Haunted Dancehall by The Sabres Of Paradise

Surprisingly great! Don't get why this record gets so much hate - it's inventive, has some good tunes here and there and it manages to keep your attention, though it's over an hour long. 9/10, but 5/5

Nevermind by Nirvana
Jan 09 2024

Not a fan of grunge myself, but that's a mighty good album! Packed with strong songs without a single miss, 'Nevermind' is a cornerstone of 90's rock.

Dummy by Portishead
Jan 10 2024

Not the kind of music I would often listen to, but this album rewards a close and relaxed listen. Being tonally dark, 'Dummy' utilizes deep lyrics and cabaret vocal delivery and is full of jazzy samples, funky scratches and catchy melodic hooks. The highlight of the for me is Glory's Box, complete with cinematic strings and Hendrix-y guitar bends. A solid debut album and an interesting listen for electronica fans.

A definitive 60-s CLASSIC! The witty-liryc-ed britishmen The Kinks doing their social critique bit in form of a concept album. Great playing, great songwriting, top-notch arrangements, clever packaging. Great to the tip of its' toes. I would say no more.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Jan 12 2024

It's hard to underestimate this album's significance to 90's rock. But having in mind the length of the album (17 tracks), I find most of those 17 cuts quite same-y. I like the overall sound of the album, especially adore Flea's bass playing. The highlights for me are The Power Of Equality, Suck My Kiss, The Righteous and the Wicked, Under the Bridge and Sir Psycho Sexy.

Sound Affects by The Jam
Jan 14 2024

The mod revival's flagship band, The Jam, combined punk, powerpop and Beatle-esque harmonies into a sound that is reminiscent of R. Stevie Moore's cassette tapes. A bombastic album!

British Steel by Judas Priest
Jan 16 2024

This is Judas Priest's first solid metal album. A very enjoyable listen.

Stardust by Willie Nelson
Jan 20 2024

Willie Nelson's take on jazz oldies is very heartwarming and beautiful. Not trying to be a masterpiece makes it one.

Jan 24 2024

A work of sheer genius! Once I've listened to it, it's going to be one of my all-time favourite albums.

Os Mutantes by Os Mutantes
Jan 31 2024

It's a weird mix of Brazilian folklore, acid pop and musique concrète, but I love it! Sure going for Os Mutantes' later albums

Let's Get It On by Marvin Gaye
Feb 10 2024

A nice slice of Motown soul. Maybe not as memorable as the other records on the list, but worth spending an hour listening to.

Solid Air by John Martyn
Mar 27 2024

An elegant creation of John Martyn's artistry. While listening to the first track, I thought it was almost lifting from Van Morrison's Astral Weeks, but then it burst into a garden variety of styles (I mean, in a good way), but all with a sincere touch. I would highlight the fever acid trip that John Martyn turned I'd Rather Be The Devil into and a very beautiful, intimate composition May You Never. A highly enjoyable listen!

Heartbreaker by Ryan Adams
Jun 16 2024

Don't know anything about Ryan Adams's personal life, but most of the reviewers on this site write how shitty he is. But I'm here to listen to somewhat significant musical œuvres of modern age and rank them, not to ramble about how shitty as a person the artist is. This is a good country-rock album, and I had a great time listening to it.

Very great, I didn't think Captain-Beefheart-circa-1969-meets-new-wave sounds good!

Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band

Wanted to say a few words about this record. I HONESTLY think this is a masterpiece of modern art, full of Cap's unique poetics. The musicianship on "TMR" is on a very high level, and though the songwriting is edgy and rust-like, you can always appreciate the gritty guitar-playing or the ragged rhythmic webs, created by John French. The lyrics are abstract and all-wordplay, that annoys some, but an another point of appreciation for me. To truly come to 'digging' this album, you must cope with your negative emotions and listen to it more than one time. Free your mind and your ears will follow!
