was all theatrics covering up mediocre song writing and musicianship

Hard Again by Muddy Waters
Feb 12 2026

My rating 4.0. Excellent album but then again I love the blues. The line up is fantastic as is the execution.

Lam Toro by Baaba Maal
Feb 13 2026

My rating 2.6. Ok. I enjoyed the layered guitars but the wailing/singing got to be a bit much.

KIWANUKA by Michael Kiwanuka
Feb 14 2026

My rating 3.8. What a fantastic surprise. This is a great album. Love the mix of soul and R&B.

Peggy Suicide by Julian Cope
Feb 15 2026

My rating 3.8. This was another surprise. I really enjoyed the whole album despite only knowing him from World Shut Your Mouth.

Scum by Napalm Death
Feb 16 2026

My rating 2.0 The best I could say was I didn’t hate it. The low growling of the lyrics are nearly indiscernible but the wall of sound and noise from the instruments are jarring and profound. An all out assault to the ears.

The Next Day by David Bowie
Feb 17 2026

My rating 2.8. Not sure why this was released. Nothing new. Nothing exciting. His stint with Tin Machine was more inventive.

Feb 18 2026

My rating 2.6 Psychedelic. Sure. But also total nonsense. Once I realized that Syd Barrett was behind every song it all clicked. Having listened to his solo album from this list before this album you see the influence. I was not impressed with either.

The Blueprint by JAY Z
Feb 19 2026

My rating 3.0. Not bad. Liked the mix of rap and music

Brilliant Corners by Thelonious Monk
Feb 20 2026

My rating 3.6. My second jazz album and nearly as good as the first ( Kind of Blue).

Feb 23 2026

My rating 2.8. Not in my wheelhouse. This album shows they wanted to stay ahead or away from the upcoming Grunge wave that they helped usher in. That may have been a mistake.

Graceland by Paul Simon
Feb 24 2026

My rating is 4.3. I have always loved this album despite the many controversies surrounding appropriation.

Duck Rock by Malcolm McLaren
Feb 25 2026

My rating 2.6. It’s fine

It's A Shame About Ray by The Lemonheads
Feb 26 2026

My rating 3.1. Album became better the further along you listened but think other groups with the same sound did it better. Namely the Gin Blossoms.

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Feb 27 2026

My rating 3.3. This was better than the first offering of Young’s from this list (On the Beach). Again, songs are fine. Raw but from reading about it that’s what Young was aiming for.

Feb 28 2026

My rating 3.3. Experimental? Yes. You can see a blueprint for other bands but beyond the first song it’s just odd.

Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones
Mar 01 2026

My rating 4.2. Great must if blues, rock, and country. Loved the horns and Hammond organ.

Goodbye And Hello by Tim Buckley
Mar 02 2026

My rating 2.6. Medieval ballads pretending to be rock music.

Harvest by Neil Young
Mar 03 2026

My rating 3.2. 3rd Neil Young album. Want to listen to the three I order of release. Again, this is ok. Hit songs (Old Man and Heart of Gold) worth the price of admission but rest of album. Meh.

Opus Dei by Laibach
Mar 04 2026

My rating 3.2. German industrial prog rock. I’m here for it.

The Colour Of Spring by Talk Talk
Mar 05 2026

My rating 2.8. Nope not for me. Worst version of 80s music.

Frank by Amy Winehouse
Mar 08 2026

My rating 2.4. Why is this on here??? Did we really need 2 Amy Winehouse albums on this list? And besides that it’s just not very good.

Make Yourself by Incubus
Mar 09 2026

My rating 3.0. Loud guitars and bass along with catchy lyrics and drums. Not bad.

Rid Of Me by PJ Harvey
Mar 11 2026

My rating 3.2

Tonight's The Night by Neil Young
Mar 12 2026

My rating 3.3. Neil! Again?!?! Fourth album of his that I’ve reviewed. Nothings changed. Still don’t get the draw.

Closer by Joy Division
Mar 13 2026

My rating 3.4

What's Going On by Marvin Gaye
Mar 14 2026

My rating 3.8. An album very much of a time. You can just hear the turbulence in the music with so much change that was happening in the U.S. He captured all of it, the good, the bad , and the ugly in this album.

Pyromania by Def Leppard
Mar 17 2026

My rating 3.4. So much nostalgia wrapped up in this album that when it came up I was excited. Then I listened to it. Doesn’t hold up. The hits are the hits but most of it is pretty mediocre.

Exile On Main Street by The Rolling Stones
Mar 18 2026

My rating 3.6. Another Stones album I had heard of but hadn’t listened to. It was great. Raw and noisy. Just a fun time all the way through.

Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits
Mar 19 2026

My rating 3.6. Another nostalgia trip for me. The classics like Walk of Life and Money for Nothing were fine but didn’t really wow like when it came out. The other songs however still shine. It’s like the hits obscured them but with time those fade and the other songs on the album are able to stand out.

Horses by Patti Smith
Mar 20 2026

My rating 2.6. Critics tell you this album needs to be respected. I respectfully disagree.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Mar 21 2026

My rating 4.0 Good album.

Penance Soiree by The Icarus Line
Mar 22 2026

My rating 2.8 The first song puts you off but the rest of the album is worth a listen.

Dig Your Own Hole by The Chemical Brothers
Mar 23 2026

My rating 2.0. Boring heavily sampled electronica.

Document by R.E.M.
Mar 24 2026

My rating 4.2. This album is another nostalgia ride for me and also right in my wheelhouse. Love every bit of this record.

Dust by Screaming Trees
Mar 25 2026

My rating 3.3

Black Monk Time by The Monks
Mar 26 2026

My rating 3.4. It’s Monk time! Garage rock tgat you didn’t know you needed!

Immigrés by Youssou N'Dour
Mar 27 2026

My rating 3.2. More World music. Appreciate the exposure but most of it is lost on me.

Dookie by Green Day
Mar 31 2026

My rating 3.8. Great album. Just one catchy pop punk song after another.

Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
Apr 01 2026

My rating 4.7 Better then the 2 Beatles albums I have at 5 stars or Kinda Blue by Miles Davis? No. But close. Appreciate the progression from Revolver to Pet Sounds to Sgt. Peppers. Who knew the band that was going to push the Beatles was The Beach Boys?!?

Too Rye Ay by Dexys Midnight Runners
Apr 02 2026

My rating 2.3. One hit wonders.

Dummy by Portishead
Apr 04 2026

My rating 3.8. I really enjoyed this album. Nice find.

A Hard Day's Night by Beatles
Apr 10 2026

My rating 4.0. Another Beatles album another classic.

Hot Fuss by The Killers
Apr 11 2026

My rating 3.2 beyond the hits Mr Brightside and Somebody Told me not much stood out. Exceptions were All These Things and maybe Andy your a Star. Rest fine but pretty standard alt pop.

Low by David Bowie
Apr 12 2026

My Rating 3.6.

Fear Of A Black Planet by Public Enemy
Apr 14 2026

My rating 3.3. Liked their first album better but this still rocks

Apr 15 2026

My rating 3.4 This was quite enjoyable

Blur by Blur
Apr 21 2026

My rating 3.4

The Beach Boys Today! by The Beach Boys
Apr 30 2026

My rating 3.0 Moving on from the surf life but not that impressive.

90 by 808 State
May 03 2026

My rating 2.6. Now it’s sounds old and stale but take into account they this came out in the late 80s and you have to give it more respect.

L.A. Woman by The Doors
May 04 2026

My rating 3.6. Bluesy. Fun. Think most of the Doirs music is under appreciated.

evermore by Taylor Swift
May 08 2026

My rating 3.2. I liked Folklore more but to put out 2 double length albums in such a short time is impressive.

Songs For Swingin' Lovers! by Frank Sinatra

Paul Simon by Paul Simon
May 12 2026

My Rating 3.4 Interesting start to a long successful solo career.

Like A Prayer by Madonna
May 13 2026

My rating 3.2 What a weird little album. Such a departure from anything previous. Many songs overshadowed by the controversy surrounding the title song and the subsequent video. Liked the Prince collab.

Chirping Crickets by Buddy Holly & The Crickets
May 15 2026

My rating 2.8. I bet this was ground breaking when it debuted but now it seems tired.

Surfer Rosa by Pixies
May 18 2026

My rating 3.2 Besides where is my mind what do you really have. Heavily liked by critics. 🤷‍♂️

Nilsson Schmilsson by Harry Nilsson
May 25 2026

My rating 3.4. This was a surprise. You may have known the song but didn’t know the artist

Station To Station by David Bowie
May 26 2026

My rating 3.7 I like other Bowie albums better but this was still very good.

Third by Portishead
May 27 2026

My rating 2.8. This didn’t need to be on this list.

Rip It Up by Orange Juice
May 29 2026

My rating 2.3. A million pleading faces and Can’t help myself are great. The rest of the album is mostly crap.

Odessey And Oracle by The Zombies
May 30 2026

My rating 3.3 This is quite lovely. The harmonies and orchestration make it a pleasant listen.

Innervisions by Stevie Wonder
Jun 02 2026

My rating 3.7. Pleasant surprise. New of other Wonder albums but had. It heard this one. Speaks to the same problems occurring in the USA as Marvin Gaye’s masterpiece, What’s Going On.
