Soundtrack for late smot poking .

Very chilled high quality trippy album, jazzy trip hoppy, cool influences,. surprised I've never heard of this before, strong 3 stars for sure.

I've heard some music from this group before. This was okay, but I think they got better. Nice working/background music.

Never heard of Nightmares On Wax but the title of this project alone had me a bit interested as I just needed something to cool off to as the night swept over. This project is more instrumental hiphop and downtempo then it is Trip Hop but anything to make me chill is always nice if it is also interesting. This whole album is really straight forward and not super experimental until about Mission Venice and beyond as it starts to incorporate more interesting noises after the simple beginning gets a bit repetitive. This is yet another album to chill out to in a room with your friends and maybe even some Jackbox. It's nice background music but I really wouldn't give this album your full attention or you will be disappointed. It's nice and long and should keep you at least interested throughout its' entire trip.

Can’t believe I had never listened to this, right up my street. Loved it.

All these songs are way too long. I don't understand why this genre is like this. They just ride the one riff for 7 minutes without any variation.

It's ok. Background / funky hotel music.

very nice instrumental no lyrics liked the vibe still

Good idea for if you're high

really good music to have in the background while working.

Loved this!

This one takes me back! I don't remember it being this cheesy though.

Boring music for boring people.

An old favourite that have not heard for ages. Extra nostalgia points

Thought this was pleasant enough. Would have preferred it as a mixtape rather than discrete songs and probably would have loved it in a different time/different mood, but for a Wednesday morning walk it was a decent enough accompaniment

I like this (they’re on Warp after all) but have always found it just too “lounge” for me to really love. “Wait A Minute/Praying For A Jeepbeat” and “Bless My Soul” are my favourite songs. A solid two stars. Tom.

Groovy. 3.8

It is jazzy and hip—something to listen to in the background when you are just lounging around and want to be super relaxed. Some of the tracks have that smooth, lounge-style groove, but as a whole, it's trip-hop that never really grabs your attention or demands active listening. It's cool, and there's nothing inherently bad about it, but it lacks the groundbreaking edge or lasting impact I look for. Not an album I would rush out to buy but I might search out this genre to play while working.

ладно хоть я и люблю такую чилловую электронику,все-таки 4,а не 5, но однозначно спасибо за нового исполнителя в категории

I’m well aware of these as I have a mate that’s a fan and this and _Carboot Soul_ would sometimes accompany our late night chats, alongside the likes of **Boozoo Bajou** and **Kruder & Dorfmeister**. It’s perhaps not my typical fare but it fits those moments so well; slow and meditative with some low key funk and groove that propels it along. _Nights Introlude_ contains the same **Quincy Jones** sample as **Pharcyde**’s _Passin’ Me By_ and a different version the same track, titled _Les Nuits_ features on _Carboot Soul_ which I personally think is a better album and should be here over this.

Super chill and a bit sleepy for trip hop

This is good! A little bloated though and kind of fizzles out at the end.

Some repetitive songs but overall chill

wtf is this elevator music in top 1001 albums

Background music

Album No. 0215 on my list. I had never heard of Nightmares on Wax nor their album "Smokers Delight", they're really one of these artists I've only discovered through the 1001 album journey. Based on the album cover, I was expecting some reggae or hip hop album - well, don't judge an album by its cover, as they say. Because "Smokers Delight" is neither. It's a chill-out, somewhat experimental, instrumental album. That is not necessarily a bad thing of course, but I have to say though that I found the album somewhat boring. It does work well as some nice background music (either in a relaxed hotel lobby or in a wannabe cool service hotline, but as a collection of songs, it does not excite me at all. I could imagine that this was much more innovative at the time of its release and maybe the fact that one could listen to similar things in 10 hour mix collections on YouTube has just ruined my taste. Besides, the music is not necessarily bad; some tracks exhibit a nice groove, and there were some great samples and effects being used throughout the album. Yet, I still have to admit that it was kinda hard getting through the full 75 minutes of the album; and it's hard for me to pinpoint a single song that really stands out to me. In the end, I'll add "Nights Introlude", and "Stars" to my playlist. 2/5 stars.

Yeah, that was just a bit too bland

Not on Apple Music. Rating based on other album.

Just say no to smoking, kids. ★★

This grew on me Didn’t really have that trip-hop vibe to start with but improved as I listened. Not really what I was hoping for, but not terrible either

the definition of chill hop or whatever but it’s a little boring at times

musica ambiente, com requintes de crueldade (repetições fudidas em algumas músicas)

Again not for me.

Truly much bethe than expected. It's pretty good but quite repetitive. Great background music, but not something I'll likely put on my own.

Loved it running in the background while I worked.

I've never heard of this artist before. After looking at the cover, my thought was "oh, this must be a reggae band" - so I was surprised to realize that it was not. Whatever it is, I'm digging it - especially at the beginning. It's a bunch of cool, groovy, hypnotic instrumentals. Well, "Me and You" and a few other songs have a tiny bit of vocals - which I am guessing are sampled but I am not sure. The Wikipedia article doesn't have a lot of information. It does get kind of repetitive after a while - where it just becomes the kind of background music you might hear in a hotel that is trying to be chic or stuff to listen to while working etc. Also, many of these songs drag on too long and don't have enough variety to keep it interesting. That said, I would enjoy some of these songs popping up on my playlists occasionally and also hearing them on my instrumental playlist. I looked up what else I have in Spotify that came out on 1995 and - just considering music that is in a slightly similar style - I'd say the Chemical Brothers first album "Exit Planet Dust", and the Tricky album "Maxinquaye" are both better than this. They have more energy and edge to them. This one is definitely has a more chill vibes kind of feel - which is ok but I just like those other 2 better. I ended up liking 7 songs: "Nights Introlude", "Dreddoverboard", "Pipes Honour", "Me and You", "Stars", "(Man) Tha Journey", "Mission Venice". I think one reason "Mission Venice" has a lot of listens (2nd most on the album) is because it has a fun energy and it doesn't overstay it's welcome. Liked songs on Spotify: 7/16 Rating: 2/5

This is the first hip-hop album I've gotten that I HAVEN'T heard before! This cover is really beautiful, so I've had my eye on this one for a while, and needless to say I'm excited. 01. Nights Introlude Chill intro...lude. Is a nice way to get us in the mood for what we're (presumably) about to listen to. 02. Dreddoverboard Real smooth, especially those sampled vocals. I feel like I won't be able to say a lot for a lot of these songs... lol. 03. Pipes Honour If I smoked at all, this would be the best song ever created by man. This is fantastic, not a second wasted. 04. Me And You Too short for its own good. Segues nice into Stars. 05. Stars Not as good as the first three in my opinion, just still super laid back and chill. 06. Wait A Minute / Praying For A Jeepbeat Wait A Minute is nice, quick, and ends right when it needs to. Praying For A Jeepbeat is much more upbeat, and I am a sucker for bongos. 07. Groove St. Real simplistic, and weirdly spooky. Besides the bass, didn't care for it much. 08. Time (To Listen) The jumpscare was fun. 09. (Man) Tha Journey This is more like it! Nice and upbeat, especially the drums. 10. Bless My Soul One of my favorites. I like pretty much everything about this one! Not as good as Pipes Honour, but this is a close second for now. 11. Cruise (Don't Stop) Alright, this is my favorite. Very rappable. Very smooth. 12. Mission Venice Went by really fast. At least it did the spacey thing I really liked on Cruise. 13. What I'm Feelin (Good) Was interesting, but doesn't last long enough to make an impact. 14. Rise A fine song, doesn't do much for me. 15. Rise (Reprise) Like, what's the point? It's not very different from the original, so I don't know why it's even here. 16. Gambia Via Vagatorbeach Okay I DID say I like bongos, but not when it's basically the only instrument. What a weirdly starchy fart to go out on. This was cool. A few songs really blew me away, but overall I thought it was just alright.

Какие-то постукивания да щелчки, даже нельзя назвать это полноценной музыкой

I have a feeling this is going to be a divisive pick but I enjoyed this — people who like hip-hop sound and video game music will like this, otherwise I imagine this will be too niche. I listened to this both on the bus and while at work and it was interesting enough for a fully-focused listen but easy to have on in the background as well.

I really kind of expected more from this and hope it would be more of a delight and it was more of just blah and a smokers zone out.

This was pretty repetitive and felt way too long. Sometimes it felt like he put some sounds on loop and went to make a sandwich. Fine for background music I guess but not something I really enjoyed or would return to.

the album is exactly what you would imagine if you just looked at the title and the artist, and it works somehow

This is so long and boring. Rubbish

Great background music that hardly feels essential

I generally listen to music for the lyrics, and a straight instrumental album isnt normally for me, but this is the perfect background keep the intrusive thoughts out kind of record I would have had on repeat when writing papers in Uni. amazing vibe I can just sink into and focus on task

Boring and annoying throughout

Boooooooring!!

Best chill session

Instrumentally I actually enjoyed this despite it being basically vocals-less. I can see the appeal if I was a smoker haha but I am not so 2 stars

I'm not sure what I was expecting from the album art, but this was chill background noise music.

I think a few too many people are writing this off as just music to listen to whilst high on drugs, though that's by no means wrong, it just doesn't really do this album justice. As with any downtempo album, the whole thing is about creating an environment and mood rather than having key moments of 'catchiness'. It can be subtle and it can be repetitive, and it missed the mark for more on more than one occasion, but it is a rather pleasant listen and certainly one that sits well whilst you are doing other tasks.

It ain't clingy, simple weed samples

1 - TERRIBLE

I have nothing necessarily bad to say about this album, it’s fine. I think the beats are groovy and definitely feel they fit the stoner vibe. Just didn’t really blow me away, feels very passive very background type of thing. Highlights: None

Good beats. I like the vibe of pretty much all the songs. Instrumental only really good for background music like walking alone or whatever. I like.

I've heard Carboot Soul through my trip hop deep dive recently and this is definitely wayyy more boring, like 2 or 3 interesting songs here and that's it

The more it played, the more challenging it became to listen. Pretty bland and uninteresting.

Relaxing instrumental tracks

Listened to this sober so maybe thats why it didnt really work for me Best Song: Pipes Honour Rating: 4/10 Stars: 2

chill album but its inclusion on this list is questionable. Had saved two "Nightmares on Wax" songs before

Once again, this type of album just isn't suited for this kind of format. I listened to it while riding a stationary bike, which was kind of nice, but I didn't last the full 75 minute run-time which seems both a little bloated and not unnecessary, since the album is so lowkey just keeping going is inoffensive. However, when I did finish it up, I heard a song from their other album and frankly that was kind of a nice change of pace.

I really enjoyed the the thought of someone walking into The Gap, asking about the cool music, and being told nightmares on wax!

Interesting. Never them before.

Genuinely… what the fuck

I like trip-hop and house, so this was always likely to end well! I know Nightmares on Wax from various compilation albums (looked up the Late Night Tales series!) and Smokers Delight was exactly what I'd hoped it would be! I listened to the whole album 4 times yesterday, while on trains. "Listen (Time To)" and "Bless My Soul" are standouts if I have pick pick some. A very strong 4 stars.

This was a really cool album to listen to and I can definitely see how it would be good to listen to for its intended purpose. It’s also perfect for working, and I think might be the first chill lowfi beats to study/relax to. If I listen to it will be from start to finish. 3.5

I liked this more than I thought I would. As ambient music with a nice groove, it was nice in the car. It may well even make an appearance on my playlists when I need to focus. I liked the sampled sounds and thought the tracks were well put together. Still doesn't beat Mr. Scruff though! 3

Mediocre beats and really long

Mimo to dobre wrażenie, ciekawe odkrycie.

I looked on Wikipedia, and it described this as being trip-hop, but I think it's much more comparable to something like The Incredible Bongo Band than Massive Attack or Portishead. There's a really vintage sound to this that I really enjoyed, it's a really chill and fun album. There are some interesting sounds, and it really flows and meshes like a complete experience. It's not what I was expecting, but I think it's a really cool sound in its own right. Favorites: Dreddoverboard, Pipes Honour, Rise

Background sounds. Not bad, just very bland.

The song Pipes Honour sounds like an episode of Law & Order. That is about the time I rated this a 2 and moved on.

Pleasant. That's all.

No one needs a full album of this.

okay for instrumental, repetitive

Some cool chill vibes but no ooooos or ahhhhs

Decent background music 2.5/5 ⭐️ 254/1089

There is lots to like here, but it feels a bit electronica loopy. This album would have been great if it had been played with real acoustic instruments.

Like a lot of things stoners enjoy, surprisingly annoying when you’re not high.

I quite enjoyed this. A solid collection of electronic beats that worked perfectly as background music while I was cooking. Describing it solely as background music would be wrong though as there were plenty of moments where my ears pricked up and I found interesting musical elements. Not quite enough to warrant a 4, but certainly a high 3.

no lyric lofi

I didn't think I was going to like this based on the title and cover - I was expecting some sort of cheesy weed smoking theme. I was pleasantly surprised to hear a very chill and quite enjoyable album.

I listened to at least part of every song! Couldn’t make it through the whole thing.

I quite liked this, whatever this genre is called. Could have done without the vocal tracks. 3.5 rounded up.

Not nearly enough interesting ideas to stretch as long as it does

Oh, what's this? Some cool reggae music I'd never heard before? Nope, just some electronic groove music. Oh, British AND Electronic...I'm sure the lads down in Surrey were listening to this in 1995 and it's some highwater mark for the genre but goddamn. It's nice, it's pleasant. It's also boring. This is music that can be found playing in any lounge at any time and probably does a really good job of setting a mood, if that mood is boring.

Enjoyed this quite a lot. Chilled out tracks, nothing mental but very pleasant background.

As someone thats learning beat making, I would be honoured to sound half as good as this does. But i wouldn't release it as an album, dead
