Creative, strings, want to listen it more
3, had it on my other one.
Random alt-rock record, with some cool textures and a couple of good songs
De estilo un tanto parecido a Coldplay. Canciones pop con un cierto toque melancólico. Buena voz y buena instrumentación. No me ha enganchado
Fantastic album, I was very hesitant at first after turning up my volume during the first song to hear it better only to have my ears blasted by those trumpets but The Bones of You was such a great song that I forgave the first song. After that, the songs really just keep getting better and it's like each song feels like a different genre, and I was surprised that I liked most of the songs that had that country vibe to them. Definitely gonna add this to the rotation.
You can always count on this list to throw in a lesser known band from the UK. Feels like every week we get at least one or two. This album was billed as Pink Floyd meets Coldplay. I like both of those bands better. I did enjoy Mirrorball and Grounds for Divorce but the rest were un memorable. The album overall was nice to listen to in the background but I’m getting a little bummed at how many of these albums we need to listen to before we die just end up as background music. Album art reminds me of a more sophisticated cave drawing.
I know that I would hate most artists/bands if I met them, but I would fucking hate these guys if I ever met them. This is Coldplay, just gayer. If Radiohead did soft rock, this would be it. It comes off as pretentious and fake. This is one of those bands that talks about drinking and fighting, but consists of sober pacifists. Wilco has a song or two on each album that I skip. This album is all of those songs.
This is very cold play esque. Mirrorball is a good, chill tune.
Good
Nice sounds. Seal-like.
Slight Coldplay vibe
Some really incredible songs, but overall album wasn’t a cohesive listen
Ehh, okay I guess
I really enjoyed this album! Absolute bangers.
Really artsy, sweeping, and dramatic. Good music, all over the place in many different styles. Kind of takes away from the song's "albumness" though. i.e. had they chosen a consistent style to REALLY hammer home, could have been nuts. Instead we're left with an appetizer plate of a bunch of really great starts, but nothing complete
I was puzzled at first by this selection (pun intended), but then I read that it's a British band. Never heard of these blokes, but they're okay I guess. Nothing less than decent, but not many tracks that jump above decent either. The distorted guitar sound near the end of "Audience with the Pope" stood out to me. And "Lullaby" was nice, almost sounded like a different band. Overall this comes off like a generic amalgam of countless other indie/alternative bands. Music for commercials, or as the Brits would say, adverts. I wish I had a stronger opinion on this, but it was kind of in one ear and out the other. Extremely okay music. Favorite tracks: Lullaby, One Day Like This, Bones of You. Album art: As much as I love Rubik's cubes, this cover doesn't do it for me. Maybe it's too monochromatic. Maybe the drawing is just sloppy. Maybe it's Maybelline. Sorry, bad joke. I'm pretty bored listening to this. 3/5
A bit more U2 influence than I’m into but otherwise good
Meh
I like the music more than the lyrics. He sounds like the whiniest version of Thom York on OK Computer. Good soundtrack to a grey day - I enjoy the scale. Orchestral elements. Drums that sound like they were recorded in a big empty room. Unfortunately it gets a little droney and monotonous... which starts to feel like self importance as the album progresses. And homie don't play that. I like Grounds For Divorce. Most of the other songs kind of just run into each other.
high 3 / low 4
Elbow have an interesting sound, not quite what I was expecting. I know I've heard the odd track here or there, but I don't really remember them at all. The instrumentation is pretty cool and the layered vocals add another element. Grounds for Divorce is my favourite track so far.
Enjoyable. Grounds for Divorce is stellar and the rest of the album has good layers and atmosphere.
Liked this pretty well. Listened to a few other albums and liked those too!
Good album. A little reminiscent of Coldplay or Radiohead - which is not a positive. But some good songs and great instrumentation.
Not really my thing.
Another British one I’d never heard of before. (That’s a recurring theme of this book) it’s pretty enjoyable in the moment but not something that screams to me or will likely get replay.
Was not aware of this band so wasn't sure what to expect, but very pleasantly surprised.
This was an awesome intro to elbow. I will be looking at more of their stuff because I love their style. The fix is brilliant as is grounds for divorce
It’s okay. Chamber pop. Maybe on another day it would hit me. Today isn’t that day.
pretty neat
fraquissimo, entediante
small dick energy
3.5 - I never knew the band before this. There's a lot to like here. Radiohead meets james bond meets peter gabriel. Favourite tunes: Starlings, Grounds for divorce, An audience with the pope, The fix, One day like this
Average at best
Dramatic, Coldplay-esque which makes sense given the time period
Opzich wel fijn om naar te luisteren maar niet mijn smaak qua rock
Not heard this before. Largely comes off as Radiohead-lite to me with flashes of Blur here and there. Got to respect the ambition though. Love it when the British don't hold back their accents while singing. Perhaps my favorite track is "The loneliness of a Tower crane driver."
Another band I heard of, but never listened to. Honestly musically they are good, some interesting progressions/melodies. However, thematically it completely falls flat for me. Most it sounds too "happy" for a sour old bastard like me, and the lyrics are seemingly one-dimensional in their focus on relationship woes. Also is very "produced" sounding and I like a little bit of rough edges, or at least something a little off. I can respect it, but not for me.
Good british alternative rock. Nothing amazing or revolutionary but a solid album nontheless.
Lovely textures. Was very much the kind of thing I wanted to hear in 2008! Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver still stands out as a powerful song.
I had only ever heard one song from Elbow before but I had no idea who they were. But I really liked this album. Creative use of instruments to create a different rock sound
- ok this is nice - everything everything but better songwriting maybe? - "grounds for divorce" and "audience with the pope" are a bit too late 00s alt radio rock - lots of cool sounds but idk how much i LOVE it - yeah second half zzz still cool sounds tho
Nice , couple of great tracks, grounds for divorce is my favourite on it. Stars off well but a big lull in the middle before ending well
Really enjoyed this
cool
Yay I am soooo deep ... Not
Different style. I liked it.
Digging this. Chill but euphoric at times.
Not bad. Kind of boring, songs sounds the same in a repetitive way. Single is by far the best track
Decent album, good songs here and there but not sure if it is enough to make me want to buy
Kind of reminds me of Sting, Kind of reminds me of Mumford and sons. Will have to listen again to pick my favorite track.
Not familiar with the artist but the album was okay.
Chill. Reminds me of a lesser Coldplay
I really liked this album. I've never heard of the group Elbow before. It seemed like a toned down indie rock album.
I loved this album. Listed to it for another whole day
Its ok. Nothing new to me.
Like if Radiohead and Coldplay had a failson.
I liked it a lot. Like a lot. I will relisten. Cool sounds, made me feel like I was in a movie. Don't know why it's on the list but I'm happy I found it. 7/8, fav song, (don't know).
I think Grounds for Divorce and One Day Like This made a splash upon release with synchs. Elbow are not a favorite.
Alternative fuzzy sound
One of my favorite albums that I’ve been listening to forever. Grounds for Divorce is one of my favorite tracks. Discovered from Left for Dead 2, I believe.
Ive listend to this one before. Grounds for divorce is great!
Liked the start, but it became a weirdly more British Coldplay and black keys. Not my favorite
Erilainen versio Coldpalystä. Ei jatkoon.
really cool vibes already, raspy main vocals and kind of ethereal indie rock feel. I LOVE THIS ALBUM BASED ON THE FIRST SONG. cool orchestral feeling. oooooo I love it!!! i don't think it objectively deserves more than a 3 so i'll give it that but i love her :,)
4. raita oli hyvä. Muutoin muistutti Coldplayn välttävän tason biisejä
Not bad
2008. Key Songs: Mirrorball, Grounds for Divorce, One Day Like This
Pleasantly surprised. It had relaxing sounds while not sounding boring, very good.
It’s me Kanye West. I rate this album a 2/10 due to the lack of elbows. Yeezus better
