1001 Albums Summary

An album that sounds like it has been written for the band itself, not for the listener - and that's the beauty of it.

While I can see why it was a hit back in 1994, I have missed it then (..I was just 6 years old) - and today, in 2026, it is still good but not timeless classics type of good. 3 out of 5, just out of respect for the past and for Damon.

Never been a fan of southern hip-hop. Yet, have to admit that So fresh so clean, Ms jackson, B.o.B. are absolute timeless bangers. 4 out of 5

It's clearly good, but for some reason I don't feel the soul behind it, only the brilliant commercial production. This is probably the reason of me forgetting this album has ever existed despite really liking it when it was released.

Never quite listened to the RS beyond obvious works, and this album has shown me a whole new side of them. This is certainly worth listening to.

As a cultural phenomenon, an illustration of how traditional folk music is evolving, I see why this album has its place in this list. Yet, it's repetitive and of little to no value outside of its niche.

One of solid examples of the 2000s acid jazz / trip hop scene, but in a way just one of many.

Didn't like it at all. Nearly puked at the Crown of Love - I guess this is how it sounds when someone's getting a shovel up their ass. There's a shitload of much better indie bands out there if someone's fancy.

My yesterday's album was from Arcade Fire - so terrible I couldn't even finish it. When I got this today, I thought for a second "oh shit another indie cry baby jerking off". Thankfully, it isn't. Thank you Arctic Monkeys.

It sounds nice on the surface, but I have played it 4 times and hardly even noticed. No substance, nothing special, just quality mimicking.

A nice and quirky little piece of rock (30 minutes.. let's call it a music pebble then). Not going to be one of my favorites, but certainly a good record for a day.

Bunch of truly epic songs that deserve 10 stars each, but bunch of shitty and mediocre ones too... So, as much as I love Queen and those epic songs out there, as a complete album it gets 4. Sorry folks.

I really like SAULT. Thankfully, I'm from a place that has zero issues with black, white, yellow, whatever - but in this particular case it makes this work's message completely irrelevant and even irritating at times. The music is solid though somewhat repetitive, and the album is overstretched. They have much better works.

As I understand it, the whole purpose of the 1001 Book & Project is to broaden one’s horizons, and this work fits perfectly. That’s the extent of it, though. Thanks, but no thanks. :)

I can get it why many people like this - but it just isn't for me. Too many high tones, and those stupid synths.. Meh. I'd rather go with Motorhead.

Were I born in US in 50s, I'd probably react differently, but today for me it's a complete miss. Dated poorly and has little to no relevance outside of its homebase. Right after this album ended, Spotify switched me to Joni Mitchell's Blue, issued on the same year, part of the same 1001 list, and boy that work is soooo much better! Cheers Dolly, I have places to be.

Some pleasant pop, I'd definitely prefer this over, say, BTS, but not much to highlight or add to my rotation either.

I haven't heard of these guys before (despite Spotify identifying my listening age as 89). This album was quite good but nothing special really, so I read the reviews and someone from the band's fans suggested to listen to their other album instead, Zen Arcade. And boy that's a completely different - and much better (to my taste) beast. So I'm putting 4 not really for this particular album but for the brand itself.

This is exactly why I like this list. I’d never heard of this group before, and their sound is not ordinary. While I didn't care for every track and won't be putting them on repeat, it was a great discovery. Interestingly, I caught a lot of familiar elements - hard to say who influenced whom - and overall, it was a pleasant listening experience. A strong four stars.

I've played it three times and, while I’ve been mildly enjoying some parts, the whole thing keeps slipping away - like being flashed by the Men In Black after every tune. A release so amazingly dull, that it becomes a masterpiece in that aspect. Now I know how sparrow's fart sounds like.

I can tell it's a good work but it's just not my cup of tea.

Much better than Girls Against Boys album of the same time period and somewhat similar style that I received the day before. And generally a good work, although I'm not a fan.

Some tunes are not bad at all, though it is too inconsistent.

Uff I'm so happy I was sober when I turned this on! This is smooth, interesting, and very well-crafted - just not for my daily rotation.

I got this album the next day after listening to their offspring Spiritualized - too much space shit in a row, so 2 points and I'm out without any regrets and without even finishing this 2-hour record. My ears hurt. Pew pew.

Detaching the art from the artist (and Reznor is super prominent here anyway), I thoroughly enjoyed this weird, twisted, and energetic work. Could've been shorter though, some tracks are fillers.

OD-ed Fleetwood Mac trying to conceive Scissors Sisters or what? While I have never been a fan of The White Stripes, I can't deny that they are talented and have solid songs - but this album is just bad (and the moustache doesn't make it any better..)

After this, my average score on this platform will significantly drop. I've been trying to find something positive in all these mediocre britpoppers, conceptual space rock hippies, and indie fartrockers, but nope, no more, thank you, 1 star it is.

Stephen steals your time with this polished yet very dull work

Yesterday I had Stephen Stills' "Manassas" album, and it was much worse. Well, not really worse, but boring AF. This is much better.

Not a fan but can't deny the quality and overall importance.

I've heard of Ozomatli (and some of their work), but they never really made it to my playlist. Now, listening to this one as part of the project, I see all the right names but this just doesn't click, something's missing. Can't say they're bad either, though, but would prefer Quantic or Orishas.
