Appetite For Destruction
Guns N' RosesSure. If I was planning an 80s themed pool party I’d play this. But I can’t fully endorse hair metal in general when I know they were such misogynistic assholes. (The Motley Crew movie is my evidence)

Nope
Really really good. Love the harmonies, the melodies, and the instrumentation. My favorite songs are: Almost Cut My Hair, and Deja Vu. I still don't love Neil Young's voice, but I like it with the rest of the band. I much prefer Crosby's voice, and it turns out the two songs I like to most on the album were written by him too.
Never actually listened to this album before. Of course I know "Jane Says". Solid album. This band has always had 80's metal, and 70's psychedelic rock vibes to me. You can hear the transition from 80's hair metal into alternative with this album.
I'm a huge Miles Davis fan, and jazz of this era in general. This album came two years before Kind of Blue, and it has such a different vibe. The songs are short, and the album is short too. It doesn't have the long solos I'm used to in a Davis album. It's all about the band playing together, and not about Davis in particular. It's a very sweet and complicated at the same time. This is such a good recording too. I really loved this album, but I'm likely to give all Davis albums of this era a 5.
Started boring and ended boring. Not a fan unless I want to fall asleep. The only good/great song is Lullaby. I understand why The Cure is an influential band but, they are not my cup of tea. Meh.
There are some good beats, good background singers. Thank goodness these songs are short. Some of the short "transition" songs are good like "I'll Fly Away". But it's not my cup of tea.
Some decent guitar riffs, ok vocals. But is this album just one giant song? Not my fav genre of music. I don't like 80s metal.

Listened to "Faith" a lot as a kid. Love his voice. This album was just ok for me.
Really good! I don't know why I never listened to The Talking Heads earlier in my life. Somehow I missed them early on, but have really loved them the past few years. Of course I love "Take Me to the River".
I really like CCR every time I listen to them.
They sound like Oingo Boingo, but without Danny Elfman's awesome voice. Not a fan. Couldn't even finish.
Always good.
Not my type of music at all. I can hear that merits of the music, but I'm not a fan of the saxophone or his voice in this context.
This is what British punk sounds like in the late 1970s? It's not my cup of tea. I liked one song. It's not bad, I just wouldn't listen to it again.
Not my thing, better than Kanye, but I gave it a 2 because I'll never listen to it again.
Not my thing.
Wow! I LOVE this! I'm not very familiar with post-rock, post-hardcore and math rock but I hear this bands influence on alternative rock. The spoken word and rhythms remind me of Nada Surf. This is definitely my first 5 star album.
I've never been a huge Joni fan. But I enjoyed this album especially the last song.
Great album! Who doesn’t like Fame. Why didn’t the album start with that song? Also, Bowie makes saxophones sound good unlike Springsteen.
I really like this album. Great beats and catchy moments. I don't usually love hip-hop because it can be super violent and misogynistic. But at least this isn't obviously violent. I didn't listen to the lyrics in a detailed way. I was tempted to give it 4, as 3 doesn't seem high enough. But will I really listen to it again...maybe more than other 4's I've rated on this list. Not sure what I will rate yet.
My initial thought about this album is that it is more pop rock than I expected. I of course love the first song, but I find the rest of the album hit and miss. It will be interesting to hear other Eels albums against this one.
I knew I would like this. I love anything darkly moody. The last song surprised me a bit, because it was more upbeat. Not sure if I'll listen to it much so that bumps the score down a bit. But overall I really enjoyed this.
I said I would give everything album on this list a chance, but I just don't like this. It's not bad, I just don't like the style. I couldn't listen to the whole thing.
Reminds me too much of The Smiths and I don’t love The Smiths. It’s just ok.
Lol. OMG! Why is this on the list?! I know this album well. I've listened to it a few times, and I weirdly like the simplicity. However, the arrangements are simple, the singing isn't exceptional. But my biggest criticism is that the lyrics are terrible, and possibly the most basic lyrics of all time. If feels like they wrote this album just to make tons of money and get laid. The cheese factor is high with this album! Is it on the list because it was popular in the 70s? Ugh. And yet...I know the lyrics to some of the songs. I would 100% sing the song Bad Company in karaoke. Never mind, maybe they are geniuses... Story time: I worked at a record store while in college, and I heard this album for the first time when someone put it on in the store. The song Bad Company came on and I ask who the band was, and someone said Bad Company. And my co-worker said "you've never heard of Bad Company" and obviously I hadn't. I asked the name of the album and they said Bad Company...thought it was very funny (and still do) that we were listening to the song Bad Company, by Bad Company on the Bad Company album. How creative and original is this band?
Eh. I hated that shopping song.
Eh, it was better than I though. But not great.
Not a fan of disco, it's too repetitive. However, I like the funk baselines, and drum beats. And I found myself bobbing my head.
This was absolutely fantastic. I have no idea why I've never listened to The Velvet Underground before. My mistake, because they were really fantastic. I also tend to love 1960s and 1970s era rock, so I was destined to love it.
I finally listened to this whole thing. And while it's hard to judge it without the movie, I'm not not that into it. I hear the few awesome songs, but otherwise it's a tough concept album to listen to all in one go. I'm not inclined to listen to it again.
I really enjoy Hendrix, but this album meandered around too much for me. Some great riffs and jams but didn't feel cohesive enough for a better score.
There were moments when I liked the music and his voice, but overall I thought it a weird and inconsistent album, and a band that didn't understand their sound or what style they were aiming for.
I absolutely love Sam Cooke. He's wonderful, and the energy of this album is wonderful. I was dancing in my seat.
I couldn't finish this. I was totally bored. Not sure why I didn't like this one verse the last Massive album.
I REALLY like this. This band was WAY ahead of their time. Definitely going to listen more.
A classic, but not my favorite of all time.
OK. I didn't want to like it, because it's dad rock. But it's actually better than I thought.
This was fantastic!
Eh this is way too cheesy for me.
I don't think I've listened to this album before. Of course I love Heart Shaped Box, Rape Me and All Apologies. But I like that I discovered Milk It and Pennyroyal Tea which are both really good.
Finally go through this. It took me three tries. Overall it's a pleasant and creative album. Once I read that it was a stream of conscious style concept album the repetitiveness made sense. But I can't see myself putting it on and just listening to it or having it as background music. Hence my low rating. It truly is just too repetitive. The one song that made me sit up and listen was The Way Young Lovers Do which is excellent, and I imagine in my head that Stufjan Stevens listened to this album and it inspired the band in Illinois.
Solid chill album.
It was just ok.
Eh. This probably horrible to write…but are The Kinks the lesser Beatles? I was kind of bored.
Loved this. Super solid and fun. Been a fan of Ray Charles for a long time.
I actually liked this. It gave me psychedelic punk Rolling Stones vibes.
The first song way AWESOME! But the rest of the album wasn’t as amazing. I actually enjoyed most of it and considered giving it a 4.
In theory I like glam rock, but an album all in one sitting is too much for me. Give me the greatest hits in small doses.
It was pretty good especially a few of the more blues rock songs. I generally really like this era of music, but this was just ok.
Loved this.
I think I had a few Air songs back on my iPod, back in the day. I first three songs on this album are great! But I'm not a fan of the remainder of the album. Still, it's not bad.
Not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
Nope
A much better Doors album than L.A. Woman.
Eh
So nostalgic! The hits are so good on this album, the rest I could live without.
Interesting and at times really beautiful. I thought about The Fleet Foxes a lot when listening to the harmonies.
I do not need to listen to this. I heard Mike playing it and it did not sound good. Not my thing.
A little too sleepy for me, but really beautiful.
She sounds good, and it's a nice 60s vibe, with decent cover songs. Apparently this was a departure from her original sound, and was her first solo record.
I enjoyed this album way more than I expected. I usually don't like Bob Dylan's voice at all. There are some really standout songs like "Masters of War" on this album. I definitely prefer more traditionally structured songs then his sing/talk rambling songs, but over all the recording sounds great and his voice actually sounds really nice. I might actually listen to this album again.
Wow I didn't realized they would have a ska kind / 80s pop vibe. Not my thing, but it's not horrible.
Yay! I really like Erykah Badu's first album Baduizm. I listened to it so much in high school. But, I don't think I've listened to her other albums all the way through. I have listened to a few songs on this this album, and "Green Eyes" has always been one of my favorite songs by her. It's 10 minutes but unlike other 10 minute songs this one doesn't feel too long. I guess I'm still an Erykah fan.
Solid soul/rock album.
Oh no. Not looking forward to this...I listened to a few songs when Mike played the vinyl but I just don't like them. This probably makes me a bad music snob.
Overall the album's not horrible, but I won't listen to it again. Toughts: It's weird hearing him sing the song "That's All Right", which was made famous by Elvis. I just listened to the original of "That's All Right" by Arthur Crudup and it FAR surpasses both Stewart and Elvis. But the Elvis version is good too. Stewart can't hold a candle to either of them. And why the hell did it transition to Amazing Grace?! That did not work at all! Why does "Maggie May" start with a classical sounding chamber piece? This album is trying too hard, and comes across as pretentious for no reason. I just realized that almost all these songs are cover songs done bady! Look up the song "(I know) I'm Losing You", the Temptations sang it, Gladys Night and the Pips AND The Jackson Five. This version by Stewart sucks! And on a weird note I know most of the words to "Reason to Believe", and I had no idea until I listened to this album. My parents were Rod Stewart fans so I blame them. I don't recognize this version, so I guess I just know the unplugged version.
Had trouble getting through this one.
Love this album.
There are some great tracks on here.
I just don't like this genre.
I really liked this album. It was super interesting. Another transition album, where you can hear a lot of different music styles: hardcore, blues rock, and psychedelic rock.
K. I wasn't going to rate MJ, because I can't listen to him anymore, but I know this album really well. So, I don't have to listen to know.
Eh. I found this repetitive and kind of boring? I bobbed my head a bit, but then got bored part way through the album.
I actually liked this one.
Eh. Not into dueling guitars in harmony.
Eh. The Beatles meets Jefferson Airplane?
This was pretty good! Almost gave it a 4.
Nope! If only they had a different singer.
So many hits on this album. Really fun.
I actually really liked this and would listen to it again. I of course know the song "Alright" from the Clueless movie soundtrack, but the rest of the album is tight and super fun.
This was surprisingly great to drive around at night to.
It's fun, but not going to listen ever again.
Overall I liked it, but didn't really connect with the vocals or lyrics. I mostly just liked the instrumental parts and drumming.
Really good
I weirdly really liked this. It fit my dark mood today. For some reason I had it in my head that Joy Division was upbeat 80s music. I now understand why this album was so influential, and can actually say I've listened to this very famous album. Really liked the following songs: New Dawn Fades, and Shadow Play.
I can not separate The Carpenters from the Todd Haynes strange film called Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story (1988). So, I associate The Carpenters with extreme sadness and pain. Which is that antithesis of their music. So, I will almost never listen to this band if I can help it.
Dear god no.
This was surprisingly better than I thought it would be. Really enjoyed it.
Eh
Love this album so much!
It's just not my thing. I really like two songs and that's it. Why is this album so long!
Such a good album!
Sure. If I was planning an 80s themed pool party I’d play this. But I can’t fully endorse hair metal in general when I know they were such misogynistic assholes. (The Motley Crew movie is my evidence)
Great album. I tapped my feet and made the "blues" face a few times. Good stuff. It's almost a 5.
I have always liked Lou Reed songs when I've run across them, but never listened to this famous album. It did not disappoint. Of course I love "Perfect Day" and "Walk on the Wild Side" but another standout is "Goodnight Ladies". This is a fun and perfectly composed album.
It was ok. Some interesting moments. Not sure if I'll revisit it. I did really like the ending song for some reason.
Didn't listen to this vey closely but I really liked what I heard.
Hell yes! I absolutely adore her voice so much, and this album did not disappoint. Just the right amount of tenderness and edge all rolled into one expressive voice. I loved "Four Women" and "Ether Way I Lose".
Lovely
Fantastic.
Not as bad as I thought it would be.
Eh, I'm just sort of bored with this style of music.
I'm not sure if I've listened to this album all the way through. I've always liked Rage, but mostly listened to the hits. This was of course awesome.
Really good
Awesome
I’ve always loved Goldfrapp but haven’t heard this album. What a surprisingly chill album. I like it but wanted something more upbeat. I thought I would enjoy it better if I was in a chill mood.
Fond memories of this album.
Catchy. I almost gave this a 4, but didn't think I'd listen again.
I tired, but couldn't finish it. It's not bad. I just can't though.
I really didn't want to listen to any Michael Jackson albums, but I have a very fond place in my heart for some of these songs.
Nice
Lovey folk/country album.
Super fun!
So sleepy! Giving me Lou Reed vibes for some reason. Loved the second track way more than the first. I'm excited about the jazzy string vibes. Over-all, a lovely album that gives me early 2000s vibes. The album would be great on vinyl. Ooo, I really like "Already Dead to Me".
I have always felt like this is a band I should like. I wanted to really like this album, but it's giving me Morrissey vibes, and it's SO depressing it's just not sitting with me very well.
Whoa I really like this! The lead singer sounds so familiar. Does he sound like the NOFX singer a bit?
I'm fond of this album already. It's fun and quirky and different.
I agree with Sean. This album is too inconsistent and weird. But it does have a few very good songs.
Nope
It's a 5. There is no other score this album can have.
First Metallica album…kinda boring? Not into it.
Hell yeah. Love this album.
I forgot about this band and how much I like their mood. Smashing Pumpkins must have been influenced by them.
Oh god is this Rod Stewart again. NOPE!
I have a soft spot for this album. It's not insanely good, but there are worse things on this list.
Love how bluesy and jazzy this album is compared to Back to Black. So much potential.
Eh
Nope
What a voice! I knew I would like this album. So easy to listen to. But, as it was common in pop music back when, most of these songs are covers. And some of the originals are WAY better. That being said Elvis is pretty great.
Blah.
I actually liked this and found it easy to listen to and fun. I've always liked blue rock and Eric Clapton.
Ok. I really wanted to like this album because it's so influential. But I just don't do well with meandering lyrics and song structures. It makes sense that she toured with Dylan a lot as they both have very poetic styles. I do like her voice, so maybe I'll try a few other albums to see if they have more structure.
I tried my best to listen and like this but I couldn't. The Eagles were my Dad's favorite band, and if the sounds were all as good as Hotel California I would love it, but this album is way too cheesy for my taste.
Eh. I really like the first song. After that this album is way too long and feels like one long song.
I've listened to this album a lot. I really like it, super catchy and well recorded. It's just fun.
Nope.
Wow, why haven't I listened to this before. SO good.
Loved this album as a kid. Still stands up.
Nice. I've always liked E&B. This was a fun easy to listen to album.
It was a pleasant album and nice to listen to on a fall day. But it didn't really grip me. All the songs sound similar. I've never been very moved by Swifts lyrics, or metaphors. The only song I really liked was "no body, no crime" because it felt different and had a good hook and melody.
Nope.
This is always going to be a 5.
Eh, not my thing. It was a bit odd. I liked a few songs, and I feel like Tori Amos was really influenced by her...but this album didn't hit.
I forgot how much I love this album. There are some weird tracks but overall so good. My favorites are all the hits, but I forgot about X.Y.U. I love that song!
Pretty good
I was resistant to give this a 5 because I'm sort of embarrassed about how much I love this album. But Mike's right, it's iconic. It's a 5.
eh
The last song is not my favorite but other than that this album is awesome. It even has a great sax solo.
Damn this album is awesome! It has to be a 5. What a voice.
Loved it!
How can this be anything other than a 5?
I listened for Mike. It's one of his favorite albums of all time...But I just don't like U2. I can stomach the first three songs on this album and the last song, but I find U2 to be boring and cheesy. I'm sorry. I really tried. But I can't.
I'm not sure why I don't connect with Fugazi. The recipe is there but I just think they are meh.
Not a huge fan of this album. It's just ok.
I really didn't want to like it but I really liked it. SO many hits, really fun album. WAY TOO catchy, I can't get a few of the songs out of my head.
I've always liked this band.
Fantastic. I knew I'd love it.
I bought this album when it came out and I still really like it.
I just can't. I really don't like Eminem.
Not my fav Coltrane.
This will always be a 5
I really like this album. Just listened to it on my own without this website prompting me.
Always a 5.
Love this band. So good.
Ugh this reminds me of jr. high. I now have I give my all stuck in my head.
This can only be a 5.
