Nice chill music

Mellow album. I've listened to this one before and I like it. It's really mellow. If you're at work dealing with a bunch of jagoffs, this is a good album to put on.

I'm thrilled to find some quality trip hop in the mix, and "Smoker's Delight" by Nightmares on Wax delivers that laid-back, atmospheric groove that fans of the genre can truly appreciate. This album effortlessly takes you on a journey through its downtempo beats and ambient textures. It's the kind of music that's perfect for late-night relaxation or chilling out on a lazy Sunday. Nightmares on Wax captures the essence of trip hop with a blend of jazz, soul, and electronic elements that create a unique and captivating sound. "Smoker's Delight" is a testament to the enduring appeal of trip hop, and it's a welcomed addition to the genre's legacy. If you're a fan of this style, this album is definitely worth checking out.

Cool relaxed trip hoppy beats, enjoyed 4/5

Really fun trip-hop album that feels like you're chilling at a jazz club. I was surprised by how long it was that it only dragged in a couple spots. Looking forward to keeping this in rotation.

I wouldn't say this is musical wallpaper, or even background music. Some of the samples are a bit too foregrounded for that. It definitely isn't in your face though. Fills a nice musical niche: headphone music to get lost in. Dreamy, headbobbin' stuff.

Initial thoughts on seeing album name and band was this is going to be interesting. On hearing first minute, this is going to be very interesting. 25 mins in, ok, its getting a bit tedious now. 45 mins in, actually I'm quite enjoying having this on in the background. On the whole I liked it mid-range 4 kind of liked it. Its an album produced for a reason, and if you can't work out the reason from the title it probably isn't for you. Bit long 1 hour 41 mins long in the extended version on you tube, but hayho, I enjoyed it.

Blije triphop, sampletje hier, trommeltje daar.

A fun, if at times long, electronic album. Glad to see any of these on the list because it's always easy listening. Again, some songs ran too long, others were super short but some of them were great. A welcome UK release.

I think these guys are good but I don't have the ear to appreciate it.

Sounds like "lo-fi hip hop" with breakbeat drumming and funky basslines. Chill without being boring.

It is beautiful and very enjoyable, as long as I have a need to a total focus moment. I can see myself returning as needed.

Very catchy songs and grooves. Pleasantly surprised by this album.

Trip hop, chill-out. Me ha gustado. Un 4.

Trip hop, chill-out. Me ha gustado. Un 4.

Some nice mid 90’s nostalgia from my teenage years. Hypnotic, smooth and languid, with nice beats and layered production. Yes, it’s probably too long, but ‘Smokers Delight’ still holds up really well today. This is a strong 4.

I think the name smokers delight is prefers to describe this record. It’s such a chill, tropical, and fun instrumental record. I was a little tempted on a 5 but I think it drags a little too hard. Had this been a 50 or even 40 min record of the best material here and you’re looking at a 10. Even with that gripe I think this record is easily one of the better instrumental records I’ve heard can’t wait to listen to it on a good sunny day with a nice joint, maybe then It’d be a 10 but for now we’ll settle on a mid - strong 8, solid record give it a listen 👍

Enjoyable. There’s a time and place for this stuff.

Love a good funky hip hop instrumental album. I can focus on one sound or listen to them all blend together. Love the continuity between songs.

first time listening pretty chill background music

I'm normally not a fan of the largely-instrumental tracks but I found myself enjoying this. This definitely will be great to hear on vinyl and seems perfect for any somewhat-upscale gathering. Seems like great studying music too.

Really pleasant listening

A really gentle skull fucking that left me weeping and gasping for air. The culmination of the tantric head sex made me commit a bad, bad crime which I can't quite remember.

I enjoy most of the trip hop recommendations on this list.

Really rather lovely

Groovy and funky, though the only think stopping this from being a 5 star album is length, both of the songs and the albums, I think if alot of the songs were a little bit shorter, and therefore the album was shorter, this would be an easy 5, but as is it drags a tiny bit

BL: know this album and have 2 songs already saved from it - “nightmares introlude” and “dreddoverboard”, look forward to listening to the rest of the album. AL: I liked it. Listened to the digital deluxe version which had some bonus tracks too. Overall while I liked it, it did feel quite samey. I know why this album exists, for the sole purpose of zoning out to whilst your “hazed” so sober its not quite the same. If this album was 45 minutes it would be brilliant but the extra content makes it a slightly overstayed welcome. FT: “pipes honour”, “stars”, “Rise (Reprise)” 4/5

Hahaha when I first read the title (it rang a bell but haven't specifically listened to this before or any Nightmares on Wax) I thought of classic tobacco smoking not weed and was like ooh what kind of music would that be and then I thought of when I used to smoke and what different kinds of music I used to like listening to haha! But this makes a lot more sense and it's wonderful. Very nice and relaxing to listen to and nice to actually work to, good jazzy sections. DJing is a skill which seems really abstract to me as I know basically nothing about it so it seems extremely impressive. I kind of group it with the parts of song-writing where some people have this incredible vision for what will sound amazing and how to build the layers of sound to something great. Again a hard skill to master which is really big in DJing unless you literally just throw everything together until it sounds great. Long story short, I like it and I'm impressed.

Good for vacuuming

This is my type of programming music. Lofi feel, minimal words. My type of shir.

I quite like the 2000 +/- 5 years downtempo chillout oeuvre, and this is a fairly solid example. Nice background listening. Fine to work to. Fave track - "Nights Interlude" - apparently there are two other versions of this track on two of their other albums, and lord knows how many remixes. I'm sure I've heard it many times on interchangeable compilations with titles like "Ibiza Chillout Session" and "Clubbed Out 2000"

I was very pleasantly surprised. I wasn't expecting to like it at all, lol. But it was very chill. Each song had its own theme/sound so it wasn't repetitive like some. 7/10, which is pretty good for me not really liking this genre.

This caught me in the right mood. Had heard the opening track before.

I thought this was going to be pretty relaxing music which was in danger of being bland, but it wasn't bland and simultaneously lived up to its name It started off a 2 Then a 2.5 Then a 3 Then a 3.5 Could it go further? No. No it can't. Still good though, and Bless My Soul is going to be played on repeat for the few days. 3.5

I do love me some instrumental hip-hop, and this album delivered the goods. This was bumping in the whip when lo-fi girl was still in diapers. If there’s anything I’ve learned about Nightmares on Wax, it’s that he loves the use of (brackets). Also thought there were strong Nicolas Jaar vibes on Groove St.

I can't believe I am giving it this rating

It seemed a touch dull at first but after multiple listens and in the right frame of mind I began to see the light. It is a beautifully uplifting and relaxing album with irresistibly catchy phrases throughout. Perfect for a ride home on a night bus. 4+/5

Fantastic chill vibes.

The sort of album that I can listen to when I'm chilling. I listened to it while working and it was great for helping with concentrating as well!

If I had lower expectations, the bar would have been under the floor. Maybe that's the key to happiness in life? I really enjoyed this album, the whole thing is a damn vibe. I had it playing in the back while I worked and it fit perfectly. Great Recommendation.

Awesome chill background album. It is great for background work type of stuff. However, as an album by itself, it does not really stand up, as the music is not, in my opinion, interesting enough to listen on its own. That's why it will get only 4 stars.

Dig this. Laid back vibe but with a good beat.

As good as chill can be and ever got.

First few tracks I found kind of boring? But as it progressed I found myself grooving more and more. There are tons of ear wormy sounds that start to tickle your brain as the album progresses. I think I need to relisten under the blissful influence of an edible to fully appreciate it.

Probably best when the listener is in fact partaking, but a good listen regardless. A trip-hop staple that takes the ears on a woozy odyssey.

Really good surprise with this album... Mix of genre and standing out of any other album listened.... Some hip-hop, jazz, electro things blending together and in a good shape in my opinion. Was good to hear. Not perfect ina ll aspect but glad I heard it. Decent 4/5

Fun, light

Pardonnez-moi mon Père d'avoir jugé cet album à sa couverture

I’m not quite sure how this one passed me by: my era (mid 90s), links to Sheffield and Leeds, trip hop. Anyway, it’s really good, lots of genres and influences but sounds great in its own right. Hard to pick a best song as it’s a groove, man, but I’ll go for Nights Introlude.

Super chill. Classic.

Honestly this album was a vibe. Not a 5/5, but quite enjoyable.

Nice ambient trip hop. Relaxing for work or studying

I liked this, seems like a good album to have on for a summer bbq or long bike ride, great summer chill album. Went on a bit long. Made me think of Khruangbin at times. Will definitely give a listen to Carboot Soul as that release seems to be held in high standards as well.

First song is so persona

I think this is the first album in the electronic genre apart from Kraftwerk that the list has generated so far that I actually liked. No surprise that it’s a Warp release. The tracks on this album sounded composed and organic which is rare for an album in this genre. I didn’t feel like the songwriter was just looping shit repeatedly and adjusting levels to create the track. Looking forward to checking out more of their / his stuff.

I was not a fan of track #2, but other than that, this is excellent background music for working (depending on how much focus is required) and just vibing online. I don't know what other moods this album would fit but I know I will be adding this to my library. :)

Lofi beats to study and relax too mixed with a bit of reage, sounds wonderful. I dig it

Love me some trip hop lo Fi whatever the fuck 4 long ass album though

I like this one. It's very laid back and dreamy. It is a little long in my opinion (I get fatigued at around the 45-minute mark) but a worthy listen. There are some bassy grooves on here that remind me of dub music, and other tracks are more jazz-inspired. 3.5/5, rounded up Fave tracks: Nights Introlude, Pipes Honour, Cruise (Don't Stop)

This is a laid back, slow burn of an album. This is actually great for getting work done to.

Trippy funky ambient chill out. I might revisit this.

Great chill out music

Best Trip-Hop album ever? Ok, I've only heard a few but this is tops for me. Absolutely loved the vibe and sounds of this album. This is why I love the 1001 albums list - because of gems like this that I would have never heard otherwise. The album cover really threw me off... So, I was pleasantly surprised it wasn't a cheesy Rap album. I don't think there are any songs that stand out as exceptional, the entire album seems like one seamless work of art best-enjoyed start to finish. 4/5

Surprisingly delightful. Very nice jazz progressive feel

Pretty cool -- like little beats and tunes with no lyrics. Pretty solid work music and I liked it

Verrassend!

This is as good as it gets for music to listen to while working or studying or otherwise mentally occupied.

If it’s good enough for the pharcyde it’s good enough for me.

Really nice soothing sound. Great background music. Thoroughly enjoyed. B

Laid back grooves, takes me back to happy messy times

Absolutely lovely. I wish this were as good an album as carboot soul, but it still takes me back to the drowsy days of chillout rooms and basement flats with tea in chipped mugs and the smell of weed, tobacco and damp.

Brilliant album. One of the best ambient, trip hop sounds

I bet this album is incredible when you're high.

lie this a lot and will certainly revisit

Punk AF, fun AF as well. Love it.

Quite the song writer. I'm impressed. I really expected them to be a one hit wonder where everything else sucked. But these guys are good.

Not what I was expecting.

Rätt episkt. Måste lyssna igen!

Chill lounge music

Didn't have the luxury of a nice, long focused listen today but this provided a groovy ambience to my dinner-making. Nothing was particularly standing out until Bless My Soul and its delightful boings. I loved that track and the next, Cruise (Don't Stop), and Rise and its repRise. It's nice. I'll keep it.

I got heavily into trip hop around the time this album came out. Problem is that I never heard this album until about a decade later so it is never going to be my go to of this genre. I do like the how its sounds are missing link between Acid Jazz and Trip Hop and beyond. This is a great album if nothing but for its legacy

I can dig it

Kind a a theoretical 4. This is exactly the kind of stuff I was into 20 years ago, I bores me a little now and I’ve not got time for the full 70mins, but still a place in my heart for triphop.

Great for listening to on a holiday balcony. Probably wouldn’t have scored it so high otherwise.

So glad this wasn't a reggae album as I expected. Perfect example of airport music.

Clima muito bom com instrumental trip hop.

oh boy. Lovin the triangle on this first track. Great background music and enjoy the range of it

Really chill instrumental. Enjoyed very much

This genre is quite relaxing. May listen again when feeling super stressed out.

Reminds me of theivery corporation, though I'm not sure which came first.

Groovy but calm, good background music for working.

Early dub and reggae instrumental that paved the way for a ton of future stoner groups.

I find this album really enjoyable and relaxing all the way through. No bad songs. I give it a 4/5, though my parents loved this album when I was growing up so some of the good review may be nostalgia for me.

Loved this and rabbit hole stuff for other things like it.

I don’t really like this style of music for a whole album, but it’s good for what it was. 8

Groovy beats, though a few songs were weaker than the rest. Solid 8

7. Good for what it was, didn't excite me

Super long but ultimately pretty good background music. 7

Study music

I was very pleasantly surlrised by this album. Looking at the cover and the name I was absolutely expecting reggae which was not the case. Instead I got cool trip hop I could chill to.

Sweet chill vibes

Hooked me from that sample that Passin Me By uses. Chill beats to zone in with

Love when you look up a generator entry on wikipedia and literally the only information is "uhhhh it was in the album generator book?" Alright enough experience for some vibes and not much else.

No private session used for Spotify. Definitely ambient background music. It's not bad, but I generally prefer listening to my music more proactively. I think this is a 2.4 -2.7, but I am giving it a 3 so it's not lumped in with Taylor Swift albums.

The album is pretty cool but most of the songs are way too long. The loops are not interesting enough for 8 mins.

Pretty cool, runs a bit long but otherwise enjoyable

It's fine. Interesting sounding background music. I prefer Martin Denny so I likely will never add this album to my collection.

Was vaguely aware of Nightmares on Wax - but was expecting a more dubby / stoner vibe for private school reefer boys. Was therefore a bit surprised that its much more commercial/jazzy ambient and upbeat than was expecting. Its a perfectly pleasant background listen - but having listened to it twice I cannot recall a single song/ movement - its all very superficial and empty. Hardly a nightmare.

Good, chill background music, better than a lot of electronica/dance that I've heard. And also, I will likely never listen to it again.

This is perfect for flow-state background music while you work or do whatever you want to focus on. Unobtrusive, trance-like, and some cool samples from different genres. Not the kind of thing I'd throw on to just listen to the music by itself, because it's not particularly interesting, but music like this serves a purpose for me at least.

Smooth grooves, real nice to listen to in a drift. But you chose this one just for the album art didn’t you?

Mellow sounds on a hot Saturday afternoon, need to listen to the 2nd half of the album

This title and cover are very misleading. I was very confused by the lack of traditional reggae style. I'm not mad at that cause tbh reggae isn't really my thing (I'm open to trying more tho!). It's an alright instrumental album, I like it less than ones I've listened to prior in the list as I just started to get really bored as it went on. Gives background music vibes, but moreso what plays in a crowded room where you can barely hear the music. I'm not putting this on unless it's for that specific situation, not bad per say but not very interesting. Fav Track: Rise

Loved the vibes, it all kinda blended together though

Enjoyed it, butt didn't realize it was instrumental.

I prefer my trip hop with a bit more cinema, a la Portishead. But totally chill and unobtrusive!

This is great background music. Adding it to my work rotation.

Datert på en koselig måte. Ruller og går, og blir heismusikk.

Average EDM. Nothing terribly enlightening.

Very chilled but didn't have a major impact either

was very much not setting this up for success by having it kick off my catch up now that i'm behind. it's long but it's a consistent vibe. i rock with it

an alright vibe but pretty same-y

Soundtrack-y

I dig NoW, and seeded a Pandora station with it. But then added Gramatik and others to it to keep it compelling in the genre without it getting boring.

idk man just a whole lot of stuff but nothing that really stand out

Great background music if you are into that sort of thing. I listened to this while doing a crossword puzzle and it was very cool and relaxing. 6.5/10 Top song Dreddoverboard

Pretty monotonous. I expect I'd enjoy it more if it was 4am and the X was wearing off. Still, I'd rather listen to this than the recent string of 2 star albums I've endured.

Music to scratch your soles by after an exhausting day while having a long drink that's maybe a tad too sweet. It is a document of its time and there have certainly been more annoying entries from the Café Del Mar era than this one.

I can see why this record is included here. It's bringing in a lot of interesting influences into his production, ranging from funk and soul to reggae. At times, the downtempo music creates atmospheric moodiness, but other moments feel a little sterile. However, it gets brought into a loops oriented electronic music that feels like its designed for the background of a party that creates a vibe while largely being ignored. It's fine, but I probably won't listen to it again.

The very interesting album lots of typical chillout electronica but there's lots of electric guitar and acoustic instruments also it's the kind of album you listen to when doing deep thought work

inoffensive turntable

This is such a smooth, light, and relaxing album. While listening I felt chilled out, warm, and pleasantly floaty — the kind of record that puts you in a good mood without even trying. It’s groovy as hell with that perfect laid-back trip-hop/downtempo feel, but it also has this subtle spooky, almost eerie atmosphere floating underneath. That weird little contrast makes it really interesting. The beats are fat and bouncy, the basslines are deep, and the samples are chosen beautifully. It never gets boring — even at its most relaxed, there’s always something nice moving in the background. Smokers Delight is one of those records that feels both nostalgic and timeless. Smooth, groovy, a little spooky, and never dull. Really enjoyed every minute of it.

Smoker’s Delight Although this is from 95 it has more of a late 90s feel to me, reminding me of some of those easy/chill-out bands from the turn of the millennium, like Zero 7. On the whole this glides along very pleasantly, and it's very easy to listen to, especially while working. It occasionally drifts into slightly more interesting darker, gloomier trip hop territory, and while I think I would like a little more of that I don’t think ultimately that’s the vibe they were going for. For the most part it also sounds very good, but sometimes it shows its 90s hand a little, especially the guitar on something like Pipes Honour. It is looooong though, even without the bonus tracks. I’d definitely listen again, most likely when I need something to work to - although there are other albums that do that job I’d probably go to first - but I don’t think it quite reaches a 4. 🚬🚬🚬 Playlist submission: Bless My Soul

I like this a lot for smooth, trip-hoppy background music. It's like warm blanket all around you. But it's all samey. You could have gotten the same thing from Suno or some other AI generator with a prompt like "Give me a funky trip-hop background lo-fi vibe for my Rasta themed coffeeshop". I think you'd get something very similar. My Rating: 3/5

Precursor to chill hop meant to be listened to in chunks while working on a playlist. Hard slog through a 80 min album. Solid for what it is but def not needed before I die.

Interesting album

first listen decent background music

That synth at the beginning of pipes honour scared the living shit out of me. But yeah, this is a very enjoyable album to listen to, but i dont think i will be revisiting this anytime soon.

Pleasantly surprised - very nice album to have playing in the background

I can't believe I got this album on 4/20, it can't be coincidence right? Anyways, besides that fun little coincidence I have next to nothing to say about this album except complain about the runtime. How is an album that is basically just the same 30 second loop on repeat an hour and ten minutes long??? The songs aren't bad, but boy do they drag on... if every song was 1/2 the length and the album was only like 30 minutes or so I could see myself considering giving it a 4, but as is, one man can only take so much dub. Low 3.

While I'm sure it's good, I was not in the bad to sit through stoner music today. Maybe I'll revisit this another time. I got through four tracks before having to take a break as it all sounded too same-y to me. Not bad though. 3/5

Kind of a vibe tbh

Enjoyable chill out music, not much more to it. Natural wine and small plates kinda music. You'd never ask for it to be turned off but, you're not gonna rush to ask to put it on either. Inoffensive but a very chilled and enjoyable listen as well.

I listened to these chill beats on a Saturday morning while drinking coffee and doing my taxes. It was perfect.

Another album I thought I'd hate but actually ended up vibing with. Strangely chill and easy listening

this was absolutely fine - kinda boring - background music - exactly a three

Ive heard a bit of Nightmares on Wax before (carboot soul, etc). I pretty much got what I expected with this album. Groovy instrumentals are plenty, and there are no bad tracks that stand out to me. However, it lacks that x-factor that separates a great album from a good one. 3/5

This was ok, apparently I have a soft spot for trip hop. Even wondered about giving it a 4, but I can’t quite imagine being in the mood for it as opposed to it being unexpectedly listenable.

This was pretty fun and chill, I will admit. I'm not usually one for DJ albums but this was alright. However I will also add that after it ended, other songs auto-played and I had no idea that the album had finished, haha. Not sure if that's a demerit against the album. But I also can't really say I have a favorite track, as they all kinda blended together for me.

Contact the main video game companies(Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft), and tell them to listen to this album. Every track sounds like a video game menu theme, intro theme, or town theme. Seriously. It can't hurt, because listening to this for over an hour straight gets a little stale. Favorite Track: "Wait A Minute/Praying For A Jeepbeat".

hip-hop electronica Favorite track: Groove st other picks: nights interlude, dreddoverboard, rise

This reminds me of the bar Departure in Portland, OR Nice vibe-y background music, but not sure it's worthy of this list; it's so forgettable.

OK album, not the best from nightmares on wax's catalogue. 3/5

Listened previously. Expectations: Mid - Verdict: Good - I like this album. I don't think it's mindblowing and there is other stuff in a similar vein that I enjoy more, but every track here is just quite good.

- Pretty nice background listening - Nothing really stood out (in a good or bad way)

I almost hate to say it but this is pretty decent. It feels like background music but it hits a groove and in the right situation I could enjoy this being on. It's not a masterpiece and not a cornerstone of music, but it does have an element of what makes music an art and with 1,001 albums, a few like this make sense.

I really dig this album, but not really sure why it's on the list. Great beats and melodies to jam around to, but nothing really stood out - just seems like a well produced DJ/mixtape

Really enjoyed this as background music. Good to listen to on the tube while reading my book. Did mean I wasn't paying a lot of attention to the individual songs either time I listened to it. Not sure if I would listen again, but I might return to it if I need to focus on something and want background music playing. Fav song: Stars Least fav: Groove St. - Smokers Delight Original Version

I knew of this by reputation but had never dipped into it… It was alright but I found myself drifting a little bit - it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t anywhere near as innovative as I might have expected.

Ordinarily the kind of album I like and nights introlude is a great song but this ran on for much too long with too little variety to keep things interesting. There’s a lot going on the bass but precious little in the treble range and so a lot of it felt like a backing track for something else and meant it felt like something was missing as a result. A little disappointing.

When I tell you I had zero idea of what to expect with this album, I mean I had ZERO idea of what to expect. What I got was a chill and enjoyable mix of electronic music and reggae. This is one of those "file away for future use" records. It was fine in the usual environment I listen to these records (on my morning commute/setting up my classroom) but it would have been made even better if I was chilling on a beach, getting high, hosting a party, or some combination of those. As it stands it gets a 3/5 maybe leaning more to a 3.5 but an easy 4 given then right circumstances.

smoke on

Not what I expected from the name of the album, but it wasn't bad. I can always listen to some downtempo jazz.

This was album that was playing in the background of a lot of parties in the old days! So have definitely heard before. Was never my favourite genre, a bit too 90s and laid back. 3.5 rounded down Heard before? Yes Owned: No 59/234 (24%) Will I get: Maybe

Very chill.

Some interesting stuff here, but it fades nicely into the background and goes on a bit long.

Man, you must really have to be a smoker to get any delight from this, because I didn't get much. Smokers Delight is definitely one of the albums of all time. It sure does exist all right. Yeah, I found this one pretty boring. It works decently well as background music, I'll give it that, but you try focusing on this thing and analyzing it as I have tried to do for all of these albums and you're gonna have a real hard time finding anything noteworthy to say. The production is kinda nice for the most part, but there's basically nothing memorable here. And of course the album goes on for too long, because why wouldn't it? I'll admit that this is probably a case of me not being the target audience for this, so I can't really give it too low of a score, but I also just don't care for it. It's fine. Low 3/5.

Favorite Track: Cruise (Don't Stop)

A little less annoying to me than most “dance“ music. He kept the tracks short and the beats interesting. Blended nicely into the backdrop of my morning. Maybe not the effect he was hoping for, though.

It is kind of background music. I’m a little underwhelmed, but honestly, I might listen to this while studying some time. Mid 3

New to me. Enjoyed

Some totally serviceable background music for your turn-of-the-millenium lounge bar/ airline / salon.

I really don't know what to make of this tbh. I felt like it had some good ideas but other parts just really seemed to meander along. Weird experience.

a bit long but cooler than i expected, nice atmospheric listen for a working afternoon

To me, Smokers Delight is perfect background music. It's laid back, sparsely instrumented, and doesn't demand your attention. That being said, if you try to actively listen to it, you'll probably be bored out of your mind. In order to truly enjoy it, you've probably got to be stoned out of your mind, which I'm not, so I found this album to be pretty alright. I really like the instruments they chose, and honestly enjoy the vibe it offers. Most electronic music tends to be grating and annoying for me, but this one's pretty smooth and nice. It's a bit long, but once again, listen to it in the background (but still pay some attention), and it alleviates a lot of the tediousness of listening to a 75 minute (mostly) instrumental background music album. I really liked "Bless My Soul", I liked the sound it had. Favorite Song: "Bless My Soul"

Enjoyable for general background chill vibes

Okay. Good.

I liked this initially, but it started to get repetitive after a while. It was a little like Moby on Valium.

Low ride good background music

It's only February man sorry

Meh. Not nearly as interesting as the cover suggests. I quite literally fell asleep listening to this album... That said, it's not offensive in its blandness. It gets the three stars of "meh" mediocrity.

Way too long and boring, but I gave it +1 star because I am in a good mood. This was my last album. I AM FREE!

inoffensive vibey music, no standouts.

Solid album, very interesting. 5.3/10

The album title sums up what state you need to be in to enjoy/endure this. There are interesting enough samples but really this is an album that can be left well alone. Too quiet and not memorable enough when it stirs

well, it sure does seem like it would be rly nice if ur stoned! and probably rly good background music for a variety of other activities (even the entry in the book seems to be listing things it could be a good soundtrack for). i cant punish it too hard for doing what it wants to do but you'll forgive me if i struggle to care ab this much at all, even compared to some of my other underwhelming recent listens. not one of the weirdest inclusions in terms of pure quality but definitely in terms of function!

This is the type of album that I will put on and be like, meh, but then I remember to turn the volume up just to the point it starts to get a little uncomfortable, and voila! it sounds great. I do think this album could have been made shorter and punchier without losing the chill aspect.

It’s not bad. Sounds like the kind of music you’d hear pumping in boutiques.

90's Hipster Nightclub Music, Part MCXXVII

10/02/2026 1. nights introlude - okay... immediately a bit 808 state-y. nice bass. wasn't expecting this from the album cover, but am not complaining. not mad on the keyboard/piano solo. 90s hip hop easy listening? nice :) liking the sound of waves going into the next song.... *2. dreddoverboard - real nice bass again. reminds me of something and i don't know what.... bass is frying my ears even though it's not that loud... ooooooh beat drop. anyways may have to turn it down a bit :( trumpet!!! reaaallly loving this one. think it might be reminding me of voodoo ray a bit? still don't know what i was thinking of. 3. pipes honour - starting to get a bit concerned about the length of this album... liking it but not sure how long i'll keep liking it for. more reggae influence... love the synth just before 1:30... very groovy. drums are nice. falling asleep rn.... kindof helping me enjoy it though.... trancey.... *4. me and you - really sweet at the start. bass is still great! short and sweet!!! woken me up.. 5. stars - liking how the songs fade into one another... beat on this one is great. echoey noises are kinda psychedelic... loving the vocal samples. think i kinda actually fell asleep through this. unconsciously enjoyed it though. too repetitive for me when i'm sleepy. *6. wait a minute/praying for a jeepbeat - bass has woken me up. sooo great! tempo change woke me up again. loving this one. actually fell asleep so listening to half of this one again. *7. groove st. - already listened to half lol. thought it was just another change up. like the vibe of this one. bass reeeaaal nice. 8. time (to listen) - literally 25 seconds... 9. (man) tha journey - keep falling asleep throguhout this album, so maybe not the most accurate rating tonight... trying to stay awake again, but can't really help it. liking this one again. like the tambourine? 10. bless my soul - loving the intro... not enjoying jt as much when i have to fight the urge to stay awake... noticing more just how repetitive everything is now. 11. cruise (don't stop) - not helping the dreamy mood. nice :) getting a bit tired of this and beginning to get just boring repetitive *12. mission venice - really liking the start. gets right into it. shorter than the last few songs, stops it feeling as overly long and repetitive. 13. what i'm feelin (good) - bass has been great through this whole album. kindof sounds like the ringing facetime sound on whatsapp. didn't like it as much as the others, but wouldn't complain if it was on in the background :) 14. rise - getting very sleepy again.... nice ambient track. 15. rise (reprise) - literally more of the same as the previous track.... as much as i've enjoyed it, i am very excited for it to end. 16. gambia via vagator beach - more focus on the drums... didn't enjoy as much as the other songs, but def need to give a relisten when i'm not falling asleep again and can actually concentrate. repeatedly falling asleep during this actually really helped this one for me. the way all the tracks drifted into one another helped lull me to sleep until the drums got loud or something and i woke up in the middle of the next track(s)... very fever dream ish. did have something to do after listening to this that i now don't have time for bc i spent an hour (don't know where that went?) being asleep. makes rating it a bit hard bc i don't remember half of it very well, but think i enjoyed it when i was asleep? did get a bit long and repetitive when i forced myself to stay awake towards the end, but maybe that was just coming to the end of an overly long album.... absoutely need to give this a proper relisten some time :)

It was alright. Was getting a tad bored towards the end but it worked well as good background music while working.

There is definitely something here worth listening to, but need to be in the right mood. Trip hop is not the one when full of cold

Very fine music for playing while you do other stuff.

Heel aangename achtergrondmuziek

Heel leuke vibes

I feel this hasn't aged very well. A bit boring ino

Quite liked this

Bong rips not included.

Corporate weed music. Fun. 3/5

Pretty chill stuff, as the name suggests. We liked this well enough, but it didn't stand out. Some cool sections but not enough to have us racing back.

Bisschen zu flach, wenig inhalt

Is this week’s theme ‘90s coffee shops?

Nice background music. No particular tracks stood out to me, but I mostly enjoyed the listen. It’s not impossible that I’d revisit.

Reasonably listenable electronica. A little repetitive at times, but OK as background music to listen to whilst doing other things.

Chill music that fades into the background

Excellent

A very pleasant triphop album, but definitely nothing worth writing home about. Might be the best elevator music ever written but it's still elevator music

Fine to do chores to. Good energy

My opinions on this changed a bit as it went on. I do like chill, downtempo stuff like this, but the more it went on the more I got tired of it. While it still remained of a certain quality, it just became very repetitive by the end and was just way too long. I’d only been aware of this guy via a ‘LateNightTales’ compilation, so I’m glad I got to listen to a whole album at least. It’s not one to reach out and grab you, and it is overlong and kind of samey, but it’s also a nice listen for the most part.

joa ganz chill idk

It's a very background chill 3 stars kind of album, and apart from the first track Nights Introlude not anything I can get excited about. But then I don't smoke weed.

This one caught a lot of bad reviews, but it was pretty decent. Laid back, hazy, and easy to let run without needing to pay close attention. I can definitely see how this album would be even more delightful if you were smoking something while listening to it.

Decent.

Favorite track was pipes honour

Only managed a small amount of this one but it was just some ambient dance - nothing to get excited about

Super duper chill. It’s like if jet set radio was a video game about chillin and Graffiti art instead of roller blading and graffiti art. This was a fantastic background music album. Some grooves, some head boppers, but it never ever dropped out of or exceeded the chill zone. Wasn’t too ambient, nor too distracting. Perfect balance between directly engaging and enabling a flow state throughout the day. I saved it on Spotify. Being very stingy with my 4s and 5s but this almost got a 4.

Background music, elevator music, it is soothing but also kinda boring... Pleasant to listen to while doing anything else not requiring you to actually listen... It's ok.

Mellow hip hop

I don’t remember listening to this but I know I did. I think it was technoy. 5/10

Ok 3/5

Büschen gedüdel

19/1089 I did not expect these chill, groovy beats and expected more "hits from the bong" vibes. Alas, this is reminiscent of Enigma. I enjoyed the album and would have loved another 10-15 minutes to finish it out. This will go on the playlist at any restaurant I'm asked to create a playlist. It would also work on a sunny day around a private pool with a bevy bikini-clad babes and cocktails.

Electronic music with some reggae influences was a nice change but still not all that exciting

Mostly instrumentals, otherwise very soothing. I prefer music with vocals or I would rate it higher

chill tunes to zone too while you do whatever it is you happen to be doing while this album plays.

Instrumental, buena vibra.

Good beats, good vibes. Digging this album!

This is the first artist I’ve gotten that I’ve never heard of at all. I was pretty excited to go in blind and the first track was great. Vibey stoner jams I can get down with that. Then it just kept going. The album was at its best when it stepped outside of those comfort zones like on “Mission Venice” and “What I’m Feeling(good)” 6/10 Favorite tracks- “Nights Introlude” “Mission Venice” and “What I’m Feeling(good)”

"Le vestiaire est au fond à gauche, voici vos 2 billets pour vos consommations" je me sens dans un 5 à 7 de job. C'est d'adon dans la période des soupers de Noël. Mais c'est pas trop mon style, le lounge. Quoique je reconnais que ça sonne bien cet album.

Faudra j’écoute plus mais c’était de la musique d'arrière plan plus que d’autre chose… il existe mieux en ce sens

Good for cool, hip bar ambiance

Chill but not hugely engaging.

Interesting.

Good post club album I would think. And remember first track from that distant scenario. Mellow electronica. Definitely a place for this. Never strays into greatness though. In the wrong mood would be quite dull (occasionally). But some interesting diversions and not as wanky as a large chunk of Ibiza Chill dross out there. Close to a 4.

Cool and smooth. Didn't mind it at all, especially the first track

I was always more of a Carboot Soul man back in the day..just played them back to back and still came to that conclusion. This one seems to fade into the background a little more.

A different era a different me

Wow! Pleasantly surprised, was presuming with their band name they’d be heavy metal. Great music. Thanks

Good soundtrack of life album.

Very enjoyable ambientish, hip-hop like album, plays really well. Some parts feel a bit repetitive but otherwise it's a good one to have playing while doing things.

The whole thing starts to lull and dull after an hour, but it would make perfect background music in an Ian Schrager hotel lounge.

Decent background music to work to. Personal enjoyment: 3/5 Relevance to this list: 4/5

Who? Wikipedia says the music genre is Trip-Hop / JazzStep / BreakBeat / Chill-Out / Electronica / DownTempo which seems to cover a lot of bases. Chill-Out music for an elevator. On the whole, I quite liked listening to the album, but it's a bit boring so I wouldn't buy it.

An alright album, I liked Me And You and Cruise (Don't Stop).

Great interlude to some of the more intense albums on the list.. Really chill and nicely composed.

Started off really enjoying this, enough for 4 or 5 stars even, but it went on for too long and got progressively more boring. Can imagine it would sound good in a dark, quiet room on some good headphones.

66/100. A chill blend of trip-hop, soul, funk, and downtempo electronica. While it doesn’t always push boundaries, it nails the atmosphere it sets out to create.

This was really great music to have on in the background.

nice background music

Very pleasant trip hop. Background music at best though

Ok - 3.0

I’d listen to it again, won’t seek it out though

Cool grooves throughout. Definitely an artist who influenced people like Paul Oakenfeld, Fatboy Slim, and Moby. Cool listen, if not my jam.

Had this on as background music mostly but it was solid

i like stoners, they're just good people ... and they move real slow you never gotta worry about them

Stick this on a date night. Not for me for every day listening but yeah I could see this being great if I was high af

Pretty cool atmospheric album. I think it’s about 5 tracks too long, though.

It's an album used for beats, most notably used by The Pharcyde's "Passin' Me By." It's a chill album, but very barebones.

It’s chill, I got lost in the music to the point that it turned into background music. But it’s fantastic background music.

great background music

Lovely lovely background music Not sure the cover or the title reflects the music inside Far far too long, but good

ok trip hop/electronica is my least favorite genre and this is just ok.

I was initially really enjoying the album, but about 45 minutes in I kind of got bored with it. Then I realized there was still about 30 minutes of album left. Just too long for what this is.

It's a difficult one to rate. It's good, the beats are smooth and it's cohesive, but it's not something that I'd put on to listen to. It's more like something you'd have in the background of a vintage clothes shop.

Honestly, not my first nightmares on wax album. I would go to most likely comes in third behind carboot soul and the one with the speakers on the cover. But either way, I guess this gets a point for nostalgic reasons. And because it isn't bad, it's just a little long and repetitive

Great trip-hop. Chill beats.

Forgot it was on, but in the odd moment it was on, I quite enjoyed it. Might have to give it a proper listen with headphones on my own sometime. Potential to be my kind of album.

Some of the songs were too long and kind of repetitive, cool music but would have been better if it was a little shorter

good focus music. very nice.

I was listening to and enjoying a lot of similar stuff when this came out. However this completely passed me by! Pretty good but more background that sit up and pay attention.

Schon gut aber als Album sehr lange 3/5

Repetitive. Not a top 1000 album.

I'm wondering if Dimery was friends with the DJ? Odd choice for 1001 albums. It was calming.

I forgot I was listening to this almost immediately after I put it on so make of that what you will.

This was better than expected (but my expectations were very low). Smooth background music for a cocktail lounge or party. The songs that had vocal parts were not improved by them at all. It was long and started to get boring. Could have been 20 minutes shorter with no ill effect.

Groove St. solidifies the 3.

Middle of the road trip-hop/downtempo chill music. Definitely has its place in my rotation. But barely...still, it's not horrid, completely.

#119/1001. Not counting DJ Shadow earlier I think this is the first instrumental album on this list for me, which makes me think does good music need lyrics? And if the answer is yes, how come they are 98% in English? Well, the album is full of good music, but perhaps it becomes a bit too mellow and chill and background since there are no singing melodies to listen to. I typically don't care too much about lyrics, but, well, we've learned music by singing, right? Something is missing kinda feeling, which doesn't happen with all instrumental music out there. But diggin the grooves and the retro lounge sleazefilm sounds, man... 2 and a half?
