Perfect
This was new to me. Great album, loved the title track especially. Will listen again
Not really my bag - it builds and builds but never goes anywhere
It's pleasant enough
I know I'm in the minority, but I think this has its moments - Wooden Ships, especially
I much prefer the legend of the Smile sessions to this album
Beige
Some great slide guitar on here, would listen again
I probably hadn't listened to this for 15 years and had forgotten how good it was (side one especially)
My least favourite of their first 4, but still has some great moments
I love this album
A classic. I feel like half of my record collection wouldn't exist with Murder Mystery or What Goes On...
Turgid
I preferred this to Smile. Not really my bag, but not unpleasant. Dreamer was my highlight
This was new to me. A bit bland on first listen (like Prefab Sprout without the tunes!) but enjoyed it more second time round. Heatwave was my standout track
This is clearly rubbish, but it was so over the top and daft I found myself quite enjoying myself.
It's always a pleasure to stick this on
No
I have a massive soft spot for the Drude, and this is one of his best. Safesurfer is a long time favourite
It's a good not great album but the highlights (Burning Wheel and Kowalski for example) are genius
A national treasure. Amongst strong competition, this might be my favourite of her albums
Lovely stuff
A classic
Home to one of the best one-note guitar solos of all time. One of NY's best
Sublime
This was a real slog for me. So depressing I couldn't get through more than a track or two before turning it off. A thoroughly miserable 48 minutes
Still sounds great. Beautiful and menacing in equal measure
Dense and soupy. I think I would have to live with this album for a long time for it to fully click.
The start of the greatest run of albums in history?
I am sure one day I will grow to love Steely Dan, but today wasn't that day.
New to me, I enjoyed this.
The Who at their most bonkers, good fun and I Can See For Miles is an absolute tune.
This was new to me. Thoroughly enjoyed it, Crash & Carry, Kein Trink Wasser and Are We Here? all superb
Not one I'll be listening to again
Jump Into The Fire is an absolute banger which deserves to be played loud
I actually enjoyed this more than I expected to, the first half especially
Love this, side 1 in particular
All of the worst 80s pop stereotypes in one place. Everybody Wants To Rule The World is the best thing here
Elevator music
Great stuff. Search and Destroy still blows me away every time
Good concept but I found the songs pretty forgettable
10 year old me would have confidently told you this album was the pinnacle of human achievement. I must have listened to it 1000s of times back then. Pure nostalgia.
Enjoyed this, perfect for a Sunday morning
This wasn't as bad as I expected, and I actually quite enjoyed the first couple of tracks before the schmaltz took over
I love this album
I'd never listened to the full album before (though There She Goes, My Beautiful World was played at my wedding). Absolutely loved it, too many favourites to list.
It's overly long, but there's a few bangers on here
Lovely stuff.
Ronseal. (but I do still have a soft spot for Smooth Criminal)
A lovely album. As Mr Preest has correctly pointed out, When Love Breaks Down is a stone cold classic
Wild World is a great tune, but I prefer Jimmy Cliff's cover. The rest kind of passed me by
A personal favourite, and maybe his best in my humble opinion
Hadn't listened to this in years. Still brilliant.
Pleasant but didn't blow me away
I'd never listened to this before, having only heard Time Of The Season. I loved it, will definitely listen again
Enjoyable but overlong
This didn't really click with me, but I did enjoy the proto-krautrock of Grey/Afro
It was fun to listen to this again, some great songs on here
I preferred this to 25 - more variety and better songs. But still have no intention to ever listen to this again.
Enjoyed this, though on first listen I think I might have preferred Be. The Light is a great track
Still sounds great, a very under-rated album
A decent title track + 30 minutes of muzak does not a great album make
One of the blandest things I've ever listened to. Johnny Thunders had the best Heartbreakers by a country mile
Enjoyed this more than I expected. Probably wouldn't rush to listen again, but a few good songs on here
A great album, criminally under-rated
Title track aside (which is still an absolute banger), I found this increasingly tedious as time went on.
A classic
Hadn't listened to this all the way through for a long time. Magical stuff.
Always a pleasure to listen to this
(Nearly) 30 years on, and this still sounds like it's being beamed down from an alien planet.
This was new to me, apart from Birthday. Good fun - Coldsweat and Blue Eyed Pop were highlights
This one left me cold - a pretty forgettable album
Some good tracks, but a lot of filler. Would be better for being half the length. And lyrically, not my cup of tea at all.
NY didn't realise a bad album in the 70s. This is another classic
A favourite late night album, great excuse to listen again
Tiny Dancer is a bit of a guilty pleasure. As for the rest, I will at least say I preferred it to Billy Joel
This was new to me, having not really kept up with Beck after Midnite Vultures. Really enjoyed it, would definitely listen again.
I always preferred Live Through This, but this was massive when I was at school so a nice bit of nostalgia.
Not a classic by any means, but there are a few good tracks on here. Always had a soft spot for Blue Orchid
I don't think YYY ever released a great album - it was diminishing returns after their first EP (which is superb). A few good tracks on this, but a lot of filler.
This is way too long but a pleasant enough listen
Has there ever been a worse lyricist in the history of popular music than Anthony Kiedis?
I loved this when it came out but probably hadn't listened to it for a decade. Not as great as I remember but still good fun
Another nostalgia fest, not as good as I thought it was as a teenager
Even with a gun to my head, I don't think I could choose my all time favourite PJ Harvey album, but today it was this one
Good fun
Daft nonsense. The joke wears thin pretty quickly. Give me Tres Hombres any day
New to me, this was a revelation. Will definitely listen again and explore The Byrds more generally, having only really heard a handful of their singles
New to me. On first listen I wouldn't say it was one of Bjork's best, but will definitely listen again and I am sure it will grow on me.
One of my all time favourites and probably the greatest double LP of all time
At the risk of being a real dork, the version on Spotify is VERY different to the original release, but it certainly doesn't suffer from the addition of Purple Haze and Hey Joe etc
Another album that I really liked when it came out that I hadn't listened to for years. Standing Next To Me is still great but the album tails off towards the end
A lovely record
A couple of good tracks but really not for me
Always a pleasure to listen to this
I got this on CD for Christmas when I was 7. A few great songs on here (Can You Forgive Her? especially) but it sounds very dated now
This was even better than I remembered it
A great voice, but not my bag at all. Of the coroners, this is much better than the Sinatra album we had to suffer previously though
Enjoyed relistening to this, though it seemed a lot more transgressive when I was a teenager
What's not to like? Plays like a greatest hits and contains Heart of Glass which is an all time classic
New to me. I enjoyed this, would definitely listen again
God, this was dull. A trudge.
Not really my bag, but enjoyed it more than I expected. Waterfalls is still a great song.
Maybe it's because it's the first one I heard, but this is my favourite SY album
Lost In Music ❤️
On paper, The Replacements are exactly my cup of tea but they always leave me feeling underwhelmed
Not sure how this made it onto the list! It's not awful, but won't be listening again
Pleasant enough I suppose, but not my bag
A real record of two halves. Side 1 is glorious, Side 2 is a fairly tedious 19 min jam (albeit with a few nice flourishes).
For my sins, I quite like side one of this
A great voice, but not an album I'll be rushing to listen to again
Lovely to revisit this. A great album
New to me, loved it
Another album new to me. Pleasant enough, but nothing particularly grabbed me on first listen.
I've never been a fan of Dylan, but for some reason this album is the exception. Idiot Wind is superb.
Some classics on here - the title track and Strength of Strings are especially brilliant
I didn't like this any where near as much as I thought I might
This is one of those albums that I can appreciate as being ahead of its time and inspirational without being a massive fan
I love this album. A great voice and such tight arrangements.
Turns out Samba is not for me
PJ Harvey is simply one of the best to ever do it. This might be her best album but I think I say that every single time.
Enjoyable enough
An air guitar classic
My Dad has always been a big fan of Peter Gabriel era Genesis, for reasons which remain very unclear
My favourite Elvis. Some great songs on here - Olivers Army, Green Shirt, Goon Squad... It does tail off a bit towards the end though
A step up from Willie Nelson in my view
New to me - I had dismissed Dirty Projectors as pretentious guff when they first came out. That snap judgement wasn't totally wrong, but quite enjoyed parts of this. Would listen again.
10/10 for ambition! There is a 5 star album worth of material here for sure, but inevitably there is also some filler. I hadn't listened to this for at least a decade and was pleased to discover I had new favourites on this listen.
I know I am less averse to 70s rock/prog than others in this group but this was a struggle
It's one of their best. Lovely stuff.
God, that was a tedious 50 mins. Confirmed all my preconceptions about Dylan.
A truly great album. The title track is one of the best songs ever written about going out drinking on a Friday night
Always had a soft spot for La Grange and Precious & Grace. Forget Eliminator, this is the only ZZ Top LP you need.
This was new to me and was as brilliant as I expected. Suicide was my highlight on first listen.
I'd only heard the singles so first time listening to the album. Good fun, would listen again
Breezy power pop, pleasant enough.
This was bland beyond belief, the one exception being the Niles Rogers/Bernard Edwards collab, which at least had a great bass line
Perfectly adequate pop music with a strong 80s vibe, but nothing special
Contains some of the finest howling ever committed to vinyl. Lovely stuff
One of my fave Bowie albums
It's not their best, but still lots to love here
This was new to me. Some great songs (Seedy Films, Sex Dwarf) and maybe the best cover of all time? Would listen again
I'd never listened to this album before, but knew Facist Groove Thing (which remains an absolute banger). Interesting album, particularly the 2nd half. Would listen again
My favourite Tom Waits album. Lovely.
