It's a little goofy, not gonna lie.
It's not as good as Madvillainy.
I like this one. Slow Burn sounds like a Sufjan Stevens song.
…actually, there’s a bunch of stinkers in the middle.
It's not as good as Madvillainy.
Never really got along on with Blur, but it’s probably still a 3/5. Seems like the only rating I’ve been giving out.
It's not as good as Madvillainy.
I always like Dire Straits more than I think I do.
But it's not as good as Madvillainy.
It’s funny, I was just reading a bunch about Layne Staley a few days ago. I used to listen to this one a lot, but it’s kinda showing its age. Or I am.
It's not as good as Madvillainy.
Yea, it's fine. Heard a lot of these songs hundreds of times so they don't really excite me any more.
It's not as good as Madvillainy.
I'm still pissed off at this guy for suing Dan Snaith. How punk.
It's not as good as Madvillainy.
I have no idea if this is good or bad. I have no frame of reference...
Actually, after reading all the 1 star reviews on here, I kinda appreciate it more.
Still, it's not as good as Madvillainy.
It’s like a 3 or a 4. 3 if I’m actually listening to it and 4 if I’m trying to impress people.
It's not as good as Madvillainy.
I like it, but I can hear the parts that inspired stuff I don't like and that's kinda weird.
It's not as good as Madvillainy.
I'm a little skeptical of my rating for this one.
It's not as good as Madvillainy.
It's not my favorite Neil Young, but any Neil Young is pretty great.
Some of the songs are catchy, but there's a good amount of cringe in here too. Enough that it makes me uncomfortable listening.
It's not as good as Madvillainy.
Wasn’t familiar with this one. I’m sure it’s probably very important, but it doesn’t stand out to me. I already like music like this, so I’ll just listen to that stuff instead. It's better.
Plus, the song Destroy Rock & Roll is obnoxious as hell...
It's not as good as Madvillainy.
Good example of something I’d rather listen to.
But it's not as good as Madvillainy.
I discovered this one recently and have listened to it a ton so it's an easy 5 star for me.
It's close, but it's not as good as Madvillainy.
Still holds up.
It's not as good as Madvillainy.
This is a new one to me. I'm surprised how little I hear REM referenced when discussing this band. So many of these songs sound like covers from Murmur. The lead singer even does a little Michael Stipe trill with his voice on some of the songs. I don't hate it though. It's better than some of the other overstated Britpop on here.
It's not as good as Madvillainy.
If I went to a record store and said “I would like to purchase one rock music please”, this is what they would hand me.
It's definitely not as good as Madvillainy.
EDIT - I'm going too easy on albums that piss me off. This album pisses me off. 1 star.
Someone else said it sounds like music from hotel bars, and that nails it. I don't mind it though, although two hours is waaaay too long.
It's not as good as Madvillainy.
I just always assumed I didn't like Ryan Adams' music. I still don't really, but it's better than I thought. In particular, when he does a Bob Dylan impression.
It's not as good as Madvillainy.
Honestly, this list is really getting to me. Another in a long line of "fine, but I've heard better".
It's not as good as Madvillainy.
I'm gonna delete my previous notes about how mad I am that there are multiple Verve albums on the list and no MF Doom.
Instead, I'll say that I just learned on Bittersweet Symphony that he's singing "I am here in my MOLD" over and over and that's super funny. I don't know how I never noticed it before.
Obviously, it's not as good as Madvillainy.
EDIT - I'm going too easy on albums that piss me off. This album pisses me off. 1 star.
It's real good and all, but apart from Pusherman, the songs don't really stick to me.
It's not as good as Madvillainy.
I thought I liked The Chemical Brothers more than I did this album. They’re from the UK, right? Maybe I’ll like the other 60 albums of theirs on this list better.
It’s not as good as Madvillainy.
Alright fine. This one makes sense to be on the list before Madvillainy. Even if enjoy Madvillainy more.
A lot of classics on here. I always felt like I liked the first two albums more, but it's hard to argue with Voodoo Child and All Along The Watchtower.
Is Madvillainy better? Another tough call. I'd rather listen to Madvillainy yes, but I don't think I can argue that it deserves to be on a list like this more than any of the Jimi Hendrix albums.
This one's pretty great. I discovered it a couple of years ago when going through the Rolling Stones 500 list.
Its not as good as Madvillainy but I still like it.
Not for me. I can see how you'd like it though if you don't like songs.
Its not as good as Madvillainy.
It's amazing that this and Bridge Over Troubled Water (the last album I on here I listened to) came out the same year. One of them sounds so much older...
It's not as good as Madvillainy.
This is my favorite Beatles album. Maybe cause I had the cd as a kid and listened to it a lot. It's a nice transition between the pop of the early stuff and the later experimental stuff.
But that last track makes me regret having this as my favorite. I'm just going to ignore it.
Yea, it's as good as Madvillainy
It's been a long time since I listened to this and it's better than I remember. I liked it before, but I was more into Viva Last Blues and kinda left this one behind. It shouldn't be a surprise to me that it's actually great.
Also, I need to stop reading other peoples reviews on here. It's infuriating to see what the people who trash this album love instead.
It's as good as Madvillainy.
They're Marvel-movie-mediocre.
I will say I did love the song 10AM Automatic off of one of their earlier albums...forgive me father, I have sinned.
It's not as good as Madvillainy.
I think I like this one better than Songs of Leonard Cohen, but maybe not as much as Songs of Love and Hate. I'm an edgelord, what can I say?
Yea, I mean ultimately I don't think it's as good as Madvillainy.
How do I say I don’t like this and not sound like ‘that’ guy…I guess ultimately I just found it a little boring? I’ve heard sound collages before. I’m not sure what this brought to the table that was new.
I still really like this.
I think this is the first album that I hadn't heard of on this list that I actually liked. Is it a coincidence that it's the it's the first UK produced album I've heard on this list done by an American? Am I bigoted? Who knows? Maybe Goldie actually blows me away next...
You know what? I do like it. It's way too long and there's way too much of this sort of thing on this list, but Goldie gets a thumbs up from me.
I like 60s psychedelia so this was enjoyable. I love the album cover too. My son's really big into Jelle's Marble Run.
I don't know...don't got much to say on this one. They're good songs.
I've heard Penguin Cafe Single before and I don't know from where. It's going to drive me nuts.
Can't wait until Paul Simon decides he likes Drill and does a whole album ripping off that.
Better than I expected. I could see listening to this again.
You know, I originally had this as my first 1 star, but the last couple of tracks on the album weren't that terrible. I want to save the 1 star rating for things I absolutely loathe.
Because I know there are a few of those on this list.
Yea, it's fine. I'm willing to accept that it was more important to people when it came out though.
Don’t look at Global reviews. Don’t look at Global reviews. It will only make you mad.
Took a bit to grow on me but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Will definitely be coming back to it.
Don't really got strong feelings on this one either.
Maybe this is more like a 3.5 I guess? It was pretty decent.
I remember downloading this off Napster in high school and I really enjoyed it. Turns out it was actually Whip-Smart and it was mislabeled. Consequently I kinda like that album better. Still enjoy this though.
I so want to give this 1 star...Paul Simon sucks so bad and I've had to listen to 3 of his boring albums now, with more to come.
Music for elevators.
EDIT - I'm going too easy on albums that piss me off. This album pisses me off. 1 star.
Sure, all the songs kinda sound the same, but I have a soft spot for them since they were in Back To The Future III.
I think I like Closer more, but still a really good album. I feel like there’s a backlash against Joy Division and I’m not sure why.
I'm torn. On one hand, I can appreciate the idea behind it and find the people who struggle with it funny. On the other, it's kinda boring. Like, I think the reason soundtracks are popular is because you can listen and associate the music you're hearing with the exciting and dramatic moments in the film. In this though....I don't know...maybe I'm just not imaginative enough? Or is the music not good enough to stir my imagination?
I mean I love the first 3 albums, but I guess if I had to pick one to be on here, sure it can be Sound of Silver.
There's a twinge of nostalgia listening to this, but it's kinda cringe.
The hits are undeniable hits, but with this listen, it really stood out to me how blatantly they're ripping off the Beatles. I mean I always knew it, but if you squint your ears on a some of these songs, you won't be able to tell the difference.
Lots of catchy songs; I underrated this when it came out. Still though, I’m not sure if it’s a “need to hear before you die” type of thing.
Always had an aversion to Rod Stewart, but I listened to Every Picture Tells a Story for the first time last year and didn't think it was too bad. This isn't as good as that though. Has it's moments, but kinda dull overall.
What do I do with this? I got no real frame of reference. I listened to the Oldies radio station growing up, but when it played stuff like this, my attention drifted. It all kinda sounded the same from the perspective of someone in the 90s, let alone today. I don't think I'd ever seek this out, but it doesn't get me angry, so 3 is probably a safe rating.
I listened to this A LOT in 2004 (probably tied with Madvillainy for number of listens) so I have lots of fond memories of it. There was also a live set I found on the CBC website from this time period that I loved as well. I remember the crowd was trying to get them to play Mr Grieves and they wouldn’t. They also did a version of Wear You Out that I listened to over and over.
Unfortunately, this is where they kinda peaked for me personally. I never got into the stuff that came afterwards as much as this.
Someone on here had the note that they hated I Wanna Be Adored but thankfully they loved the rest of the album and I'm the exact opposite. I've tried to like this band so many times, but the only thing that sticks for me is that first track.
We've all heard about guilty pleasures...well this is a guilty displeasure for me. I know it's good, but I just don't like it. It sounds like music for old people.
Hard to deny. I'm going to have to listen to Maggot Brain to see which one I like more.
Music cosplay. I really dislike it. The hand was hovering over the 1 star, but the music isn't really terrible. It's just the idea of it that makes me gag.
Nevermind. I'm going too easy on these albums. I hate this.
A glowing ray of light after having to endure The Darkness (both literally and metaphorically).
Their first album comes up a little short of For Your Pleasure to me, but it's still pretty great.
It's pretty great. Maybe I don't revisit it as much as some of my other 5 stars, but it's sooo long.
I'm not sure this is standing up to the test of time. It sounds kinda dated to me now. I was a fan of Trip Hop, but if I'm being honest, Portishead didn't hit with me as much as something like Massive Attack. I listened to Sour Times a lot, but that was about it.
Nine Inch Nails only has one album on the list and Prodigy has two. I know you could spend a lifetime pointing out problems with this list, so you'll have to excuse me. I don't even know if Nine Inch Nails deserves two albums on the list, but they certainly deserve it more than The Prodigy.
The Prodigy deserve it more than The Verve.
This album is fine.
