The Hour Of Bewilderbeast
Badly Drawn BoyGreat cure for insomnia
Great cure for insomnia
The music was shite, it kept me up all night
It was so good And then it all fell down
Great cure for insomnia
Not as good as Top Gear
A good laugh I guess, why it's in the book who knows
Really strong album, bossa nova style done so well, Getz particularly kills it as well, great performance all round though
The music was shite, it kept me up all night
I don't think this is the worst album in the book; found its experimentation quite compelling. Wouldn't say I loved it but I respect it and thought that it was successful in what it set out to do
Should come with a warning sticker saying "only listenable if you are high"
Now I can confirm that I am not part of the jilted generation, thanks guys!
After a rough few days of albums it's always good to get an absolute classic like this. Every song here is brilliant
Not bad, got a couple solid bangers on it but not super consistent, clearly very influential on bands like nirvana
Every song's a banger, love it
A set of absolute bangers, immaculately performed and produced. Nile Rodgers' guitar and Bernard Edwards' bass particularly stand and there's enough variety in the style of songs to keep it interestjng
Really cool album, especially enjoyed the guitar playing style Though the first few tracks were particularly strong and maybe fell off a bit in the second half but a really good listen
It was so good And then it all fell down
Awesome album with a great fusion of classic rock sounds and Latin-inspired rhythms. Santana's guitar work is particularly outstanding and I love every track (with maybe the exception of the last one but that's more of a short outro than anything)
Very sad at times, a few really good songs on it, a couple that I'm less into as well but what a way to end your career
Epic funk rock Some songs have bad lyrics But Epic funk rock
First half very good, second half a bit rubbish 2.5/5
There's a reason they're not the alpha band or the sigma band
Good solid album, enjoyed the energy and guitar sound
Tons of bangers on here, second half not quite as strong as first but still pretty solid Great production and performance
Good new wave album, pretty strong songs throughout
Not bad, got a bit repetitive for me and maybe not something I would necessarily go back to but respect it for what it is and thought the overall sound was pretty good
Really enjoyed guitar playing and some of jazzier influences, some almost medieval vibes at times. Not a particular standout album for me but still a good, solid enjoyable listen
Sounds a bit like Oasis but 3 years earlier and better. Songs were good throughout, not a lot of variety but a strong, very enjoyable album
Don't quite get the hype tbh, thought it had a few good songs but not consistent and some of the lyrics I found cringey and didn't really resonate with me
Awesome songwriting with lyrics that really keep you engaged and make you think
Was ok, not much stood out but wasn't bad. Easily could have been halved in length
Very decent crooner music
Generic britpop
Cool use of sampling, found it a bit repetitive after a while but not a bad listen
Good stuff
Amazing jazz album, so well composed and performed, keeping you engaged the entire time, love how progressive the sound can get, you don't know where it's gonna take you
Absolute reggae classic with themes that are still relevant today
Enjoyed the experimentation and lo-fi feel. Not every track is great but there are plenty of gems to keep you entertained
Unique sound being a punky rock opera, loved it
Some of the best cover versions ever on here, breathing a completely different power into the songs. Sometimes maybe a bit much for one listen but lots of great stuff here, songs like "Hung My Head" and "Hurt" are amazing
Iconic Bowie record
Pretty good, not my favourite album I've heard from them though, less consistent but still got some bangers
Guess I'm a sucker for that cock rock 4.5/5
Great songs all-round, very influential sound as well
Pretty good but I would almost always prefer to listen to the original versions of these songs; also why is the global rating so crazy high
It's got some good moments but found it too long and overblown by the end
Powerful stuff with messages still very relevant today
Proof that an album can have the lyric "You call me sweet like I'm some kind of cheese" and still be a 5
Enjoyed the mix of singer-songwriter with the more freestyle jazz format
Some nice guitar playing but also thought it was incredibly boring and didn't really care for any of the songs
A few good songs with a Bowie-like influence, but also quite bloated and feels a bit too derivative at times
Started off well but got a bit samey after a while, not bad though
Plenty of classic stuff here, Fogerty is an awesome singer, songwriter and guitarist
Those negative reviews sum up the experience of listening to this album very well, it's just really bad psychedelic folk with ridiculous pretentious lyrics
Never stops being interesting and experimental, first half goes hard especially. Second half gets even more off the wall and all over the place still good tho
Awesome rock n roll, love how it expresses a comedown on side 2 from that rock lifestyle 4.5/5
Class
Classic Beatles; a real turning point in their discography and the first one where it's absolutely great throughout Production still sounds awesome today and loads of classics on it
Definitely influential for its time and worthy of being included on the list, very repetitive by the end though despite some tasty organ and guitar work
A couple bangers but most of it didn't really do anything for me, respect the more experimental side of it but it didn't result in many bangers
Awesome, loved the energy and thought the songwriting was fantastic all the way through
Not bad for a bunch of sellouts
Amazing concept album which really showcases the emotional ups and downs of having a life of crime whilst your intentions are good. Feels like you're watching a film when listening to it
Much more bearable than the other album they have on this list. Thought there were a few good tunes on this one even if it was way too long
Awesome sounds 4.5/5
Great songwriting and amazing production, it being a double album it does drag a bit at times due to its length but there are enough quality tunes to justify listening all the way through
You say idioteque, I say idiotique
There are tons of other Bowie albums in the.book.anf I get why people.would criticise the inclusion of this one but there are plenty of strong songs on it. Really enjoy it
Brilliant disco songs with great songwriting by Edwards and Rogers from Chic
Just amazing
Strong later-career album from the Boss, powerful as a response to 9/11. Bit long but good listen nonetheless
Cool funk-inspired stuff, very different to the other album I've had from him (Happy Sad). Lyrics are pretty weak but the music and overall performance is strong enough to make up for that
CLASSIC
Cool grooves and powerful messages, particularly on side one
Shows why he's van the man
Pretty good punk stuff, saxophone playing makes it quite unique
Found it a bit Inconsistent with a lot of the more dance-inspired stuff dragging. There are still some real standout moments like Damaged and the first track and respect the experimentation of the album, but didn't find it consistent enough
Appreciate the throwbacks to old jazz and soul stuff but most of the songs didn't do much for me. Also it's way too long
Are u dizzy blud
Young's introspective side at its peak
Electrifying
Had some good moments, liked when the Algerian folk sound was blended with funk especially but found the album dragged a bit by the end
Good energy and production, mid songs
That is some tasty brew
Some good tunes on here, classic blaxploitation soundtrack
The common red fox has led a good life in the wild for many years. However, in 2008, its existence was threatened by the introduction of a new pest species called the fleet foxes. These pests were hard to spot because anytime anybody saw one, they would say "wooaaahhhh" and the person who had sighted them would instantly feel bored and fall asleep. However, this story has a happy ending; after the invasion of 2008, the red fox has gone on to survive as the predominant species in the wild as the fleet foxes failed to find any more major success. Legend says the fleet foxes can still be heard every now and then, however, so unless you're looking to cure some insomnia, you better watch out.
The 4 main songs are amazing, the solo stuff adds some charm, works well in-between the longer prog epics
Got a lot of epic tunes
Was so bad I was sulking by the end of it
Very strong album and where they really started to define their sound
Made me want to become an outlaw
Sounds like it's come out of a looney tunes cartoon but in a good way
Good late period Dylan album, great production from Lanois as well. Some of the songs drag a bit, particularly that last one but a strong batch of tunes nonetheless
One of the classic punk albums for sure, straight bangers and messages that remain relevant today
This is one hard listen without hallucinogens at the ready
Where the stones really started to find their feet in terms of albums Really eclectic with great variety of sounds and hooks Couple weaker tunes (going home is 8 mins too long) and a few questionable lyrics but loads of bangers nonetheless
Started off ok but quickly lost interest The dated 90s production really does it no favours
Absolute classic from the Boss Every song hits hard and manages to convey emotions which almost anyone can relate to in some way
Sounds like a bunch of people were farting about for a couple of hours with tech and forgot to actually write anything decent
Southern rock at its peak Every track still sounds really fresh and goes hard, absolute rock classic
Epic progressive soul, he really gets the full power out of these songs
Some great psychedelic rock here with songs like the title track and Season of the Witch; however, half the album is nonsensical and pretentious, track 2 is particularly a stinker
Great debut especially since it was literally just some college project. Their sound is pretty close to fully formed and while I prefer a few of the albums that came after in terms of songwriting this is still really good
Classic concept album, overblown and epic in the best way possible with a great story
Fascinating record, love the format of these very short, but still catchy and impactful songs. Random but flows really well
Sounds like a bunch of people intentionally decided to make the most average album possible
Good old mildly hippie like folk rock where two major songwriters of the genre emerged
Guaranteed to transform you into a beer-drinking hell-raiser in 33 minutes
Quality bit of Beck
Great bluesy stuff and some classics on here, does get a bit repetitive near the end but performance is still great
Hard to deny the classic status Flows so well and never becomes boring or uninventive, peaking with that medley
Pop music that is technically well made, but weirdly annoying with no real edge to it Psychedelic stuff is particularly really boring and lacks much of a climax or any intensity to it
Great late-night country atmosphere
Great powerful messages throughout but the music itself lacked a lot of energy and power to match that, making it get boring quite quickly
Quality stuff, sets a consistent strong mood throughout Love that double bass sound as well
Cool and wacky funk album. Does get a bit repetitive at times with the choruses being constantly repeated and probably prefer the Funkadelic stuff over this but this is still a good listen
Guess it's got that velvet underground and 70s punk influence but I found it lacked the edge and experimentation compared to those earlier groups Production bit too clean for its own good as well and the songs just didn't really interest me
Pretty chill probably wouldn't go back to it but good arrangement and performance
Really enjoyable classic rock album. Definitely got a massive Stones influence a d arguably lacks some originality but the production and tunes are really strong and it just rocks
Really solid hard rock album with production that still sounds fresh today. Lacks some variety but consistent at what it does
Do respect the experimentation although I found it a bit patchy, started strong but there were a few too many slow ones near the end that got boring for me after a while. Also not really a fan of the vocals (bit whiny) Seems like it would grow on me after more listens
Everyone hates the overrepresentation of Costello on this list but I don't mind it too much as a big fan of him and the albums on this list from him This is one of my favourites from him: emotionally and lyrically powerful, the Attractions really rock out and there's a good amount of variety so each song has it's own unique character to it
A classic of 80s indie rock that still sounds fresh today (unlike a certain man's political views)
Started off recently but quickly lost interest, not horrible just a bit boring
Guess it was fairly influential, but didn't really enjoy it that much, was silly but not really in a funny way, more just seemed over the top but not in an appealing way like a Poundland version of Alice Cooper
Does what it says on the tin 4.5/5
Some incredibly composed stuff on here with darker themes for them, very interesting listen
A few decent tracks and sounds, did feel quite boring and samey though
Classic country style, great vocals and really solid all round
Good stuff yeh
One of their best, most creative and diverse albums, really rocks as well
Sounds amazing and flows so well as an album, bangers all the way through with a good and somewhat unique blend of styles
So awesome, absolutely love the sound of it and obviously really influential as well
Great double album with good amount of variety Also manages to be impressively pretty consistent despite feeling a bit long by the end
Really cemented their classic sound with this album with Andy summer's unique guitar sound and style as well as Copeland's awesome drumming and some of Sting's best songs Not as consistent all the way through but most is still very good and enjoyable
Some awesome grooves and guitar sounds on here, really enjoyed it
One of the defining prog rock albums, still sounds amazing today
