Saint EtienneThis album was ok. Do I think that it is one of the 1001 albums that I must listen to before I died? No. It was an ok album.
This album was ok. Do I think that it is one of the 1001 albums that I must listen to before I died? No. It was an ok album.
This album was more than just appealing for its album cover. The songs on this album were unique and caught my ear. I've never heard of this group or the album or any songs on it. I would listen to this album again.
I enjoyed this album as background music. Too be honest this album could have been in a different language and I wouldn't have noticed. It does have a bizarre sound that I found amusing,
Santana is undoubtedly a great guitar player. This album has black magic woman and oye como va. Overall the album isn't that great but santana needs a mention on this list
I was really surprised by how much I liked this album. I also noticed the song Taj Mahal was very close to Da ya think I'm sexy by Rod Stewart. As it turns out Rod Stewart lost a copyright infringement lawsuit over the similarities.
Typically, I don't care for live albums. The audience noise doesn't add much to the listening experience; however, a live performance does provide insight into the quality of the artist, stripping away the façade of studio production editing. That being said, the songs on this albums sound similar to Jerry Lee Lewis' greatest hits that were recorded in the studio versions, showcasing the skills of a great musician.
A frustrated group makes a grunge album. That being said would listen to a couple songs again.
This album contains some of CCRs greatest hits. The album starts off strong with Ramble Tamble, which has a green grass and high tide guitar sound. The album does not tie the songs together. I can't seem to detect a theme to the album. I really liked this album.
Very eerie album. The singers voice is distinct and recording values clear. Fairly unnoteworthy (irony).
solo artist. great mix of vocals, synths, drums. Really like the songs While you see a chance, arc of a diver, spanish dancer. Created in the artist's home.
I'm not the biggest fan of Rod Stewart. This album features Maggie May, classic. At times this album almost has a folk sound (for lack of more descriptive terms).
This was probably a celebrated album in the 1970's. The sitar's sound was very unique to the sounds of the day. The album featured a few covers of recently popularized songs. The recording quality is good. Would I pay money to own this album? No.
very soothing album. I would classify the genre as something between soul and jazz. This is not something I would typically listen to, but enjoyed it.
I like the sounds of this albums, between the band and the smooth vocals to the piano and chimes. At the heart of this album you have chicago and casimir pulaski day. Both songs deal with care for fellow human beings. The one negative to Sufjan Stevens is the heavy religious undertones, specifically for christianity.
I would classify this album as blues rock. The album starts off strong with gasoline alley. Cut Across Shorty has great blues guitar solos. Otherwise filled with Rod Stewart's raspy voice, which I don't care for. I have a feeling this album won't be too memorable on this list.
incorporates the violin in the album. A couple of memorable songs Jesus, ect. Other than that pretty nondescript.
average reggae album.
I was really surprised by how much I liked this album. I also noticed the song Taj Mahal was very close to Da ya think I'm sexy by Rod Stewart. As it turns out Rod Stewart lost a copyright infringement lawsuit over the similarities.
Loved this album. I have never heard any of these songs before. Had a great band and vocals. I would buy this album.
Heavy Drums and heavy guitars put together with top production quality. Has many pop reference and is a tribute to Cliff Burton. It's definitely a change of pace for this list. Although technically interesting many of the songs blend together.
I enjoyed this album as background music. Too be honest this album could have been in a different language and I wouldn't have noticed. It does have a bizarre sound that I found amusing,
I really liked this album. I've never heard of the group Elbow before. It seemed like a toned down indie rock album.
classic talking heads sounds. I didn't recognize any of the songs on this album. May even be able to dance some of these tunes.
Not too band. Includes the cardigans hit lovefool. Also has a interesting cover of iron man. Has the classical cardigans sound
Maybe this album seemed revolutionary for 1994. Maybe the writer of 1001 albums was just sentimental about W-Tang Clan. Ultimately seemed like a very average rap album.
ok folk album. not sure why this is on the list.
No well known songs by the kinks. Had some bizzare songs like two sisters, but nothing that caught my ear.
This album was more than just appealing for its album cover. The songs on this album were unique and caught my ear. I've never heard of this group or the album or any songs on it. I would listen to this album again.
This was a really fun album to listen to. There were some songs that I had heard before. The new wave sound took me back to playing grand theft auto vice city. This was praised as being one of the first new wave albums.
I didn't know any of the songs on this album. I though the first two songs were kinda interesting. I do like the sound of Morrisey's voice.
This album has one great dire straits song. Ultimately the album swung wildly between different genres of songs. At the time Dire Straits was still finding their footing.
I really liked the song desire lines, I will say that it gets boring near the end. The rest of the album is ok.
This is industrial rock, which is ok in my book; however every song sounded the same.
This album features great horn pieces with that distinct sound of the band. This band is best known for come on Eileen.
Willie sings a few pop standards. His distinct vocals and guitar playing, created his take on some songs. Unfortunately, this isn't very original.
Average Bee Gee album. Does include some songs that are known. This album may have brought them onto the world stage, but was not part of their disco era releases that they are most well known for.
This album started off strong with Jackie. There were some other songs that were very entertaining. Scott Walker has a very pop crooner sound. The band is a welcome change in this list. The last few songs kind of blended together and some songs were covers. Making this album only average.
Some interesting songs on this album, including who do you love. Other than that many songs blended together.
This album was a little slow for me. This just is grateful dead style. I did like friend of the devil and ripple.
I have heard other songs by this group before. I liked the songs on this album. That being said, for the time this was probably a great album. Now this kind of blends in.
What a strange album. I love Joni Mitchell's voice. This album is an album that doesn't know it's own genre. I didn't know a single song, but would listen again.
I like this album. The live aspect wasn't too intrusive. Contained some of Nirvanas best hits.
Didn't really know any of the songs on this album and nothing really stuck out. Classic REM sound. probably could be better albums for this list.
Sounded like their influences (Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell). You will truely believe why they are called the british Jefferson Airplane. Other than that, the album isn't very interesting.
Very much enjoyed this album. Love the 80's rock. This was softer than the Anthrax album. Included great hits like run for the hills and children of the damned.
This album was a pretty interesting folk album. Day is gone has a stairway to heaven sound to it. I also liked the song fruit tree.
I enjoyed listening to this album. I liked someone great, all my friends, and New York I love you but you're bringing me down.
I liked this album. It started off strong with Lively up Yourself and No woman no cry. Probably considered to be a great album
this album blended together. It was so boring, that I skipped a few songs.
Pretty good Joni Mitchell album. Includes help me.
Great album! Featuring White Rabbit and Somebody to love.
Very chill album. That being said there are a few songs that I like. Many song just blended together and a time became boring. Has the song Them Changes on here.
Good album of 60's rock/soul. That being said there may be later artists that I enjoy more of this style.
Didn't know a single song on this album. I like many of the tunes though. Would listen again!
This album was ok. Do I think that it is one of the 1001 albums that I must listen to before I died? No. It was an ok album.
They played at Cornell when I was an undergrad. Very interesting albums with three big songs. Would listen again.
This album was interesting. It featured Janis Joplin with a raspy voice. Had two different songs that I recognized. Other than that she went from this into her solo artist career. Probably a good move.
ok album. Just not one of the top 1001 albums that I needed to listen to before I died.
I've never heard this album before or any songs on it. pretty good punk rock album.
this album has many of the great songs from the Beatles. It is fit together in a continuous way. Really a great album to own.
I didn't write the review immediately after listening to the album. I think it was a punk album that include is violin. It was pretty good. Obviously not too memorable.
Pretty good electronica album, includes the hit personal Jesus.
Has many of Elton John's Greats! Definitely a 5.
Is this a stand out R&B album?
80's new wave sound. I'm didn't really know any of the songs. Was this one of the top albums to listen to before I die?
Strange album. I kinda liked it but only out of amusement. Does it belong on this list?
Back when you could tell what Ozzy was saying. Iron man is great. Not sure the entire album is a great though.
I can no stress this enough...this album is one of the greats. Just a joy to listen to hits that represent an era of rock. This is why this collection of albums was written.
Was pretty mellow. Should be on this list???
Contains School's Out. Really there are some west side story rehashes. that is all.
listened to the album. Was not memorable.
This has the big ah-ha hits. Life changing? no.
did not enjoy this album
the king of cool jazz. This is a very important album to the genre of jazz.
Has some interesting sounds, but wasn't life changing.
pleasant album of country or western. Not really sure which.
This album does have some of the Beastie Boys greatest hits. There sound is very unique and mix genres of rap, punk, rock, and blues. Sometimes incorporating classical string instruments. Would I want to own this full album? Probably not.
I was glad when this album was over. Not that the music was bad, but it was so much saxophone.
this was an ok album. has come on eileen. spotify doesn't seem to have all the songs. makes it hard to rate.
Though many kids talked about this album due to it's shock value. They didn't consider how shock value becomes irrelevant as something more shocking comes out. This album probably will not stand this test of time.
This album has many hit songs from the king of pop. What a fun album to listen to.
blonde is a very talented song writer. This album has heart of glass. Other than that, a very average album.
Santana is undoubtedly a great guitar player. This album has black magic woman and oye como va. Overall the album isn't that great but santana needs a mention on this list
Has some of Bon Jovi's greatest hits on one album. The album has a theme of lack of love.
I like the doors. This is the album that features riders on the storm, LA women, and love her madly. That being said I do prefer the doors album to this one.
Interesting album. Clear rap lyrics. Was this an influential album? otherwise can't understand why is this is on this list. It does have the humpty dance on here.
I didn't like this album as much as kind of blue. Miles Davis is still one of the best when it comes to trumpet and cool jazz.
This was a great album. Has many of the byrds greatest hits.
ok album. Good for a change of pace.
Has a few of this group's great songs, but in total album was only ok
This album was a change of pace. Beautiful instrumentation.
I hadn't really listened to much George Michael music before this album. I like it. Upbeat, Smooth voice and suggestive lyrics are a winning combination.
This is a very long album. I liked the song poppa was a rodeo. There are many outrageous lyrics that require you to pay close attention. Other than that probably pretty average for this list.
Has the song there she goes. This is a very fun album.
had movin' on up. other interesting songs. does primal scream really need another album on this list?
One of my favorite albums. Great songs with overarching theme.
I liked this album. It has I'm only happy when it rains.
ok album. does this need to be on this list?
good country album. by the end I was exhausted of the hearing the banjo.
I'm not sure why this album is on this listen. This album mixed a lot of different sounds together.
Leonard Cohen is obviouslly an overlooked song writer. I just don't know if this is the album that needs to be on this list.
This album is even better than I remember it. Though that being said metallica may have better albums.
I really enjoyed this album. I'm not even sure if I have ever heard of the stooges before.
This album was also surprisingly good. This list is killing it right now. I just don't know if I can give it a 4 though.
a change of pace. not really sure why this is on this list
the album was good quality, just not sure why this particular kinks album. It was long.
Cool sounding album. The sound effects were probably before its time. I feel like movies have used these songs in there sound track.
Was a long monkeys album. Had a few of their greats on here. Are there better monkey's albums to put on this list?
I liked this Kanye West west album. It featured many rappers that went on to become successful.
Change of pace. Not really sure why this is on this list.
King of Rock has to have a spot on this list. This album contained many of his greatest hits.
Great album. Maybe I'm just a sucker for 1980's rock. Contains such great hits as Jump, Panama, and Hot For Teacher.
I've never heard of this group or the album. It has the psychedelic rock sound. Apparently one of the first bands to use that term.
Of course miles davis albums should be on this list.
there may better steely dan albums to put on this list. Does have Rikki don't lose that number.
Interesting rap album including great songs like the light. Great culture references that cement this album in rap history.
Has soundtrack like music. The album was adopted by the rave scene in England. Though it was revolutionary in the way the artist sampled sound effects from many tv shows, is it really necessary for this list?
A string of great motifs. Maybe one of the best jazz albums made.
A great rap album, with many noteable hits including izzo, Girls, Girls, Girls. Would listen to again.
I have never heard of this band or any of the songs on this album. That being said enjoyed the smooth vocals and interesting lyrics.
Not sure if this is a nostalgia rating or if this is really one of the best rap albums I have ever heard, but I am going to give this a high rating. Great beats in east coast rap.
Good big band jazz.
I enjoyed this album. Not sure if this should be on this list though.
Has all of Outkast's greatest hits. Has almost a vaudevillian theme to it. May not be the best way to describe.
a narrated rock album. Almost like the doors with a modern sound. This was divergent from Slint's punk rock origins.
a fun country album.
A narrated big band sound with a dark aura.
great album containing some of my favorite Beatles songs that don't make it on to their top hit albums. The album itself doesn't really have a running theme other than the usual overarching Beatles themes.
great beats and smooth rhymes. Definitely has racial and political underpinnings. One of the best rap albums?
BB King is a great blues singer and guitarist. This is just a showcase of his work. His best album? No idea.
That late 2000's were a pit for music. This is representative some of the better released. Needed to be on this list?
classic 80's new wave sound. The lyrics of the song are definitely polarizing and fun.
A great rap album from the early 90s.
ok electronic album. A must listen to?
Album contains a couple of Janet Jackson's top hits. The album contains many songs but many are forgettable. That being said many songs are linked to the previous song.
Souixsie Souixe has a very strong set of vocals. The album contains Hong Kong Garden which is has unique guitar riffs.

A much darker album than the others. Definitely worth a listen.
A blues band with heavy rock influences. The sound is good but many songs on the album blend together.
good electronic album. Would definitely listen again.
This album is part of Frank Zappa's continuous critique of society. I've heard the album before but would like to add it to my collection.
an entertaining album with a folk sound. Would listen again.
This is a band that hasn't quite determined their sound. Could be Pop or rock or, what I'm going to call, Australian country.
I know that this album represents a subset of metal. I enjoyed listening to this while I was lifting. I wouldn't tend to listen to this to this otherwise.
I've never heard of pavement before. This album was a good indie rock album, but does it need to be on this list? Did this group usher in the generation of indie rock albums on the late 90s and early 2000s?
I really enjoyed listening to this album. Including the strange brew, sunshine of your love, tales of brave ulysses. No overall theme, but contains good lyrics and great guitar playing.
A very amusing album. The quality of the singer isn't anything special. This album is for the lyrics. Instrumentation is pretty good.
The music wasn't bad. Is there a reason why this album needs to be on this list?
Talented singer. Very much like the album.
Jam band with great sound.
Pretty good folk rock album. Not sure if this would become a favorite. Definitely enjoyed California Stars.
I really enjoyed this album. Modern Jazz with a hip beat.
I am not a U2 fan boy. I will admit that some of there songs are catchy. I have always liked mysterious ways. That being said some of these songs blend together with the "U2 sound".
I think I could go my entire life without listening to this album. Music quality wasn't bad, many songs blended together.
This group will forever be associated with the late nineties and early 2000's
Not a big fan of spirituality, in general, not the music group. I did like this album. Songs flowed together and the first song on the album has an interesting cannon.
I really like this album. Maybe just as an 80's throw back.
I like Foo fighters, but there may be better albums to put on this list.
entertaining album. The lyrics to the songs are bizarre. Short and not so sweet.
Nothing wrong with album. Just want to say that creators of this list love Van Morrison. Is it really necessary to have so many of his albums on this list?
Has some of the sam cooke greatest hits. Chain Gang, Cupid, and more
Not a bad album. Does it need to be on this list?
The flaming lips have gotten a couple albums on this list. They always have interesting orchestration. But do they need to be on the list?
Interesting theme to the album. Does this really need to be on this list?
I've never heard of Bert Jansch, but this was a pretty good folk album.
good punk rock album. would listen again.
great collection of rolling stones songs. would listen again.
a daring album by genesis. I liked it. Maybe a little too uppity for a rock album.
album started off strong but dies off. what is up with wasted time and the last resort? These songs were completely out of character with the rest of the album.
free expression not covered up other instruments or production values. Just a man and an acoustic guitar.
organ driven blues. Some themes seem to be repeated through the album, which detracts from its quality. Still enjoyed listening
a number of great cypress hill songs on this album. Including pigs and how I could just kill a man.
I always like the strokes sound. This is classic indie rock music at its best.
interesting album based on insecurities. Very relevant in style and topic for the release year. The only issue, will this album be timeless? Unlikely.
I like tom petty. Though some of his songs seem to blend together. This album was pretty good overall. o overarching theme.
Album was Ok. Does this really need to be on this list?
pretty good recent folk album with electronic backing. Not sure if this one will stand the test of time.
this has always been one of my favorite albums. Just hit after hit from boston.
classic punk rock band with a good collection of songs on this album.
needs to be on this list?
good Indie band. just not really sure this album needs to be on this list.
don't know much about joy division. album is very average for this list. That being said the album released posthumously of Ian Curtis. It appears they had moved from there influences.
Great album from lou reed. Really pushed the boundaries for rock and roll music. Very much ushered in Glam Rock.
has some great songs by Donovan. I love listening to the lyrics of this folk singer.
good modern folk album. Really necessary to be on this list?
a good album by prince. Though this probably havsn't stood the test of time like purple rain has.
A good album from an ambitious rock band. Many interesting songs and instrumental arrangements.
Great rock album with some lesser known hits. The Stooges now on my radar.
This eminem album created a generation of rap listeners. Explicit and juvenile.
This has to be one of my favorite stevie wonder albums.
A guilty pleasure. A brazen voice of 1990s.
This album wasn't bad. In fact, some of the lyrics were very creative. I question whether there are more important albums to put on this list.
I really enjoyed this album. Maybe not as much as moving pictures, but this is Rush with a more raw sound. Moving pictures is more refined with a theme.
English rock artist with a 1940's flair, almost smooth crooner meets rockabilly. Strange to see this type of album from the middle of the 2000's. That being said...needed on this list?
I liked this album. I was very surprised by the number of songs that I knew. Although the production value may not be that good. Often times saturating microphones with sound, it just adds to the raw rock sound of the kinks.
really liked this album. The song Fuzzy is great.
I think that many of the songs on this album blend together. Great Freud reference though. Definitely had a defining sound for the 80's.
Loved pusherman and superfly.
This album definitely shows a different side to Led Zeppelin. A little more country...
Not the biggest U2 fan, but the album does contain the hits.
Has a couple of really well known tracks, including the message. Albums is culturally significant.
So many greats on this ablum. Would listen again.
Contains some of the birds hits. Worth being on this list?
The album has new orleans style of music known as Gris-Gris. It's an ok album. Be on this list?
Soul and R&B album. Featuring some of the best songs by Amy Winehouse. Certainly talented a vocalist with great vocal range.
I like this album. I've never heard of the group or any of the songs.
considering I only know one song by madness, this wasn't too bad. This definitely represents ska music, but does this need to be on this list?
There aren't many small country representations on this list. Unfortunately if we were to celebrate each small countries music this list would be huge. I did find some songs amusing but in general many songs blend together. Does this really need to be on this list?
Album is good. I really do love the creepiness of every breath you take. Other than that, many songs blend together.
Loved this album. It was filled with Steely Dan greats
Interesting idea for an album. That being said, I'm not sure that this needs to be on the 1001 list. In fact a few of these songs gave me a headache.
Has that mid-90's "buzz balad" songs. Funny enough, this album contains none of the songs that I associate Oasis to.
Contains some interesting tunes.
High energy (hardcore?) punk album. I enjoyed listening to it, but I'm not sure that it should be on this list. Quick wikisearch says arguably the first hardcore punk album.
Interesting album. But could definitely not be on this list.
Has a bunch of greats from Tina Turner. Just not my scene.
not the biggest talking heads fans. Does seem to be the an experimental album.
I liked this album less than remain in light.
Loved this album. Bring out the blues and folk sound.
Good Solo album. I see the importance of adding this to the list perhaps for the innovative sound for 1973. Not sure if it needs to be on the list though.
This album may have established the genres of house and trap. It doesn't do much for me.
Enjoyed the blues like album. Many songs I hadn't heard before. Certainly featured some Clapton greats, but not too many.
I enjoyed this album. This definitely was a more blues centric album which explored some exciting themes. Is it my favorite album on this list? No, but I think it is a contender.
The music isn't bad and the sound was before their time. I just don't know if this need to be on this list.
I enjoyed listening to the songs. I'm just unsure if this needs to be on this list.
Great Disco Album. Would listen to again. Bass and Guitar lines are great throughout.
Great hits and some favorites that are lesser known. The British invasion holds strong in this album.
In enjoyed listening to this album. If it wasn't on this list I probably would never run by this.
The instrumentation, lyrics, and voices make a great album. DMSR.
Glad to hear the flight of the concords reference in timeless. Otherwise, is this album really relevant on this album?
Culturally significant album. Otherwise, not sure how highly ranked this would be on this list.
Has some recognizable tunes. Overall music is of high quality and contains cultural significance.
Filled with folk/blues songs. I liked some of these songs, but would this be an album that I need in my collection? No....
I like Steely Dan. This album had a couple classics that I had never heard before, Bodhisattva and My Old School.
I really enjoyed this album and only knew one song going in!
enjoyed listening to this album. Will add to my collection.
Album show cases the talent of the duo. Excellent close harmonies and instrumentation. The album does have a few covers and their sound is a bit straight-laced.
album is ok. I'm not really sure if this is required on this list.
Maybe one of the best soul album I've ever heard.
Ray Charles brought together many popular songs and reworked them. The work was done quite well just not sure that it feeds my desire to listen to original works.
Great album by zztop. Can really see the blues roots with this group!
Good album.
A more folk side of the kinks. Love sunny afternoon.
I feel like this is where funk meets almost new wave. Plenty of songs that get samples from this album.
Old school British punk. Has some of the classics by the clash.
Great album by the king of pop!
For some reason I just couldn't get into this album. I tried listening to it a number of times and one track just blends into the next. I will give it credit that it is the intersection of folk and country.
