Album Summary

Apocalypse Dudes is the fourth album by the Norwegian band Turbonegro. It is the first studio album with Euroboy as the lead guitarist and the last before the band disbanded in December 1998. Released in early 1998 in Norway and Germany, the album was a huge success for the then underground band. Adapting a more glam rock-oriented sound, Apocalypse Dudes set the standard for future Turbonegro records and became the first part of the Apocalypse trilogy, consisting of Apocalypse Dudes (1998), Scandinavian Leather (2003) and Party Animals (2005).

Something I would not have listened to without this list. Actually really good fun - tuneful, exuberant and generally pretty likeable lyrics. Good for you, Scandinavian punks!

Nice, forgettable rock.

I mean.... This is fine and fun if youre into this kind of music. I dont want this to sound negative because its not. This is fun 80s\90s style glam punk and its not like they are bad musicians. I would like to hear a detailed explaination from the author as to why this is something someone MUST hear before they die. As stated above, this is fun! 3 stars worth of fun that I will probably never listen to by choice ever again.

3 leaning 2, some songs were fun, most were very average or leaning not to my taste.

This is #day819 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... this makes me wonder who gave a fuck about glam punk in the late '90s. The other thing that makes me wonder is who gave a fuck about Norwegian glam punk in the late '90s. Some flat-ass rock you don't have to hear before you die. This is a 1 out of 5. Looking forward to #day820.

Average at best. Nothing gained nothing lost by listening

Always when I listen to Turbonegro I think to myself I do not listen enough to Turbonegro in my life. Great Band.

Some good, dumb fun! Where else but a Norweigan glam-punk band can you get a song title like "Rock Against Ass"?

Almost parody, every cliche used in every song. Proper good fun and enjoyed it. Could have been 45 minutes for an extra star.

I liked it more than I expected

Crunchy rock riffs, not for me.

This one of those things that I don't dislike at all. I also don't really like it, but it's not a bad listen for an hour. Trust me when I tell you this project has subjected me to much, much worse.

652/1101 - That sounds about right for Glam Punk

So dumb, but I love it

This isn't awful. The sound is solid from the band, but once again, this is another band who is let down by their frontman. They lyrics are basic and the signing is not nearly good or interesting enough. Go listen to the first song and the way he closes, it sounds like he is trying to rile up a 20-person crowd at a dive bar who is terribly disinterested. Just inadequate in about every way. Other than that, it was decent.

Liked this better than I thought I would.

The most aggressively safe punk record I've heard. Really couldn't get into it.

Came in totally cold. Really fun Norwegian glam-punk. Felt sorta like a modern New York Dolls. Great find.

I think this album starts off pretty strong, I think the mix of glam rock and punk rock sounds really good. All the guitars and drums sound great throughout this album, but the singer... not so much... I think if they got someone with a Mike Patton esque voice, I could have really loved this album, but as it, it is just ehhh... The lyrics (from what I heard) also seemed pretty amateurish. Also as the album went on, it really felt like the same thing over and over again. I know I am complaining a lot, but I do still think this is a "good" album, it is just very obvious what the things are I do not like about it. High 3.

It’s kind of dumb? It’s ok, but not my favorite. Kind of an 80’s hard rock album but made in the late 90’s. Lyrically pretty bad. Musically not bad, but not my taste really.

pretty good 4/5

No. The nonsense "critic's choice" picks have to stop. I literally own 1001 albums I would listen to before this.

Best listened to turned up to 11. I found it to be a little bit Ramones, a little bit Spinal Tap, and a little bit rubbish

I think I'd enjoy this way more without the Punk of it all. The other aspects of the songs are closer to Guns N Roses but I don't like the messiness. The cover of Suffragette City is just not it. Not enough glam funk to it. Funnily enough, the best cover I've ever heard is by Weird Al.

I’m just going to copy the band name portion from Wikipedia. Enjoy. “Initially, the band had two running ideas for band names: Nazipenis and Turbonegro. They were advised that a band named Nazipenis would never sell records, so they chose Turbonegro as a more consumer-friendly choice. The band's name raised some eyebrows and, for that reason, their first releases were sometimes branded "TRBNGR", perhaps to preclude backlash against what some consider to be a racist name. However, the band's stated motivations are anti-racist, an attempt to change the attitude of racism and nationalism perceived as prevalent in parts of Scandinavia. According to lead guitarist Euroboy, the band name also has a peculiar origin. "I think Pål saw it spray-painted on a brick wall in a tube-station in a suburb of Oslo back in the day. It's actually two Latin words. It means 'fast' and 'black,' and we thought that was a cool name for a band. Because our music is very fast and very dark. And also, it's a name for a color. In the car industry, it's the name for the paint, for the darkest paint. If you want to paint your car black, the most black colour of all is Turbonegro.“ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Should have stuck with the name nazipenis

That was fun metalish punk. Good times.

Not for me. I like a bit of trashy rock, but you have to at least expand the song with melody or take it down a gear every so often.

I’ve heard this before but it’s been a long time. I’m kinda surprised to see Turbonegro on this list because they’re so goofy. This is all dumb fun rock that’s not super great by any means. It seems a little overproduced and falls into an almost uncanny valley between punk, new wave of british heavy metal, and glam. I enjoyed it but I won’t be tuning back in any time soon.

After having a look at the complexion of the members: Turbonegro = BAD band name

i know this isn't very highbrow of me but i was actually very endeared by this. the first song is a very sweet ode to a pizza place and it gets better. how can you not be charmed by a song called rendevouz with anus cmon now. hank von hell intensely whispering 'do you want to be a denim boy' had me in tears. i feel this would be very fun live

Hard rock infused punk rock. Musically it hits the spot but those lyrics are juvenile and idiotic.

An interesting take on punk and hair metal, mostly through its lyrical content. Coming out in 98, this was a little over decade behind the sound of an unsigned Guns N Roses and the almost but never big Hanoi Rocks. A weird entry in the book. Entertaining but unsure why I would ever return to it.

They shouldn’t be called that

"Initially, the band had two running ideas for band names: Nazipenis and Turbonegro. They were advised that a band named Nazipenis would never sell records, so they chose Turbonegro as a more consumer-friendly choice."

Clear inspiration from The Clash and The Cult, bit with sounds of the time linke Offspring or blink-182. Powerful beats, shredding guitars, borderline screeching vocals, all with a bit of a throwback feel. This genre isn't totally my thing, but I dug it okay.

The Wiki entry says that this is Glam Rock - all I hear is noise and 3 chords and punk! I wouldn't listen to this again

for what its worth, i found this entertaining at the very least. I'm fine with a record being goody and tongue in cheek, but they backed it up with some catchy melodies too

Awesome album

I assumed this would be closer to Krautrock but it is actually just standard Brit rock?

Really a 4.5

An interesting find, not bad at all

Am I supposed to dislike this because it's shallow? Because the rock is enough for a 4.

Mais ou menos

TURBO TURBO

Lmao, just sort of stupid fun. It's a decent way to spend an hour. The lyrics are actually nonsense, and pretty vile nonsense at that, but I guess it works for what they're doing. Freaking awesome cover art. Fave tracks: - Get It On - Don't Say Motherfucker, Motherfucker - Zillion Dollar Sadist - Prince Of The Rodeo - Humiliation Street

Quite enjoyable if a bit edgy. High 3* / low 4* 4/5

1. 4.5 2. 5 3. 3.5 4. 3 5. 3.5 6. 3 7. 4 8. 4.5 9. 4 10. 3 11. 3 12. 2.5 13. 3

Fun, not great, but it doesn't need to be.

I have intentional listened to worse music. I didn't dislike this but I also didn't understand why it was on the list b

I liked this one. They seem fun.

These guys aren't afraid to use curses

This was pretty good. Some good rock and for some songs punk-rock.

It's hard to believe that this record was made by adults and not four-year-olds.

Turboshit.

nothing special

Interesting. A bit back to basics rock. There feels like a bit of naivety in the lyrics, but that could just be the language issue. The instruments themselves are well played, but fairly derivitive. I sense this is the beginning of something rather than the peak. On that basis 2/5

This was so interesting lol. Everything i thought I got the hang of it i was like wait what did they just say? Lol

The lyrics are very sexual, but the rock is nice.

Never heard of these guy. Was pretty good. 3.6

Avg rock, it just alright

Basically pop punk but make the lyrics weird

Too loud. Not my thing

I don’t know, I don’t think these guys are racist, but I also don’t think what they’re doing is funny. Don’t really give a shit about their music either way, so let’s go with the gut on rating this one.

I had never heard of this band before yesterday but what a killer record! Time to dive into their catalog!

I think we've got what we need. I'll give you the time back

Not great punk.

Lyrically stuck in middle school. Musically fine but uninteresting.

Really great album, especially for a band I had never heard of before. The guitars were awesome throughout the album. It was also more of that hard rock type of punk instead of the hard and fast paced punk that I'm usually not a fan of.

Overuse of profanity is a tricky thing. In the hands of the Coen Brothers with The Big Lebowski it works. However, when incorporated by adolescent minded musicians that just think it is cool to throw around gratuitous F Bombs in aimless rage, it doesn’t.

I don't know...The songs rock, and the solos are sufficiently noodle-y. But the album was pretty long, and didnt really evolve much. And I Google these guys and their whole schtick just seems...tiring. Whatever, glad that I listened. I would give 2 stars, but the solos are quite noodle-y.

Pretty good album: a mixture of 80s rock and 70s punk. Some songs are same-ish, and Turbonegro need to improve their lyrics.

20/09/2026 What a pleasant little surprise this was for me. Spotify listeners: 231.1k

Thoughts before listening: As someone into punk rock in the late 90s/early 00s, these guys crossed my radar as some sort of Swedish (I think) garage punk band. I may have even liked some of their songs and downloaded them via Napster or something. That being said, I wouldn't think they would make a list like this. Maybe I should choose Pennywise or NOFX as my album once I finish this thing if Turbonegro deserves to make the list. Review: I mean this is fun. Its definitely a sound that resonates with me, and I do recognize some of these songs. Basically its punk rock put through a sleazy hard rock filter with profane lyrics. Probably not one of the greatest albums of all time, but I am enjoying listening to this today. That being said, its a 2-star album to me.

Never heard of these guys, but the album was pretty fun.

Håller kanske inte 100%

Inget speciellt, men en rå härlig energi.

Nice sound men tröttnade lite.

1001 obnoxious albums

Ooof! Not for me

Imagine if the Village People were a Motley Crew cover band. Or if The Hives only wrote songs about bums.

As ever, I implore anyone doing this list to take any reviews (good or bad) with a pinch of salt and go into every album with an open mind. This is far from a terrible album, and nowhere near as crass or infantile as others would have you believe. Yes, it is rough around the edges and seemingly delights in just putting the pedal to the floor and going with whatever riff the song has. That does lead to some fairly generic, but still not awful, tracks, but when they get it right it's a hell of a lot of fun.

Solid album, reminded me of mid-80's metal

Music was good, vocals and lyrics were needing help. Not enjoyable overall.

Fun when you’re drunk, but I don’t drink.

While I didn't particularly enjoy this, I realized I have not heard many bands that sound like this on this list. I've never heard of this band - apparently their Norwegian. They have a sound like Green Day and other bands like that. Loud guitars and drums. Those are the kinds of bands I like, and I feel like this list is missing that.

let's be honest, the album title and artist name combo had me hovering over the 1 button before we started. And they did very little to move me away from there, making sad little edgelord music in their 30s

Is this the soundtrack to Crazy Taxi on PS2 This band's wikipedia page is very self-written Eurovision rejects Feeling generous so I will give 2 rather than 1. Fun fact! they used to perform in blackface

Not awful, musically. I appreciate the youthful enthusiasm. But the youthfulness turns juvenile when it comes to the lyrics and overall posture of the band. A 2.
