Ok - not a bad listen just not really my thing
What an album - really torn between 4 and 5 - the non-hits probably a bit too weak for 5, but the hits are exceptional!
It certainly is - great album - pencil skirt, underwear and I spy weren’t singles, but brilliant songs. I have to give 5 on the basis I could happily listen to regularly
All Ratings
Not my thing, but great album
Good enjoyed it
Good enjoyed it
Great voice and impactful lyrics - would definitely listen again
Never heard of Fiona Apple before - really enjoyed the album though
Nice voice, found the songs a bit dresry
Decent easy to listen to middle of the road album would have given 3.5 but have gone 4
Lovely voice - really like son of a preacher man and windmills of my mind is best version I’ve heard of that, but the rest of the songs were unexceptional 3/4 - went 3
The model is a great track, but I found the rest a bit samey - not my thing - don’t really get it
Was familiar with many of the tracks 4-5 singles I think - enjoyed the album - wonder if I’d have enjoyed it if not heard before
Had this the day after Ozzy’s death - not really listened to Black Sabbath (or metal generally outside of the big hits Paranoid for example), but actually thought it was pretty good - hovering between 3 and 4, but given the timing gone 4
It’s an ok album - all songs are listenable, but just ok - nothing standout throughout
Not my favourite genre, but keen to give it a go - many of the tracks on the album have a similar construction and rhythm - certainly hasn’t left me keen to explore their wider catalogue
Pleasant easy listening
Good album - all tracks decent - Mr Brightside suffers from over exposure, but shouldn’t undermine what a great song it is
Enjoyed this as something I would never normally listen to (which is the beauty of the random album generator) - don’t think I’d revisit though
Struggled to find the complete album, but listened to their “hits” on Spotify which covered most of the tracks, plus a few others and tried to pick off the rest on YouTube - quite enjoyed it!
Great album - No duds - Little Red Corvette and 1999 really good songs - would have probably gone 9 if out of 10 - settled on 4 - was really good but not 5 out of 5.
A little bit middle of the road soft rock - beige
Great voice - LOTS of album - 6 discs - last disc purely musical (no Ella singing).
Nice voice - chilled out sound - I really enjoyed the first two tracks (the hits) and Sally - the rest fine, relaxing listen.
Really good album - strong tracks throughout - makes me want to revisit their other albums
Not my thing, but quite enjoyed it initially, Ace of Spades is obviously a classic, but it got a bit repetitive towards the end - get why it’s popular especially amongst teens and young men, much better than AC/DC in my view
Actually enjoyed much more than I expected to - good feel good fun
Great voice - enjoyable half an hour or so
Metal not my thing, but enjoying listening to stuff I wouldn’t usually - didn’t like enough to search out more stuff, but not bad at all
Another metal album - fine, but just not my sort of thing - not a bad album - just all feel very similar
Not heard of these before but really enjoyed - felt like a 7/10, but erred on the positive side and given 4 as enjoyed despite not being familiar with any of the tracks - so suspect will enjoy more if listen again
Would not have chosen to listen to this, but great album
Good album - enjoyed it - thought China Girl was an excellent version - just going to research when this album was released and therefore who did it first - Iggy did it first 1977(him and Bowie co-wrote)!
Never listened to before, but enjoyed his distinctive melancholy style
Excellent album - really impactful and atmospheric songs 8.5/9 out of 10 so a very strong 4
Great voice and energy
Good to listen to different stuff, but definitely not my thing
Enjoyable and interesting album
Folky rock a decent listen
Very different - felt almost like classical music - really enjoyed
Really interesting album - not familiar with John Cale at alll previously
Great album - gritty, bleak social commentary, but full of energy and fun. A strong 9 out of 10, but as out of 5 giving it the full 5 stars
Decent enough - a couple of tracks I really enjoyed - Freedom and what’s golden.
Very easy to listen to - pleasant way to pass 3/4 of an hour
Mellow interesting album - not heard of them before this - reminded me a little of the eels
Good fun - decent tracks - enjoyed, but not sure I’d revisit
Some of it is a bit teensge angst/politics from a middle aged man, but overall enjoyed - hard not to compare to the Smiths which are different level
Nice to listen to something from a very different era - enjoyed albeit not something I’d go search out
Decent enough - enjoyed. Doesn’t seem like a timeless classic though!
Hauntingly brilliant - really enjoyed
Not my sort of thing - found it a bit dull
Good Indie album very much of its time - thoroughly enjoyable listen
Really enjoyed - not my chosen genre, but really good tunes
Enjoyed it - not my scene, but appreciated it
Great album
Great album - very distinctive style and voice
Enjoyed this - good strong songs and story telling
I want to be your dog is decent - the rest are a little less tuneful
Decent enough - not surprisingly not dissimilar to the Smiths, but lacking a bit of something
Vibrant music - decent listen
Decent album - some really good tracks - mainly Disc 1
Decent enough - didn’t really grab me
40 mins of joyful music - wasn’t aware of the film/story so didn’t understand the significance of the pieces, will have to look up
Really enjoyed - not a big blues fan as a rule, but great album
Ok - but a bit disappointing and not particularly inspiring
Great - if you listen to the version that has the disc 2 the live recording of Come on Eileen I really enjoyed that as well
Good simple music - really enjoyed
Not a band I’ve ever listened to before and didn’t think it was my thing. However quite enjoyed and given not familiar with I think 7/10 should translate to a 4
Not my thing really, but as with most of these albums - enjoyed the fact I am listening to a breadth of music I wouldn’t otherwise dig out
Not a R&B fan, but listenable - very much a 5/10, but will give a 3 star
Ok - not a bad listen just not really my thing
Decent - interesting sounds and distinctive voice
An ok album - found it a bit uninspiring
Decent album enjoyed - really like the song Monkey gone to heaven
Interesting album - opening track 20 mins on a 40 min album.
Very different to what I’d normally listen to - raw and punky - enjoyed - not sure I’d search out again though
Great album - pleasantly surprised
Full of energy - a showman - not the greatest songs, but imagine to see that live would have been something special
Not great for me - bit low energy was expecting some disco beat and umph!
Enjoyed the hits, but found the rest a bit uninspiring
Decent enough - not someone I’d look to explore further, but enjoyed nevertheless
Didn’t know much about Flaming Lips assumed some kind of rock band. Wasn’t expecting much, but really enjoyed - wasn’t expecting a futuristic journey through robot wars in an electronic/acoustic musical - odd but interesting and well worth a listen
Not bad - excepting Message didn’t grab me though
The hits are excellent - the rest ok - overall pretty good
Really enjoyed - nice chilled album
Interesting album a couple of stand outs - similar sound running throughout most of other tracks
Interesting - enjoyed it - would never have found and listened to this without the 1001 album generator
Superb - every song a classic
Struggled to get into it - not awful, but definitely wouldn’t return to this
Great album - some very familiar songs, but lots I’d not heard before, loved the folky sound
Found this to be ok - not a genre I typically would listen to
Every song is excellent - amazing voice
Good album - a bit of it’s time, but still some great hits
Decent album - the hits stand out, but all good
Excellent hard to decide between 4 and 5 out if 10
Really enjoyed - old school
Good fun
Enjoyed - pleasant sound, distinctive voice, no real standouts, but hangs together as a decent album
Enjoyed - but didn’t grab me - perhaps one to revisit
Not bad - punky, interesting listen, but won’t be revisiting
Enjoyable - pleasant simple songs, not the more sophisticated sound of Pet Sounds
American girl is a decent song, but the rest was a little beige rock
Something very different to the usual UK/US sounds - really enjoyed would listen again/explore other stuff by Koffi Olomidé
Good album - nice easy to get into tracks
Couldn’t get excited by it - samey middle of the road “rock”
Great album - Sir Duke is a classic
Ok - a bit different, but not something I’d go back to
Ok - less impactful than earlier albums - felt a bit more hum drum
Not bad - hits decent, rest ok
Not bad - good “fun” - bit of its time
Interesting listen, but not my sort of thing
Thought this would be a more impactful album a bit under whelming
Ok - nothing that particularly grabs you
Decent - would be happy to listen again
Thought this was pretty good - felt it started stronger than it finished
Was pretty decent and then got to in the Ghetto and suspicious Minds - classics
Much preferred it to Highway to Hell - still a bit samey
Quite enjoyed a punky edgy sound
Really enjoyed - nice mellow sound - a pleasant listen
A 9 out of 10 for me - great album - so diverse and clever, but also humorous sbd quirky
As the wiki page suggested it was unknown to me, really enjoyed
Pretty sombre and melancholy - not a surprise I guess - decent enough, but hard to say you enjoy
Great album hard to call 4 or 5 - gone 5
Not a group I know, but very familiar sounds - not bad, felt a bit of its time
Really enjoyed - the hits are real stand outs, but generally decent
Enjoyed much more than I expected - decent
Enjoyed the hits and Universe (not sure it was a single) the rest was a bit ordinary I felt - was good but a bit disappointing was expecting something better
Generally decent - enjoyed without being gripped/blown away by an of the tracks
Great album - really enjoyed two massive tracks, but enjoyed the whole album
Didn’t really grab me - perfectly listenable, but unexceptional
Pretty good - lots of short sharp tracks - enjoyed
Enjoyed it - got a bit bored after first 5-6 tracks but decent
Enjoyed - decent enough - nice tunes
Very middle of the road/beige for me - suspect I’m missing something
Decent - enjoyed, but not grabbed
Good - really enjoyed - quirky mournful songs
Good easy listening tunes
Ok - nothing special, a bit monotonous
Good album - nice listen, not my usual thing but really enjoyed
Good 80s album - decent listen - of its time, but still enjoyable
I’ve clearly not got the ear for this - just don’t get it - found it monotonous and dull - people rave about it, but not for me
Good album - great voice
Excellent album - some great tracks - good lyrics and poignancy in the lesser known tracks
I recognise musicians (guitarists in particular) rave about Santana, but not for me I’m afraid
Decent - distinctive sound - enjoyed - struggled between 3 and 4
Decent - not his best but a great listen
Nice short punky tracks - decent
Original and creative sound and the hypnotic voice of Marc Bolan makes for a great listen
Enjoyed it - bit melancholy, but decent
Great album - didn’t appreciate at the time - loved the first album and didn’t get into this, but really good.
Great album - every track easy to listen to and enjoy and a number of belters
Not great
Decent enough, but nothing that really grabbed me - steady Motown
An absolute classic possibly my favourite Beatles album, but I could say that about 2/3
Decent - very distinctive voice and sound - enjoyed
Ok - preferred some of the lesser known tracks to the hits
Not really any stand out tracks for me, but as a album it’s a great listen
Not great - didn’t grab me at all - couldn’t see what made this one of the albums in the top 1001 albums ever - will take a look at what others have said as I may just be missing something
Great album - close to a 5 for me - 4 absolutely excellent tracks and the rest strong too
Ok - Rider’s on the Storm clear standout - didn’t dislike, but nothing to help me understand the elevated status of the Doors based on their music alone
Not one I enjoyed - didn’t really get it
Not by usual type of listen, but enjoyed - nice rhythms and beats - quite a calm relaxing listen really
Not my go to genre, but thought it was decent - enjoyed it
Decent - really enjoyed, solid 7/10 for me - however the fact the Musical Youth sampling was the bit that grabbed me most is a reflection of me and the fact I’m not really either a fan or indeed target audience
Decent enough - didn’t really grab me though
Very poignant - full of reflection and some level of remorse - a number of excellent cover versions
Lovely way to start Christmas Day! Not sure I’d be giving ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️if I got this in July, but I guess that’s the whole point of a Christmas album 🙂- Merry Christmas ⛄️🎄🎅🏼
Really enjoyed - melancholy, but beautiful
Decent enough - not one I’d go back to I don’t think
Really good album - enjoyed it - mellow, tuneful, folky
Decent album - enjoyed
Great album, simple tunes, not great vocals, but the lyrics and authenticity make it a great listen
Ok - struggled to get into most of the songs - would go 5 out of 10, but out of 5 probably has to be a 2 for me - too much that did little for me.
Ok - bit too much beatching for me, but decent enough
Ok - perfectly decent listen, just didn’t really grab me, certainly not “incredible” from my perspective - not quite get why it is seen as as a standout album
Ok - inoffensive middle of the road pop/rock - nothing special in my mind
A bit different actually quite enjoyed - interview at the end quite interesting too
Not really my thing but enjoyed more than I was expecting - the beauty of the album generator 🙂
Enjoyed it - never heard of them before - put me in mind of the Eels to an extent
Folky - enjoyable easy tunes with stories/tales running through them
Enjoyed the first half of the album - got a bit bored re instrumental stuff towards the end
Decent - talented, but not desperately engaging - Castles made of sand being the exception
Was ok - nothing special for me
Not my thing - feels a little bit embarrassing in terms of the lyrics - satan and devil focused very troubled teens.
Thought it was decent enough - don’t quite get the elevated status of the group
Really enjoyed it - passed me by a little at the time - was familiar with April Skies, but that was about it - really good album
Enjoyed - unexceptional, but decent listen
Really enjoyed - surprised myself as I’m not your obvious 50 cent audience
Nice mellow sound - very pleasant listen - solid 7 out of 10
Easy listen - just doesn’t grab me
Unfortunately not available, but rated 3 just to complete
Decent album - bit of its time, but much more substance and quality - more Time after Time than Girls just want to have fun
Really good - no obvious stand out tracks, but all decent - think will be even better after a few more listens
Nice mellow tunes and beautiful voice - wasn’t familiar with but could happily listen to again - no massive impact just pleasant
Decent enough - 90s indie rock type thing - nothing special, but perfectly listenable
Enjoyed - particularly the hits - got a little bored towards the end
Whilst it all a bit one pitch - I really enjoyed - something quite intense about every song
Like the album - bought at the time - decent listen
Was decent enough - nothing that really grabbed me, but a pleasant listen
Decent enough - very 70s/Bowie sound
Of its time - classic 80s, but a bit more to it than the naff pop of the era
Really like this album - if I tried to describe it the description would not be something I would expect to enjoy, but it just works
Decent album - bit too much instrumental for me, but enjoyed overall
Classic country both in terms of the melodies but also the stories told - would never have listened to this without album generator, but glad I did - good to hear something a bit different
Something a bit different - another example of an artist I wasn’t aware of and an album I would never have listened to - decent
Great listen- really enjoyed - pretty different at the time - almost a 5 star
Great album - pure raw rock n’roll - full of energy and joy
Not bad - heard much better of this kind of thing though
Not great - just couldn’t get into it
Decent - very much Buzzcock Vibe
Nice melancholy melodic tunes
Great listen, full of emotion and feeling - 2-3 classics on here as well
Quality throughout - not my favourite group, but a decent album with a “killer” track
Never heard of Nanci Griffith before, but really enjoyed - nice Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin kind of vibe
Enjoyed it more than I expected to - the hits are a bit naff, but good fun - all a bit samey I guess
Really like this album - I think it’s a definite 9/10 - will give 5 as don’t often and I could happily listen to regularly which I think is the test - like a rolling stone up there as one of his very best
Hadn’t heard anything other than hole in my shoe by them so was expecting a bit more psychedelic. Was ok - bit dull
Decent enough, didn’t really grab me, but a pleasant listen
First few tracks decent enough, but lost a bit of interest, particularly the last 5-6!
Old fashioned country - quite enjoyed - very much if it’s time
What an album - really torn between 4 and 5 - the non-hits probably a bit too weak for 5, but the hits are exceptional!
Decent album - probably became a bit popier and arguably a little naff later in his career, but this is a strong album
Perfectly pleasant - I like as background music, but not a jazz enthusiast
Not bad - some of the songs had a bit of a Pogues feel to them
Had no idea what to expect, but pleasantly surprised - was actually a relaxing listen. Expected a boring repetitive heavy metal sound and/or shouty vocals - but was mellow and melodic
Really good album - 4 of last 6 tracks didn’t feel as strong to me, but a strong 4 star with some outstanding tracks
Hard one to review - it was an album I feel needs a couple of listens. Certainly a little depressive - some songs I struggled to hear the words - turned it up, but it was actually the music that overpowered the vocals
Ok - but nothing special, inoffensive, listenable, but nothing to really grab you
Wasn’t available 😞 Gave a 3 just as an “average” score
Enjoyed it - thought it was going to be a bit dull, but was actually decent. Felt pretty contemporary, but still had Bowie’s trademark sounds
Decent enough - mellow tracks - nothing really stood out but an enjoyable and different listen
Excellent album - felt the second half was a little weaker than the first 5 or 6 but really good
It certainly is - great album - pencil skirt, underwear and I spy weren’t singles, but brilliant songs. I have to give 5 on the basis I could happily listen to regularly
Had a couple of other Neil Young albums through this and wasn’t that impressed - thought this was good though - Harvest is a great track
Wasn’t really familiar with any of their stuff, but ok
A decent listen - I prefer his slightly later stuff, but this is lively simple music and lyrics and a great voice.
Decent enough - good fun, torn between 3 and 4 stars - given I wouldn’t really look to dig it out to listen again gone 3
Found it a bit monotonous - had enjoyed the album with bonkers on, but this did little for me
The worst kind of music genre - soft rock beige bilge
Pretty decent enjoyed. Only really knew Brown Sugar and Wild Horses and whilst they were the standouts it was generally strong
RIP it up is a classic - the rest fine, but no other standout tracks
Really good album - hard to decide between 4 and 5 - hits great - errred on side of a 4, but very much a 8.5/9 out of 10
Decent - really like the big hit justified and ancient - the rest not bad.
Decent, bluesy - Gimme Shelter and Midnight Rambler classics and a country version of honky tonk woman
Not really heard much from them before, but a very atmospheric and pleasant listen - really enjoyed it
Ok - a couple of decent songs, but generally a bit too beige rock for me to really get into
It’s what I think of when people refer to a concept album - some great tracks - comfortably numb one of the all time classics. Some of it felt almost like a musical “Trial” had shades of Les Miserables
If it’s time, but good fun - a couple of unexpected covers and the obvious hits.
Ok, but nothing special - missed why it is seen as a great album
I guess she has a decent voice, but it’s all a bit naff for my liking - not proper Aretha, Ela soul, more generic R&B
Bit more mellow and experimental/hippy (possibly not quite the right word (maybe not pc these days either??)) than the sound you (I certainly do) associate with the Beach Boys (Pet Sounds being the classic example) quite enjoyed.
Decent enough - not really my kind of thing, but enjoyed, quite mournful sounding
Cool punky late 70s sound
A bit teen angst rock, but enjoyable
Excellent album - two/three real stand outs plus the big hit - Don’t you want me - really torn, but gone 4
Ok - not my sort of thing, but perfectly listenable
Decent enough - nothing massively grabbed me - might need to revisit
Great album - Thunder Road a classic and Born to Run a fantastic anthem as well - probably my favourite Boss album hard choice between 4 and 5!
His version of Hallelujah arguably the best - rest of album ok - particularly liked the last track Forget Her
Lovely vibrant music - on the basis I’m not a dancer it makes pleasant background music
Decent enough for this kind of thing feels a bit dated these days, but quite enjoyed
Ok - just nothing particularly exceptional about it - perfectly fine, but not sure why in the 1001
Goth rock - not my thing. Ok I guess - found a little dull to be honest
Ok - bit dull repetitive heavy guitars
Decent enough - Brass in Pocket a stand out classic, rest ok - quite liked Lovers of Today as well
Ok old school hip hop/rap felt a bit dated
Quite enjoyed it - relaxing music - nice beats and rhythm, pleasant voice
Great album - the track wish you were here is a classic
Decent album - hits strong, but enjoyed more generally
Decent enough - great voice
Pleasant music - I’m not a jazz enthusiast so probably missing something, but felt like nice background music for a bar or elevator!
Decent tunes - good high energy stuff
Standard US rock - ok I guess, but nothing exceptional about it for me
Nice rhythm and good energy - found I enjoyed much more than I expected
Pleasant listen - all decent, no stand out tracks for me
Great album - love the story telling running through - every track decent, 3-4 classics.
Reasonable listen - last couple of tracks a bit dull
Great album - much better than I’d realised
Never been a huge fan, but to be fair it’s a very good album all tracks are strong “one” being my standout
Great album - lots of variety - never tire of hearing it
Ok - just a little run of the mill pop - pleasant, but nothing special - last track a bit more interesting - perhaps worth another listen
Quality - not his best in my view, but still excellent - great songwriter and I actually like his voice
Would not have sought out, but found oddly relaxing/therapeutic - will revisit
Decent enough - no real standouts - prefer some of their other stuff from 90s
Passed me by a little at the time - had fairly low expectations, but actually really enjoyed
Enjoyed - all pleasant and chilled to listen to - the girl from Ipanema is a great version - clear standout
Decent enough - last 4-5 really good
Not bad - not something I’d particularly search out to revisit
Decent enough - kind of passed me by, but Where is my mind in particular is a classic
Pleasant music, but doesn’t really grab me - could happily listen to in background like classical music
Not a bad listen at all
Ok - a bit teenage angsty
Great album - scored 4 as it got a bit samey re bitches and killing
Hard listen for me - appreciate the talent but just didn’t enjoy
Great album - love the lyrics and enjoy the distinctive sound of his voice
Not bad - better than quite a few in this genre
Eccentric (purposefully) album - was actually a reasonable listen - feels a bit contrived, but quite good fun - sounds like minions in the background!
Good fun - classic rock n roll tunes
Not typically my favourite genre - tend to find a bit samey and a bit naff - this is however a good album quite a bit of variety and good fun
Great album - hits are classics - appreciate them more now than when released
Didn’t really grab me - not sure I’d revisit
Great album - one of my favourites
Really like the album - Time to Pretend and Kids are absolute classics - torn between 4 and 5, but the album tracks are better than I recalled so gone 5
Nice relaxing listen
An enjoyable bit of country - finding (worryingly) that I tend to find quite a pleasant listen
Another quality album from Prince - not in my top 3, but still excellent
Good fun country - found it pretty enjoyable
Decent enough - no particular stand out tracks
Not bad - better than a lot of the stuff I’ve heard in this genre
Enjoyed - modern classical music, relaxing enjoyable music
Bit disappointed - thought I was going to really enjoy - didn’t really get it - did little for me
Decent enough - enjoyed, just scrapes a 4
Great album - my only difficulty was 4 or 5 - it’s sunny and I’m feeling happy (despite listening to the Smiths) so I’ve gone 5
Pretty good - pleasant listen
Really enjoyed - mellow slightly hippy vibe to many of the tracks
Liked it - quite varied, Sexy Boy the hit I remember, but lots of much mellower tunes make up the rest of a pretty relaxing listen
Great voice, great album - almost a 5
Actually quite enjoyed - fun listen
Was really enjoying the pretty simple yet captivating tracks - then to take it to another level Time of the Season was the last track 🙂
Great album - fantastic talent and historic gig
Never really a big U2 fan, but hard to argue that they make good music even if not quite your thing
Really good album - every song is decent - living for the city a bit naff with the speaking and “city sounds” but otherwise all top draw
Quality - opening two tracks standouts but the whole album really good
Ok - couldn’t quite get into it, but not bad some decent stuff on there
Pretty decent - mellow, almost easy listening (Andy Williams) style tunes
A bit samey - repetitive tunes and sound - nothing special for me - probably have to go 2
Decent enough - bad noon on the rise clear standout
Decent album - good listen - quality group
Quite enjoyed - didn’t expect to - very different to what I’d typically listen to
Genuine classic - captivating tracks and 3-4 tracks that are all time greats
Wasn’t familiar with Liz Phair or this album before, but really enjoyed it - a strong 4 for me
Interesting voice - quite like the melancholy - decent album - a solid 4
Mellow - pleasant tunes
Pleasantly surprised - the opening track didn’t do much for me, but have to say that after that it was pretty good.
Decent interesting listen
Ok - a bit uninspiring - know and enjoyed Take 5?
Love the who - a couple of tracks a bit weird and certainly would be questionable today.
For me it’s one of the stronger albums of this genre
Ok - not really my thing, heavy guitar and angry singing
Pleasant mood music, nice in the background, but didn’t really grab me/have an emotional effect on me
Ok - like her voice - Love fool a classic - not quite enough to be a 4, but decent nevertheless
Beautiful album - never heard of Bill Callahan before this - strong 4 out of 5
Not great for me
Pretty good - not in the same class a Hunky Dory for me though - was torn between 3 and 4
An absolute classic - one of my favourite albums of all time
