favourite song: cigarettes and alcohol
least favourite song: columbia
1995 expanded version
favourite song: tattoo
least favourite song: a quick one, while hes away
this album goes on and on without going anywhere interesting, the 15 minute version of my generation would have been more enjoyable if i hadnt already listened to almost an hour of tripe. album started as a 3/5 but overstayed its welcome.
favourite song: i'll feel a whole lot better
least favourite song: we'll meet again
really easy listening without being boring/easy to lose focus on. probably wont come back to it very often though.
favourite song: karma police
least favourite song: fitter happier
just a very good album, not my favourite by radiohead but still worth a listen and one i'll definitely come back to
favourite song: underwater love
least favourite song: surprise! youre dead!
would probably really like this album if i was 13 years old and american. felt really confused sonically, sort of a jack of all trades master of none vibe. just not my thing at all. not completely unlistenable tho so 2 stars feels about right.
favourite song: treaty
least favourite:
no least favourite song. this album is absolutely fantastic easy 5/5.
really nice, cant really pick a favourite or least favourite song
favourite song: all the kings men
least favourite song: when im sleepy...
alright instrumentation, but shockingly poor lyrics and unbearable vocals.
favourite song: how much a dollar cost
least favourite song: institutionalized
really really great album just not quite a 5/5 for me.
favourite song: the clap
least favourite song: yours is no disgrace
just not my sort of thing, didnt enjoy the lyrics the vocals or the instrumentation particularly. can see the appeal though which probably leaves it closer to a 2.5 than a 2.
favourite song: speedway
struggling to pick a least favourite song so I'm not going. this isn't typically the sort of music id enjoy but my girlfriend broke up with me 3 days ago and this album is really hitting a spot
favourite song: dreaming of the queen
least favourite song: young offender
boring drivel
favourite song: emotional haircut
least favourite song: how do you sleep
rubbish album
favourite song: one more name
least favourite song: i sang dixie
enjoyed this a lot more than i thought i would
favourite song: i got the hots
least favourite song: you'll have to go sideways
absolute fantastic album. robyn hitchcocks lyricism is engaging and funny throughout. lovely instrumentation. an album i already loved before this.
came for the fantastic piano playing, stayed for the strange little yells he was doing
favourite song: man at c&a
least favourite song: pearl's cafe
honourable mention to hey little rich girl. pretty good album but quite a few songs feel like filler
favourite song: enemy fire
least favourite song: sylvia plath
awful album. astounds me that guitar music this boring and uninspired was coming out of the us around the same time as the strokes released is this it.
favourite song: this is the way
least favourtie song: poughkeepsie
started really well but dropped off in qualoty quickly
favourite song: around the world
least favourite song: rollin' & scratchin'
not really my sort of thing but can imagine it would be great if i wasnt sober.
favourite song: so you want to be a rock 'n' roll star
least favourite song: mind gardens
this is the second album by the byrds ive had and it started a lot stronger than the last one. however it slowed down and got fairly boring after this initial boost.
favourite song: five man army
least favourite song: hymn of the big wheel
honourable mention to blue lines for favourite song. This album was alright but not really my sort of thing
favourite song: fuck me pumps
least favourite song: take the box
very very good.
favourite song: wild wood
least favourite song: all the pictures on the wall
nothing world changing but overall pretty enjoyable
favourite song: el bumbanchero
least favourite song: simba
it was interesting and not something i really consider bad enough to get below 3 stars, even though there were moments i struggled with
favourite song: summer soft
an obviously good and well made album but my god does it go on. really not for me i dont think.
favourite song: deacon blues
really enjoyed this album.
favourite song: on the sunny side of the street
least favourite song: september song
not bad but i dont think im the target audience
favourite song: black steel
least favourite song: aftermath
honourable mentions to hell is a round the corner and suffocated love
fantastic album kept my attention throughout and was really interesting
definitely bad, but not as bad as i thought it would be.
favourite song: act naturally
least favourite song: streets of laredo
dont have a lot to say about this, its not at all bad but im not a big country fan
favourite song: the act we act
least favourite song: hoover dam
incredibly boring and safe sounding
favourite song: blank space
pop banger after pop banger, no notes.
favourite song: tomorrow’s world
least favourite song: requiem
very solid album, no major complaints but didnt quite grab my interest
struggling to think of much to say about this so im not going to
favourite song: i've seen that movie too
least favourite song: jamaica jerk off
really really solid album. kept my attention very well despite its length and very rarely got tiresome or boring.
favourite song: gangsta gangsta
least favourite song: dopeman
album only loses a star for the misogyny and homophobia, otherwise a perfect album
favourite song: im in touch with uour world
least favourite song: my best friends girl
really interes album, particularly liked the bits where you could really hear the velvet underground influence
Favourite Songs: Booty
Least Favourite Songs: Kiss Me On My Neck
Enjoyed this a lot.
favourite song: sunworshipper
least favourite song: in my arms
pretty solid just a few fairly annoying bits
really enjoyable album, just think it went on a little bit too long
favourite song: heroin
least favourite song: femme fatale
had heard this before and didn't really like it at all, has really really grown on me since.
favourite song: play in the sunshine
least favourite: the rest of them
i judt dont get this at all. wasnt into it and it was way too long.
favourite songs: words and guitar, little babies
no least favourite for this one, thought it was a really fun listen and will be coming back for more
my first 1!
awful music made by an awful person. edgy and shocking just to be edgy and shocking, not point to make other than “ooo look at me arent i scary”. baaaaaaad
favourite song: celebrity skin
least favourites: malibu, dying
the high points of this album were a lot of fun but unfortunately arent sustained for the whole of the album. falls flat at a lot of moments but overall an enjoyable listen. honourable mention to playing your song. if i could give half stars it would be 3.5 but i cant and its closer to a 3 than a 4
favourite songs: personal jesus, sam hall, we’ll meet again
really really enjoyable listen, just not quite enough to blow me away and pull it up to a 5
favourite song: hippy boy
least favourite song: sin city
it was alright but thats all it was, loved hippie boy though.
favourite song: some kind of king
least favourite song: shellback
started incredibly strongly and very rarely faltered. probably my favourite (mostly) instrumental album ive had so far
favourite song: i want you (shes so heavy)
i mean what is there even to say. obviously a 5/5, love every song on here.
favourite songs: mama gave birth to the soul children, the pros, evil that men do, inside out
no least favourites, absolutely loved this and knew that i would as soon as de la soul appeared. fantastic album. started listening again as soon as it was done.
favourite song: M62 Song
least favourite song: last broadcast
was already a big fan of kingdom of rust so had high expectations for this album that werent quite met. all the songs kinda sound the same but thats not too bad since they sound pretty good and the album doesn’t seem to drag despite being nearly an hour long.
favourite song: she watch channel zero!?
im a sucker for 80s hip hop it turns out, really enjoyed this album.
meh, not bad bad at all but sorta just passed me by
favourite song: animal nitrate
really liked this! already a fan of suede and i do think coming up is a better album but still enjoyed it. kinda like the smiths is morrissey fucked.
favourite song: candy perfume girl
fun album! very good songs and lyrics all round just very good!
favourite song: perfect day
the velvet underground are my favourite band of all time (i wish i could change my review of their debut to give it 5 rather than 4) but ive never really touched any of lou reed’s solo work before this.
went into this expecting to love it and absolutely did. feels like a very natural progression from loaded full of poppy and radio friendly moments, but without feeling limited to this style like VU were on that album. easily a 5/5 and incredibly difficult to pick a favourite song. couldve been any of them tbh but settled on perfect day (largely because i already loved it and i am a huge fan of trainspotting).
unsurprisingly theres no least favourite here.
favourite song: sweet love
undeniably fantastic singer just not the biggest fan of the songs themselves
favourite song: alone, together
so difficult to pick a favourite here. one of the best albums of its era. a masterpiece of an album thats good enough that i can forgive the band for (mostly) being private school rich kids.
favourite song: oh! you pretty things
long been my favourite bowie album. simply fantastic. also, do people not like kooks? kooks is great. honourable mention for favourite song to andy warhol.
favourite song: 10 mile stereo
really enjoyed this album, especially fond of 10 mile stereo where its at (arguably) its most shoegaze-y and really gets noisy. reminiscent of galaxie 500 (a favourite of mine) at some moments. truly a very solid album and one i think will grow on me with repeat listens
favourite song: final days
really good, kept my attention throughout and just good!
favourite song: relax
not for me
favourite song: dead flowers
never really listened to the rolling stones before but really enjoyed this. looking forward to more of them showing up here :)
favourite song: tack
i had heard a couple tracks on here before but this was my first proper listen. really really liked this. tick is such a cool song. like a punkier strokes.
interesting as a historical document but really not for me
favourite song: yellow
this was fine i think. three is probably too harsh but four would be too generous. 3 it is.
kinda boring, felt uninspired
favourite song: Medley Live from Northern Québec
this is the 4th gram parsons project ive had in 71 albums and im bored of it. was gonna be a 2 but a couple tracks towards the end saved it imo.
favourite song: white winter hymnal
thought white winter hymnal was fantastic but the rest of the album just fell a little flat for me
favourite song: Girl, You Have No Faith in Medicine
really really good album. had heard a few of the songs before but never a full listen
very much not for me, best i can say is i suppose its fine
favourite song: goodbye baby (baby goodbye)
great voice
really disappointed in this one. had heard a lot of good things but failed to live up to my expectations. do think i could warm to it on further listens however.
favourite song: boogie on reggae woman
meh
favourite song: persephone
really good, had only heard heaven or las vegas before which is still my favourite album of theirs however
doesnt even sound like a live album and is far too long
favourite song: castles made of sand
banger!
boring middle of the road rubbish
favourite: iron man
really close to a a 5 which i was not anticipating at all. a whole lotta fun
kinda conflicted with this. it rocks and is undeniably cool and up my street but its not really grabbed me. somewhere between a 3 and a 4 if im being honest. nice to have a live album that really feels like a live album, especially so soon after listening to the thin lizzys live and dangerous which felt super flat.
favourite song: train song
really enjoyed this. came at a pretty good time too cos ive been getting more into folk stuff in the last month or so.
favourite song: man on the moon
the high points on this album are so good but the bits in between are fairly boring imo. torn between a 3 and a 4 here.
favourite song: bodies
kinda torn on this one. on the one hand i want to call them a manufactured punk rock boy band and say that id rather be listening to “real” punk. on the other hand the songs (for the most part) are very good and while definitely not on the level of what other punk bands and artists were doing at the same time and since, it does hold up. 3.5 would be fair but since theres no half stars and im in a good mood its getting a 4.
favourite song: i know its over
i used to firmly believe that i didnt like the smiths. then i listened to this album after a difficult breakup and i finally got it. 5/5
favourite song: save the children
shouldve heard this before
favourite song: the girl from ipanema
meh
favourite song: sunshine of your love
really enjoyed this. loads of fun and at barely half an hour long it doesnt overstay its welcome at all, which far too many albums on this list are guilty of.
favourite song: jenifa taught me
this has been an all time favourite of mine for a while. its so much fun. youre a loser if you cant enjoy the skits.
favourite song: groove is in the heart
not a lot to say
favourite song: the real slim shady
good album shame abt some of the lyrics
favourite song: wrote for luck
really enjoyed this but certainly not my favourite happy mondays album
far too long for what it is, which is boring
favourite song: corcovado
really nice and relaxed. really enjoyed this
equal parts boring and interesting. would have gotten a much higher rating with better vocals and lyrics.
favourite song: son of a preacher man
good album!!
favourite song: anything goes
pretty good, all the songs do sorta sound the same tho
favourite song: the red telephone
not completely won over by this album. definitely had its moments tho
mixed bag, really liked the bits that sounded like VU
favourite song: hang wire
been meaning to get into pixies for a while. really enjoyed this album
favourite song: great balls of fire
loads of fun and fairly short. just full of energy
favourite songs: life during wartime, air
really enjoyed this. not quite as good as the other talking heads albums ive listened to tho. four stars!
favourite song: last of the steam powered trains
struggled with this one. i do think all of the songs are good but whilst theyre not quite boring, they are all very samey which gets a bit grating as it goes on. torn between 3 and 4 stars.
wasnt particularly into this. thought the lyrics were fairly uninteresting and the music wasnt much better
favourite song: 2:1
really dont get so many reviewers on here’s apparent aversion to britpop. this is fun! its cool! sure maybe they ripped off wire. but wire are great! surely sounding like wire is a good thing.
unrelated to this album since it is undoubtedly britpop but i see so many reviews lambasting albums for being britpop that just are not britpop. people hate britpop without knowing what it is.
anyway, 4 stars!
the fall are very good. also very cool. very good and very cool.
favourite song: bittersweet symphony
mannnnn this album kinda sucked i think. obviously bittersweet symphony and the drugs dont work are great songs, but the albums too long and never reaches that level again. i also am not particularly fond of the singers voice.
wasnt into this at first but it really grew on me as it went on. thats nice isnt it?
favourite song: single
favourite song: stand up
has a lot of very fun moments but i just didnt vibe with it too hard
favourite song: joe the lion
the first half was so good that i can forgive the second half
favourite song: 16 shells from a 30.6
really cool album. ive been meaning to get into tom waits for a while and this has me wanting more.
favourite song: skid row
people who completely write off country as a genre are absolute losers imo
this is the most 3/5 album ive ever listened to.
favourite song: the boxer
just so good isnt it
this is the second album by Doves ive had on here and neither of them have been anywhere near as good as kingdom of rust. that should be on here.
lots of fun!
favourite song: peace frog
favourite song ruination day pt 2
was way more into this than i anticipated.
favourite song: st elmos fire.
neat
favourite song: paint it black
so i listened to paint it black, then listened to the uk version in full.
i shouldve done paint it black last because nothing else quite lived up to it and this album felt loooong
favourite song: pusherman
big fan of this
i do not care for the rolling stones
favourite song: looking down the barrel of a gun
i enjoyed this quite a bit but the only drawback is that it gets fairly repetitive
favourite song: mighty long way, boning in the boneyard
im talkin bout my buddies
funk it up fishbone
favourite song: blame game
good album
the most boring person you know will insist that this is as good as rock music gets, and theyre so wrong.
free bird is very good tho
favourite song: hey joe, fire
i mean its hendrix, obviously its getting a 5
not got loads to say about this one except that trem de doido went extremely hard
i suppose it didnt overstay its welcome. you can definitely hear their influence in all of the better stuff that followed.
tried and tested method of putting your best song first so the rest of the album feels like a slog
mehhhhh. no real complaints here but it very much faded into the background
favourite song: babys got sauce
very 3/5 album. neat.
favourite song: janie jones
the clash are good arent they! probably not my favourite record of theirs but still a lot of fun. always impressed when an album opener is the best song but the album still doesnt drag.
she trans on my europe till i express
favourite song: readymade
really enjoyed some of the songs here, not so much some of the others. very hit and miss which makes it hard to rate, torn between 3 and four stars really.
who told these guys that they werent being boring? this shot was boring as hell
favourite song: in the kingdom #19
oh these guys are cool cool
favourite song: bat macumba
bloody hell what a slog that was
favourite song: student demonstration time
had its high points (which were very very good) and its low points (ehich tbf weren’t particularly low). solid album, torn between a 3 and a 4 here tho.
in a lot of reviews i end up just saying i think an album is really cool and dont offer much else. i should probably work on putting my thoughts down more coherently.
anyway, thought this was a really cool album.
one of my favourite albums oat? and on my birthday? what a lovely little treat
favourite song: one day like this
one day like this is my parents wedding song and subsequently one of my favourite songs of all time. the rest of the album is also very very good, but just not quite on the level of that.
no surprise at all that im into this
someone please let alex turner write a bond theme hes begging you 🙏
favourite song: season of the witch
fantastic album. donovan is great.
favourite song: call me al
great album
favourite song: another girl, another planet
whether john peel liked them is always a solid litmus test of a band. john peel liked the only ones.
theres probably enough really good songs in this to make a 4 or even 5 star album. however, its stuffed full of filler (particularly in the second half) to make it over an hour long.
why?
seriously why?
favourite song: big poppa
great album if a little bloated
favourite song: diamonds in the mine
maybe the strongest 4/5 album i’ve had
clearly good! but not my cup of tea :(
jesus christ what a slog this was, so long and with no reason to be. youd have at least hoped that in doing this many songs theyd get the production right at least once, alas!
favourite songs: black coffee, im down to my last cigarette
great vocals, fun songs, nothing more nothing less.
favourite song: nightclubbing
pretty sure this is the first album ive gotten with a song that features in the trainspotting soundtrack, based on that alone it deserves a 4
good! but disappointed based one what suede music im already familiar woth
favourite song: cello song
a sound somewhere between donovan and elliott smith, without quite reaching the heights of either. not bad but not as great as ive been led to believe
2 brilliant songs, and a lot of very good ones, felt longer than it was
never really been super into queen but have always had time for this album. brighton rock goes so hard.
wow! id been meaning to listen to this for ages and wow! so good, not quite a 5 but definitely one of the strongest 4s ive given.
often find myself forgetting just how good this record is. truly a phenomenal achievement in music.
when i was younger i had an unknown pleasures t shirt but to ensure everyone knew i was cooler than them i got one with the colours inverted. once got into a heated discussion with a housemate when it transpired at pres that we were both planning on wearing our unknown pleasures t shirts for a night out. one of us had to change, and in the end i relented.
anyway, perfect album, 5/5, favourite songs: day of the lords, interzone.
what a voice! lots of fun
listened while walking around manchester in the sun. had an orange calippo. and a greggs.
last year i had a season ticket to burnley fc and developed a tradition of listening to pulp (and in particular this album) on my way to games. for those that dont follow football: we did very very well. this year i havent had a season ticket and have not listened to pulp on the way to the few games ive made it to. weve been absolute dross.
great album though.
i try not to write off any genres completely but im yet to listen to a prog album that doesnt make me come out in a rash. i have some sort of physical aversion to this tripe.
fun and campy! would probably have gotten a 4 if i was deeper in the throws of love when i listened
i dont particularly dislike R.E.M., i just find them quite boring. this album really cranked it up with the boredom as well.
good album! already knew a couple of tracks but was a nice experience as a whole
you couldnt release this today. theyd say “elvis already released this album in 1960, how did you get into my office??”
thats what made elvis so special. he knew to release his music before he had already released it.
favourite song: pictures of you
very solid album, perhaps a little long for my taste but didnt particularly harm it.
good fun! im gonna go listen to the falls version of victoria now
certainly didnt have a bad time with this but dont see myself coming back to it anytime soon...
just good music throughout. playful at times but able to take himself seriously as well.
pretty cool, some nice hendrix-esque guitar
you’re gonna make me what!!?!!??
very much looking forward to never listening to this album ever again as long as i live 👍
enjoyed more than i expected but just too long for me. still very very solid
favourite song: sexy boy
really enjoyed this, definitely preferred it to the virgin suicides one (although i did seriously enjoy that as well)
favourite song: subterranean homesick blues
love a bit of dylan. not quite his best but certainly up there imho
i quite like the streets but perhaps 50 mins is too much
