I know this album inside out, bought the original. Just listened to the remaster and its still a great album today. Perhaps one average track on it, but the rest all get 5's from me
Chopsticks and yodelling in the middle of tracks says it all for me! Quite a few tracks with a single basic theme all the way through, extremely repetitive. I remember a couple of tracks which were decent, but there's way too many I wouldn't want to listen to again.
Not heard a few of these tracks for 20 years. Some really strong tracks at the start. A few tracks seem a bit whiney now, but still doesn't detract from a great album, just short of the 5 stars for me.
Every old Christmas song I've heard every year the whole of my life. It was like torture to hear them all at once. But I did try and listen with a fresh approach and not just as background music wherever you go from December onwards. Overplayed and not really anything more than a bunch of gimmicky songs. Production not for me, very indistinct instruments, apart from the sleigh bell sounds and brass. Silent night is truly awful, can do without the message thanks.
Real style over substance on this album, they did way better in later albums. Sultans of swing iconic but it doesn't carry the whole album. Sublime playing from Knopfler though. Songs just generally don't hold up that well.
Good album, couple of hits and some solid pop/rocky songs
Every song sounds like an ode to complete misery, even if it isn't meant to be. A real challenge to get through it. There are other albums where I've struggled to get through but not like this one, terrible.
At times chaotic, but given it was recorded in 1970 it was way ahead of its time. Raw tracks and mostly pared back production, an interesting album.
Thought I would really not enjoy this and not get through it, but actually listened to all the songs. Could see myself watching a live show in a club. Probably not sit listening, it feels more of a be there live type of thing.
Some brilliant tracks which still sound as good as when they first came out. A couple of songs short of a full 5 for me.
Good album, some great tracks and classics like maggie may. A few weaker tracks keep it from a 5
Absolute drivel! Some tracks the production is just awful.
Not for me. Mostly forgettable, a few songs I remember from the original chart hits, but too few to lift it.
If i could give this 0 I would. OK its kind of arty, probably best as an installation in a modern museum with flashing images, preferably nowhere near me.
Alex Harvey just had a way of delivering songs that made them different to the usual 70's rock. Zal Cleminson just a great underrated guitarist. Vambo not as strong as the other material, but still a strong album. Faith healer is certainly a classic track.
You can start to hear the influences from India and their development in song structure and experimentation. Some great songs like here there everywhere, eleanor rigby, got to get you into my life and tomorrow never knows. 3 or 4 tracks are really weak and detract from these a bit. For the unique sounds and quality of the great songs I'm going to just tip it into a 4
Interesting, some nice harmonies but overall not something I would return to.
A couple of iconic later Madonna songs, but mediocre supporting tracks.
Not really anything to say about this. Didn't think it was anything special, but conversely not a bad album.
Great album, just a couple of tracks short of a 5 for me.
A more interesting album than the previous one I listened to on here. Probably wouldn't give it a further listen though.
Quite liked this, solos tend to go on a bit though!
Album OK, but washed over me. Wouldn't be tempted to listen to again. Quite generic 60's blues for most of it
Not heard this for some time, its not a great album, very 80's guitars and mediocre vocals. Riffs are quite unmemorable.
Great album, well produced without going over the top. Enjoyed all the songs.
Wow! This is just pure noise for the sake of it. Weird distorted drums at the start should have warned me about what was to come. Jangly guitars and space sounds occasionally just irritated. Got to track 8 before I couldn't listen any more. Recognised one hit they had, but the rest was unlistenable.
Ballads are great, respect is a classic. However, tracks like don't let me lose this dream, good times and save me are just too bland.
The well known tracks are decent enough, the rest is a bit unmemorable. The end is a meandering mess
Fantastic album definite 5.
Has some great tracks, almost a 5 but there are 3 or 4 tracks which just bring it back to a 4, especially outro, really should have left it off.
Nile rodgers heavily influenced album from the first chord. 5 really great tracks, the others a bit mundane. Drums are a bit unimaginative in most of the songs. I do like his production on this though.
Great album, quite blues oriented, but lazy showcases jon lord and ritchie Blackmore at their best. Maybe I'm a Leo is a bit weak, but the rest of the album more than makes up for it.
I've never really liked most of what the stones produced or I've heard it too many times. This album is certainly full of forgettable tracks. There are some great tracks which I really like, but unfortunately would only fill one side of an LP.
Folky style with a bit or ragtime. Great folk guitar playing, songs are a mixed bunch, with most not holding my attention. A few standouts like Angie and Smokey river.
Never listened to this album all the way through before and its made no difference, Leonard Cohen just isn't for me. a few catchy tunes but can't get past some of the 'worst of the 80's' production.
Interesting album, but not something I'd return to. Too repetitive.
Bird Chirping gets a bit annoying at the start. Takes a while to get to the main theme, always starts as a bit of a ramble.
Some interesting songs, not sure if it works for me, but I wouldn't rule out another listen
Big band sound not to my taste. Great delivery on the vocal, but it becomes a bit samey after a few songs. I knew about half of the songs before listening so they are very familiar. Just not something I would go back and listen to again.
Wouldn't be on my list of things to ever listen to. Doesn't do much for me, uninspiring, but not a bad album by any means. Lonesome day, you're missing and the rising are the standouts for me.
Quite liked this album. Ambulance blues goes on a bit! Quite a good selection of songs. Fraction short of a 4 for me
I struggled with this and only got half way through before skipping and just listening to a minute of the other tracks. Never heard of the band or the album before and can honestly say I won't be looking them up in the future
Really couldn't get into this at all. I find the lyrics a really tough listen.
Its a nice album, but it doesn't push any boundaries and isn't particularly standout.
Uptempo songs are good, but I'm not a fan of the more folky ballads.
A few decent tracks, the rest forgettable reggae/ska songs
Enjoyed this album, captures a unique moment in Nirvanas career. Some great arrangements.
Quite enjoyed this. A few tracks where the repitiveness was a bit much, but overall I'd probably listen again.
Dissonance and soundscapes in a number of the tracks is triggering for tinnitus, sorry can't get into this at all.
Sorry this isn't for me. The opening bars reminded me of Bjork. The rest was just really meandering.
Full of guitar riffs which are very reminiscent of other songs.. I got batman, Norman Greenbaum, T Rex, The Jam, Elvis Costello. I actually ending up quite liking this album.
Sorry really not one I can get into. Can here influences on other music that came later, but can't get past the tone of the songs and the occasional out of tune guitar.
Really can't get into this, on any level.
An album of its time although a couple songs still hold up as standout.
Pleasant enough, but its an a style of music I wouldn't return to, other than background music.
Really liked this. A new find for me, will definitely listen to her later albums.
Nothing I haven't heard before. Pleasant enough.
Some interesting tracks, but not enough to keep my attention.
Album was ok, really of its time. Quite a basic production.
I know ginger isn't noted for playing simple rhythms and beats, but it does get a bit wearing when its all through a lot of the songs. A few classic songs but the rest forgettable, was expecting to like this a lot more than I did. Classic Clapton guitar work, but it doesn't save the weak songs. I can hear the basis of other classic later Cream tracks in some of the songs.
Really interesting album, some songs very experimental. A few pop style songs which come across quite well. Pretty unsure what to give this between 2 and a 3 as it's not something I would go back and listen to again.
Mostly repetitive beats and noises, which I find difficult to listen to. Nothing here for me to personally enjoy.
Jangly guitars, dodgy singing on I keep coming back, I probably won't. Lucky to get 2 on this.
Quite an eclectic mix of different styles. Quite enjoyed this, good production with a few really catchy songs.
Great album, only a few fillers here, surprising for a double album.
A bunch of standards carried out with enthusiasm, but ultimately below par for me.
Found this OK, but nothing inspiring.
Tries to use repetition to reinforce a simple theme and beat you into submission, doesn't work for me, just does my head in. Use of tacets is the only dynamic element the album has. Hey lets find a riff or a basic beat and just repeat it and sing stuff over it or even whistle! Lets go one further and repeat the words as well! Listen to the first 20 seconds and you've heard the song - OK generalisation but for most tracks thats true.
Overly long song graveyard train with mouth organ solo just goes nowhere, incredibly boring, keep on chooglin is as bad. Poor bassist playing this crap, at least the guitarist gets a solo. Proud Mary elevates it to a 2, just
OK album, listenable, but not inspiring
Unfortunately I'm not a fan of Eric, so many great guitarists overlooked in the 60's 70's due to media promoting him as the greatest. A one song album with a number of decent blues songs accompanying it. Always thought White room was his peak and everything else was just more of the same without a wah. Average.
Great album, classic songs, a couple of weak numbers, so a 4 from me
Surprised myself with this. Actually didn't mind it, some good songs, still a few with too much pointless misogyny for the sake of it
Jingly jangly pop, or depressing ballads. Not liked REM ever since I went to a gig and Stipe stared at me funny. Still, maybe give it a 3, its not terrible.
Folk coupled with Indian themed weirdness. Not for me, perhaps a curry house for some of it or a summer solstice event in an open field.
Mostly dreary, some songs unlistenable, but I pushed through!
Bit of a mixed bag, some nice ballads, but then some weird songs and electronica. Overall experience is a bit underwhelming.
This album lost me on a wave of phase. Not sure why this is thought to be the first time any of the sounds were heard on an album. Countless UK prog bands were experimenting with various early synths, Be Bop Deluxe used phasers on guitar. Don't get the praise for what is to me maybe experimental for Bowie, but not for the general music of that era. Not an unlistenable album, but way overrated by some, as is most of Bowies work.
Nice harmonies, a few decent tunes, but not something I would listen to anymore
Honestly don't know what this is trying to be. Managed half of it before giving up. Hope it's his only entry!
A few absolutely classic Stevie Wonder tracks. Great production given the age of the album. Just misses a 5 from me as few songs didn't hit the mark.
Such a great album. Terrific production. Only the last 2 or 3 tracks could be classed as average, everything else is top level for me.
Didn't really grab me, a few average songs and the rest just passed me by.
Really strong first half of the album, tails off towards the final tracks. Enjoyed listening to it.
A great album, a real highlight in the Metallica catalogue. Hardly any weak songs, nothing else matters.
Just cannot get into this at all. The dialogue is irritating, songs very repetitive.
A bunch of cowboy tales. Pleasant enough, probably good in the context of a film soundtrack, but not something I would listen to in isolation.
Really thin production, detracts from the songs quite a bit. Still a few decent pop songs
Some of the tracks are OK, but overall not something I would listen to again.
Pleasant enough, some good arrangements but not sure I'd follow up with more listens
An album for me that was of its time. It's still quirky and OK, but no more than that.
13 minute+ Sex machine track just meandering nonsense. Couple of OK tracks here and there, but most wouldn't warrant a second listen from me
Nice album, some great tracks, but a few too many laid back songs.
Went to school with TV smith (Tim Smidmore), he was a couple years older in a band with a friend of mine. Thought Gary Gilmores eyes was a great track. The rest of the album is of its time, a few good songs, but most just pass me by. Quite a raw basic sound.
A really good Sabbath album, full of Toni Iommi riffs, changes of tempo and a great ballad.
Great songs, only one or 2 which are fairly average. A really nice album to listen to, I'd forgotten how good Tracy Chapman was.
Droney voice, not a pleasant listen. I got through the whole thing, but one listen is enough. Just about gets a 2 for a couple of songs.
Really like this album, has quite a few chart songs in it. A couple of weaker ones but still an overall 5 from me.
This album is too funked up for me. 8 mins 45 Africa talks to me, 8 mins 44 too long. Couple of reasonable songs, rest is meandering noodling.
Quite enjoyed this as a more laid back album, however not quite strong enough for a 5
Pleasant enough to listen to, find it quite dated with its production though
Some songs are OK, but it borders on folk, gospel and country, where some of the songs really don't work for me.
A bunch of pop songs with a couple of well known and overplayed one's. It's OK
Lot of folky style short tracks. Not a big fan, but not terrible.
One of their best albums, a few great tracks and the rest are OK, but still gets 4 stars from me.
Really great album. A lot of UK chart hits and some good basic pop tracks. I really like this album, but have heard most of the songs so many times that I'm a bit jaded. However it is a solid 5.
This is just one of the best 80's albums. There isn't a single song on this album that I don't like, plus it has iconic tracks like brothers in arms and money for nothing.
For me this is a real mix of great songs like 'and I love her' and a hard days night which has the iconic opening chord. Let down by a few fillers, but overall a really good early Beatles album.
Great album, so far removed from the squealy wuthering heights which is really grating. Really enjoy her later releases.
Quite enjoyed this. An obvious 80's production, quite snappy drums and clean top end. A couple of great songs, the rest a bit lost.
Didn't really excite, but wasn't bad to listen to. A bit too neutral for me.
Pleasant enough, nothing stood out particularly, sounded a bit Dylan-ish in places
My memory of seeing Meatloaf was at Knebworth when he had a cast for his broken leg and was pelted off stage by everyone throwing mud at him, wrong act for the crowd there to see Deep Purple and Scorpions. Was never a fan and this album is overplayed, overblown and just over produced. Can see why a lot like it though.
Half of it is really good, the other is a bit weak. Overall a decent album though.
This is such a good album, really strong songs in the main and some surprising tracks which I liked more than the big chart hits like up the neck, great riff.
Quite laid back music, OK for easy listening, but nothing grabbed me about this
One of the top rock albums of the 70's and still sounds great. Best of the Bon Scott era. Night prowler is a little weak, but thats it! An easy 5 from me.
I did think before I listened to this that I was going to enjoy it and it would be at least a 4. How wrong I was. Listening to songs in isolation or in the context of a night out or at an open air event a I have definitely enjoyed. Listening to the whole album from start to finish in a single sitting or two, I have a different view. Complete torture, repetitive twaddle, just a bunch of sounds either repeated, slowed down, put through a phaser or some other sound modification system. Save it for Brighton beach, not on my hifi!
Interesting album, almost chris isaac like in places, but nothing stood out for me.
Quite liked some of this, but not enough to give it a 4.
A few great songs and a few really poor tracks/fillers, still I enjoyed listening to it.
Just a great album, very different to most of what was around in the early 70's.
Great rock album, his falsetto has always been something I find a bit difficult listen to but I have got used to it over time.
It's OK, some of the tracks go on a bit too long. Wouldn't be my choice of something to listen to generally.
This is one of the classic live albums. Remember this coming out and listening to it. Thought it was genius at the time. Listening now though I can only manage a 4, long extended drum solos - a real 70/80s thing, 10 minute songs that were originally 4 minutes I also find too much. Blackmore for me still has moments of brilliance.
