1001 Albums Summary

Quite incredible how old this album is and that TRS are still recording and touring.

This album was mostly unfamiliar to me, apart from Seven Seas of Rhye, which I absolutely loved as an 10, 11-year old. It brings strong memories of listening to the Queen Greatest Hits while playing a fantasy role player book called City of Thieves. The entire album seems to fit that genre for me.

Sounds so contemporary!

Social commentary.

I remember this taking the world by storm back in the late 90s but somehow it never connected at that time. Now I see the similarity with Calexico, right up my street - not to mention it's español.

Very much reminded me of Paul Simon and then it turned out that’s because they featured on an album from when I was small. Or perhaps even before that. Good facts.

Odd, proggy, chaotic - a forerunner of GOAT? My first introduction to this band was via The Simpsons and it’s an association that won’t budge.

I want to like it but it's so very country.

Musically I like this although there’s some questionable subject matter that distracts. ‘Sweet Emotion’ is beautiful.

Exactly the sort of grinding repetitive synth noise that I love. Happy with this find. Although I was not quite prepared for the trauma of Frankie Teardrop. Lovely coincidence that the song and album features on the Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere which I watched later in the day on a flight.

A long and varied album. I feel like if it was edited down it would be tighter and more impactful.
