Always loved this album, this time was no different.
Love the Eastwood song, but beyond that it's not my genre. Definitely interesting, but not the kind of music I gravitate towards. Glad I experienced it, though!
Some absolute HITS, and some... that did not hit. Sting's dynamic voice is always a win for me, though. Maybe it's an acquired taste, but if so, I've certainly acquired it.
Listened to most of it, but it's just not me genre, unfortunately.
This was a great listen, even with the language barrier. I was pleasantly surprised and found more than a few jams that were catchy and enjoyable. Which was particularly impressive, since I do not consider myself a fan of blues, usually, but I liked their spin on it.
There were parts I loved and parts that hurt my ears. All in all, it was an experience, which I think is what the group was going for.
Fun, but good GOD it didn't need to be that long.
Certainly an experience, this one. The last song had me FLOORED though, and made me bump it from a 3 to a 4.
Capital L Love this album. There's not a single "skip" song on it for me.
Wow, okay. This was fantastic. Just listened to In Rainbows and thought that was my favorite from Radiohead, but this made me think again.
Highlights were Fake Plastic Trees, (Nice Dream), Street Spirit (Fade Out), Sulk, Bulletproof... I wish I was.
And the rest were all great listens as well. Another solid 5 from Radiohead for me!
This album felt like it really should've been from the 70s, which hey, that's a win for me. Did most of the songs sound the same? Yes. But did I LIKE the way the way they all sounded? Also yes. It was a more mediocre band that was reminiscent of The Beatles, and I'm not complaining. 3.5 stars.
The first song is SO iconic, and the rest were lovely. When you love the organ as much as I do, having it be the star in every track is the opposite of a problem.
Poetic lyrics, beautiful voice, some important themes and messages in there, but it was hard to get into the rhythm of it. Love Joni Mitchell, but this was a more difficult album to get into for me.
Interesting, for sure. I enjoyed the worldly tracks and inspiration here, and appreciate the work that went into producing the album, but some songs were difficult to get through foe me. I like the last few tracks the most, I think.
Fantastic. Cash's voice is so magnetic and emotional. The choices for covers and the collaborations on this album were ambitious, and it lived up to the hype.
Took me a few songs to get into this style, but I enjoyed it in the end! Beautiful, poetic lyrics and chill melodies. 3.75 stars.
Not really my thing. Like a bluesy, discount Joan Jett with a voice that grates on me a bit.
Not the biggest fan of the slam poetry vocals. Some of the instrumentals were up my alley, but others sounded like when I was learning guitar for the first time and trying out less than stellar chord progressions.
This was not for me. I've seen Thundercat live and remembered it being funky and surprising, but this reminded me of elevator musak. The lyrics also really had nothing to say, and instead of being goofy and entertaining when they were meant to be funny, they either fell flat or put a bad taste in my mouth. Some of the baselines were interesting, but not enough to carry the album. 1.8 stars.
Nice background music. Fave was definitely the title song, Sound of Silver.
Some of it was entertaining, some was a bit too ~experimental~. Sounded like an amateur noodling in the studio for a half hour. The saxophone sounding like someone attempting to murder a goose did give me a good chuckle, though. 2.5 stars
I can definitely see how this influenced many later electronic artists. It was fun, chill, a bit repetitive (fun fun fun on the Autobahn), but overall it was pleasant and groundbreaking for coming out in the 70s.
Never heard this album or band before, but it was lovely <3 vocals and instrumentals were great and I loved the experimental elements. 4.75
A quintessential blues album that I very much see the value in, but I am not the biggest blues fan myself, unfortunately. Still though, wonderful voice and some good melodies.
Great British punk, and a fun listen overall. My neck hurts from head bobbing so much.
Quintessential 80s synth pop album, and its good fun to listen to. Several of the hits have been stuck in my head intermittently throughout the day, and... honestly, I'm not mad about it.
Solid album from U2, which was a staple in my house growing up. Therefore, nostalgia may have created a bit of a bias, but I loved it!
Chill coffee shop vibes. I enjoyed it and had a nice, mellow morning.
The instrumentals were totally up my alley, but I could NOT get with this vocalist. 2.25 stars.
Iconic for a reason, but still not a fan of the random bits of audio feedback that grate on the ears. Besides that, solid album! 3.75 stars.
Definitely YEARS ahead of its time. It's innovative, outlandish, satirical, fun, unsettling, trippy, catchy... Like another person in the comments said, I wouldn't listen to it every day, but there's no doubt this album is important to music as a whole.
Solid early hip-hop album. Definitely some prevalent themes explored, too. And I loved the back-and-forth vocals on a few of the tracks. Wake Up was a stand out song for me. And while this normally isn't my preferred genre, I enjoyed it! 3.5 stars.
Decent background music with some interesting compositions. Standout song for me was Radio Cure. 2.75 stars for the whole album, though.
A very 3 star album for me. Didn't dislike anything, but didnt love anything specific.
Just a great listen. Multiple songs added to my writing/study playlist. 4.5 stars.
Not my usual cup of tea, but it was enjoyable. The highlight song was definitely Move. Solid 3 stars.
This had me folding my laundry so hard.
Good beat to chill and study to ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Solid alternative rock album, surprised I'd never listened to Sonic Youth before!
Another commenter got it right on the money with "Blackstar but for depressed cowboys." And I am SO into it. Boy howdy, call me a depressed cowboy the way this album hit. Also gives me mix of Johnny Cash and Nick Cave vibes, which are both just gorgeous in terms of dynamic and iconic vocals. Will be listening again for sure.
A bit of yeehaw was needed today. Brought back fond memories of when I was in Nashville, and just makes me want to go back. This is the type of country I adore, and with so many legends on the project, it's just brilliant. I also enjoyed the chit chat, it felt intimate, like being in the studio with all these folks. Only reason it's not a 5 is because it was just a tad too long, but the 2 hours actually went by faster than I thought they would. It didn't really grow tiresome :)
I love any band from the '60s that starts with "the." The animals, the monkees, the Beatles, the band, the kinks, all of 'em are great, and this one's no exception.
Punk and reggae was not a mix I was expecting, especially from the 70s, but I didn't hate it. In fact, there were many things I really liked about it! The bass line on almost all the tracks was great (but especially on the cover of Heard it Through the Grapevine, which was a banger) and the overall rhythm of every song was interesting and catchy. The vocals were hit or miss for me, but they fit well with the genre. 3.5 stars!
Cool, groovy, smooth and chill for a Friday morning. 3+3 is a solid 3.
Reminded me of Cage the Elephant, which is always a plus. Standouts were Weather with You, It's Only Natural, and Four Seasons in One Day (which got added to my playlist).
