This is when songwriting actually meant something. Every instrument speaks to the subject matter of the song. Great stuff. Glad I finally listened to this.
Huge nuts. Nearly perfect live record. Back and forth yackin with an unconventional audience is unique even for today. Live duet with June rules. Only thing it’s missing is MORE.
At the end of the day, few things stick out about this record. 1. It’s REALLY difficult to listen to the entire album. 2. Nightrain is the only song that is better than just ok (and it’s actually much better than ok, it’s pretty damn good). 3. The huge hits on this record are insanely overrated. Poorly written rock songs for rock fans who were unable to climb beyond the lowest branch of the rock n roll tree. Axl’s Rose’s vocal range is impressive when you ignore the fact that he couldn’t use that talent in an impactful way in terms of song writing. One of the most overrated bands ever.
Not much to say about this one other than it’s essential for all fans of soul/r&b.
Aaahhhh yes, the pretentious man’s “this is what you SHOULD be listening to”. The Fall has really good material scattered throughout their catalog, yet none of it hits you hard enough to make you love them. Stand out tracks: Rebellious Jukebox, It’s the New Thing, Various Times.
This band does a lot, and not a lot, at the same time, and not in a charming way.
This album is absolutely beautiful. Listen to it while in a dark depression and it hits different.
This is good and her talent is clear but she hits her stride on back to black.
I really like the guitar work on this record. The back half is better than the front half. Stand outs: The One I Love, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Fireplace, Oddfellows Local 151 (actually an awesome closing track).
Is R.E.M. a radio friendly punk band or a punk friendly radio band? Either way, I don’t really care. When it’s on, I don’t dislike it but I never like it enough to go back to it.
This is a good album. And I could see liking it more upon second and third listens, which I’m planning on doing. Really liked “I’ve Had It”
This album fuckin rocks. Great riffs, great vocals, flute is on point.
Really good album. I like their later material better but this is still solid
I think this might be the best solo Beatle album. Probably is. Likely makes Harrison the best solo Beatle.
As a whole, this is their best work. Great album. Drain You is my favorite nirvana song!
More raw and aggressive than I was expecting. I bet Joey Ramone loved this
Oh my god, it’s still going
It’s not bad. Some really nice, catchy songs but they’re too long, as is this album. Way too fucking long.
Nothing special here. Didn’t hate it as much as I thought but it’s painfully insignificant. Waaaay too long for what this is. The male vocals are just kinda lame. If it were all female vocals, it’d be better. I don’t care about this or anything that sounds like this at all.
Excellent. Bonnie and Clyde holds this one back from being a 5 though. Otherwise, this is a hip hop classic
This is good stuff. I like that it sounds a tad wonky!
Another hip hop classic. Not their best material but still REALLY GOOD.
Nick Cave is a great vocalist, showman and songwriter but somehow it’s not enough on this one. I’d rather listen to Let Love In
Good stuff, just all tends to run together
One of the best albums of the entire decade.
Listened while dancing in an overgrown field
It’s ok but I thought folk was dead by ‘74
A classic. This album is great
Good r&b/pop. Listening to this is prompting me to listen to more of her material. Tastefully sexual. She has a great voice and only sometimes hampers it by trying too hard.
Good stuff but not quite his best
Excellent material. Album structure and pacing is slightly off but the ending is perfect
A lot of this ran together. It’s not bad but the songs are long (which is understandable if you’re dancing to it live and you don’t want the song to end)
A classic. Every song could’ve been a radio hit
An acquired taste. Phenomenal song writing and lyrically brilliant.
Some of these riffs are insanely heavy. This album boasts the cringiest moment in metal history though…..”WALK ON HOME, BOY”
Pantera rests in a grey area. Equal parts awesome, heavy, mean and douchy
Decent pop. Better than anything Gaga has done
It’s alright. Songs are too long
They were in the right place at the right time. Definitely some good playing from all members here but these songs haven’t aged well, they’re just ok.
This didn’t hold my attention and I found it to be the most boring Radiohead material I’ve heard
This is excellent stuff. It’s short and funny too
Excellent. Some of their best songwriting
It’s fine but nothing special
One of the greatest pop albums ever
Something’s a little off. Too long for what it is but it’s ok
Rocks but leaves something to be desired
It’s ok. Best songs are the singles.
Great album. Changes is very underrated.
Good but the second half just slowly drags
This is awesome. I was unfamiliar before this and they’ll be a regular listen now
Great album. Dolly’s mom was all over the board
Probably not their best but still pretty great
Pretty great. Another band with a bunch of great material
Just too much going on here. Not their best. Some cool songs, some cool parts but it’s not cohesive and kinda hard to listen to in succession. Feels longer than it is
Another total banger. Deep Purple should be mentioned alongside other legendary bands in GOAT conversations
Might’ve liked it more if I wasn’t doing yard work when I listened to it
Truly great. A top 5 American band
Excellent and not even his best stuff
Really has its moments. Still didn’t quite hook me
There’s some nice playing and some OK song writing on here but I hated listening to this. I loved this album when I was a teenager but it’s almost unbearable now. Battlestar scratchlactate is the best song because you don’t have to hear the vocalist. Boyd’s vocals SUUUUUUUUCK and so do his lyrics
The first two tracks feel slightly out of place because they’re just songs. These are all great, funky jams though. Love it
Pretty good. Probably a 3.5-3.75. Most tracks were great, especially the ones with female vocalists. His vocals are good too, kinda sounded like Wesley Willis in a way. A couple tracks that drag a bit, which holds it back a tad
Cooler than I thought it’d be. Some good song writing. Didn’t connect fully with it but I do want to listen to it some more.
Musically this was kinda cool but it’s pretty much ruined by the dumbass vocals
This was THE band for jock-adjacent dudes who were also friends with punks. I didn’t totally hate it. I liked a few songs and then a few annoyed the shit out of me.
The title track was better before Don told people it wasn’t specifically about heroin. All in all, there’s a couple of ok tracks but this is just kinda annoying.
There’s a certain rawness to the recording of this that I really like. It’s what I enjoy about live records. It’s what the band actually sounds like which is actually really taboo these days.
Pretty phenomenal! The weirdness of the second half was fuckin awesome!
Fun and interesting but they have better material
Seems like it could have redeeming qualities but I found it too annoying to finish
There’s a few great songs on here but also some goofy shit that didn’t age well.
Some of the truest vocals I’ve ever heard
Great stuff, one of the greatest bands ever
Some nice rockin soul. This version of summer breeze is something!
Hard but oddly motivational
Thought I’d be more taken by this than I was. Still very good though
Songs like Born Under a Bad Sign and Cole’s Corner get a 4 but there’s a few 2’s as well. More good than bad but probably a solid 3.5
One of the greatest double albums of all time
More magic from the late 60’s
Some really great and well written songs but this album drags
Not as bad as people make it out to be but I can take it or leave it.
