Very good production however record feels a bit uninspired. A bit cringy lyrically at least from a first listen. Halfway through record now. Feel like missing context as to why this album is so highly rated, it's not bad by any means but considering you had someone like Bjork active at the same time and this hardly compares to that. Enjoyable listen nevertheless, either case 3.5/5 at least
So far thoughts, listening for 2nd time, some nice songs. To be honest, not a huge fan of 60s pop rock sound. In places, it kind of seems derivative of the Beatles. Production is OK and songwriting is solid, some solid tracks, still can't decide if this is worth 4/5 or less, but I don't see this as an underrated masterpiece some people claim this to be.
2nd update evening: growing on me on each listen, indeed seems like very personal work, lyrically very interesting, kind of reminds me of Selling England by the Pound by Genesis. Getting hang of this, interesting song structures as well, especially 1st half of the album. This is the one to REVISIT.
This one is a very weird addition to 1001 albums, like really? Nothing against her at all, she definitely has pipes, however this seems already very outdated in terms of when this was released and lacking any authenticity or originality. Are you telling me Dusty's debut is on par with what Nina Simone was dropping at the same time? I don't think so… However, production is alright there are some nice songs, but I don't see wanting to go back to this record or even re-listen to it after I did once this morning, currently thinking 2.5/5.0 - a very average record, not bad at all but nothing to die for either.
Welcome change of pace from yesterday's listen. What can one even say any more about Steely Dan and Aja? Absolute top-notch production, incredible, with every instrument well-thought-out and placed in the mix. Not a single bad song. Maybe "I got the news" is weaker from the rest, but still carries that Steely Dan as well as the rest. No doubt a masterful record, 5.0/5.0 without a doubt.
P.S. I can see why some people just seem not to get it. Yes - it is a complete antithesis to Punk ethos. So what, ultimately, good music is the ones which resonates to you personally. And you can enjoy both and not overthink it
This is full-on guitar album. Obviously what really stands out here is "Sultans of Swing" which is a masterpiece. Knopfler's intricate playing shines throughout the album. Kind of seems like he drew some inspirations from some country players here like Albert Lee. "Six Inch Blade" is another standout track. "Water of Love" is a cool track as well.
Taken as a whole, I feel like some songs are a bit weak, but this is still a very enjoyable listen all in all. 4.0/5.0 - great debut effort by Dire Straits.
OK so apparently this is super influential, name sounds familiar but music not so much. So far, this might be super influential, but it's lacking much musicality for me. Quite possible was very original at the time of its release but seems a bit anticlimactic to me.
Apparently Peter Buck from R.E.M. acknowledged influence from these guys and I can definitely hear some of them but in terms of songwriting R.E.M. debut easily knocks this one from its feet.
A couple of more listens and I can def see how this is influential, it does remind me of indie stuff from 90s and so on, but still is just not my thing, so I can't be objective here, just for it's influence I will increase to 3.0/5.0 but afraid no more than that. Really torn on this one for some reason. REVISIT in the future...
P.S. This is their third and last album and I heard this is really quite different from the first two albums, so perhaps I should investigate their full discography.
It's Britney Byatch..
Kitsch, the beginning of the end, super weak lyrically, samey. I can see why this would be historically important, however this stands against everything I believe in music.
Ok, so debut album of Kravitz. Almost halfway through on my first listen, it is quite enjoyable experience. Title track is very nice. "I Built this Garden For Us" is pretty cool. Lyrically full of clichés, however still a very enjoyable listen.
P.S. It's kind of disappointing reading many low reviews for this album and people seem to base their opinion on whatever bullshit was spouted by rock journalists comparing him to Hendrix or Prince when this came out. Maybe just take this as a work of art by itself and make up your own opinion. It's not a masterpiece by any means, but I don't see this as utter garbage as some people seem to think it is.
This one will be a hard one to review. Not because I don't like Radiohead - on the contrary I think they are great because they are doing their own thing, sound like no one else, draw from a wide range of influences and are not afraid to experiment. I feel like this is not the sort of music you can listen once or twice and form a good opinion. My experience with them only goes as far as OK Computer, Kid A, Bends and In Rainbows all of which I love a lot. It took me quite a few times to get In Rainbows, so I suspect this one will take some time to soak in as well.
From the first full listen I love the influence of drone and krautrock which induces hypnotic, relaxed state of mind. Not too many songs instantly stand out however it's about vibe. So far this is easily strong 4.0/5.0, but will need to REVISIT in the future.
Never actually listened to this fully before. Only for sure was aware of "Voodoo People" which is an electronic dance masterpiece. After a short intro you get "Break & Enter" which is a bold, dark yet very groovy statement. This should be a fun listen. So far interesting how this album so far does not seem to be mixed very loudly at all, I guess loudness wars haven't started yet at that point in time, the mix sounds very good. Edit: nevermind, this came out in '94, great year for music. My verdict is a strong 4.5/5.0 but on 1001albumsgenerator it will have to be 4 stars. Enjoyable ride, worth REVISIT. On the other hand might even give 5 stars but still strong 4.5 for me, no more, no less.
OK, this is the first artist on the list, I've never heard of before. From the get-go, seems like a classic sampled house style. Reading upon this, seems like they were an influential UK electronic band in bringing Hip-Hop into UK's mainstream and contributed to Big Beat scene.
So I get the influence, but at the same time it's kind of boring after a few tracks so far, a bit of a cheesy 90s house feel. I like "My Telephone" so far, and intro track was alright. I want to skip quite a few tracks on this one already. This just doesn't seem on the same level to me as some other UK electronic acts of the time. Not bad at all but not a masterpiece either in my opinion, an average 2.5/5.0. And I'm pretty sure this is not first sampling albums by miles, David Byrne's and Eno's collab is way more interesting and creative than this. Interesting takeaway from this is that seems like Eric B & Rakim might have based their Paid In Full from track 10 on this album.
Not sure how much can I take from this in one day of listening, but I already love "Pink Moon" and like a lot his first album, so this one is the only one I haven't listened to fully yet. Will be an enjoyable ride, I'm sure. So far this is quite different from his 2 other albums as this has orchestration on top of it which does fit nicely even though I heard Nick did not like it himself. Weird to hear something like "Poor Boy" from Mr. Drake - it has Sax, backing vocals akin to the Stones record, not bad though. Also, interestingly, parts of the last track reminded me of some song of Bowie, but can't remember which one. So far I really like side 1 and especially that instrumental introduction is breathtaking, other highlights of mine would include "One of these things first" and "Northern Sky". Side 2 seems weaker, and I can't help but compare this to Pink Moon. So for this one, strong 4 stars seems likely.
P.S. I know what flute melody in instrumental "Sunday" reminds me off! "Kooks" from David Bowie!
Ok, so this is the first time I am listening to full Simon & Garfunkel album. Really cool how you can instantly from the first song tell it's these 2 fellas. Scarborough Fair is a beautiful opener. Album is very short so already had a go this morning and I have to say I appreciate the reverberated atmosphere and haunting harmonies which are done so well. Already few tracks are standing out and closing Silent Night with 7 o' clock news dubbed over it felt like a fever dream.
Well aware of these guys, where's Young? Listened once this morning, and it's not bad at all, several songs stuck out at first a bit like "Helplessly Hoping" and "Long Time Gone". But so far seems like fairly average, above average folk rock, really reminds me of Neil Young's 70s albums even though, funnily enough, he has not joined this group at this point in time. All in all I am thinking this is good but not overly great, quite easily 3.5/5.0 but I will round down to 3 stars.
Ah! Finally, some post-punk. Enjoyable first listen, pure classic post-punk sound released at the peak of the genre. But can't help it but compare to other post-punk releases from 1980–we have "Remain in Light" by Talking Heads, "Closer" by Joy Division and "Seventeen Seconds" by the Cure to say the least. This album simply blanks compared to these 3, however it still seems like a solid debut effort by these guys. Definitely very enjoyable, at least 3 stars for sure, 3.5/5.0. A few songs from this going to my post-punk/new wave playlist. "Going Up" - an opening track and "Rescue" really stood out for me along, to a lesser extent, a couple of other tracks.
Probably won't write much about this. Bowie is easily my favourite solo artist and already well aware of this record. One of his best for sure but just a tad short from being masterpiece for me. 4.5/5.0 but will probably round down to 4 stars. Fav tracks: The Jean Genie, Watch That Man, Drive-In Saturday and Time.
Foremost, I am surprised to see an album from so recently, was this book reissued after 2019 or is this post-book addition? Anyway, I am not complaining, never heard of this artist before, but I am like what I am hearing. Had a couple of listens and a few songs stuck out, especially "Rolling". A well-produced, soulful records. Not really sure how to rate this, I know this is at least 3.5/5.0, but not sure if I should round up to 4 stars. I do want to REVISIT this in the future as this is a good record no doubt, and I am glad to see we still have original and good music these days unlike some people would like you to believe... After a few listens I somehow feel bad for about to give 3 stars, but also don't want to give 4, too bad you can't change them after
Alright, first country record. I know and love the title track, but never listened to the album by itself. So had a few listens and sadly only title track really stands out, however there are some other nice songs and the overall vibe is authentic and warm. A good classic country album, 3.5/5.0 but probably rounding down to 3 stars.
This list just keeps disappointing me. Look, I have nothing against Lorde, this is not such a terrible music or anything, but c'mon, so many great artists are left out from this list, and it seems like the author of the book went to Wiki and searched for best-selling albums and billboard mainstream charts. This is already much better than that Spears debut nightmare, but after a few songs this just gets so similar, can't remember a single song and hate this type of production drowning everything in reverb and there's no dynamic range here at all, sounds too pristine and sanitary. 2.0 at most, maybe less.
OK, now here's something very interesting. I only found out about this band quite recently, last year. Big influence on indie and shoegaze and funnily enough this album to me sounds almost like a mix between The Pixies and MBV. Had a listen on my way to work and enjoyed it. At least 3.5/5.0 after first listen, just like a honey, an album opener, instantly stood out. On a few more listens, "Never Understand" also stood out. I get how some people might see it as noise but after listening deeply you really get immersed into this experience, and it feels very special like some 60s pop rock band completely engulfed by this sea of well controlled and arranged noise - basically Velvet Underground/Sonic Youth + Beach Boys.
A dark synth pop masterpiece with a few flaws. I know this deserves at least 4 stars, but I might even bump it up to 5. Anyway my RYM rating will be 4.5/5.0 most likely. I am feeling generous this morning and giving this 5
Easy 5 stars instantly without much thinking. Not going to get too much into details as to why, but I think this is a super influential album, one of my favourites, a big part of my adolescence and a post-punk masterpiece. P.S. Now I maybe regret a bit for giving 5 instead of 4 stars yesterday to DM's "Music for the Masses" but it's all good
Alright, another 70s record and I am not complaining, well aware of Cat/Yusuf Stevens. 2 songs from this album I already knew Wild World and Father and Son. Yet the album opener is very nice as well. Clearly this is a good folk record, still not sure if I will only give these 3 stars or round up to 4 because for RYM I'm thinking 3.5/5.0. Listened a few times now and it seems like this def deserves 4 stars, a few songs I really love from here, but other songs do not pale much in comparison and def don't take away from the experience.
What a lovely coincidence as just 2 days ago I bought tickets to see this great artist for the first time in my life! I was aware this is one of his best albums but don't remember listening to it full so pleasantly surprised, side 1 is perfect, at the very least 4 stars and rating 4.5/5.0 on RYM possibly. Highlights: "Into My Arms", "People Ain't No Good", "(Are You) the One That I've Been Waiting For?", "There Is A Kingdom".
P.S. Hopefully before the concert next summer I will get more of his stuff here but surprised this list doesn't include "Let Love In" which I considered his best one, but he does have tons of albums so worth exploring more.
Never listened to them before, only recognized the name. Sounds Stereolabish, maybe Radioheadish, clear Beatles influences, maybe some Krautrock influence. Sounds like a recipe I would enjoy but for some reason doesn't do much for me at all, I think it's just average, so can't see giving this beyond 3 stars, it's not great, not horrible either but kind of boring.
Alright, must be first funk and disco album, these guys are legends for sure. I find the first 2 songs significantly more memorable than the rest 6, but still is some solid music right here. Not even sure what to rate it, 4 stars seems a bit too much and 3 stars too little - a bit torn on this one. For RYM - 3.5/5.0
Yay! One of the giants of 60s psychedelia, no doubt. 3 massive songs on this one with Roadhouse Blues (might be my fav Doors track), Waiting for the Sun and Peace Frog. The rest of the album is good but doesn't come close to these 3 tracks. Strong 4 stars is what I am thinking and reserving those 5 stars to their Debut. I would replace this one with Strange Days, but oh well, beggars can't be choosers.
So this is the first double album I am getting and also first time I am getting a 2nd album from an artist I already got before and this also happens to be the artist I will see live in a year so very excited. This will surely be a dense listen, knowing Cave.
P.S. Busy day at work and pub after, will be tough to absorb this one.
P.S.2 Rating this 4.5 on RYM, but I think I'll go for 4 stars here
Very cool stuff! Must be one of the oldest albums on this list and first rock n roll album I am getting. I believe I haven't listened to the guys like Little Richard in many years. This is some great music, several great hits like Long Tall Sally or Tutti Frutti and the rest of the songs are decent but kind of samey and following similar formulas. Based on musicality I would give this either 3 or 4 stars, but because this is basically a debut from the architect himself I will increase it to 4 stars cause so many of my favourite artists wouldn't exist without this!
Easy 5 lol, but in all seriousness I don't even need to think hard about this, an album which kept growing on me over the years and acted as a catalyst to seek out more similar alternative and experimental music. A timeless classic and super influential one at that.
I never heard of this band before but honestly made me a little angry listening to this, and hard not to skip most tracks - It seems like very safe music, designed to be inoffensive in all aspects which pisses me off because it feels safe, I am not even sure if it deserves "ok" 2 stars, possibly my 2nd 1 star here.
Great album! The quintessential goth release, I have already rated this on RYM as 4.5/5.0, so this could go either way here, but honestly it is deserving 5 stars I think, great vibes
Never listened to the Monkees besides I'm a Believer and sadly so far I do not see much value in this, just your average 60s pop rock band trying to be the next Beatles and severely lacking it seems. I'll give another go after work. Rated 2.5 on RYM, just plain average. Looks like strong 2 stars here.
Honestly I am too tired to even think about this one today. So I'll keep it short. Bland, boring. no. 2/5
Oh great, yet another bland indie record from late 90s, early 00s. I want to punch the guy who made this list, has he ever heard of a little word called variety. I just don't understand how this apparently was so popular, it makes me freaking angry. Despite not really being super into Swans or Godspeed you black emperor, but why the hell not include those releases as well? The author of this list sounds like a douchebag who just included half of his childhood albums.
P.S. Just some notes - "There Goes the Fear" sounds awfully close to Sunday Morning by VU and next song "M62 Song" has some awful similarities to Moonchild by KC. It’s funny how the song which I liked the most or came closest to liking is also one of the least played songs on the album lol. Not so sure anymore if this even deserves 2 stars, just kill me already
Finally, after an endless streak of boring indie records, I get this. Easily one of the best produced albums ever, easy 5 stars. I bet I am an opposite from all those kids rating their indie rubbish high and probably hating this.
First Hip-Hop album on this list! I know this album, but never listened to it. Really reminds me of "Deltron 3030". Just don't like immature lyrics, but I read that's Kool Keith's character and his sense of humour, apparently. Ah, looks like Dan the Automator produced this, so "Deltron" connection is established. Good hip-hop albums which I just rated 3.5/5.0 on RYM, could go either way here.
Yesterday got my first hip-hop album on the list and now this classic... I rated it 3.5 on RYM because it does seem to lack despite some tracks, but for influence here could go for 4 stars maybe
Should be a fairly straightforward 5 stars this one, glad I already knew of this album before because I wanted something easy today. I had this rated at 4.5 on RYM but should strongly consider increasing it to perfect 5, this is such a beautiful recording.
Wow, suddenly so much hip hop after first month of no hip hop at all. This is not bad but again I don't think this is such a masterpiece as some people tend to call it. I heard way better hip hop but I also heard worse so to me this is just about average. Even those big hits sounds a bit cringy today.
Pretty cool, interesting record, been's caught stealing is on this one of course, which is a stone-cold classic. A pleasant experience. I am not sure why, but it is lacking strongly in something. Probably dead in the middle with 3 stars, perhaps one to REVISIT? Im drunk
First proper country record, I am familiar with Loretta. She has a beautiful voice and kind of the voice which comes to my mind when I think of female singing a classic country tunes. I am not huge on country, but this is solid and enjoyable, probably 3 stars
Ah, yes! Brings back memories, a great southern blues rock album. Def at least 4 stars for this bad boyy. Just rated 4.5 on RYM so I might give this one 5 stars here just because!
Surprised, I never really went and listened fully to this OST. I love Moon safari and from the first listen this album instantly feels very solid. Relaxing, calming, chill, solid piece of work, probably 4 stars.
Nice! Might be first proper blues album, def first Chicago blues one, very nice solid live muddy waters record, probably 4 stars, perhaps revisit?
First Dylan! Not my favourite, but this is really good album. However I'm afraid there is not enough time today to properly review it. At least 4 stars for sure on this one. Maybe even more but this one surely worth constant REVISIT. I might regret my rating, cause it might deserve 5 stars as well but I have many more of his albums to listen and soak in for a longer time.
UPDATE after 2 days: Just had to update to 5, this is a really special record even though it's 4.5 on RYM
Must be first prog album and what a masterpiece! I'm glad I already listened to this last year in depth, otherwise it would not be enough time to properly soak it in. Maybe some flaws but still solid 5 stars for me. Carpet Crawlers and Hairless Heart and Fly instantly became some of my favourite tracks ever.
I wonder why they have a live album instead of a studio one. Maybe they haven't released a worthy studio recording. This has 2 massive hits obviously but apart from that it's decent but don't think it's super great. Probably 3 stars
Alright, I really only got into these guys last year. Especially with Daydream Nation and this album - so this easily is 4 stars. But on the other hand, I think them having 5 albums on this list is a bit too much still. But I would add this one easily. A very interesting noisy listen, love Kool Thing and Dirty Boots
I mean The Who is a great band but why are there so many live albums. Especially a band like this has enough great studio albums for this list so a bit disappointed by this entry. Still, this is really good, obviously.
Ok, this was really a pleasant surprise. I love tribe, but have never bothered to check Q-Tip's solo discography. Oh boy was I wrong! Super good mix, relaxing, interesting hip-hop. Love it. probably even go for 4 stars.
I have heard of this band plenty o' times before this, but never actually listened to this. Pretty cool English minstrel folk, not bad, not bad. Probably 3 stars?
It's actually pretty solid, better than I expected. Take me out is legendary, but I am enjoying some other tracks as well, not bad.
Classic, dirty, electronic dance masterpiece. 5/5
Superb cool combination of jazz and soul. No one did this better than Jimmy Smith. This is among my favourite jazz records ever and despite rating it 4.0 on RYM, I might give it 5 stars here purely because there's a huge lack of Jazz albums on this list
Well aware of these guys. Afraid only recognize Sabotage on this one so far after listening to halfway through. A lot of variety here and some cool cameos like Q-Tip, but despite all of that they are just not connecting to me on a personal level yet. Still, despite all of that, must deserve at least 4 stars, very solid interesting music with plenty of ideas and good production.
Another live album! Well, this one is half-live I suppose as there are many overdubs. Sadly, this is the only entry for the great Thin Lizzy which will reflect in my rating. Probably deserving 4 stars, I know nearly half of the songs on this one and that's about all the songs I know from them haha.
Like the Dude said: "I fucking hate the Eagles, man". Well I don't however this was quite a boring experience, enjoyable, but boring nevertheless. I guess this is just the middle of the road for me, not to terrible but nothing to write home about. Probably 3 stars.
Last time I heard these guys is when I watched Metallica live at Moscow from '91 or '90 and remember liking them, so this will be interesting, a blues rock revival of sorts. Ok, after one full listen enjoyed this quite a lot, a decent blues rock cut, probably 3.5/5.0 ON RYM so here could go either way, I am very generous so far with this list. Strong Zeppelin and Aerosmith influence here, perhaps not surprisingly the best track was "Hard to Handle" which was written by Mr. Otis Redding.
Ok, so I was dreading a Britpop album which I knew this list has plenty, but this is actually much better than I expected, not half bad. Will probably give it 3 stars, cannot see going above that because it's a bit boring to me still. Album opener really stands out to me "Girls & Boys" and it reminds me of Bowie style which is a good thing. Skipped quite a few tracks on 2nd listening and couldn't get to listen for the 3rd time so no more than 3.
This one will be easy, glad I got into TH seriously a year or two ago. Out of 11 songs, 10 are in my Talking Heads playlist and I like 8 so this is easy 5 stars for me. Great, great album with clear influence from Fela Kuti and of course produced by Mr. Eno.
2nd Bowie album on list! Weirdly enough again I love this album but not one of my Bowie favourites so unsure if to give 5 stars, but 4 is a no-brainer for this one, I just prefer Low a bit more. On Side 1, "Heroes" is a clear standout track, no doubt. However, "Beauty and the Beast" is a very cool opener. I also like "Blackout" and other 2 tracks are alright as well. But I think side 2 is really where this affair shines through. With some help from Mr. Eno, we have a beautiful ambient collage. Kraftwerk inspired "V-2 Schneider", intense "sense of doubt". I like serene, eastern sounding Moss Garden. Listening to last 2 tracks now. I think this might go to 5 stars too, cause why not, I've rated it 4.5/5.0 on RYM anyway.
First Frank Zappa! And potentially the last one here... But a legendary entry, nontheless. Probably an easy 5 stars for this great and unique work of art.
I don't even know what to think about this. On one hand - I've heard worse, but damn this made me angry and I've listened to most of this while skipping a lot of tracks halfway through. Can't decide between 1 and 2 stars.
Alrighty, well aware of these guys and their huge impact and importance on punk. This was an enjoyable listen on my way to work. Now, I am not a punk connoisseur, it's not my forte, however I do like punk. So this must at the very least be 3 stars. But I don't see giving this one more than 4, perhaps the one to REVISIT? I think I'm going to give 3 stars after listening to this album for most of the day, and now I'm literally drunk... But I might regret it and increase it to 4 at some point in time, rated 3.5/5.0 on RYM.
P.S. Damn (no pun intended), I feel I might even round up my RYM's 3.5 to 4 stars here, really cool discovery even though I knew of the band well before just haven't (how stupid of me) listened to them properly before. Well anyway I guess morning me will decide.
2 punk albums in a row! And first from the legendary Clash. This is a good album again, can't help but compare to the Damned album which I got yesterday, this is enjoyable, some great tracks like White Riot, Janie Jones and Police & Thieves. Def at least 3 stars, quite possibly 4 but not sure yet.
I have heard of this band plenty, but never listened to them before, pretty sure of that. I'm halfway through now, and it's not that bad, but it's kind of boring to me as well, can't see this going for more than 3 stars, maybe less, will see after I finish listening to this fully.
Easy 5, I checked, and I know every single song of this album and don't even need to listen to this thing. Hard rock classic and one of the greatest rock debuts of all time, no doubt. However, G'nR leaves much to be desired besides this.
Interesting album today, absolutely never heard of this band before in my life. I am neither super opposed nor attracted to this soul infusion with rock. It's quite fun, energetic, but feels a bit uninspired to me. Probably 3 stars all in all, we'll see.
Really excited to get my first Wonder album! Already listened to this in the past, today re-listened to this album a few times and man, I really wish to give this one 5 stars, but I love about half of the songs here and other half I don't care too much about so easily very solid 4 stars.
All right, kind of surprised to see this here. A very early Nick Cave in his career. Feels very much minimal, a DIY punk affair. I quite enjoyed it, but at the same time I don't think this is that great, not even sure if this is deserving of 3 stars.
Alrighty, the second album of the Kinks on this list. I have put quite a lot of effort in rating Village Green Preservation Society but feels like today I am not in the mood to put as much effort into this one. So the only song I knew is Waterloo Sunset but on the 2nd or 3rd re-listen, the album opener - "David Watts" is also quite cool.
Just listened to this once in the morning. Not my cup of tea but it's not bad, in fact just in the middle of the road for me, not great either. But it's groovy, funky and great production, I was aware of Waterfalls and that's it. First time listening to this group. Probably 2 or barely 3 stars. Rated 2.5/5.0 on RYM.
First Stones album I am getting here and oh boy what a great one this is! Either this one or Exile are my favourite Stones albums so this will be an easy 5. A great great Blues rock album
First album from the King himself! Well sadly this is a live album, nothing against them but maybe not on this list. Despite that, this is recorded super well and mixed expertly up to the point where it is hard to think this is a live album. Legendary moments with "In the Ghetto" and "Suspicious Minds", so probably easy 4 stars.
Easy 5 on this one, know it by memory alone. Clearly one of the most iconic albums of all time and one of the bestsellers for a good reason, but not my fav PF album.
Yet another iconic rock album. One of the best hard rock offerings, I think. Rated this already 4.5/5.0 on RYM, so this could easily go to 5 stars here, maybe.
Sounds a bit average to me, listened fully to this at least once and sadly did not pick up many memorable moments. Just your average country album it seems so probably around 2 stars and 2.5/5.0 on RYM
Never have listened to D'Angelo before, but I heard he has recently passed away, so may he rest in peace. This is a huge influence on neo-soul movement in the 90s and actually sounded more or less what I expected it would sound like. Not exactly my kind of soul (I prefer classic sounds), but this is still good, just about the middle of the road for me. Not a huge fan of lyricism here, but bass bunches through, and it is mixed well.
P.S. On 2nd listen some tracks did stood out like Shit, Damn, Motherfucker or When we get by. I am tempted to check his most famous album "Voodoo" which is surprisingly not on this list! So this artist is perhaps the one to REVISIT? Planning to maybe give 3.5/5.0 on RYM and 3 stars here
What an album! I am having a horrible day so this is a great treat. A superb jazz album , really a masterpiece. I have no idea how can anyone think this is bad??! 500 stars for this one, also what a legendary lineup here!
Noisy goodness! Took me so many years to got into this, no regrets. Easy 5 stars.
Very cool to have this album here, never sat down and listened to it, but well aware of this work. Obviously I was already more than familiar with "Good Vibrations" but I now also love "Heroes and Villains". Not sure what to give this one, between 3 and 4 stars most likely. It is an enjoyable to listen but does feel a bit unpolished and unfinished, some great ideas here. Rated 3.5 on RYM, perhaps should REVISIT in the future...
