Would be a 5 if most songs weren't covers i think
4
Rest of the album doesn't quite live up to Roundabout but it is one of the best songs ever written to be fair. Still a solid album though
4
A bit inconsistent but the highs are high and the lows not that low
4.5
My least favourite of their first 6 albums but still great
3.5
Could do with being a bit shorter
5
Amazing from start to finish
3.5
Eddie van halen is really talented but at points it seemed he put showing off over the actual music :/ really enjoyed some of these songs though
5
Loved this and never would of heard of these guys otherwise. Requiem is a sick opener and the rest of the album lives up to it
2.5
Really not my thing, can recognise its good though but I wouldn't want to listen again
5
Feel like I've been resisting listening to Bowie for so long because he couldn't possibly live up to the hype. He does though
3
A nice listen, nothing special though and feels quite dated
3.5
Opening/closing song a bit weak imo, enjoyed most of the rest though
3.5
Some bangers but quite overrated as a whole I feel :/
5
Incredible. Been a long time since I listened the whole way through and forgot how it all connects so well with the story throughout
4
Bongo bongo
3.5
Australian smiths? Some really nice songs, but ultimately nothing super special
4
Refreshingly unserious, you can see how crazy influential these guys were
4.5
Guitar is entrancing at times. Not understanding the vocals allowed me to focus on the music more in a way I feel
2.5
Really frustrating in that everytime it seemed to be building to something good it just faded out instead. At certain points there also seemed to be one annoying instrument/sound ruining otherwise pleasant music
4
Really cool hearing the crowdwork between the songs
5
Like this even better than ziggy stardust I think
4.5
Liked this more than I was expecting
3
Can't believe they went with that holocaust line
3.5
She has a great voice, enjoyed the adlibbing on the last track
2
Inoffensive, boring though
3
Was kind of expecting him to have a stronger voice
4
Can see why these guys were so big in the 70. Can also kinda see why they haven't had the same long term popularity as other bands from that era tbh. Overall thought it was great though, really fun rock album
4.5
you're all wrong tbh, the flute is sick
3.5
Pleasant enough but no idea why this is on the list. Is she mates with the author maybe?
Upped a star on second listen to be fair
3.5
Nice chill album
4.5
Man has a genius for spouting absolute nonsense but convincing you it must somehow be profound
2
Feel like he's just making the stuff he nicked from other artists worse
2.5
First 6 songs were alright but usually there was that something holding them back from being really good, maybe the vocals/lyrics? The last song was just ridiculously overindulgent, thought it was starting to drag on by minute 4 and then it lasted 15 more
3
'Morrissey Sings His Reddit Post History'
4
Enjoyed this a lot more than the other electronica albums I've heard. Could still do with trimming down a bit tbh, cut out a few songs.
5
This was great. Bluebird, let me roll it, nineteen hundred and eighty five... wouldn't be at all out of place on any Beatles album quality-wise
Third listen and I'm upping it to a 5
2.5
Actually enjoyed this whenever there was no vocals, but his voice was so grating
5
Loved this, new a couple of the songs but was really surprised how strong it was throughout
4
Interesting voice haha, I preferred the more upbeat songs to the slower ballads but still pretty solid throughout
2.5
Enjoy stuff like this far more when the vocalists aren't trying to sound 'scary'
4
Pretty cool for the most part. Could have done with that one song where he's trying to defend his right to beat his wife and hate the gays
5
Absolutely perfect album
3.5
Wasn't huge on the sonic youth songs I'd heard before but this was a pleasant suprise
4.5
Disagree so much with some of the top reviews here. This was really good, sounds so ahead of its time and some really fun lyrics
3.5
Acdc album is acdc album
4
After the first song I was dreading the rest but after that I actually really enjoyed it. The guy is a really good songwriter and sounding a bit like thom Yorke isn't exactly a bad thing
4
Nice album, wasn't expecting a love song about a trans couple on an 80s punk album
4.5
Really good, and I'm not usually huge on purely instrumental stuff
4
Enjoyed this, she has a really nice voice
4
First if heard of Costello and tbh his voice is not what I was expecting from a man who kind of looks like woody Allen. Admittedly wasn't huge on the first track but it really got better after that
3
The only two ways I could find to listen to this album were a YouTube playlist complete with ads for online casinos and cat food, or an Internet archive recording intercut with commentary in Spanish. I wasn't sure which of these was closest to how the band originally intended.
4.5
The two longer songs do drag a bit but the shorter ones are all great. Is quite funny that these guys are from california and weren't born anywhere near the bayou
4.5
On first listen I honestly thought this was a bit rubbish but then putting it on again I dont know what I was thinking, its great
3
Can definitely see how influential it's been but really hasn't stood the test of time the way a lot of other 60s stuff has imo
5
Has never been my favorite of theirs but on this listen it really clicked
4
Not quite as good as some of their later stuff but most of the songs are still pretty good and it does have psycho killer
3.5
A lot of the songs start off really well but do kind of dissolve into being a bit samey
3.5
I reckon there's a much better 40ish minute album here but some of the songs either just didn't really work for me or were a bit boring
5
Their best album imo, can't you hear me knocking might be their best song too
3.5
Another one where I really liked large parts of the album but was dragged down by several weaker/uninteresting songs (usually the ones where the fake accent was more pronounced)
3.5
De la soul with better rapping but also less interesting production
4.5
Didn't quite enjoy it as much as the first two Bowie albums I got but it's still really good
4.5
A few weaker songs, mostly the more experimental Buckingham stuff. Could have done a shorter album that would almost be comparable to rumours out of the better stuff though
3.5
Some good songs but also just doesn't really stand out from other rock albums of this period for me
4.5
Hole are great, and deserve more recognition and respect beyond just the cobain association, a really good album and some great songwriting
5
One of those albums that just flows together so well, absolutely more than the sum of its parts
4.5
Fairly sure there are other words that rhyme with trigger
4
Didnt really stand out at all to me on the first listen but on the second time round, this is a genuinely really good album, very varied styles
3
Genuinely better than I was expecting and the best 5/6 songs were pretty good. Unfortunately there were another 4/5 that were just mediocre and a couple that were outright awful. Someone also needs to tell him that songs can be shorter than 5 minutes
4
Not huge into metal but this was pretty good,
5
Beautiful album, she has such a great voice and the whole thing flows so nicely
4
Fallout radio music
4
Some great songs on this one, feels like a bit of a random collection though rather than an album that flows together
4
Love the first half but I feel the last 3 songs aren't on the same level
4
Cowboy vibes, first of theirs I've heard and I did like it, wasn't sure at first but it really grew on me
3.5
Some great songs at the start but then it does drag a bit later on
4
Wasn't expecting to be belting out Christmas songs on the way to work on a May morning haha. Enjoyed this
3
Pretty standard pop music, few great songs but nothing special for the most part. The hidden track poem at the end is quite something...
2.5
Didn't have high hopes after the last one of theirs and if anything i enjoyed this even less
Listened to this once years ago and thought it was mid but listening again now and it's honestly amazing, front to back every song is great
3.5
Starts off with some hits but after that it's a bit safe and uninteresting for the most part, that one peace on earth song made me understand all the anti bono sentiment
2
I get that this was hugely influential and I could see the ways that so many bands i like were inspired, but I just would rather be listening to any of those bands. This sucks. And any good will that it would get from me for the influence is canceled out by John lydon being a complete wanker
4
Liked it, not every song worked for me but most did
5
Love The Who, and this was a great debut, feel like they don't get the respect they deserve because of the Stones and Beatles
4
Definitely reminds me of tears for fears but that's not a bad thing, listened on the way to my sisters wedding so big day was definitely appropriate
4
Don't hate the radio ads concept but I just think the songs aren't quite as strong as my generation (two days ago haha), bar I can see for miles.
4.5
I like Muse, you can definitely hear the Radiohead influence but I think they have a more unique style than people give them credit for, especially on this album
4.5
Only knew whole of the moon before this which is one of my faves. This was a really interesting album, a few weaker tracks like on most of the albums on this list though to be fair
3.5
Message in a bottle is obviously great and a few of the other songs were pretty good but overall didn't quite hit for me
4
Nice blend of styles, very different from anything I'd heard before
3.5
Nice and chill, good background music
4
It's long but doesn't seem as long as it, surprisingly few hits but some really great songs
