The complexity of melodies and harmonies cannot be overstated. A very palatable level of weird.
A real pre-Oasis, the LP started off okay, but really got more and more captivating as it went on.
Even without ol Bruce-y boy, they sure as shit set the tone for all their music to come. The confidence in their foundations is exemplified very well.
I was expecting to like this more than I did. The first time listening through a whole LP of theirs in a while, if ever.
I had forgotten how unique and almost incredibly annoying her voice is.
Perfect Sunday morning vibes. What a joy
What an icon. I love hearing his influence in all who followed him.
Loved this as much as every other time I’ve heard it
I liked this more than music for the masses. Expanding their instrumentation made it a little more accessible
This is an affirmation that I’m not just tired of that one song they have, but that I really do not like them. There was maybe one good song on here, but too much of it sounded like dudeman was trying waaaaaay to hard to sound like Bowie and failed miserably. I’d give it 0 if I could. Awful.
Didn’t enjoy this as much I thought I would have
Poppy british rock isn’t my favorite, but this was pretty good
Hadn’t heard this since I was a little kid in Texas. Cute and historically noteworthy, but not my go to
If I was alive when this was released, it might have been too much, but I really appreciate the cocaine fueled production for what it is now. Loved the whole album
Great lo fi punk. Loved it and hearing the folks influenced by it through them
Just thinking of him as an off brand Bowie isn’t entirely fair. What a voice.
If someone asked me before I’d listened to this if I wanted to hear covers of overplayed classic rock songs done by a sitar, I would’ve said no. My answer is still no.
Love Ravi and some more traditional ragas, but this is not something I would reach for. Ever.
Kinda pissed that none of my musical sources introduced this to me when I was young. A sleeper for sure
Fabulous take from the 80s. Can’t believe I’d never listened to this before
I liked this a lot more than the 93 album
Nile and co will always get my vote
First time I’ve listened to a solo from either one of the Dan’s. Solid stuff
Love the folk and psychedelia mix
That amplified jug is wild
Some of the most solid roots of all good hip hop
Pleasantly surprised by this important Brit pop that was new to me. I liked it
One of the toughest for me to get through so far. I realized after listening to this that The Who are the MOST overplayed classic rock group of all time. Ugh.
Love love love David Byrne
What a gem. So glad I now know about this guy
Really helped paved the way for indietronica to be a thing
I appreciate what’s going on here, but it was too long and windy and jammy feeling for my tastes today
That one song, sure. The rest was meh
Worth it for the history. Not my American cup of tea
What an influence for all of my influencers. This was great
One of the most unhateable figures of classic rock and I love him. The only good thing to come out of Gainesville FL
Only somewhat did it for me
And on the day that daft punk breaks up
Another hidden 90s alt rock gem. This was great
To my shame, one that I’ve never deep dived into. Amazing stuff here. I loved it
Liked the start, but it became a weirdly more British Coldplay and black keys. Not my favorite
Well timed on the last day of black history month. Hopefully I’ll see them at riot fest this year
I like that Dave Matthews put him on the map. This was very good. Very british.
Appreciate this but didn’t really like it. Their later stuff is more my style.
Important and influential, but I wouldn’t seek this out
I hear so many subsequent bands in this album
I liked this more than I thought I would, especially after hearing the guy’s voice. The instrumental parts were better.
I wasn’t expecting something so orchestral. Man the vibrato is a lot to take
A smorgasbord of different sounds. He was either that amazing of a musician or surrounded himself with amazing musicians, or both. Great stuff
I’d never listened to a megadeth album before. It was great
Ashamed to say seven seas of rhye was the only one I knew on this
Can’t help but think MURICA as a reaction to the Beatles
I can’t believe this is twenty years old
I refuse to listen to this refuse.
What an interesting intersection of punk and pop
Influenced the influencers
Never a bad day for Elliott, ever.
Always a great day for some Tramp
Won’t you take me by the hand?
I’d never listened to this. Amazing
What fascinating noise. Never heard of these guys before and this was amazing.
Probably my favorite of the three I’ve heard so far
I’d never listened to this one top to bottom. So good. Might be my new favorite of his, but I definitely need to go through the catalog
Aussie pop! This was interesting. Fit the mold but definitely unique.
Should’ve listened to this earlier than just now, but it did not disappoint. So good
Can’t believe I’d never heard even of this
Way better than I had expected. Should’ve listened to this a long time ago
Damon so good. Been a while since I’ve peeped thix
The most goth I’ve ever heard
More to them than just Mrs Robinson. I liked the easy tunes with lyrics that were deeper and darker
Beat and easy psych vibes. This feels like pre-Beatles and doors weirdness. Very good stuff here
Never heard of “proto punk”, but I can definitely hear some of my favorite punk through this, Jeff Rosenstock included
What lovely off the beaten path subversive alt pop
One of, if not THE first CDs I ever owned. I remember my dad being pissed that my mom let me listen to it. Def would’ve been a Lilith fair attendee
This was not surfin USA. Man they were special.
Lovely way to season a bird. Excellent album from S&G
He’s had so many looks over the years. This might be his most well known, and with good reason
Bold and brash. I loved this. Had never heard of if, but I can hear her in all the young solo artists that I listen to all the time now
Once around the block is one of my favorite favorites. Never would’ve guessed the rest of his would be this good
Meh. I didn’t like this as much as I thought I would.
Another one of my first CDs. I memorized left eye’s waterfalls verse when I was 8
The samples alone, good lord. What an album
Not my favorite stones, but man did it set a tone
Man does this entire album fuck. So god damned good
I need to dive deeper into Coltrane. This spoke to me and I want to know more of how and why. Ah, jazz.
Love impromptu trips to Brazil. Haven’t seen Joao on here yet
Idk if I can get over “you’ve got a friend in me”
More looks on here than I knew him for. The blues was particularly good
One of my first deeper dives into classic rock as a teenager.
One of the greatest. I love this, but am partial to private press
Them good ol boys with the golden chords
Can’t believe I used to not love this. What an album
What more is there to say?
One of my favorites Stones LPs
More unknown brits bringing the solid rock and roll
Good and important, but not my favorite
Man I forgot about into the light.
Been a while since I’ve visited this LP. Get the loot fucks harder than just about any song today, and ready to die made me very uncomfortable. Great shit
Never really understood the obsession with Elvis tbh
This Lilith fair headliner is my favorite.
This had many more different looks than I was expecting
Started off strong but kinda lost me towards the end there. Cool to see Bryan Ferry’s roots though
So much orchestra. More of this in the world please
What a solid slice of Americana. I could get behind this country music
Didn’t really do it for me
The world needs more funk like this
Seminal album from a strange, strange man
Like he wrote the twelve bar structure himself. So good
I forgot how high energy they are.
The missing link for me for so many bands that I like
Such a distinct yet immediately recognizable guitar sound. That vocally warble is great. Love this
Class-A assholes that are just the worst, but they sure could rock
He so real about being soft af and I love him for it
Woof. Not good. And I love the idea of a happy monday
More edgy punk than I had expected. Kinda like art punk. What a vibe.
Still trying to figure out what it is about most Brit rock/pop that gives me zero reasons to like it. It’s like a half step off from being something I could love.
Epic, and the ones that aren’t overplayed are great
Been a while since I’ve Jimi’d
What an unbelievably difficult time it was to piece together the lyrics.
Such an instant crush on her. Incredible music
Really don’t love this as much viewed through today’s lens. They’ve been making the same song for 25 years.
Much more rock based than the others of his that I’ve heard. Liked this a lot
Jimmy forever and ever. Six stars
Funky odyssey’s not really my thing
Some rhythms and melodies in here that I know exist elsewhere
I can only imagine how great he was live. Would have loved to see him
What else is there to say about the king
Eh. Not bad but nothing earth shattering to me
Wowwwww some jungle history. Incredible
John’s kinda soured for me over the years tbh
So glad this is on here. Deservedly so. Bringing dance hall into the mainstream
Loved starting my day with this weird shit. It made my whole day. Been too long since I’ve knifed
I couldn’t get through this one. Brit pop just is not for me
Inspired to have a great day because of this. We don’t deserve Stevie
Slow hand does not disappoint. I had forgotten how much more than Layla they were. Great stuff
This is some wild shit that I’ve never heard of. Wow
Could’ve done without the Springsteen cover
What a unique intersection of rock and roll
Such great hip hop. Don’t think I’ve ever gone through this LP before today
Too many people sleep on these guys
Never would’ve imagined that this was a thing
My favorite smooth talker
Problematic at the least, but still a great slab of Americana
Just something about that British pop I can’t get behind
I thought I was going to like this more than I did
Couldn’t get through it, but I did try
I’ll never forget the sousaphone solo when I saw them live. Top notch
Phenomenally consistent harmonies
Perfect timing for my 200th!
I can see how this is important, but I didn’t like it
Boring af tbh. Important maybe, but wow boring
Eh. Thought I’d like this more than I did
