Bangers. No skips. Groovy.
Do not like Japlin's voice at all. Lowkey ruins some of the songs. The songs themselves aren't very memorable. Would not listen to again.
Interesting melodies and bjork's voice is phenomenal. BUT. The lyrics are very "baby's very first writing" and they detracted a lot from the songs. And there are songs I outright didn't like.
I hate jazz. This was no exception.
Love this with my whole heart. Some of the most iconic sounds. Encapsulates total heartbreak. No other album with similar themes even comes close.
Some of the cringiest lyrics I've heard with some of the cringiest delivery too. The melodies are bland too and the songs just bleed into each other. Had an abysmal time listening to this.
Nice listen. Great start, the middle is a bit bloated, but everything picks right up towards a very great end.
Groovy and solid throughout. Even the more serious songs towards the end are such a good bop.
Whole album is dogshit. Dogshit lyrics throughout. I do not care about your Americanisms. Same-sounding songs. If there's an inkling of an interesting melody, it's not utilized at all. The singer cannot sing for shit. How the fuck did this get on this list.
A nice listen but nothing too memorable.
Just no. Almost non-existent lyrics. The melodies are so whatever.
Classic. Banger after banger <3
Super good. Ahead of it's time. Had a blast.
Tragically boring and inconsistent.
Pretty good but it does get a bit tedious to listen to towards the end.
Was okay, nothing special.
A bunch of uninteresting Americanisms. Sounds like the dudes just wanted to play around with riffs and melodies, and the lyrics were a completely afterthought. But even the melodies do not sound good or impressive.
Such a mixed bag. You have some genuinely good songs on this, but they're instantly ruined by the several bad songs. Like, where's the consistency???
Objectively good music but it's just not for me. The album cover is also tragic.
Boring and the album cover is ugly.
A classic but I just don't care for it.
As always, Morrissey delivers.
Some really banging music brought down by nonsensical intermissions.
A bunch of boring American bullshit.
Started out promising but it fizzled out towards the end. The tracks are too long, a lot of the speaking segments are just pure cringe, some of the songs feel like they shouldn't even be on the album they're just too different.
So they made shitty music from the start and didn't improve even an inch? Incredible. This is just a mish-mash of songs that don't go well together, the melodies are boring, and even if there is a more interesting riff or something, it just disappears, never to be heard from again. The singer just can't sing, and his voice is so grating too, and the backing vocals aren't better either. Had a dogshit of a time listening to this.
Had such a great time listening to the whole album. Full of bangers, great melodies, and great vocal work. An experimental trip all the way through (lovingly).
Genuinely, why is this album on this list? It's so boring in every aspect and all over the place. Is it because it has several famous musicians that worked on it? Well, they did a shitty job, it's not even cohesive. Plus, this album had like zero cultural impact, so what are we doing???
Mot bad but not great either. Wouldn't listen to this again.
One of the few rap albums that I actually like listening to.
This is the problem with bands like Motorhead - all of their music sounds the same, and this album just proves that. Felt boring and same'ish throughout. Plus, this is the live version, so we have to pointlessly listen to all the dedications and unintelligible crowd work before each song. These should've been cut out, they add nothing to the album, and actually make it worse. Did not even listen to Disc 2 because suffering through Disc 1 was more than enough.
Pretty good, some nice sounds.
Great album, had a fun time listening.
Never liked country music and this album embodies everything country. Just not for me. At least it was really short.
Great listen. Morrissey comes off as the biggest loser with a massive ego but he makes it work.
Great album with some of the most iconic tracks. Very weird to listen to Kanye rap about Donald Trump and custody issues, considering what is currently happening in America and his personal life.
Whatever. Becomes repetitive very fast and you just start hoping that it ends soon. Not sure what this album is doing here.
Just did not like. Nothing like Staying Alive, which I guess is the only song I like from them. Some of the lyrics are godawful and cringe. Really dislike how the singer sounds weepy no matter what kind of song it is. He can't even hit some of the high notes. Having a song basically glorifying Israel is also such a choice - I understand that back then they probably did not know the scope of the atrocities happening there, but still, out of all places, fucking Israel???
Not a bad album, just not for me. Not in the right headspace for it. Everything sounded the same.
Cannot take this edgelord's music seriously. All of it is just shocking for shock value. Boring.
2013-me probably would've like this album/band. Current me just cannot get into it despite being a fan of synth music. The music sounds very dated, like you can tell that it came out in 2013. Some of the melodic choices in some songs also just clash together and take you out of the song, like it feels like some tracks weren't polished or just should've been scrapped altogether. Disliked the female singer's voice quite a lot, she sounds like a child singing and I just found that really unappealing on a primal level. Didn't like the male singer either, I don't think their voices match well. Also the lyrics are so juvenile and simplistic in a way I didn't enjoy at all.
A disappointing listen. Tainted Love, because it is so iconic, is the only highlight of the album.
Jesus fucking Christ I just do not care about this music. It all sounds the same, slow and boring. And all the themes are always the same, can you please get some new material or at least approach it from a new perspective.
Does nothing for me. Just kind of boring and meandering. The songs are about love and longing and it's just so tiring to listen to these at this point, like you're not saying anything new.
Phenomenal album. Raw and unhinged in the best way possible. Any time I listen to this, I can't help but go through my own downward spiral along with Trent Reznor, thinking about my own depression, angst, self-destructive behavior, delusions, just the whole thing. I just live through them again in each song.
After this session, I did get the thought that it kinda perfectly encapsulates having a manic episode where everything starts to feel unreal towards the end. And of course, what do you do when even your own body does not feel like it's actually there? You harm yourself, and in a twisted way, it helps so much in the moment.
The title track hit really hard this time. It's so melancholic and hopeful at the same time, especially considering that "Hurt" comes right after it.
Pretty nice listen, especially for a live album.
Not bad, but did not impress me at all. It's just not my type of music, reminds me too much of stuff my drunk uncles would play at a family gathering.
The first half of this album sounds like M.I.A. was handed a soundboard and she just mashed buttons randomly and decided all that noise is songs now. The second half is more cohesive with less random soundbites, but that doesn't save the album for me.
I do like the social commentary on this, but that's not enough to make it good.
The only song that I surprisingly liked is "20 Dollar" because it sounded completely different from the rest of the album. It was actually quite a banger, though M.I.A.'s shaky delivery at times did make me wince a bit.
"Paper Planes," of course, is the only song I knew from her before diving into this album. And it slaps. And it also sounds like it doesn't belong on this album.
First off, love his voice. Never heard anything by Leonard Cohen before so it surprised me in a very pleasant way. And I enjoyed the themes of the album, especially as someone who used to believe in god.
For me, the problem is that I feel misled? Catfished? The album is titled "You Want It Darker" and the first track is so dark and heavy and moody, especially melody-wise. I got really excited and foolishly thought that the rest is going to sound like that.
But it didn't. No other track comes close to match the sound of the title track and I was so disappointed. Looking at the subject matter and the lyrics of the other songs, it makes sense, but it just felt like whiplash? Lowkey soured the whole experience for me, so I didn't get much from this album.
Had such a great time listening to this.
~"You men eat your dinner, eat your pork and beans
I eat more chicken than any man ever seen."~
ICONIC
Very telling that when I heard the first song, I looked at the year this album came out and was like "Yeah, makes sense I guess."
The slurs really do the songs no justice. You can still portray racism without outright saying them. Like I can't imagine wanting to record an album, essentially immortalizing yourself, saying these things, even though they are "satire."
Also, how the hell was I supposed to clock that this is a concept album that's all satire? Only learned this from the comments here. And even then, it was very hard to perceive it? As a non-American, growing up I heard a lot of completely straight songs like these about living in America and being American (minus the slurs at least). All I'm saying is, satire is really hard to clock in music.
As for the songs themselves, well, it's all very bland and repetitive. It just becomes background noise after the 3rd song.
